Software bug localization is an important task in bug fixing process.The bug report-oriented localization approaches typically use software bug reports that describe the phenomenon of bugs as queries,and source code as corpus.First,correlations between the bug report and each source code unit are analyzed.Then,a bug localization data set is created by mining the software repository,aiming to construct a bug localization model to localize the source code unit(i.e.bug location) corresponding to the bug report.This paper offers a systematic survey of existing research achievements of the domestic and foreign studies of bug localization in recent years.First,the related concepts in bug report-oriented bug localization are introduced,and the main localization process is summarized,followed by discussing the existing research works that focus on the three key steps in the localization process.Then,the commonly used data sets and evaluation metrics for bug localization are summarized.Finally,future work in this research area is discussed.

Background: The incidence of extrauterine growth retardation (EUGR) varies considerably in different countries due to the distinct definitions and inclusion criteria of individual studies. Most studies included small for gestational age (SGA) very preterm infants (VPIs), resulting in a higher incidence of EUGR. Experts have suggested the accurate definition of “EUGR” in SGA infants is not “true EUGR”. The postnatal growth curve of multiple premature births also differs from that of singletons. As far as we know, there is no study about relationship between singleton-non-SGA preterm infants and EUGR. Objectives: To analyze the factors influencing EUGR among VPIs who were singleton-non-SGA in China. Methods: A prospective-multicenter study was conducted in 28 hospitals distributed through China from September 2019 to December 2020. The clinical data on singleton-non-SGA among VPIs were divided into EUGR group (n = 692) and non-EUGR group (n = 912). Results: Compared to non-EUGR group, the mean gestational age (GA), mean birth weight (BW) and percentage of BW in Fenton curve in EUGR group were lower (P < 0.001 for all). Abstract Long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) are usually 5′ capped and 3′ polyadenylated, similar to most typical mRNAs. However, recent studies revealed a type of snoRNA-related lncRNA with unique structures, leading to questions on how they are processed and how they work. Here, we identify a novel snoRNA-related lncRNA named LNC-SNO49AB containing two C/D box snoRNA sequences, SNORD49A and SNORD49B; and show that LNC-SNO49AB represents an unreported type of lncRNA with a 5′-end m7G and a 3′-end snoRNA structure. LNC-SNO49AB was found highly expressed in leukemia patient samples, and silencing LNC-SNO49AB dramatically suppressed leukemia progression in vitro and in vivo. Subcellular location indicated that the LNC-SNO49AB is mainly located in nucleolus and interacted with the nucleolar protein fibrillarin. However, we found that LNC-SNO49AB does not play a role in 2′-O-methylation regulation, a classical function of snoRNA; instead, its snoRNA structure affected the lncRNA stability. We further demonstrated that LNC-SNO49AB could directly bind to the adenosine deaminase acting on RNA 1(ADAR1) and promoted its homodimerization followed by a high RNA A-to-I editing activity. Transcriptome profiling shows that LNC-SNO49AB and ADAR1 knockdown respectively share very similar patterns of RNA modification change in downstream signaling pathways, especially in cell cycle pathways. These findings suggest a previously unknown class of snoRNA-related lncRNAs, which function via a manner in nucleolus independently on snoRNA-guide rRNA modification. This is the first report that a lncRNA regulates genome-wide RNA A-to-I editing by enhancing ADAR1 dimerization to facilitate hematopoietic malignancy, suggesting that LNC-SNO49AB may be a novel target in therapy directed to leukemia.

Abstract The discovery of two-dimensional (2D) van der Waals (vdW) materials often provides interesting playgrounds to explore novel phenomena. One of the missing components in 2D vdW materials is the intrinsic heavy-fermion systems, which can provide an additional degree of freedom to study quantum critical point (QCP), unconventional superconductivity, and emergent phenomena in vdW heterostructures. Here, we investigate 2D vdW heavy-fermion candidates through the database of experimentally known compounds based on dynamical mean-field theory calculation combined with density functional theory (DFT+DMFT). We have found that the Kondo resonance state of CeSiI does not change upon exfoliation and can be easily controlled by strain and surface doping. Our result indicates that CeSiI is an ideal 2D vdW heavy-fermion material and the quantum critical point can be identified by external perturbations.

