Abstract BLDCMs are widely used in automotive, industrial and intelligent equipment fields due to their high power density, simple control, and good dynamic performance. However, its non‐sinusoidal characteristics have brought problems such as turn‐off phase freewheeling to the research and application of BLDCM DTC. This paper proposes the definition, particular characteristic analysis, selection scheme and realization method of the voltage vector, especially the novel zero‐voltage vector. Based on the novel zero‐voltage and twelve‐sector vector selection switch table, an improved PWM modulation strategy in a single cycle is proposed to cooperate with them to achieve the reduction of torque ripple. Finally, the correctness and feasibility of the proposed voltage vector and control strategy theory are verified by a series of experiments.

Abstract The widely used stainless steels and their deformed variants are anticorrosive in ambient conditions due to passivation layers composed of chromium oxides. Conventionally, corrosion and erosion of the steels are attributed to the breakdown of such layers but seldomly to the origin that depends on surface heterogeneity at the microscopic level. In this work, the nanometer-scaled chemical heterogeneity at the surface unveiled via spectro-microscopy and chemometric analysis unexpectedly dominates the breakdown and corrosion behavior of the cold-rolled Ce-modified 2507 super-duplex stainless steels (SDSS) over its hot-deformed counterpart. Though relatively uniformly covered by a native Cr2O3 layer revealed by X-ray photoemission electron microscopy, the cold-rolled SDSS behaved poorly in passivity because of locally distributed Fe3+ rich nano-islands over the Fe/Cr oxide layer. This atomic-level knowledge provides a deep understanding of corrosion of stainless steel and is expected to benefit corrosion controls of similar high-alloyed metals.

Desymmetrization of achiral building blocks is one of the most efficient ways to access enantiopure compounds of synthetic relevance. Here, the authors desymmetrize glutarimides with alcohols via an imide C–N bond cleavage under NHC organocatalysis.

Abstract To improve clinical outcomes and shorten the vein-to-vein time of chimeric antigen receptor T (CAR-T) cells, we developed the FasT CAR-T (F-CAR-T) next-day manufacturing platform. We report the preclinical and first-in-human clinical studies evaluating the safety, feasibility, and preliminary efficacy of CD19 F-CAR-T in B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (B-ALL). CD19 F-CAR-T cells demonstrated excellent proliferation with a younger cellular phenotype, less exhaustion, and more effective tumor elimination compared to conventional CAR-T cells in the preclinical study. In our phase I study (NCT03825718), F-CAR-T cells were successfully manufactured and infused in all of the 25 enrolled pediatric and adult patients with B-ALL. CD19 F-CAR-T safety profile was manageable with 24% grade 3 cytokine release syndrome (CRS) and 28% grade 3/4 neurotoxicity occurring predominantly in pediatric patients. On day 14, 23/25 patients achieved minimal residual disease (MRD)-negative complete remission (CR), and 20 subsequently underwent allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (allo-HSCT) within 3 months post F-CAR-T therapy. Fifteen of 20 patients were disease-free with a median remission duration of 734 days. One patient relapsed and 4/20 died from transplant-related mortality. Of the three patients who did not undergo allo-HSCT, two remained in CR until 10 months post-F-CAR-T. Our data indicate that anti-CD19 FasT CAR-T shows promising early efficacy for B-ALL. Further evaluations in larger clinical studies are needed.

Abstract. Around 450 cases of acute severe hepatitis of unknown origin in children have been reported in 21 countries and region globally since April 2022, which has exceeded the past annual incidences of related regions, and has aroused wide concern. Affected patients were predominantly children under 16 years of age, presented with symptoms of acute hepatitis with markedly elevated liver enzymes, and had been ruled out of common viral infections such as hepatitis A, B, C, D, and E. Similar cases have not been reported in China yet. However, considering that the severe acute hepatitis has involved worldwide areas, still with unknown origin, and incidences of severity is relatively high, we formulated this recommendation to standardize diagnosis and treatment of acute severe hepatitis of unknown origin in Peking Union Medical College Hospital, to get fully prepared to the possible public health events.

Inclinedweb box girders are widely used in urban areas because of their attractive appearance. However, there are few studies on the vehicle shear force distribution of this type of bridge. In this study, we established 62 three-dimensional finite element models in which the shear force of each web of the box girder can be extracted; furthermore, we investigated the shear force distribution law in webs of the box girder under live loads, including single-chamber and multichamber inclined web box girders. The main parameters studied include the number of vehicle lanes and chambers, slope of the inclined webs, and support conditions. The results reveal that an uneven distribution of web shear force exists in both the single-chamber box girder and multichamber girder under live loads, and the maximum value of the vehicle shear force distribution factor is greater than the average shear value shared by all webs. Therefore, the uneven distribution of shear force in the webs of the box girder cannot be ignored under eccentric vehicle loads. These values greatly exceed the safety factor of 1.15 that is used in conventional calculations.

Thermodynamic calculation is the theoretical basis for the study of initiation and detonation, as well as the prerequisite for forecasting the detonation performance of unknown explosives. Based on the VLWR(Virial-Wu) thermodynamic code, this paper introduced the universal solid equation of state (EOS) VINET. In order to truly reflect the compressibility of nanocarbon under the extremely high-temperature and high-pressure environment in detonation, an SVM (support vector machine) was utilized to optimize the input parameters of carbon. The detonation performance of several explosives with different densities was calculated by the optimized universal EOS, and the results show that the thermodynamic code coupled with the universal solid EOS VINET can predict the detonation performance parameters of explosives well. To investigate the application of the thermodynamic code with the improved VINET EOS in the working capacity of explosives, the interrelationship between pressure P-particle velocity u and pressure P-volume V were computed for the detonation products of TNT and HMX-based PBX (HMX: binder: insensitive agent = 95:4.3:0.7) in the CJ isentropic state. A universal curve proposed by Cooper was used to compared the computed isentropic state, where the ratio of pressure to CJ state were plotted against the ratio of velocity to CJ state. The parameters of the JWL(Jones-Wilkins-Lee) EOS for detonation products were obtained by fitting the P–V curve. The cylinder tests of TNT and HMX-based PBX were numerically simulated using the LS-DYNA, it is verified that, within a certain range, the improved algorithm has superiority in describing the working capacity of explosives.

