Abstract Essential oils (EOs) and plant extracts have demonstrated inhibitory activity against a wide range of pathogenic bacteria. In this study, the chemical composition of manuka, kanuka, peppermint, thyme, lavender, and feijoa leaf and peel EOs and feijoa peel and leaf extracts were analyzed, and their antimicrobial activity against Escherichia coli, Salmonella enterica Typhimurium, Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus cereus, and Listeria monocytogenes were determined. The results showed that the major compounds varied among different EOs and extracts, with menthol in peppermint EO, thymol and carvacrol in thyme EO, linalool in lavender EO, β‐caryophyllene in feijoa EO, and flavones in feijoa extract being the most prevalent. The study found that while EOs/extracts had antimicrobial activity alone, no individual EO/extract was highly effective against all tested species. Therefore, their combinations were tested to identify those that could broaden the spectrum of activity and act synergistically. The checkerboard method was applied to assess the possible synergism between the paired combinations of EOs/extract. The peppermint/thyme, peppermint/lavender, and peppermint/feijoa peel extract combinations exhibited a synergistic effect against E. coli and L. monocytogenes, with the peppermint/thyme and peppermint/feijoa peel extract combinations being the most effective against all five pathogens. Time‐to‐kill kinetics assays demonstrated that peppermint/thyme and peppermint/feijoa peel extract combinations achieved complete eradication of E. coli within 10–30 min and L. monocytogenes within 4–6 h. This study provides a promising approach to developing a natural alternative for food preservation using synergistic combinations of EOs/extracts, which could potentially reduce the required dosage and broaden their application in food products as natural preservatives.

Abstract REM sleep behavior disorder (RBD) symptoms in Parkinson’s disease (PD) suggest both a clinically and pathologically malignant subtype. However, whether RBD symptoms are associated with alterations in the organization of whole-brain intrinsic functional networks in PD, especially at early disease stages, remains unclear. Here we use resting-state functional MRI, coupled with graph-theoretical approaches and network-based statistics analyses, and validated with large-scale network analyses, to characterize functional brain networks and their relationship with clinical measures in early PD patients with probable RBD (PD+pRBD), early PD patients without probable RBD (PD-pRBD) and healthy controls. Thirty-six PD+pRBD, 57 PD-pRBD and 71 healthy controls were included in the final analyses. The PD+pRBD group demonstrated decreased global efficiency (t = -2.036, P = 0.0432) compared to PD-pRBD, and decreased network efficiency, as well as comprehensively disrupted nodal efficiency and whole-brain networks (all eight networks, but especially in the sensorimotor, default mode and visual networks) compared to healthy controls. The PD-pRBD group showed decreased nodal degree in right ventral frontal cortex and more affected edges in the frontoparietal and ventral attention networks compared to healthy controls. Furthermore, the assortativity coefficient was negatively correlated with Montreal cognitive assessment scores in the PD+pRBD group (r = -0.365, P = 0.026, d = 0.154). The observation of altered whole-brain functional networks and its correlation with cognitive function in PD+pRBD suggest reorganization of the intrinsic functional connectivity to maintain the brain function in the early stage of the disease. Future longitudinal studies following these alterations along disease progression are warranted.

Abstract Objective To evaluate the diagnostic values of serum platelet count (PC), mean platelet volume ratio (MPV), platelet count to mean platelet volume ratio (PVR), platelet to lymphocyte ratio (PLR), platelet to neutrophil ratio (PNR), PC/Albumin-globulin ratio (PC/AGR), and PC/C-reactive protein (PC/ CRP) in the diagnosis of periprosthetic joint infection (PJI). Methods The medical records were retrospectively analyzed of the 158 patients who had undergone hip or knee revisions from January 2018 to May 2022. Of them, 79 cases were diagnosed with PJI and 79 with aseptic loosening (AL). PJI was defined using the Musculoskeletal Infection Society criteria. The plasma levels of CRP, the erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR), PC, MPV, PVR, PLR, PNR, PC/AGR, and PC/CRP in the 2 groups were recorded and analyzed. In addition, tests were performed according to different joint types. The receiver operating characteristic curve was used to calculate the sensitivity and specificity of each indicator. The diagnostic value for each indicator was calculated according to the area under the curve (AUC). An innovative chemometric method was developed to exploit visible and near-infrared (Vis-NIR) spectroscopy to guide food formulation to reach the anticipated and constant quality of final products. First, a total of 671 spectral variables related to the puree quality characteristics were identified by spectral variable selection methods. Second, the concentration profiles from multivariate curve resolution-alternative least squares (MCR-ALS) made it possible to reconstruct the identified spectral variables of formulated purees. Partial least square based on the reconstructed Vis-NIR spectral variables was evidenced to predict the final puree quality, such as a* values (RPD = 3.30), total sugars (RPD = 2.64), titratable acidity (RPD = 2.55) and malic acid (RPD = 2.67), based only on the spectral data of composed puree cultivars. These results open the possibility of controlling puree formulation: a multiparameter optimization of the color and taste of final puree products can be obtained using only the Vis-NIR spectral data of single-cultivar purees.

The metabolite and flavor characteristics of roasted germinated sunflower seeds (RGSF) were evaluated and compared with those of roasted ungerminated sunflower seeds (RUSF) by gas chromatograph-flame ionization detector (GC-FID) and headspace solid phase microextraction combined with gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (HS-SPME-GC-MS). During roasting, α-tocopherol, β-sitosterol, fructose, and glucose content were higher at 125 °C compared to those at 135 and 145 °C in RGSF, and lower reductions of alanine, glycine, phenylalanine, serine, asparagine, and γ-aminobutyric acid (GABA) content at 125 °C in RGSF. Considering their nutritional value, it is suggested that sunflower seeds are roasted at 125 °C. The dominant volatile compounds in RGSF were α-pinene, furfural, pyrazines, 1-octen-3-ol, and 2-methylbutanal. High-temperature heating for long term led to a large accumulation of unpleasant odors like pyridine, hexanal and nonanal, especially in RUSF. To examine the distribution of the individual metabolites and flavor compounds among different roasting conditions. A heatmap diagram combined with agglomerative hierarchical clustering (AHC) analysis and principal component analysis (PCA) showed that most Maillard reaction substitutes (amino acids and reducing sugars), products (2-methylpyrazine 2-ethyl-3,5-dimethyl-pyrazine, and 3-ethyl-2,5-dimethylpyrazine), and Strecker degradation products (3-methylbutanal, 2-methylbutanal, and isobutanal) contributed to separate RGSF from RUSF.

