The Jinchang deposit, Ailaoshan Belt, is a hydrothermal gold-nickel deposit in which nickel mineralization formed during Triassic accretionary orogeny and gold mineralization during Miocene collisional orogeny. Although the nickel and gold orebodies largely overlap in an ophiolite melange at the contacts between ultramafic and metasedimentary sequences, nickel and gold concentrations have only a weak correlation in orebodies intersected in drill cores. The hydrothermal nickel sulfide ores are mainly concentrated at ultramafic-metasedimentary rock contacts. Broad alteration zones surround the contacts, with proximal quartz + clinochlore + magnesite in both rocks through quartz + fuchsite to distal muscovite + quartz assemblages in metasedimentary rocks. An apatite U–Pb age of 235.8 ± 1.8 Ma and a pyrite Re-Os age of 254 ± 21 Ma from the nickel mineralization indicate that it formed before the closure of the Ailaoshan Ocean. The As- and S-rich fluids during oceanic subduction leached Ni from the ultramafic rocks in the ophiolite melange forming the hydrothermal nickel sulfide ores. Orogenic gold mineralization comprises auriferous veins that host gold, Au- and Ag-rich sulfosalt. The veins cut the sulfides associated with nickel mineralization. The auriferous fluids reacted with nickel ore-stage pyrite forming porous or sieve-textures and patchy zoning in BSE images with native gold in pores. Geological and paleomagnetic evidence indicates that Miocene gold mineralization occurred in highly deformed Devonian metasedimentary rocks after the Oligocene–Miocene Ailaoshan sinistral shearing (~ 30 to 20 Ma). The auriferous fluids are most likely sourced from the metasomatized mantle lithosphere if Jinchang has a similar source to other orogenic gold deposits in the Ailaoshan Belt. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The Yupo scheelite (Sch)-bearing deposit is hosted in the external contact zones between the Yupo granodiorite and Cambrian Huangdongkou Formation of South China. The stratiform ore bodies contain hedenbergitic pyroxene (Hd 23–69) and andradite-poor garnet (Ad 0–22) assemblages, indicating that Yupo is a typical reduced W skarn deposit. The garnet compositions are zoned in a deposit scale inwardly from the periphery of the grossular-rich skarn reaction front to more subcalcic compositions. Scheelite occurs mainly as disseminated grains in the skarn coeval with retrograde alteration (Sch I) and in quartz veins crosscutting skarns (Sch II-1, -2, and -3). Sch II-1 occurs as cores rimmed by Sch II-2, and Sch II-3 as veinlet cutting both of them. The Sch I and Sch II-3 show weak Eu anomalies different from the pronounced positive Eu anomalies of Sch II-1 and -2. All the scheelite contains low Mo contents (<0.1 wt%), together with the subordinate precipitation of molybdenite, indicating a reduced ore-forming fluid system. The Mo content and Eu anomaly jointly reveal that the reducing condition enhanced from Sch I to Sch II-1 and alleviated from Sch II-1 to Sch II-3. The four scheelite generations show gradually increased initial 87Sr/86Sr ratios from 0.7144 to 0.7242, which are higher than that of the magmatic apatite (0.7082–0.7127) and the carbonate rocks (0.7104–0.7109). The Cambrian carbonaceous shale is a high (87Sr/86Sr) i endmember that interacted with the initial ore-forming fluid; continuing interaction was deemed to enhance the reduction of the ore-forming fluid from Sch I to Sch II-1. Weakening of the intensity of fluid-rock interaction with carbonate rocks during vein-type mineralization caused the (87Sr/86Sr) i values of the scheelite to increase gradually. The input of meteoric water decreased the fluid reduction capability during the formation of Sch II-1 to Sch II-3. Fluid-rock interaction dominated the scheelite mineralization of the reduced W skarn deposit. The consumption of the Changning–Menglian Palaeo-Tethys ocean in the Triassic formed the Lincang granitic batholith in the southwestern China, once the oceanic supra-subduction zone. The batholith provides us a critical window to understand the nature of the crustal basements and the process of Palaeo-Tethyan termination. Here we report zircon U-Pb ages and Hf isotopes, and whole-rock elements and Sr-Nd isotopes of granitic samples from the central part of the Lincang batholith. The geochemical results reveal two genetic types of granites indicated by low-K and high-K affinities, respectively. The Group 1 low-K granitoids dated at 237–229 Ma are low-K calc-alkaline and metaluminous to peraluminous (A/CNK = 0.75–1.29), with K2O contents of 0.13–1.33 wt%, K2O/Na2O ratios of 0.03–0.30, Rb/Sr ratios < 0.18, and initial 87Sr/86Sr = 0.71693 and εNd(t) = −10.8. In contrast, the Group 2 high-K granitoids dated at 239–200 Ma are calc-alkaline and peraluminous (A/CNK = 1.02–1.20), with higher K2O contents (3.15–4.7 wt%), K2O/Na2O ratios (1.15–2.00) and Rb/Sr ratios (0.77–2.62), and more enriched isotopic compositions (initial 87Sr/86Sr = 0.73129 to 0.74037, εNd(t) = −13.1 to −11.0) as well as highly negative zircon εHf(t) values of −16.8 to −6.7. The formation time of these granitoids is compatible with that of the post-collision of the Palaeo-Tethys, subsequently to the magmatic gap (250–240 Ma) coupling with the syn-collision stage. The magmatic source discriminations suggest that the low-K granitoids were derived from partial melting of the dehydrated low-K amphibolite source and the high-K granitoids were dominantly from the psammitic source with minor mantle-derived magma involvement. Using the geochemical variations of the granitic rocks related to the Palaeo-Tethyan closure, we reveal melting of multiple crustal sources rather than a sole source to construct the Lincang batholith.
