BOUND states ,ANGULAR distribution (Nuclear physics) ,PROTON transfer reactions - Abstract
In this paper we discuss new experimental data on the one-proton transfer reaction
32 S(3 He, d)33 Cl* at 9.68 MeV bombarding energy. An enriched32 S target and a high-granularity hodoscope were used to obtain data for proton transfer reactions to bound and unbound states in33 Cl. Angular distributions were interpreted by means of finite-range DWBA and coupled-channel calculations. The obtained spectroscopic factors have been compared with previous results reported in the literature and with shell model calculations. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]- Published

Physics ,QC1-999 - Abstract
The elliptic-flow ratio of neutrons with respect to protons in reactions of neutron rich Heavy-Ion at intermediate energies has been recently proposed as an observable sensitive to the strength of the symmetry term in the nuclear equation of state (EOS) at supra-saturation densities. The recent results obtained from the existing FOPI/LAND data for 197Au+197Au collisions at 400 MeV/nucleon in comparison with the UrQMD model allowed a first estimate of the symmetry term of the EOS but suffer from a considerable statistical uncertainty. In order to obtain an improved data set for Au+Au collisions and to extend the study to other systems, a new experiment was carried out at the GSI laboratory by the ASY-EOS collaboration in May 2011.

Correlations between two or more particles can be used as a tool to explore the space-time features of nuclear reactions as well as spectroscopic properties of produced unbound clusters. In order to have new options to study the mentioned correlations, FARCOS (Femtoscope ARray for COrrelations and Spectroscopy) has been conceived as a compact high resolution array, composed of square telescopes. In this work the main features of FARCOS array as well as part of the physics cases are described.

Preliminary outcome of ISODEC experiment, performed at INFNLNS with the CHIMERA array, are presented. Disintegration path dependence on the entrance-channel N/Z ratios (isospin asymmetries) for the reactions 78Kr+40Ca and 86Kr+48Ca at 10 A·MeV, which give origin to the intermediate systems 118Ba and 134Ba, is being investigated. Staggering effects seem to be present as it was the case of a complementary measurement performed at GANIL at lower energy, i.e. 78,82Kr+40Ca at 5.5 A·MeV.

Effects related to the neutron to proton ratio (N/Z) degree of freedom in 40,48Ca+40,48Ca reactions at 25 MeV/nucleon have been investigated. Isotopic effect and even-odd staggering characterize the emission of light fragments at forward angles. The study of isobaric ratio 7Li/7Be for quasi-projectile source in semi-peripheral event of reactions allows moreover to investigate isospin diffusion effects in heavy ion collisions.

Physics ,QC1-999 - Abstract
Dynamical breakup of projectile-like fragments (PLF) following dissipative reactions of 48 Ca projectiles with 112 Sn and 124 Sn is shown to exhibit “isoscaling” regularities that can be understood in terms of phase space governed by ground state masses. Ambiguities in isoscaling parameters obscure information on nuclear symmetry energy at subnormal densities.

The first results of the ISODEC experiment, performed at the INFN Laboratori Nazionali del Sud (LNS) by using the CHIMERA detector, are presented. The principal aim of this experiment is to explore the isospin dependence of the decay modes of medium mass compound nuclei formed by fusion processes, by studying the competition between the various disintegration modes of 118,134Ba nuclei produced in the reactions 78Kr+40Ca and 86Kr+48Ca at 10 AMeV. The studied systems allow in fact to produce compound nuclei with a large variation of N/Z, and such data will also provide new constraint on sophisticated models attempting to describe statistical and/or dynamical properties of excited nuclei. The experiment complements data already obtained at 5.5 AMeV for 78,82Kr+40Ca reactions, previously realized at GANIL by using the INDRA detector. First results show a strong staggering effects in the Z distributions, as well as different isotopic composition and enrichment for the reaction products in the two systems.

The cross section, kinetic energy distribution and angular distribution of fragments with atomic number 3 ≤ Z ≤ 28 emitted in the reaction 78Kr + 40Ca at the bombarding energy of 5.5 MeV/nucleon and coincidence between light charged particles and fragments were measured by means of the 4π-INDRA array to study the decay mechanism of medium mass excited nucleus. Global features indicate a high degree of relaxation and are compatible with a binary fission from compound nucleus. The mean value of the kinetic energy distributions of fragments indicates dominance of Coulomb interaction, while the width of the distribution signals large fluctuations. Inclusive cross-section distributions of fragments with charge 3 ≤ Z ≤ 28 are bell-shaped and a strong even-odd-staggering (o-es) is observed for 3 ≤ Z ≤ 12. Coincidence measurements suggest that the light partners in very asymmetric fission are emitted at excitation energies below the particle emission thresholds. Data were confronted to the predictions of statistical model describing the decay of compound nuclei by emission of light particles and fragments. Calculations assuming spherical fission fragments and finite-range liquid drop fission barriers are not able to explain the experimental features. Attempts have been made to improve the agreement with experimental data. The analysis indicates the strong influence of the shape parameterization of the potential energy surface in describing the fission process of intermediate mass compound nuclei.

