Abstract

Abstract: In this essay we set out clinical communication challenges in surgical oncology. We draw directly on relevant examples where they are available. Otherwise, we refer to the more generic surgical and medical literature. We offer ‘macro’ and ‘micro’ perspectives on clinical communication. That is, exploring communication challenges at the level of the organization and between individuals, doctors and patients and interprofessionally across different settings. Training content and methods are reported that address the complex communication challenges associated with surgical oncology. Innovations in simulation-based education offer exciting new opportunities for formative and summative assessment. We outline limitations of the essay and finally propose the content of a surgical oncology communication program. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

Abstract: The molecular structure of 7-acetamido-2-methyl-quinoline-5,8-dione has been determined and the reactivity of 7-acetamido-2-methyl-quinoline-5,8-dione (1) and 6-acetamido-2-methyl-quinoline-5,8-dione (2) towards Re(CO)5Cl has been examined. Two novel tricarbonyl rhenium complexes, fac-[Re(CO)3(7-acetamido-2-methyl-quinoline-5,8-dione)Cl]·CHCl3 (3·CHCl3) and fac-[Re(CO)3(6-acetamido-2-methyl-quinoline-5,8-dione)Cl]2·CHCl3 (4·CHCl3), have been synthesized and characterized spectroscopically and structurally. Abstract

Abstract: The reaction of copper(II) chloride dihydrate and 8-hydroxy-2-methylquinoline-7-carboxylic acid (Hhmquin-7-COOH) leads to [Cu(hmquin-7-COOH)2(MeOH)]. The compound has been studied by IR, UV–Vis, EPR spectroscopy and X-ray crystallography. X-ray studies confirm bidentate coordination mode of the hmquin-7-COOH anions via the pyridine nitrogen atom and deprotonated hydroxyl group. The COOH groups of the hmquin-7-COOH ligands are potentially available for further conjugation. The title complex has been additionally studied by magnetic measurement. The TDDFT/PCM calculations have been employed to discuss the electronic spectrum of [Cu(hmquin-7-COOH)2(MeOH)] in more detail. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]
