Abstract Background Topical application of β-blocker eye drops induces damage to the ocular surface in clinical. However, the mechanism involved remains incompletely understood. The purpose of this study was to investigate the influence and mechanism of β-blocker eye drops on corneal epithelial wound healing. Methods Corneal epithelial wound healing models were constructed by epithelial scraping including in the limbal region and unceasingly received eye drops containing 5 mg/mL β-blocker levobunolol, β1-adrenoceptor (β1AR)-specific antagonist atenolol or β2-adrenoceptor (β2AR)-specific antagonist ICI 118, 551. For the migration assay, the murine corneal epithelial stem/progenitor cells (TKE2) were wounded and subsequently incubated with levobunolol, atenolol, or ICI 118, 551. The proliferation and colony formation abilities of TKE2 cells treated with levobunolol, atenolol, or ICI 118, 551 were investigated by CCK-8 kit and crystal violet staining. The differentiation marker Cytokeratin 3 (CK3), the stem cell markers-Cytokeratin 14 (CK14) and Cytokeratin 19 (CK19), and corneal epithelium regeneration-related signaling including in Ki67 and the phosphorylated epithelial growth factor receptor (pEGFR) and phosphorylated extracellular signal-regulated kinase 1/2 (pERK1/2) were assessed by immunofluorescence staining. Results Levobunolol and ICI 118, 551 impaired corneal wound healing, decreased the expressions of CK3, CK14, and CK19 after limbal region scraping in vivo and reduced the migration and proliferation of TKE2 in vitro, whereas atenolol had no significant effect. Moreover, levobunolol and ICI 118, 551 inhibited corneal wound healing by mediating the expression of Ki67, and the phosphorylation of EGFR and ERK1/2 in the limbal and regenerated corneal epithelium. Conclusion β-blocker eye drops impaired corneal wound healing by inhibiting the β2AR of limbal stem cells, which decreased corneal epithelial regeneration-related signaling. Therefore, a selective β1AR antagonist might be a good choice for glaucoma treatment to avoid ocular surface damage.

Abstract In this study, graphitic carbon nitride (g-C3N4) and niobium pentoxide nanofibers (Nb2O5 NFs) heterojunction was prepared by means of a direct electrospinning approach combined with calcination process. The characterizations confirmed a well-defined morphology of the g-C3N4/Nb2O5 heterojunction in which Nb2O5 NFs were tightly attached onto g-C3N4 nanosheets. Compared to pure g-C3N4 and Nb2O5 NFs, the as-prepared g-C3N4/Nb2O5 heterojunction exhibited remarkably enhanced photocatalytic activity for degradation of rhodamine B and phenol under visible light irradiation. The enhanced catalytic activity was attributed predominantly to the synergistic effect between g-C3N4 sheets and Nb2O5 NFs, which promoted the transferring of carriers and prohibited their recombination, confirmed by the measurement of transient photocurrent responses and photoluminescence spectra. In addition, the active species trapping experiments indicated that superoxide radical anion (·O2 –) and hole (h+) were the major active species contributing to the photocatalytic process. With its high efficacy and ease of preparation, g-C3N4/Nb2O5 heterojunction has great potentials for applications in treatment of organic pollutants and conversion of solar energy.

Type specimens of P. jidanweishi, P. nigeri, P. qiqi, P. xiaoxiao, S. longtou and S. spinathoraxi are re-examined and photographed. All Asian Patu species are revised and two species, P. kishidai Shinkai, 2009 and P. bispina Lin, Pham & S. Li, 2009, are transferred to Crassignatha and proposed as new combinations: Crassignatha kishidai comb. nov. and C. bispina comb. nov. In addition, DNA barcodes and genetic distances of ten species treated in this paper were obtained to confirm identification.

Abstract Background Although primary splenic lymphoma (PSL) is rare, it ranks first among splenic primary malignant cancers, and the incidence of lymphoma of spleen has gradually increased in recent years. However, the efficacy of surgery for PSL has not been clinically verified by large sample data, which has affected the formulation of relevant guidelines. Aim To assess whether surgery can enhance the prognosis PSL patients. Methods Extracted the data of patients with PSL from The Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) database, and divided the patients into surgery and non‐surgery group. Kaplan–Meier curves and log‐rank tests were used to compare the overall survival (OS) and cancer‐specific survival (CSS). The propensity score matching (PSM) was used to match the data, then compared the OS and CSS again. The COX proportional hazard regression model was used for univariate and multivariate analysis. Finally, we performed subgroup analysis in different Ahmann stages. Results A sum of 2207 patients with PSL were enrolled, of which 1062 (48.1%) patients received surgery, and 1145 (51.9%) patients did not undergo surgery. Overall, patients in the surgery group had better OS and CSS. After the propensity scores matching, surgery was not statistically significant in OS and CSS. In the subgroup analysis, surgery was a protective factor for the OS and CSS in Ahmann I/II. However, surgery was no statistical significance in OS and CSS in Ahmann III. In patients with Ahmann Ⅰ/Ⅱ SMZL, surgery was a protective factor for OS and CSS. In patients with Ahmann Ⅲ SMZL, surgery was also statistically significant of OS and CSS. Conclusions Surgery can significantly improve the prognosis of patients with Ahmann Ⅰ/Ⅱ primary splenic lymphoma, but there was no survival difference in the Ahmann Ⅲ patients with or without surgery. For patients with SMZL, surgery was effective for improving OS and CSS.

Abstract Background Circular RNAs (circRNAs) have become a hot topic in the area of tumor biology due to its closed structure and the post-transcriptional regulatory effect. This study aims to clarify the roles of circRNA nuclear receptor-interacting protein 1 (NRIP1; circNRIP1) and the possible mechanisms in papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC). Methods The real-time PCR was used to detect the expression level of CircRNA NRIP1 in PTC specimens and cell lines. The effects of CircRNA NRIP1 and miR-195-5p on the PTC cell functions were detected by MTT, transwell, and flow cytometry assays. Dual-luciferase reporter assays and pull down assays were used to verify the association between circRNA NRIP1 and miR-195-5p. The murine xenograft models were constructed to detect the roles of CircRNA NRIP1 and miR-195-5p. Western blot was applied to detect the effects of CircRNA NRIP1 and miR-195-5p on the P38 MAPK and JAK/STAT singling pathways. Results CircRNA NRIP1 was over-expressed in PTC tissues and cells and the high levels of CircRNA NRIP1 were correlated with advanced PTC stage. Depletion of CircRNA NRIP1 inhibited PTC cell proliferation, invasion, while accelerated apoptosis. miR-195-5p upregulation repressed proliferation and invasion capabilities, and accelerated apoptosis of PTC cell lines and restraining the growth of tumor xenografts, while the functions were reversed following CircRNA NRIP1 overexpression in PTC cells and tumor xenografts. Besides, the protein levels of p-p38, p-JAK2 and p-STAT1 were remarkably down-regulated in miR-195-5p overexpressed PTC cells and tumor xenografts, whereas CircRNA NRIP1 up-regulation overturned the impacts. Conclusions In conclusion, CircRNA NRIP1 promoted PTC progression by accelerating PTC cells proliferation, invasion and tumor growth, while impeding apoptosis by way of sponging miR-195-5p and regulating the P38 MAPK and JAK/STAT pathways.

