Abstract: We present a short overview of the TeV-Halos objects as a discovery and a relevant contribution of the High Altitude Water \v{C}erenkov (HAWC) observatory to TeV astrophysics. We discuss history, discovery, knowledge, and the next step through a new and more detailed analysis than the original study in 2017. TeV-Halos will contribute to resolving the problem of the local positron excess observed on the Earth. 152. Connected domination in graphs and v-numbers of binomial edge ideals

Abstract: The v-number of a graded ideal is an algebraic invariant introduced by Cooper et al., and originally motivated by problems in algebraic coding theory. In this paper we study the case of binomial edge ideals and we establish a significant connection between their v-numbers and the concept of connected domination in graphs. More specifically, we prove that the localization of the v-number at one of the minimal primes of the binomial edge ideal $J_G$ of a graph $G$ coincides with the connected domination number of the defining graph, providing a first algebraic description of the connected domination number. As an immediate corollary, we obtain a sharp combinatorial upper bound for the v-number of binomial edge ideals of graphs. Lastly, building on some known results on edge ideals, we analyze how the v-number of $J_G$ behaves under Gr\"obner degeneration when $G$ is a closed graph., Comment: 20 pages. Comments welcome

153. Decision-Focused Model-based Reinforcement Learning for Reward Transfer

Abstract: Decision-focused (DF) model-based reinforcement learning has recently been introduced as a powerful algorithm that can focus on learning the MDP dynamics that are most relevant for obtaining high returns. While this approach increases the agent's performance by directly optimizing the reward, it does so by learning less accurate dynamics from a maximum likelihood perspective. We demonstrate that when the reward function is defined by preferences over multiple objectives, the DF model may be sensitive to changes in the objective preferences.In this work, we develop the robust decision-focused (RDF) algorithm, which leverages the non-identifiability of DF solutions to learn models that maximize expected returns while simultaneously learning models that transfer to changes in the preference over multiple objectives. We demonstrate the effectiveness of RDF on two synthetic domains and two healthcare simulators, showing that it significantly improves the robustness of DF model learning to changes in the reward function without compromising training-time return.