Curcumae Longae Rhizoma (turmeric), Curcumae Radix and Curcumae Rhizoma are derived from the Curcuma species, and have gradually become three of the most commonly used medicinal herbs in China due to their different origins, processing methods and medicinal part. These three herbs have certain similarities in morphology, chemical composition, and pharmacological effects. All three of these herbs contain curcuminoids and volatile oil compounds, which exhibit anti-inflammatory, anti-tumor, antioxidant, and neuroprotective properties, although modern clinical applications have their own requirements. At present, there is no systematic guidelines for the clinical application of these three of Curcuma species; consequently, there is a high risk of unwanted phenomena associated with the mixing and indiscriminate use of these herbs. In this review, we focus predominantly on morphology, chemical composition, and the pharmacological activity of these three Curcuma herbs and summarize the current status of research in this field. Our goal is to provide a better understanding of clinical value of these Curcuma species so that we can provide reference guidelines for their further development, utilization and rational clinical application.

The infrageneric taxonomy system, species delimitation, and interspecies systematic relationships of Leontopodium remain controversial and complex. However, only a few studies have focused on the molecular phylogeny of this genus. In this study, the characteristics of 43 chloroplast genomes of Leontopodium and its closely related genera were analyzed. Phylogenetic relationships were inferred based on chloroplast genomes and nuclear ribosomal DNA (nrDNA). Finally, together with the morphological characteristics, the relationships within Leontopodium were identified and discussed. The results showed that the chloroplast genomes of Filago, Gamochaeta, and Leontopodium were well-conserved in terms of gene number, gene order, and GC content. The most remarkable differences among the three genera were the length of the complete chloroplast genome, large single-copy region, small single-copy region, and inverted repeat region. In addition, the chloroplast genome structure of Leontopodium exhibited high consistency and was obviously different from that of Filago and Gamochaeta in some regions, such as matk, trnK (UUU)-rps16, petN-psbM, and trnE (UUC)-rpoB. All the phylogenetic trees indicated that Leontopodium was monophyletic. Except for the subgeneric level, our molecular phylogenetic results were inconsistent with the previous taxonomic system, which was based on morphological characteristics. Nevertheless, we found that the characteristics of the leaf base, stem types, and carpopodium base were phylogenetically correlated and may have potential value in the taxonomic study of Leontopodium. In the phylogenetic trees inferred using complete chloroplast genomes, the subgen. Leontopodium was divided into two clades (Clades 1 and 2), with most species in Clade 1 having herbaceous stems, amplexicaul, or sheathed leaves, and constricted carpopodium; most species in Clade 2 had woody stems, not amplexicaul and sheathed leaves, and not constricted carpopodium.

ObjectivesThe Kaiser scoring system for breast magnetic resonance imaging is a clinical decision-making tool for diagnosing breast lesions. However, the Kaiser score (KS) did not include the evaluation of breast vascularity. Therefore, this study aimed to use KS combined with breast vascular assessment, defined as KS*, and investigate the effectiveness of KS* in differentiating benign from malignant breast lesions.MethodsThis retrospective study included 223 patients with suspicious breast lesions and pathologically verified results. The histopathological diagnostic criteria were according to the fifth edition of the WHO classification of breast tumors. The KS* was obtained after a joint evaluation combining the original KS and breast vasculature assessment. The receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve was used for comparing differences in the diagnostic performance between KS* and KS, and the area under the receiver operating characteristic (AUC) was compared.ResultsThere were 119 (53.4%) benign and 104 (46.6%) malignant lesions in total. The overall sensitivity, specificity, and accuracy of increased ipsilateral breast vascularity were 69.2%, 76.5%, and 73.1%, respectively. The overall sensitivity, specificity, and accuracy of AVS were 82.7%, 76.5%, and 79.4%, respectively. For all lesions included the AUC of KS* was greater than that of KS (0.877 vs. 0.858, P = 0.016). The largest difference in AUC was observed in the non-mass subgroup (0.793 vs. 0.725, P = 0.029).ConclusionIpsilaterally increased breast vascularity and a positive AVS sign were significantly associated with malignancy. KS combined with breast vascular assessment can effectively improve the diagnostic ability of KS for breast lesions, especially for non-mass lesions.

