Abstract

Based on $(2712.4\pm14.1)\times10^{6}$ $\psi(3686)$ events collected with the BESIII detector, we study the decays $h_{c}\to3(\pi^{+}\pi^{-})\pi^{0}$, $h_{c}\to2(\pi^{+}\pi^{-})\omega$, $h_{c}\to2(\pi^{+}\pi^{-})\pi^{0}\eta$, $h_{c}\to2(\pi^{+}\pi^{-})\eta$, and $h_{c}\to p\bar{p}$ via $\psi(3686)\to\pi^{0}h_{c}$. The decay channel $h_{c}\to3(\pi^{+}\pi^{-})\pi^{0}$ is observed for the first time, and its branching fraction is determined to be $\left( {9.28\pm 1.14 \pm 0.77} \right) \times {10^{ - 3}}$, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic. In addition, first evidence is found for the modes $h_{c} \to 2(\pi^{+}\pi^{-})\pi^{0}\eta$ and $h_{c}\to2(\pi^{+}\pi^{-})\omega$ with significances of 4.8$\sigma$ and 4.7$\sigma$, and their branching fractions are determined to be $(7.55\pm1.51\pm0.77)\times10^{-3}$ and $\left( {4.00 \pm 0.86 \pm 0.35}\right) \times {10^{ - 3}}$, respectively. No significant signals of $h_c\to 2(\pi^+\pi^-)\eta$ and $h_{c}\to p\bar{p}$ are observed, and the upper limits of the branching fractions of these decays are determined to be $<6.19\times10^{-4}$ and $<4.40\times10^{-5}$ at the 90% confidence level, respectively., Comment: 11 pages, 3 figures

Abstract

The exploration of whether agents can align with their environment without relying on human-labeled data presents an intriguing research topic. Drawing inspiration from the alignment process observed in intelligent organisms, where declarative memory plays a pivotal role in summarizing past experiences, we propose a novel learning framework. The agents adeptly distill insights from past experiences, refining and updating existing notes to enhance their performance in the environment. This entire process transpires within the memory components and is implemented through natural language, so we character this framework as In-memory Learning. We also delve into the key features of benchmarks designed to evaluate the self-improvement process. Through systematic experiments, we demonstrate the effectiveness of our framework and provide insights into this problem.

Abstract

The integration of deep learning, particularly AI-Generated Content, with high-quality data derived from ab initio calculations has emerged as a promising avenue for transforming the landscape of scientific research. However, the challenge of designing molecular drugs or materials that incorporate multi-modality prior knowledge remains a critical and complex undertaking. Specifically, achieving a practical molecular design necessitates not only meeting the diversity requirements but also addressing structural and textural constraints with various symmetries outlined by domain experts. In this article, we present an innovative approach to tackle this inverse design problem by formulating it as a multi-modality guidance generation/optimization task. Our proposed solution involves a textural-structure alignment symmetric diffusion framework for the implementation of molecular generation/optimization tasks, namely 3DToMolo. 3DToMolo aims to harmonize diverse modalities, aligning them seamlessly to produce molecular structures adhere to specified symmetric structural and textural constraints by experts in the field. Experimental trials across three guidance generation settings have shown a superior hit generation performance compared to state-of-the-art methodologies. Moreover, 3DToMolo demonstrates the capability to generate novel molecules, incorporating specified target substructures, without the need for prior knowledge. This work not only holds general significance for the advancement of deep learning methodologies but also paves the way for a transformative shift in molecular design strategies. 3DToMolo creates opportunities for a more nuanced and effective exploration of the vast chemical space, opening new frontiers in the development of molecular entities with tailored properties and functionalities.

Abstract

Using $(2.712\pm0.014)\times 10^9$ $\psi(3686)$ events collected by the BESIII detector operating at the BEPCII collider, we report the first observation of $\psi(3686)\to 3\phi$ decay with a significance larger than 10$\sigma$. The branching fraction of this decay is determined to be $(1.46\pm0.05\pm0.17)\times10^{-5}$, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic. No significant structure is observed in the $\phi\phi$ invariant mass spectra.

