Background: Due to changing population, culturally diverse clients with different perceptions of illness and health are present in healthcare settings. Therefore, it is increasingly important for nursing students to have high levels of cultural competence in order to meet diverse client needs. A training program is essential to enhance students' cultural competence. This study aimed to design, implement, and evaluate a cultural care-training program to improve cultural competence of undergraduate nursing students. Methods: This exploratory mixed methods study used six steps proposed in the Talbot and Verrinder model to design a training program. In the first step, a conventional qualitative study was conducted and 18 participants were interviewed using purposive sampling. In the second and third steps, literature review and the classic Delphi technique were used for initiation and finalization of the program. The fourth, fifth, and sixth steps were completed by implementing, monitoring, and evaluating the cultural care program (five two-hour sessions) among 73 nursing students using a quasi-experimental design. Finally, effectiveness of program was evaluated through the cultural care inventory before and 1 month after the program. Data were analyzed via SPSS25, independent samples t- test, paired t- test, chi-square test, analysis of covariance, and multivariate linear regression tests. Results: A systematic model was used to identify key elements of a cultural care program, including main topics, educational objectives and contents, assignments and activities for students, teaching and evaluation methods. The curricular objectives and educational contents were implemented in five sessions to produce measurable results. The quantitative step showed that nursing students' cultural competence in the intervention group (184.37 ± 22.43) improved significantly compared with the control group (153.19 ± 20.14) (t = 6.24, p = 0.001) after intervention. Conclusion: A cultural care training program can be designed by the model applied in this study in order to improve cultural competence of nursing students. This training program will be effective if students' learning needs, appropriate assignments, and acceptable teaching methods are addressed. Therefore, nurse educators can design comprehensive training programs to improve nursing students' cultural competence in different cultures and contexts. Introduction: Multicultural nursing care should be based on knowledge about cultural and religious beliefs and values, as well as the understanding of the influence of these unique customs and ways of thinking on the matters of health, life, disease, and dying. Aim of the research: To design and create an application as a tool to facilitate the work and improve the level of knowledge in healthcare in the field of transcultural medical care. Material and methods: The method of scientific literature review was used in choosing the thematic content. The review included a choice of content in terms of cultural and religious determinants in medical care for selected groups of patients. Results: The result of the research was the development of the TOM (Transcultural Medical Care) application tool, which contains the most important information in terms of the medical care of transcultural patients. The timetable and performance of the pre-implementation works: choice of religions, choice list of subjects, selecting the content for individual thematic blocks, final stage in this part of the research was to translate the contents into English. Conclusions: The application is a valuable tool, which can be used to obtain cultural competences by medical personnel during their education, and is also a tool that improves the professionalism amongst the medical workers. Background: Stronger healthcare models are increasingly sought to address new population needs, health workforce inefficiencies and nursing shortages. One strategy is to focus on employees' strengths to capitalize on their competencies and maximize their scope of practice. Introduction: Globally, there is an exponential demand for advanced practice nursing services. This study aimed to identify the roles and positions of nurses who align with APN defining criteria at all levels of care in Catalonia, Spain. Methods: The first step of the study included the translation and validation to Catalan of the Advanced Practice Nurse Role Delineation Tool (IDREPA) and step 2 comprised a multicentre cross‐sectional study, in which 126 healthcare centres participated: 1209 nurses were included in the study. The STROBE checklist was used to report this study. Results: Transcultural equivalence and validation of the instrument showed a content validity index of 0.958 and the reliability of the questionnaire. The instrument identified 269 nurses who align with international APN defined criteria. They worked in specialized care, mental healthcare and primary and community care, especially in chronic conditions, ageing and end‐of‐life care. Discussion: Most areas of Catalonia have access to nurses practicing at APN defining criteria. These nurses were developed as an optimal resource to respond to patient needs in the context of study. Both recognition and strategic implementation are necessary to apply their full competencies to solve healthcare problems. Conclusion: Understanding the supply of services delivered by nurses practicing at an advanced level and their scope of practice may lay the foundations for effective workforce planning in a dynamic context. Nurses who align with APN defining criteria are working mainly in large acute services without regulation and recognition. Implications for nursing: Advanced practice nurses show the value of their role and activities in healthcare services. Implications for health policy: Promoting the establishment of APN defining criteria that includes credentialing and a regulatory framework within international guidelines should be a priority to make an impact on healthcare policy. Introduction: Institutional care for children is a global phenomenon. Despite its advantages, common threats have been described. In Peru, more than 70% of institutionalized children/adolescents have living parents who cannot take