The excitation of the Pygmy Dipole Resonance (PDR) in the $^{68}$Ni nucleus, above the neutron emission threshold, via an isoscalar probe has been observed for the first time. The excitation has been produced in reactions where a $^{68}$Ni beam, obtained by the fragmentation of a $^{70}$Zn primary beam at INFN-LNS, impinged on a $^{12}$C target. The γ-ray decay was detected using the CsI(Tl) detectors of the CHIMERA multidetector sphere. The $^{68}$Ni isotope as well as other heavy ion fragments were detected using the FARCOS array. The population of the PDR was evidenced by comparing the detected γ-ray energy spectra with statistical code calculations. The isotopic resolution of the detection system allows also to directly compare neutron decay channels with the $^{68}$Ni channel, better evidencing the PDR decay response function. This comparison allows also the extraction of the PDR cross section and the relative γ-ray angular distribution. The measured γ-ray angular distribution confirms the E1 character of the transition. The γ decay cross section for the excitation of the PDR was measured to be 0.32 mb with a 18% of statistical error.

In nuclear thermodynamics, the determination of the excitation energy of hot nuclei is a fundamental experimental problem. Instrumental physicists have been trying to solve this problem for several years by building the most exhaustive 4Pi detector arrays and perfecting their calorimetry techniques. In a recent paper, a proposal for a new calorimetry, called "3D calorimetry", was made. It tries to optimize the separation between the particles and fragments emitted by the Quasi-Projectile and the other possible contributions. This can be achieved by determining the experimental probability for a given nucleus of a nuclear reaction to be emitted by the Quasi-Projectile. It has been developed for the INDRA data. In the present work, we wanted to dissect and validate this new method of characterization of a hot Quasi-Projectile. So we tried to understand and control it completely to determine these limits. Using the HIPSE event generator and a software simulating the functioning of INDRA, we were able to achieve this goal and provide a quantitative estimation of the quality of the QP characterization.

International audience; In this work we reinvestigate the spectroscopy of C13 at excitation energies larger than the α emission threshold (Ex>10.648MeV) by means of a comprehensive R-matrix fit of experimental data concerning α+Be9 collisions at low energies. Owing to the analysis of many reaction channels in a broad energy range, we improved the current knowledge on the level scheme of C13, by contributing to remove uncertain Jπ assignments for several states. Some tentative speculations on the existence of molecular bands associated to cluster structures in this nucleus are also discussed.

International audience; Background: The isovector part of the nuclear equation of state remains partly unknown and is the subject of many studies. The degree of equilibration between the two main collision partners in heavy ion reactions may be used to study the equation of state since it is connected to isospin (N/Z) transport properties of nuclear matter. Purpose: We aim to test chemical equilibrium attainment by measuring isotopic characteristics of emitted elements as a function of impact parameter. Method: We study four Xe136,124+Sn124,112 reactions at 32 MeV/nucleon. The data were acquired with the INDRA detector at the GANIL (Caen, France) facility. Combined (projectile+target) systems are identical for two studied reactions, therefore it is possible to study the path towards chemical equilibrium from different neutron to proton ratio (N/Z) entrance channels. The study is limited to identified isotopes detected in the forward part of the center of mass in order to focus on the evolution of projectile-like fragment isotopic content and the benefit of excellent detection performances of the forward part of the apparatus. Results: Light charged particle productions, multiplicities, and abundance ratios dependence against impact parameter are studied. It is measured to almost identical mean characteristics for the two Xe124+Sn124 and Xe136+Sn112 systems for central collisions. Comparing all four studied systems it is shown that mean values evolve from projectile N/Z to projectile+target N/Z dependence. Those identical mean characteristics concern all light charged particles except He3 whose mean behavior is strongly different. Conclusions: Our inclusive analysis (no event selection) shows that N/Z equilibration between the projectile-like and the target-like is realized to a high degree for central collisions. The light charged particle production mean value difference between Xe124+Sn124 and Xe136+Sn112 systems for central collisions is of the order of a few %. This slight difference could be explained by pre-equilibrium particle emission whose intensity may differ for the two reactions. This point is demonstrated using He3 mean characteristics whose production takes place before chemical equilibrium attainment. The realized N/Z balance between projectile-like and target-like does not imply a pure two-body mechanism. Indeed a midrapidity production of light charged particle does exist and its N/Z is different as compared to the projectile-like one: it is n enriched. This point is touched using He6 midrapidity production which is favored by the drift phenomenon.