155. Positivity of the Hypergeometric Coon Amplitude

Abstract

We utilize a novel method for the partial-wave unitarity recently suggested in [1] to analyse the hypergeometric Coon amplitude. In this approach we use a new type of harmonic numbers as a basis. Owing to the properties of the harmonic numbers this method bypasses lots of difficulties and can be used to derive a clear and unified form for the partial-wave coefficients. This new approach further streamlines the partial-wave unitarity analysis. As an instance, we re-derive the unitarity bounds from Regge trajectory analysis and find the new critical condition of the hypergeometric Coon amplitude. Our new method also benefits the discussion on the various limits of this amplitude. Abstract

Fiber optic networks are used worldwide and have been regarded as excellent media for transmitting time-frequency (TF) signals. In the past decades, fiber-based TF synchronization techniques have been extensively studied. Instruments based on these techniques have been successfully applied. With the increasing application of TF synchronization instruments, their security has become an important issue. Unfortunately, the security risks of fiber-based frequency synchronization (FbFS) instruments have been overlooked. This paper proposes a frequency tampering method called "frequency lens". On a 200 km fiber link, we demonstrate a frequency tampering scenario using a frequency lens-enabled frequency tampering module (FTM). On the user side, the frequency value of the recovered 100 MHz signal can be stealthily altered within a range of 100 MHz-100 Hz to 100 MHz+100 Hz, while the frequency dissemination stability of the system remains normal. Related to this tampering risk, potential hazards in three different application scenarios, which rely on precise frequency references, are analyzed. Two countermeasures are also proposed to solve this tampering risk.

157. Learning Exposure Correction in Dynamic Scenes

Abstract

Exposure correction aims to enhance visual data suffering from improper exposures, which can greatly improve satisfactory visual effects. However, previous methods mainly focus on the image modality, and the video counterpart is less explored in the literature. Directly applying prior image-based methods to videos results in temporal incoherence with low visual quality. Through thorough investigation, we find that the development of relevant communities is limited by the absence of a benchmark dataset. Therefore, in this paper, we construct the first real-world paired video dataset, including both underexposure and overexposure dynamic scenes. To achieve spatial alignment, we utilize two DSLR cameras and a beam splitter to simultaneously capture improper and normal exposure videos. Additionally, we propose an end-to-end video exposure correction network, in which a dual-stream module is designed to deal with both underexposure and overexposure factors, enhancing the illumination based on Retinex theory. The extensive experiments based on various metrics and user studies demonstrate the significance of our dataset and the effectiveness of our method. 158. Spatial Distribution of Inertial Particles in Turbulent Taylor-Couette Flow

Abstract

This study investigates the spatial distribution of inertial particles in turbulent Taylor-Couette flow. Direct numerical simulations are performed using a one-way coupled Eulerian-Lagrangian approach, with a fixed inner wall Reynolds number of 2500 for the carrier flow, while the particle Stokes number varies from 0.034 to 1 for the dispersed phase. We first examine the issue of preferential concentration of particles near the outer wall region. Employing two-dimensional (2D) Voronoi analysis, we observe a pronounced particle clustering with increasing $St$, particularly evident in regions of low fluid velocity. Additionally, we investigate the concentration balance equation, inspired by the work of johnson et al.(2020), to examine particle radial distribution. We discern the predominant sources of influence, namely biased sampling, turbophoresis, and centrifugal effects. Across all cases, centrifugal force emerges as the primary driver, causing particle migration towards the outer wall. Biased sampling predominantly affects smaller inertial particles, driving them towards the inner wall due to sampling within Taylor rolls with inward radial velocity. Conversely, turbophoresis primarily impacts larger inertial particles, inducing migration towards both walls where turbulent intensity is weaker compared to the bulk. Abstract