care of them. The study aims to understand the care/rearing of institutionalized girls in Arequipa, Peru. Methodology: Ethnographic design, with a sample integrated by 27 institutionalized girls. Data collected based on participant observation and semi-structured interviews. The analysis followed the Method of Constant Comparisons. Results: Five main themes were found: (a) The little house (foster home) is better than my house; (b) They take care of me—even when I am sick—; (c) But...; (d) What I have lived is what I am; (e) Happiness fits in this little house. Discussion: An ethnography of care/rearing practices could be helpful for a better understanding of the dimensions of the life of institutionalized girls living in developing countries. Introduction: Culture-sensitive (CS) and patient-centered (PC) care are considered essential to achieve high-quality equitable care. The purpose of this study was to determine how expert nurses incorporate CS/PC care into their assessment and care planning practices, especially for culturally diverse and marginalized patients. Methodology: Using a qualitative, descriptive design, we conducted a focus group at the October 2019 Transcultural Nursing Society Conference. Participants (n = 9) discussed how they instilled cultural sensitivity and patient-centeredness into their assessment and care planning skills. Results: Participants revealed attitudes, knowledge, and skills associated with CS/PC assessment and care planning. They also identified specific strategies for translating CS/PC theory into assessment and care planning practices. Discussion: Three principles and many pragmatic strategies for incorporating CS/PC care into daily practice emerged from the data. Background: Nurses and midwives predominately work in western-centric health care settings, which may not align with Indigenous perspectives of health and wellbeing. Nurses and midwives will also view care through their own cultural lens. Culturally inappropriate health care can reduce access and engagement in services and contribute to reduced health outcomes for Indigenous peoples. Australian codes of conduct for nurses and midwives now advocate for care that is holistic, free of bias and racism, challenges beliefs based on assumption, and is culturally safe for Indigenous peoples. However, there are varying understandings of cultural care, what it looks like, and how to best achieve it. Aim: To highlight the importance of cultural safety in health care and discuss the integration into nursing and midwifery practice. Design: Discussion paper. Discussion: Cultural safety has emerged in Australia as the framework to improve the access and quality of health care for Indigenous people and to improve disparities in health care outcomes. However, the application of these principles for nurses and midwives has not been widely explored. Misconceptions around the concept remain despite the inclusion in national standards and practice frameworks. Conclusion: Evaluation and research that contributes to evidence-based knowledge specifically on the integration of cultural safety in nursing and midwifery practice is required. Impact Statement: This paper provides an overview of the importance of cultural safety in nursing and midwifery practice. Although cultural safety is now embedded in professional codes and standards, there is limited evidence of how this is translated to clinical care. PURPOSE: The aim of this study was to examine the relationship between acculturation, medication adherence, lifestyle behaviors (e.g., physical activity, nutrition, weight control), and blood pressure control among hypertensive Arab Americans. DESIGN: The study utilized a cross-sectional descriptive design. A convenience sample of 126 participants completed questionnaires and had measures of blood pressure, weight, and height. Forty-six participants were hypertensive and were included in the analysis. RESULTS: Only 29.2% of participants reported high medication adherence. High medication adherence was associated with lower diastolic blood pressure, eating a healthy diet, and following lifestyle modifications. Acculturation was significantly associated with physical activity and body mass index. CONCLUSION: Our study found that acculturated participants were more adherent to medications and physical activity and had better blood pressure control. Further studies are needed to explore how acculturation improves adherence and what factors contribute to better adherence in order to design culturally sensitive interventions.

Objective: to investigate in the literature the application of transcultural nursing teaching for undergraduate nursing students. Method: integrative review of articles published between 2011 and 2021 through searches on Medline, Lilacs, BDENF and IBECS, based on the guiding question: What is the approach of the literature on the application of transcultural nursing education for undergraduate nursing students? Results: a total of 92 articles were found, of which 10 were included in this review. It was identified that mini-courses and workshops on transcultural nursing and cultural exchanges increase students' cultural competence, thus having a positive impact on the attitudes of future nurses. Renewals of curricula and preparation of teachers should be considered for the improvement of transcultural nursing teaching. Final considerations: the teaching of transcultural nursing for undergraduate nursing students should not be limited to theoretical classes, but should also be emphasized through practical teaching. Objective: To report the experience of the nursing consultation in childcare to the refugee puerpera and her newborn in the perspective of health education, according to Leininger's Transcultural Theory. Methods: This article is an experience report, which occurred through the internship in Primary Health Care from April to July 2020, from the virtual and face-to-face nursing consultation performed by residents, tutors and preceptors of the Neonatal Nursing Residency. Results: The experience enabled the reflection about the specialist nurse role in childcare nursing consultation, which proved to be a space for reflection, exchange of cultural and social knowledge. Conclusion: It is concluded that the consultation enabled nurses to apply skills and knowledge in the care of the puerperal woman and newborn, in addition to the possibility of building strategies for attending the nursing consultation in childcare, transcending the standardized models, for a cross-cultural consultation. Objective: Two percent of the Japanese population is comprised of foreign residents with further increase expected due to immigration policy revisions. The purpose of this paper is to examine the healthcare needs and difficulties experienced by foreign residents in Japan by level of their Japanese language fluency. Design: A quantitative, descriptive design was used. Sample: We surveyed foreign residents in the greater Tokyo area (N = 209). Measurements: The research team created the survey questions and the contents of the survey include foreign residents' experiences during their visits or stays at medical and public health facilities in Japan. Results: More than 90% of the participants or their families visited medical facilities in Japan regardless of Japanese language fluency; however, those with less Japanese language fluency experienced statistically significant uneasiness or inconvenience concerning communication compared to those with native Japanese language fluency (p =.000). Conclusions: Nurses in Japan may benefit from additional training related to use of interpreters as well as education about diversity and cultural humility. Objectives: Guam is a United States territory situated in the western Pacific Ocean with a multiethnic population numbering approximately 168,000. The CHamorus, who are the Indigenous people of Guam, make up 37%. In this study, we sought to explore CHamorus' perspectives on and experiences of COVID‐19. Design: Interviews were conducted with 10 CHamoru adults in June‐July 2020 via telephone for a larger study on understanding how the collective history of the CHamoru people is perceived relative to contemporary health beliefs and practices. This study is a secondary data analysis of questions that focused on COVID‐19. We used thematic analysis techniques to analyze the data. Results: Three themes were identified: self and other, or "no man is an island"; trust in government; and focusing on the positives. A cross‐cutting theme was commitment to the common welfare of the community through interconnectedness and inafa'maolek (doing good for others). Conclusion: Results indicated that CHamorus recognized a balance between community and individual, the need to protect the vulnerable while also considering personal choice, and the implications of enforced social distancing on community and economic stability. People seeking asylum are at risk of receiving poorer quality healthcare due, in part, to racist and discriminatory attitudes, behaviours and policies in the health system. Despite fleeing war and conflict; exposure to torture and traumatic events and living with uncertainty; people seeking asylum are at high‐risk of experiencing long‐term poor physical and mental health outcomes in their host country. This article aims to raise awareness and bring attention to some common issues people seeking asylum face when seeking healthcare in high‐income countries where the health system is dominated by a Western biomedical view of health. Clinical case scenarios are used to highlight instances of racist healthcare policies and practices that create and maintain ongoing health disparities; limited access to culturally and linguistically appropriate health services, and lack of trauma‐informed approaches to care. Nurses and midwives can play an important role in countering racism in healthcare settings; by identifying and calling out discriminatory practice and modelling tolerance, respect and empathy in daily practice. We present recommendations for individuals, organisations and governments that can inform changes to policies and practices that will reduce racism and improve health equity for people seeking asylum. Introduction: To understand premature birth through perceptions of families with premature babies admitted to neonatal intensive care unit from a cross-cultural perspective. Materials and methods: An exploratory-descriptive qualitative study was conducted through participant observation and semi-structured interviews with 16 relatives of premature babies admitted to the neonatal intensive care unit of a maternity hospital in the state of Bahia. R Software was used for multidimensional analysis of texts and questionnaires and content analysis. Results: Four categories were established: premature babies with their particularities in family's perceptions; family's feelings caused by premature birth; spirituality as a strategy to give meaning to premature birth; and premature birth from professional healthcare. Discussion: Understanding the experiences of families in the neonatal environment can contribute to healthcare professionals and institutions reorienting their practices to target integrality of care by identifying the particularities of each family and recognizing their cultural diversity. Conclusions: Understanding the needs and culture of families contributes to the provision of more humane and effective care in which the family plays a part in planning and decision making on integral care of their premature baby, not only highlighting biological factors but also social and psychological factors that comprehensively involve the premature baby and their family. Study abroad experiences offer nursing students the opportunity to develop cultural competence and sensitivity while providing care within the context of a different culture. Debriefing is a strategy that engages students in conversation and active reflection to process emotions, examine personal values, and synthesize knowledge gained from active learning experiences. While debriefing can enhance learning outcomes in study abroad programs, there is currently a paucity of literature that explores its use within the context of study abroad. In this article, we describe a structured debriefing approach we use in an international community health clinical experience. Introduction: European societies are rapidly becoming multicultural. Cultural diversity presents new challenges and opportunities to communities that receive immigrants and migrants, and highlights the need for culturally safe healthcare. Universities share a responsibility to build a fair and equitable society by integrating cultural content in the nursing curricula. This paper aims to analyze European student nurses´ experience of learning cultural competence and of working with patients from diverse cultural backgrounds. Materials and methods: A phenomenological approach was selected through a qualitative research method. 