In this paper, a nonequal gap distance dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) between a spiral‐shaped electrode and a cylinder‐shaped electrode is reported. A spiral‐shaped plasma is generated when a nanosecond pulse voltage is applied to the two electrodes. The smaller the pitch of the spiral‐shaped electrode is, the more diffuse the plasma appears. The discharge current has a pulse width of more than 400 ns, which is much longer than that of ordinary DBDs in air. According to the high‐speed photographs of the plasma captured by an intensified charge‐coupled camera detector camera, the discharge first ignites at the position where the gap distance is smallest, then it propagates continuously along the spiral electrode with the increase of gap distance at a speed of about 106 m/s. Both the optical emission spectrum method and the electric field‐induced second harmonic method are employed for the measurement of the electric field at different locations. The obtained electric field from both methods have a good agreement and are in the range of 60–110 kV/cm depending on the gap distance of the locations, which is much higher than the breakdown voltage of air under direct current voltage. This structure can obtain diffuse plasma in a larger gap, which makes the application of DBD more extensive. And it also has a deeper understanding of DBD with nonequal gap distance. The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between multislice computed tomography (CT) angiography (MSCTA) imaging and high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP) in patients with hypertension and lower extremity arteriosclerosis. 68 hypertensive patients with lower extremity arteriosclerosis were selected as the observation group, and 68 healthy volunteers were selected as the control group to compare the differences in hs-CRP. According to the degree of stenosis, the patients were further divided into five grades: no obvious stenosis, mild stenosis, moderate stenosis, severe stenosis, and occlusion. The correlation between the degree of stenosis and the content of hs-CRP was compared. The changes of hs-CRP content before and after treatment were compared, and the difference of images before and after surgical treatment and the difference of hs-CRP expression in patients with occlusion were compared. Compared with the control group, the content of hs-CRP in the observation group was significantly higher (P < 0.05), and the degree of stenosis was positively correlated with the content of hs-CRP. After two weeks of treatment, the hs-CRP levels of patients with severe stenosis and occlusion were significantly lower than those before treatment (P < 0.01). The level of hs-CRP in patients with occlusion after arterial stent intervention was significantly lower than before, and the images also showed that the blood vessels were significantly expanded. The degree of stenosis in patients with lower extremity arteriosclerosis diagnosed by MSCTA imaging was closely related to the expression of hs-CRP in the patient, and a sustained high concentration of hs-CRP corresponded to a more severe degree of vascular occlusion. Background: Osteochondrosis is a major cause of leg weakness in pigs. Selection against osteochondrosis is currently based on manual scoring of computed tomographic (CT) scans for the presence of osteochondrosis manifesta lesions. It would be advantageous if osteochondrosis could be diagnosed automatically, through artificial intelligence methods using machine learning. The aim of this study was to describe a method for labelling articular osteochondrosis lesions in CT scans of four pig joints to guide development of future machine learning algorithms, and to report new observations made during the labelling process. The shoulder, elbow, stifle and hock joints were evaluated in CT scans of 201 pigs. Results: Six thousand two hundred fifty osteochondrosis manifesta and cyst-like lesions were labelled in 201 pigs representing a total volume of 211,721.83 mm3. The per-joint prevalence of osteochondrosis ranged from 64.7% in the hock to 100% in the stifle joint. The lowest number of lesions was found in the hock joint at 208 lesions, and the highest number of lesions was found in the stifle joint at 4306 lesions. The mean volume per lesion ranged from 26.21 mm3 in the shoulder to 42.06 mm3 in the elbow joint. Pigs with the highest number of lesions had small lesions, whereas pigs with few lesions frequently had large lesions, that have the potential to become clinically significant. In the stifle joint, lesion number had a moderate negative correlation with mean lesion volume at r = − 0.54, p < 0.001. Conclusions: The described labelling method is an important step towards developing a machine learning algorithm that will enable automated diagnosis of osteochondrosis manifesta and cyst-like lesions. Both lesion number and volume should be considered during breeding selection. The apparent inverse relationship between lesion number and volume warrants further investigation. With an astounding five million fatal cases every year, lung cancer is among the leading causes of mortality worldwide for both men and women. The diagnosis of lung illnesses can benefit from the information a computed tomography (CT) scan can offer. The major goals of this study are to diagnose lung cancer and its seriousness and to identify malignant lung nodules from the provided input lung picture. This paper applies unique deep learning techniques to identify the exact location of the malignant lung nodules. Using a DenseNet model, mixed ground glass is analyzed in low-dose, low-resolution CT scan images of nodules (mGGNs) with a slice thickness of 5 mm in this study. This was done to categorize and identify many histological subtypes of lung cancer. Low-resolution CT scans are used to pathologically classify invasive adenocarcinoma (IAC) and minimally invasive adenocarcinoma (MIA). 