The content of polyphenols and metal elements in tea has an important impact on the choice of consumers. In this study, we conducted a comparative analysis of ten elements including Fe, Mg, Al, Zn, Cu, Mn, Ni, Cr, Pb, and As in 122 representative tea samples from 20 provinces. The results showed that the difference of metal content among six tea categories was greater than that among provinces, and the overall metal content of black tea was relatively higher. The contents of all elements from high to low were: Mg > Mn > Al > Fe > Zn > Cu > Ni > Cr > Pb > As. The contents of Ni, Fe, Al, Zn and Mn showed significant differences among multiple types of tea categories. While the detection rates of Pb and As were 10.7 and 24.6%, respectively. The contents of all elements were in line with the national limit standards. Meanwhile, the relative contents of theanine, caffeine and a total of 53 polyphenolic compounds in 122 tea samples were detected. The analysis showed that the content of these compounds differed least between green and yellow tea, and the largest difference between black tea and oolong tea. This study provides important support for consumers to choose tea rationally.

Aqueous film-forming foams (AFFFs) are the primary source of toxic perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in wastewater. Thus, it is urgent to develop a facile and fast method for identifying fluorosurfactants in commercially available AFFFs. In this work, fluorine nuclear magnetic resonance (19F NMR) spectroscopy was optimized to measure AFFFs directly with the extra addition of 5% D2O as the locking reagent, and high-quality spectra could be acquired within 4 min (0.1% fluorosurfactant content). Recovery experiments demonstrated that the use of different AFFFs had no marked influence on the quantitative analysis of fluorosurfactants. Such method works with low-field NMR spectroscopy (1.4 T) as well. Two-dimensional (2D) 19F COSY NMR was used to make signal assignments for different fluorosurfactant derivatives. The optimized 19F NMR could quantify the commercially available fluorosurfactants in different AFFFs, identify them being in either the perfluorooctane sulfonate (PFOS) or fluorotelomer sulfonic acid (FTS) categories, and distinguish the head-group of PFOS and FTS derivatives, which exhibits great potentials in the developments of relevant commercial detections.

IntroductionTrichoderma species establish symbiotic relationships with plants through both parasitic and mutualistic mechanisms. While some Trichoderma species act as plant pathogenic fungi, others utilize various strategies to protect and enhance plant growth.MethodsPhylogenetic positions of new species of Trichoderma were determined through multi-gene analysis relying on the internal transcribed spacer (ITS) regions of the ribosomal DNA, the translation elongation factor 1-α (tef1-α) gene, and the RNA polymerase II (rpb2) gene. Additionally, pathogenicity experiments were conducted, and the aggressiveness of each isolate was evaluated based on the area of the cross-section of the infected site.ResultsIn this study, 13 Trichoderma species, including 9 known species and 4 new species, namely, T. delicatum, T. robustum, T. perfasciculatum, and T. subulatum were isolated from the diseased tubers of Gastrodia elata in Yunnan, China. Among the known species, T. hamatum had the highest frequency. T. delicatum belonged to the Koningii clade. T. robustum and T. perfasciculatum were assigned to the Virens clade. T. subulatum emerged as a new member of the Spirale clade. Pathogenicity experiments were conducted on the new species T. robustum, T. delicatum, and T. perfasciculatum, as well as the known species T. hamatum, T. atroviride, and T. harzianum. The infective abilities of different Trichoderma species on G. elata varied, indicating that Trichoderma was a pathogenic fungus causing black rot disease in G. elata.DiscussionThis study provided the morphological characteristics of new species and discussed the morphological differences with phylogenetically proximate species, laying the foundation for research aimed at preventing and managing diseases that affect G. elata.

BackgroundMen who have sex with men (MSM) constitute a significant population of patients infected with HIV. In recent years, several efforts have been made to promote HIV testing among MSM in China. ObjectiveThis study aimed to assess HIV testing coverage and factors associated with first-time HIV testing among MSM to provide a scientific basis for achieving the goal of diagnosing 95% of patients infected with HIV by 2030. MethodsThis cross-sectional study was conducted between July 2023 and December 2023. MSM were recruited from the “Sunshine Test,” an internet platform that uses location-based services to offer free HIV testing services to MSM by visiting the WeChat official account in Zhejiang Province, China. Participants were required to complete a questionnaire on their demographic characteristics, sexual behaviors, substance use, and HIV testing history. A logistic regression model was used to analyze first-time HIV testing and its associated factors. ResultsA total of 7629 MSM participated in the study, with 87.1% (6647) having undergone HIV testing before and 12.9% (982) undergoing HIV testing for the first time. Multivariate logistic regression analysis revealed that first-time HIV testing was associated with younger age (adjusted odds ratio [aOR] 2.55, 95% CI 1.91-3.42), lower education (aOR 1.39, 95% CI 1.03-1.88), student status (aOR 1.35, 95% CI 1.04-1.75), low income (aOR 1.55, 95% CI 1.16-2.08), insertive anal sex role (aOR 1.28, 95% CI 1.05-1.56), bisexuality (aOR 1.69, 95% CI 1.40-2.03), fewer sex partners (aOR 1.44, 95% CI 1.13-1.83), use of rush poppers (aOR 2.06, 95% CI 1.70-2.49), unknown HIV status of sex partners (aOR 1.40, 95% CI 1.17-1.69), lack of awareness of HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis (aOR 1.39, 95% CI 1.03-1.88), and offline HIV testing uptake (aOR 2.08, 95% CI 1.80-2.41). ConclusionsA notable 12.9% (982/7629) of MSM had never undergone HIV testing before this large internet survey. We recommend enhancing HIV intervention and testing through internet-based platforms and gay apps to promote testing among MSM and achieve the target of diagnosing 95% of patients infected with HIV by 2030.