Abstract. Background:. Non-smokers account for a large proportion of lung cancer patients, especially in Asia, but the attention paid to them is limited compared with smokers. In non-smokers, males display a risk for lung cancer incidence distinct from the females—even after excluding the influence of smoking; but the knowledge regarding the factors causing the difference is sparse. Based on a large multicenter prospective cancer screening cohort in China, we aimed to elucidate the interpretable sex differences caused by known factors and provide clues for primary and secondary prevention. Methods:. Risk factors including demographic characteristics, lifestyle factors, family history of cancer, and baseline comorbidity were obtained from 796,283 Chinese non-smoking participants by the baseline risk assessment completed in 2013 to 2018. Cox regression analysis was performed to assess the sex difference in the risk of lung cancer, and the hazard ratios (HRs) that were adjusted for different known factors were calculated and compared to determine the proportion of excess risk and to explain the existing risk factors. Results:. With a median follow-up of 4.80 years, 3351 subjects who were diagnosed with lung cancer were selected in the analysis. The lung cancer risk of males was significantly higher than that of females; the HRs in all male non-smokers were 1.29 (95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.20–1.38) after adjusting for the age and 1.38 (95% CI: 1.28–1.50) after adjusting for all factors, which suggested that known factors could not explain the sex difference in the risk of lung cancer in non-smokers. Known factors were 7% (|1.29–1.38|/1.29) more harmful in women than in men. For adenocarcinoma, women showed excess risk higher than men, contrary to squamous cell carcinoma; after adjusting for all factors, 47% ([1.30–1.16]/[1.30–1]) and 4% ([7.02–6.75]/[7.02–1])) of the excess risk was explainable in adenocarcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma. The main causes of gender differences in lung cancer risk were lifestyle factors, baseline comorbidity, and family history. Conclusions:. Significant gender differences in the risk of lung cancer were discovered in China non-smokers. Existing risk factors did not explain the excess lung cancer risk of all non-smoking men, and the internal causes for the excess risk still need to be explored; most known risk factors were more harmful to non-smoking women; further exploring the causes of the sex difference would help to improve the prevention and screening programs and protect the non-smoking males from lung cancers.

Abstract Cerebral malaria is the most serious complication of malaria infection, with 26% of surviving children having neurological sequelae, which may be caused by neuron damage, but the mechanism is not clear. Ferroptosis has been reported to play an important role in neuron damage in several nervous system diseases. However, the occurrence of ferroptosis in experimental cerebral malaria (ECM) pathogenesis is still unknown. In this study, we firstly detected increased levels of malondialdehyde (MDA) and iron, which are indicators of ferroptosis, in the cerebrum of ECM mice. Some important regulators of ferroptosis, including upregulated expression of transferrin receptor 1 (TfR1) and acyl-CoA synthetase long-chain family member 4 (ACSL4), and downregulation of glutathione peroxidase 4 (GPX4) levels, were also confirmed in ECM mice. Consistently, neuron damage, which was detected in the cerebrum of ECM mice, was positively correlated with reduced GPX4 expression and furtherly rescued by administration of the ferroptosis inhibitor ferrostatin-1 (Fer-1). In addition, primary neurons were damaged by activated CD8+ T cells, an effect that was also partially rescued by Fer-1 on amyloid precursor protein expression and mitochondrial membrane potential levels in vitro. Activated CD8+ T cells were also shown to infiltrate the cerebrum of ECM mice and upregulate TfR1 expression in primary neurons, which may be an important event for inducing ferroptosis in ECM. Altogether, we show that ferroptosis contributes to neuron damage in ECM pathogenesis, and activated CD8+ T cells may be important inducers of neuronal ferroptosis. Hence, targeting ferroptosis may be a promising adjuvant therapeutic strategy for neurological sequelae in patients with cerebral malaria.

To accurately predict the locations and trajectories of shock wave triple points in near-ground explosions, this study determined the propagation law of shock waves after the initiation of a detonator using a schlieren system. Moreover, it established a numerical simulation model using the Autodyn software and verified the accuracy of the model through a detonator explosion experiment. The propagation law of shock waves of TNT charges (1, 10 ​kg and 100 ​kg) at different heights of burst(0.5, 1.0, 1.5, 2.0 ​m,and 2.5 ​m) was studied through numerical simulations, and the triple point trajectories were fitted to an empirical formula. The results show that the maximum simulation error relative to the schlieren images of detonator explosions did not exceed 4 ​mm. As the scaled height of burst decreased, the positions of generated triple points were closer to the vertical projection of the explosion center and rose faster. As the scaled distance increased, the scaled height of triple points rose exponentially. The average error of triple point trajectories between the values predicted in this study and the experimental values was 4.1%, indicating that the accuracy of the fitted formula is acceptable. This study revealed the overpressure distribution law of shock waves and will provide a reference for shock wave overpressure measurements and explosion protection.

Abstract Background Acute fibrinous and organizing pneumonia (AFOP) is a rare clinicopathological condition. Studies in the literature have reported that AFOP may be associated with respiratory infections, such as respiratory syncytial virus, influenza virus, Pneumocystis jirovecii, Penicillium citrinum, and Chlamydia infections. However, AFOP associated with Legionella infection has not been reported previously. Here, we report a case of a patient with AFOP secondary to Sjögren’s syndrome and Legionella infection. Case presentation A 47-year-old man was admitted to the hospital because of fever, expectoration, and shortness of breath. Lung imaging showed irregular patchy consolidation. A diagnosis of Legionella pneumonia was initially considered on the basis of the patient’s history of exposure to soil before disease onset, signs of extrapulmonary involvement, and a positive Legionella urine antigen test result. However, the patient’s symptoms and lung imaging did not improve after treatment with levofloxacin, moxifloxacin, and tigecycline for Legionella infection. In addition, Sjögren’s syndrome was diagnosed on the basis of clinical manifestations and immunological indicators. Pathological changes associated with AFOP were confirmed from the results of ultrasound-guided percutaneous lung biopsy. The patient’s clinical symptoms improved rapidly after a short course of low-dose corticosteroid therapy, and lung imaging showed significant improvement. Conclusions The possibility of secondary AFOP should be considered when Legionella pneumonia does not improve after standard antibiotic therapy. Lung biopsy and histopathological examination are important for the adjustment of treatment strategy. Our case also highlights the importance of screening for autoimmune diseases in patients with AFOP.

In order to improve the applicability of herringbone gear modification results， it is necessary to analyze the sensitivity of gear surface modification parameters. Using Romax software， genetic algorithm is used to carry out the optimal modification of tooth profile， drum shape and topology， and the modification deformation momentum is superimposed on the optimal modification. Then considering the center distance installation error， the bearing transmission error amplitude and the maximum contact stress of the pinion are analyzed respectively. Finally， the sensitivity analysis of the change of modification parameters to transmission error and contact stress is obtained. The results show that the load transmission error amplitude is sensitive to the tooth profile modification parameters， but not to the drum shape modification parameters； after the optimal modification of the tooth profile， the bearing transmission error is not sensitive to the center distance installation error， but the drum shape modification is vice versa； the sensitivity of load-bearing transmission error amplitude to topological modification parameters is between tooth profile and drum shape modification. When the tooth profile modification is much greater than the drum shape modification， the load-bearing transmission error amplitude is not sensitive to the center distance installation error.