105 low-resolution CT images with 5 mm thick slices from 105 patients at Lishui Central Hospital were selected. To detect and distinguish, IAC and MIA, extend and enhance deep learning two- and three-dimensional DenseNet models are used. The two-dimensional DenseNet model was shown to perform much better than the three-dimensional DenseNet model in terms of classification accuracy (76.67%), sensitivity (63.3%), specificity (100%), and area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (0.88). Finding the histological subtypes of persons with lung cancer should aid doctors in making a more precise diagnosis, even if the image quality is not outstanding. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Helical CT plain scan has high spatial and area resolution, which is beneficial to the extraction of CT features of pulmonary nodules, and is of great significance for the diagnosis and differential diagnosis of pulmonary diseases. In order to deeply study the role of visual sensor image algorithm in CT image, this paper adopts clinical simulation method, data fusion method, and image acquisition method to collect images, analyze CT image features, and simplify the algorithm and create a CT model that can better diagnose secondary tuberculosis and lung cancer. We selected 45 patients with lung disease in this group, with an average age of 38 years. At the same time, the consistency analysis results of the diameter and plain CT value data of the five groups of cases measured by two observers are between 0.82 and 0.88, which has a good consistency. We could find that the nodule diameters of the five groups of cases were different (F =16.99, P < 0.01), and the difference was statistically significant (P < 0.06), indicating that our data are not only accurate but also very reliable. ROC was used to analyze the precise value of CT values in the pulmonary tuberculosis group and lung cancer group, intrapulmonary lymph node group, and pulmonary hamartoma group to determine the cutoff value. The results showed that the AUC values of the pulmonary tuberculosis group and the lung cancer group were 0.788, and the middle was the largest, indicating that the values were guaranteed. Background: To evaluate and compare the clinical outcomes of digitally prefabricated and conventionally fabricated implant-supported full-arch provisional prostheses. Methods: In this retrospective study, a total of 39 patients (22 males and 17 females) who underwent implant-supported full-arch rehabilitation using the All-on-4 concept with an immediate loading protocol were included: 20 patients treated with digitally prefabricated provisional prostheses were assigned into Group A, and 19 patients treated with conventionally fabricated provisional prostheses were assigned into Group B. Implant/provisional prosthesis survival rates and complications were reviewed. Marginal bone loss (MBL) was investigated by CBCT. Surgical time, restorative time, and total operative time were analyzed. Postoperative pain and swelling were evaluated with the visual analog scale (VAS). The oral health impact profile (OHIP) questionnaire was administered before and after surgery. Results: The implant/provisional prosthesis survival rate was 100%, and complications appeared with low frequency in both groups, while the mean MBL was 0.30 ± 0.29 mm in Group A and 0.31 ± 0.41 mm in Group B after 3~ 6 months (P > 0.05). The average restorative time in Group A (116.16 ± 16.61 min) was significantly shorter than that in Group B (242.11 ± 30.14 min) (P < 0.05). Patients in Group A showed lower pain/swelling VAS scores after surgery than Group B (P < 0.05). Low OHIP scores with high satisfaction with the overall effects were shown in both groups. Conclusion: Prefabricated prostheses reduced the prosthetic time and postoperative discomfort in patients whose immediate rehabilitation was based on the All-on-4 concept. Aim: This study aims to explore the effects of finite element biomechanical properties of different methods in the treatment of osteoporotic thoracolumbar fractures. Methods: Based on the ultra-thin computed tomography scan data of a volunteer's thoracolumbar spine, the finite element method was used to simulate the treatment of osteoporotic thoracolumbar fracture. Spiral computed tomography scanning was used to obtain images of the thoracolumbar region, which was then imported into Mimics software to obtain the three-dimensional geometric model. The finite element model of normal T11 – L2 segment was established by finite element software Abaqus and the validity of the model loading was verified. The finite element model of T11 vertebral compression fracture was established based on normal raw data. The clinical overextension reduction manipulation was simulated by different treatment methods and the changes in stress and displacement in different parts of injured vertebrae were analyzed. Results: An effective finite element model of T11–L2 segment was established. The maximum stress, axial compression strength, axial compression