With the global prevalence of diabetes mellitus over recent decades, more patients suffered from various diabetic complications, including diabetic ocular surface diseases that may seriously affect the quality of life and even vision sight. The major diabetic ocular surface diseases include diabetic keratopathy and dry eye. Diabetic keratopathy is characterized with the delayed corneal epithelial wound healing, reduced corneal nerve density, decreased corneal sensation and feeling of burning or dryness. Diabetic dry eye is manifested as the reduction of tear secretion accompanied with the ocular discomfort. The early clinical symptoms include dry eye and corneal nerve degeneration, suggesting the early diagnosis should be focused on the examination of confocal microscopy and dry eye symptoms. The pathogenesis of diabetic keratopathy involves the accumulation of advanced glycation end-products, impaired neurotrophic innervations and limbal stem cell function, and dysregulated growth factor signaling, and inflammation alterations. Diabetic dry eye may be associated with the abnormal mitochondrial metabolism of lacrimal gland caused by the overactivation of sympathetic nervous system. Considering the important roles of the dense innervations in the homeostatic maintenance of cornea and lacrimal gland, further studies on the neuroepithelial and neuroimmune interactions will reveal the predominant pathogenic mechanisms and develop the targeting intervention strategies of diabetic ocular surface complications.

ObjectivePulmonary aspergillosis is a rare but challenging pulmonary disease. The conditions of patients with chronic pulmonary aspergillosis (CPA) can be even more complicated. The mortality rate of CPA remains high, and the prognostic factors are not well established due to a high proportion of loss to follow-up. In this study, we aim to explore factors associated with loss to follow-up in CPA patients and their impact on the disease prognosis after withdrawing anti-fungal treatments.MethodsPatients with confirmed CPA, who were admitted to the Department of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine, the First Affiliated Hospital of Guangzhou Medical University from March 2017 to November 2019, were enrolled in this prospective study. The enrolled patients were followed up for 6 months after discharge. For loss to follow-up patients, the reasons for loss to follow-up and their prognosis after withdrawing anti-fungal treatments during loss to follow-up were recorded by telephone communication. Multivariate logistic regression analysis was performed to determine factors associated with loss to follow-up.ResultsThe 199 out of 298 screened patients were included in the study. Except for 67 cases with regular follow-up, the rest 132 cases were lost to follow-up. Factors, including age > 60 years (OR = 2.036, P = 0.03), monthly income ≤ $583 (OR = 5.568, P = 0.0001), education ≤ 6 years (OR = 7.474, P = 0.0001), and non-local residence (OR = 5.893, P = 0.0001) were associated with the loss to follow-up according to multivariate logistic regression analysis. The most common reasons for loss to follow-up were economic factors and clinic visit distance. The overall case fatality rate (CFR) within 180 days in patients with regular follow-up and patients who stopped anti-fungal treatment during the loss to follow-up was 0% and 19.65%, respectively.ConclusionThe proportion of loss to follow-up in CPA patients remained high. Age (>60 years), poor financial status, low education, and non-local residence were the key factors associated with the loss to follow-up in this study. Our study reveals the need to optimize the follow-up procedures and improve the patients understanding about the benefits and limitations of follow-up to reduce the CFR.

A good urban public space environment should make people have a sense of historical belonging and show the characteristics of the city. This paper discusses the importance of regional culture in urban construction, and tries to make those excellent regional culture continue and inherit in urban public space design by creatively extracting regional cultural elements and combining them with modern design techniques. Through case analysis, this paper expounds the specific design and expression method of urban regional culture, thus proving that regional culture has very important significance and necessity in creating personalized urban public space.

Bougainvillea Comm. ex Juss. (Nyctaginaceae; Bougainvillea) is a popular ornamental plant with vigorous growth, luxuriant blooming, colorful bracts, and a high tolerance to the stresses of temperature, drought, and soil pollution, and thus is widely cultivated in tropical and subtropical regions. However, the paucity of information on ploidy and the genomic constitution is a significant challenge to genome research and cultivar improvement. We present a flow cytometry method for ploidy detection in bougainvillea based on evaluating different lysates and tissues, identify the ploidy level of a batch of bougainvillea accessions, and infer the genome size of horticultural species Bougainvillea glabra, Bougainvillea spectobilis, and Bougainvillea peruviana. The results show that tender leaves and woody plant buffer (WPB) were optimal for flow cytometry analysis. The 2C nuclear DNA amounts in 176 bougainvillea accessions ranged from 4.66 ± 0.04 to 12.26 ± 0.1 pg, which represents 161 diploids, 13 triploids, 1 tetraploid, and 1 di-tetraploid mixoploid. For B. glabra, B. spectobilis, and B. peruviana, the mean 1C values were 3.201, 3.066, and 2.915 pg, respectively. The genome size of B. glabra was significantly larger than that of B. peruviana (P = 0.0004), but had no significant variation with that of B. spectobilis (P = 0.1061). These results reveal fundamental cytogenetic information for bougainvillea that are beneficial to whole-genome sequencing and hybrid breeding programs.

Bacillus Calmette – Guerin (BCG) is an immune regulator that can enhance hippocampal synaptic plasticity in rats; however, it is unclear whether it can improve synaptic function in a mouse model with Alzheimer’s disease (AD). We hypothesized that BCG plays a protective role in AD mice and investigated its effect on dendritic morphology. The results obtained show that BCG immunization significantly increases dendritic complexity, as indicated by the increased number of dendritic intersections and branch points, as well as the increase in the fractal dimension. Furthermore, the number of primary neurites and dendritic length also increased following BCG immunization, which increased the number of spines and promoted maturation. IFN-γ and IL-4 levels increased, while TNF-α levels decreased following BCG immunization; expression levels of p-JAK2, P-STAT3, SYN, and PSD-95 also increased. Therefore, this study demonstrates that BCG immunization in APP/PS1 mice mitigated hippocampal dendritic spine pathology, especially after the third round of immunization. This effect could possibly be attributed to; changes in dendritic arborization and spine morphology or increases in SYN and PSD-95 expression levels. It could also be related to mechanisms of BCG-induced increases in IFN-γ or IL-4/JAK2/STAT3 levels.

Different biomarkers based on genomics variants have been used to predict the response of patients treated with PD-1/programmed death receptor 1 ligand (PD-L1) blockade. We aimed to use deep-learning algorithm to estimate clinical benefit in patients with non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) before immunotherapy. Peripheral blood samples or tumor tissues of 915 patients from three independent centers were profiled by whole-exome sequencing or next-generation sequencing. Based on convolutional neural network (CNN) and three conventional machine learning (cML) methods, we used multi-panels to train the models for predicting the durable clinical benefit (DCB) and combined them to develop a nomogram model for predicting prognosis. In the three cohorts, the CNN achieved the highest area under the curve of predicting DCB among cML, PD-L1 expression, and tumor mutational burden (area under the curve [AUC] = 0.965, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 0.949–0.978, P< 0.001; AUC =0.965, 95% CI: 0.940–0.989, P< 0.001; AUC = 0.959, 95% CI: 0.942–0.976, P< 0.001, respectively). Patients with CNN-high had longer progression-free survival (PFS) and overall survival (OS) than patients with CNN-low in the three cohorts. Subgroup analysis confirmed the efficient predictive ability of CNN. Combining three cML methods (CNN, SVM, and RF) yielded a robust comprehensive nomogram for predicting PFS and OS in the three cohorts (each P< 0.001). The proposed deep-learning method based on mutational genes revealed the potential value of clinical benefit prediction in patients with NSCLC and provides novel insights for combined machine learning in PD-1/PD-L1 blockade.

Gastric-type mucinous endocervical adenocarcinomas (GAS) are new variant types of cervical adenocarcinomas according to the 2014 World Health Organization (WHO) classification. GAS is a unique disease that can be differentiated from typical adenocarcinomas—it is less common and more aggressive and likely to have deep invasion and horizontal diffusion, invasion of the uterus and vagina, early distant metastases, and a lower 5-year survival rate compared to the usual-type cervical cancer. At present, initial treatment and postoperative adjuvant therapy are not conclusive, but early detection and early treatment are a consensus that can improve prognosis. Most of its occurrence has nothing to do with human papillomavirus (HPV) infection. Whether it is only negative for the subtypes that can be detected at present and whether it may be an unknown subtype of infection need to be further explored in the future. The clinical symptoms commonly include aqueous secretion, lower abdominal pain, and elevated serum carbohydrate antigen-19-9 (CA19-9) levels, which may be helpful for diagnosis. MRI and PET-CT can help to describe the characteristics of lesions and judge the state of the systemic metastasis. We believe that early detection and surgical treatment will give patients more benefits. Looking for potential gene and molecular changes and establishing biomarkers to identify molecular targets will be the key to early identification and target therapy.