Fu tea is receiving increasing attention for its specific aroma, flavor, and dramatic functional benefits. Herein, we explored the effects and underlying mechanisms of Fu loose tea (FLT), Fu brick tea (FBT), and diet pills (orlistat) on a high-fat diet (HFD)-induced obesity. The results indicated that FLT and FBT administration effectively inhibited weight gain, glucose metabolic dysregulation, fat accumulation in organs, hepatic and kidney injury, and oxidative stress induced by HFD. Additionally, FLT and FBT treatments improved the lipid profiles and reduced the production of proinflammatory cytokines by regulating the expression levels of lipid metabolism- and inflammation-related genes. Furthermore, FLT and FBT ameliorated the gut microbiota dysbiosis in HFD-mice in a dose-dependent relationship by increasing the abundance of family Verrucomicrobiaceae and genus Akkermansia and Turicibacter and simultaneously reducing the abundance of family Erysipelotrichaceae and genus Bifidobacterium; in contrast, orlistat did not exert a regulatory effect on gut microbiota similar to FLT and FBT to improve HFD-induced obesity. KEGG analysis of gut microbiota annotation revealed that “metabolism” was the most enriched category. This study further provides a theoretical basis for FLT and FBT to be potential supplements to alleviate diet-induced obesity.

Titanium and titanium alloys are key basic support materials in the field of engineering technology and high technology, and are widely used in the fields of natural gas transportation, chemical corrosion, and marine development. Titanium alloy ingots are often prepared with more solidification defects such as surface cracks and cold shuts, resulting in lower utilization of titanium metal and higher cost of titanium products. The root of this is the lack of in-depth knowledge of the ingot melting and casting process, and the failure to control the thermal conditions of the billet in the molding process within a reasonable range. In this study, based on the Lagrange Euler algorithm, combined with ProCAST finite element software to establish a numerical model, revealing the solid–liquid interface morphology, the length of the transition region, and the change rule of thermal stress under the influence of different process parameters in the solidification process of titanium slab ingot. The results show that with the increase in pulling speed, the depth of the solid–liquid phase line and the width of the mushy zone of slab ingot increase, and the length of the transition region grows. With the increase in casting temperature, the depth of the solid–liquid phase line of the slab ingot decreases, and the mushy zone gradually becomes narrower. The casting temperature and pulling speed are positively correlated with the value of the thermal stress equivalent stress in slab ingots, and the probability of cracks in the corners and ingot surface is higher. This study provides effective theoretical guidance for the realization of stable mass production of high-quality titanium slab ingot.

Microalgae could utilize the nutrients in the environment and therefore are widely used in wastewater treatment. The variety and complexity of phosphates in the water column and different types of wastewater can affect the growth of microalgae, which further affects the treatment efficiency of phosphorus- containing wastewater. In this study, phosphate uptake and microalgal growth were investigated under different phosphate conditions. The results showed that the increase of phosphate concentration could promote the growth of microalgae. Phosphate species affected the phosphate uptake and transformation process. Orthophosphate and polyphosphate were first adsorbed on the surface of microalgae and then transported inside the cell. Polyphosphates produce desorption in the early stages of uptake. The adsorbed polyphosphates were released back into the culture medium and were taken up and utilized again in the later stages of incubation. Polyphosphates were taken up and utilized by microalgae for a longer period of time than orthophosphates. It was also found that orthophosphate was more readily utilized by microalgae compared to polyphosphate. An increase in phosphate concentration promotes the growth of microalgae.

Fu brick tea (FBT), a product of microbial fermentation from primary dark tea, also known as raw material tea (RMT), has been extensively studied for its functional properties. However, its potential as a staple food supplement for weight loss remains poorly understood. This study compared the weight loss effects of orlistat, traditional plain noodles (NN), and noodles supplemented with varying amounts of RMT (RMTN) and FBT (FBTN), with the aim to elucidate their lipid-reducing effects and underlying mechanisms. Experimental trials on high fat diet fed mice revealed significant weight loss, lipid-lowering, and hypoglycemic effects upon supplementation with orlistat, RMTN, and FBTN. Moreover, supplementation with orlistat, RMTN, and FBTN effectively restored serum and liver-related index levels, mitigating high-fat diet-induced dyslipidemia. Additionally, these supplements ameliorated liver and kidney damage by inhibiting oxidative stress and inflammatory responses. Furthermore, orlistat, RMTN, and FBTN exert their anti-obesity effects primarily by modulating genes associated with lipid metabolism and inflammatory responses and through regulation of the composition and structure of the gut microbiota. Importantly, FBTN demonstrated a significantly stronger lipid-lowering effect compared to RMTN, particularly at higher tea addition ratios. In contrast, NN supplementation exhibited minimal to no weight loss effects. Based on these findings, it could be inferred that FBT holds promise as a staple food supplement to ameliorate high-fat diet-induced obesity and its associated health conditions.

Four new compounds, including two ascochlorin-type meroterpenoids acremocholrins A (1) and B (2), one pyridone alkaloid acremopyridone A (7), and one cyclopentenone derivative acremoketene A (12), together with eight known compounds (3–6 and 8–11), were isolated and identified from the hadal trench-derived fungus Acremonium dichromosporum YP-213. Their structures were determined with a detailed spectroscopic analysis of NMR and MS data, NOE analysis, octant rule and quantum chemical calculations of ECD, and NMR (with DP4+ probability analysis). Among the compounds, 7 represent a novel scaffold derived from a pyridone alkaloid by cleavage of the C-16-C-17 bond following oxidation to give a ketone. Compounds 9, 11, and 12 showed potent in vivo anti-inflammatory activity in transgenic zebrafish, while compound 8 exhibited significant proangiogenic activity in transgenic zebrafish.

The roughskin sculpin (Trachidermus fasciatus) is an endangered fish species in China. In recent years, artificial breeding technology has made significant progress, and the population of roughskin sculpin has recovered in the natural environment through enhancement programs and the release of juveniles. However, the effects of released roughskin sculpin on the genetic structure and diversity of wild populations remain unclear. Studies on genetic diversity analysis based on different types and numbers of molecular markers have yielded inconsistent results. In this study, we obtained 2,610,157 high-quality SNPs and 494,698 InDels through whole-genome resequencing of two farmed populations and one wild population. Both farmed populations showed consistent levels of genomic polymorphism and a slight increase in linkage compared with wild populations. The population structure of the two farmed populations was distinct from that of the wild population, but the degree of genetic differentiation was low (overall average Fst = 0.015). Selective sweep analysis showed that 523,529 genes were selected in the two farmed populations, and KEGG enrichment analysis showed that the selected genes were related to amino acid metabolism, which might be caused by artificial feeding. The findings of this study provide valuable additions to the existing genomic resources to help conserve roughskin sculpin populations.

