Dengue fever (DF) is the most rapidly spreading mosquito-borne viral disease. Practical vaccines or specific therapeutics are still expected. Environmental factors and genetic factors affect the susceptibility of Dengue virus (DV) infection. Asthma is a common allergic disease, with house dust mites (HDMs) being the most important allergens. Asthmatic patients are susceptible to several microorganism infections.

Abstract

Transient hypothyroidism is common in premature infants and increases the risk of adverse neurodevelopmental outcomes. Thyroid hormone (TH) is involved in oligodendrocyte development and myelination, however, whether transient hypothyroidism is associated with oligodendrocyte dysplasia and abnormal myelination is unclear. The aim of the present study was to investigate correlations among TH levels, neurodevelopmental outcomes and white matter (WM) microstructure in premature infants. The authors designed a cohort study recruiting 81 premature infants (age, 23-35 weeks). A total of 17 were born with a gestational age (GA) <30 weeks (early preterm group) and 64 of them were born with a GA ≥30 weeks (late preterm group). For outcome measurement, thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) levels at 0, 18, and 24 h of admission were measured. Neurodevelopmental outcomes were assessed using Bayley III test. Diffusion tensor imaging was used to explore the characterization of WM microstructure. The data demonstrated that GA, however not TSH level was associated with neurodevelopmental outcomes in the following 2 years. Fractional anisotrophy (FA) increased with TSH0 levels over anterior limb of internal capsule, while axial diffusivity decreased with TSH0 levels over splenium of corpus callosum (CC). The late preterm group had more intact WM integrity over the internal and external capsule (EC) in FA compared with the early preterm group. Infants with motor dysfunction had significantly increased mean diffusivity (MD) values at regions of interest in the genu and splenium of CC. The results of the present study demonstrated that GA, however not transient hypothyroidism influenced neurodevelopmental outcomes in the premature infants. FA increased with age in a regionally-specific manner over regions of the internal capsule and EC. MD may act as a potential predictor for motor function in premature babies. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

Blood samples from 23 Huacaya alpacas, 3 males and 20 females, were used to study chromosomes and karyotypes, so as to provide some effective cytogenetic bases for the selection, improvement by crossing, disease diagnosis of alpacas, and genetic mechanisms of sex determination. Peripheral blood lymphocyte culture was used to prepare chromosome. A method of trypase-EDTA was used for G-banding. The results showed as follows: The number of diploid chromosomes was 2n=74, with the karyotype 74, XY and 74, XX for males and females respectively. Thirty-six homologous pairs of chromosomes were autosomes, in which chromosomes pairs No.1 to No.20 were acrocentric-subterminal and No.21 to No.36 metacentric-submetacentric. And X chromosome was metacentric, Y chromosome telocentric. The analysis of G-bands showed that bright and dark bands appeared by turn. It showed different bands. And every pair of chromosomes had its distinct band, and the longer the chromosomes, the more the number of bands, and the more clear the bands.

Abstract

Background and aims A growing number of diseases (trauma, certain cancer, and certain infection) in humans appear to be associated with L-arginine deficiency. In condition of L-arginine depletion, T-cell proliferation is impaired. In mice model, certain Th2 conditions were shown to activate arginase and lead to L-arginine depletion. However, the modulation effects of L-arginine towards T-cells immune polarisation and regulation are not understood. Methods To investigate the different modulation effects of L-arginine on neonatal and adult lymphocyte polarisation, the cytokines produced by cord blood mononuclear cells (CBMC) and adult peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC) at indicated L-arginine were determined. Results CBMC produced less Th1 but higher Th2 cytokines than PBMC. Both adult and neonate T cells cannot produce IFN-γ efficiently in the absence of L-arginine. But high IL-4 and low IL-13 were produced by CBMC in L-arginine free condition. About the Th3 cytokines, CBMC produced lower TGF-β but higher IL-10 than PBMC. L-arginine levels had no influence on the TGF-β production (PBMC and CBMC). L-arginine enhanced the IL-10 production of CBMC. CBMC showed higher proportion of CD4+CD25 + cells and higher Foxp-3 expressions with L-arginine rich condition. Conclusions These results suggested that L-arginine modulate neonatal T-cells polarisation may partially through the IL-10 producing Tr1 cells mechanism. Understanding the biological role played by L-arginine deficiency in neonate will lead to the development of dietary strategy aimed at enhancing L-arginine plasma concentrations.

Abstract

Kaiman filter is well suited for application to the problems of missile guidance and control. In this paper, we make use of the Kaiman filter theory to develop an efficient scheme for estimating the current states of maneuvering targets, and optimal guidance law is applied in order for a high performance index of miss distance. This scheme is designed to suit for tracking several types of target if aircraft can not provide much known information regarding maneuvering targets before launching missile. It is shown how an adaptive filter based on Current Statistical Model can be applied in conjunction with the optimal guidance law to improve system attacking performance and to relax the requirements of maneuvering target acceleration information during tracking and attacking.