Our previous study showed 1-Nitropyrene (1-NP) exposure disrupted testicular testosterone synthesis in mouse, but the exact mechanism needs further investigation. The present research found 4-phenylbutyric acid (4-PBA), an endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress inhibitor, recovered 1-NP-induced ER stress and testosterone synthases reduction in TM3 cells. GSK2606414, a protein kinase-like ER kinase (PERK) kinase inhibitor, attenuated 1-NP-induced PERK-eukaryotic translation initiation factor 2α (eIF2α) signaling activation and downregulation of steroidogenic proteins in TM3 cells. Both 4-PBA and GSK2606414 attenuated 1-NP-induced steroidogenesis disruption in TM3 cells. Further studies used N-Acetyl-L-cysteine (NAC) as a classical antioxidant to explore whether oxidative stress-activated ER stress mediated 1-NP-induced testosterone synthases reduction and steroidogenesis disruption in TM3 cells and mouse testes. The results showed NAC pretreatment mitigated oxidative stress, and subsequently attenuated ER stress, particularly PERK-eIF2α signaling activation, and downregulation of testosterone synthases in 1-NP-treated TM3 cells. More importantly, NAC extenuated 1-NP-induced testosterone synthesis in vitro and in vivo. The current work indicated that oxidative stress-caused ER stress, particularly PERK-eIF2α pathway activation, mediates 1-NP-downregulated steroidogenic proteins and steroidogenesis disruption in TM3 cells and mouse testes. Significantly, the current study provides a theoretical basis and demonstrates the experimental evidence for the potential application of antioxidant, such as NAC, in public health prevention, particularly in 1-NP-induced endocrine disorder.

Abstract The discovery of topological Hall effect (THE) has important implications for next‐generation high‐density nonvolatile memories, energy‐efficient nanoelectronics, and spintronic devices. Both real‐space topological spin configurations and two anomalous Hall effects (AHE) with opposite polarity due to two magnetic phases have been proposed for THE‐like feature in SrRuO3 (SRO) films. In this work, SRO thin films with and without THE‐like features are systematically Investigated to decipher the origin of the THE feature. Magnetic measurement reveals the coexistence of two magnetic phases of different coercivity (Hc) in both the films, but the hump feature cannot be explained by the two channel AHE model based on these two magnetic phases. In fact, the AHE is mainly governed by the magnetic phase with higher Hc. A diffusive Berry phase transition model is proposed to explain the THE feature. The coexistence of two Berry phases with opposite signs over a narrow temperature range in the high Hc magnetic phase can explain the THE like feature. Such a coexistence of two Berry phases is due to the strong local structural tilt and microstructure variation in the thinner films. This work provides an insight between structure/micro structure and THE like features in SRO epitaxial thin films.

Kruppel-like factors (KLFs) are a family of zinc finger transcription factors that have been found to play an essential role in the development of various human tissues, including epithelial, teeth, and nerves. In addition to regulating normal physiological processes, KLFs have been implicated in promoting the onset of several cancers, such as gastric cancer, lung cancer, breast cancer, liver cancer, and colon cancer. To inhibit cancer progression, various existing medicines have been used to modulate the expression of KLFs, and anti-microRNA treatments have also emerged as a potential strategy for many cancers. Investigating the possibility of targeting KLFs in cancer therapy is urgently needed, as the roles of KLFs in cancer have not received enough attention in recent years. This review summarizes the factors that regulate KLF expression and function at both the transcriptional and posttranscriptional levels, which could aid in understanding the mechanisms of KLFs in cancer progression. We hope that this review will contribute to the development of more effective anti-cancer medicines targeting KLFs in the future.

ABSTRACT: The aim of this study was to explore the effects of dietary fermented feed addition on growth performance, immune organ indices, serum biochemical parameters, cecal odorous compound production, and the bacterial community in broilers. A total of 480 broiler chicks (1-day-old) were randomly assigned to 6 groups, including a basal diet (control group), a basal diet supplemented with 10, 15, 20, and 25% dried fermented feed, and 10% wet fermented feed. Each group contained 8 replicates of 10 chicks each. The results showed that fermentation increased (P < 0.05) the total acid level and the number of Lactobacillus, Yeast, and Bacillus. The 15% dried fermented feed group had an increased (P < 0.05) body weight (BW) than the control, while the 25% dried fermented feed group had the lowest (P < 0.05) BW on 42 d. Compared to the control group, the feed intake (FI) was increased (P < 0.05) in the 10, 15% dried and 10% wet fermented feed groups from 22 to 42 d and from 1 to 42 d. No significant difference (P > 0.05) was observed in feed conversion ratio (FCR) among all groups. Supplementation with fermented feed increased (P < 0.05) the bursa of Fabricius index but not (P > 0.05) the thymus and spleen indices. Compared with the control, the broilers fed fermented feed had increased (P < 0.05) serum total protein, albumin, globulin, IgA, IgG, IgM, lysozyme, complement 3, and complement 4 levels. The cecal concentrations of acetic acid, propionic acid, butyric acid, and lactic acid were increased and the pH values were decreased in the fermented feed groups (P < 0.05). Among the groups, the 15% dried fermented feed group showed the lowest concentrations of skatole and indole in the cecum (P < 0.05). The composition of the cecal microbiota was characterized, in which an increased abundance of Ruminococcaceae, Lactobacillaceae, and unclassified Clostridiales and a decreased abundance of Rikenellaceae, Lachnospiraceae, and Bacteroidaceae were found in the fermented feed groups. Taken together, dietary fermented feed supplementation can improve growth performance, immune organ development, and capacity and decrease cecal odorous compound production, which may be related to the regulation of microbial composition.