Abstract The development of the goat mammary gland is mainly under the control of ovarian hormones particularly estrogen and progesterone (P4). Amino acids play an essential role in mammary gland development and milk production, and sodium-coupled neutral amino acid transporter 2 (SNAT2) was reported to be expressed in the mammary gland of rats and bovine mammary epithelial cells, which may affect the synthesis of milk proteins or mammary cell proliferation by mediating prolactin, 17β-estradiol (E2) or methionine function. However, whether SNAT2 mediates the regulatory effects of E2 and P4 on the development of the ruminant mammary gland is still unclear. In this study, we show that E2 and P4 could increase the proliferation of goat mammary epithelial cells (GMECs) and regulate SNAT2 mRNA and protein expression in a dose-dependent manner. Further investigation revealed that SNAT2 is abundantly expressed in the mammary gland during late pregnancy and early lactation, while knockdown and overexpression of SNAT2 in GMECs could inhibit or enhance E2- and P4-induced cell proliferation as well as mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR) signaling. We also found that the accelerated proliferation induced by SNAT2 overexpression in GMECs was suppressed by the mTOR signaling pathway inhibitor rapamycin. This indicates that the regulation of GMECs proliferation mediated by SNAT2 in response to E2 and P4 is dependent on the mTOR signaling pathway. Finally, we found that the total content of the amino acids in GMECs changed after knocking-down and overexpressing SNAT2. In summary, the results demonstrate that the regulatory effects of E2 and P4 on GMECs proliferation may be mediated by the SNAT2-transported amino acid pathway. These results may offer a novel nutritional target for improving the development of the ruminant mammary gland and milk production.

Abstract With the increasing installation of photovoltaic (PV) systems, the impact of their randomness and volatility on power system has become a significant concern. To effectively quantify the uncertainty of PV output, it is crucial to develop reliable PV power interval forecasting technology. However, the complex relationship between PV output and meteorological factors makes it challenging for a single forecasting model to meet the forecasting demand. To solve this problem, this paper proposes a weather classification method that takes into account both PV output and meteorological characteristics. Initially, the relationship between PV output and meteorological factors is analyzed, and weather types are classified using fuzzy c‐means algorithm (FCM). Then, an extreme learning machine (ELM) is employed to establish point forecasting model. By combining kernel density estimation, a PV power generation interval forecasting model is derived. The results demonstrate that the FCM‐ELM model achieves higher forecasting accuracy and narrower interval width compared to traditional ELM models, with accuracy improvement of more than 2%. Additionally, the proposed method outperforms seasonal models with an accuracy improvement of more than 1%. The contribution of this paper includes identifying the limitations of traditional weather classification methods, proposing a novel multi‐model approach for PV interval forecasting.

Abstract Various post-stroke dysfunctions often result in poor long-term outcomes for stroke survivors, but the effect of conventional treatments is limited. In recent years, lots of studies have confirmed the effect of repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) in stroke rehabilitation. As a new pattern of rTMS, theta burst stimulation (TBS) was proved recently to yield more pronounced and long-lasting after-effects than the conventional pattern at a shorter stimulation duration. To explore the role of TBS in stroke rehabilitation, this review summarizes the existing evidence from all the randomized controlled trials (RCTs) so far on the efficacy of TBS applied to different post-stroke dysfunctions, including cognitive impairment, visuospatial neglect, aphasia, dysphagia, spasticity, and motor dysfunction. Overall, TBS promotes the progress of stroke rehabilitation and may serve as a preferable alternative to traditional rTMS. However, it’s hard to recommend a specific paradigm of TBS due to the limited number of current studies and their heterogeneity. Further high-quality clinical RCTs are needed to determine the optimal technical settings and intervention time in stroke survivors.

