Cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) has become the reference standard for quantitative and qualitative assessment of ventricular function, blood flow, and myocardial tissue characterization. There is a preponderance of large CMR studies and registries in adults; However, similarly powered studies are lacking for the pediatric and congenital heart disease (PCHD) population. To date, most CMR studies in children are limited to small single or multicenter studies, thereby limiting the conclusions that can be drawn. Within the PCHD CMR community, a collaborative effort has been successfully employed to recognize knowledge gaps with the aim to embolden the development and initiation of high-quality, large-scale multicenter research. In this publication, we highlight the underlying challenges and provide a practical guide toward the development of larger, multicenter initiatives focusing on PCHD populations, which can serve as a model for future multicenter efforts.

BackgroundHypoglycemia is a frequent and acute complication in type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM) and is associated with a higher risk of car mishaps. Currently, hypoglycemia can be detected and signaled through flash glucose monitoring or continuous glucose monitoring devices, which require manual and visual interaction, thereby removing the focus of attention from the driving task. Hypoglycemia causes a decrease in attention, thereby challenging the safety of using such devices behind the wheel. Here, we present an investigation of a hands-free technology—a voice warning that can potentially be delivered via an in-vehicle voice assistant. ObjectiveThis study aims to investigate the feasibility of an in-vehicle voice warning for hypoglycemia, evaluating both its effectiveness and user perception. MethodsWe designed a voice warning and evaluated it in 3 studies. In all studies, participants received a voice warning while driving. Study 0 (n=10) assessed the feasibility of using a voice warning with healthy participants driving in a simulator. Study 1 (n=18) assessed the voice warning in participants with T1DM. Study 2 (n=20) assessed the voice warning in participants with T1DM undergoing hypoglycemia while driving in a real car. We measured participants’ self-reported perception of the voice warning (with a user experience scale in study 0 and with acceptance, alliance, and trust scales in studies 1 and 2) and compliance behavior (whether they stopped the car and reaction time). In addition, we assessed technology affinity and collected the participants’ verbal feedback. ResultsTechnology affinity was similar across studies and approximately 70% of the maximal value. Perception measure of the voice warning was approximately 62% to 78% in the simulated driving and 34% to 56% in real-world driving. In this work, we demonstrate post-compression of 1.2 picosecond laser pulses to 13 fs via gas-based multi-pass spectral broadening. Our results yield a single-stage compression factor of about 40 at 200 W in-burst average power and a total compression factor >90 at reduced power. The employed scheme represents a route towards compact few-cycle sources driven by industrial-grade Yb:YAG lasers at high average power.

We present a general method for solving the modified Helmholtz equation without shape approximation for an arbitrary periodic charge distribution, whose solution is known as the Yukawa potential or the screened Coulomb potential. The method is an extension of Weinert's pseudo-charge method [M. Weinert, J. Math. Phys. 22, 2433 (1981)] for solving the Poisson equation for the same class of charge density distributions. The inherent differences between the Poisson and the modified Helmholtz equation are in their respective radial solutions. These are polynomial functions, for the Poisson equation, and modified spherical Bessel functions, for the modified Helmholtz equation. This leads to a definition of a modified pseudo-charge density and modified multipole moments. We have shown that Weinert's convergence analysis of an absolutely and uniformly convergent Fourier series of the pseudo-charge density is transferred to the modified pseudo-charge density. We conclude by illustrating the algorithmic changes necessary to turn an available implementation of the Poisson solver into a solver for the modified Helmholtz equation., Comment: submitted to the Journal of Mathematical Physics

Exchange bias (EB) is a unidirectional anisotropy caused by interface coupling between a ferromagnet and an antiferromagnet. It causes a preferential direction of magnetization in the ferromagnet, which manifests as a shift of the hysteresis loop along the magnetic field axis. Here, we demonstrate a large EB of over 1000 Oe at 20 K in a twinned Co(111)/Co3O4(111) thin film epitaxially grown on sapphire(0001) with sixfold rotational lattice symmetry, which is among the highest values reported for Co/Co1−yO systems. In such systems, the effect intensity is largest along the magnetic easy axes, which usually results in an anisotropy of the EB in epitaxial interfaces. However, we observed identical EB values for 0°, 15°, and 30° angles between the magnetic field and the nearest Co[002] magnetic easy axes. The measurements imply a relaxation of the magnetization to the nearest easy axis, suggesting increasingly isotropic EB fields with higher orders of rotational lattice symmetry.