stiffness, and transverse shear stiffness were significantly better in the percutaneous kyphoplasty and percutaneous vertebroplasty treatment group than in the conservative treatment group and open treatment group (P < 0.05). Additionally, there was no significant difference between the open treatment group and conservative treatment group, or between the PKP and PVP treatment group. Conclusion: Percutaneous vertebroplasty and percutaneous kyphoplasty not only met the requirements of normal functional kinematics of thoracolumbar spine, but also restored the stability of thoracolumbar spine. They had good biomechanical properties and remarkable application effects. The application of finite element analysis can help select a scientific, reasonable, and effective treatment scheme for the clinical diagnosis and treatment of osteoporotic thoracolumbar fractures. In this study, we proposed the idea of replacing the traditional objective lens in bottom-illumination mode with a plasmonic lens (PL) to achieve tip-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (TERS). The electric field energy of surface plasmon polaritons (SPPs) of the spiral PL was found to be more concentrated at the focal point without any sidelobe using the finite-difference time domain (FDTD) method compared with that of a symmetry-breaking PL. This property reduces far-field background noise and increases the excitation efficiency of the near-field Raman signal. The disadvantage of only the near-field Raman scattering of samples at the center of the structure being detected when using an ordinary PL in TERS is overcome by using our proposed method of changing only the polarization of the incident light. In this work we present a method for generating ultra-intense Laguerreâ€"Gauss laser beams, using 3D direct laser writing of spiral phase plasma mirrors. These single-use mirrors provide an economical and scalable solution for arbitrary spatial beam shaping at ultra-high laser intensities. The use of these plasma-based optical devices is demonstrated for the case of an orbital angular momentum of l = 1 , with incident laser intensity of 1017 W cmâˆ'2. According to the most recent estimates from global cancer statistics for 2020, liver cancer is the ninth most common cancer in women. Segmenting the liver is difficult, and segmenting the tumor from the liver adds some difficulty. After a sample of liver tissue is taken, imaging tests, such as magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), computer tomography (CT), and ultrasound (US), are used to segment the liver and liver tumor. Due to overlapping intensity and variability in the position and shape of soft tissues, segmentation of the liver and tumor from computed abdominal tomography images based on shade gray or shapes is undesirable. This study proposed a more efficient method for segmenting liver and tumors from CT image volumes using a hybrid ResUNet model, combining the ResNet and UNet models to address this gap. The two overlapping models were primarily used in this study to segment the liver and for region of interest (ROI) assessment. Segmentation of the liver is done to examine the liver with an abdominal CT image volume. The proposed model is based on CT volume slices of patients with liver tumors and evaluated on the public 3D dataset IRCADB01. Based on the experimental analysis, the true value accuracy for liver segmentation was found to be approximately 99.55%, 97.85%, and 98.16%. The authentication rate of the dice coefficient also increased, indicating that the experiment went well and that the model is ready to use for the detection of liver tumors. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The aim was to evaluate the accuracy of a prototypical artificial intelligence-based algorithm for automated segmentation and diameter measurement of the thoracic aorta (TA) using CT. One hundred twenty-two patients who underwent dual-source CT were retrospectively included. Ninety-three of these patients had been administered intravenous iodinated contrast. Images were evaluated using the prototypical algorithm, which segments the TA and determines the corresponding diameters at predefined anatomical locations based on the American Heart Association guidelines. The reference standard was established by two radiologists individually in a blinded, randomized fashion. Equivalency was tested and inter-reader agreement was assessed using intra-class correlation (ICC). In total, 99.2% of the parameters measured by the prototype were assessable. In nine patients, the prototype failed to determine one diameter along the vessel. Measurements along the TA did not differ between the algorithm and readers (p > 0.05), establishing equivalence. Inter-reader agreement between the algorithm and readers (ICC ≥ 0.961; 95% CI: 0.940–0.974), and between the readers was excellent (ICC ≥ 0.879; 95% CI: 0.818–0.92). The evaluated prototypical AI-based algorithm accurately measured TA diameters at each region of interest independent of the use of either contrast utilization or pathology. Forensic identification of human remains is crucial for legal, humanitarian, and civil reasons. Wide heterogeneity in sphenoid sinus morphology can be used for personal identification. This study aimed to propose a new protocol for personal identification based on three-dimensional (3D) reconstruction of sphenoid sinus CT images using Iterative Closest Point (ICP) algorithm. Seven hundred thirty-two patients which