Placenta-specific protein 1 (PLAC1) is considered to play a pivotal role in cancer progression. Here, we investigated the role of PLAC1 in the growth and motility of bladder cancer (BCa) cells. Database analysis and Immunoblot assays were conducted to determine PLAC1 expression in BCa tissues and its correlation with patient prognosis. Furthermore, wound healing, transwell and tube formation assays were performed to evaluate cell motility and angiogenic potential, and the underlying mechanism via which PLAC1 knockdown inhibits BCa progression in vitro was investigated. The data revealed that PLAC1 was obviously overexpressed in BCa tissues and was associated with poor patient prognoses. Additionally, silencing PLAC1 led to reduced viability, migratory capacity, invasion potential and angiogenesis of BCa cells, including T24 and UMUC3 cells. Further investigation showed that PLAC1 knockdown modulated the phosphoinositide 3-kinase/protein kinase B/forkhead box O3a (PI3K/Akt/FOXO3a) axis by enhancing the phosphorylation of FOXO3a while suppressing the phosphorylation of PI3K as well as Akt. Moreover, we demonstrated that the inhibition of BCa progression by PLAC1 knockdown was primarily mediated through the targeting of FOXO3a. In summary, these findings confirmed the potential of PLAC1 as a promising target for suppressing BCa growth by elevating FOXO3a levels and modulating the PI3K/Akt/FOXO3a signaling axis.

The purpose of this paper is to establish an analytical method for the determination of 16 organochlorine and pyrethroid pesticide residues in nuts by gas chromatography (GC). The samples were extracted by acetone:hexane (3:7, V:V), purified by 0.2 mL concentrated sulfuric acid sulfonation, and the organochlorines and pyrethroids were separated by a DB-17MS column (30 m×0.32 mm, 0.25 μm), and quantified by gas chromatography-electron capture detector (GC-ECD). The results showed that the organochlorine and pyrethroid pesticides showed good linearity in the concentration range of 0.01~0.20 μg/mL and the corresponding peak areas. The determination coefficients (r2) were above 0.996, and the limits of detection were 0.1~0.4 μg/kg. In this study, the spiked recovery experiments were also performed on samples of different matrices (pistachios, macadamia nuts, cashew nuts, pistachios, walnuts, and padanuts) at low (10 μg/kg), medium (40 μg/kg), and high (100 μg/kg) concentrations, respectively. The extraction rates ranged from 81.6% to 119.5% with the relative standard deviations (RSDs) of 1.03%~5.36%. The method is simple, accurate, reproducible and suitable for the determination of 16 organochlorine and pyrethroid pesticide residues in nuts.

Abstract Serum neuropeptide levels may be linked to schizophrenia (SCZ) pathogenesis. This study aims to examine the relation between five serum neuropeptide levels and the cognition of patients with treatment-resistant schizophrenia (TRS), chronic stable schizophrenia (CSS), and in healthy controls (HC). Three groups were assessed: 29 TRS and 48 CSS patients who were hospitalized in regional psychiatric hospitals, and 53 HC. After the above participants were enrolled, we examined the Repeatable Battery for the Assessment of Neuropsychological Status (RBANS) and the blood serum levels of α-melanocyte stimulating hormone (α-MSH), β-endorphin (BE), neurotensin (NT), oxytocin (OT) and substance.P (S.P). Psychiatric symptoms in patients with SCZ were assessed with the Positive and Negative Syndrome Scale. SCZ patients performed worse than HC in total score and all subscales of the RBANS. The levels of the above five serum neuropeptides were significantly higher in SCZ than in HC. The levels of OT and S.P were significantly higher in CSS than in TRS patients. The α-MSH levels in TRS patients were significantly and negatively correlated with the language scores of RBANS. However, the BE and NT levels in CSS patients were significantly and positively correlated with the visuospatial/constructional scores of RBANS. Moreover, the interaction effect of NT and BE levels was positively associated with the visuospatial/constructional scores of RBANS. Therefore, abnormally increased serum neuropeptide levels may be associated with the physiology of SCZ, and may cause cognitive impairment and psychiatric symptoms, especially in patients with TRS.

Abstract Background Metastasis is the primary cause of recurrence and death in patients with papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC). LncRNA ACTA2-AS1, a long non-coding RNA, acts as a tumor suppressor in multiple types of human malignancies, while the role of ACTA2-AS1 in PTC metastasis remains unclear. Methods The ACTA2-AS1 expression in PTC tissues was analyzed. The sponged roles of ACTA2-AS1 via miR-4428/KLF9 axis were identified using starBase tool. The function of ACTA2-AS1 in PTC was performed with in vitro and in vivo experiments. The correlation between DNA methylation and mRNA expressions of these gene in the TCGA dataset was explored. Results ACTA2-AS1 expression was downregulated in PTC tissues without metastasis and further decreased in PTC tissues with lymph node metastasis compared with that in normal tissues. Functionally, the overexpression of ACTA2-AS1 inhibited the growth, proliferation, and invasion of PTC cells, whereas its depletion exerted opposite effect. In vivo, ACTA2-AS1 expression inhibited PTC metastasis. Furthermore, ACTA2-AS1 acted as a competing endogenous RNA for miR-4428, thereby positively regulating the expression of miR-4428 target gene, KLF9. Finally, miR-4428 overexpression enhanced invasive potential of PTC cells and significantly weakened the effects of ACTA2-AS1 on promotion and inhibition of KLF9 expression as well as invasive ability of PTC cells, respectively. In the TCGA dataset, the methylation level of ACTA2-AS1 was significantly correlated with its mRNA expression (r = 0.21, p = 2.1 × e−6). Conclusions Our findings demonstrate that ACTA2-AS1 functions as a tumor suppressor in PTC progression at least partly by regulating the miR-4428-dependent expression of KLF9. Graphical abstract