We introduce a novel suite of state-of-the-art bilingual text embedding models that are designed to support English and another target language. These models are capable of processing lengthy text inputs with up to 8192 tokens, making them highly versatile for a range of natural language processing tasks such as text retrieval, clustering, and semantic textual similarity (STS) calculations. By focusing on bilingual models and introducing a unique multi-task learning objective, we have significantly improved the model performance on STS tasks, which outperforms the capabilities of existing multilingual models in both target language understanding and cross-lingual evaluation tasks. Moreover, our bilingual models are more efficient, requiring fewer parameters and less memory due to their smaller vocabulary needs. Furthermore, we have expanded the Massive Text Embedding Benchmark (MTEB) to include benchmarks for German and Spanish embedding models. This integration aims to stimulate further research and advancement in text embedding technologies for these languages.

160. Automating Dataset Updates Towards Reliable and Timely Evaluation of Large Language Models

Abstract

Large language models (LLMs) have achieved impressive performance across various natural language benchmarks, prompting a continual need to curate more difficult datasets for larger LLMs, which is costly and time-consuming. In this paper, we propose to automate dataset updating and provide systematic analysis regarding its effectiveness in dealing with benchmark leakage issue, difficulty control, and stability. Thus, once the current benchmark has been mastered or leaked, we can update it for timely and reliable evaluation. There are two updating strategies: 1) mimicking strategy to generate similar samples based on original data, preserving stylistic and contextual essence, and 2) extending strategy that further expands existing samples at varying cognitive levels by adapting Bloom's taxonomy of educational objectives. Extensive experiments on updated MMLU and BIG-Bench demonstrate the stability of the proposed strategies and find that the mimicking strategy can effectively alleviate issues of overestimation from benchmark leakage. In cases where the efficient mimicking strategy fails, our extending strategy still shows promising results. Additionally, by controlling the difficulty, we can better discern the models' performance and enable fine-grained analysis neither too difficult nor too easy an exam can fairly judge students' learning status. To the best of our knowledge, we are the first to automate updating benchmarks for reliable and timely evaluation. Abstract

Using a data sample of $e^+e^-$ collision data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 19 fb$^{-1}$ collected with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider, we search for the production of deuterons and antideuterons via $e^+e^-\to pp\pi^-\bar{d}+c.c.$ for the first time at center-of-mass energies between 4.13 and 4.70 GeV. No significant signal is observed and the upper limit of the $e^+e^-\to pp\pi^-\bar{d}+c.c.$ cross section is determined to be from 9.0 to 145 fb depending on the center-of-mass energy at the $90\%$ confidence level.

Abstract

Using data samples collected with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider at center-of-mass energies ranging from 3.80 to 4.95 GeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 20 fb$^{-1}$, a measurement of Born cross sections for the $e^+e^-\to D^{0}\bar{D}^{0}$ and $D^{+}D^{-}$ processes is presented with unprecedented precision. Many clear peaks in the line shape of $e^+e^-\to D^{0}\bar{D}^{0}$ and $D^{+}D^{-}$ around the mass range of $G(3900)$, $\psi(4040)$, $\psi(4160)$, $Y(4260)$, and $\psi(4415)$, etc., are foreseen. Abstract

In light of the non-perturbative resonance effects that may occur during inflation, we introduce a parametrization for the power spectrum of the stochastic gravitational wave background (SGWB) characterized by narrow-band amplification. We utilize the universal $\Omega_\text{GW}\propto k^3$ infrared limit, applicable to a wide array of gravitational wave sources, to devise a robust yet straightforward parameterization optimized for Markov Chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) analyses. This parameterization is demonstrated through select examples where its application is pertinent, and we discuss the advantages of this approach over traditional parametrizations for narrow-band scenarios. To evaluate the sensitivity of our proposed model parameters, we apply a mock likelihood based on the CMB-Stage4 data. Furthermore, we explicate the computational process for the mapping relationship between the foundational model parameters and our parameterized framework, using a two-field inflation model that resonantly amplifies gravitational waves (GWs) as an example.