BackgroundRecently, an increasing number of studies have uncovered the aberrant expression of methyltransferase-like family (METTL) plays an important role in tumorigenesis, such as METTL3 (an m6A writer). In our recent work, we discovered METTL24 expression was highly associated with the hazard ratio (HR) of kidney renal clear cell carcinoma (KIRC) compared to other tumors, implying a special function of METTL24 in KIRC carcinogenesis. Until now, the functions and mechanisms of METTL24 in KIRC have remained mostly unknown.MethodsThe mRNA expression of METTL24 in KIRC was analyzed using the TIMER 2.0, GEPIA, and UALCAN databases. The immunohistochemical assay was performed to validate METTL24 expression in our self-built Chinese cohort (n tumor = 88, n normal = 85). The gene set enrichment analysis (GSEA) was used to investigate the biological processes in which METTL24 might be engaged. The Spearman analysis was used to evaluate the expression correlations between METTL24 and a range of immunological variables, and the effects of METTL24 on the infiltration levels of multiple immune cells were explored using TCGA data. The upstream transcription factors of METTL24 were screened through a multi-omics analysis.ResultsMETTL24 expression in KIRC tissues was significantly decreased compared to normal adjacent kidney tissues, which was associated with the lower survival rate of KIRC patients. METTL24 potentially participated in the immune-relevant biological processes such as cytokine binding, NF-kappa B binding, MHC protein complex, and interleukin-12 action. Besides, METTL24 expression was linked to a number of immune checkpoints, cytokines, chemokines, and chemokine receptors, and also correlated with the infiltration levels of 10 types of immune cells in KIRC. Meanwhile, METTL24 expression differently affected the overall survival rates (OS) of KIRC patients with high or low levels of immune infiltration. Finally, CTCF and EP300 were discovered to be the probable transcription factors of METTL24 in KIRC.ConclusionThis study revealed that METTL24 might serve as a prognostic marker in KIRC and as one immune-relevant target for clinical treatment.

Objective: This study aims to investigate the status of fertility preservation (FP) in young breast cancer patients. Materials and methods: A clinical database of six women with breast cancer who wished to undergo FP before starting chemotherapy were analyzed between January 2018 and December 2019 in our hospital. Among the six women, three were unmarried and three were married. Results: Three patients chose oocyte preservation and obtained 23, 7, and 17 MII oocytes, respectively. One patient chose embryo freezing, and three embryos were frozen. Fertility preservation failed for two patients, one of whom had premature ovulation, while the other patient abandoned egg retrieval on the human chorionic gonadotropin (HCG) day. Conclusion: The present results indicate that oocyte and embryo cryopreservation are effective optional methods for young breast cancer patients. However, a lack of knowledge, the urgency of cancer treatment, and financial constraints are causes for a low access rate regarding this process.

Abstract In this work, we provide estimates of the branching ratios, direct CP asymmetries and triple product asymmetries in $$B_{(s)} \rightarrow (\pi \pi )(K\pi )$$ B ( s ) → ( π π ) ( K π ) decays in the perturbative QCD approach, where the $$\pi \pi $$ π π and $$K\pi $$ K π invariant mass spectra are dominated by the vector resonances $$\rho (770)$$ ρ ( 770 ) and $$K^*(892)$$ K ∗ ( 892 ) , respectively. Some scalar backgrounds, such as $$f_0(500,980) \rightarrow \pi \pi $$ f 0 ( 500 , 980 ) → π π and $$K^*_0(1430) \rightarrow K\pi $$ K 0 ∗ ( 1430 ) → K π are also accounted for. The $$\rho (700)$$ ρ ( 700 ) is parametrized by the Gounaris-Sakurai function. The relativistic Breit-Wigner formula for the $$f_0(500)$$ f 0 ( 500 ) and Flatté model for the $$f_0(980)$$ f 0 ( 980 ) are adopted to parameterize the time-like scalar form factors $$F_S(\omega ^2)$$ F S ( ω 2 ) . We also use the D.V. Bugg model to parameterize the $$f_0(500)$$ f 0 ( 500 ) and compare the relevant theoretical predictions from different models. While in the region of $$K\pi $$ K π invariant mass, the $$K^*_0(1430)$$ K 0 ∗ ( 1430 ) is described with the LASS lineshape and the $$K^*(892)$$ K ∗ ( 892 ) is modeled by the Breit-Wigner function. We find that the decay rates for the considered decay modes agree with currently available data within errors. As a by-product, we extract the branching ratios of two-body decays $$B_{(s)} \rightarrow \rho (770)K^*(892)$$ B ( s ) → ρ ( 770 ) K ∗ ( 892 ) from the corresponding four-body decay modes and calculate the relevant polarization fractions. Our prediction of longitudinal polarization fraction for $$B^0\rightarrow \rho (770)^0 K^*(892)^0$$ B 0 → ρ ( 770 ) 0 K ∗ ( 892 ) 0 decay deviates a lot from the recent LHCb measurement, which should be resolved. It is shown that the direct CP asymmetries are large due to the sizable interference between the tree and penguin contributions, but they are small for the tree-dominant or penguin-dominant processes. The PQCD predictions for the “true” triple product asymmetries are small which are expected in the standard model, and consistent with the current data reported by the LHCb Collaboration. Our results can be tested by the future precise data from the LHCb and Belle II experiments.

Abstract Background Long non-coding RNA (LncRNA) controls cell proliferation and plays a significant role in the initiation and progression of esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC). N6-methyladenosine (m6A) modification now is recognized as a master driver of RNA function to maintain homeostasis in cancer cells. However, how m6A regulates LncRNA function and its role in tumorigenesis of ESCC remain unclear. Methods Multiple ESCC datasets were used to analyze gene expression in tumor tissues and normal tissues. Kaplan-Meier method and the ROC curve were conducted to evaluate the prognostic value and diagnostic value of LINC00022 in ESCC, respectively. Both gain-of-function and loss-of-function experiments were employed to investigate the effects of LINC00022 on ESCC growth in vitro and in vivo. Bioinformatics analysis, colorimetric m6A assay, RIP, MeRIP and co-IP was performed to explore the epigenetic mechanism of LINC00022 up-regulation in ESCC. Results Here we report that m6A demethylation of LncRNA LINC00022 by fat mass and obesity-associated protein (FTO) promotes tumor growth of ESCC in vivo. Clinically, we revealed that LINC00022 was up-regulated in primary ESCC samples and was predictive of poor clinical outcome for ESCC patients. Mechanistically, LINC00022 directly binds to p21 protein and promotes its ubiquitination-mediated degradation, thereby facilitating cell-cycle progression and proliferation. Further, the elevated FTO in ESCC decreased m6A methylation of LINC00022 transcript, leading to the inhibition of LINC00022 decay via the m6A reader YTHDF2. Over-expression of FTO was shown to drive LINC00022-dependent cell proliferation and tumor growth of ESCC. Conclusions Thus, this study demonstrated m6A-mediated epigenetic modification of LncRNA contributes to the tumorigenesis in ESCC and LINC00022, specific target of m6A, serves as a potential biomarker for this malignancy.

A copper-catalyzed mono-selective C–H amination of ferrocenes assisted by 8-aminoquinoline is presented here. A range of amines, including bioactive molecules, were successfully installed to the ortho-position of ferrocene amides with high efficiency under mild conditions. A range of functionalized ferrocenes were compatible to give the aminated products in moderate to good yields. The gram-scale reaction was smoothly conducted and the directing group could be removed easily under basic conditions.