Objectives: This study aimed to evaluate the measurement properties and methodological quality of assessment tools for Kinesophobia among patients with cardiovascular disease and provide a reference for healthcare professionals in selecting high-quality assessment tools. Methods: A systematic search was performed on specific databases: Embase, the Cochrane Library, PubMed, Web of Science, China National Knowledge Infrastructure, Wanfang database, China Biological Medicine disc, CINAHL, and China Science and Technology Journal Database, from inception to April 1, 2023. The researchers retrieved studies on the measurement attributes of the exercise fear scale in patients with cardiovascular diseases. They also traced back the references of the included studies to supplement relevant literature. According to the inclusion and exclusion criteria, screening and data extraction were independently undertaken by two reviewers. Two researchers individually used the Consensus-based Standards for the selection of health Measurement Instruments (COSMIN) Risk of Bias Checklist to assess the methodological quality of the scale, applied the COSMIN criteria to evaluate the measurement properties of the scale, and used a modified Grading, Recommendations, Assessment, Development, and Evaluation system to assess the certainty of evidence. Results: Seventeen studies were identified that reported the psychometric properties of six patient reported outcome measurement tools (included different languages version) The methodological quality of content validity was adequate in only two studies, the remaining patient-reported outcome measures demonstrated doubtful content validity. Limited information on cross-cultural validity/measurement invariance, measurement error, and responsiveness was retrieved. The Swedish version and the Chinese version of the Tampa Scale for Kinesiophobia Heart were graded “A.” The remaining instruments were graded “B.” Conclusions: The methodological and measurement attributes of the Swedish and Chinese versions of the Tampa Scale for Kinesiophobia Heart are relatively high quality and can be tentatively recommended. The measurement properties of the remaining scales remain to be verified.

Abstract Background Small cell lung cancer (SCLC) is the most malignant lung cancer type. Due to the high rates of metastasis and drug resistance, effective therapeutic strategies remain lacking. Tanshinone IIA (Tan IIA) has been reported to exhibit anti-tumor activity. Therefore, this study investigated the ability and underlying mechanism of Tan IIA to inhibit the metastasis and proliferation of SCLC. Methods H1688 and H446 cells were treated in vitro with Tan IIA (0, 1, 2 and 4 µM) or LY294002 (10 µM) for 24, 48, 72 h. H1688 and H446 cell migration was evaluated in wound healing and transwell migration assays. RNA-sequencing helped assess gene expression. BALB/c nude mice were injected with H1688 cells and treated with the Tan IIA group (10 mg/kg/day) or a control. Expression of E-cadherin, vimentin and PI3K/Akt signaling pathway proteins in tumors and H1688 was investigated by immunohistochemical analysis and western blot. Results Tan IIA inhibited H1688 and H446 cell proliferation without inducing apoptosis and suppressed H1688 and H446 cell migration. E-cadherin expression was increased, while vimentin expression was reduced after administration of Tan IIA. RNA-sequencing revealed that some genes related with the PI3K/Akt signaling pathway were altered using Tan IIA treatment. Furthermore, western blot helped detect PI3K and p-Akt expression was also reduced by Tan IIA treatment. Tan IIA inhibited tumor growth in vivo. Moreover, Tan IIA increased tumoral expression of E-cadherin accompanied by PI3K and p-Akt downregulation. Conclusion Tan IIA suppresses SCLC proliferation and metastasis by inhibiting the PI3K/Akt signaling pathway, thereby highlighting the potential of Tan IIA as a new and relatively safe drug candidate to treat SCLC.

The pursuit of low-power/low-voltage operation in devices has prompted a keen interest in the mesoscale effects within ferroelectric thin films. The downsizing of ferroelectrics can significantly influence performance; for instance, the remanent polarization and coercive field are susceptible to alterations based on thickness. In this study, randomly oriented Bi3.25La0.75Ti3O12 thin films were fabricated on Pt/Ti/SiO2/Si substrates using the sol–gel method, and SEM observations revealed rod-like grains in all thin films. The investigation delved into the correlation between dielectric and ferroelectric properties with thin film thickness. The thin film exhibited an increased remanent polarization and a reduced coercive electric field. Additionally, the ferroelectric domain structure was scrutinized through PFM, and the resistor properties of the BLT4 thin film were studied, which shows the potential of BLT thin films in non-volatile memory and memristor.

The genus Entamoeba infects both humans and NHPs. In zoos, visitors feeding significantly increases the frequency of human-to-NHP contact, thereby raising the risk of zoonotic transmission. In this study, six Entamoeba species were investigated and analyzed in the fecal samples of 14 NHP species from zoos in Beijing, Guiyang, Shijiazhuang, Tangshan, and Xingtai in China. A total of 19 out of 84 primate fecal samples tested positive for Entamoeba spp. by polymerase chain reaction (PCR). Among these, 14 samples contained mono-detections of E. coli (7/84), E. dispar (4/84), and E. polecki (3/84). Five samples were found to have mixed detections with two or three species, suggesting the potential for zoonotic transmission; however, no pathogenic E. histolytica, E. moshkovskii, or E. nuttalli were detected. This study provides new insights into parasitic detections in NHPs in Chinese zoos and offers valuable background information for the prevention and control of zoonotic parasitic diseases.