FARCOS (Femtoscope ARray for Correlation and Spectroscopy) is a novel modular detection system featuring high angular and energy resolution able to reconstruct the particle’s momentum at high precision and capable of performing correlation measurements of Light Charged Particles (LCPs) and of LCPs and Intermediate Mass Fragments (IMFs). Given the unique feature of FARCOS of aiming at the identification in charge and mass even the fragments that are fully absorbed in the first Si layer, the frontend electronics must meet stringent requirements in terms of dynamic range and integral-nonlinearity. To this aim we designed and qualified a VLSI frontend able to readout signals of both polarities and suitable to be coupled with both the DSSSD and the photodiodes reading the scintillation light. During February 2017 for the first time the performance of a workhorse of the FARCOS telescope equipped with the designed VLSI frontend electronics has been experimentally qualified in a test beam at the Laboratori Nazionali del Sud (LNS) of INFN in Catania. The $^{\bf 16}$ O beam at 88 MeV accelerated by the Tandem accelerator has been used impinging on different targets (LiF, Au, C, Ni). This contribution focuses on the results of the test beam, highlighting the performance of the designed frontend electronics when coupled with the different detection stages of the FARCOS telescopes.

We present the first results of the ISODEC experiment, performed at the INFN-LNS with the CHIMERA device, in order to study the competition between the various disintegration modes of 118,134Ba compound nuclei produced by bombarding 40,48Ca targets with beams of 78,86Kr at 10 AMeV. This work aims thus to explore the isospin dependence of the decay modes of medium mass compound nuclei formed by fusion processes. The experiment complements data already obtained at 5.5 MeV/A for 78,82Kr+40Ca reactions, studied by Ademard et al. with beams delivered by GANIL facility and by using the INDRA detector.

We will discuss results concerning the fate of hot nuclear systems populated in 40,48Ca+40,48Ca reactions at 25 MeV/nucleon. Due to the complexity of events, we used the Chimera 4π device as detection system. By selecting central events of reaction, we found that the interplay between binary-like and evaporation residue emissions is strongly sensitive on the N/Z of the entrance channels. In particular, evaporation residue emission increases at increasing the neutron content of colliding system. By comparing or data with CoMD-II model calculations, we can extract information about the density depend part of Symmetry Potential in the Nuclear Equation of State at near-saturation densities.

Physics ,QC1-999 - Abstract
Decay modes of excited nuclei are studied in 78,82Kr + 40Ca reactions at 5.5 MeV/nucleon by means of light-charged particles measured in coincidence with intermediate mass fragments and fission-like fragments. Inclusive cross-section distributions of fragments with charge 3 ≤ Z ≤ 28 are bell-shaped and a strong oddeven-staggering (o-e-s) is observed for 3 ≤ Z ≤ 12. Coincidence measurements suggest that the light partners in very asymmetric fission are emitted at excitation energies below the particle emission thresholds. Data were confronted to the predictions of statistical models describing the decay of compound nuclei by emission of light particles and fragments. Comparison with models suggests that the o-e-s of the light-fragment yields is mainly due to the successive steps of compound nucleus disintegration.

Physics ,QC1-999 - Abstract
The influence of the neutron richness on binary decays is investigated in 78,82Kr+ 40Ca reactions at 5.5 MeV/A incident energy. Kinetic energy distributions and angular distributions of fragments with atomic number 6 ≤ Z ≤ 28 were measured using the 4π-INDRA array. Global features are compatible with an emission from a long-lived system. The yields around the symmetric splitting are about 30The persistence of strong structural effects is evidenced from elemental cross-sections of the light fragments. The cross-sections for odd-Z fragments are higher for the neutron rich CN while cross-sections for even-Z fragments are higher for the neutron poor CN. Calculations assuming two different potential energy surfaces are presented.

International audience; The study of the decay modes competition of the compound systems produced in the collisions 78Kr+40Ca and 86Kr+48Ca at 10 MeV/A is presented. In particular, the N/Z entrance channel influence on the decay paths of the compound systems, directly connected to the isospin influence, is investigated. The experiment was performed at the INFN Laboratori Nazionali del Sud (LNS) in Catania by using the 4π multi-detector CHIMERA. Charge, mass, angular distributions and kinematical features of the reaction products were studied. The analysis shows some differences in the contribution arising from the various reaction mechanisms for the neutron-poor and neutron-rich systems.

