The rapidly expanding market for regenerative medicines and cell therapies highlights the need to advance the understanding of cellular metabolisms and improve the prediction of cultivation production process for human induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs). In this paper, a metabolic kinetic model was developed to characterize underlying mechanisms of iPSC culture process, which can predict cell response to environmental perturbation and support process control. This model focuses on the central carbon metabolic network, including glycolysis, pentose phosphate pathway (PPP), tricarboxylic acid (TCA) cycle, and amino acid metabolism, which plays a crucial role to support iPSC proliferation. Heterogeneous measures of extracellular metabolites and multiple isotopic tracers collected under multiple conditions were used to learn metabolic regulatory mechanisms. Systematic cross-validation confirmed the model's performance in terms of providing reliable predictions on cellular metabolism and culture process dynamics under various culture conditions. The determination of the absolute and relative position of a spacecraft is critical for its operation, observations, data analysis, scientific studies, as well as deep space exploration in general. A spacecraft that can determine its own absolute position autonomously may perform more than that must rely on transmission solutions. In this work, we report an absolute navigation accuracy of $\sim$ 20 km using 16-day Crab pulsar data observed with $Fermi$ Gamma ray Burst Monitor (GBM). In addition, we propose a new method with the inverse process of the triangulation for joint navigation using repeated bursts like that from the magnetar SGR J1935+2154 observed by the Gravitational wave high-energy Electromagnetic Counterpart All-sky Monitor (GECAM) and GBM., Comment: accepted for publication in ApJS

Spectral lag of the low-energy photons with respect to the high-energy ones is a common astrophysical phenomenon (such as Gamma-ray bursts and the Crab pulsar) and may serve as a key probe to the underlying radiation mechanism. However, spectral lag in keV range of the magnetar bursts has not been systematically studied yet. In this work, we perform a detailed spectral lag analysis with the Li-CCF method for SGR J1935+2154 bursts observed by {\it Insight}-HXMT, GECAM and Fermi/GBM from July 2014 to Jan 2022. We discover that the spectral lags of about 61\% (non-zero significance >1$\sigma$) bursts from SGR J1935+2154 are linearly dependent on the photon energy ($E$) with $t_{\rm lag}(E)=\alpha (E/{\rm keV})+C$, which may be explained by a linear change of the temperature of the blackbody-emitting plasma with time. The distribution of the slope ($\alpha$) approximately follows a Gaussian function with mean and standard deviation of 0.02 ms/keV (i.e. high-energy photons arrive earlier) and 0.02 ms/keV, respectively. We also find that the distribution can be well fitted with three Gaussians with mean values of $\sim$ -0.009, 0.013 and 0.039 ms/keV, which may correspond to different origins of the bursts. Early optical observations of gamma-ray bursts can significantly contribute to the study of the central engine and physical processes therein. However, of the thousands observed so far, still only a few have data at optical wavelengths in the first minutes after the onset of the prompt emission. Here we report on GRB\,190106A, whose afterglow was observed in optical bands just 36 s after the {\em Swift}/BAT trigger, i.e., during the prompt emission phase. The early optical afterglow exhibits a bimodal structure followed by a normal decay, with a faster decay after $\sim \rm T_{0}+$1 day. We present optical photometric and spectroscopic observations of GRB\,190106A. We derive the redshift via metal absorption lines from Xinglong 2.16-m/BFOSC spectroscopic observations. From the BFOSC spectrum, we measure $z= 1.861\pm0.002$. The double-peak optical light curve is a significant feature predicted by the reverse-forward external shock model. The shallow decay followed by a normal decay in both the X-ray and optical light curves is well explained with the standard forward-shock model with late-time energy injection. Therefore, GRB\,190106A offers a case study for GRBs emission from both reverse and forward shocks., Comment: 17 pages, 9 figures. Accepted for publication in ApJ

We construct the first markerless deformable interaction dataset recording interactive motions of the hands and deformable objects, called HMDO (Hand Manipulation with Deformable Objects). With our built multi-view capture system, it captures the deformable interactions with multiple perspectives, various object shapes, and diverse interactive forms. Our motivation is the current lack of hand and deformable object interaction datasets, as 3D hand and deformable object reconstruction is challenging. Mainly due to mutual occlusion, the interaction area is difficult to observe, the visual features between the hand and the object are entangled, and the reconstruction of the interaction area deformation is difficult. To tackle this challenge, we propose a method to annotate our captured data. Our key idea is to collaborate with estimated hand features to guide the object global pose estimation, and then optimize the deformation process of the object by analyzing the relationship between the hand and the object. Through comprehensive evaluation, the proposed method can reconstruct interactive motions of hands and deformable objects with high quality. HMDO currently consists of 21600 frames over 12 sequences. In the future, this dataset could boost the research of learning-based reconstruction of deformable interaction scenes.