consisted of 348 females and 384 males were retrospectively included. The study sample includes 732 previous images as a source point set and 743 later ones as a scene target set. The sphenoid sinus computed tomography (CT) images were processed on a workstation (Dolphin imaging) to obtain 3D images and stored as a file format of Stereo lithography (.STL). Then, a Python library vtkplotter was used to transform the STL format to PLY format, which was adapted to Point Cloud Library (PCL). The ICP algorithm was used for point clouds matching. The metric Rank-N recognition rate was used for evaluation. The scene target set of 743 individuals was compared with the source point set of 732 individual models and achieved Rank-1 accuracy of 96.24%, Rank-2 accuracy of 99.73%, and Rank-3 accuracy of 100%. Background: Ectopic adrenal tissue is rare in adults, with an incidence of only about 1%. We report a rare case of ectopic adrenocortical adenoma in the left renal sinus. Case Preentation: A 57-year-old woman was admitted to the Department of Urology due to "a left kidney tumor" on physical examination. Multislice helical computed tomography (CT) showed the left kidney with an anterior lip mass near the hilum, approximately 2.3 cm × 2.2 cm in size. Preoperative renal artery CT angiography (CTA) showed no obvious abnormality. Laparoscopic resection of the left renal sinus mass was performed, and postoperative pathological findings showed ectopic adrenocortical adenoma. The tumor was a nonfunctional adenoma. Conclusion: Renal ectopic adrenal cortical adenoma is rare. Most of them are nonfunctional adenomas, which cannot be clearly diagnosed by preoperative imaging examination and can often be diagnosed by postoperative pathology. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Although cardiac calcifications are described in the literature, calcification of atria is less frequently reported. There have been few case studies about atrial wall calcification in the literature, most of which were in middle-age females and were attributable to chronic heart diseases including rheumatic heart disease and valve replacement. In majority of the reported cases, interatrial septum has been spared. Only one case of bilateral atrial wall calcification has been reported prior to the current report, which has been in a patient with renal failure, calciphylaxis and long-term haemodialysis and calcium supplement intake. Case presentation: The patient was a 57-year-old female with history of rheumatic valvular heart disease and two prior valve replacement surgeries. She didn't have any history of renal function impairment and haemodialysis or calcium supplements intake. Her laboratory data showed anaemia, increased cardiac biomarkers and active urinalysis. Performed echocardiography showed moderate right ventricular dilation with relatively poor contraction, normal left ventricular size and contraction, dilated right and left atria and good prosthetic valve function. On computed tomography (CT) scan, calcification of left atrial posterior and free walls, interatrial septum and right atrial free wall were noted. Evidence of hepatic congestion and cirrhosis was seen in abdominal CT scan and ultrasonography. Conclusion: Atrial wall calcification is a rare finding but is important to report since it can complicate cardiac surgeries. It's also probable that this kind of dystrophic calcification could not be detected during routine echocardiography and CT scan should be performed in suspected cases. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The value of 320-slice spiral computed tomography (CT) perfusion imaging in staging and long-term dynamic evaluation of breast cancer was explored. 120 breast cancer patients who underwent preoperative CT examination and were confirmed by surgery and pathology were selected. All patients underwent preoperative TNM staging of breast cancer, with 120 cases in each stage. According to the results of 320-slice spiral CT, the postoperative pathology and surgical methods were compared and analyzed. CT diagnosis of breast cancer showed that T1 sensitivity was 71% and accuracy was 61%, T2 sensitivity was 74% and accuracy was 64%, T3 sensitivity was 94% and the accuracy was 84%, and the T4 sensitivity was 100% and the accuracy was 91%. The sensitivity of N1 stage was 71%, and the accuracy was 61%; and the sensitivity of N2 ~ N3 stage was 81%, and the accuracy was 76%. There were 7 cases of M1 with distant metastasis, the sensitivity was 71%, and the accuracy was 71%. At T1 stage, blood flow (BF) was 39.2 ± 16.7 mL/min/100 g, blood volume (BV) was 2.66 ± 1.4 mL/100 g, mean transit time (MTT) was 8.16 ± 2.7 s, and permeability surface (PS) was 16.6 ± 9.7 mL/min/100 g. 320-slice spiral CT perfusion imaging technology provided a new diagnostic mode for everyone, which can quantitatively identify breast cancer with multiple parameters, which was of great significance for clinical auxiliary diagnosis. Objective. A case-control study was conducted to explore the efficacy of cohort study and value of CT perfusion imaging in patients with metastatic osteosarcoma after chemotherapy. Methods. Eighty patients with metastatic osteosarcoma treated in our hospital from March 2020 to December 2021 were divided into two groups. According to their different treatment methods, the chemotherapy+antiangiogenesis group had 36 cases and the chemotherapy group had 44 cases. All patients were scanned by 64-slice spiral CT before and