Objective To explore the development of hip arthroscopy in China through reviewing the change of the application of hip arthroscopy operation on treating femoracetabular impingement (FAI). Method Papers were retrieved from January 1, 2005 to November 1, 2019, from databases CNKI, Wanfang Data, VIP, PubMed, and Embase. The keywords are Hip Impingement, Femoroacetabular impingement, Hip arthroscopy, Arthroscopic operation, Hip Arthroscopy operation, and Arthroscope, etc. The quality of papers was assessed through MINORS , and statistics and meta‐analysis were performed by Word, Excel, and Revman 5.3 Zurich, Switzerland. Results From a total of 8,953 papers, 46 review articles without data and 48 articles with data were involved, and 25 papers were included in the Meta‐analysis. The twenty‐five papers were selected from 48 papers with data, of which 41 were reported in Chinese, 11 were missing complete Harris scores, five did not mention the number of patients who had lost follow‐up, three had minors quality scores below 7, one did not have enough FAI cases, and three did not have standard deviations in Harris scores. Overall, in China, the application of hip arthroscopy regarding FAI has flourished while maintaining a high level of treatment and has reached its peak in the past 2 years. Conclusion With the rapid development of hip arthroscopy in China, hip operation is widely recognized, many reports on its application on FAI have emerged successively, and the scope of application and technical level have been improved.

Abstract Background Post-contrast acute kidney injury (PC-AKI) is a severe complication of coronary angiography (CAG) and percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). Currently, the effect of statins on PC-AKI and its mechanism remains unclear. Methods This multicenter retrospective observational study included 4386 patients who underwent CAG or PCI from December 2006 to December 2019 in Sir Run Run Shaw Hospital and its medical consortium hospitals. Serum creatinine pre- or post-procedure within 72 h after PCI was recorded. Multivariate logical regression was used to explore whether preoperative use of statins was protective from PC-AKI. The path analysis model was then utilized to look for the mediation factors of statins. Results Four thousand three hundred eighty-six patients were enrolled totally. The median age of the study population was 68 years old, 17.9% with PC-AKI, and 83.3% on preoperative statins therapy. The incidence of PC-AKI was significantly lower in group of patients on statins therapy. Extensive evidence has revealed that ferroptosis plays a vital role in HCC development and progression. Fanconi anemia complementation group D2 (FANCD2) has been reported to serve as a ferroptosis-associated gene and has a close relationship with tumorigenesis and drug resistance. However, the impact of the FANCD2-related immune response and its mechanisms in HCC remains incompletely understood. In the current research, we evaluated the prognostic significance and immune-associated mechanism of FANCD2 based on multiple bioinformatics methods and databases. The results demonstrated that FANCD2 was commonly upregulated in 15/33 tumors, and only the high expression of FANCD2 in HCC was closely correlated with worse clinical outcomes by OS and DFS analyses. Moreover, ncRNAs, including two major types, miRNAs and lncRNAs, were closely involved in mediating FANCD2 upregulation in HCC and were established in a ceRNA network by performing various in silico analyses. The DUXAP8-miR-29c-FANCD2 and LINC00511-miR-29c-FANCD2 axes were identified as the most likely ncRNA-associated upstream regulatory axis of FANCD2 in HCC. Finally, FANCD2 expression was confirmed to be positively related to HCC immune cell infiltration, immune checkpoints, and IPS analysis, and GSEA results also revealed that this ferroptosis-associated gene was primarily involved in cancer-associated pathways in HCC. In conclusion, our investigations indicate that ncRNA-related modulatory overexpression of FANCD2 might act as a promising prognostic and immunotherapeutic target against HCC.

More than 405 million people have contracted coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) worldwide, and mycotic infection may be related to COVID-19 development. There are a large number of reports showing that COVID-19 patients with mycotic infection have an increased risk of mortality. However, whether mycotic infection can be considered a risk factor for COVID-19 remains unknown. We searched the PubMed and Web of Science databases for studies published from inception to December 27, 2021. Pooled effect sizes were calculated according to a random-effects model or fixed-effect model, depending on heterogeneity. We also performed subgroup analyses to identify differences in mortality rates between continents and fungal species. A total of 20 articles were included in this study. Compared with the controls, patients with mycotic infection had an odds ratio (OR) of 2.69 [95% confidence interval (CI): 2.22–3.26] for mortality and an OR of 2.28 (95% CI: 1.65–3.16) for renal replacement therapy (RRT). We also conducted two subgroup analyses based on continent and fungal species, and we found that Europe and Asia had the highest ORs, while Candida was the most dangerous strain of fungi. We performed Egger's test and Begg's test to evaluate the publication bias of the included articles, and the p-value was 0.423, which indicated no significant bias. Mycotic infection can be regarded as a risk factor for COVID-19, and decision makers should be made aware of this risk.

BackgroundExisting diabetes risk prediction models based on regression were limited in dealing with collinearity and complex interactions. Bayesian network (BN) model that considers interactions may provide additional information to predict risk and infer causation.MethodsBN model was constructed for new-onset diabetes using prospective data of 15,934 participants without diabetes at baseline [73% women; mean (standard deviation) age = 61.0 (6.9) years]. Participants were randomly assigned to a training (n = 12,748) set and a validation (n = 3,186) set. Model performances were assessed using area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC).ResultsDuring an average follow-up of 4.1 (interquartile range = 3.3–4.5) years, 1,302 (8.17%) participants developed diabetes. The constructed BN model showed the associations (direct, indirect, or no) among 24 risk factors, and only hypertension, impaired fasting glucose (IFG; fasting glucose of 5.6–6.9 mmol/L), and greater waist circumference (WC) were directly associated with new-onset diabetes. The risk prediction model showed that the post-test probability of developing diabetes in participants with hypertension, IFG, and greater WC was 27.5%, with AUC of 0.746 [95% confidence interval CI) = 0.732–0.760], sensitivity of 0.727 (95% CI = 0.703–0.752), and specificity of 0.660 (95% CI = 0.652–0.667). This prediction model appeared to perform better than a logistic regression model using the same three predictors (AUC = 0.734, 95% CI = 0.703–0.764, sensitivity = 0.604, and specificity = 0.745).ConclusionsWe have first reported a BN model in predicting new-onset diabetes with the smallest number of factors among existing models in the literature. BN yielded a more comprehensive figure showing graphically the inter-relations for multiple factors with diabetes than existing regression models.

Miracle berry is well-known for its ability to convert sour foods to sweet. In this study, the secondary metabolites of miracle berry leaves (MBL) were identified by UPLC-DAD-MS, and its antiangiogenesis and anticancer activities were evaluated by using a zebrafish model and the MCF-7 xenograft mouse model, respectively. The result showed that 18 phenolic compounds were identified in MBL extract, and dominated by the derivatives of quercetin and myricetin. The MBL extract showed low toxicity and high antiangiogenesis activity, it significantly inhibited the subintestinal vein vessels development in zebrafish at very low concentration. Furthermore, the MBL extract could promote the apoptosis of tumor cells and significantly inhibit the growth of MCF-7 xenograft tumor. In addition, the analysis of metabolites revealed that the MBL extract inhibited tumor growth by activating the metabolic pathways of unsaturated fatty acids and purines. Overall, this study suggests that MBL extract can be used as a natural anticancer adjuvant in the fields of functional foods.