Abstract

With a sample of $(10087\pm44)\times10^{6}$ $J/\psi$ events accumulated with the BESIII detector, we analyze the decays $\eta'\rightarrow\pi^+\pi^-l^+l^-(l=e,$ $\mu)$ via the process $J/\psi\rightarrow\gamma\eta'$. The branching fractions are measured to be $\mathcal{B}(\eta'\rightarrow\pi^+\pi^-e^+e^-)=(2.45\pm0.02(\rm{stat.})\pm0.08(\rm{syst.})) \times10^{-3}$ and $\mathcal{B}(\eta'\rightarrow\pi^+\pi^-\mu^+\mu^-)=(2.16\pm0.12(\rm{stat.})\pm0.06(\rm{syst.}))\times10^{-5}$, and the ratio is $\frac{\mathcal{B}(\eta'\rightarrow\pi^{+}\pi^{-}e^{+}e^{-})}{\mathcal{B}(\eta'\rightarrow\pi^{+}\pi^{-}\mu^{+}\mu^{-})} = 113.4\pm0.9(\rm{stat.})\pm3.7(\rm{syst.})$. In addition, by combining the $\eta'\rightarrow\pi^+\pi^-e^+e^-$ and $\eta'\rightarrow\pi^+\pi^-\mu^+\mu^-$ decays, the slope parameter of the electromagnetic transition form factor is measured to be $b_{\eta'}=1.30\pm0.19\ (\mathrm{GeV}/c^{2})^{-2}$, which is consistent with previous measurements from BESIII and theoretical predictions from the VMD model. The asymmetry in the angle between the $\pi^+\pi^-$ and $l^+l^-$ decay planes, which has the potential to reveal the $CP$-violation originating from an unconventional electric dipole transition, is also investigated. The asymmetry parameters are determined to be $\mathcal{A}_{CP}(\eta'\rightarrow\pi^+\pi^-e^+e^-)=(-0.21\pm0.73(\rm{stat.})\pm0.01(\rm{syst.}))\%$ and $\mathcal{A}_{CP}(\eta'\rightarrow\pi^+\pi^-\mu^+\mu^-)=(0.62\pm4.71(\rm{stat.})\pm0.08(\rm{syst.}))\%$, implying that no evidence of $CP$-violation is observed at the present statistics. Finally, an axion-like particle is searched for via the decay $\eta'\rightarrow\pi^+\pi^-a, a\rightarrow e^+e^-$, and upper limits of the branching fractions are presented for the mass assumptions of the axion-like particle in the range of $0-500\ \mathrm{MeV}/c^{2}$.

165. Graph-Mamba: Towards Long-Range Graph Sequence Modeling with Selective State Spaces

Abstract

Attention mechanisms have been widely used to capture long-range dependencies among nodes in Graph Transformers. Bottlenecked by the quadratic computational cost, attention mechanisms fail to scale in large graphs. Recent improvements in computational efficiency are mainly achieved by attention sparsification with random or heuristic-based graph subsampling, which falls short in data-dependent context reasoning. State space models (SSMs), such as Mamba, have gained prominence for their effectiveness and efficiency in modeling long-range dependencies in sequential data. However, adapting SSMs to non-sequential graph data presents a notable challenge. In this work, we introduce Graph-Mamba, the first attempt to enhance long-range context modeling in graph networks by integrating a Mamba block with the input-dependent node selection mechanism. Specifically, we formulate graph-centric node prioritization and permutation strategies to enhance context-aware reasoning, leading to a substantial improvement in predictive performance. Extensive experiments on ten benchmark datasets demonstrate that Graph-Mamba outperforms state-of-the-art methods in long-range graph prediction tasks, with a fraction of the computational cost in both FLOPs and GPU memory consumption. 166. Octet baryon and heavy meson interactions in chiral effective field theory

