Abstract

The lasing characteristics of Tm:LuAG at room temperature are reported. The maximum output power at 2.023-μm wavelength is 4.91 W and the slope efficiency is 25.39%. The mode matching between pump mode and laser mode is optimized by changing the pump beam waist radius and its location. Different output couplers are used to realize the optimal laser output. The relationship between operation temperature and output power is also discussed.

Abstract

A periodically poled lithium niobate (PPLN) optical parametric generator (OPG) pumped by a laser diode (LD)-pumped Q-switched Tm,Ho:GdVO4 laser operated at 2.048 micron with pump pulse of 25 ns and repetition rate of 10 kHz is reported. A continuous tunable middle-infrared (mid-IR) spectrum of 3.88~4.34 micron is obtained by changing the crystal temperature from 50 to 124 centigrade. When the incident pump power is 3 W, the total OPG output power is 95 mW, corresponding to optical conversion efficiency of 3.2%.

Abstract

Optical paranetic oscillators (OPO) are attractive sources of coherent radiation in application for which laser sources are unavailable or for which wide tunability is needed. For samples, they can be used as mid-IR. countermeasure sources in military applications and can be applied into difference absorption lidar operating in the range of 2 ~ 14 μ m to monitor environment, medical diagnosis and treatment, material processing, scientific instrument, optical communication, low-light imaging, atmospheric aberration for astronomy and satellite tracing, optical signals processing, communication and imaging in water, remote sensing and identification biological materials. Many nonlinear frequency-conversion crystals such as lib3O5(LBO), KTiOPO4(KTP), β-BaB2O4 have been used in OPO devices. KTP is one of the best nonlinear frequency-conversion crystals, and it has high nonlinear coefficient, high damage threshold, easily-polished surface, and a broad transparency range[1,2]. So, Here, we focus our interest to KTP OPO.

Abstract

A diode-pumped injection-seeded Q-switched Tm,Ho:YAlO3 (Tm,Ho:YAP) laser was demonstrated in this paper. Using a single-longitudinal-mode Tm,Ho:YAP microchip laser at 2130.7 nm as the seed laser, a single-frequency and nearly transform-limited operation of the frequency-locked pulsed laser was achieved by injection seeding. The frequency-locked pulse laser output energy of 2.8 mJ at 100 Hz with a pulse width of 289 ns was obtained. We measured the pulse spectrum, the full width at half maximum (FWHM) of which was 4.5 MHz, by a heterodyne technique.

Abstract

In this paper, we reported a 1,938 nm Tm:YAP slab laser pumped by two fiber coupled diode lasers, the maximum output power was 48.1 W at the incident pump power of 140 W, corresponding to the optical-to-optical efficiency of 34.4 % and slope efficiency of 43.6 %. The wavelength was selected at 1,938.8 nm by two etalons inserting in the cavity and the laser linewidth was 0.17 nm. The beam quality factors of $$M^{2}$$ were measured to be 3.5, 4.1 and 4.2 at the output power of 10, 25 and 35 W, respectively. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