BackgroundIn Leber’s hereditary optic neuropathy (LHON), mtDNA mutations mediate mitochondrial dysfunction and apoptosis of retinal ganglion cells. Mitochondrial superoxide dismutase 2 (SOD2) is a crucial antioxidase against reactive oxygen species (ROS). This study aims to investigate whether SOD2 could ameliorate mtDNA mutation mediated mitochondrial dysfunction in skin fibroblasts of LHON patients and explore the underlying mechanisms.MethodsThe skin of normal healthy subjects and severe LHON patients harboring m.11778G > A mutation was taken to prepare immortalized skin fibroblast cell lines (control-iFB and LHON-iFB). LHON-iFB cells were transfected with SOD2 plasmid or negative control plasmid, respectively. In addition, human neuroblastoma SH-SY5Y cells and human primary retinal pigmental epithelium (hRPE) cells were stimulated by H2O2 after gene transfection. The oxygen consumption rate (OCR) was measured with a Seahorse extracellular flux analyzer. The level of ATP production, mitochondrial membrane potential, ROS and malondialdehyde (MDA) were measured separately with the corresponding assay kits. The expression level of SOD2, inflammatory cytokines and p-IκBα/IκBα was evaluated by western-blot. Assessment of apoptosis was performed by TUNEL assay.ResultsLHON-iFB exhibited lower OCR, ATP production, mitochondrial membrane potential but higher level of ROS and MDA than control-iFB. Western-blot revealed a significantly increased expression of IL-6 and p-IκBα/IκBα in LHON-iFB. Compared with the negative control, SOD2 overexpression increased OCR, ATP production and elevated mitochondrial membrane potential, but impaired ROS and MDA production. Besides, western-blot demonstrated exogenous SOD2 reduced the protein level of IL-6 and p-IκBα/IκBα. TUNEL assays suggested SOD2 inhibited cells apoptosis. Analogously, in SH-SY5Y and hRPE cells, SOD2 overexpression increased ATP production and mitochondrial membrane potential, but decreased ROS, MDA levels and suppressed apoptosis.ConclusionSOD2 upregulation inhibited cells apoptosis through ameliorating mitochondrial dysfunction and reducing NF-κB associated inflammatory response. This study further support exogenous SOD2 may be a promising therapy for the treatment of LHON.

Tumors are the leading cause of death all over the world, among which ovarian cancer ranks the third in gynecological malignancies. The current treatment for ovarian cancer is liable to develop chemotherapy resistance and high recurrence rate, in which a new strategy is demanded. Ferroptosis, a newly discovered manner of regulatory cell death, is shown to be induced by massive iron-dependent accumulation of lipid reactive oxygen species. With the in-depth study of ferroptosis, its associated mechanism with various tumors is gradually elucidated, including ovarian tumor, which probably promotes the application of ferroptosis in treating ovarian cancer. To this end, this review will focus on the history and current research progress of ferroptosis, especially its regulation mechanism, and its potential application as a novel treatment strategy for ovarian cancer.

ObjectiveThe prognostic significance of troponin elevation following percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) remains debated. This study aimed to evaluate the association between different thresholds of post-PCI cardiac troponin I (cTnI) and mortality.MethodsFrom January 2012 to July 2017, 5,218 consecutive patients undergoing elective PCI with pre-PCI cTnI < 99th percentile of the upper reference limit (URL) were included. Levels of cTnI were measured before PCI and every 8 h for 24 h after procedural. The outcomes were 3-year cardiac mortality.ResultsPatients had a mean age of 66.2 years, 27.6% were women, 67.0% had hypertension, and 26.2% had diabetes mellitus. During the 3 years of follow-up, cardiac death occurred in 0.86%, 1.46%, 1.69%, 2.36%, and 2.86% of patients with cTnI < 1, ≥ 1 to < 5, ≥ 5 to < 35, ≥ 35 to < 70, and ≥ 70 times URL. The cardiac mortality rate was moderately increased with higher peak cTnI values, but the Kaplan–Meier curve demonstrated no significant association between any increment of cTnI and either cardiac or non-cardiac mortality. Isolated cTnI increment of ≥ 5 × URL, ≥ 35 × URL, and ≥ 70 × URL was occurred in 1,379 (26.4%), 197 (3.8%), and 70 (1.3%) patients, respectively. In multivariate Cox regression analysis and Fine-Gray model, none of the above cTnI thresholds was significantly associated with an increased risk of cardiac death.ConclusionIn patients who underwent elective PCI, post-PCI cTnI elevation is not independently associated with cardiac mortality.

The first-line anticancer agent oxaliplatin (OXL) is the preferred drug for treating colorectal cancer (CRC); however, the development of drug resistance is common in patients treated with OXL, which considerably reduces the efficacy of OXL-based regimens. By performing genome-wide CRISPR/Cas9 library knockdown screening, we found that mitochondrial elongation factor 2 (MIEF2) was among the top candidate genes. The OXL-resistant cell lines and organoids developed in the present study showed stable but low expression of MIEF2. Reduced MIEF2 expression may enhance CRC resistance to OXL by reducing mitochondrial stability and inhibiting apoptosis by decreasing cytochrome C release. In conclusion, among the different biomarkers of OXL resistance in CRC, MIEF2 may serve as a specific biomarker of OXL responsiveness and a potential target for the development of therapies to improve chemotherapeutic effectiveness.

BackgroundPosterior canal-benign paroxysmal positional vertigo-cupulolithiasis (PC-BPPV-cu) is a new and controversial type of benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV). At present, there are few relevant clinical studies as to whether the Half Dix-Hallpike test (Half D-HT) induces more obvious nystagmus than the Dix Hallpike test (D-HT) and straight head hanging test (SHH) in patients with PC-BPPV-cu.ObjectivesTo investigate the clinical characteristics of PC-BPPV-cu, and analyze the diagnostic significance of the Dix-Hallpike test (D-HT), Half D-HT, and straight head hanging (SHH) test in these patients.MethodsA total of 46 patients with PC-BPPV-cu were enrolled, and divided into two groups (N = 23): a group A (induction order: D-HT, Half D-HT, SHH) and a group B (induction order: Half D-HT, D-HT, SHH).ResultsAmong 46 patients with PC-BPPV-cu, the bilateral and unilateral abnormality rates of the disease side were 5 cases and 41 cases, respectively. There were significant differences in the proportion of torsional-upbeating nystagmus and upbeating nystagmus among the three headhanging positions in 46 patients with PC-BPPV-cu (P < 0.001). The slow phase velocity (SPV) of induced nystagmus at half D-HT supine position was slower than D-HT supine position (P < 0.05) and SHH supine position (P < 0.05). The nystagmus latency of D-HT supine position was significantly shorter than half D-HT (P < 0.05) and SHH (P < 0.05). PC-BPPV-cu patients were accompanied by 53.5% semicircular canal paresis, 69.6% audiological abnormalities, 76% cervical vestibular evoked myogenic potential (cVEMP), and 75% video head impulse test (vHIT) abnormalities, the concordance rates of the four detection methods were similar (χ2 = 0.243, P = 0.970).ConclusionsThe Half D-HT is simple and feasible, but might have a risk of false-negative diagnoses of the torsional-upbeating nystagmus and upbeating nystagmus. The D-HT is still a classic induction method for PC-BPPV-cu. The two complement each other and may aid in the diagnosis of PC-BPPV-cu patients. Future clinical applications of Half D-HT require extensive research to determine its diagnostic efficacy.

Heterogeneity is a major feature of Leber's hereditary optic neuropathy (LHON) and has a significant impact on the manifestation and diagnosis of the disease. This study explored whether multiple variations in mitochondrial genes were associated with the heterogeneity, mainly phenotypic heterogeneity. Ophthalmic examinations were conducted in two probands with LHON with G11778A and multiple mitochondrial DNA gene (mtDNA) variants. Skin fibroblast cell lines were generated from patients and age- and sex-matched controls. ROS levels, mitochondrial membrane potential, cell energy respiration, and metabolic functions were measured. Flow cytometry and cell viability tests were performed to evaluate the cell apoptosis levels and fate. We found that cells with more mtDNA variants had higher ROS levels, lower mitochondrial membrane potential, and weaker respiratory function. Flow cytometry and cell viability testing showed that multiple mtDNA variants are associated with different levels of cell viability and apoptosis. In conclusion, we found that skin-derived fibroblast cells from G11778A LHON patients could be used as models for LHON research. Multi-mtDNA variants contribute to mitochondrial function variety, which may be associated with heterogeneity in patients with LHON.