The prediction of material properties through electronic-structuresimulations based on density-functional theory has become routinely common,thanks, in part, to the steady increase in the number and robustness ofavailable simulation packages. This plurality of codes and methods aiming tosolve similar problems is both a boon and a burden. While providing greatopportunities for cross-verification, these packages adopt different methods,algorithms, and paradigms, making it challenging to choose, master, andefficiently use any one for a given task. Leveraging recent advances inmanaging reproducible scientific workflows, we demonstrate how developingcommon interfaces for workflows that automatically compute material propertiescan tackle the challenge mentioned above, greatly simplifying interoperabilityand cross-verification. We introduce design rules for reproducible and reusablecode-agnostic workflow interfaces to compute well-defined material properties,which we implement for eleven different quantum engines and use to computethree different material properties. Each implementation encodes carefullyselected simulation parameters and workflow logic, making the implementer'sexpertise of the quantum engine directly available to non-experts. Fullprovenance and reproducibility of the workflows is guaranteed through the useof the AiiDA infrastructure. All workflows are made available as open-sourceand come pre-installed with the Quantum Mobile virtual machine, making theiruse straightforward.

Die Gendermedizin hat in den letzten Jahrzehnten zunehmend an Bedeutung gewonnen. Kritik an androzentrischen Wissenspraktiken, vergeschlechtlichte Objekt-Subjekt-Relationen und der Gender Data Gap bildeten den Keim gendermedizinischer Forschung. Die Geschlechterperzeption kann als eine Schlüsselfrage der Gendermedizin verstanden werden, welche die Operationalisierung von Geschlecht intradisziplinär verhandelt. Bislang scheitert sie dabei an einer homogenen Definition und hält an Paradigmen quantitativer Wissenspraktiken fest. Die Komplexität der Kategorie Geschlecht verlangt jedoch nach vielschichtigen Betrachtungen, die über disziplinäre Grenzen hinausgehen. Insgesamt bieten die in den Wissenspraktiken, der Geschlechterperzeption und dem inter-/transdisziplinären Verständnis verorteten Forschungsfelder um die Operationalisierung von Geschlecht Räume, in denen sich die Gendermedizin, Feminist Science Studies, Gender Studies und weitere treffen können und müssen.

Abstract A significant proportion of the infant gut microbiome is considered to be acquired from the mother during and after birth. Thus begins a lifelong and dynamic relationship with microbes that has an enduring impact on host health. Based on a cohort of 135 mother-infant (F = 72, M = 63) dyads (MicrobeMom: ISRCTN53023014), we investigated the phenomenon of microbial strain transfer, with a particular emphasis on the use of a combined metagenomic-culture-based approach to determine the frequency of strain transfer involving members of the genus Bifidobacterium, including species/strains present at low relative abundance. From the isolation and genome sequencing of over 449 bifidobacterial strains, we validate and augment metagenomics-based evidence to reveal strain transfer in almost 50% of dyads. Factors important in strain transfer include vaginal birth, spontaneous rupture of amniotic membranes, and avoidance of intrapartum antibiotics. Importantly, we reveal that several transfer events are uniquely detected employing either cultivation or metagenomic sequencing, highlighting the requirement for a dual approach to obtain an in-depth insight into this transfer process.