Background About a quarter of the world's population suffers from metabolic syndrome (MetS). In recent years, the prevalence of MetS in China has also increased year by year, posing a serious threat to life and health. Traditional chinese medicine has the advantages of multi-target and multi-link in the treatment of MetS, but there is a lack of high-quality randomized controlled studies and real-world studies in clinical practice. Objective To observe the effects of Gehu Tiaozhi Decoction on waist circumference (WC), body weight, body fat percentage (BFP) and glucose and lipid metabolism in patients with MetS. Methods From June 2021 to November 2022, 84 patients with MetS were prospectively selected from the outpatient department and inpatient department of LongHua Hospital Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine. The subjects were randomly divided into Gehu group (42 cases) and control group (42 cases). The patients in the Gehu group were treated with Gehu Tiaozhi Decoction (Pueraria lobamle radix 6 g, Dendrobium officinale 6 g). The patients were fasted once in the morning and once in the evening, 1 bag each time, taken orally for 8 weeks. The control group was treated with placebo granules. The patients were fasted once in the morning and once in the evening, 1 bag each time, taken orally for 8 weeks. During the intervention, the two groups of patients were given the same health education (including dietary regimen and exercise prescription guidance). After 8 weeks of intervention, the WC, body weight, BMI, BFP, triglyceride (TG), total cholesterol (TC), high density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C), low density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) and fasting blood glucose (FBG) were compared between the two groups. Results Finally, 41 patients in the Gehu group and 41 patients in the control group completed the 8-week intervention study. Abstract Objective This study aimed to explore the characteristics of carbapenem-resistant Enterobacterales (CRE) patients in the intensive care unit (ICU) in different regions of Henan Province to provide evidence for the targeted prevention and treatment of CRE. Methods This was a cross-sectional study. CRE screening was conducted in the ICUs of 78 hospitals in Henan Province, China, on March 10, 2021. The patients were divided into provincial capital hospitals and nonprovincial capital hospitals for comparative analysis. Results This study involved 1009 patients in total, of whom 241 were CRE-positive patients, 92 were in the provincial capital hospital and 149 were in the nonprovincial capital hospital. Provincial capital hospitals had a higher rate of CRE positivity, and there was a significant difference in the rate of CRE positivity between the two groups. Abstract Increased sequencing depth can improve the detection rate of noninvasive prenatal testing (NIPT) for chromosome aneuploidies and copy number variations (CNVs). However, due to the technical limitations of NIPT, false-positives and false-negatives are inevitable. False-positives for aneuploidy and CNVs have been widely reported, but few missed cases have been reported. In this study, we report 3 patients missed by NIPT, which were still missed after increasing the sequencing depth. To verify the detection efficiency of the platform, the results of NIPT in 32,796 patients treated in Yulin Women and Children Health Care Hospital from 2020 to 2022 were retrospectively analyzed. Data on false-negative cases found by postnatal follow-up or amniocentesis were collected, and the sequencing data, pregnancy examination data, and postnatal follow-up results of these missed patients were summarized. Five patients missed by NIPT were found, and they were missed again by retesting or increasing the sequencing depth. Except for hypospadias found in 1 patient, ultrasonography of the other 4 patients showed no obvious abnormalities during the whole pregnancy. Our results suggest that pregnant women should be fully informed of the benefits and limitations of NIPT before undergoing the examination to avoid unnecessary medical disputes.

Male germ cells employ specific metabolic pathways throughout their developmental stages. In a previous study, we discovered heightened expression of pyruvate kinase M (PKM), a pivotal glycolytic enzyme, in spermatogonia and spermatids. To gain deeper insights into PKM's roles in spermatogenesis, sperm function, and male fertility, we engineered a conditional-knockout mouse model (Pkm-vKO mice) to selectively disrupt the Pkm gene within germ cells. Despite maintaining regular testicular histology and sperm morphology, the male Pkm-vKO mice were infertility, characterized by significant impairments in sperm motility and adenosine triphosphate (ATP) generation. In addition, Pkm-null spermatozoa exhibited similar deficits in protein tyrosine phosphorylation linked to capacitation, as well as compromised performance in in vitro fertilization experiments. To conclude, PKM's presence is not obligatory for the entirety of spermatogenesis in male germ cells; however, it emerges as a critical factor influencing sperm motility and overall male fertility.

Objective: It is a common clinical phenomenon that blood infiltrates into the injured tendon caused by sports injuries, accidental injuries, and surgery. However, the role of blood infiltration into the injured tendon has not been investigated. Methods: A blood-induced rat model was established and the impact of blood infiltration on inflammation and HO of the injured tendon was assessed. Cell adhesion, viability, apoptosis, and gene expression were measured to evaluate the effect of blood treatment on tendon stem/progenitor cells (TSPCs). Then RNA-seq was used to assess transcriptomic changes in tendons in a blood infiltration environment. At last, the small molecule drug PI3K inhibitor LY294002 was used for in vivo and in vitro HO treatment. Results: Blood caused acute inflammation in the short term and more severe HO in the long term. Then we found that blood treatment increased cell apoptosis and decreased cell adhesion and tenonic gene expression of TSPCs. Furthermore, blood treatment promoted osteochondrogenic differentiation of TSPCs. Next, we used RNA-seq to find that the PI3K/AKT signaling pathway was activated in blood-treated tendon tissues. By inhibiting PI3K with a small molecule drug LY294002, the expression of osteochondrogenic genes was markedly downregulated while the expression of tenonic genes was significantly upregulated. At last, we also found that LY294002 treatment significantly reduced the tendon HO in the rat blood-induced model. Conclusion: Our findings indicate that the upregulated PI3K/AKT signaling pathway is implicated in the aggravation of tendon HO. Therefore, inhibitors targeting the PI3K/AKT pathway would be a promising approach to treat blood-induced tendon HO.

Abstract Background Newly graduated registered nurses leaving the nursing profession in the early stages of their career have enormous financial and time implications for nursing organizations and affect the quality of nursing care. Objective To identify the factors influencing newly graduated registered nurses’ intention to leave the nursing profession over the past 10 years. Methods The framework developed by Whittemore and Knafl was used to conduct this integrative review. An electronic search was conducted for English articles to identify research studies published between 2011-2022 using the following databases of PubMed, MEDLINE, CINAHL, PsycINFO, and Scopus. Eligible publications were critically reviewed and scored using the Critical Appraisal Skills Program Checklist and the Center for Evidence-Based Management appraisal. Results Twenty-one studies were analyzed. The main factors affecting newly graduated registered nurses’ intention to leave the nursing profession included demographic factors (age, educational level, year of experience, professional title, employment status, health status, shift, hospital location and size), supervisor and peer support, challenges in the workplace, cognitive and affective response to work, work environment (collegial nurse-physician relations, insufficient staffing level, person-work environment fit), gender stereotypes, autonomous motivation, role models, and resilience. Conclusions The factors affecting newly graduated registered nurses’ intention to leave the nursing profession are multifaceted and should receive continuous attention from nurse managers. The findings provide more comprehensive for nurse administrators to develop intervention strategies to mitigate newly graduated registered nurses’ turnover intention.

