Abstract

Guided by ad-content congruence literature, arousal-biased competition (ABC) model, and motivated cognition framework, this research examined the effectiveness of peripherally placed advertising in online video content. Specifically, two studies were conducted to explore the interplay between arousal generated from the contextual video and thematic ad-content congruence on ad memory and evaluation of in-video overlay advertisements. Results revealed that in a calm context, thematic incongruence was associated with better encoding and storage of ad information but no differences in ad attitudes or purchase intentions, whereas in an arousing context, thematically congruent ads (vs. incongruent ads) led to better encoding and storage, as well as greater processing fluency, which, in turn, resulted in more favorable ad attitudes and greater purchase intentions. Abstract

This study examined how humor (incongruity humor vs. no humor) interacts with individual differences in perceived efficacy to influence health attitudes and behavioral intentions. Results of a controlled experiment (N = 294) revealed that among individuals with lower levels of perceived efficacy, incongruity humor, relative to no humor condition, resulted in greater source liking, which in turn, enhanced their attitudes and intentions to perform preventive health behaviors. However, for individuals higher in perceived efficacy, incongruity humor (vs. no humor) had an indirect negative effect on intentions via decreased attitudes. Abstract

From 2015 to 2019, samples of surface mud from the bottom of the artificial lake in Tianjin Normal University were collected for diatom analysis and identification in May and June. 1296 diatoms were identified and divided into 25 species. DAIpo (Diatom Assemblage Index to organic water pollution) was calculated: 56 in 2015, 76 in 2017, 58 in 2018 and 63 in 2019. In 2017, it was β-oligosaprobic, and in 2015, 2018 and 2019, it belonged to α-oligosaprobic. The Jinyaoshi Lake is an artificial lake where groundwater is exposed by artificial excavation, and its water source mainly comes from groundwater, then by precipitation. It shows that the pollution degree of the Jinyaoshi Lake was not serious since 2015, and its pollution level was α or β-oligosaprobic.

Abstract

Diatom analysis was conducted on the surface sediments from the estuaries of the new Yongding River and Haihe River in Tianjin. The results showed that the main diatom assemblages in the new Yongding River was Navicula marina-Auliscus caelatus-Coscinodiscus hirosakiensis-Coscinodiscusoculus-iridis and Auliscus caelatus- Coscinodiscusoculus-iridis-Cyclotella meneghiniana-Cyclotella stylorum in the Haihe River. There was saprophilous taxa, Cyclotella meneghiniana, in both estuaries indicating that the two estuaries were polluted to a certain degree.

188. Radar: Reliable Resource Scheduling for Composable/Disaggregated Data Centers

Abstract

Hardware disaggregation decouples resources (e.g., processors and memory) from monolithic servers, potentially improving service reliability. However, from another perspective, directly exposing resource modules to a shared network may adversely affect service reliability. In this article, we study a reliable resource allocation problem in disaggregated data centers, considering network impact and different disaggregation scales. We provide a mixed-integer linear programming formulation and a resource allocation framework named Radar for this problem. The numerical results demonstrate that the benefits of hardware disaggregation may be adversely affected by an imperfect network. It also shows that both the hardware backup and a proposed migration-based restoration can be applied to overcome this potential adverse effect.

Abstract

Background Exploration of adaptive evolution of organisms in response to environmental change can help to understand the evolutionary history of species and the underlying mechanisms of adaptation to local environments, thus guiding future conservation programmes. Before the introduction of Apis mellifera in China, eastern honey bees (Apis cerana) were the only species used for beekeeping in this region. In the mountains of Changbai, populations of A. cerana are considered a distinct ecotype of the species which formed through the distinct selective pressures in this area over time. Result We performed a measure of 300 wing specimens of eastern honey bees and obtained the geometric morphological variation in the wing of A. cerana in Changbai Mountain. A total of 3,859,573 high-quality SNP loci were yielded via the whole-genome resequencing of 130 individuals in 5 geographic regions. Conclusion Corresponding geometric morphology and population genomics confirmed the particularity of the A. cerana in Changbai Mountain. Genetic differentiation at the subspecies level exists between populations in Changbai Mountain and remaining geographic regions, and a significant reduction in the effective population size and an excessive degree of inbreeding may be responsible for a substantial loss of population genetic diversity. Candidate genes potentially associated with cold environmental adaptations in populations under natural selection were identified, which may represent local adaptations in populations. Our study provided insights into the evolutionary history and adaptation of A. cerana in Changbai Mountain, as well as its conservation.