The Sustainable Sites Initiative (SITES) is a comprehensive evaluation system for sustainable landscape, which has been promoted successfully and widely recognized in the landscape architecture industry. However, the existing research lacks attention to the applicability of SITES to urban green space construction projects in China. Therefore, exploring the application of the SITES evaluation system in the context of Chinese urban green space development is of great importance. Building upon theoretical research on sustainable landscapes, this study focuses on urban green space projects as the research carrier, with SITES as the subject of investigation. Utilizing the case study method, a thorough description and analysis of Xuhui Runway Park, a representative case officially certified by SITES in China, is provided. Across four stages—project initiation and planning, scheme design, construction, and operation—this study discusses the approaches employed in Chinese urban green space projects to meet the requirements of the SITES evaluation system. By evaluating the applicability of SITES to Chinese urban green space projects, identifying limitations in system promotion, and offering references for sustainable design practices, this study advances the application and promotion of SITES in China and contributes to the sustainable development of the landscape architecture industry.

Hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) is a vital step in water electrolysis toward H2 production. However, conventional nanocatalysts lack uniform size, composition, structure, and a homogeneous chemical coordination environment, causing the retrieval of an unambiguous structure–performance relationship to be extremely challenging. Owing to its ultra-small size, definitive composition, well-defined structure, and uniform chemical environment at the atomic level, atomically precise Au nanoclusters can serve as a model catalyst to improve understanding of the relationship between the structure and its catalytic properties. First, this review describes the fundamental mechanism and significance of HER and highlights the unique advantages of employing Au nanoclusters as a model catalyst. Then, the recent progress involving the promotion and catalysis of HER by Au and Au-alloy nanoclusters is discussed, with a focus on elaborating the structure–performance relationship. The key factors affecting the catalytic performance, including but not limited to the electronic interaction, interfacial effect, size effect, charge state, ligand effect, metal core composition, single-atom doping, and geometric configuration effect, are analyzed with explicit examples. Finally, the current critical challenges involved in this process and future perspectives are discussed. We hope that this review can shed light on the design of efficient and stable coinage metal-nanocluster-based catalysts toward electrochemical H2 production and beyond.

Artocarpus altilis (Parkinson ex F.A. Zorn) Fosberg is native to the Pacific Islands, India, and the Philippines. It is also cultivated in Taiwan and Hainan. The complete plastome of the species was assembled and annotated in this study. The circular genome was 160,184 bp in size, presenting a typical quadripartite structure including two inverted repeats (IRs) of 25,734 bp, a large single-copy (LSC) of 88,791 bp, and a small single-copy (SSC) of 19,925 bp. The genome contained 132 genes, including 87 protein-coding genes, 37 tRNA genes, and eight rRNA genes. The total G/C content of complete plastome was 36.0%, with the corresponding values of the LSC, SSC, and IR being 33.7%, 28.8%, and 42.7%, respectively. The complete plastome sequence of A. altilis (Parkinson ex F.A. Zorn) Fosberg will make contributions to the conservation genetics of this species as well as to phylogenetic studies of Moraceae.

Objective The objective of this study was to investigate the in vitro fermentation profiles of different soybean oligosaccharides (SBOs) and their effects on skatole production and cecal microbiota of broilers. Methods Five SBOs with varying main component contents were fermented using an in vitro batch incubation inoculated with broiler cecal microbiota. This paper investigates the response of a maglev structure to three under-crossing tunnels of the Shanghai Metro Line 13. The minimal distance between the tunnels and pile groups of the maglev structure is only 1.5 m, thus the deformations of the maglev structure are strictly controlled for the serviceability of the operating maglev trains. The displacements of maglev piers and ground settlements during different tunnelling stages are monitored with an automatic measuring system. Based on the observed data, the ground settlement trough and displacements of maglev piers caused by the three shield tunnelling procedures are analyzed and discussed. The maximal ground settlement after the completion of the three tunnelling procedures is −43 mm. To operate the existing maglev safely, practical construction control methods are applied, including synchronous grouting, adjustment of the shield status, shield-advancing speed control, and stabilisation of the soil chamber pressure. With these countermeasures, the tunnel-induced deformations of maglev piers are well below the predefined thresholds. All piers heave under the strict deformation criterion of 2.0 mm. The crossing project is finally completed without interruptions of the maglev operations by monitoring the progress. The presented project is a valuable example for the evaluation of shield tunnelling effects on the adjacent maglev structures and establishes criteria for similar projects in the future.