Cervical SCNEC is a rare and highly malignant invasive tumor. The incidence is low, at less than 5% of all cervical cancers. Moreover, most patients with small cell carcinoma are interrelated with high risk HPV (more familiar HPV 18). Compared to squamous cell carcinoma or adenocarcinoma, patients of cevical SCNEC are more prone to lymph node invasion early, so the clinical manifestation is usually local or distant metastasis. We summarized the clinical features of 19 patients with cervical small cell carcinoma in the Second Affiliated Hospital of Dalian Medical University from 2012 to 2021, and retrospectively analyzed data from 1576 patients in 20 related studies and more than 50 pieces of literature in recent years by searching PubMed, Google schalor, Cochrane Library, Clinicalkey, and other databases. The collected patient data included age, clinical manifestation, TCT, HPV detection, the size and morphology of the tumor, local invasion depth, stage, lymph node status, initial treatment method, tumor-free survival, and so on. The positive rates of CGA, SYN, and CD56 in our cases were high, and NSE was a moderately sensitive index. P16 and Ki67 were the most sensitive, and all patients were positive. We found that multimodal treatment can indeed improve tumor-free survival (DFS), but the prognosis of patients is still very poor. For the early stages, our treatment principles refer to the guidelines of SGO, international gynecological cancer Cooperation (GCIG), and NCCN. We suggest a combination of surgery, radiotherapy, and chemotherapy. However, the general state of advanced patients is poor, whether they can tolerate the operation after neoadjuvant chemotherapy, whether the operation area can remain tumor-free, and whether this treatment will prolong the survival time of patients still need to be further discussed. In order to better prolong the tumor-free survival and prognosis of patients, we need to find gene changes suitable for targeted therapy, so as to complete the clinical application of these treatment methods. Further works are needed to explore more effective therapy for cervical SCNEC.

Microtremor recording tests using an accelerometer were carried out in this paper with the aim of characterizing the effects of seasonally frozen soil on the seismic site response, including the two-direction microtremor spectrum, site predominant frequency, and site amplification factor. The study selected eight typical seasonal permafrost sites in China for site microtremor measurements during both summer and winter seasons. Based on the recorded data, the horizontal and vertical components of the microtremor spectrum, HVSR curves, site predominant frequency, and site amplification factor were calculated. The results showed that seasonally frozen soil increased the predominant frequency of the horizontal component of the microtremor spectrum, while the effect on the vertical component was less noticeable. It indicates that the frozen soil layer has a significant impact on the propagation path and energy dissipation of seismic waves in the horizontal direction. Furthermore, the peak values of the horizontal and vertical components of the microtremor spectrum decreased by 30% and 23%, respectively, due to the presence of seasonally frozen soil. The predominant frequency of the site increased by a maximum of 35% and a minimum of 2.8%, while the amplification factor decreased by a maximum of 38% and a minimum of 11%. Additionally, a relationship between the increased site predominant frequency and the cover thickness was proposed.

As an indispensable module of computer-aided pronunciation training (CAPT) systems, mispronunciation detection and diagnosis (MDD) techniques have attracted a lot of attention from academia and industry over the past decade. To train robust MDD models, this technique requires massive human-annotated speech recordings which are usually expensive and even hard to acquire. In this study, we propose to use transfer learning to tackle the problem of data scarcity from two aspects. First, from audio modality, we explore the use of the pretrained model wav2vec2.0 for MDD tasks by learning robust general acoustic representation. Second, from text modality, we explore transferring prior texts into MDD by learning associations between acoustic and textual modalities. We propose textual modulation gates that assign more importance to the relevant text information while suppressing irrelevant text information. Moreover, given the transcriptions, we propose an extra contrastive loss to reduce the difference of learning objectives between the phoneme recognition and MDD tasks. Conducting experiments on the L2-Arctic dataset showed that our wav2vec2.0 based models outperformed the conventional methods. The proposed textual modulation gate and contrastive loss further improved the F1-score by more than 2.88% and our best model achieved an F1-score of 61.75%.

The family of phosphatidylinositol transfer proteins (PITPs) is able to bind specific lipids to carry out various biological functions throughout different stages of plant life. But the function of PITPs in rice plant is unclear. In this study, 30 PITPs were identified from rice genome, which showed differences in physicochemical properties, gene structure, conservation domains, and subcellular localization. The promoter region of the OsPITPs genes included at least one type of hormone response element, such as methyl jasmonate (Me JA) and salicylic acid (SA). Furthermore, the expression level of OsML-1, OsSEC14-3, OsSEC14-4, OsSEC14-15, and OsSEC14-19 genes were significantly affected by infection of rice blast fungus Magnaporthe oryzae. Based on these findings, it is possible that OsPITPs may be involved in rice innate immunity in response to M. oryzae infection through the Me JA and SA pathway.

Considering the notion that “lucid waters and lush mountains are invaluable assets”, the effective exploitation of the economic value of forest resources is an important research topic, especially in forest-rich areas. The development of the non-timber forest products (NTFPs) industry has promoted both ecological and economic benefits and has effectively improved farmers’ incomes while protecting forest resources. In order to evaluate the effects of the NTFPs industry on sustaining farmers’ livelihoods and protecting ecological environments, we constructed a performance evaluation index system to determine the poverty alleviation performance of the NTFPs industry in Yunnan Province using the analytic hierarchy process (AHP), which covered three aspects: the achievement of poverty alleviation, the sustainability of poverty alleviation and satisfaction with poverty alleviation. Then, we selected Sanhe Village in Nujiang Prefecture, Yunnan Province, as an example to verify and rationalize the evaluation index system and comprehensively evaluate the poverty alleviation performance of the NTFPs industry. Based on data from questionnaires and field interviews, we found the following: (1) the overall poverty alleviation performance of the NTFPs industry in Sanhe Village was 79.33, which indicated that the effect was good; (2) the scores for the achievement of poverty alleviation, the sustainability of poverty alleviation and satisfaction with poverty alleviation were 50.56, 18.57 and 10.2, respectively; (3) there were some problems with the poverty alleviation performance of the NTFPs industry, such as limited capital investments, the weak roles of cooperatives and enterprises, the low enthusiasm of lower-income households and incomplete poverty alleviation projects. Finally, we devised some suggestions that could improve the poverty alleviation performance of the NTFPs industry. This paper presents the performance evaluation index system for the poverty alleviation performance of the NTFPs industry, which could provide a reference for evaluating the developmental effects of the NTFPs industry in other lower-income forest areas. Through our empirical analysis of the development effects of the NTFPs industry on farmers’ livelihoods and ecological environments in Sanhe Village, we found that the development of the NTFPs industry significantly improved the farmers’ livelihoods and ecological environments.