Background: The thrombin-activatable fibrinolysis inhibitor (TAFI) is an important regulator in the balance between blood clot formation (coagulation) and dissolution (fibrinolysis), which is mainly activated by thrombin bonded with thrombomodulin (TM). Methods: In this study, the investigation focused on the unique target TAFI of fungi fibrinolytic compound 1 (FGFC1), a novel fibrinolytic compound sourced from the deep sea. In this sense, the regulation of TAFI by FGFC1, in comparison to established TAFI inhibitors such as DS-1040 and PCTI in hPPP, was investigated, which was validated through the molecular docking of FGFC1 to TAFI. The inhibitory effect of FGFC1 on TAFI-mediating coagulation (ex vivo and in vitro) and its fibrinolytic effect (ex vivo) were investigated in hPPP and hCMEC/D3 cells, respectively, followed by SEM. Results: FGFC1 solutions ranging from 0.023 to 0.736 mM effectively inhibited TAFI activation. Notably, the 0.023 mM concentration demonstrated significant suppression, comparable to DS-1040 and PCTI. These inhibitory effects of FGFC1 (0.023–0.368 mM) were further validated through the enhancement in TAFI (TAFIa) activation by fibrins in the coagulum prior to proteolysis, resulting in the cleavage of TAFIa from 33 kDa to 28 kDa. Furthermore, these regulatory effects of FGFC1 on TAFI were demonstrated to have minimal association with TM-mediated control, as confirmed through a molecular docking analysis. FGFC1 (0.023–0.092 mM) was suggested to have obstructive effects on TAFI-mediated coagulation in the hPPP, which was demonstrated by the inhibition of clot aggregation, protein crystallization, and platelet anchoring, as observed through SEM. Simultaneously, FGFC1 (0.023 to 0.368 mM) significantly enhanced TAFI-mediated fibrinolysis, which was also supported by increased levels of t-PA, u-PA, and plasmin. Conclusions: From the above findings, FGFC1 is identified as a novel dual-target bioactive compound participating in blood formation/dissolution that demonstrates anti-coagulation and fibrinolytic effects by regulating TAFI activation, inhibiting TAFIa–fibrin combination, and initiating proteolysis. It also provided convincing evidence that TAFI plays a critical role in thrombolysis as a molecular link between coagulation and fibrinolysis. Furthermore, the application of FGFC1 was indicated as a potential therapeutic strategy in thromboembolic and hemorrhagic diseases.

Abstract Background As an important food and cash crop, identification of DNA molecular markers is of great significance for molecular marker-assisted breeding of Sorghum (Sorghum bicolor (L.) moench). Although some sorghum-related mutation databases have been published, the special SSR and SV databases still need to be constructed and updated. Results In this study, the quality of 18 different sorghum genomes was evaluated, and two genomes were assembled at chromosome level. Through the identification and comparative analysis of SSR loci in these genomes, the distribution characteristics of SSR in the above sorghum genomes were initially revealed. At the same time, five representative reference genomes were selected to identify the structural variation of sorghum. Finally, a convenient SSR/SV database of sorghum was constructed by integrating the above results ( http://www.sorghum.top:8079/ ; http://43.154.129.150:8079/ ; http://47.106.184.91:8079/ ). Users can query the information of related sites and primer pairs. Conclusions Anyway, our research provides convenience for sorghum researchers and will play an active role in sorghum molecular marker-assisted breeding.

Abstract Background Young students infected with HIV have become a significant public health issue in China, this study aimed to understand the factors influencing the choice of having multiple sexual partners among male college students who had casual heterosexual sex in Zhejiang Province and to scientifically justify developing HIV/AIDS intervention strategies among them. Methods A stratified cluster sampling method was used for the survey of students from 13 colleges or universities in Zhejiang Province between October and November 2018. The questionnaire collected information on general demographic characteristics, knowledge of HIV/AIDS prevention and treatment, sexual attitudes and risk awareness, sexual behavioural characteristics, and acceptance of interventions. The univariable and multivariable analyses were conducted in this study. Results Study participants included 362 male college students who exhibited casual heterosexual sex and were aware of the number of sexual partners they had. Among them, 222 students engaged in casual heterosexual sex with multiple sexual partners (61.33%). The results of the multivariable analysis revealed several factors associated with male students’ choice to have multiple sexual partners: monthly living expenses greater than or equal to 1501 CNY (adjusted OR = 2.24, 95% CI = 1.21–4.16), sexual behavior after consuming alcohol (adjusted OR = 2.19, 95% CI = 1.32–3.63), whose casual partner types were non-student (adjusted OR = 2.51, 95% CI = 1.45–4.22), and those who discussed using condoms during sexual intercourse (adjusted OR = 0.50, 95% CI = 0.28–0.89). Conclusion The choice to engage in casual heterosexual sex with multiple partners was found to be associated with several factors among male college students, including economic status, engaging in sexual behavior after consuming alcohol, the type of the casual partner, and using condoms. These findings highlight the significance of implementing targeted interventions and comprehensive sexual health education programs within college settings in order to encourage safer sexual practices among students.