7 semi-structured focus groups with 5–7 students took place at the participants' respective universities in Spain, Belgium, Turkey and Portugal. Results: 5 themes and 16 subthemes emerged from thematic analysis. Theme 1, concept of culture/cultural diversity, describes the participants' concept of culture; ethnocentricity emerged as a frequent element in the students' discourse. Theme 2, personal awareness, integrates the students' self-perception of cultural competence and their learning needs. Theme 3, impact of culture, delves on the participants' perceived impact of cultural on both nursing care and patient outcomes. Theme 4, learning cultural competence, integrates the participants' learning experiences as part of their nursing curricula, as part of other academic learning opportunities and as part of extra-academic activities. Theme 5, learning cultural competence during practice placements, addresses some important issues including witnessing unequal care, racism, prejudice and conflict, communication and language barriers, tools and resources and positive attitudes and behaviors witnesses or displayed during clinical practice. Conclusion: The participants' perceived level of cultural competence was variable. All the participants agreed that transcultural nursing content should be integrated in the nursing curricula, and suggested different strategies to improve their knowledge, skills and attitudes. Introduction: The lack of standard guidelines in efforts to increase community capacity in disaster management is one of the factors that causes these efforts to run ineffective. In fact, the community should be equipped to have the awareness to be proactive in disaster management in their area. As professional nurses are expected to be able to take strategic steps in empowering the community in disaster management in line with the values held by the community in each area with the Transcultural Nursing approach. This study aims to identify, develop, and implement a Peer Group (Kelompok Sebaya=POKBAYA) empowerment model through the Disaster Recognition School Children (Anak Sekolah kenal bencana = ASAL KENA) program in strengthening disaster preparedness in vulnerable areas using the Transcultural Nursing Approach. Methods: This study uses a mixed method approach between quantitative research and qualitative research which consists of 3 stages of research. Namely the exploration stage, the model preparation stage and the model development stage. Results: The three intervention groups had an increased average preparedness index and had a significant effect. The value of p = 0.000 = 0.05 in the three measurement domains shows that there is a significant effect of Pokbaya "Asalkena" training in increasing knowledge, attitudes and skills. In this cross‐sectional study, we explored the current status and the correlates of self‐perceived transcultural self‐efficacy among nurses working in a tertiary hospital in Hangzhou, China. A total of 336 nurses (age range, 24–50 years) completed the Chinese version of the Transcultural Self‐Efficacy Tool. The majority of respondents were female (94.64%), and 67.26% were government employees. Between group differences were assessed using the rank sum test. Most nurses had a below‐moderate level of self‐perceived transcultural self‐efficacy in all subscales (Cognitive [67.69%]; Practical [71.65%], Affective [66.75%]). Age, professional title, employment type, and income level had a significant influence on all three subscale scores of the survey instrument. Our findings highlight the need for inclusion of transcultural nursing in the continuing education curricula for nurses. Nursing managers should target continuing education based on the demographic characteristics of nurses. Hospital managers should consider minimizing the pay disparity between government‐employed and temporary nurses. Our objective is to critically review the literature addressing the strategic role of nurses in the daily primary care of arterial hypertension in Indigenous communities in Brazil. We selected studies based on an initial keyword search of major bibliographic indexing databases for the years 2000 to 2020 and manual search. Further selection was based on topical, methodological, and thematic relevance, as well as evaluation of scholarship quality and pertinence to our chosen narrative. The literature demonstrates Indigenous peoples do not receive health services that measure up to national standards in large part due to a marked lack of academic and employer preparation for nurses operating in transcultural settings. Inequities were apparent in recurrent reports of victim-blaming, deficient clinical communication with patients, clinical malpractice, devaluation of hypertension as a problem for Indigenous peoples, insufficient intercultural training for nurses, and discrimination against Indigenous students in nursing education programs. This systemic problem needs to be addressed by universities and the Indigenous Health Care Subsystem in Brazil. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Cultural competence comprises understanding the values, beliefs, traditions, and customs of diverse groups. Nurses working with a culturally diverse population are fronting challenges principally due to the coexistence of multicultural and multiethnic societies. Objective: To assess cultural competency nursing care and its associated factors among nurses working in Amhara Regional State Referral Hospitals, Ethiopia, 2021. Methods: Institution-based mixed method study design was conducted at selected referral hospitals in Amhara Regional state Ethiopia from April 1 to May 30, 2021. A simple random sampling technique was used to select 543 participants for quantitative and purposive sampling for qualitative study. Data were collected using a self-administered Nurse Cultural Competence Scale Questionnaire, and semi-structured questions for in-depth interviews. Data were entered into Epi data version 4.6 and exported to SPSS version 25 analysis. Descriptive statistics independent t-test and one-way analysis of variance with multiple linear regression analysis were used for data analysis. Qualitative data were analyzed using thematic analysis using open code software. Results: A total of 543 participants were involved in this study making a response rate of 95.02% and seven participants for qualitative until data saturation was involved. More than half (54.5%) were female. The overall cultural competence nursing care of mean score was 3.39 (0.61) out of a total possible score ranging from 1 to 5 which indicates a moderate level of cultural competency. The language barriers, lack of organizational support, cultural difference, and health care provider-related factors were the main identified themes in qualitative results. Conclusion and Recommendation: The overall cultural competence was at a moderate level, among four subscales cultural sensitivity was the highest. The purpose of this theoretical article is to analyze the utility of postcolonial and Indigenous feminist frameworks in informing nursing research and practice specific to addressing intimate partner violence (IPV) in the lives of Indigenous women. Prevailing feminist narratives of the 20th century focused overwhelmingly on patriarchy as the sole source of oppression against women and root cause of IPV. These narratives failed to consider the complex historical ways in which patriarchy intersected with colonialism and racism to produce violence, affecting the contemporary realities of Indigenous women. In contrast, postcolonial and Indigenous feminist frameworks consider the colonial history that has disempowered Indigenous women and their nations over centuries of settler occupation. Situating IPV within historical, legal, social, and political contexts can unmask how current research and health care discourses may continue to constrain, rather than improve, access, care, and services for Indigenous victims of IPV. Introduction: The coronavirus pandemic has disproportionately negatively affected the ultraorthodox in Israel. Their unique characteristics and slow adoption of preventative health guidelines resulted in a significant increase in morbidity and mortality. To lower these rates, health and government authority figures employed methods to change the ultraorthodox community health behaviors. Methodology: This study utilizes the ACCESS model for transcultural nursing to analyze the response by authorities to high infection rates in the large ultraorthodox community in city of Beit Shemesh during the first wave of the outbreak (through early May). Results: The authorities employed all model components to varying degrees and found moderate success in changing health behaviors of the ultraorthodox. Discussion: Employing the ACCESS model as a response to the health care crisis among the ultraorthodox community in Beit Shemesh led to some success in increased compliance, thus lowering morbidity rates. Aim: This study aimed to assess the effectiveness of a programme designed to promote global health competency among nursing students. Design: It used a randomized pre–post‐test comparison group design to compare the effects of a global health competency programme among nursing students. Methods: Data collection for the pre‐test was carried out for 2 days (25–26 October 2018) and that of post‐test was conducted for 2 days (23–24 December 2018). A total of 38 fourth‐year nursing students participated in this study (14 in the international nursing group, 11 in the transcultural nursing group and 13 in the complementary and alternative medicine group). The participants were from the nursing department of a university in Cheongju. Results: There were no statistically significant differences between the groups in the pre‐test homogeneity test. The international nursing group showed statistically significant improvements between the pre‐ and post‐tests in global health competency, cultural competency, global health confidence and cultural nursing confidence. As a result of extensive international migration, the number of elderly migrants has increased and will further increase in the future. This makes it necessary for elderly healthcare services to meet elderly migrants’ healthcare needs concerning language and cultural barriers. To our knowledge, previous research in the area of culturally specific nursing homes for migrant seniors is still limited. Thus, the study aimed to investigate the experiences of planning, starting and organizing a culturally specific nursing home for Finnish-speaking older persons. Methods An explorative qualitative study using both semi-structured individual interviews and focus group interviews as data collection. Thirteen informants were purposively recruited, two from Finnish-speaking association, seven healthcare professionals and two family members. Data were analysed by qualitative content analysis. Results Three categories, each with sub-categories, emerged from the data: 1) Motivation to develop this particular culture-specific nursing home; 2) Organizational issues and 3) Aspirations for the future. The study found that information from policy makers, the localization and activities of the nursing home, having healthcare staff who speak the minority language, organizing the nursing home as a mixture of older members of both the majority and the minority communities, all affected the planning, starting and organization of a culturally specific nursing home. Conclusion This study found that information, localization, activities and language adapted to elderly migrants affected the planning, starting and organization of a culturally specific nursing home for Finnish-speaking older persons. These findings should support the healthcare organization in planning, managing and organizing sustainable nursing home care for older people belonging to a minority in order to attain the aim of person-centered and equal healthcare.