Abstract: We present a catalog of likely astrophysical neutrino track-like events from the IceCube Neutrino Observatory. IceCube began reporting likely astrophysical neutrinos in 2016 and this system was updated in 2019. The catalog presented here includes events that were reported in real-time since 2019, as well as events identified in archival data samples starting from 2011. We report 275 neutrino events from two selection channels as the first entries in the catalog, the IceCube Event Catalog of Alert Tracks, which will see ongoing extensions with additional alerts. The gold and bronze alert channels respectively provide neutrino candidates with 50\% and 30\% probability of being astrophysical, on average assuming an astrophysical neutrino power law energy spectral index of 2.19. For each neutrino alert, we provide the reconstructed energy, direction, false alarm rate, probability of being astrophysical in origin, and likelihood contours describing the spatial uncertainty in the alert's reconstructed location. We also investigate a directional correlation of these neutrino events with gamma-ray and X-ray catalogs including 4FGL, 3HWC, TeVCat and Swift-BAT., Comment: Published in ApJS. Abstract: The High-Altitude Water Cherenkov (HAWC) observatory is a second-generation continuously operated, wide field-of-view, TeV gamma-ray observatory. The HAWC observatory and its analysis techniques build on experience of the Milagro experiment in using ground-based water Cherenkov detectors for gamma-ray astronomy. HAWC is located on the Sierra Negra volcano in M\'exico at an elevation of 4100 meters above sea level. The completed HAWC observatory principal detector (HAWC) consists of 300 closely spaced water Cherenkov detectors, each equipped with four photomultiplier tubes to provide timing and charge information to reconstruct the extensive air shower energy and arrival direction. The HAWC observatory has been optimized to observe transient and steady emission from sources of gamma rays within an energy range from several hundred GeV to several hundred TeV. However, most of the air showers detected are initiated by cosmic rays, allowing studies of cosmic rays also to be performed. Abstract: BACKGROUND: In 2021, four patients who had received solid organ transplants in the USA developed encephalitis beginning 2-6 weeks after transplantation from a common organ donor. We describe an investigation into the cause of encephalitis in these patients. METHODS: From Nov 7, 2021, to Feb 24, 2022, we conducted a public health investigation involving 15 agencies and medical centres in the USA. We tested various specimens (blood, cerebrospinal fluid, intraocular fluid, serum, and tissues) from the organ donor and recipients by serology, RT-PCR, immunohistochemistry, metagenomic next-generation sequencing, and host gene expression, and conducted a traceback of blood transfusions received by the organ donor. FINDINGS: We identified one read from yellow fever virus in cerebrospinal fluid from the recipient of a kidney using metagenomic next-generation sequencing. Recent infection with yellow fever virus was confirmed in all four organ recipients by identification of yellow fever virus RNA consistent with the 17D vaccine strain in brain tissue from one recipient and seroconversion after transplantation in three recipients. Two patients recovered and two patients had no neurological recovery and died. 3 days before organ procurement, the organ donor received a blood transfusion from a donor who had received a yellow fever vaccine 6 days before blood donation. INTERPRETATION: This investigation substantiates the use of metagenomic next-generation sequencing for the broad-based detection of rare or unexpected pathogens. Health-care workers providing vaccinations should inform patients of the need to defer blood donation for at least 2 weeks after receiving a yellow fever vaccine. Despite mitigation strategies and safety interventions, a low risk of transfusion-transmitted infections remains. Abstract: The cervicovaginal microbiota is influenced by host physiology, immunology, lifestyle, and ethnicity. We hypothesized that there would be differences in the cervicovaginal microbiota among pregnant, nonpregnant, and menopausal women living in Puerto Rico (PR) with and without human papillomavirus (HPV) infection and cervical cancer. We specifically wanted to determine if the microbiota is associated with variations in cervical cytology. A total of 294 women, including reproductive-age nonpregnant (N = 196), pregnant (N = 37), and menopausal (N = 61) women, were enrolled. The cervicovaginal bacteria were characterized by 16S rRNA amplicon sequencing, the HPV was genotyped with SPF10-LiPA, and cervical cytology was quantified. High-risk HPV (HR-HPV, 67.3%) was prevalent, including genotypes not covered by the 9vt HPV vaccine. Cervical lesions (34%) were also common. The cervical microbiota was dominated by Lactobacillus iners. Pregnant women in the second and third trimesters exhibited a decrease in diversity and abundance of microbes associated with bacterial vaginosis. Women in menopause had greater alpha diversity, a greater proportion of facultative and strictly anaerobic bacteria, and higher cervicovaginal pH than premenopausal women. Cervical lesions were associated with greater alpha diversity. However, no significant associations between the microbiota and HPV infection (HR or LR-HPV types) were found. The cervicovaginal microbiota of women living in Puerto Rican were either dominated by L. iners or diverse microbial communities regardless of a womans physiological stage. We postulate that the microbiota and the high prevalence of HR-HPV increase the risk of cervical lesions among women living in PR. IMPORTANCE In the enclosed manuscript, we provide the first in-depth characterization of the cervicovaginal microbiota of Hispanic women living in Puerto Rico (PR), using a 16S rRNA approach, and include women of different physiological stages. Surprisingly we found that high-risk HPV was ubiquitous with a prevalence of 67.3%, including types not covered by the 9vt HPV vaccine. We also found highly diverse microbial communities across women groups-with a reduction in pregnant women, but dominated by nonoptimal Lactobacillus iners. Additionally, we found vaginosis-associated bacteria as Dialister spp., Gardnerella spp., Clostridium, or Prevotella among most women. We believe this is a relevant and timely article expanding knowledge on the cervicovaginal microbiome of PR women, where we postulate that these highly diverse communities are conducive to cervical disease.

