159. Properties of quantum correlations in the Yang-Baxter spin-1/2 chain mode

Abstract

Quantum correlations among different parts of a composite quantum system are the fundamental resource of several applications in quantum information. In general, quantum discord can measure quantum correlations. In that way, the quantum correlations in the Yang-Baxter spin-1/2 chain mode are investigated. In the second part of the paper, the Yang-Baxter spin-1/2 chain modes are constructed from the Yang-Baxter equation. First, we analyze the two matrix representations of Temperly-Lieb algebra. Second, the two solutions of the Yang-Baxter equation are generated using the Yang-Baxterization. Finally, we can change the usual two-particle spin-1/2 chain to the Yang-Baxter spin-1/2 chain modes by means of the unitary Yang-Baxter matrix-R. In the third part, the density matrices of the two chain modes are generated in the thermal equilibrium state in a canonical ensemble. According to the definition of the geometric measure of quantum discord, the analytical expressions of the geometric measure of quantum discord, in the temperature and the external magnetic field, are obtained for the Yang-Baxter spin-1/2 chain modes. When the temperature and the magnetic field intensity increase, the geometric measure of quantum discord decreases. Under the specific conditions, the result of the second chain mode is similar to that of the first one. Then we obtain the numerical results of quantum discord, the geometric measure of quantum discord, and concurrence. It is found that the concurrence can quickly decrease to the value of zero when the temperature is greater than the value of one. At the same time, quantum discord and the geometric measure of quantum discord are not of the value of zero. Thus the quantum discord and the geometric measure of quantum discord can go beyond the concept of entanglement and obtain the “quantumness” of the correlations between the two parts of a system for the Yang-Baxter spin-1/2 chain modes. They are very good quantum resources for quantum information and quantum computing.

160. Separation of Armchair SWNTs by Using Polymer Conformation Guided Assembly

Abstract

Isolation of single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWNTs) remains to be a key step for realization of the true potential of SWNTs, since the physical properties of SWNTs are dependent on the tube s chirality index (n, m). Polymers with enhanced helical conformation are found to be an efficient sorting mechanism for SWNTs, as the cavity of polymer s helical conformation can be tailored to facilitate an intimate interaction between polymer and SWNTs. Poly[(m-phenylenevinylene) (PmPV) demonstrates that the polymer helical conformation can be controlled to sort the SWNTs by their diameters. Poly[(m-phenyleneethynylene)-alt-(p-phenyleneethynylene)] (PPE) reveals the intriguing selectivity toward tube (6,5), illustrating the impact of carbon-carbon triple bonds on the SWNTs selectivity. In another approach, polyethyleneimine (PEI) is found to exhibit selective interaction with semiconducting SWNTs. By using this property, cellulose impregnated with PEI is found to be a column packing materials for separation of metallic SWNTs from a raw HiPco sample. Analysis by AFM, 2D fluorescence and UV-vis-NIR absorption spectra suggests that the metallic SWNTs (13,4) can be separated from the armchair SWNTs (10,10) and (9,9)., The original document contains color images. Abstract

The fast switchable Fresnel zone lens with relatively high efficiency and easy fabrication procedure was studied in this article. As compared with ordinary Fresnel zone plate (FZP), our proposed Fresnel zone lens (see FIG. 1) had double light intensity at the focal point, thus possessed double efficiency of ordinary FZP.

Abstract

The recent work of Delabaere and Trinh (2000 J. Phys. A 33 8771) discovered the existence of ${\cal P}{\cal T}$-symmetry breaking, complex energy, $L^2$ solutions for the one dimensional Hamiltonian, $P^2+iX^3+i��X$, in the asymptotic limit, $��\to -\infty$. Their asymptotic analysis produced questionable results for moderate values of $��$. We can easily confirm the existence of ${\cal P}{\cal T}$-symmetry breaking solutions, by explicitly computing the low lying states, for $|��| < O (10)$. Our analysis makes use of the Multiscale Reference Function (MRF) approach, developed by Tymczak et al (1998 Phys. Rev. Lett. 80 3678; 1998 Phys. Rev. A 58, 2708). The MRF results can be validated by comparing them with the converging eigenenergy bounds generated through the Eigenvalue Moment Method, as recently argued by Handy (2001a,b). Given the reliability of the MRF analysis, its fast numerical implementation, high accuracy, and theoretical simplicity, the present formalism defines an effective and efficient procedure for analyzing many related problems that have appeared in the recent literature., Submitted to J. 171. Quantum Fisher information and spin squeezing in the interaction system of light and matter

Abstract

Fisher information is an important concept in estimation theory, which has recently been found closely related with the criteria of the entanglement in quantum information. Under the condition of non-rotating wave approximation, the classical phase space of the Dicke model displays chaotic dynamic properties. This paper studies the quantum Fisher information and the dynamic properties of spin squeezing in the interaction system of light and matter described in the Dicke model. Results reveal that, in the short-time instant state, wherever the initial state is, in a regular region or a chaotic region, the system displays entanglement; but in the long-time stable state, when the initial state is in the regular region, the system entanglement disappears, however, when the initial state is in the chaotic region, the system is always entangled. Compared with the spin-squeezing dynamic properties of the system, Fisher information is found to be able to effectively characterize quantum chaos. On further examination on the dynamic evolvement properties of the density matrix and purity of the system when in the regular and chaotic regions, we find that chaos gives rise to decoherence of the system, showing that quantum information become more sensitive to chaos.

Abstract

We study the entanglement properties in a one-dimensional Ising chain with a tilted magnetic field that is capable of showing both integrable and nonintegrable behaviors. Here the pairwise entanglement is characterized by concurrence and the multipartite entanglement is characterized by the Q measure. According to the entanglement properties of the ground state in the Ising mode, which have tilt angle, we can find that the Q measure decreases with the increasing of the strength of external field. And the phase transition property of the system is changed with the increase of tilt angle for the external magnetic field. We also consider the evolution of entanglement in this model, and find that the nonintegrability can suppress the pairwise entanglement but promotes the multipartite entanglement with the integrable system.