Introduction: Providing additional food other than breast milk before 2-year-old babies in Kupang City are babies given "regal" biscuits, "milcuit" biscuits, and "banana" s because the baby does not feel hungry. Providing "regal" biscuits, "milna" and "banana" biscuits as a complement to give breastfeeding before the age of 2 years because parents believe these biscuits can eliminate hunger for the baby. The purpose of this study was to explain the effect of Transcultural Nursing-based health education on knowledge, attitudes, actions of mothers, and family support in breastfeeding. Methods: The design of this study was a Pre-Experimental study using quantitative data. Samples of 30 breastfeeding mothers who visited the Bakunase Public Health Center in Kupang City of East Nusa Tenggara and were obtained using the total sampling technique. Data obtained from the knowledge questionnaire, attitude questionnaire, action questionnaire, and social and family support questionnaire were then analyzed using the Wilcoxon statistical test. Results: The results showed that there was an influence of transcultural nursing-based health education on knowledge, attitudes, mother actions, social and family support in breastfeeding with a significant value of p=0.000. Conclusion: Transcultural nursing-based health education influences maternal knowledge, maternal attitudes, and family support for mothers in breastfeeding. Subsequent researchers can then carry out transcultural nursing-based health education research on different targets. They can analyze factors related to knowledge, attitudes, actions, and family support for nursing mothers.

Background: The essence of transcultural nursing is to guide nursing students in order to be able to provide nursing care based on patients’ needs and their cultural backgrounds. To transfer the knowledge and attitude of the transcultural nursing effectively among generation Z students, an android-based module can be used and it is considered effective. Objective: This study aimed to determine the effect of using an android-based module on the knowledge and attitudes of nursing students regarding the provision of transcultural nursing. Methods: This study employed a quasi-experiment with a non-equivalent control group design. Ninety-four students were selected using a purposive sampling, which forty-seven were assigned in an android-based module group and a printed-module group. Data were measured using knowledge and attitude questionnaires about transcultural nursing, and perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use questionnaire for android-based modules. Data were analyzed using paired t-test and independent t-test with a significance level of < .05. Results: There was a significant effect of both android and printed based modules on knowledge of transcultural nursing (p .05). Based on the Independent t-test, there was no significant difference in students' knowledge and attitude about transcultural nursing between both groups (p >.05). However, the android-based module was considered useful (97.9%) with a mean value of 44, and was easy to use (91.5%) with a median value of 40. Conclusion: The use of both printed-based module and android-based module is effective to increase the students’ knowledge and attitudes about transcultural nursing.

A well-balanced diet is one of the four pillars of diabetes self-management. Patient's culture strongly influences intake food. Diabetic dietary guidelines which fit with the patient's culture is expected to improve patient's self-efficacy and diet compliance. This study was aimed to analyze the effect of ethnic foods diet program in improving self-efficacy and diet compliance among Type-2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM) patients. This was quasy experiment research with pre and post-test control design. The population was 112 T2DM patients from Sasak Tribes, West Nusa Tenggara. Samples were 36 respondents, divided into intervention (18) and control (18) groups. The independent variable was the ethnic food diet (EFD) program, while the dependent variables were patient's self-efficacy and diet compliance. Data were collected using self-efficacy questionnaire and a 24-hour dietary recall form. Data were then analyzed using Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test and Mann Whitney U Test. The result showed differences in self-efficacy between pre and post-test in the treatment group (p=0,001), but there were no differences in the control group. There were differences in diet compliance in the treatment group (p=0,001), but there were no differences in the control group. There were differences between treatment and control groups on self-efficacy (p=0,000) and diet compliance (p=0,000). Ethnic foods diet program can improve self-efficacy and diet compliance among T2DM patients because more comfortable and easier to be applied. Nurses can apply ethnic foods diet program as an intervention to promote healthy diet for T2DM patients.

Objective: To understand the experiences and vulnerabilities for cross-cultural nursing care for immigrant women during pregnancy and delivery., Method: Exploratory, qualitative research, in the light of the Theory of Diversity and Universality of Cultural Care, in Foz do Iguaçu, Brazil, through interviews with eight postpartum woman and 18 nurses, between February and September 2022. The interpretation of meanings was adopted for analysis., Results: The categories of analysis emerged: Experiences, vulnerabilities and acculturation of immigrant women during pregnancy and delivery; Cross-cultural care and vulnerabilities experienced by immigrants in Brazilian health services. Vulnerabilities were identified in Cultural and Social Structure Dimensions expressed in access to work, low socioeconomic conditions, lack of family and social support and specific services for this population. The potentialities experienced included good care provided by health services, quality of the multidisciplinary team and appreciation of professional knowledge, however, the understanding of expectations and cultural aspects needs to be deepened., Final Considerations: Understand that immigrant women experience situations of vulnerability in pregnancy and childbirth, in the Brazilian context, mainly related to social and programmatic dimensions. However, potentialities were also experienced, evidenced by positive aspects in cross-cultural nursing care in Brazil.