Abstract: Patients from historically under-represented racial and ethnic groups are enrolled in cancer clinical trials at disproportionately low rates in the USA1-3. As these patients often have limited English proficiency4-7, we hypothesized that one barrier to their inclusion is the cost to investigators of translating consent documents. To test this hypothesis, we evaluated more than 12,000 consent events at a large cancer centre and assessed whether patients requiring translated consent documents would sign consent documents less frequently in studies lacking industry sponsorship (for which the principal investigator pays the translation costs) than for industry-sponsored studies (for which the translation costs are covered by the sponsor). Here we show that the proportion of consent events for patients with limited English proficiency in studies not sponsored by industry was approximately half of that seen in industry-sponsored studies. We also show that among those signing consent documents, the proportion of consent documents translated into the patient's primary language in studies without industry sponsorship was approximately half of that seen in industry-sponsored studies. The results suggest that the cost of consent document translation in trials not sponsored by industry could be a potentially modifiable barrier to the inclusion of patients with limited English proficiency.

Abstract: BACKGROUND: These clinical standards aim to provide guidance for diagnosis, treatment, and management of drug-susceptible TB in children and adolescents.METHODS: Fifty-two global experts in paediatric TB participated in a Delphi consensus process. After eight rounds of revisions, 51/52 (98%) participants endorsed the final document.RESULTS: Eight standards were identified: Standard 1, Age and developmental stage are critical considerations in the assessment and management of TB; Standard 2, Children and adolescents with symptoms and signs of TB disease should undergo prompt evaluation, and diagnosis and treatment initiation should not depend on microbiological confirmation; Standard 3, Treatment initiation is particularly urgent in children and adolescents with presumptive TB meningitis and disseminated (miliary) TB; Standard 4, Children and adolescents should be treated with an appropriate weight-based regimen; Standard 5, Treating TB infection (TBI) is important to prevent disease; Standard 6, Children and adolescents should receive home-based/community-based treatment support whenever possible; Standard 7, Children, adolescents, and their families should be provided age-appropriate support to optimise engagement in care and clinical outcomes; and Standard 8, Case reporting and contact tracing should be conducted for each child and adolescent.CONCLUSION: These consensus-based clinical standards, which should be adapted to local contexts, will improve the care of children and adolescents affected by TB.

Abstract: Cosmetic dermatology is a key subspecialty of academic dermatology. As such, academic centers are expected to demonstrate excellence in the teaching of cosmetic dermatology skills to trainees, the clinical delivery of cosmetic dermatology services to patients, and the performance of clinical research that advances knowledge and uncovers new therapies in cosmetic dermatology. The Association of Academic Cosmetic Dermatology (AACD), a newly formed medical professional society, includes as its principal aims the support of all of these areas. AACD is comprised of group of board-certified dermatologists who teach cosmetic and laser dermatology at US dermatology residency programs. An expert panel constituted by the AACD recently convened a workshop to review gaps pertaining to academic cosmetic dermatology. This panel considered needs and potential corrective initiatives in three domains: resident education, patient experience, and clinical research. The work of the panel was used to develop a roadmap, which was adopted by consensus, and which will serve to guide the AACD moving forward.

Abstract: Cosmetic and laser procedures are increasingly popular among patients and are skills in which dermatologists are regarded as well trained. Most dermatology residents intend to incorporate cosmetic procedures into their practice and prefer to learn such procedures during residency through direct patient care. However, there are notable challenges in optimizing how residents are trained in cosmetic and laser dermatology. To address these barriers and elevate the practice of cosmetic dermatology in academic medicine, the Association of Academic Cosmetic Dermatology (AACD) was founded in 2021 as the lead professional society for dermatologists who direct the education of resident trainees in cosmetic and laser dermatology. The AACD, a group of board-certified dermatologists who teach cosmetic and laser dermatology to residents, aims to improve cosmetic dermatology education through collaboration, research, and advocacy.