We study efficient quantum certification algorithms for unitary quantum process using no ancilla. Previous study showed that one can distinguish whether an unknown unitary $U$ is equal to or $\varepsilon$-far from a known or unknown unitary $V$ in fixed dimension with $O(\varepsilon^{-2})$ uses of the unitary, in which the Choi state is used and thus a high dimensional ancilla system is always needed. We demonstrate a methodology for computationally investigating the mechanical response of a pure molten lead surface system to the lateral mechanical cyclic loads and try to answer the question: how dose the dynamically driven liquid surface system follow the classical physics of the elastic-driven oscillation? The steady-state oscillation of the dynamic surface tension under cyclic load, including the excitation of high frequency vibration mode at different driving frequencies and amplitudes, was compared with the classical theory of single-body driven damped oscillator. Under the highest studied frequency (50 GHz) and amplitude (5%) of the load, the increase of the (mean value) dynamic surface tension could reach ~5%. The peak and trough values of the instantaneous dynamic surface tension could reach (up to) 40% increase and (up to) 20% decrease compared to the equilibrium surface tension, respectively. The extracted generalized natural frequencies and the generalized damping constants seem to be intimately related to the intrinsic timescales of the atomic temporal-spatial correlation functions of the liquids both in the bulk region and in the outermost surface layers. These insights uncovered could be helpful for quantitative manipulation of the liquid surface tension using ultrafast shockwaves or laser pulses.

Entanglement properties of random multipartite quantum states which are invariant under global SU($d$) action are investigated. The random states live in the tensor power of an irreducible representation of SU($d$). We calculate and analyze the expectation and fluctuation of the second-order R\'enyi entanglement measure of the random invariant and near-invariant states in high dimension, and reveal the phenomenon of concentration of measure the random states exhibit. We show that with high probability a random SU($d$)-invariant state is close to being maximally entangled with respect to any bipartite cut as the dimension of individual system goes to infinity. We also show that this generic entanglement property of random SU(2)-invariant state is robust to arbitrarily finite disturbation., Comment: 23 pages

Image watermarking is a technique for hiding information into images that can withstand distortions while requiring the encoded image to be perceptually identical to the original image. Recent work based on deep neural networks (DNN) has achieved impressive progression in digital watermarking. Higher robustness under various distortions is the eternal pursuit of digital image watermarking approaches. In this paper, we propose DBMARK, a novel end-to-end digital image watermarking framework to deep boost the robustness of DNN-based image watermarking. The key novelty is the synergy of invertible neural networks (INN) and effective watermark features generation. The framework generates watermark features with redundancy and error correction ability through the effective neural network based message processor, synergized with the powerful information embedding and extraction abilities of INN to achieve higher robustness and invisibility. The powerful learning ability of neural networks enables the message processor to adapt to various distortions. In addition, we propose to embed the watermark information in the discrete wavelet transform (DWT) domain and design low-low (LL) sub-band loss to enhance invisibility. Extensive experiment results demonstrate the superiority of the proposed framework compared with the state-of-the-art ones under various distortions such as dropout, cropout, crop, Gaussian filter, and JPEG compression.

The total and differential cross sections of elastic proton-proton and proton-antiproton scattering are studied in a holographic QCD model, considering the Pomeron and Reggeon exchanges in the Regge regime. In our model setup, the Pomeron and Reggeon exchanges are described by the Reggeized spin-2 glueball and vector meson propagators, respectively. How those contributions change with the energy is explicitly shown, focusing on the contribution ratios. The adjustable parameters included in the model are determined with the experimental data, and it is presented that the resulting total and differential cross sections are consistent with the data in a wide kinematic region., Comment: 22 pages, 8 figures, typos corrected