Abstract Background Screening with low‐dose computed tomography (LDCT) is an efficient way to detect lung cancer at an earlier stage, but has a high false‐positive rate. Several pulmonary nodules risk prediction models were developed to solve the problem. This systematic review aimed to compare the quality and accuracy of these models. Methods The keywords “lung cancer,” “lung neoplasms,” “lung tumor,” “risk,” “lung carcinoma” “risk,” “predict,” “assessment,” and “nodule” were used to identify relevant articles published before February 2021. All studies with multivariate risk models developed and validated on human LDCT data were included. Informal publications or studies with incomplete procedures were excluded. Information was extracted from each publication and assessed. Results A total of 41 articles and 43 models were included. External validation was performed for 23.2% (10/43) models. Deep learning algorithms were applied in 62.8% (27/43) models; 60.0% (15/25) deep learning based researches compared their algorithms with traditional methods, and received better discrimination. Models based on Asian and Chinese populations were usually built on single‐center or small sample retrospective studies, and the majority of the Asian models (12/15, 80.0%) were not validated using external datasets. Conclusion The existing models showed good discrimination for identifying high‐risk pulmonary nodules, but lacked external validation. Deep learning algorithms are increasingly being used with good performance. More researches are required to improve the quality of deep learning models, particularly for the Asian population.

Despite the common challenge of investigating non-metallic inclusions within ultra-high-strength-steel (UHSS) at sub-micrometer scale via conventional methods, probing nitride inclusions at elevated temperatures is vital for guiding steel’ performance. Herein, an in-situ spectro-microscopic determination using advanced Synchrotron X-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS) coupled with photoelectron emission microscopy (PEEM) is employed to explore the local structure and electronic properties of selective h-boron nitride (h-BN) containing inclusions (A1 and A2) embedded within steel matrix. While the variation in the relative intensity of π∗/σ∗ excitonic peaks at spatially different locations refers to the polarization and or thickness effects. Several minute features observed in the 192–195 eV energy range show oxygen (O) substituted nitrogen (N) defects (ON,2N,3N), which are more dominant in A2 inclusion. The observed dominance further explains the relatively high intense π∗ peak in A2 due to increased localization. Weak shoulder on the left side of π∗ peak in both room and high-temperature XAS spectra is ascribed to the interaction between h-BN and the local environment, such as Ca-based inclusion or steel matrix. Defects are commonly found in h-BN, and precise identification of the same is vital as they affect the overall physical, chemical, and mechanical properties. Moreover, significant changes in high-temperature B K-edge XAS spectra, such as relative intensity of π∗/σ∗ excitonic peaks at the same location and reduced intensity of defects, suggest the adjusting nature of BN inclusion, complicating their precise prediction and control towards clean steel production.

Abstract Long non-coding RNAs (LncRNAs) play important roles in the development of human esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC). Our previous studies have shown that knockdown of LncRNA ESCCAL-1 expression inhibits the growth of ESCC cells, but the mechanisms remain largely unknown. In this study, we show that over-expression of ESCCAL-1 promotes ESCC cell proliferation and cell-cycle progression by blocking ubiquitin-mediated degradation of an oncoprotein galectin-1 (Gal-1). Multiple LncRNA expression datasets as well as our own data together reveal that ESCCAL-1 is evidently up-regulated in ESCC tissues and exhibits promising diagnostic value. Over-expression of ESCCAL-1 augmented ESCC cell proliferation and cell-cycle progression, whereas down-regulation of ESCCAL-1 resulted in the opposite effects. Mechanistically, LncRNA ESCCAL-1 directly binds to Gal-1 and positively regulates its protein level without affecting its mRNA level. Up-regulation of Gal-1 facilitated ESCC cell proliferation and cell-cycle progress. Knockdown of Gal-1 mitigated the effects of ESCCAL-1-mediated high cellular proliferation, NF-κB signaling activation and tumorigenicity of ESCC cells. Thus, our findings provide novel insight into the mechanism by which ESCCAL-1 facilitates ESCC tumorigenesis and cell-cycle progression by interacting with and stabilizing Gal-1 protein, suggesting a potential therapeutic target for ESCC.

The repair of articular cartilage defects is still challenging in the fields of orthopedics and maxillofacial surgery due to the avascular structure of articular cartilage and the limited regenerative capacity of mature chondrocytes. To provide viable treatment options, tremendous efforts have been made to develop various chondrogenically-functionalized biomaterials for cartilage tissue engineering. Peptides that are derived from and mimic the functions of chondroconductive cartilage extracellular matrix and chondroinductive growth factors, represent a unique group of bioactive agents for chondrogenic functionalization. Since they can be chemically synthesized, peptides bear better reproducibility, more stable efficacy, higher modifiability and yielding efficiency in comparison with naturally derived biomaterials and recombinant growth factors. In this review, we summarize the current knowledge in the designs of the chondroinductive/chondroconductive peptides, the underlying molecular mechanisms and their-functionalized biomaterials for cartilage tissue engineering. We also systematically compare their in-vitro and in-vivo efficacies in inducing chondrogenesis. Our vision is to stimulate the development of novel peptides and their-functionalized biomaterials for cartilage tissue engineering.

The catalytic domains in nonribosomal peptide synthetases (NRPSs) are responsible for a choreography of events that elongates substrates into natural products. Here, the authors present cryo-EM structures of a siderophore-producing dimeric NRPS elongation module in multiple distinct conformations, which provides insight into the mechanisms of catalytic trajectory.

Summary: Obstructive uropathy from nephrolithiasis remains a leading cause of end-stage kidney disease. Mechanisms of kidney fibrosis after relief of ureteral obstruction represent opportunities for therapeutic intervention. Here, in mouse models of ureteral obstruction, we have combined methods of virus tracing and optogenetic techniques to identify an overactive central pathway in the paraventricular nucleus (PVN)-rostral ventrolateral medulla (RVLM) that determines the fibrotic fate of kidney after relief of the obstruction. The overactive pathway is driven by kidney afferent nerves that activate angiotensin II signaling in RVLM-projecting PVN neurons to drive sympathetic discharge back to the kidney. This causes the kidney to undergo fibrosis with loss of function. Blockade of sympathetic traffic or deletion of AT1a in PVN preserves the structure of the post-obstructed kidney. Human post-obstructed kidneys also demonstrate evidence of increased sympathetic nerve activity associated with a fibrotic outcome. Manipulating these neural elements is a potential treatment strategy.

Twenty-one novel ester tethered artemisinin-isatin hybrids were designed, synthesized and screened against human myeloid leukemia cell lines (K562 and K562/ADR), human acute lymphoblastic leukemia cell line (CCRF-CEM) as well as normal human peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) for their cytotoxicity by 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide (MTT) assay. The structure-activity relationships (SARs) were also discussed to facilitate further rational design of more effective candidates. The preliminary results showed that most of the ester tethered artemisinin-isatin hybrids (IC50: 0.32-29.35 µM) exhibited promising activity against CCRF-CEM cells, and some of them (IC50: 1.23-49.84 µM) were also active against K562 and K562/ADR human myeloid leukemia cell lines. Among them, hybrid 7d (IC50: 0.32, 2.67 and 1.23 µM) not only possessed profound activity against the three tested leukemia cell lines and excellent safety and selectivity profiles, but also showed promising pharmacokinetic properties. Accordingly, hybrid 7d could be considered as a potential lead molecule for the development of novel anti-leukemic agents with minimal untoward events to normal human cells.