Abstract Background A high percentage of cancer patients may experience emotional distress. Oncology nurses are expected to play an important role in recognizing emotional distress and planning and delivering care that meets the individual needs of each patient. However, few studies have focused on the experiences of clinical nurses in such cases. This study adopted a qualitative research method to gain an in-depth understanding of the experience of nursing staff in caring for cancer patients with emotional distress. Methods A qualitative descriptive design and semi-structured interviews were used in this study. Twenty-one oncology nurses were interviewed, and the qualitative content analysis suggested by Graneheim & Lundman (2004) was used to interpret the data. Results Six themes were identified, as follows: (1) dictating the abnormality of emotion, (2) soothing and comforting patients, (3) a lack of psychology knowledge and communication skills, (4) negative impacts of a lack of time, (5) managing emotional labor, and (6) reflecting on the experiences. Conclusion Hospital administrators should arrange pre-employment education and training as well as on-the-job education to help nurses in caring for cancer patients with emotional distress. They should also focus attention on the personal emotional states of nursing staff in a timely manner and provide psychological support and emotional counseling as necessary.

Abstract Objectives To develop and validate a machine learning model using 18F-FDG PET/CT radiomics signature and clinical features to predict the presence of micropapillary and solid (MP/S) components in lung adenocarcinoma. Methods Eight hundred and forty-six patients who underwent preoperative PET/CT with pathologically confirmed adenocarcinoma were enrolled. After segmentation, 1688 radiomics features were extracted from PET/CT and selected to construct predictive models. Then, we developed a nomogram based on PET/CT radiomics integrated with clinical features. Receiver operating curves, calibration curves, and decision curve analysis (DCA) were performed for diagnostics assessment and test of the developed models for distinguishing patients with MP/S components from the patients without. Results PET/CT radiomics-clinical combined model could well distinguish patients with MP/S components from those without MP/S components (AUC = 0.87), which performed better than PET (AUC = 0.829, p

Abstract Background Dilation may be the first right ventricular change and accelerates the progression of threatening ventricular tachyarrhythmias and heart failure for patients with arrhythmogenic right ventricular cardiomyopathy (ARVC), but the treatment for right ventricular dilation remains limited. Methods Single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) of blood and biventricular myocardium from 8 study participants was performed, including 6 end-stage heart failure patients with ARVC and 2 normal controls. ScRNA-seq data was then deeply analyzed, including cluster annotation, cellular proportion calculation, and characterization of cellular developmental trajectories and interactions. An integrative analysis of our single-cell data and published genome-wide association study-based data provided insights into the cell-specific contributions to the cardiac arrhythmia phenotype of ARVC. Desmoglein 2 (Dsg2)mut/mut mice were used as the ARVC model to verify the therapeutic effects of pharmacological intervention on identified cellular cluster. Results Right ventricle of ARVC was enriched of CCL3 + proinflammatory macrophages and TNMD + fibroblasts. Fibroblasts were preferentially affected in ARVC and perturbations associated with ARVC overlap with those reside in genetic variants associated with cardiac arrhythmia. Proinflammatory macrophages strongly interact with fibroblast. Pharmacological inhibition of Nod-like receptor protein 3 (NLRP3), a transcriptional factor predominantly expressed by the CCL3 + proinflammatory macrophages and several other myeloid subclusters, could significantly alleviate right ventricular dilation and dysfunction in Dsg2mut/mut mice (an ARVC mouse model). Conclusions This study provided a comprehensive analysis of the lineage-specific changes in the blood and myocardium from ARVC patients at a single-cell resolution. Pharmacological inhibition of NLRP3 could prevent right ventricular dilation and dysfunction of mice with ARVC.

Due to their extreme requirements, conventional Ni–Ti shape memory alloys (SMAs) are no longer suitable for aerospace applications. Adding Hf to Ni–Ti SMAs can significantly enhance their suitability for aerospace applications, particularly in high-temperature environments. In this regard, the hot/thermal deformation behavior of Ni50.4Ti34.6Hf15 high-temperature shape memory alloys (HTSMAs) was systematically investigated by using a Gleeble-3800 thermocompression simulation machine. The results prove that the Ni50.4Ti34.6Hf15 alloys have more strain sensitivity than the temperature during the hot/thermal deformation process. In detail, the flow stress increases with the increase in strain rate and decreases with the increase in deformation temperature. From the microstructure evolution point of view, the recovery effect will increase with the increase in deformation temperature, and the recrystallization effect will increase with the increase in strain rate. Following the obtained stress-strain curves, the flow behavior of Ni50.4Ti34.6Hf15 alloys during hot/thermal deformation was established. A modified constitutive equations model was proposed using careful consideration of deformation temperature and strain rate. It was found that the calculated strain activation energy was 363.945 kJ/mol in the range of 700∼800 °C and 512.489 kJ/mol in the range of 900∼1000 °C. Based on the constitutive equation, the calculated values were consistent with the experimental values, which indicated reliable analysis with high prediction accuracy. Furthermore, the thermal processing maps under different conditions were constructed, and it was determined that the optimum hot/thermal deformation processing parameters of Ni50.4Ti34.6Hf15 alloys were 940∼1000 °C and 0.01–0.04 s−1.

Transformer-based deep networks have been widely employed for fusing multispectral and hyperspectral images because the global self-attention mechanism ensures that more pixel information is used in the fusion. However, the unreasonable information interactions between local windows in window self-attention-based Transformer can adversely affect the network’s modeling of the global relationship, resulting in low-quality fusion results. This study proposes a novel N-Gram based Swin Transformer Network (NGST-Net). It utilizes more pixels for modeling the global relationship, mining more spectral information of similar pixels. A N-Gram strategy is proposed to learn the spectral feature relationship between the local window and previous and subsequent windows to guide the information interactions between the local windows. A maskless shifted window strategy enables the efficient modeling of the global relationship. Experimental results show that the proposed NGST-Net has fewer parameters, higher inference speed, and smaller memory footprint than several recently published Transformer methods. The improvements in the SAM, ERGAS, and PSNR over the second-best method are 9.9%, 6.5%, and 1%, respectively, on the CAVE dataset. The inference speed of NGST-Net is 10.7 times faster than that of Fusformer. The proposed NGST-Net is a novel deep network model for the effective fusion of multispectral and hyperspectral images.