after treatment. The differences of tumor volume and perfusion parameters before and after treatment were compared, and the correlation between perfusion parameters and tumor microvessel density (MVD) was analyzed. The receiver working curve (ROC curve) was used to evaluate the efficacy of the two groups after chemotherapy. Results. Blood flow (BF), blood volume (BV), Pallak blood volume (PBV), and time to start (TTS) in the antitumor angiogenesis+chemotherapy group were significantly lower than those before treatment (P < 0.05). Microvessel density was positively correlated with PS, BF, BV, and PBV (P < 0.05). The reduction rate of BV and BF in the remission group after treatment was significantly higher than that in the nonremission group. When the BV and BF decline rates were 47.37% and 21.53% and the areas under the curve were 0.968 and 0.916, respectively, the diagnostic effect was the best. When the decrease rate of BV was 47.48% and the decrease rate of BF was 21.55%, the sensitivity was 94.72% and 89.56% and the specificity was 91.31% and 91.31%. Conclusion. The reduction rate of BV and BF in CT perfusion imaging is of high value in evaluating the efficacy of radiotherapy and chemotherapy in patients with NSCLC and can provide more objective basis for observing the changes and judging the prognosis of osteosarcoma after treatment. Purpose The aim of the study was to explore the application value of computerized tomography (CT) scan 3D reconstruction technology in maxillofacial fracture patients. Methods A total of 80 maxillofacial fracture patients who underwent surgical treatment in Shijiazhuang People's Hospital from January 2019 to January 2020 were enrolled. All of them received 128-slice spiral CT scans before surgery, and the images were subjected to multiplanar reconstruction (MRP) and volume reconstruction (VR). Results A total of 181 fractures were found in 80 patients with maxillofacial fractures. The detection rates of axial CT, MRP, and VR were 77.90% (141/181), 93.92% (170/181), and 97.79% (177/181), respectively. The detection rates of the four inspection methods were statistically different. Taking the findings of surgical anatomy as the gold standard, the sensitivity of MRP and VR for the diagnosis of maxillofacial fractures was 90.06% (163/170) and 95.56% (174/177), with no significant difference. Objective: This study aimed to investigate the clinical efficacy of a balloon compression day-surgery operation under the guidance of spiral computed tomography (CT) three-dimensional (3D) reconstruction for the treatment of trigeminal neuralgia. Methods: The clinical efficacy and related indexes of 380 patients with trigeminal neuralgia treated by a spiral CT-guided balloon compression day-surgery operation in the pain department of Beijing TianTan Hospital, from October 2017 to March 2021, were retrospectively analyzed. Results: Five patients failed due to foramen ovale puncture or in placing the balloon; two patients had ineffective results after the operation and re-entered the hospital for secondary balloon compression. The initial effective rate of the operation in the 380 patients was 98.16%. All patients were discharged on the day of the operation, the average operation time was 26.46 ± 12.15min, and the average interval from the completion of the operation to discharge was 2.67 ± 0.95 h. During the follow-up period (1--41 months), 12 patients had pain recurrence, and a Kaplan--Meier analysis revealed that the cumulative pain-free recurrence survival rate at 41 months after the operation was 80.64%. No complications related to foramen ovale puncture occurred. Conclusion: The spiral CT-guided balloon compression day-surgery operation is safe, effective, and worthy of clinical promotion. Objectives: This study aimed to construct a device that could measure leg length discrepancy (LLD) automatically. Materials and Methods: The LLD measure device measures LLD with pelvic-tilt method (Program 1) and weight-based method (Programs 2 & 3). Tests were done in 3 phases. 1: Two examiners using the LLD Measure device made -50 to 75 mm artificial LLD in two healthy subjects measuring the degree of pelvic tilt and the load bearing of lower limbs. 2: Sixteen healthy volunteers were asked to stand on the device to measure LLD with program 2 and then with both knees extended to measure LLD with program one. 3: 32 patients who had underwent lower limbs CT scanogram enrolled, and the LLD measurement with program 1 compared with those obtained by CT scanogram. Results: Data's obtained in the first phase showed excellent repeatability (intra-class correlation coefficient [ICC] > 0.9) and very good reproducibility (ICC > 80%) except for measuring the limb load while both knees were extended (ICC â 60%). In the second phase, we found no statistically significant difference between measuring LLD using programs 1 and 2 (P = 0.49). In the third phase, there was no statistically significant difference between measuring LLD using program 1 and CT scanogram (P = 0.80). Conclusions: We have developed a device to measure LLD semiautomatic with less need for examiner expertise. The results of our new device would be reliable and accurate compared to CT measurements. Introduction The nasopharynx and oropharynx are the main colonization sites of coronavirus. Therefore, patients with paranasal sinuses and pharyngeal problems (ear, nose, and throat [ENT] patients) predispose coronavirus infection. Ear, nose, and throat patients with