Summary: Dysregulated amino acid increases the risk for heart failure (HF) via unclear mechanisms. Here, we find that increased plasma tyrosine and phenylalanine levels are associated with HF. Increasing tyrosine or phenylalanine by high-tyrosine or high-phenylalanine chow feeding exacerbates HF phenotypes in transverse aortic constriction and isoproterenol infusion mice models. Knocking down phenylalanine dehydrogenase abolishes the effect of phenylalanine, indicating that phenylalanine functions by converting to tyrosine. Mechanistically, tyrosyl-tRNA synthetase (YARS) binds to ataxia telangiectasia and Rad3-related gene (ATR), catalyzes lysine tyrosylation (K-Tyr) of ATR, and activates the DNA damage response (DDR) in the nucleus. Increased tyrosine inhibits the nuclear localization of YARS, inhibits the ATR-mediated DDR, accumulates DNA damage, and elevates cardiomyocyte apoptosis. Enhancing ATR K-Tyr by overexpressing YARS, restricting tyrosine, or supplementing tyrosinol, a structural analog of tyrosine, promotes YARS nuclear localization and alleviates HF in mice. Our findings implicate facilitating YARS nuclear translocation as a potential preventive and/or interfering measure against HF.

Purpose/backgroundMicrosatellite instability (MSI) status is a significant biomarker for the response to immune checkpoint inhibitors, response to 5-fluorouracil-based adjuvant chemotherapy, and prognosis in colorectal carcinoma (CRC). This study investigated the predictive value of intratumoral-metabolic heterogeneity (IMH) and conventional metabolic parameters derived from 18F-FDG PET/CT for MSI in patients with stage I–III CRC.MethodsThis study was a retrospective analysis of 152 CRC patients with pathologically proven MSI who underwent 18F-FDG PET/CT examination from January 2016 to May 2022. Intratumoral-metabolic heterogeneity (including heterogeneity index [HI] and heterogeneity factor [HF]) and conventional metabolic parameters (standardized uptake value [SUV], metabolic tumor volume [MTV], and total lesion glycolysis [TLG]) of the primary lesions were determined. MTV and SUVmean were calculated on the basis of the percentage threshold of SUVs at 30%–70%. TLG, HI, and HF were obtained on the basis of the above corresponding thresholds. MSI was determined by immunohistochemical evaluation. Differences in clinicopathologic and various metabolic parameters between MSI-High (MSI-H) and microsatellite stability (MSS) groups were assessed. Potential risk factors for MSI were assessed by logistic regression analyses and used for construction of the mathematical model. Area under the curve (AUC) were used to evaluate the predictive ability of factors for MSI.ResultsThis study included 88 patients with CRC in stages I–III, including 19 (21.6%) patients with MSI-H and 69 (78.4%) patients with MSS. Poor differentiation, mucinous component, and various metabolic parameters including MTV30%, MTV40%, MTV50%, and MTV60%, as well as HI50%, HI60%, HI70%, and HF in the MSI-H group were significantly higher than those in the MSS group (all P < 0.05). In multivariate logistic regression analyses, post-standardized HI60% by Z-score (P = 0.037, OR: 2.107) and mucinous component (P < 0.001, OR:11.394) were independently correlated with MSI. AUC of HI60% and our model of the HI60% + mucinous component was 0.685 and 0.850, respectively (P = 0.019), and the AUC of HI30% in predicting the mucinous component was 0.663.ConclusionsIntratumoral-metabolic heterogeneity derived from 18F-FDG PET/CT was higher in MSI-H CRC and predicted MSI in stage I–III CRC patients preoperatively. HI60% and mucinous component were independent risk factors for MSI. These findings provide new methods to predict the MSI and mucinous component for patients with CRC.

BackgroundEarly detection of kidney diseases can be challenging as conventional methods such as blood tests or imaging techniques (computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), or ultrasonography) may be insufficient to assess renal function. A single-photon emission CT (SPECT) renal scan provides a means of measuring glomerular filtration rates (GFRs), but its diagnostic accuracy is limited due to its planar imaging modality and semi-quantification property. In this study, we aimed to improve the accuracy of GFR measurement by preparing a positron emission tonometry (PET) tracer 68Ga-Ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (68Ga-EDTA) and comprehensively evaluating its performance in healthy mice and murine models of renal dysfunction.MethodsDynamic PET scans were performed in healthy C57BL/6 mice and in models of renal injury, including acute kidney injury (AKI) and unilateral ureter obstruction (UUO) using 68Ga-EDTA. In a 30-min dynamic scan, PET images and time-activity curves (TACs) were acquired. Renal function and GFR values were measured using renograms and validated through serum renal function parameters, biodistribution results, and pathological staining.Results68Ga-EDTA dynamic PET imaging quantitatively captured the tracer elimination process. The calculated GFR values were 0.25 ± 0.02 ml/min in healthy mice, 0.01 ± 0.00 ml/min in AKI mice, and 0.25 ± 0.04, 0.29 ± 0.03 and 0.24 ± 0.01 ml/min in UUO mice, respectively. Furthermore, 68Ga-EDTA dynamic PET imaging and GFRPET were able to differentiate mild renal impairment before serum parameters indicated any changes.ConclusionsOur findings demonstrate that 68Ga-EDTA dynamic PET provides a reliable and precise means of evaluating renal function in two murine models of renal injury. These results hold promise for the widespread clinical application of 68Ga-EDTA dynamic PET in the near future.

BackgroundSeminal plasma plays a pivotal role in modulating sperm viability and function. However, the underlying mechanisms have not been fully elucidated.MethodIn this study, the bull semen production records of core breeding farms and bull stations in the past 10 years were analyzed.ResultsWe found that the semen of 5-year-old bulls collected for the first time is of the best quality (p < 0.05). Despite the bull semen collected under the above conditions, low-quality sperm is still obtained from part of bulls due to individual differences. Interestingly, seminal plasma from normal semen is capable of improving low-quality semen motility. To identify the potential key factors in seminal plasma, the differences in miRNA and metabolite profiles between normal and low-quality seminal plasma were analyzed. We found that 59 miRNAs were differently expressed, including 38 up-regulated and 21 down-regulated miRNAs. Three hundred and ninety-one and 327 significantly different metabolites were identified from the positive and negative ion models, respectively. These multiple miRNAs and metabolites collectively contribute to the motility of sperm, subsequently, affect semen quality.DiscussionTogether, these results not only revealed the critical factors of seminal plasma improving sperm quality but also provided potential miRNA- or metabolite-based biomarkers to identify the high semen quality.