ABSTRACTIn bone tissue engineering, the search for improved repair methods is crucial, given the drawbacks of traditional strategies like donor site issues and immune rejection. Addressing these challenges, this paper introduces an innovative GelMA/Bentonite composite bioink for 3D bioprinting, designed to create scaffolds that closely emulate native bone tissue. GelMA is selected for its biocompatibility and modifiable mechanics, while Bentonite's mineral richness and ion exchange capacity are harnessed to enhance scaffold structure and promote an osteogenic microenvironment. This research marks the inaugural incorporation of Bentonite into a bioink, a significant stride forward given its established safety in pharmaceuticals and versatility across industries. This bioink formulation signifies a breakthrough in bone tissue engineering, aiming to improve the osteointegration and regeneration of bone tissue. Combining Bentonite with GelMA marks a key step in creating bioinks that enhance bone healing, potentially transforming scaffold-based bone regeneration and pioneering the use of natural nanomaterials in medicine.

Epilepsy is a chronic neurological disease which has affected ∼ 65 million people worldwide. In this study, peripheral blood mononuclear cells were isolated from a young patient patient bearing a KCNQ2 gene mutation and suffering from Epilepsy verified by clinical and genetic diagnosis. Induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) were established by a non-integrative method, using plasmids carrying OCT4, SOX2, KLF4, BCL-XL and C-MYC. The established iPSCs presented typical pluripotent cells morphology, normal karyotype, and potential to differentiate into three germ layers. Our approach offers a useful model to explore pathogenesis and therapy of Epilepsy.

Objectives: Previous studies suggested protective associations of vegetables and fruits (VF) intake with cognitive function, but evidence on specific types of VF was insufficient. Methods: The current study included 4066 participants from 1997 to 2006 in the China Health and Nutrition Survey (CHNS) and 6170 participants from 2013 to 2020 in the Health and Retirement Study (HRS). Dietary intake (using 3-day 24-h dietary recalls in CHNS and food frequency questionnaire in HRS) and cognitive function (using the Telephone Interview for Cognitive Status-Modified, TICS-m) were measured. Linear mixed-effects models were used to estimate the beta coefficients (β) and the 95% confidence intervals (CI) to evaluate the association of VF with cognitive function (z-score) and its decline. Results: Highest intake of total VF was associated with better cognitive function and slower cognitive decline. Differences in cognitive function z-score between the highest and lowest tertiles of VF consumption were 0.039 (95% CI: 0.002, 0.076) for CHNS and 0.063 (95% CI: 0.026, 0.100) for HRS. The corresponding differences in annual cognitive decline were 0.011 (95% CI: 0.002, 0.021) and 0.012 (95% CI: 0.003, 0.020) units respectively. Vegetables and fruits showed independent associations with cognitive function and its decline. In specific VF subgroups, when comparing the highest to the lowest tertile intake, cruciferous vegetables (β = 0.058, 95% CI: 0.017, 0.100 in CHNS and β = 0.067, 95% CI: 0.032, 0.101 in HRS) and green leafy vegetables (β = 0.036, 95% CI: −0.001, 0.073 in CHNS and β = 0.082, 95% CI: 0.046, 0.117 in HRS) was associated with better cognitive function in both cohorts. Similarly, higher intake of dark-colored vegetables (β = 0.019, 95% CI: 0.008, 0.030 for red/yellow vegetables in CHNS and β = 0.004, 95% CI: 0.001, 0.007 for green leafy vegetables in HRS) were associated with slower cognitive decline in subsequent years. Moreover, rigorous sensitivity analyses confirmed the stability of the results. Conclusions: Our findings support the potential beneficial roles of VF, especially cruciferous vegetables, green leafy vegetables, and red/yellow vegetables, in maintaining cognitive function and slowing cognitive decline in middle-aged and older adults.

Accurately distinguishing the origin and variety of rice types is of paramount importance to conducting research on this staple crop. While various methods are currently employed for this purpose, few approaches can verify the identity of single grains rapidly and accurately. In this study, we present a method that integrates machine learning with infrared (IR) microspectroscopy for swift detection of the origin and variety of a single rice grain. To establish the validity of our approach, we assembled a diverse collection of rice samples, comprising 14 distinct types with different origins or varieties. Each rice sample yielded 100 microspectroscopy spectra, resulting in 1400 spectra. We applied two deep learning algorithms, deep neural network (DNN) and convolutional neural network (CNN), for spectral analysis. The 1400 spectra were randomly partitioned into calibration and validation sets at a ratio of 3:1. These datasets were subjected to both DNN and CNN analysis for classification of samples by origin and variety. Following 10,000 iterations, we selected optimal DNN and CNN models. The predication accuracies of the optimal DNN model for calibration and validation sets were 95.4% and 90.0%, respectively. In comparison, the optimal CNN model demonstrated superior accuracy, with 99.8% for the calibration set and 92.0% for the validation set. Based on these results, we selected the CNN model as the final model for field use in rice grain classification.

Background: In non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) is the most common subtype. RNA modification has become the frontier and hotspot of current tumor research. Results: In this study, 109 genes that regulate RNA modifications were identified according to The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA). A differential gene expression analysis identified 46 differentially expressed RNA modification regulatory genes (DERRGs). LUAD samples were stratified into two distinct clusters based on the expression of these DERRGs. A significant correlation was observed between these clusters and patient survival rates, as well as clinical features. Furthermore, a four-DERRG signature (EIF3B, HNRNPC, IGF2BP1, and METTL3) developed using LASSO regression. According to the calculated risk scores from this signature, LUAD patients were categorized into high-risk and low-risk groups. Patients in the low-risk group exhibited a more favorable prognosis. A prognostic nomogram was crafted, integrating the four-DERRGs signature with clinical parameters. The nomogram was revealed that OS, age, clinical stage, immune cell infiltration, and immune checkpoint molecule expression were significantly linked to the OS of LUAD. GSEA analysis found that the DERRGs were primarily regulated immune pathways. Conclusions: This study developed four DERRGs signatures and formulated a nomogram model for precise prognosis estimation in LUAD patients. The study's insights are instrumental for advancing diagnosis, prognosis, and therapeutic strategies for LUAD.