Abstract Backgrounds Liver hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is one of the most malignant tumors, of which prognosis is unsatisfactory in most cases and metastatic of HCC often results in poor prognosis. In this study, we aimed to construct a metastasis- related mRNAs prognostic model to increase the accuracy of prediction of HCC prognosis. Methods Three hundred seventy-four HCC samples and 50 normal samples were downloaded from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) database, involving transcriptomic and clinical data. Metastatic-related genes were acquired from HCMBD website at the same time. Two hundred thirty-three samples were randomly divided into train dataset and test dataset with a proportion of 1:1 by using caret package in R. Kaplan-Meier method and univariate Cox regression analysis and lasso regression analysis were performed to obtain metastasis-related mRNAs which played significant roles in prognosis. Then, using multivariate Cox regression analysis, a prognostic prediction model was established. Transcriptome and clinical data were combined to construct a prognostic model and a nomogram for OS evaluation. Functional enrichment in high- and low-risk groups were also analyzed by GSEA. An entire set based on The International Cancer Genome Consortium(ICGC) database was also applied to verify the model. The expression levels of SLC2A1, CDCA8, ATG10 and HOXD9 are higher in tumor samples and lower in normal tissue samples. The expression of TPM1 in clinical sample tissues is just the opposite. Results One thousand eight hundred ninety-five metastasis-related mRNAs were screened and 6 mRNAs were associated with prognosis. The overall survival (OS)-related prognostic model based on 5 MRGs (TPM1,SLC2A1, CDCA8, ATG10 and HOXD9) was significantly stratified HCC patients into high- and low-risk groups. The AUC values of the 5-gene prognostic signature at 1 year, 2 years, and 3 years were 0.786,0.786 and 0.777. Based on outcrop, drilling, logging, geochemical analysis and seismic data, the karst landform and distribution of Permian volcanic rocks at the end of the sedimentary period of the Maokou Formation in the western Sichuan Basin are examined, and their petroleum geological significance is discussed. Affected by normal faults formed in the early magmatic activities and extension tectonic background in the late sedimentary period of the Maokou Formation, a local karst shallow depression under the background of karst slope came up in the Jianyang area of the western Sichuan Basin, where the residual thickness of the Maokou Formation was thinner. Basic volcanic rocks like pyroclastic rock of eruptive facies, basalt of overflow facies, diabase porphyrite of intrusive facies and sedimentary tuff of volcanic sedimentary facies were formed after karstification. However, under the effects of faulting and karst paleogeomorphology, the volcanic rocks in different areas had different accumulation features. In the Jianyang area, with long eruption time, the volcanic rocks were thick and complex in lithology, and accumulated in the karst depressions. In the Zhongjiang-Santai area located in the karst slope, there’s no fault developed, only thin layers of basalt and sedimentary tuff turned up. The karst landform controls the build-up of thick explosive facies volcanic rocks and also the development of karst reservoirs in the Maokou Formation, and the western Sichuan area has oil and gas exploration potential in volcanic rocks and the Maokou Formation.

Abstract Objective The present study investigated the potential correlation between non-high-density lipoprotein cholesterol/high-density lipoprotein cholesterol ratio (non-HDL-C/HDL) and the formation of coronary collateral circulation (CCC) in coronary artery disease cases with chronic total occlusive (CTO) lesions. Methods Two experienced cardiologists identified and selected patients with CTO lesions for retrospective analysis. The 353 patients were divided into a CCC poor formation group (Rentrop 0–1 grade, n = 209) and a CCC good formation group (Rentrop 2–3 grade, n = 144) based on the Cohen-Rentrop standard. A comparison of non-HDL-C/HDL ratios between the two groups was performed. The Spearman test was used to obtain the correlation between the cholesterol ratio and Rentrop grade. Independent predictors of CCC were analyzed using logistic regression. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis was also performed to quantify the predictive value of research indicator. Results The non-HDL-C/HDL ratio in the CCC poor formation group was elevated markedly compared to the CCC good formation group [( 3.86 ± 1.40) vs ( 3.31 ± 1.22), P = 0.000]. The Spearman test results indicated that non-HDL-C/HDL negatively correlated with Rentrop grade (r = − 0.115, P = 0.030). Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that non-HDL-C/HDL ratio was an independent predictor of CCC formation (OR = 1.195, 95%CI = 1.020–1.400, P = 0.027). The area under the curve of ROC for detecting CCC poor formation was 0.611 (95% CI: 0.551–0.671, P = 0.000) with an optimal cut-off value of 2.77. Conclusion Non-HDL-C/HDL negatively correlated with the formation of CCC and served as an independent predictor of CCC formation, which may be used as a biomarker for the evaluation of CCC.

Objective: This study aims to discuss the differential diagnosis value of endometrial volume and flow parameters in combination with serum carbohydrate antigen 125 (CA125) in endometrial benign and malignant lesions. Materials and methods: The data of 250 patients with endometrial lesions were retrospectively analyzed. Carbohydrate antigen 125 (CA125) was determined before the operation. The morphology, hemodynamics, volume and flow parameters of the endometrium were measured by transvaginal three-dimensional-power Doppler angiography (3D-PDA). The endometrial volume (EV), 3D-PDA vascular index (VI), flow index (FI) and vascularization flow index (VFI) were calculated using the virtual organ computer-aided analysis software (VOCAL). Results: According to the pathological results, 202 patients (80.8%) had benign endometrial lesions and 48 patients (19.2%) had endometrial cancer (EC). The endometrium of EC patients was thicker (15.64 ± 7.26 mm vs. 9.24 ± 5.06 mm, P 0.05). Conclusion: Transvaginal 3D-PDA can clearly show the morphological and hemodynamic characteristics of endometrial lesions, and assist in the detection of EC in combination with serum CA125. This may have important clinical application value.

Abstract We investigate the four-body decays B (s) → (Kπ) S/P (Kπ) S/P in the Kπ-pair invariant mass region around the K *(892) resonance in the perturbative QCD (PQCD) approach, where (Kπ) S/P denotes a S- or P-wave Kπ configuration. The contributions from the P-wave resonance K *(892) and from possible S-wave components are included into the parametrization of the Kπ two-meson distribution amplitudes, which are the non-perturbative inputs in this formalism. We calculate the branching ratio for each resonance and observe sizable S-wave contributions to the B s modes, well consistent with recently available LHCb data. We also deduce the polarization fractions for the K ∗ K ¯ ∗ $$ {K}^{\ast }{\overline{K}}^{\ast } $$ final states, and compare our predictions to those in previous PQCD analyses of the corresponding two-body B → K ∗ K ¯ ∗ $$ {K}^{\ast }{\overline{K}}^{\ast } $$ decays. The polarization puzzle associated with the two U-spin related channels B 0 → K ∗ 0 K ¯ ∗ 0 $$ {K}^{\ast 0}{\overline{K}}^{\ast 0} $$ and B s 0 → K ∗ 0 K ¯ ∗ 0 $$ {B}_s^0\to {K}^{\ast 0}{\overline{K}}^{\ast 0} $$ still exists. In addition to direct CP asymmetries, triple-product asymmetries and S-wave induced direct CP asymmetries originating from the interference among various helicity amplitudes, are presented. It is shown that true triple-product asymmetries are rather small, while direct CP asymmetries and S-wave-induced direct CP asymmetries are significant in some decays. Our results will be subject to stringent tests with precise data from B factories in the near future.

Abstract Background Oral lichen planus (OLP), a common clinical oral disease, is associated with an increased risk of malignant transformation. The mechanism underlying the pathogenesis of OLP is unknown. Oral dysbacteriosis is reported to be one of the aetiological factors of OLP. Although Helicobacter pylori infection is associated with various oral diseases, the correlation between H. pylori infection and OLP is unclear. This study aimed to investigate the effect of H. pylori infection on OLP pathogenesis and oral microbiome composition in the Chinese population, which has a high incidence of H. pylori infection. Result In this study, saliva samples of 30 patients with OLP (OLP group) and 21 negative controls (NC group) were collected. H. pylori infection was detected using the carbon-13-labeled urea breath test (UBT). The saliva samples were divided into the following four groups based on the H. pylori status: H. pylori-positive OLP (OLP+), H. pylori-positive NC (NC+), H. pylori-negative OLP (OLP−), and H. pylori-negative NC (NC−). Oral microbiome compositions were significantly different between the OLP and NC groups and between the OLP− and OLP+ groups. Compared with those in the OLP− group, those in the OLP+ group had a higher incidence of erosive OLP and higher levels of salivary cytokines. In contrast, the oral microbiome composition and cytokine levels were not significantly different between the NC− and NC+ groups. Conclusions This is the first report to demonstrate that H. pylori infection is significantly correlated with the pathogenesis of erosive OLP.

