Abstract

Unlike powdery transition metal oxide (TMO) coated electrodes, self‐supported TMO electrodes have attracted considerable interests for optimizing the electrocatalytic performances of electrodes due to sufficient exposure of active sites and improved TMO‐substrate interfaces. However, conventional manufacture methods for self‐supported electrodes are faced with inefficiency and high complexity. Herein, a facile sonochemical surface reconstruction approach is proposed to fabricate Cl‐doped Cu2O@Cu foam (Cl‐Cu2O@Cu) electrode with ultrahigh sensitivity for glucose sensing. The intensive collapse of cavitation bubbles near Cu foam under sonication within NH4Cl solution, for this reason, massive Cu complex ions and highly active Cu surfaces are simultaneously generated. Then the nanosized Cu2O particles with large active surfaces are in situ formed and tightly anchored on the Cu surface, which undergoes Cl doping in Cu2O, resulting in ascending electrical conductivity. The Cl‐Cu2O@Cu electrode shows excellent catalytic performance to glucose, presenting ultrahigh sensitivity of 28 mA cm−2 × 10−3 m and ultralow limit of detection of 0.35 × 10−6 m (S/N = 3). Abstract

The effect of growth pressure on the properties of β-Ga2 O3 thin films epitaxial on c-plane sapphire substrate with 6° oblique cut angle by plasma-assisted molecular beam epitaxy were systematically studied. All of the epitaxial films present (201) orientated single-crystalline structure with smooth surface morphology. In addition, the crystalline quality and growth rate increase gradually with the increase of the growth pressure, as demonstrated by X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy characterizations. According to the X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy measurement results, the percentage of oxygen vacancy and Ga3+ oxidation states decrease and increase, respectively, with increasing growth pressure, resulting in the increment of atomic ratio of O to Ga. Moreover, through the calculation of Tauc formula and Urbach tail model, the results show that the optical band gap of the films increase from 4.94 eV to 5.00 eV, while Urbach energy decreases from 0.47 eV to 0.32 eV. These results suggest that the crystal quality and optical property of β-Ga2O3 were improved by increasing the growth pressure. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

To combat the COVID-19 virus, extensive studies are being conducted on contactless alternative methods for measuring body temperature and detecting whether masks are being worn. This study investigated a system that employed ZYNQ-7020 as the main controller. The accurate non-contact measurement of a persons body temperature was realized by the calibration and compensation of infrared sensor data collected by an MLX90614 thermopile. In addition, OpenCV and a convolutional neural network (CNN) algorithm were used for face image recognition and to detect whether a person was wearing a mask. A mask detection algorithm was developed based on high-level synthesis and implemented by Python productivity for Zynq (PYNQ). The PYNQ test results were output through a high-definition multimedia interface. Users could also view the real-time human body temperature and face image recognition results through the web. The system achieved a temperature measurement distance of 30 cm, with a measurement error of ± 0.3 ◦C and measurement range of 2560 ◦C. The system also had an alarm function with a buzzer that could be used for an over-temperature alert. The algorithm used the characteristics of field programmable gate array parallel computing to improve the CNN calculation in image processing. A variety of optimization strategies were implemented to achieve hardware acceleration, which improved the mask recognition rate. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

Much attention has been paid on studies of astaxanthin accumulation process in Haematococcus pluvialis industry. However, growth of H. pluvialis in motile vegetative stage is still the most important and problematic part in the whole cultivation process, such as low growth rate and cell yields. Motile vegetative cells are extremely sensitive to various stresses which make it difficult to maintain the cells of this state to grow. Previous reports showed that motile vegetative cells may have higher biomass yields if applied monochromatic red light. However, metabolic responses of these cells are not completely understood, which constraints application of this illumination protocol in industry. The aim of this study was to examine how critical biochemical changes of H. pluvialis motile vegetative cells were affected by red light when compared with white light. Variation of photosynthetic pigments composition and lipids were mainly studied. By comparing growth process of cultures in red light and white light, prominent variation of pigments composition and lipids changes were observed. The results showed that, even though cell proliferation was the same during exponential growth phase, variation of photosynthetic pigment composition and lipids occurred. The final biomass of cell number was higher in red light group than in white light group. The variations were significant different. Increase or decrease of major photosynthetic membrane lipids to some extent did not influence photosynthesis of the vegetative cells during this phase. However, vegetative cells under polychromatic white light other than monochromatic red light need further metabolic process to adjust its pigment composition and lipids, possibly this is energetically and biochemically unfavorable for motile vegetative cells to growth under white light, a light condition normally not considered as a stress.