Abstract Background Burnout is a major concern in healthcare professions. Although theory and empirical evidence support the relationship between job stressors and burnout, the question remains how and when the job stressors are related to burnout. Based on conservation of resources theory and effort recovery model, the current study aimed to provide a deeper understanding of the effect of job stressors on burnout by investigating the mediating role of need for recovery and the moderating role of career calling. Methods A cross-sectional online survey was conducted among 709 nurses enrolled from eight public hospitals in China. The Work Stressors Scale, Psychological Detachment Scale, Brief Calling Scale, and Maslach Burnout Inventory were used to collect data. Hierarchical regression analysis with bootstrapping procedure was performed to test the proposed model. Results The results showed that need for recovery mediated the job stressors-burnout relationship, and that high career calling buffered against the relationships between job stressors and need for recovery and burnout. Furthermore, the result revealed a moderated mediation model that career calling buffered the indirect effect of job stressors on burnout through need for recovery. Conclusions Our findings suggest that environmental demands and personal resource are important antecedents of nurses’ burnout. Career calling as personal resources can serve as a protective factor that guards against burnout. Thus, nursing managers can reduce nurse burnout by focusing on effective strategies related to recovery experiences, as well as investing in training career calling.

Species of Trichoderma are widely distributed around the world. In this study, two new species in Trichoderma, named as T. albidum and T. variegatum, were introduced and illustrated. These species were isolated from diseased tubers of Gastrodia elata in China and identified based on morphological characteristics and multi-gene sequence analyses of three loci that is the internal transcribed spacer regions of the ribosomal DNA (ITS), the translation elongation factor 1-α encoding gene (tef1-α) and the gene encoding the second largest nuclear RNA polymerase subunit (rpb2). Distinctions between the new species and their close relatives were discussed. According to results of the phylogenetic analyses, T. albidum belonged to the Harzianum clade and T. variegatum are grouped with species of the Spirale clade. The expansion of two clades provided research foundations for the prevention and control of tuber diseases in G. elata.

Abstract Objectives This study aimed to explore the differences in anchorage strength and histomorphometric changes in orthodontic miniscrews between adult and adolescent beagles. Material and method Six adult beagles and six young beagles were used as experimental subjects, and eight miniscrews were symmetrically placed in the posterior mandible of each dog. Measurement of the displacement (mm) of two adjacent miniscrews after load application was performed to compare the anchorage strength between the adult and adolescent groups. Three intravital bone fluorochromes (oxytetracycline, calcein green, xylenol orange) were administered postoperatively to mark the active bone-forming surface. Subsequently, the mineral apposition rate and bone-implant contact ratio were measured for dynamic and static histomorphometry. Finally, the expression levels of the RANKL/OPG ratio were evaluated by immunohistochemistry. Results The average displacement of miniscrews in the adult group was significantly less than that in the adolescent group after load application. For histomorphometry analysis, the mineral exposure rate in the adolescent group was higher than that in the adult group with or without force application. In addition, more fractures and new bone formation but deceased bone-implant contact ratios were observed in the adolescent group than in the adult group. The ratio of RANKL/OPG expression increased more in the adolescent group than in the adult group. Conclusion Miniscrews do not remain in the same position as skeletal anchors, and the amount of displacement was higher in adolescent group than that in adult group, reflecting the weaker anchorage strength of miniscrews in adolescents due to the higher bone turnover rate and active bone remodelling. Therefore, it is feasible to apply orthodontic loading to the miniscrews in adult patients earlier, even immediately, but it is recommended to wait a period for the adolescents.