Abstract SARS-CoV-2, the culprit pathogen of COVID-19, elicits prominent immune responses and cytokine storms. Intracellular Cl− is a crucial regulator of host defense, whereas the role of Cl− signaling pathway in modulating pulmonary inflammation associated with SARS-CoV-2 infection remains unclear. By using human respiratory epithelial cell lines, primary cultured human airway epithelial cells, and murine models of viral structural protein stimulation and SARS-CoV-2 direct challenge, we demonstrated that SARS-CoV-2 nucleocapsid (N) protein could interact with Smad3, which downregulated cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator (CFTR) expression via microRNA-145. The intracellular Cl− concentration ([Cl−]i) was raised, resulting in phosphorylation of serum glucocorticoid regulated kinase 1 (SGK1) and robust inflammatory responses. Inhibition or knockout of SGK1 abrogated the N protein-elicited airway inflammation. Moreover, N protein promoted a sustained elevation of [Cl−]i by depleting intracellular cAMP via upregulation of phosphodiesterase 4 (PDE4). Rolipram, a selective PDE4 inhibitor, countered airway inflammation by reducing [Cl−]i. Our findings suggested that Cl− acted as the crucial pathological second messenger mediating the inflammatory responses after SARS-CoV-2 infection. Targeting the Cl− signaling pathway might be a novel therapeutic strategy for COVID-19.

Abstract Metronidazole in aqueous solution is sensitive to light and UV irradiation, leading to the formation of N-(2-hydroxyethyl)-5-methyl-l,2,4-oxadiazole-3-carboxamide. This is revealed here by liquid chromatography with tandem photo diode array detection and mass spectrometry (LC-PDA-MS) and further verified by comparison with the corresponding reference substance and proton nuclear magnetic resonance (1H-NMR). However, in current compendial tests for related substances/organic impurities of metronidazole, the above photolytic degradant could not be detected. Thus, when photodegradation of metronidazole occurs, it could not be demonstrated. In our study, an improved LC method was developed and validated, which includes a detection at a wavelength of 230 nm and optimization of mobile phase composition thereby a better separation was obtained.

Abstract Objective Nutritional deficiency soon after birth is a risk factor of chronic lung disease (bronchopulmonary dysplasia, BPD). Afflicted infants are further prone to inadequate growth during hospitalization (extrauterine growth restriction, EUGR). This multi-center retrospective study investigated risk factors of EUGR, specifically in very preterm infants with BPD. Method Data of infants with BPD who were born less than 32 weeks gestation (n = 1010) were collected from 7 regions of China. All infants were non-small for gestational age at birth. Infants were characterized as EUGR or non-EUGR at 36 weeks gestation or discharge, or stratified by gestational age or birthweight. Logistic regression analysis was applied. Abstract Deep simulations have gained widespread attention owing to their excellent acceleration performances. However, these methods cannot provide effective collision detection and response strategies. We propose a deep interactive physical simulation framework that can effectively address tool-object collisions. The framework can predict the dynamic information by considering the collision state. In particular, the graph neural network is chosen as the base model, and a collision-aware recursive regression module is introduced to update the network parameters recursively using interpenetration distances calculated from the vertex-face and edge-edge tests. Additionally, a novel self-supervised collision term is introduced to provide a more compact collision response. This study extensively evaluates the proposed method and shows that it effectively reduces interpenetration artifacts while ensuring high simulation efficiency.

Non-coding RNAs are crucial for cancer progression, among which miR-34c-3p has been demonstrated to be a tumor suppressor in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). In this study, we attempt to identify flavonoids that can up-regulate miR-34c-3p expression, evaluate the anticancer activity of the flavonoids and explore its underlying mechanism in NSCLC cells. Six flavonoids were screened by RT-qPCR and we found that jaceosidin significantly increased miR-34c-3p expression in A549 cells. We found that jaceosidin inhibited the proliferation, migration and invasion of A549 and H1975 cells in a dose-relevant manner, indicated by cell counting kit (CCK-8) assay, wound healing assay, transwell assay and EdU assay, we observed that jaceosidin inhibited the proliferation, migration and invasion of A549 and H1975 cells in a dose-relevant manner. Further research suggested that miR-34c-3p bound to the transcriptome of integrin α2β1 and then inhibited its expression, leading to the inhibitory effect on the migration and invasion of NSCLC. Our study sheds some light on anti-tumor of jaceosidin and provides a potential lead compound for NSCLC therapy.