BackgroundThe present study aimed to investigate the drug–drug interaction and initial dosage optimization of aripiprazole in patients with schizophrenia based on population pharmacokinetics.Research design and methodsA total of 119 patients with schizophrenia treated with aripiprazole were included to build an aripiprazole population pharmacokinetic model using nonlinear mixed effects.ResultsThe weight and concomitant medication of fluoxetine influenced aripiprazole clearance. Under the same weight, the aripiprazole clearance rates were 0.714:1 in patients with or without fluoxetine, respectively. In addition, without fluoxetine, for the once-daily aripiprazole regimen, dosages of 0.3 and 0.2 mg kg−1 day−1 were recommended for patients with schizophrenia weighing 40–95 and 95–120 kg, respectively, while for the twice-daily aripiprazole regimen, 0.3 mg kg−1 day−1 was recommended for those weighing 40–120 kg. With fluoxetine, for the once-daily aripiprazole regimen, a dosage of 0.2 mg kg−1 day−1 was recommended for patients with schizophrenia weighing 40–120 kg, while for the twice-daily aripiprazole regimen, 0.3 and 0.2 mg kg−1 day−1 were recommended for those weighing 40–60 and 60–120 kg, respectively.ConclusionThis is the first investigation of the effects of fluoxetine on aripiprazole via drug–drug interaction. The optimal aripiprazole initial dosage is recommended in patients with schizophrenia.

Gliomas are typical malignant brain tumours affecting a wide population worldwide. Operation, as the common treatment for gliomas, is always accompanied by postoperative drug chemotherapy, but cannot cure patients. The main challenges are chemotherapeutic drugs have low blood-brain barrier passage rate and a lot of serious adverse effects, meanwhile, they have difficulty targeting glioma issues. Nowadays, the emergence of nanoparticles (NPs) drug delivery systems (NDDS) has provided a new promising approach for the treatment of gliomas owing to their excellent biodegradability, high stability, good biocompatibility, low toxicity, and minimal adverse effects. Herein, we reviewed the types and delivery mechanisms of NPs currently used in gliomas, including passive and active brain targeting drug delivery. In particular, we primarily focused on various hopeful types of NPs (such as liposome, chitosan, ferritin, graphene oxide, silica nanoparticle, nanogel, neutrophil, and adeno-associated virus), and discussed their advantages, disadvantages, and progress in preclinical trials. Moreover, we outlined the clinical trials of NPs applied in gliomas. According to this review, we provide an outlook of the prospects of NDDS for treating gliomas and summarise some methods that can enhance the targeting specificity and safety of NPs, like surface modification and conjugating ligands and peptides. Although there are still some limitations of these NPs, NDDS will offer the potential for curing glioma patients.

Introduction Severe septic cardiomyopathy (SCM) is one of the main causes of refractory septic shock (RSS), with a high mortality. The application of venoarterial extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) to support the impaired cardiac function in patients with septic shock remains controversial. Moreover, no prospective studies have been taken to address whether venoarterial ECMO treatment could improve the outcome of patients with sepsis-induced cardiogenic shock. The objective of this study is to assess whether venoarterial ECMO treatment can improve the 30-day survival rate of patients with sepsis-induced refractory cardiogenic shock.Methods and analysis ExtraCorporeal Membrane Oxygenation in the therapy for REfractory Septic shock with Cardiac function Under Estimated is a prospective, multicentre, non-randomised, cohort study on the application of ECMO in SCM. At least 64 patients with SCM and RSS will be enrolled in an estimated ratio of 1:1.5. Participants taking venoarterial ECMO during the period of study are referred to as cohort 1, and patients receiving only conventional therapy without ECMO belong to cohort 2. The primary outcome is survival in a 30-day follow-up period. Other end points include survival to intensive care unit (ICU) discharge, hospital survival, 6-month survival, quality of life for long-term survival (EQ-5D score), successful rate of ECMO weaning, long-term survivors’ cardiac function, the number of days alive without continuous renal replacement therapy, mechanical ventilation and vasopressor, ICU and hospital length of stay, the rate of complications potentially related to ECMO treatment.Ethics and dissemination The trial has been approved by the Clinical Research and Application Institutional Review Board of the Second Affiliated Hospital of Guangzhou Medical University (2020-hs-51). Participants will be screened and enrolled from ICU patients with septic shock by clinicians, with no public advertisement for recruitment. Results will be disseminated in research journals and through conference presentations.Trial registration number NCT05184296.

Bletilla striata is an endangered traditional medicinal herb in China. In May 2020, the emergence of white root rot severely impacted the quality and yield of B. striata, affecting about 5% of the plants at plant nurseries of the Chengdu Academy of Agricultural and Forestry Sciences. Through a series of experiments and evaluations, the pathogen was identified as Fusarium solani. This is the first report of B. striata white root rot caused by F. solani in Sichuan, China. To better understand this disease and provide data support for its control, a combination of morphological, molecular characterisation and pathogenicity determination was used in this study for assessment. Meanwhile, the effects of different carbon and nitrogen sources, culture medium, temperature, photoperiod and pH on mycelial growth and spore production of F. solani were investigated. In addition, effective fungicides were screened and the concentration ratios of fungicides were optimized using response surface methodology (RSM). The experimental results showed that sucrose was the optimum carbon source for the pathogen, and the optimum temperature and pH were 25°C and pH 7, respectively, while light did no significant effect. Effective fungicides were screened, among which difenoconazole showed the strongest inhibition with EC50 of 142.773 µg/mL. The optimum fungicide concentration scheme (difenoconazole, pyraclostrobin, and thiophanate-methyl at 395.42, 781.03, and 561.11 µg/mL, respectively) was obtained using response surface methodology (RSM) to improve the inhibition rate of 92.24 ± 0.34%. This study provides basic data for the pathogen characterization of B. striata white root rot and its potential fungicides in Sichuan, China. In addition, the optimal fungicide concentration ratios were obtained through response surface methodology (RSM) optimization, which significantly enhanced the fungicidal effect and provided a scientific basis for the future control of B. striata white root rot.

