166. TM and TE propagating modes of photonic crystal waveguide based on honeycomb lattices

Abstract

The waveguide based on the honeycomb photonic crystal has propagating modes for both the TE and TM polarizations. The group index-normalized frequency curves are U-shaped for the two polarizations. The average group index of the TE mode is approximately 3, while the average group index of the TM mode is over 10, which implies that the TM mode is a slow light mode. With the shift value 0 [less than or equal to] [delta]x [less than or equal to] 0.025a, the group index is over 10 and the normalized delay-bandwidth product is from 0.316 to 0.349, which is ideal for the slow light mode of the TM polarization. In the group velocity dispersion of the waveguide, there is a very large 'zero' dispersion region for both the TM and TE modes, which is far larger than that of other photonic crystal waveguides. Abstract

Intramuscular fat (IMF) content is a key determinant of beef quality, making it a key topic of research interest. ATP5B serves as the catalytic component of the mitochondrial ATP synthase complex and plays essential roles in controlling fat contents and oxidative metabolism in bovine skeletal muscle. In this study, we determined that bovine ATP5B was highly expressed in longissimus thoracis. To elucidate the molecular mechanisms involved in bovine ATP5B regulation, we cloned and characterized the promoter region of ATP5B. Applying 5'-rapid amplification of cDNA end analysis (RACE), we identified two transcriptional start sites (TSSs) in its promoter region. Using a series of 5'-deletion promoter plasmids in luciferase reporter assay, we found that the proximal minimal promoter of ATP5B was located within the region −539/220 relative to the TSS. Site-directed mutation in combination with chromatin immunoprecipitation (ChIP) assays demonstrated that MyoD and GATA1 binding to the promoter region drives bovine ATP5B transcription. Taken together, these results provide new insight into the regulatory mechanisms of ATP5B transcription in mediating the IMF content of beef. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

Aphelinus mali (Haldeman) (Hymenoptera: Aphelinidae) is an important specific endoparasitoid of Eriosoma lanigerum (Hausmann) (Hymenoptera: Aphididae) with high natural parasitism in the field. By studying the COI gene of the A. mali mitochondrion, two distinct clades, Shandong and Liaoning clades, were found in China. In this paper, the mitochondrial genome of A. mali populations from Shandong province was sequenced and analyzed. In total, 14415 bp were sequenced, representing 93.5% of the total length of the A. mali mitochondrial genome, with six tRNA, trnY, trnM, trnI, trnQ, trnW, trnS1, not sequenced. The unmeasured area was located in an A+T-rich region of approximately 1000 bp. The AT content in the A+T-rich region was as high as 91.3% and this may be why this region has not been detected until now. The A+T content was 84.4% in the measured region, which is higher than that of other Hymenoptera. The AT skew was 0.1291, the highest AT skew known among Hymenoptera, which might be related to the higher AT content of protein-coding genes, rRNA and RSCU AT content. Transport genes (tRNA) had a secondary clover shaped structure, compared with other Hymenoptera; there is a more incomplete secondary structure, and less base mismatch. The mitochondrial genome of A. mali showed considerable rearrangement when compared with the mitochondrial genome of the most primitive arrangement, mainly concentrated in six tRNA genes and the gene region from cob to trnE and from trnL to nad1. The mitochondrial genome of A. mali is quite different from that of other Hymenoptera as can be demonstrated by constructing a phylogenetic tree. This paper provides a basis for further study of phylogeny, genetic structure, and hybridization of A. mali populations.