169. Patient‐reported outcomes on empagliflozin treatment in glycogen storage disease type Ib: An international questionnaire study

Abstract In patients with glycogen storage disease type Ib (GSD Ib), quality of life is severely hampered by neutropenia and neutropenia‐associated symptoms. SGLT2 inhibitors are a new treatment option and have shown improved medical outcomes in more than 120 patients so far. The aim of this international questionnaire study was to assess patient‐reported outcomes of this new treatment in GSD Ib patients. Patients and caregivers of pediatric patients were invited to complete a web‐based questionnaire. This was designed to evaluate treatment effects of the SGLT2 inhibitor empagliflozin on clinical symptoms and important aspects of daily life including physical performance, sleep, social and work life, traveling, socioeconomic aspects, and quality of life. The questionnaire was completed by 73 respondents from 17 different countries. The mean duration of treatment was 15 months, the cumulative treatment time was 94.8 years. More than 80% of patients reported an improved quality of life. The number of hospitalizations was reduced (66% of patients), as well as the number of days absent from school or work. Granulocyte colony‐stimulating factor (G‐CSF) treatment could be stopped in 49% of patients and reduced in another 42%. Clear improvement of neutropenia and all neutropenia‐associated symptoms was reported by the majority of patients. Additionally, patients or caregivers reported positive effects on appetite (63%), level of activity (75%), overall well‐being (96%), and sleep (63%). Empagliflozin positively impacts many aspects of daily life including work and social life and thereby significantly improves quality of life of patients and caregivers.

Driver identification has emerged as a vital research field, where both practitioners and researchers investigate the potential of driver identification to enable a personalized driving experience. Within recent years, a selection of studies have reported that individuals could be perfectly identified based on their driving behavior under controlled conditions. However, research investigating the potential of driver identification under naturalistic conditions claim accuracies only marginally higher than random guess. The paper at hand provides a comprehensive summary of the recent work, highlighting the main discrepancies in the design of the machine learning approaches, primarily the window length parameter that was considered. Key findings further indicate that the longitudinal vehicle control information is particularly useful for driver identification, leaving the research gap on the extent to which the lateral vehicle control can be used for reliable identification. Building upon existing work, we provide a novel approach for the design of the window length parameter that provides evidence that reliable driver identification can be achieved with data limited to the steering wheel only. The results and insights in this paper are based on data collected from the largest naturalistic driving study conducted in this field. Overall, a neural network based on GRUs was found to provide better identification performance than traditional methods, increasing the prediction accuracy from under 15\% to over 65\% for 15 drivers. With the increasing complexity of CPSs, their behavior and decisions become increasingly difficult to understand and comprehend for users and other stakeholders. Our vision is to build self-explainable systems that can, at run-time, answer questions about the system's past, current, and future behavior. As hitherto no design methodology or reference framework exists for building such systems, we propose the MAB-EX framework for building self-explainable systems that leverage requirements- and explainability models at run-time. The basic idea of MAB-EX is to first Monitor and Analyze a certain behavior of a system, then Build an explanation from explanation models and convey this EXplanation in a suitable way to a stakeholder. We also take into account that new explanations can be learned, by updating the explanation models, should new and yet un-explainable behavior be detected by the system.