Summary: Background: Despite numerous studies having evaluated the associations between human papillomavirus (HPV) infection and risk of specific cancers other than anogenital tract and oropharyngeal, the findings are inconsistent and the quality of evidence has not been systematically quantified. We aimed to summarise the existing evidence as well as to evaluate the strength and credibility of these associations. Methods: We conducted an umbrella review of systematic reviews and meta-analyses of observational studies. PubMed, EMBASE, and Web of Science were searched from inception to March 2024. Studies with systematic reviews and meta-analyses that examined associations between HPV or HPV-associated genotypes infection and specific cancers were eligible for this review. The quality of the methodology was evaluated using A Measurement Tool to Assess systematic Reviews (AMSTAR). The credibility of the evidence was assessed using GRADE. The protocol was preregistered with PROSPERO (CRD42023439070). Findings: The umbrella review identified 31 eligible studies reporting 87 associations with meta-analytic estimates, including 1191 individual studies with 336,195 participants. Of those, 29 (93.5%) studies were rated as over moderate quality by AMSTAR. Only one association indicating HPV-18 infection associated with an increased risk of breast cancer (odds ratio [OR] = 3.48, 95% confidence interval [CI] = 2.24–5.41) was graded as convincing evidence. There were five unique outcomes identified as highly suggestive evidence, including HPV infection increased the risk of oral squamous cell carcinoma (OR = 7.03, 95% CI = 3.87–12.76), oesophageal cancer (OR = 3.32, 95% CI = 2.54–4.34), oesophageal squamous cell carcinoma (OR = 2.69, 95% CI = 2.05–3.54), lung cancer (OR = 3.60, 95% CI = 2.59–5.01), and breast cancer (OR = 6.26, 95% CI = 4.35–9.00). According to GRADE, one association was classified as high, indicating that compared with the controls in normal tissues, HPV infection was associated with an increased risk of breast cancer. Interpretation: The umbrella review synthesised up-to-date observational evidence on HPV infection with the risk of breast cancer, oral squamous cell carcinoma, oesophageal cancer, oesophageal squamous cell carcinoma, and lung cancer. Further larger prospective cohort studies are needed to verify the associations, providing public health recommendations for prevention of disease. The practicality of conventional solid–liquid phase change materials (PCMs) is adversely restricted by liquid phase leakage, large volume expansion, shape instability, and severe corrosion in high-temperature thermal management systems. This highlight presents the latest development to resolve these challenges by designing ultrahigh-performance high-temperature Ni-Mn-Ti solid–solid PCMs using martensitic phase transition strategy, offering a new paradigm to develop advanced wide-temperature high-temperature metallic solid–solid phase change thermal storage materials.

Apolipoprotein B (APOB) is the primary structural protein of atherogenic lipoproteins, which drive atherogenesis and thereby lead to deadly cardiovascular diseases (CVDs). Plasma levels of APOB-containing lipoproteins are tightly modulated by LDL receptor–mediated endocytic trafficking and cargo receptor–initiated exocytic route; the latter is much less well understood. This protocol aims to present an uncomplicated yet effective method for detecting APOB/lipoprotein secretion. We perform primary mouse hepatocyte isolation and culture coupled with well-established techniques such as immunoblotting for highly sensitive, specific, and semi-quantitative analysis of the lipoprotein secretion process. Its inherent simplicity facilitates ease of operation, rendering it a valuable tool widely utilized to explore the intricate landscape of cellular lipid metabolism and unravel the mechanistic complexities underlying lipoprotein-related diseases.

Abstract Whistler‐mode waves are commonly observed within the lunar environment, while their variations during Interplanetary (IP) shocks are not fully understood yet. In this paper, we analyze two IP shock events observed by Acceleration, Reconnection, Turbulence and Electrodynamics of the Moons Interaction with the Sun (ARTEMIS) satellites while the Moon was exposed to the solar wind. In the first event, ARTEMIS detected whistler‐mode wave intensification, accompanied by sharply increased hot electron flux and anisotropy across the shock ramp. The potential reflection or backscattering of electrons by the lunar crustal magnetic field is found to be favorable for whistler‐mode wave intensification. In the second event, a magnetic field line rotation around the shock region was observed and correlated with whistler‐mode wave intensification. The wave growth rates calculated using linear theory agree well with the observed wave spectra. Our study highlights the significance of magnetic field variations and anisotropic hot electron distributions in generating whistler‐mode waves in the lunar plasma environment following IP shock arrivals.

Abstract We statistically evaluate the global distribution and energy spectrum of electron precipitation at low‐Earth‐orbit, using unprecedented pitch‐angle and energy resolved data from the Electron Losses and Fields INvestigation CubeSats. Our statistical results indicate that during active conditions, the ∼63 keV electron precipitation ratio peaks at L > 6 at midnight, whereas the spatial distribution of precipitating energy flux peaks between the dawn and noon sectors. ∼1 MeV electron precipitation ratio peaks near midnight at L > ∼6 but is enhanced near dusk during active times. The energy spectrum of the precipitation ratio shows reversal points indicating energy dispersion as a function of L shell in both the slot region and at L > ∼6, consistent with hiss‐driven precipitation and current sheet scattering, respectively. Our findings provide accurate quantification of electron precipitation at various energies in a broad region of the Earth's magnetosphere, which is critical for magnetosphere‐ionosphere coupling.

The rapid development of the electric vehicle market has greatly stimulated the demand for public charging infrastructure (PCI) and made it a pertinent topic to improve its charging service quality in the industry. Data from perceived preference, PCI and electric vehicles cannot reflect the factors influencing potential users’ anxiety. This study designed a PCI development evaluation framework to investigate the impact of economic, technological, market, policy, and social environmental factors on PCI development from the perspective of potential users. We collected a dataset including 386 potential users in Tianjin, China, and employed structural equation model to survey the implementation of PCI. The following conclusions were drawn from this study: 1) Reducing operating costs will not significantly increase PCI charging user demand and improve use efficiency for potential users; 2) Technical factors cannot directly promote the development of PCI but will reverse lag the development of the market; 3) The growing market demand is the main impetus to the development of electric vehicle industry, and the incentive policy and social environment can indirectly incentivize PCI development. The policy implications suggest that the PCI industry can experience sustainable development by continuously innovating market-oriented business models, and improving policy systems and industry mechanisms. This study provides analytical foundation and decision support for policymakers and pertinent industry participants, promotes the development of electric vehicle-related industries, and helps achieve the strategic goal of carbon neutrality.

