151. Development of tri-laminate antiviral surgical gown for liquid barrier protection.

The objective of this study was to develop tri-laminate antiviral surgical gown using polyester nonwoven as an outer layer, microporous polytetrafluroethylene as a middle layer and viscose nonwoven as an inner layer. Antibacterial and antiviral properties were imparted to the outer layer of surgical gown by finishing with the synthesized nanocomposite dispersion. The structure, morphology, and crystalline size of the nanosample were characterized using high resolution transmission electron microscopy and the finishing was done using pad-dry-cure method. The pore sizes of the polyester and viscose were characterized using a trinocular microscope. The tri-laminate fabric was formed using fusing machine. Liquid barrier properties of tri-laminate surgical fabric were analyzed through viral penetration, hydrostatic pressure, and moisture vapor transfer rate tests. It is observed that the polyester tri-laminate gown offers level 4 protection according to the barrier protection classification of Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation.