The precursors of short and long Gamma Ray Bursts (SGRBs and LGRBs) can serve as probes of their progenitors, as well as shedding light on the physical processes of mergers or core-collapse supernovae. Some models predict the possible existence of Quasi-Periodically Oscillations (QPO) in the precursors of SGRBs. Although many previous studies have performed QPO search in the main emission of SGRBs and LGRBs, so far there was no systematic QPO search in their precursors. In this work, we perform a detailed QPO search in the precursors of SGRBs and LGRBs detected by Fermi/GBM from 2008 to 2019 using the power density spectrum (PDS) in frequency domain and Gaussian processes (GP) in time domain. We do not find any convinced QPO signal with significance above 3 $\sigma$, possibly due to the low fluxes of precursors. Finally, the PDS continuum properties of both the precursors and main emissions are also studied for the first time, and no significant difference is found in the distributions of the PDS slope for precursors and main emissions in both SGRBs and LGRBs., Comment: submitted

For reinforcement learning on complex stochastic systems where many factors dynamically impact the output trajectories, it is desirable to effectively leverage the information from historical samples collected in previous iterations to accelerate policy optimization. Classical experience replay allows agents to remember by reusing historical observations. However, the uniform reuse strategy that treats all observations equally overlooks the relative importance of different samples. To overcome this limitation, we propose a general variance reduction based experience replay (VRER) framework that can selectively reuse the most relevant samples to improve policy gradient estimation. This selective mechanism can adaptively put more weight on past samples that are more likely to be generated by the current target distribution. Rhodium-containing compounds offer a fertile playground to explore novel materials with superconductivity and other fantastic electronic correlation effects. A new ternary rhodium-antimonide La$_2$Rh$_{3+\delta}$Sb$_4$ ($\delta\approx 1/8$) has been synthesized by a Bi-flux method. It crystallizes in the orthorhombic Pr$_2$Ir$_3$Sb$_4$-like structure, with the space group $Pnma$ (No. 62). The crystalline structure appears as stacking the two dimensional RhSb$_4$- and RhSb$_5$-polyhedra networks along $\mathbf{b}$ axis, and the La atoms embed in the cavities of these networks. Band structure calculations confirm it as a multi-band metal with a van-Hove singularity like feature at the Fermi level, whose density of states are mainly of Rh-4$d$ and Sb-5$p$ characters. The calculations also imply that the redundant Rh acts as charge dopant. Superconductivity is observed in this material with onset transition at $T_c^{on}\approx$ 0.8 K. Ultra-low temperature magnetic susceptibility and specific heat measurements suggest that it is an s-wave type-II superconductor. Our work may also imply that the broad $Ln_2$$Tm_{3+\delta}$Sb$_4$ ($Ln$=Rare earth, $Tm$=Rh, Ir...) family may host new material bases where new superconductors, quantum magnetism and other electronic correlation effects could be found., Comment: 15+1 pages, 7+1 figures, 2+1 tables

The increasingly pressing demand of novel drugs (e.g., gene therapies for personalized cancer care, ever evolving vaccines) with unprecedented levels of personalization, has put a remarkable pressure on the traditionally long time required by the pharma R&D and manufacturing to go from design to production of new products. The revolution has already brought important changes in the technologies used within the industry. In fact, practitioners are increasingly moving away from the classical paradigm of large-scale batch production to continuous biomanufacturing with flexible and modular design, which is further supported by the recent technology advance in single-use equipment. In contrast to long design processes, low product variability (one-fits-all), and highly rigid systems, modern pharma players are answering the question: can we bring design and process control up to the speed that novel production technologies give us to quickly set up a flexible production run? In this tutorial, we present key challenges and potential solutions from the world of operations research that can support answering such question. Built on our previous study on green simulation assisted policy gradient (GS-PG) focusing on trajectory-based reuse, in this paper, we consider infinite-horizon Markov Decision Processes and create a new importance sampling based policy gradient optimization approach to support dynamic decision making. The existing GS-PG method was designed to learn from complete episodes or process trajectories, which limits its applicability to low-data situations and flexible online process control. To overcome this limitation, the proposed approach can selectively reuse the most related partial trajectories, i.e., the reuse unit is based on per-step or per-decision historical observations. In specific, we create a mixture likelihood ratio (MLR) based policy gradient optimization that can leverage the information from historical state-action transitions generated under different behavioral policies. The proposed variance reduction experience replay (VRER) approach can intelligently select and reuse most relevant transition observations, improve the policy gradient estimation, and accelerate the learning of optimal policy. Driven by the critical needs of biomanufacturing 4.0, we introduce a probabilistic knowledge graph hybrid model characterizing the risk- and science-based understanding of bioprocess mechanisms. It can faithfully capture the important properties, including nonlinear reactions, partially observed state, and nonstationary dynamics. Given very limited real process observations, we derive a posterior distribution quantifying model estimation uncertainty. To avoid the evaluation of intractable likelihoods, Approximate Bayesian Computation sampling with Sequential Monte Carlo (ABC-SMC) is utilized to approximate the posterior distribution. Under high stochastic and model uncertainties, it is computationally expensive to match output trajectories. Therefore, we create a linear Gaussian dynamic Bayesian network (LG-DBN) auxiliary likelihood-based ABC-SMC approach. Through matching the summary statistics driven through LG-DBN likelihood that can capture critical interactions and variations, the proposed algorithm can accelerate hybrid model inference, support process monitoring, and facilitate mechanism learning and robust control., Comment: 11 pages, 2 figures