concomitant asymptomatic coronavirus infection may develop severe pneumonia following surgical procedures. As a result, presurgical screening for coronavirus infection is a substantial concern. Objective We evaluated the usefulness of a spiral chest computed tomography (CT) scan in the diagnosis of asymptomatic coronavirus infection in the presurgical assessment of ENT patients Methods In this study, candidates of paranasal sinus or pharyngeal surgery were evaluated for coronavirus infection. Patients with neither history of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) nor compatible symptoms and signs were screened for asymptomatic coronavirus infection. These patients composed two groups: the first group underwent a reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) test of nasopharyngeal sample and spiral chest CTscan, but for the second one, only the latter was performed. Results In the first group, which consisted of 106 patients, 11 (10.4%) cases had positive RT-PCR test results, and 17 (16%) patients showed positive findings in favor of coronavirus infection in the spiral chest CT scan. In the second group, which consisted of 173 patients, 34 (19.7%) cases had positive chest CT scan results. Conclusion The chest CT scan has a valuable role in the early diagnosis of asymptomatic coronavirus carriers in patients highly predisposed to infection, especially in low resource areas, where the RT-PCR test is unavailable. This study aimed to accurately localize the location and depth of the centre of the highest region of muscle spindle abundance (CHRMSA) of the triceps brachii muscle. Twenty-four adult cadavers were placed in the prone position. The curve connecting the acromion and lateral epicondyle of the humerus close to the skin was designed as the longitudinal reference line (L), and the curve connecting the lateral and the medial epicondyle of the humerus was designed as the horizontal reference line (H). Sihler's staining was used to visualize the dense intramuscular nerve region of the triceps brachii muscle. The abundance of muscle spindle was calculated after hematoxylin and eosin stain. CHRMSA was labelled by barium sulphate, and spiral computed tomography scanning and three-dimensional reconstruction were performed. Using the Syngo system, the projection points of CHRMSA on the posterior and anterior arm surface (P and P' points), the position of P points projected to the L and H lines (PL and PH points), and the depth of CHRMSA were determined. The PL of the CHRMSA of the long, medial, and lateral heads of the triceps brachii muscle were located at 34.83 %, 75.63 %, and 63.93 % of the L line, respectively, and the PH was located at 63.46 %, 69.62 %, and 56.07 % of the H line, respectively. In addition, the depth was located at 34.73 %, 35.48 %, and 35.85 % of the PP' line, respectively. These percentage values are all the means. Objectives: To determine the accuracy of scoutless, fixed-dose ultra-low-dose (ULD) CT compared to standard-dose (SD) CT for pulmonary nodule detection and semi-automated nodule measurement, across different patient sizes. Methods: Sixty-three patients underwent ULD and SD CT. Two readers examined all studies visually and with computer-aided detection (CAD). Nodules detected on SD CT were included in the reference standard by consensus and stratified into 4 categories (nodule category, NODCAT) from the Dutch-Belgian Lung Cancer Screening trial (NELSON). Effects of NODCAT and patient size on nodule detection were determined. For each nodule, volume and diameter were compared between both scans. Results: The reference standard comprised 173 nodules. For both readers, detection rates on ULD versus SD CT were not significantly different for NODCAT 3 and 4 nodules > 50 mm3 (reader 1: 93% versus 89% (p = 0.257); reader 2: 96% versus 98% (p = 0.317)). For NODCAT 1 and 2 nodules < 50 mm3, detection rates on ULD versus SD CT dropped significantly (reader 1: 66% versus 80% (p = 0.023); reader 2: 77% versus 87% (p = 0.039)). Body mass index and chest circumference did not influence nodule detectability (p = 0.229 and p = 0.362, respectively). Calculated volumes and diameters were smaller on ULD CT (p < 0.0001), without altering NODCAT (84% agreement). Conclusions: Scoutless ULD CT reliably detects solid lung nodules with a clinically relevant volume (> 50 mm3) in lung cancer screening, irrespective of patient size. Since detection rates were lower compared to SD CT for nodules < 50 mm3, its use for lung metastasis detection should be considered on a case-by-case basis. Background: The application of multislice spiral computed tomography (MSCT) scan has improved the diagnosis of small bowel diseases (SBDs). Objectives: This study aimed to develop a structured report (SR) template for SBDs based on MSCT scans and to compare its value with free-text reports (FTRs) by radiologists with different levels of seniority in radiology. Patients and Methods: A total of 120 SBD cases were confirmed based on the clinical manifestations, surgery, colonoscopy, and pathology. An SR template for small bowel imaging was developed, and six radiologists were divided into inexperienced and experienced groups. Sixty cases with small intestinal MSCT data were available for FTRs and another 60 cases for SRs after training. The report accuracy, satisfaction, and completion time were compared between the two reporting methods. Results: The writing time of SRs was significantly shorter than that of FTRs. By