Abstract A comparative investigation is made of stator consequent‐pole (SCP) machines with different permanent magnet (PM) arrangements. Compared with conventional surface‐mounted PM (SPM) configurations, SCP configurations produce more orders of air‐gap field harmonics. Due to asymmetrical PM magnetomotive force (MMF) distributions and the double‐side slotting effect, SCP machines exhibit multiple air‐gap field harmonics, especially relatively enhanced low‐order field harmonics, for torque production. As a consequence, improved torque capability can be obtained over that of conventional SPM counterparts. Machine topologies and operating principles are described. The design parameters of four SCP machines with different magnet arrangements are globally optimised. The key electromagnetic performances, including open‐circuit performance, torque quality, field‐weakening capability, and efficiency, are comprehensively investigated and compared by the finite element (FE) method. Finally, some experimental measurements on an optimally selected SCP machine prototype are carried out to validate the theoretical and FE analyses.

Summary: Background: There were no reports on the associations of aortic arch calcification (AAC) measured by chest X-ray with all-cause mortality and cardiovascular disease (CVD) in older general population. Moreover, previous studies of hemodialysis patients showed that AAC was correlated with left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH) and predicted CVD jointly. Whether the effects remained in the general population is unknown. We examined the associations of AAC with all-cause mortality and CVD in general population and the risk associated with the coexistence of AAC and LVH. Methods: Presence and severity (grades 0-2) of AAC were measured by chest X-ray, and LVH was identified by 12-lead electrocardiogram in 27,166 Chinese aged 50+ years free of CVD from Guangzhou Biobank Cohort Study. Multivariate Cox regressions were used to examine associations of AAC and LVH with outcomes. Findings: During an average follow-up of 14·3 years, 5,350 deaths and 4,012 CVD occurred. Compared to those without AAC at baseline, those with AAC had higher risks of all-cause mortality (HR 1·24, 95% CI 1·17-1·31) and CVD (HR 1·22, 95% CI 1·14-1·30), with dose-response relationship (P ≤ 0·001). Furthermore, those with coexistence of AAC and LVH had higher risks of all-cause mortality (HR 1·72, 95% CI 1·37-2·15) and CVD (HR 1·80, 95% CI 1·40-2·32) than those without AAC and LVH. Interpretation: As chest X-ray has been performed commonly for health screening and in hospital patients when first admitted, AAC measured by chest X-ray can be further applied to assist cardiovascular risk stratification in the community and clinical settings. The total water-soluble polysaccharide (TP) of Dendrobium catenatum is composed of starch and active non-starch polysaccharides (NSPs) with glucomannan as the main structural type. Although the TP content has been used as a quality assessment indicator for many years, the NSPs content in samples from different environments and growth seasons have not been reported. In this study, we found that NSPs had stronger antioxidant activity than TP. The NSPs content was higher in wild-simulated environments including rocks and trees compared to plantings grown in greenhouse. The culture mode and growth period affected the ratio of NSPs and starch. Facility cultivation provided optimal growth conditions but produced more starch, whereas wild-simulated cultivation resulted in a higher ratio of NSPs, particularly in September. Therefore, cultivation by lithophytation and epiphytation may be preferable to facility plantings, which is expected to be enormously useful for the current production and quality control of D. catenatum.

Music can express people’s thoughts and emotions. Music therapy is to stimulate and hypnotize the human brain by using various forms of music activities, such as listening, singing, playing and rhythm. With the empowerment of artificial intelligence, music therapy technology has made innovative development in the whole process of “diagnosis, treatment and evaluation.” It is necessary to make use of the advantages of artificial intelligence technology to innovate music therapy methods, ensure the accuracy of treatment schemes, and provide more paths for the development of the medical field. This paper proposes an long short-term memory (LSTM)-based generation and classification algorithm for multi-voice music data. A Multi-Voice Music Generation system called MVMG based on the algorithm is developed. MVMG contains two main steps. At first, the music data are modeled to the MDPI and text sequence data by using an autoencoder model, including music features extraction and music clip representation. And then an LSTM-based music generation and classification model is developed for generating and analyzing music in specific treatment scenario. MVMG is evaluated based on the datasets collected by us: the single-melody MIDI files and the Chinese classical music dataset. The experiment shows that the highest accuracy of the autoencoder-based feature extractor can achieve 95.3%. And the average F1-score of LSTM is 95.68%, which is much higher than the DNN-based classification model.

Brittleness index is an important parameter for the exploration and development of tight sandstone reservoir. In this paper, a new method for calculating brittleness index using conventional logging data was established to find the high-quality exploration and development target area of tight sandstone reservoir in He8 Member of Permian in the western margin of the Ordos Basin. Firstly, the mineral composition and content of rock samples in the study area were analyzed by rock mineral X-ray diffraction, and the brittleness index was calculated according to the mineral content with the average of 70.85%. Then, three kinds of brittleness index logging prediction models were obtained by conventional logging curves such as natural gamma and compressional wave interval transit time. Each prediction model was corrected by the brittleness index calculated according to the X-ray diffraction experiment, and the correlation coefficients were 0.83, 0.58, and 0.71, respectively. Finally, through multiple regression, the comprehensive equation for brittleness index prediction was established by combining these three kinds of models. According to the example of the specific well in the study area, the brittleness index predicted by conventional logging is highly matched with the interpretation results of array acoustic logging with the correlation coefficient of 0.90, which means the accuracy of the comprehensive equation has been verified. The new method can evaluate reservoir brittleness by conventional logging data in the absence of rock sample test data and popularize the application of brittleness index in oil and gas field exploration and development.

ObjectiveTo investigate trends in clinical monitoring indices in HIV/AIDS patients receiving antiretroviral therapy (ART) at baseline and after treatment in Yunnan Province, China and to provide the basis for guiding clinical treatment to obtain superior clinical outcomes.MethodsA total of 96 HIV/AIDS patients who had started and persisted in highly active ART treatment from September 2009 to September 2019 were selected. Of these, 54 had a CD4 cell count < 200 cells/μl while 42 had a CD4 cell count ≥ 200 cells/μl. Routine blood tests, liver and renal function, and lipid levels were measured before and 3, 6, 9, and 12 months after treatment. Lymphocyte subset counts and viral load were measured once per year, and recorded for analysis and evaluation. Three machine learning models (support vector machine [SVM], random forest [RF], and multi-layer perceptron [MLP]) were constructed that used the clinical indicators above as parameters. Baseline and follow-up results of routine blood and organ function tests were used to analyze and predict CD4+ T cell data after treatment during long-term follow-up. Predictions of the three models were preliminarily evaluated.ResultsThere were no statistical differences in gender, age, or HIV transmission route in either patient group. Podocytes damage and mesangial cells expansion are two important pathological manifestations of glomerular injury in early diabetes. Telmisartan, as an angiotensin type 1 (AT1) receptor inhibitor, could improve advanced glycation end (AGE) products or angiotensin Ⅱ (Ang Ⅱ)-induced podocytes injury including detachment or apoptosis. In this current paper, we first confirmed the protective effect of telmisartan on early diabetic kidney injury in type 1 diabetic rats. Telmisartan reduced the loss of podocin and inhibited the expression of α-SMA, reflecting its protective effect on podocyte injury and mesangial proliferation, respectively. More interestingly we observed an opposite effect of telmisartan on the cell viability and apoptosis of podocytes and mesangial cells in a high-glucose environment in vitro. The anti-apoptotic effect of telmisartan on podocytes might be related to its inhibition of swiprosin-1 (a protein can mediate high glucose-induced podocyte apoptosis) expression. While telmisartan induced a high expression of PPARγ in mesangial cells, and GW9662 (a PPARγ antagonist) partially inhibited telmisartan-induced apoptosis and reduced viability of mesangial cells. In addition, high glucose-induced PKCβ1/TGFβ1 expression in mesangial cells could be blocked by telmisartan. These data provide a more precise cellular mechanism for revealing the protective effect of telmisartan in diabetic kidney injury.