Short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs) are metabolites of gut microbes that can modulate the host inflammatory response, and contribute to health and homeostasis. Since the introduction of the gut-skin axis concept, the link between SCFAs and inflammatory skin diseases has attracted considerable attention. In this review, we have summarized the literature on the role of SCFAs in skin inflammation, and the correlation between SCFAs and inflammatory skin diseases, especially atopic dermatitis, urticaria, and psoriasis. Studies show that SCFAs are signaling factors in the gut-skin axis and can alleviate skin inflammation. The information presented in this review provides new insights into the molecular mechanisms driving gut-skin axis regulation, along with possible pathways that can be targeted for the treatment and prevention of inflammatory skin diseases.

Thrombocytopenia following allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (allo-HSCT) is a common and life-threatening complication. Thus, new prevention and treatment strategies for post-HSCT thrombocytopenia are urgently required. In recent studies, thrombopoietin receptor agonists (TPO-RA) for treating post-HSCT thrombocytopenia indicated efficiency and safety. The improved effect of post-HSCT thrombocytopenia in adults was found in the administration of avatrombopag which was a new TPO-RA. However, there was no relevant study in the children's cohort. Herein, we retrospectively analyzed the effect of avatrombopag in post-HSCT thrombocytopenia in children. As a result, the overall response rate (ORR) and complete response rate (CRR) were 91% and 78%, respectively. PurposeTo evaluate the correlation between microvascular density (MVD) and intravoxel incoherent motion (IVIM) magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) parameters and the effect of glycolytic flux after transarterial chemoembolization (TACE) in a rabbit VX2 liver tumor.Materials and methodsVX2 liver tumor allografts in 15 New Zealand white rabbits were treated with sterile saline (control group, n = 5) or lipiodol-doxorubicin emulsion (experimental group, n = 10). MRI was performed 2 weeks after the procedure to evaluate IVIM parameters, including apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC), pure diffusion coefficient (D), pseudodiffusion coefficient (D*), and perfusion fraction (PF). All animal samples were taken of the tumor and surrounding liver. Immunostaining for CD31, CD34, CD105, and VEGF was used to evaluate MVD. The protein expression of Glut4, HK2, PKM2, LDHA, and MCT1 was determined using western blotting. Pearson correlation tests were used to analyze the relationship between MVD and IVIM parameters.ResultsD* value in the peritumoral region was negatively correlated with CD34 (r = –0.71, P = 0.01). PF value positively correlated with CD34 (r = 0.68, P = 0.015), CD105 (r = 0.76, P = 0.004) and VEGF (r = 0.72, P = 0.008) in the peritumoral region. Glut4, HK2, PKM2, and MCT1 in the peritumoral regions were higher in the experimental group than in the control group (all P < 0.05).ConclusionIVIM parameters were correlated with MVD in the intratumoral and peritumoral regions after TACE in a rabbit liver tumor model. The angiogenesis reflected by MVD may be related to changes of glycolytic flux.

Plasticizers are common additives used to enhance the flexibility and workability of polymer materials. Recent findings suggest a great potential for typical plasticizers being used as rejuvenators to recycle oxidized paving asphalts. This study investigated the rejuvenating effectiveness of two plasticizers via rheological evaluation and explored the underlying mechanism by analytical characterizations and molecular dynamics (MD) simulations. A conventional plasticizer dibutyl phthalate (DBP) and an environmentally friendly tributyl citrate (TBC) were selected given the discrepancies in their molecular structures. Both plasticizers were effective in restoring the rheological performance of the aged asphalt; TBC was relatively more efficient which was attributed to its higher molecular polarity and the formation of hydrogen bonds with the oxidized asphalt molecules. Analyses based on the gel permeation chromatography and differential scanning calorimetry suggested the capability of the plasticizers in dissociating the oxidized asphalt molecules and improving the molecular mobility. The improved molecular mobility was considered responsible for the reversing effect of the plasticizers, as compared to aging, in terms of widening the relaxation spectrum and broadening the glass transition region. The plasticizers’ dissociating effect was confirmed and visualized in the simulations by inspecting their impacts on the spatial arrangement and distribution of the asphaltenes.

Abstract The intrinsic charge carriers’ recombination and excited states decay greatly suppress the active species survival and photo(electro)catalytic performance. Inspired by Z‐scheme strategy, the polymeric nitrogen‐rich carbon nitride/cadmium sulfide (g‐C3N5/CdS) core–shell heterojunction is constructed to optimize photocatalytic performance. The optimal hydrogen production rate of g‐C3N5/CdS heterojunction catalyst under visible light without adding extra cocatalyst is up to 7860 µmol h−1 g−1, which is 3 and 71 times higher than that of pure CdS and g‐C3N5 photocatalysts, respectively. The femtosecond transient absorption spectroscopy is employed to observe the kinetic decay of carriers in the heterojunction, revealing the ultrafast charge trapping process (τ1 = 52.3 ps) and long‐lived excited states (τ3 = 1109.2 ps) in g‐C3N5/CdS photocatalyst. Meanwhile, density functional theory calculation results comprehensively suggest the promoted charge separation in heterojunction. Cost‐effective Z‐scheme g‐C3N5/CdS photocatalyst in this work shows a great potential for sustainable and high‐efficiency solar‐to‐H2 conversion.

Postmenopausal osteoporosis (POP) is a chronic disease of bone metabolism that occurs in middle-aged and elderly women. POP can cause abnormalities of the skeletal system in the whole body, and the jaw bone is also impacted, affecting the function of the oral and maxillofacial regions. Mandibular bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (MBMSCs) play an important role in mandibular bone metabolism, and abnormal differentiation of MBMSCs can affect the metabolic balance between new and old bone. MicroRNAs (miRNAs) can induce the differentiation of MBMSCs. In this study, the changes in biological characteristics of mandible and MBMSCs in the bone microenvironment of postmenopausal osteoporosis were firstly analyzed, and then the key miRNAs screened from miRNAs gene chips were sorted out for verification and functional exploration. It was found that miR-344d-3p promoted the osteogenic differentiation of MC3T3-E1 and MBMSCs. It inhibited the adipogenic differentiation of 3T3-L1 and MBMSCs. In addition, Dnmt3a may be the target gene of miR-344d-3p. In conclusion, this study found new biological indicators related to bone metabolism, which are of great significance in the field of bone reconstruction.

With the outbreak of COVID-19, more online learning has been adopted for distance learning. However, the effectiveness of online learning for those students engaged in it for the first time has not been discussed. This study aims to investigate perceived ineffectiveness of online learning and its antecedents related to cognitive and affective factors. Internet self-efficacy (ISE) and Self-efficacy of interacting with learning content (SEILC) were hypothesized to have a correlation with perceived ineffectiveness of online learning (PIOL) mediated by participating Internet cognitive fatigue (ICF) and mind-unwandered, and that ICF was hypothesized to have a correlation with mind-unwandered. Data of 251 students collected from high schools in China during the lockdown period of COVID-19 were subjected to confirmatory factor analysis via AMOS. Results indicated that participants’ ISE and SEILC were positively related to mind-unwandered, but negatively related to ICF during online learning; ICF was positively associated with PIOL; on the other hand, mind-unwandered was negatively associated with PIOL. Furthermore, students’ ISE and SEILC indirectly affect their PIOL mediated by ICF. Findings suggest that an enhancement of learners’ ISE and SEILC could reduce the level of PIOL the first time that online learners were under the COVID-19 lockdown to promote learning effectiveness. This understanding will be useful in case of another pandemic outbreak.