176. Effects of Potassium Fulvic Acid and DA-6 on the Growth and Yield of Tomato Cultivated with Rock Wool

Abstract

Potassium fulvic acid and diethyl aminoethyl hexanoate (DA-6) are two kinds of growth regulators with yield increasing and quality improving. There are few reports on the effects of adding potassium fulvic acid and DA-6 in nutrient solution on the growth of soilless culture of vegetables. In this study, tomato was used as the test material to add different concentrations of potassium fulvic acid (0, 15, 30 mg·L-1) and DA-6 (0, 2.5, 5 mg·L-1) into nutrient solution of total nutrient minerals, so as to study the effects of adding two growth-regulating substances to nutrient solution of total nutrient mineral on the growth, yield and quality of tomato in soilless cultivation with rock wool in solar greenhouse. The results showed that: With no addition of potassium fulvic acid and DA-6 as the control, in the early stage of bearing fruit, the potassium fulvic acid added with 30 mg·L-1 nutrient solution alone had an inhibitory effect on tomato plant height and the inhibition could be alleviated by adding DA-6. When 30 mg·L-1 potassium fulvic acid and DA-6 were added together, the fresh quality of single stem and dry quality of single leaf in the early and middle stage of tomato bearing fruit were significantly improved. 15 mg·L-1 potassium fulvic acid and 2.5 mg·L-1 DA-6 had the best effect on the total yield of a single plant, which was 21.77% higher than that of the control. 15 mg·L-1 potassium fulvic acid and DA-6 could significantly increase the C content and sugar acid ratio of tomato fruit. To summarize, 15 mg·L-1 potassium fulvic acid and 2.5 mg·L-1 DA-6 showed synergistic effect, which has the best improvement effect on the growth, yield and quality of best.

177. Study on the Suitable Irrigation Amount of Microporous Membrane Water-Fertilizer Integration of Tomato in Spring in Plastic Greenhouse

Abstract

Water-saving irrigation is an important measure to alleviate the shortage of water resources in China. In this study, the growth, nutrient distribution, quality and yield of Tomato under different irrigation treatments are studied by using microporous membrane water-fertilizer integrated technology and the optimal irrigation water quantity under the condition of microporous membrane water-fertilizer integration was determined. The results show that the stem diameter and the fresh and dry weight of tomato increased under the treatment of microporous membrane irrigation, among which the irrigation of 84 m3.667 m-2 was the best, comparing with the traditional flooding irrigation. Microporous membrane irrigation promotes the accumulation of N, P and K in tomato plants. The organic acid content of tomato fruit was the highest under the treatment of 108 m3.667 m-2 and the lycopene content is the highest under the treatment of 96 m3.667 m-2. However, soluble protein, soluble solids, VC content and sugar acid ratio are the highest under the treatment of 84 m3.667 m-2 and the yield and water use efficiency of tomato are the highest under this treatment. Generally, the optimal irrigation amount of tomato under the condition of microporous membrane water-fertilizer integration is 84 m3.667 m-2. The experiment clarifies the crop water demand characteristics and provides a certain theoretical basis for the application of water-saving irrigation technology and high-yield cultivation.

Abstract

Objectives: To establish Z‐scores for the diameter and blood flow volume of the umbilical vein (UV) in normal fetuses. Methods: This was a prospective study involving 907 normal fetuses. We measured the diameter (Duv) of two different segments of the UV (FUV: the free loop of the UV; FIUV: the fetal intra‐abdominal UV). Next, we calculated the blood flow volume (Quv). Z‐scores were created for both Duv and Quv using gestational age, femur length, and biparietal diameter as independent variables. Results: We successfully acquired 858 (94.6%) normal fetal measurements. Between 20 and 39 weeks, the Duv of the FUV and FIUV increased from 0.38 to 0.80 cm and from 0.33 to 0.70 cm, respectively. The Quv of the FUV and FIUV increased from 32.66 to 381.88 ml/min and from 31.50 to 360.15 ml/min, respectively. Linear or quadratic regression models were best fitted between the parameters of UV and the independent variables. Z‐scores were successfully determined for both the Duv and Quv. Conclusions: The calculation of Z‐scores for the Duv and Quv is simple by applying standard statistical methods. These Z‐scores may be useful to evaluate placental circulation and provide a rationale for monitoring and evaluating the prognosis of fetuses. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