using FTRs, the experienced group showed higher levels of sensitivity for all diseases (i.e., intestinal wall, intestinal peripheral artery, blood vessel, bone, and other abdominal organ diseases) (P < 0.05). The experienced group showed a low misdiagnosis rate for all diseases (P < 0.05), except for bone disease (P = 0.161). By using SRs, the experienced group only showed a low misdiagnosis rate for the intestinal wall disease (P < 0.05). High sensitivity for the intestinal wall disease (P < 0.05) and intestinal peripheral artery disease (P = 0.024), along with improved sensitivity for bone lesions (P < 0.05), was reported in this group. In the inexperienced group, SRs improved sensitivity for all diseases (P < 0.05), except for intestinal wall disease (P > 0.05). The satisfaction scores for both inexperienced and experienced groups improved by using SRs (4 vs. 2.6 for the inexperienced group and 4.1 vs. 3.2 for the experienced group; P < 0.05 for both). Conclusion: The SRs were superior to FTRs in terms of writing efficiency, accuracy, and satisfaction. They could improve the accuracy of inexperienced radiologists in diagnosis and help detect SBDs. Background: This study aimed to identify the association of preoperative variables of ipsilateral hip abductors with gait function after total hip arthroplasty (THA). Methods: This study enrolled 42 patients who underwent unilateral primary THA for osteoarthritis. Gait speed and Timed Up-and-Go test were conducted 6 months postoperatively. Preoperative composition of the glutei medius and minimus and the upper portion of gluteus maximus was evaluated by computed tomography. Cross-sectional area ratio of individual composition to the total muscle was calculated. Preoperative variables associated with gait speed and Timed Up-and-Go test after THA were identified by using stepwise regression analysis. Results: Faster gait speed and shorter Timed Up-and-Go test correlated with smaller cross-sectional area of low-density lean tissue or intramuscular adipose tissue (low-density lean tissue plus intramuscular fat) in the glutei medius and minimus and lower cross-sectional area ratio of low-density lean tissue to the total glutei medius and minimus. Faster gait speed and shorter Timed Up-and-Go test also correlated with larger cross-sectional area of lean muscle mass in the gluteus maximus, higher cross-sectional area ratio of lean muscle mass to the total gluteus maximus, and lower cross-sectional area ratio of intramuscular fat or intramuscular adipose tissue to the total gluteus maximus. Faster gait speed additionally correlated with larger total cross-sectional area of the gluteus maximus. Regression analysis showed that the total cross-sectional area of the gluteus maximus and the low-density lean tissue cross-sectional area of the glutei medius and minimus were the explanatory variables of gait speed and Timed Up-and-Go test after THA, respectively. Conclusions: There was a potential association between preoperative composition of ipsilateral hip abductors and gait function 6 months after THA. Background: Colorectal cancer (CRC) is a prevalent cancer type in clinical settings; its early signs can be difficult to detect, which often results in late-stage diagnoses in many patients. The early detection and diagnosis of CRC are crucial for improving treatment success and patient survival rates. Recently, imaging techniques have been hypothesized to be essential in managing CRC, with magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and spiral computed tomography (SCT) playing a significant role in enhancing diagnostic and treatment approaches., Aim: To explore the effectiveness of MRI and SCT in the preoperative staging of CRC and the prognosis of laparoscopic treatment., Methods: Ninety-five individuals admitted to Zhongshan Hospital Xiamen University underwent MRI and SCT and were diagnosed with CRC. The precision of MRI and SCT for the presurgical classification of CRC was assessed, and pathological staging was used as a reference. Receiver operating characteristic curves were used to evaluate the diagnostic efficacy of blood volume, blood flow, time to peak, permeability surface, blood reflux constant, volume transfer constant, and extracellular extravascular space volume fraction on the prognosis of patients with CRC., Results: Pathological biopsies confirmed the following CRC stages: 23, 23, 32, and 17 at T1, T2, T3, and T4, respectively. There were 39 cases at the N0 stage, 22 at N1, 34 at N2, 44 at M0 stage, and 51 at M1. Using pathological findings as the benchmark, the combined use of MRI and SCT for preoperative TNM staging in patients with CRC demonstrated superior sensitivity, specificity, and accuracy compared with either modality alone, with a statistically significant difference in accuracy ( P < 0.05). Receiver operating characteristic curve analysis revealed the predictive values for laparoscopic treatment prognosis, as indicated by the areas under the curve for blood volume, blood flow, time to peak, and permeability surface, blood reflux constant, volume transfer constant, and extracellular extravascular space volume fraction were 0.750, 0.683, 0.772, 0.761, 0.709, 0.719, and 0.910, respectively. Background: Clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC) is the most prevalent subtype of renal cell carcinoma (RCC). Conventional pathological methods of Fuhrman pathological grading system have limitations. This study aims to investigate the