Physical contact provides additional constraints for hand-object state reconstruction as well as a basis for further understanding of interaction affordances. Estimating these severely occluded regions from monocular images presents a considerable challenge. Existing methods optimize the hand-object contact driven by distance threshold or prior from contact-labeled datasets. However, due to the number of subjects and objects involved in these indoor datasets being limited, the learned contact patterns could not be generalized easily. Our key idea is to reconstruct the contact pattern directly from monocular images, and then utilize the physical stability criterion in the simulation to optimize it. This criterion is defined by the resultant forces and contact distribution computed by the physics engine.Compared to existing solutions, our framework can be adapted to more personalized hands and diverse object shapes. Furthermore, an interaction dataset with extra physical attributes is created to verify the sim-to-real consistency of our methods. Video super-resolution is currently one of the most active research topics in computer vision as it plays an important role in many visual applications. Generally, video super-resolution contains a significant component, i.e., motion compensation, which is used to estimate the displacement between successive video frames for temporal alignment. Optical flow, which can supply dense and sub-pixel motion between consecutive frames, is among the most common ways for this task. To obtain a good understanding of the effect that optical flow acts in video super-resolution, in this work, we conduct a comprehensive review on this subject for the first time. This investigation covers the following major topics: the function of super-resolution (i.e., why we require super-resolution); the concept of video super-resolution (i.e., what is video super-resolution); the description of evaluation metrics (i.e., how (video) superresolution performs); the introduction of optical flow based video super-resolution; the investigation of using optical flow to capture temporal dependency for video super-resolution. Prominently, we give an in-depth study of the deep learning based video super-resolution method, where some representative algorithms are analyzed and compared. Additionally, we highlight some promising research directions and open issues that should be further addressed.

Motivated by critical challenges and needs from biopharmaceuticals manufacturing, we propose a general metamodel-assisted stochastic simulation uncertainty analysis framework to accelerate the development of a simulation model with modular design for flexible production processes. There are often very limited process observations. Thus, there exist both simulation and model uncertainties in the system performance estimates. In biopharmaceutical manufacturing, model uncertainty often dominates. The proposed framework can produce a confidence interval that accounts for simulation and model uncertainties by using a metamodel-assisted bootstrapping approach. Furthermore, a variance decomposition is utilized to estimate the relative contributions from each source of model uncertainty, as well as simulation uncertainty. This information can be used to improve the system mean performance estimation. The total and differential cross sections of high energy pion-proton and pion-pion scattering are investigated in a holographic QCD model, focusing on the Regge regime in which the Pomeron exchange gives the dominant contribution to those cross sections. The Pomeron is described by the Reggeized spin-2 particle propagator, and the hadron-Pomeron couplings are given by gravitational form factors of the hadrons, which are obtained from the bottom-up AdS/QCD models. Since the parameters, which characterize the Pomeron trajectory, have been determined in a preceding study of the proton-proton scattering, the pion-proton cross sections can be expressed with a single adjustable parameter. Once this parameter is determined by the experimental data of the pion-proton total cross section, its differential cross section and the pion-pion cross sections can be calculated without any additional parameter. Although the currently available data are limited, it is found that our calculation is consistent with those.