Quality improvement is an international priority, and quality education and training are important parts of hospital quality management. The aim of this study was to understand the knowledge, attitudes and practices (KAP) and its influencing factors related to quality training in medical staff. A questionnaire survey was conducted by convenience sampling to assess the KAP of quality training in Taizhou Enze Medical Center. Principal component analysis was used to extract factors from the questionnaire. Descriptive statistics (frequency, median, mean), Kendall grade correlation analysis, and Mann–Whitney U tests were used to analyze the data. A total of 205 staff members participated in the questionnaire survey. For the 5 factors of the KAP scale, the highest score was factor F4, recognition and support for quality training (mean = 90.55, median = 100), followed by factor F3, perceived benefits (mean = 84.46, median = 85.65). Relatively lower scores were found for factor F2, quality knowledge learning and mastery (mean = 63.09, median = 63.89), and F5, quality management practices and sharing (mean = 82.07, median = 75.00). There was a correlation between the 5 factors. The scores of F2 (quality knowledge learning and mastery) for staff with senior professional titles were higher than those for staff with intermediate professional titles or below. The score of F3 (perceived benefits of quality training) in medical technicians and nurses was higher than in doctors and administrative personnel. Our findings showed that the respondents’ attitude toward quality training was positive, but their knowledge mastery and practice behaviors should be further improved. Occupational category and professional title were the influencing factors of the quality training KAP. Therefore, hospital should conduct quality management training at a wider scope according to the competency requirements of different groups, and further optimize the improvement and innovation system.

Abstract Using the high‐time‐resolution data from the Magnetospheric Multiscale mission, precursor waves upstream of foreshock transient (FT) shocks are statistically investigated using the four‐spacecraft timing method. The wave frequencies and wave vectors determined in the plasma rest frame (PRF) are shown to follow the cold plasma dispersion relation for whistler waves. Combining with the feature of the right‐hand polarization in the PRF, the precursors are identified as whistler‐mode waves around the lower hybrid frequency. The occurrence of whistler precursors is independent of the Alfvén Mach number and the FT shock normal angle. More importantly, all the whistler precursors have group velocities pointing upstream in the shock frame, suggesting the dispersive radiation to be a possible generation mechanism. The study improves the understanding of not only the whistler precursors but also the overall FT shock dynamics.

Abstract Whistler mode waves in the plasmasphere and plumes drive significant losses of energetic electrons from the Earth's radiation belts into the upper atmosphere. In this study, we conducted a survey of amplitude‐dependent whistler wave properties and analyzed their associated background plasma conditions and electron fluxes in the plasmasphere and plumes. Our findings indicate that extremely large amplitude (>400 pT) whistler waves (a) tend to occur at L > 4 over the midnight‐dawn‐noon sectors and have small wave normal angles; (b) are more likely to occur during active geomagnetic conditions associated with higher fluxes of anisotropic electrons at 10 s keV energies; and (c) tend to occur at higher latitudes up to 20° with increasing amplitude. These results suggest that extremely large amplitude whistler waves in the plasmasphere and plumes could be generated locally by injected electrons during substorms and further amplified when propagating to higher latitudes.

Abstract Background Apatinib is an oral small‐molecule tyrosine kinase inhibitor that blocks vascular endothelial growth factor receptor‐2. Oral vinorelbine is a semisynthetic chemotherapeutic agent of vinorelbine alkaloids. Apatinib and oral vinorelbine have been proved to be effective in the treatment of metastatic breast cancer (mBC). At present, several small sample clinical trials have explored the efficacy of apatinib combined with oral vinorelbine in the treatment of mBC. Methods This retrospective study included 100 human epidermal growth factor receptor‐2 (HER2)‐negative mBC patients who received low‐dose apatinib (250 mg orally per day) plus oral vinorelbine until disease progression or intolerance during February 2017 and March 2023. The progression‐free survival (PFS), overall survival (OS), objective response rate (ORR), clinical benefit rate (CBR), disease control rate (DCR), and safety were analyzed by SPSS 26.0 software and GraphPad Prism 8 software. Cox proportional hazards regression model for univariate and multivariate was used to identify factors significantly related to PFS and OS. Results The median follow‐up time for this study was 38.1 months. Among 100 patients with HER2‐negative mBC, 66 were hormone receptor (HR)‐positive/HER2‐negative and 34 were triple‐negative breast cancer (TNBC). The median PFS and OS were 6.0 months (95% CI, 5.2–6.8 months) and 23.0 months (95% CI, 19.9–26.1 months). There were no statistical differences in PFS (p = 0.239) and OS (p = 0.762) between the HR‐positive /HER2‐negative and TNBC subgroups. The ORR, CBR, and DCR were 21.0%, 58.0%, and 78.0%, respectively. Ninety‐five patients (95.0%) experienced varying grades of adverse events (AEs) and 38.0% of patients for Grades 3–4. The most common Grades 3–4 AEs that we observed were neutropenia (30.0%) and leukopenia (25.0%). Conclusion Low‐dose apatinib combined with oral vinorelbine demonstrates potential efficacy and well tolerated for pretreated HER2‐negative mBC.

ObjectivesTo develop a predictive model for patent ductus arteriosus (PDA) in preterm infants at seven days postpartum. The model employs ultrasound measurements of the ductus arteriosus (DA) intimal thickness (IT) obtained within 24 h after birth.MethodsOne hundred and five preterm infants with gestational ages ranging from 27.0 to 36.7 weeks admitted within 24 h following birth were prospectively enrolled. Echocardiographic assessments were performed to measure DA IT within 24 h after birth, and DA status was evaluated through echocardiography on the seventh day postpartum. Potential predictors were considered, including traditional clinical risk factors, M-mode ultrasound parameters, lumen diameter of the DA (LD), and DA flow metrics. A final prediction model was formulated through bidirectional stepwise regression analysis and subsequently subjected to internal validation. The model's discriminative ability, calibration, and clinical applicability were also assessed.ResultsThe final predictive model included birth weight, application of mechanical ventilation, left ventricular end-diastolic diameter (LVEDd), LD, and the logarithm of IT (logIT). The receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve for the model, predicated on logIT, exhibited excellent discriminative power with an area under the curve (AUC) of 0.985 (95% CI: 0.966–1.000), sensitivity of 1.000, and specificity of 0.909. Moreover, the model demonstrated robust calibration and goodness-of-fit (χ2 value = 0.560, p > 0.05), as well as strong reproducibility (accuracy: 0.935, Kappa: 0.773), as evidenced by 10-fold cross-validation. A decision curve analysis confirmed the model's broad clinical utility.ConclusionsOur study successfully establishes a predictive model for PDA in preterm infants at seven days postpartum, leveraging the measurement of DA IT. This model enables identifying, within the first 24 h of life, infants who are likely to benefit from timely DA closure, thereby informing treatment decisions.