Abstract

We calculate the effective potentials of the octet baryon and heavy meson systems using the chiral effective field theory up to the next-to-leading order. We consider the contact terms, one-pseudoscalar-meson and two-pseudoscalar-meson exchange contributions, facilitating a comprehensive analysis of the short-, mid-, and long-range interactions in these systems. The low energy constants (LECs) are correlated with those of the $\bar{N}N$ interaction using a quark-level Lagrangian approach. We also incorporate the decuplet baryon contributions in the loop diagrams. Our research provides new insights into several near-threshold charmed baryons [e.g., $\Lambda_{c}(2940)$, $\Xi_{c}(3055)$, and $\Omega_{c}(3188)$, etc.] around $3$ GeV from the hadronic molecular perspective. We also identify several molecular states, designated as $\Xi_{c}$, within the mass range of $3100-3500$ MeV. Further measurements of their resonance parameters and decay patterns in experiments will help to discriminate the conventional baryon and hadronic molecule explanations for these near-threshold states., Comment: 22 pages, 7 figures and 5 tables

167. Physical Activity, Mental Health, and Technology Preferences to Support Cancer Survivors During the COVID-19 Pandemic: Cross-sectional Study

Abstract

BackgroundCOVID-19 has had significant health-related and behavioral impacts worldwide. Cancer survivors (hereafter referred to as “survivors”) are particularly prone to behavioral changes and are encouraged to be more vigilant and observe stricter social distancing measures. ObjectiveWe explored (1) changes in physical activity and sedentary behaviors since the onset of COVID-19, along with changes in mental health status, and (2) alternative strategies to support survivors’ physical activity and social health during and after COVID-19, along with the role of digital health in such strategies. MethodsA questionnaire was distributed among survivors participating (currently or previously) in the community-based physical activity program LIVESTRONG at the Young Men’s Christian Association (YMCA), from 3 sites outside an urban area in Massachusetts. Questions addressed pre–COVID-19 vs current changes in physical activity and sedentary behavior. Anxiety and depression were assessed using the 2-item Generalized Anxiety Disorder scale (GAD-2) and 2-item Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ-2), and scores ≥3 indicated a clinical diagnosis of anxiety or depression, respectively. Digital health preferences were assessed through closed-ended questions. Open-ended responses addressing other preferences for physical activity programs and social support were analyzed, coded, and categorized into themes. ResultsAmong 61 participants (mean age 62 [SD 10.4] years; females: 51/61 [83.6%]), 67.2% (n=41) reported decreased physical activity and 67.2% (n=41) reported prolonged sitting times since the onset of COVID-19. Further, 24.6% (n=15) and 26.2% (n=16) met the GAD-2 and PHQ-2 criteria for clinical anxiety and depression, respectively. All participants owned a cellphone; 90% (n=54) owned a smartphone. Preferences for physical activity programs (n=28) included three themes: (1) use of digital or remote platforms (Zoom, other online platforms, and video platforms), (2) specific activities and locations (eg, outdoor activities, walking, gardening, biking, and physical activities at the YMCA and at senior centers), and (3) importance of social support regardless of activity type (eg, time spent with family, friends, peers, or coaches). The survey revealed a mean score of 71.8 (SD 21.4; scale 0-100) for the importance of social support during physical activity programs. Social support preferences (n=15) revealed three themes: (1) support through remote platforms (eg, texting, Zoom, phone calls, emails, and Facebook), (2) tangible in-person support (YMCA and senior centers), and (3) social support with no specific platform (eg, small gatherings and family or friend visits). ConclusionsPhysical activity and mental health are critical factors for the quality of life of survivors, and interventions tailored to their activity preferences are necessary. Digital or remote physical activity programs with added social support may help address the ongoing needs of survivors during and after the pandemic.