The reactions of the human body to physical exercise, psychophysiological stress and heart diseases are reflected in heart rate variability (HRV). Thus, continuous monitoring of HRV can contribute to determining and predicting issues in well-being and mental health. HRV can be measured in everyday life by consumer wearable devices such as smartwatches which are easily accessible and affordable. However, they are arguably accurate due to the stability of the sensor. We hypothesize a systematic error which is related to the wearer movement. Our evidence builds upon explanatory and predictive modeling: we find a statistically significant correlation between error in HRV measurements and the wearer movement. We show that this error can be minimized by bringing into context additional available sensor information, such as accelerometer data. Prosumers in many regions are facing reduced feed-in tariffs and currently have no possibility to influence the level of remuneration for the locally produced solar energy. Peer-to-peer communities may offer an alternative to the feed-in tariff model by enabling prosumers to directly sell their solar energy to local consumers (possibly at a rate that is beneficial for both consumer and prosumer). The Quartierstrom project investigates a transactional energy system that manages the exchange and remuneration of electricity between consumers, prosumers and the local electric grid provider in the absence of intermediaries. This whitepaper describes the prototypical real-world system being implemented in the town of Walenstadt, Switzerland, with 37 participating households. The community members of this pilot project pay a reduced tariff for grid usage if the electricity produced by a prosumer is sold to another community member, which is located on the same voltage or grid level downstream a substation1. Such a tariff structure incentivizes local balancing, i.e. locally produced energy can be consumed locally whenever possible to avoid costs from higher grid levels. The blockchain is a novel technology suitable to log the produced and consumed units of energy within a community, making it possible to implement market places. In those marketplaces, both prosumers and consumers can indicate a price at which they are willing to sell / buy locally produced solar energy without the intermediation of a utility. Context. Pluto's tenuous nitrogen (N2) atmosphere undergoes strong seasonal effects due to high obliquity and orbital eccentricity, and has been recently (July 2015) observed by the New Horizons spacecraft. Goals are (i) construct a well calibrated record of the seasonal evolution of surface pressure on Pluto and (ii) constrain the structure of the lower atmosphere using a central flash observed in 2015. Method: eleven stellar occultations by Pluto observed between 2002 and 2016 are used to retrieve atmospheric profiles (density, pressure, temperature) between $\sim$5 km and $\sim$380 km altitude levels (i.e. pressures from about 10 microbar to 10 nanobar). Results: (i) Pressure has suffered a monotonic increase from 1988 to 2016, that is compared to a seasonal volatile transport model, from which tight constraints on a combination of albedo and emissivity of N2 ice are derived; (ii) A central flash observed on 2015 June 29 is consistent with New Horizons REX profiles, provided that (a) large diurnal temperature variations (not expected by current models) occur over Sputnik Planitia and/or (b) hazes with tangential optical depth of about 0.3 are present at 4-7 km altitude levels and/or (c) the nominal REX density values are overestimated by an implausibly large factor of about 20% and/or (d) higher terrains block part of the flash in the Charon facing hemisphere., Comment: 21 pages, 11 figures

Abstract Background Eating in absence of hunger is quite common and often associated with an increased energy intake co-existent with a poorer food choice. Intuitive eating (IE), i.e., eating in accordance with internal hunger and satiety cues, may protect from overeating. IE, however, requires accurate perception and processing of one’s own bodily signals, also referred to as interoceptive sensitivity. Training interoceptive sensitivity might therefore be an effective method to promote IE and prevent overeating. As most studies on eating behavior are conducted in younger adults and close social relationships influence health-related behavior, this study focuses on middle-aged and older couples. Methods The present pilot randomized intervention study aims at investigating the feasibility and effectiveness of a 21-day mindfulness-based training program designed to increase interoceptive sensitivity. A total of N = 60 couples participating in the NutriAct Family Study, aged 50–80 years, will be recruited. This randomized-controlled intervention study comprises three measurement points (pre-intervention, post-intervention, 4-week follow-up) and a 21-day training that consists of daily mindfulness-based guided audio exercises (e.g., body scan). A three-arm intervention study design is applied to compare two intervention groups (training together as a couple vs. training alone) with a control group (no training). Each measurement point includes the assessment of self-reported and objective indicators of interoceptive sensitivity (primary outcome), self-reported indicators of intuitive and maladaptive eating (secondary outcomes), and additional variables. A training evaluation applying focus group discussions will be conducted to assess participants’ overall acceptance of the training and its feasibility. Discussion By investigating the feasibility and effectiveness of a mindfulness-based training program to increase interoceptive sensitivity, the present study will contribute to a deeper understanding of how to promote healthy eating in older age. In an ischaemic stroke, a blood clot (thrombus) occludes one of the arteries supplying the brain with oxygen. In such cases, a prompt and safe removal of the thrombus by interventional physicians is of high importance. The procedure of mechanical thrombectomy is mainly trained on animal models or simple flow models with animal- or human-based thrombi. The aim of this study is to develop a completely blood free thrombus model for use in an existing physical neurointerventional simulation model. Based on requirements established with treating physicians and supplemented by a broad literature review, a systematic material selection based on mechanical properties was performed by means of a material database. Selected materials, as well as other materials from a literature search and structural additive manufactured clots, were produced and selectively narrowed down, by means of functional property testing. Based on a pre-selection by a simple test set-up, the main tests were carried out on the existing simulation model by interventional physicians under realistic test conditions in a clinical angiography suite. As a result, four different types of thrombi varying in elasticity, solidity and fragmentation, were obtained by material combinations based on agarose and silicone in different concentrations and with further additives.