ABSTRACTCodonopsis pilosula is a perennial herbaceous liana with medicinal value. It is critical to promote Codonopsis pilosula growth through effective and sustainable methods, and the use of plant growth-promoting bacteria (PGPB) is a promising candidate. In this study, we isolated a PGPB, Klebsiella michiganensis LDS17, that produced a highly active 1-aminocyclopropane-1-carboxylate deaminase from the Codonopsis pilosula rhizosphere. The strain exhibited multiple plant growth-promoting properties. The antagonistic activity of strain LDS17 against eight phytopathogenic fungi was investigated, and the results showed that strain LDS17 had obvious antagonistic effects on Rhizoctonia solani, Colletotrichum camelliae, Cytospora chrysosperma, and Phomopsis macrospore with growth inhibition rates of 54.22%, 49.41%, 48.89%, and 41.11%, respectively. Inoculation of strain LDS17 not only significantly increased the growth of Codonopsis pilosula seedlings but also increased the invertase and urease activities, the number of culturable bacteria, actinomycetes, and fungi, as well as the functional diversity of microbial communities in the rhizosphere soil of the seedlings. Heavy metal (HM) resistance tests showed that LDS17 is resistant to copper, zinc, and nickel. Whole-genome analysis of strain LDS17 revealed the genes involved in IAA production, siderophore synthesis, nitrogen fixation, P solubilization, and HM resistance. We further identified a gene (koyR) encoding a plant-responsive LuxR solo in the LDS17 genome. Klebsiella michiganensis LDS17 may therefore be useful in microbial fertilizers for Codonopsis pilosula. The identification of genes related to plant growth and HM resistance provides an important foundation for future analyses of the molecular mechanisms underlying the plant growth promotion and HM resistance of LDS17.IMPORTANCEWe comprehensively evaluated the plant growth-promoting characteristics and heavy metal (HM) resistance ability of the LDS17 strain, as well as the effects of strain LDS17 inoculation on the Codonopsis pilosula seedling growth and the soil qualities in the Codonopsis pilosula rhizosphere. We conducted whole-genome analysis and identified lots of genes and gene clusters contributing to plant-beneficial functions and HM resistance, which is critical for further elucidating the plant growth-promoting mechanism of strain LDS17 and expanding its application in the development of plant growth-promoting agents used in the environment under HM stress.

It furnishes a detailed survey of leading knowledge institutions and critical focal points in this area, utilizing bibliometric analysis.MethodsVOSviewer and CiteSpace software platforms were employed to systematically analyze and graphically depict the relevant literature indexed in the WoSCC database over the preceding ten years.ResultsIn the interval between October 1, 2013, and October 1, 2023, a corpus of 795 publications was amassed. The primary research institutions involved in this study include Duke University, the University of Minnesota, and the University of Sydney. The leading trio of nations, in terms of publication volume, comprises the United States, China, and Brazil. The analyses delineated herein provide insights into prevailing research foci and trajectories, thus furnishing critical directions for subsequent inquiries in this domain.

Summary: Obesity and overweight are significant global health issues, and numerous obesity intervention studies have been conducted. Summarizing current knowledge of interventions aims to inform researchers and policymakers to keep up-to-date with the latest scientific advancements and trends. In this review, we comprehensively retrieved and screened 4,541 studies on obesity intervention published between 2018 and 2022 in the Web of Science Core Collection, and objectively presented research frontiers using bibliometric analysis. The research frontiers of intervention are mainly focused on dietary, exercise, pharmacological interventions, bariatric surgery, environmental, and cognitive interventions. Time-restricted eating is the hottest research topic, followed by probiotics and Roux-en-Y gastric bypass. Gut microbiota is located in the “Basic and transversal themes” quadrant with a high centrality and low density, which has great development potentiality. Obesity intervention is becoming increasingly common,and we advocate for researchers to undertake more focused research endeavors that consider the specific characteristics of diverse populations or patients.

Stringent response and quorum sensing (QS) are two essential mechanisms that control bacterial global metabolism for better survival. Sphingomonads are a clade of bacteria that survive successfully in diverse ecosystems. In silico survey indicated that 36 out of 79 investigated sphingomonads strains contained more than one luxI homolog, the gene responsible for the biosynthesis of QS signal acyl homoserine lactones (AHLs). Investigation of the regulatory effects of the stringent response gene rsh on QS related bioactivities were carried out using rsh mutants of Sphingobium japonicum UT26 and Sphingobium sp. SYK-6, both had three luxI homologs. Results indicated that deletion of rsh upregulated the overall production of AHLs and extracellular polymeric substances (EPS) in both UT26 and SYK-6 in rich medium, but affected expressions of these luxI/luxR homologs in different ways. In the poor medium (1% LB), rsh mutant of SYK-6 significantly lost AHLs production in broth cultivation but not in biofilm cultivation. The regulatory effects of rsh on QS activities were growth phase dependent in UT26 and culture condition dependent in SYK-6. Our results demonstrated the negative regulatory effect of rsh on QS activities in sphingomonads, which were very different from the positive effect found in sphingomonads containing only one luxI/R circuit. This study extends the current knowledge on the intricate networks between stringent response and QS system in sphingomonads, which would help to understand their survival advantage.

Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a common inflammatory skin disease that significantly affects patients’ quality of life. This study aimed to evaluate the therapeutic potential of cell-free fat extract (FE) in AD. In this study, the therapeutic effect of DNCB-induced AD mouse models was investigated. Dermatitis scores and transepidermal water loss (TEWL) were recorded to evaluate the severity of dermatitis. Histological analysis and cytokines measurement were conducted to assess the therapeutic effect. Additionally, the ability of FE to protect cells from ROS-induced damage and its ROS scavenging capacity both in vitro and in vivo were investigated. Furthermore, we performed Th1/2 cell differentiation with and without FE to elucidate the underlying therapeutic mechanism. FE reduced apoptosis and cell death of HaCat cells exposed to oxidative stress. Moreover, FE exhibited concentration-dependent antioxidant activity and scavenged ROS both in vitro and vivo. Treatment with FE alleviated AD symptoms in mice, as evidenced by improved TEWL, restored epidermis thickness, reduced mast cell infiltration, decreased DNA oxidative damage and lower inflammatory cytokines like IFN-γ, IL-4, and IL-13. FE also inhibited the differentiation of Th2 cells in vitro. Our findings indicate that FE regulates oxidative stress and mitigates Th2-mediated inflammation in atopic dermatitis by inhibiting Th2 cell differentiation, suggesting that FE has the potential as a future treatment option for AD.