BackgroundThe shaping of an accurate and stable microcatheter plays a vital role in the successful embolization of intracranial aneurysms. Our study aimed to investigate the application and the role of AneuShape™ software in microcatheter shaping for intracranial aneurysm embolization.MethodsFrom January 2021 to June 2022, 105 patients with single unruptured intracranial aneurysms were retrospectively analyzed with or without AneuShape™ software to assist in microcatheter shaping. The rates of microcatheter accessibility, accurate positioning, and stability for shaping were analyzed. During the operation, fluoroscopy duration, radiation dose, immediate postoperative angiography, and procedure-related complications were evaluated.ResultsCompared to the manual group, aneurysm-coiling procedures involving the AneuShape™ software exhibited superior results. In this study, the temporal and spatial expression profiles of Tet1, Tet2 and Tet3 were assayed with RT-qPCR techniques in Chinese perch, Siniperca chuatsi. The obtained data showed that three Tet family genes were differentially expressed at different development stages. Tet1 was expressed low at blastula stage, but highly expressed at gastrula stage, then remained low until hatching. The expressions of Tet2 and Tet3 were significantly increased at late gastrula and kept high expression before hatching stage. At the spatial level, the Tet1 expression was highest in gill tissue, moderate level in brain and slow muscle. Tet2 was similar to that of Tet1 except that it was expressed at a lower level in slow muscle, and Tet3 exhibited a higher expression level in gill and brain, a moderate level in fast muscle. Cosinor analysis turned out that the expression of Tet1 and Tet2 displayed a significant daily rhythm in fast muscle, but Tet3 did not show daily rhythmicity. Inhibiting the activity of Tet1/2 proteins by injecting Bobcat339 significantly reduced the expression of MyoD and MRF4, but not MyoG and Myf5, by which leads to the increase of the number of satellite cells and proliferating myoblasts. Together, the results suggest that Tet1/2 may target to MyoD and MRF4 resulted in DNA demethylation and promoting their expression, thus stimulating myoblast differentiation.

BackgroundTime-restricted feeding (TRF) has become a popular weight loss method in recent years. It is widely used in the nutritional treatment of normal obese people and obese people with chronic diseases such as diabetes mellitus and hypertension, and has shown many benefits. However, most TRF studies have excluded chronic kidney disease (CKD) patients, resulting in a lack of sufficient evidence-based practice for the efficacy and safety of TRF therapy for CKD. Therefore, we explore the efficacy and safety of TRF in overweight and obese patients with moderate-to-severe stage CKD through this pilot study, and observe patient compliance to assess the feasibility of the therapy.MethodsThis is a prospective, non-randomized controlled short-term clinical trial. We recruited overweight and obese patients with CKD stages 3-4 from an outpatient clinic and assigned them to either a TRF group or a control diet (CD) group according to their preferences. Changes in renal function, other biochemical data, anthropometric parameters, gut microbiota, and adverse events were measured before the intervention and after 12 weeks.ResultsThe change in estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) before and after intervention in the TRF group (Δ = 3.1 ± 5.3 ml/min/1.73m2) showed significant improvement compared with the CD group (Δ = -0.8 ± 4.4 ml/min/1.73m2). Furthermore, the TRF group had a significant decrease in uric acid (Δ = -70.8 ± 124.2 μmol/L), but an increase in total protein (Δ = 1.7 ± 2.5 g/L), while the changes were inconsistent for inflammatory factors. In addition, the TRF group showed a significant decrease in body weight (Δ = -2.8 ± 2.9 kg) compared to the CD group, and body composition indicated the same decrease in body fat mass, fat free mass and body water. Additionally, TRF shifted the gut microbiota in a positive direction.ConclusionPreliminary studies suggest that overweight and obese patients with moderate-to-severe CKD with weight loss needs, and who were under strict medical supervision by healthcare professionals, performed TRF with good compliance. They did so without apparent adverse events, and showed efficacy in protecting renal function. These results may be due to changes in body composition and alterations in gut microbiota.