Background: In Canada, the healthcare experiences and needs of Muslim women who wear Islamic head coverings are conflated with the larger Muslim community who do not wear Islamic head coverings. Understanding their specific and unique preferences and challenges is essential for tailoring care and improving healthcare encounters., Purpose: The study purpose is to explore the healthcare encounters of Muslim women wearing Islamic head coverings in Canada, focusing on how discourse influences their narratives., Methods: A postructuralist narrative methodology was used to understand how power, knowledge, language, and discourse impacted their experiences. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with eight Muslim women. Objectives: To map the current evidence about the health concerns and the potential solutions related to the Islamic pilgrimage to Mecca., Design: A scoping review was applied. Papers published in English between 2012 and 2023 were included but non-human research and sources without any related data were excluded. Data charting and extraction were used to map the current evidence., Results: The total of 36 papers were included with the total number of pilgrims of 17,075,887. The majority of studies were published in the Asia Pacific region (36.11%) as original articles (88.89%). The health concerns were grouped into five main aspects. There were 7603 deaths recorded or about 44 incidences of deaths per 100,000 pilgrims during the pilgrimage. There were recorded 11,018; 6178; 3393; and 17,810 cases for communicable diseases; non-communicable diseases; injuries and trauma; and health services (i.e., cardiac catheterization) and vaccination, respectively., Conclusion: Relating to the five health concerns, this study identified the top seven issues in each category (i.e., hypertension, influenza vaccination), except for the death record. Moreover, there were three solutions (for general health, non- and communicable-diseases) presented. Objectives: To clarify the conceptual structure of "cultural competence (CC)" among Japanese public health nurses (PHNs), to enhance culturally appropriate support., Methods: A modified grounded theory approach (M-GTA) was used. A total of 11 municipal PHNs participated in this study. Data were collected through semistructured interviews. Interviews were audiotaped and transcribed. A comparative analysis was performed using M-GTA., Result: Five categories were identified. Japanese PHNs supported foreign residents while (1) maintaining a sincere attitude with curiosity and humility toward others regarding CC; (2) deepening their realization of issues arising from awareness of one's own and other cultures; (3) developing their knowledge about clients' cultures and the surrounding environments; and (4) mastering the skills of building a relationship with clients while creating supportive systems surrounding them. As they gained more experience in supporting foreign residents, as indicated in the above categories, their cultural competence grew, allowing them to (5) gain experience while encountering individuals without holding stereotypes and prejudice., Conclusions: The concepts of CC that emerged are based on cultural humility and are cultivated through supportive activities. When assessing the fragility that characterizes the health of an immigrant person, a culturally competent transformation of the nurse–patient teaching-learning process is necessary. Therefore, it is considered essential to incorporate cultural competence and intercultural communication in higher nursing education. Objective: To determine the content and knowledge of cultural competence and intercultural communication offered in higher education in nursing courses. Design: The Campinha-Bacote model of cultural competence was used as the primary reference. Method: A scoping review was conducted about studies published in the period 2003 and 2020. The research was conducted between May and October 2020. More than a hundred documents (books, chapters, articles, conference proceedings) have been consulted. Results: Undergraduate nursing courses and postgraduate education move toward promoting cultural competence and sensitivity through teaching strategies. Conclusions: Teaching projects that combine multiple competencies are more effective, including teacher training. A predominant element is a need for continuous and transversal projects. Background: In the context of demographic aging, active aging must be encouraged. In addition, the increase in life expectancy requires specific care for the elderly. Therefore, it is important to ensure appropriate training and education to caregivers. Educational institutions put value in positively influencing the attitudes and behaviours towards elderly people in order to ensure the quality of patient care in the future. Questionnaires are often used to assess attitudes. Among them, the University of California, Los Angeles Geriatrics Attitudes Scale (UCLA-GAS) was developed to assess attitudes towards older people and caring for older patients. This scale has been used to evaluate attitude of healthcare professionals and students including undergraduate physiotherapy students. To our knowledge, there is no scale that assesses the same concept in French. Therefore, this study aimed to translate and adapt the UCLA-GAS into French and to test its psychometric properties. Methods: We conducted this study in two phases. First, we translated and adapted the UCLA-GAS from English into French following the five recommended stages of cross-cultural adaptation. Second, we validated the French version of the scale with undergraduate physiotherapy students. One hundred nineteen students participated from the first to the third academic years. We estimated reliability and validity of the scale. We performed correlation analyses between the French version of the UCLA-GAS (UCLA-GAS-F) with the Aging Stereotypes and Exercise Scale (ASES) and the Attitudes to Aging Questionnaire (AAQ). Results: The scale was translated and adapted into French. Results of the validation phase showed that the UCLA-GAS-F had high test-retest reliability (ICC 0.83, 95%CI 0.74–0.89), but internal consistency below 0.7 (Cronbach's alpha 0.49 to 0.57). The scale showed no ceiling or floor effect. As expected, the French version showed