190. Channel Phase Processing in Wireless Networks for Human Activity Recognition

Abstract: The phase of the channel state information (CSI) is underutilized as a source of information in wireless sensing due to its sensitivity to synchronization errors of the signal reception. A linear transformation of the phase is commonly applied to correct linear offsets and, in a few cases, some filtering in time or frequency is carried out to smooth the data. This paper presents a novel processing method of the CSI phase to improve the accuracy of human activity recognition (HAR) in indoor environments. This new method, coined Time Smoothing and Frequency Rebuild (TSFR), consists of performing a CSI phase sanitization method to remove phase impairments based on a linear regression transformation method, then a time domain filtering stage with a Savitzy-Golay (SG) filter for denoising purposes and, finally, the phase is rebuilt, eliminating distortions in frequency caused by SG filtering. The TSFR method has been tested on five datasets obtained from experimental measurements, using three different deep learning algorithms, and compared against five other types of CSI phase processing. The results show an accuracy improvement using TSFR in all the cases. Concretely, accuracy performance higher than 90\% in most of the studied scenarios has been achieved with the proposed solution. In few-shot learning strategies, TSFR outperforms the state-of-the-art performance from 35% to 85%.

Abstract: The LIGO/Virgo collaboration published the catalogs GWTC-1, GWTC-2.1 and GWTC-3 containing candidate gravitational-wave (GW) events detected during its runs O1, O2 and O3. These GW events can be possible sites of neutrino emission. In this paper, we present a search for neutrino counterparts of 90 GW candidates using IceCube DeepCore, the low-energy infill array of the IceCube Neutrino Observatory. The search is conducted using an unbinned maximum likelihood method, within a time window of 1000 s and uses the spatial and timing information from the GW events. The neutrinos used for the search have energies ranging from a few GeV to several tens of TeV. We do not find any significant emission of neutrinos, and place upper limits on the flux and the isotropic-equivalent energy emitted in low-energy neutrinos. We also conduct a binomial test to search for source populations potentially contributing to neutrino emission. We report a non-detection of a significant neutrino-source population with this test.

Abstract: Dark Matter particles in the Galactic Center and halo can annihilate or decay into a pair of neutrinos producing a monochromatic flux of neutrinos. The spectral feature of this signal is unique and it is not expected from any astrophysical production mechanism. Its observation would constitute a dark matter smoking gun signal. We performed the first dedicated search with a neutrino telescope for such signal, by looking at both the angular and energy information of the neutrino events. To this end, a total of five years of IceCube's DeepCore data has been used to test dark matter masses ranging from 10~GeV to 40~TeV. No significant neutrino excess was found and upper limits on the annihilation cross section, as well as lower limits on the dark matter lifetime, were set. The limits reached are of the order of $10^{-24}$~cm$^3/s$ for an annihilation and up to $10^{27}$ seconds for decaying Dark Matter. Using the same data sample we also derive limits for dark matter annihilation or decay into a pair of Standard Model charged particles.

Abstract: Cars capture and generate huge volumes of data in real-time, including the driving dynamics, the environment, and the driver and passengers' activities. With the proliferation of Connected and Automated Mobility (CAM) applications, the value of vehicle data is getting higher for the automotive industry as it is not limited to onboard systems and services. This paper proposes an architecture that exploits Multi-access Edge Computing (MEC) technology of 5G networks to enable data monetisation. It employs a virtualisation framework that instantiates on consumer demand pipelines that process data samples according to Service Level Agreement (SLA) policies, licensing terms and Region Of Interest (ROI) clusters with a privacy-centric design. In addition, the aspects that need to be considered when creating a data marketplace for the automotive sector are identified while highlighting the design features that go beyond the current scientific and market solutions.

Abstract: Atmospheric muon neutrinos are produced by meson decays in cosmic-ray-induced air showers. The flux depends on meteorological quantities such as the air temperature, which affects the density of air. Competition between decay and re-interaction of those mesons in the first particle production generations gives rise to a higher neutrino flux when the air density in the stratosphere is lower, corresponding to a higher temperature. A measurement of a temperature dependence of the atmospheric $\nu_{\mu}$ flux provides a novel method for constraining hadro\-nic interaction models of air showers. It is particularly sensitive to the production of kaons. Studying this temperature dependence for the first time requires a large sample of high-energy neutrinos as well as a detailed understanding of atmospheric properties. We report the significant ($> 10 \sigma$) observation of a correlation between the rate of more than 260,000 neutrinos, detected by IceCube between 2012 and 2018, and atmospheric temperatures of the stratosphere, measured by the Atmospheric Infrared Sounder (AIRS) instrument aboard NASA's AQUA satellite. For the observed 10$\%$ seasonal change of effective atmospheric temperature we measure a 3.5(3)$\%$ change in the muon neutrino flux. This observed correlation deviates by about 2-3 standard deviations from the expected correlation of 4.3$\%$ as obtained from theoretical predictions under the assumption of various hadronic interaction models, Comment: Preprint submitted to EPJC

