Abstract

δ15N-NH4+ of dairy manure compost piles with and without bulking agent (10% w / w) were compared to understand the significant mitigation of N2O emission by the use of bulking agent. δ15N-NH4+ of each locations of the pile (top, side and core) were also compared. Piles with bulking agent showed significantly higher δ15N values (17.7 ± 1.3‰) than that of the piles without bulking agent (11.8 ± 0.9‰) at the end of the process, reflecting significant higher nitrogen conversion and NH3 loss occurred in the pile with bulking agent. The pile top samples, especially in the piles with bulking agent, showed very high NH4+ concentrations with significant high 15N (δ15N: 12.7-29.8‰) values, indicating extremely high nitrogen conversion, nitrification-denitrification activity of the microbes and NH3 volatilization occurred in this zone. Abstract

This paper presents the development of an atmospheric N2O isotopocule model based on a chemistry-coupled atmospheric general circulation model (ACTM). We also describe a simple method to optimize the model and present its use in estimating the isotopic signatures of surface sources at the hemispheric scale. Data obtained from ground-based observations, measurements of firn air, and balloon and aircraft flights were used to optimize the long-term trends, interhemispheric gradients, and photolytic fractionation, respectively, in the model. This optimization successfully reproduced realistic spatial and temporal variations of atmospheric N2O isotopocules throughout the atmosphere from the surface to the stratosphere. The very small gradients associated with vertical profiles through the troposphere and the latitudinal and vertical distributions within each hemisphere were also reasonably simulated. The results of the isotopic characterization of the global total sources were generally consistent with previous one-box model estimates, indicating that the observed atmospheric trend is the dominant factor controlling the source isotopic signature. However, hemispheric estimates were different from those generated by a previous two-box model study, mainly due to the model accounting for the interhemispheric transport and latitudinal and vertical distributions of tropospheric N2O isotopocules. Comparisons of time series of atmospheric N2O isotopocule ratios between our model and observational data from several laboratories revealed the need for a more systematic and elaborate intercalibration of the standard scales used in N2O isotopic measurements in order to capture a more complete and precise picture of the temporal and spatial variations in atmospheric N2O isotopocule ratios. Abstract

We have performed a measurement of optical absorption in multiferroic MnWO4 in high magnetic fields. This material undergoes magnetic-field-induced successive phase transitions at low temperatures. The spectrum of the optical absorption originating from spin-forbidden d-d excitations at Mn2+ ions was found to change with the phase transitions. The observed magnetochromism suggests that the magnetic moments align approximately along the b axis in the high-field (HF) paraelectric phase above 12 T. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

Ovarian and endometrial cancers diagnosed at advanced stages are often associated with malignant ascites. This study aimed to determine the safety, feasibility and efficacy of intraperitoneal (IP) docetaxel (TXT) for the treatment of ascites. A phase I study, including nine patients, was undertaken to determine the maximum tolerable dose. Efficacy was retrospectively assessed in 18 patients treated with 40-70 mg/m(2) IP TXT between 2005 and 2012. In a phase I study, the dose was safely escalated to a maximum of 70 mg/m(2), at which level no patients had grade -3 haematological adverse events. In a retrospective study of 18 patients, seven had an Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group performance status of 3; 16 had prior paclitaxel administration and two, with doses of 40 and 70 mg/m(2), experienced a serological response and a decrease in paracentesis. Thus, palliative treatment of recurrent OC should be further studied with 40 mg/m(2) among more patients, and 70 mg/m(2) could be evaluated for first-line IP chemotherapy. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

Phase transitions in charge and orbital degrees of freedom occur successively in the A-site ordered perovskite manganite SmBaMn2O6 at TCO1≈370K and TCO2≈190K. To determine the 3d electronic state in each phase, we performed crystal structure analyses on a single-crystal sample at 150, 300, and 400 K using synchrotron x-ray diffraction. The results indicate that the charge and orbital ordering on the distorted and alternately tilted MnO6 octahedra should accompany electric polarization in each MnO2 layer. The stacking of the polarized MnO2 layers along the c axis changes from a staggered configuration to a ferroic configuration at TCO2. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

Through-silicon-via (TSV) process of which process temperature is less than 180 degree C (°C) has been accomplished by using ZrBO dielectric film and WN barrier film. Integration of ZrBO and WN, both being Carbon free, capable to deposit at low temperature and showing high barrier performance, would result in high reliability in Cu interconnect. The diameter of 5μm (Φ5μm) TSV was formed by anisotropie etching with non-Bosch process, which we call “scallop-free”, and the aspect ratio was about 10 (AR10). The sidewall roughness is below 15nm.