The Middle Permian Qixia Formation in the Shuangyushi area, northwestern Sichuan Basin, develops shoal-facies dolomite reservoirs. To pinpoint promising reservoirs in the Qixia Formation, deep thin shoal-facies dolomite reservoirs were predicted using the techniques of pre-stack Kirchhoff-Q compensation for absorption, inverse Q filtering, low-to high-frequency compensation, forward modeling, and facies-controlled seismic meme inversion. The results are obtained in six aspects. First, the dolomite reservoirs mainly exist in the middle and lower parts of the second member of Qixia Formation (Qi2 Member), which coincide with the zones shoal cores are developed. Second, the forward modeling shows that the trough energy at the top and bottom of shoal core increases with increasing shoal-core thickness, and weak peak reflections are associated in the middle of shoal core. Third, five types of seismic waveform are identified through waveform analysis of seismic facies. Type-I and Type-II waveforms correspond to promising facies (shoal core microfacies). Fourth, vertically, two packages of thin dolomite reservoirs turn up in the sedimentary cycle of intraplatform shoal in the Qi2 Member, and the lower package is superior to the upper package in dolomite thickness, scale and lateral connectivity. Fifth, in plane, significantly controlled by sedimentary facies, dolomite reservoirs laterally distribute with consistent thickness in shoal cores at topographical highs and extend toward the break. Sixth, the promising prospects are the zones with thick dolomite reservoirs and superimposition of horst–graben structural traps.

ObjectivesTo investigate the association between contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) features of PTC and central lymph node metastasis (CLNM) and to develop a predictive model for the preoperative identification of CLNM.MethodsThis retrospective study evaluated 750 consecutive patients with PTC from August 2020 to April 2023. Conventional ultrasound and qualitative CEUS features were analyzed for the PTC with or without CLNM using univariate and multivariate logistic regression analysis. A nomogram integrating the predictors was constructed to identify CLNM in PTC. The predictive nomogram was validated using a validation cohort.ResultsA total of 684 patients were enrolled. The 495 patients in training cohort were divided into two groups according to whether they had CLNM (pCLNM, n= 191) or not (nCLNM, n= 304). There were significant differences in terms of tumor size, shape, echogenic foci, enhancement direction, peak intensity, and score based on CEUS TI-RADS between the two groups. Independent predictive US features included irregular shape, larger tumor size (≥ 1.0cm), and score. Nomogram integrating these predictive features showed good discrimination and calibration in both training and validation cohort with an AUC of 0.72 (95% CI: 0.68, 0.77) and 0.79 (95% CI: 0.72, 0.85), respectively. In the subgroup with larger tumor size, age ≤ 35 years, irregular shape, and score > 6 were independent risk factors for CLNM.ConclusionThe score based on preoperative CEUS features of PTC may help to identify CLNM. The nomogram developed in this study provides a convenient and effective tool for clinicians to determine an optimal treatment regimen for patients with PTC.

Background: Cervicocerebral CT angiography (CTA) using the bolus tracking technique has been widely used for the assessment of cerebrovascular diseases. Regions of interest (ROI) can be placed in the descending aorta, ascending aorta, and the aortic arch. However, no study has compared the arteries and veins display when when the region of interest (ROI) is placed at different sites. In this study, we showed the impact of ROI positions on the image quality of cervicocerebral CTA. Methods: Two hundred and seventy patients who underwent cervicocerebral CTA with bolus tracking technique were randomly divided into three groups based on the position of the ROI placement: ascending aorta (Group 1, n = 90), aortic arch (Group 2, n = 90), and descending aorta (Group 3, n = 90). The scanning parameters and contrast agent injection protocols were consistent across all groups. Background: Globally, lung carcinoma remains the leading cause of death, with its associated morbidity and mortality rates remaining elevated. Despite the slow advancement of treatment, the outlook remains bleak. Cellular senescence represents a halt in the cell cycle, encompassing a range of physiological and pathological activities, along with diverse phenotypic alterations, including variations in secretory phenotype, macromolecular harm, and metabolic disturbances. Research has revealed its vital function in the formation and growth of tumors. This study aimed to examine cellular senescence-related mRNAs linked to the outlook of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) and to formulate a predictive risk framework for NSCLC. Methods: We acquired the NSCLC expression data from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) to examine mRNAs linked to cellular senescence. Both single-variable and multiple-variable cox proportion risk assessments were utilized to determine the traits of cellular senescence-related mRNAs linked to NSCLC prognosis. Kuiper's statistic is a good measure for the difference of ideal distribution and empirical distribution in the goodness-of-fit test. However, it is a challenging problem to solve the critical value and upper tail quantile, or simply Kuiper pair, of Kuiper's statistics due to the difficulties of solving the nonlinear equation and reasonable approximation of infinite series. In this work, the contributions lie in three perspectives: firstly, the second order approximation for the infinite series of the cumulative distribution of the critical value is used to achieve higher precision; secondly, the principles and fixed-point algorithms for solving the Kuiper pair are presented with details; finally, finally, a mistake about the critical value cnα for (α,n)=(0.01,30) in Kuiper's distribution table has been labeled and corrected where n is the sample capacity and α is the upper tail quantile. The algorithms are verified and validated by comparing with the table provided by Kuiper. The methods and algorithms proposed are enlightening and worth of introducing to the college students, computer programmers, engineers, experimental psychologists and so on.

Road pavement cracks are a critical factor affecting the health conditions of road pavements. Accurate crack detection contributes to providing data support for road maintenance measures. Compared to conventional crack detection algorithms, deep learning based crack segmentation methods have practical significance for road maintenance and traffic safety management due to their high precision and automation. However, existing deep learning methods often suffer from segmentation accuracy loss due to the varying crack sizes and the presence of stains on the pavement with spatial characteristics similar to cracks, leading to the misclassification of cracks. Therefore, this study proposed a multiscale enhanced road pavement crack segmentation network (MS-CrackSeg) by coupling spectral and spatial information to detect pavement cracks from unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) hyperspectral imagery. MS-CrackSeg can simultaneously learn the spatial and rich spectral features of cracks in the hyperspectral imagery, improving the discrimination of those targets with similar spatial features to cracks compared to previous approaches. Moreover, the Multiscale Self-Attention-like Feature Extraction Module (MSSA) is introduced to extract and fuse multiscale crack features to enhance the crack detection. Experiments on a dataset consisting of 1031 hyperspectral images demonstrated the superior crack segmentation of the proposed method compared to the comparative methods. In particular, the proposed method achieved the highest F1-score of 0.74 and mean Intersection over Union of 0.79, indicating an exceptional performance. The developed approach offers improved data support for road maintenance measures and has validated the advantages of UAV hyperspectral imagery in road crack segmentation.