Abstract: Ultraviolet spectroscopy is a powerful method to study planetary surface composition through reflectance measurements and atmospheric composition through stellar/solar occultations, transits of other planetary bodies, and direct imaging of airglow and auroral emissions. The next generation of ultraviolet spectrographs (UVS) on board ESA's JUICE (Jupiter Icy Moons Explorer) and NASA's Europa Clipper missions will perform such measurements of Jupiter and its moons in the early 2030's. This work presents a compilation of a detailed UV stellar catalog, named CUBS, of targets with high intensity in the 50-210 nm wavelength range with applications relevant to planetary spectroscopy. These applications include: 1) Planning and simulating occultations, including calibration measurements; 2) Modeling starlight illumination of dark, nightside planetary surfaces primarily lit by the sky; and 3) Studying the origin of diffuse galactic UV light as mapped by existing datasets from Juno-UVS and others. CUBS includes information drawn from resources such as the International Ultraviolet Explorer (IUE) catalog and SIMBAD. We have constructed model spectra at 0.1 nm resolution for almost 90,000 targets using Kurucz models and, when available, IUE spectra. CUBS also includes robust checks for agreement between the Kurucz models and the IUE data. We also present a tool for which our catalog can be used to identify the best candidates for stellar occultation observations, with applications for any UV instrument. 196. Biasing the quantum vacuum to control macroscopic probability distributions

Abstract: One of the most important insights of quantum field theory is that electromagnetic fields must fluctuate. Even in the vacuum state, the electric and magnetic fields have a nonzero variance, leading to ubiquitous effects such as spontaneous emission, the Lamb shift, the Casimir effect, and more. These "vacuum fluctuations" have also been harnessed as a source of perfect randomness, for example to generate perfectly random photonic bits. Despite these achievements, many potential applications of quantum randomness in fields such as probabilistic computing rely on controllable probability distributions, which have not yet been realized on photonic platforms. In this work, we show that the injection of vacuum-level "bias" fields into a multi-stable optical system enables a controllable source of "biased" quantum randomness. We demonstrate this concept in an optical parametric oscillator (OPO). Ordinarily, an OPO initiated from the ground state develops a signal field in one of two degenerate phase states (0 and $\pi$) with equal probability. By injecting bias pulses which contain less than one photon on average, we control the probabilities associated with the two output states, leading to the first controllable photonic probabilistic bit (p-bit). We shed light on the physics behind this process, showing quantitative agreement between theory and experiment. Finally, we demonstrate the potential of our approach for sensing sub-photon level fields by showing that our system is sensitive to the temporal shape of bias field pulses far below the single photon level. Our results suggest a new platform for the study of stochastic quantum dynamics in nonlinear driven-dissipative systems, and point toward possible applications in ultrafast photonic probabilistic computing, as well as the sensing of extremely weak fields.

Abstract: Core-collapse supernovae are a promising potential high-energy neutrino source class. We test for correlation between seven years of IceCube neutrino data and a catalog containing more than 1000 core-collapse supernovae of types IIn and IIP and a sample of stripped-envelope supernovae. We search both for neutrino emission from individual supernovae, and for combined emission from the whole supernova sample through a stacking analysis. No significant spatial or temporal correlation of neutrinos with the cataloged supernovae was found. The overall deviation of all tested scenarios from the background expectation yields a p-value of 93% which is fully compatible with background. The derived upper limits on the total energy emitted in neutrinos are $1.7\times 10^{48}$ erg for stripped-envelope supernovae, $2.8\times 10^{48}$ erg for type IIP, and $1.3\times 10^{49}$ erg for type IIn SNe, the latter disfavouring models with optimistic assumptions for neutrino production in interacting supernovae. We conclude that strippe-envelope supernovae and supernovae of type IIn do not contribute more than $14.6\%$ and $33.9\%$ respectively to the diffuse neutrino flux in the energy range of about $10^3-10^5$ GeV, assuming that the neutrino energy spectrum follows a power-law with an index of $-2.5$. Under the same assumption, we can only constrain the contribution of type IIP SNe to no more than $59.9\%$. Thus core-collapse supernovae of types IIn and stripped-envelope supernovae can both be ruled out as the dominant source of the diffuse neutrino flux under the given assumptions., Comment: Submitted to ApJ Letters