International audience; In this contribution the status of the FAZIA project is presented, with a particular focus on the first experiment (identified as ISO-FAZIA) after the R&D phase. In this experiment four complete FAZIA blocks in a fully operating configuration were used. They were mounted in a planar “belt” geometry, symmetrically positioned with respect to the beam axis, covering the polar angles between 2.5◦ and 17.4◦ degrees. The investigated systems were 84Kr + 48,40Ca at 35 AMeV. The main goal of the experiment was the study of the isospin transport phenomena, extending a previous analysis. This contribution will report on the isotopic identi- fication capability of the FAZIA detector as well as preliminary results concerning the average isospin of the quasi-projectile produced in semiperipheral collisions as a function of the isospin of the target.

International audience; In this conference proceeding we introduce the last results obtained by the INDRA Collaboration. Those results will be better explained and more detailed in the following report presentations of this issue and just a brief overview will be mentionned here, with only the main conclusions addressed. This summary is divided into two parts. The first one is devoted to systematic studies on heavy-ion collisions around Fermi energy with the INDRA multidetector array. Analyses of nuclear reactions in term of dissipation, reaction mechanisms, decay modes, isospin diffusion, excitation energy and calorimetry will be discussed. This has been done thanks to the large INDRA data base, collected over most than twenty years now. The second part of this proceeding concerns analyses of data with a specific set-up: INDRA coupled with the VAMOS spectrometer. Complementary studies with full determination of all the particles event by event (Z, A, E, θ, φ) has been performed to access important parameters like symmetry energy, level density parameters, full decay channels (partitions), E∗, temperature wich are the main ingredients in the decay of hot heavy ions.

International audience; In this paper we briefly discuss about a novel application of the IMFIMF correlation function to the physical case of binary massive projectile-like (PLF) splitting for dynamical and statistical breakup/fission in heavy ion collisions at Fermi energy. Theoretical simulations are also shown for comparisons with the data. These preliminary results have been obtained for the reverse kinematics reaction 124Sn+64Ni at 35 A MeV that was studied using the forward part of CHIMERA detector. In that reaction a strong competition between a dynamical and a statistical components and its evolution with the charge asymmetry of the binary break up was already shown. In this work we show that the IMF-IMF correlation function can be used to pin down the timescale of the fragments production in binary fission-like phenomena. We also made simulations with the CoMDII model in order to compare to the experimental IMF-IMF correlation function. In future we plan to extend these studies to different reaction mechanisms and nuclear systems and to compare with different theoretical transport simulations.

International audience; During the last four years, several measurements have been carried out where the capabilities of FARCOS array were tested. In some of this occasions, FARCOS was coupled to the 4π array CHIMERA, permanently placed at INFN-Laboratori Nazionali del Sud, Catania in order to be tested in real experimental measurements. At the present situation, the FARCOS demonstrator is formed by 4 telescopes out of the originally 20 that will constitute the final array. Here are presented some preliminary results obtained with the new array, probing its qualities and showing the effectiveness of FARCOS telescopes. The initial encouraging results support the construction of the complete array.

International audience; In this paper we present the results of the tests on the new digital electronics GET (General Electronics for Tpc), which will be used for the readout of the CsI(Tl) detectors of CHIMERA (Charged Heavy Ion Mass and Energy Resolving Array) and for the new correlator FARCOS (Femtoscope ARray for COrrelations and Spectroscopy). The new electronics allows us to digitize the full waveform of the signals produced by the detector. Among its features it is worth noticing the compactness and low power consumption (5W for 256 channels). Tests have been performed with pulsers, radioactive sources and ion beams. With such electronics very good results in energy resolution and isotope separation of the detected fragments were obtained, by using both hardware and software filters.

Nuclear reactions between medium-mass nuclei at low bombarding energy are characterized by the competition between binary and evaporation processes in the compound nucleus decay. A study of the influence of the neutron richness of the entrance channel on the decay paths of the compound nuclei formed in the Kr-78 + Ca-40 and Kr-86 + Ca-48 at 10 MeV/A is presented. The experiment has been performed at Laboratori Nazionali del Sud by using the CHIMERA 4 pi multi-detector for charged particles. The kinematical characteristics of the two reactions support the conclusion of a production of the IMFs via long-lived system and the global features suggest a different competition among the various reaction channels. The cross sections of the mechanisms responsible for the fragments production have been extracted. Besides the results relative to the n-poorsystem are compared to those obtained at GANIL, performed at 5.5 A MeV, in order to study the energy influence on the mechanisms.