The problem of integrated scheduling of supply chains has a huge impact on operational efficiency and cost effectiveness. Increasing number of the nodes, different time window constraints for customers, and a variety of uncertain scenarios complicate supply chain scheduling. In the study a multi-objective multi-period mixed-integer programming optimization model was developed. We comprehensively considered the effects of demand uncertainty, time window constraints, constraints of node capability, and multi-period and sub-period factors. The conflicting benefit factors, cost and service level are the two optimization objectives. The first objective function aims to minimize the total cost in all periods. The second objective function considers service level by minimizing the material flow of out-of-stock items in all periods to maximize service level. Suppliers’ capacity, selection of suppliers, manufacturers’ productivity, transaction relationship, sub-period time, inventory capacity and lead time for delivery are also considered. Subsequently the total costs and service levels are normalized, whose sum is the objective function. The problem was transformed into a multi-period non-linear optimization problem. An improved mixed Genetic Algorithm was designed to solve the model. Finally, the practicability of the proposed model and algorithm is demonstrated through its application to an electronics supply chain case study. The results indicate that the proposed model and algorithm can provide a promising approach for fulfilling a multi-objective multi period integrated scheduling plan under uncertain demand scenarios.

With the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic, the problem of supply chain emergency scheduling has had a great influence on economic benefits of enterprises. The uncertainty of the COVID-19 pandemic and uncertainty of supply chain have made the problem of emergency scheduling more complicated. In this study, a multiobjective multiperiod mixed-integer programming optimization model was developed, in which two conflicting benefit factors, cost and service level were taken as the optimization target of the model. Cost and service level were normalized, and the weighted sum was taken as the objective function, which transformed the problem into a multiperiod nonlinear one. Two algorithms of Bi-level Modified Hybrid Genetic Algorithm (BMHGA) and Bi-level Hybrid Genetic Algorithm (BHGA) were designed to solve the model. Three emergency strategies have been proposed, including enabling alternative suppliers, repairing failure nodes and enabling internal suppliers’ flexibility. The parameter of disruption scenario and its solution method were designed. Finally, the practicability of the proposed model and algorithm was demonstrated through application to a case study of an electronics supply chain. The results indicated that the optimal solution of two algorithms was between 2%-5%, and BMHGA could obtain a better optimal solution.

The epitaxial lateral growth of single-crystal diamond (SCD) using a plate-to-plate microwave plasma chemical vapor deposition (MPCVD) reactor under high pressure is investigated. The radicals’ distribution in H2/CH4 plasma as a function of pressure was locally detected by optical emission spectroscopy (OES). Raman spectroscopy and optical microscope were employed to analyze the properties of SCD deposited in different pressure. The OES results show that radicals’ distribution along the substrate direction is symmetrical under 20 kPa pressure. The symmetrical distribution of radicals at 20 kPa is in favor of epitaxial lateral growth SCD around the seed and without polycrystalline diamond (PCD) rim. When the pressure is increased to 21.5 kPa, the optical emission spectra center of plasma shifts close to the microwave reflector where is far away from the microwave source. The contact state between the diamond seed and the plasma is deteriorated and the PCD rim occurs in the plasma uncovered area. While the epitaxial lateral growth pattern occurs in the plasma covered area and the lateral growth rate of this region improves with the increase of pressure. A higher growth rate does not result in good quality; meanwhile, the diamond growth step spacing and direction become inconsistent in the transition zone as a function of pressure increasing. Finally, the overall effective lateral expansion area does not increase with the improvement of pressure. Therefore, the uniform and symmetrical distributed plasma is more conducive to the epitaxial lateral growth of SCD, and the effective expansion growth SCD can be realized at 20 kPa.

For the problem of strong randomness in space-time characteristics of wind speed in complex mountains，in order to improve the accuracy of wind speed data prediction, a neural network wind speed prediction algorithm based on multi prediction model and nonlinear combination was proposed.In the first layer of the algorithm, the grey wolf optimizer (GWO) and the dynamic convergence factor were used to improve the whale optimization algorithm (WOA), and the improved WOA was applied to the updating process of BPNN weights and bias items.At the same time, the improved whale optimiza-tion algorithm of back propagation neural network (IWOABP), ELM and LSTM three complementary single methods were constructed to build a combination prediction method, and on this basis, the ELM mixing mechanism of the second layer of the algorithm was utilized to learn the relationship between the first layer and the final result in a non-linear way.Simulation results show that compared with BPNN, WNN and GWOBP, the proposed algorithm has lower prediction errors.

Abstract Low-temperature germinability (LTG) is an important agronomic trait that can affect the planting time, planting area, and grain yield of staple crops, such as rice. However, the genetic mechanism of LTG is still unclear. In this study, a multi-parental permanent population with 208 single segment substitution lines (SSSLs) was used to conduct a genetic dissection for LTG across four cropping seasons. LTG was a typical quantitative trait with a high combined broad-sense heritability of 0.71. By comparison with the recipient parent, Huajingxian74, 24 SSSLs were identified as carrying LTG QTLs, which were further merged into integrated QTLs with shorter genetic distances by substitution mapping. Finally, 14 LTG QTLs were mapped on ten chromosomes, including seven positive-effect and seven negative-effect QTLs, with additive effect contributions ranging from 19.2 to 39.9%. qLTG3a, a main-effect and novel QTL, was confirmed by bulk segregant analysis using an F2 segregating population, and five key recombinants were selected to develop F3 populations for progeny testing. Marker-trait association analysis fine mapped qLTG3a to a 332.7-kb physical region between markers M6026 and M6341. Within this interval, 40 annotated genes were revealed, and three genes (Os03g0213300, Os03g0214400, and Os03g0214600) were considered as pivotal candidate genes for qLTG3a based on their sequence variations and expression patterns. Besides low temperature, qLTG3a can also enhance seed germination under standard temperature and osmotic stress. In summary, this study identified some genetic factors regulating LTG and opened a new window for breeding elite direct-seeded rice varieties. It will help reduce the climate risk in the production process of rice, which is of great significance to ensuring food security.

Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) is one of the effective means to deal with global warming, and saline aquifer storage is considered to be the most promising storage method. Junggar Basin, located in the northern part of Xinjiang and with a large distribution area of saline aquifer, is an effective carbon storage site. Based on well logging data and 2D seismic data, a 3D heterogeneous geological model of the Cretaceous Donggou Formation reservoir near D7 well was constructed, and dynamic simulations under two scenarios of single-well injection and multi-well injection were carried out to explore the storage potential and CO2 storage mechanism of deep saline aquifer with real geological conditions in this study. The results show that within 100 km2 of the saline aquifer of Donggou Formation in the vicinity of D7 well, the theoretical static CO2 storage is 71.967 × 106 tons (P50)①, and the maximum dynamic CO2 storage is 145.295 × 106 tons (Case2). The heterogeneity of saline aquifer has a great influence on the spatial distribution of CO2 in the reservoir. The multi-well injection scenario is conducive to the efficient utilization of reservoir space and safer for storage. Based on the results from theoretical static calculation and the dynamic simulation, the effective coefficient of CO2 storage in deep saline aquifer in the eastern part of Xinjiang is recommended to be 4.9%. This study can be applied to the engineering practice of CO2 sequestration in the deep saline aquifer in Xinjiang.

CO2 geological storage combined with saline recovery (CO2-EWR) is considered to be one of the effective storage methods. Taking the lead in carrying out CO2-EWR technology in the eastern Junggar of Xinjiang can achieve CO2 emission reduction and mean while produce saline water, which can alleviate the local water resources shortage problem to a certain extent, and obtain dual benefits of environment and economy. Previous research mainly focused on generalized models, and the support of engineering practices is lacking. Based on the evaluation results of the suitability of CO2 source - sink matching in the eastern Junggar Basin and the geological data of the first CO2-EWR field pilot test site in China, a 3D heterogeneous model of the Xishanyao Formation of the CO2-EWR test site in the eastern Junggar Basin is constructed to study the potential of the CO2-EWR technology. The results show that the the oretical storage capacity of CO2 at the test site is 1.72 × 106 (P50) tons, and the dynamic storage capacity is 2.14 × 106 tons. When the CO2-EWR technology is adopted, the CO2 dynamic storage capacity can reach 11.18 × 106 tons, which is 5.22 times the CO2 geological storage only, and may increase the production of the saline water resources by 10.17 × 106 tons with a mass ratio of 1 to 0.91 of CO2 sweeping out saline water. Meanwhile, the CO2-EWR technology can effectively slow down the accumulation of reservoir pressure caused by the massive injection of CO2, improve the efficiency of CO2 storage, and increase the saline water production potential. This study can provide theoretical basis and technical support for the implementation of large-scale CO2 geological storage combined with deep saline water production project in the eastern Junggar of Xinjiang.

Experiments for simultaneous elimination and detoxification of microgram level of As(Ⅲ) in the presence of micromolar H2O2 and Fe(Ⅱ) which are frequently encountered in natural water were conducted. The results showed that the molar ratio of oxidant to As(III) plays important role in As(III) oxidation under the experimental conditions. The extent of As(Ⅲ) oxidation with single H2O2 or Fe(Ⅱ) ranged from 7.9 % to 60.3 % and 22.2–46.6 %, respectively. Treatments with H2O2/As(Ⅲ) molar ratios in the range 150: 1–750: 1 or Fe(Ⅱ)/As(Ⅲ) molar ratios in the range 37.5: 1–375: 1 were more favor for As(Ⅲ) oxidation respectively, and increasing oxidant concentration did not result in complete As(Ⅲ) oxidation. As(Ⅲ) was completely oxidized and eliminated following the precipitation of ferric hydroxides in 5 reaction minutes when H2O2 and Fe(Ⅱ) coexisted in the reaction system. The interface characterization for the reacted precipitates after the experiment were conducted by using a high-resolution field emission scanning electron microscopy (SEM) coupled with an EX-350 energy dispersive X-ray spectrometer (EDX) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), respectively. The results showed that As(Ⅴ) was the merely arsenic species and As oxide primary situated in the subsurface layer of the reacted precipitates, whereas Fe was more concentrated in the outermost surface layer. Our research showed that H2O2 and Fe(Ⅱ) at natural level may exert significant influence on arsenic mobilization in natural water. Considering the much more toxic of As(Ⅲ) than that of As(Ⅴ), the research also provide us an environmental friendly choice in the elimination and detoxification of microgram As(Ⅲ) in drinking water.

BackgroundThe clinical benefits of high-dose intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIg) in treating COVID-19 remained controversial.MethodsWe systematically searched databases up to February 17, 2022, for studies examining the efficacy of IVIg compared to routine care. Meta-analyses were conducted using the random-effects model. Subgroup analysis, meta-regression, and trial series analysis w ere performed to explore heterogeneity and statistical significance.ResultsA total of 4,711 hospitalized COVID-19 patients (1,925 IVIg treated and 2786 control) were collected from 17 studies, including five randomized controlled trials (RCTs) and 12 cohort studies. The application of IVIg was not associated with all-cause mortality (RR= 0.89 [0.63, 1.26], P= 0.53; I2 = 75%), the length of hospital stays (MD= 0.29 [-3.40, 6.44] days, P= 0.88; I2 = 96%), the needs for mechanical ventilation (RR= 0.93 ([0.73, 1.19], P= 0.31; I2 = 56%), or the incidence of adverse events (RR= 1.15 [0.99, 1.33], P= 0.06; I2 = 20%). Subgroup analyses showed that overall mortality among patients with severe COVID-19 was reduced in the high-dose IVIg subgroup (RR= 0.33 [0.13, 0.86], P= 0.02, I2 = 68%; very low certainty).ConclusionsResults of this study suggest that severe hospitalized COVID-19 patients treated with high-dose IVIg would have a lower risk of death than patients with routine care.Systematic review registrationhttps://www.crd.york.ac.uk/prospero/display_record.php?ID=CRD42021231040, identifier CRD42021231040.

Empathy involves both empathic ability and empathic motivation. An important topic has been how to measure empathic ability and motivation simultaneously in both clinical and non-clinical samples and across different cultures. The Empathy Components Questionnaire (ECQ) is a self-report questionnaire that measures empathic ability and motivation in a questionnaire. The current study aimed to validate the Mandarin Chinese version of the ECQ (ECQ-Chinese) in three Chinese samples. In study 1, a total of 538 Chinese participants (Sample 1) completed the ECQ-Chinese via an online survey, and existing measures of empathy and related constructs which were used for criterion validity. In study 2, a total of 104 participants (Sample 2) were recruited again from sample 1 and completed the ECQ-Chinese three weeks later to investigate test-retest reliability. In study 3, a further 324 participants (Sample 3) completed the ECQ-Chinese for confirmatory factor analysis. The results showed that the ECQ-Chinese has a good internal consistency reliability, split-half reliability, and criterion validity (Study 1), and a good test-retest reliability (Study 2). Further, Study 3 found that a 22-item ECQ-Chinese consisting of five subscales had a good construct validity, convergence validity and discriminate validity, demonstrating it to be a suitable tool for the measurement of empathic ability and motivation in Chinese samples and to carry out cross-cultural studies of empathy and its components.