Abstract: While no known asteroid poses a threat to Earth for at least the next century, the catalog of near-Earth asteroids is incomplete for objects whose impacts would produce regional devastation. Several approaches have been proposed to potentially prevent an asteroid impact with Earth by deflecting or disrupting an asteroid. A test of kinetic impact technology was identified as the highest priority space mission related to asteroid mitigation. NASA's Double Asteroid Redirection Test (DART) mission is the first full-scale test of kinetic impact technology. The mission's target asteroid was Dimorphos, the secondary member of the S-type binary near-Earth asteroid (65803) Didymos. This binary asteroid system was chosen to enable ground-based telescopes to quantify the asteroid deflection caused by DART's impact. While past missions have utilized impactors to investigate the properties of small bodies those earlier missions were not intended to deflect their targets and did not achieve measurable deflections. Here we report the DART spacecraft's autonomous kinetic impact into Dimorphos and reconstruct the impact event, including the timeline leading to impact, the location and nature of the DART impact site, and the size and shape of Dimorphos. The successful impact of the DART spacecraft with Dimorphos and the resulting change in Dimorphos's orbit demonstrates that kinetic impactor technology is a viable technique to potentially defend Earth if necessary., Comment: Accepted by Nature

Abstract: The latest High Altitude Water Cherenkov (HAWC) point-like source catalog up to 56 TeV reported the detection of two sources in the region of the Galactic plane at galactic longitude 52\deg < l < 55\deg, 3HWC J1930+188 and 3HWC J1928+178. The first one is associated with a known TeV source, the supernova remnant SNR G054.1+00.3. It was discovered by one of the currently operating Imaging Atmospheric Cherenkov Telescope (IACT), the Very Energetic Radiation Imaging Telescope Array System (VERITAS), detected by the High Energy Stereoscopic System (H.E.S.S.), and identified as a composite SNR. However, the source 3HWC J1928+178, discovered by HAWC and coincident with the pulsar PSR J1928+1746, was not detected by any IACT despite their long exposure on the region, until a recent new analysis of H.E.S.S. data was able to confirm it. Moreover, no X-ray counterpart has been detected from this pulsar. We present a multicomponent fit of this region using the latest HAWC data. This reveals an additional new source, HAWC J1932+192, which is potentially associated with the pulsar PSR J1932+1916, whose gamma-ray emission could come from the acceleration of particles in its pulsar wind nebula. In the case of 3HWC J1928+178, several possible explanations are explored, in a attempt to unveil the origins of the very-high-energy gamma-ray emission.

200. 3D Koch-type crystals

Abstract: We consider the construction of a family $\{K_N\}$ of $3$-dimensional Koch-type surfaces, with a corresponding family of $3$-dimensional Koch-type ``snowflake analogues" $\{\mathcal{C}_N\}$, where $N>1$ are integers with $N \not\equiv 0 \,(\bmod\,\, 3)$. We first establish that the Koch surfaces $K_N$ are $s_N$-sets with respect to the $s_N$-dimensional Hausdorff measure, for $s_N=\log(N^2+2)/\log(N)$ the Hausdorff dimension of each Koch-type surface $K_N$. Using self-similarity, one deduces that the same result holds for each Koch-type crystal $\mathcal{C}_N$. We then develop lower and upper approximation monotonic sequences converging to the $s_N$-dimensional Hausdorff measure on each Koch-type surface $K_N$, and consequently, one obtains upper and lower bounds for the Hausdorff measure for each set $\mathcal{C}_N$. As an application, we consider the realization of Robin boundary value problems over the Koch-type crystals $\mathcal{C}_N$, for $N>2$., Comment: 28 pages