a weak correlation to the ASES (r = 0.28, p =.003) and to the AAQ (r = 0.32, p =.001). Conclusions: Despite low internal consistency, the French version of the UCLA-GAS showed appropriate psychometric properties. Aim: To identify and analyse the cultural attitudes, beliefs and practices of internationally educated nurses towards end‐of‐life care in the context of cancer. Background: Cultural heritage shape beliefs and practices about cancer and end of life, which complicates nursing care delivery. While previous studies centred on diverse patients' perspectives and cultural competence of healthcare professionals, little analysis available focusing on the cultural attitudes and beliefs of care providers from diverse backgrounds. Design: Mixed methods systematic review. Data sources: CINAHL, MEDLINE, Embase, PsychINFO and Scopus were searched between January and March 2020. No date limit was applied. Review methods: Quality appraisal was conducted using the mixed‐method appraisal tool. Convergent segregated synthesis was undertaken. Findings were thematically synthesised with the final synthesis presented narratively. Results: Seven studies were included: three qualitative, two quantitative and two mixed methods. None of the studies focused on the end‐of‐life care experiences of IENs in the context of cancer. One study reported views on cancer, with all studies analysing the cultural attitudes, beliefs and practices of internationally educated nurses towards end‐of‐life care. Three main themes were identified: the philosophy of care, approaches to care and perceptions of death and dying. Conclusion: The distinct gap in research on understanding the cultural attitudes and beliefs of internationally educated nurses in end‐of‐life care in the context of cancer demands further research. Several aspects of end‐of‐life care were in conflict with internationally educated nurses' cultural attitudes, beliefs and practices. As these nurses are integral in achieving culturally competent care, further understanding of this phenomenon is required to advance the delivery of culturally sensitive care to patients. Impact: Stakeholders, including the nursing workforce, need to play an active role in providing a culturally inclusive workplace. Introduction: Increased migration may lead to an increase in prejudiced attitudes in the host population, which may affect the nursing care provided to this group. Objectives: To identify the attitudes of nursing students toward Moroccan patients and to analyze whether changes in attitude toward this population have taken place after completing a course on cross-culturalism. Method: A quasi-experimental design with a single group and pretest/posttest measurements. The sample consisted of 116 nursing students. Results: There were significant differences after receiving the course on cross-culturalism, with a more positive influence on students who exhibited the most negative attitudes in the pretest phase. Discussion: Nursing students have negative attitudes toward the Moroccan population as do the rest of the host population, but these attitudes improve after their training in the course on cross-culturalism. Introduction: This study developed and validated the Clients' Perceptions of Providers' Cultural Competency instrument. Method: A sequential exploratory mixed design identified three constructs derived from the studies of Leininger and others. Constructs were compared with publications on cultural competency. A panel of experts reviewed for content validity. Results: Three hundred and nine mostly Asians and Native Hawaiians completed the questionnaire. Twenty-two items with item-to-total correlation coefficients >.2 were retained. Overall instrument Cronbach's alpha was.89. Construct validity demonstrated the three constructs accounted for 49.6% of variance supported by distinct items with Cronbach's alphas of.82,.83, and.76, respectively. Preliminary criterion validity revealed no statistically significant differences in scores based on the location of services received or race/ethnicity. Discussion: The Clients' Perceptions of Providers' Cultural Competency instrument is congruent with nursing principles of equity and justice by measuring provider cultural competency from a client's perspective. Introduction: Female genital mutilation/cutting (FGM/C) is a practice, in breach of human rights, which currently extends to European countries. Given that migration to a Western country can involve cultural change, the aim of the present study is to explore the experiences and perceptions of sub-Saharan women regarding FGM/C following migration to Spain. Method: A qualitative exploratory research design utilizing life history methodology was applied. Participants (n = 24) were recruited until data saturation was reached. Results: Sub-Saharan women describe their experience of FGM/C. Once in Spain, they begin to demystify the justifications for which FGM/C is practiced and to break the taboo that surrounds the practice. Discussion: Migration leads individuals to reflect on the traditional practices from their countries of origin. The nursing profession must accompany migrant women throughout their process of change and provide objective information from a position of cultural understanding, avoiding attitudes that might create a sense of revictimization while their resultant health consequences are being attended to. Objective: Vulnerable populations like the remaining Quilombola community need health care tailored to their demands and needs. The purpose of this study is to discuss the role of nursing in promoting sustainability in vulnerable communities. Methods: Reflective study based on the Theory of Culture Care, nursing competencies, and on the concept of sustainability. Results: Nurses must be sensitive to cultural differences inserting themselves in care planning strategies as nursing actions must consider the cultural values of individuals. Health practices developed by nurses, in the perspective of health promotion, must consider the empowerment of vulnerable populations through sustainable actions, enabling socioeconomic improvements and reflecting on environmental well-being and health. Conclusion: Nurses must perform ethical care considering cultural particularities and promoting health through sustainable practices.