BackgroundLess research has linked the Systemic Immune Inflammatory Index (SII) with post-stroke depression (PSD). This study aims to look at any potential connections between SII and PSD.MethodsThe National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES), conducted in a population that embodied complete SII and stroke data from 2005 to 2020, was used to perform the current cross-sectional survey. A fitted smoothed curve was used to depict the nonlinear link between SII and PSD, and multiple linear regression analysis demonstrated a positive correlation between SII and PSD.ResultsMultiple linear regression analysis showed that SII and PSD were markedly related [1.11(1.05, 1.17)]. Interaction tests showed that the association between SII and PSD was not statistically different between strata, and age, sex, BMI, income poverty ratio, education level, smoking status, diabetes mellitus, coronary heart disease, and heart failure did not have a significant effect on this positive association (p > 0.05 for interaction). In addition, a nonlinear association between SII and PSD was found using a two-stage linear regression model.ConclusionThe results of our research support the existence of a significant positive correlation between SII levels and PSD. Further prospective trials are required to comprehend SII, which is for the PSD thoroughly.

Objective: To explore the difference in intestinal microecology between patients with preeclampsia and pregnant women at different stages of pregnancy.Methods: From January 2020 to January 2022, clinical data, including blood routine, lipid profile, and renal function indicators, were gathered from a cohort consisting of 5 cases of preeclampsia and 34 cases of non-preeclampsia. The non-preeclampsia group was further categorized into 6 cases in the First trimester, 13 cases in the Second trimester, and 15 cases in the Third trimester. The data collection took place at the Obstetrics Department of the Maternal and Child Health Hospital of Hubei Province. Additionally, fecal samples were obtained from each subject for 16S rDNA gene sequencing and subsequent analysis. The clinical data and composition characteristics of the gut microbiota in each group were analyzed, and the correlation between gut microbiota and clinical data was analyzed by the Spearman correlation analysis method.Results: In comparison to pregnant women without preeclampsia, preeclampsia patients exhibited a statistically significant elevation in blood routine parameters (WBC, N, L, and PLT count), a rise in lipid-related indicators (TC, TG, and LDL-C levels), a reduction in HDL-C levels, and an increase in renal function-related indicators (Cr, BUN, UA and Pro levels). Compared with non-preeclampsia pregnant women, preeclampsia women exhibited an augmented diversity of gut microbiota. Differences in gut microbiota composition between the two groups were observed at the gate and genus levels. Moreover, there are significant differences in the composition of gut microbiota between the preeclampsia group and the third-trimester group in terms of genus and species, and this difference is mainly caused by Prevotella and s_ Bacteroides_ Uniformis and Ruminococcus_ bromii. In addition, actinobacteria, bifidobacterium at the genus level, and Ruminococcus_bromii at the species level are positively correlated with clinically relevant indicators (excluding HDL-C).Conclusion: There are significant differences in gut microbiota between preeclampsia pregnant women and late pregnancy pregnant without preeclampsia, including Prevotella and Bacteroides_ Uniformis, and Ruminococcus_ bromii. In addition, these differential bacteria are correlated with most clinical indicators. However, additional comprehensive analysis is required to ascertain the functional correlation between these bacteria and clinical indicators.

Objective This review aims to provide an estimate of sarcopenia prevalence and its impact on clinical characteristics in patients with systemic sclerosis (SSc).Design Systematic review and meta-analysis.Data sources Embase, Medline, Web of Science and the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials were systemically searched from inception to 24 May 2023.Eligibility criteria for selecting studies We included observational studies that reported the prevalence of sarcopenia in patients with SSc.Data extraction and synthesis Two reviewers independently performed study selection and data extraction using standardised methods. Risk of bias was assessed using the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality Scale and the Newcastle–Ottawa Scale. Meta-analysis was conducted using random effects models.Results A total of 4583 articles were screened and 9 studies with data from 815 patients were included in the analysis (8 cross-sectional studies and 1 retrospective cohort study). The overall prevalence of sarcopenia in patients with SSc was 22% (95% CI 17% to 28%). Patients with SSc with sarcopenia had a poorer quality of life (mean difference −12.02; 95% CI −19.11 to −4.93) and higher C reactive protein (CRP) levels (standardised mean difference 0.67; 95% CI 0.35 to 1.00).Conclusions Sarcopenia is common in patients with SSc. Patients with SSc with sarcopenia had a worse quality of life and higher CRP levels, based on our findings. Given the detrimental impact of sarcopenia on quality of life, future efforts aimed at early identification of sarcopenia in the clinical assessment of patients with SSc may have significance.PROSPERO registration number CRD42022368326.