efficacy of radiomics-based multilayer spiral computed tomography (CT) imaging of Fuhrman pathological grading in ccRCC., Methods: A retrospective analysis was conducted on the clinical data of ccRCC patients admitted in our hospital from March 2023 to March 2024. The patients were classified as low-grade (Fuhrman pathological grades I and II) or high-grade (Fuhrman pathological grades III and IV). Statistical methods, including correlation analysis, receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves and construction of a joint predictive model, were utilised to assess the predictive value of these imaging omics indicators for Fuhrman pathological grading in ccRCC. The primary outcome assessment parameter in this study was the predictive value of these imaging omics indicators for Fuhrman pathological grading in ccRCC., Results: The clinical data from 101 ccRCC patients were examined, with 56 cases classified as low-grade and 45 cases as high-grade. The grey-level co-occurrence matrix (GLCM) features between low and high Fuhrman grading groups, including contrast (0.24 ± 0.08 vs. 0.33 ± 0.09), energy (0.73 ± 0.05 vs. 0.67 ± 0.06) and homogeneity (0.63 ± 0.05 vs. 0.57 ± 0.05), showed notable distinctions ( p < 0.001). The CT imaging characteristics between low and high Fuhrman grading groups, including enhancement homogeneity (0.34 ± 0.08 vs. 0.26 ± 0.08) and washout half-time (28.57 ± 4.35 vs. 34.72 ± 5.62) demonstrated a substantial variation between the groups ( p < 0.001). The enhancement homogeneity (r = 0.476), washout half-time (r = -0.519), contrast (r = 0.454), energy (r = -0.453) and homogeneity (r = -0.541) showed significant correlations with Fuhrman pathological grading. This article presents a case report of a young female patient with widespread arterial stenoses that initially appeared to be Takayasu arteritis (TAK), a type of large vessel vasculitis. However, further investigation revealed that the patient had elevated levels of lipoprotein (a) (Lp(a)), a type of low-density lipoprotein associated with accelerated atherosclerosis. The patient also had a family history of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease. Objective. To evaluate the application of endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) combined with multislice spiral CT (MSCT) in the diagnosis and treatment of patients with gastric eminence lesions. Methods. A total of 160 patients with gastric eminence lesions enrolled in our hospital from June 2018 to June 2021 were included and received EUS and MSCT. The results of the two examinations and the postoperative pathological results were compared. Results. The common pathological types of gastric eminence lesions include polyps and stromal tumors, with the most common sites of lesions in the gastric antrum, followed by the fundus of the stomach and the gastric body. Gastric eminence lesions mostly originate from the mucosal layer and muscularis mucosa, accounting for 83.13% of the total. With pathological results as the gold standard, the detection rate of MSCT was 90.63%, and that of EUS was 78.13%. With the joint diagnosis as a reference, the receiver operating curve (ROC) revealed a higher diagnostic efficiency of MSCT and EUS. Conclusion. The accuracy of MSCT in the diagnosis of gastric eminence lesions is significantly higher than that of EUS, both of which can offer useful guidance for the choice of endoscopic treatment methods. Medical imaging can be used as a medical aid for diagnosis and treatment, and color Doppler ultrasound can also be used in life science research as a scientific research method. Wushu is a traditional sport in China, which has a long history of development. Martial arts are a very good fitness project, but different from ordinary people, professional martial arts athletes are often accompanied by a variety of sports injuries, and tendon ligament injury is one of the most common injuries. At present, there are many treatment plans for tendon and ligament injury, but there are few researches on the repair effect of tendon and ligament injury. This paper will take this as the main research purpose for in-depth study. In view of the problem that ligament injury is not easy to observe, this paper will use GE Lightspeed 64 row spiral CT as the main observation tool and use the method of hospital image observation to compare and analyze the repair effect of tendon and ligament injury of Wushu athletes. In this experiment, 88 professional Wushu athletes were gathered as experimental samples. After preliminary screening, 110 cases of ligament injury were counted. After analyzing the abnormal changes of tissue or structure, Lysholm, and IKDC treatment effect score data, this paper believes that, for type I patients, only conservative treatment can achieve good results. However, in the more serious and complex type II patients, local fixation is used after the onset of the disease, and very serious patients can achieve good results through surgical treatment. Postoperative care is also important, which helps reduce complications. Idiopathic inflammatory myopathies (IIM) is a group of heterogeneous autoimmune systemic diseases, which not only involve skeletal muscle but also myocardium. Cardiac involvement in IIM, which eventually develops into heart failure, is difficult to identify by conventional examinations at early stage. The aim of this study was to investigate if multi-parametric cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) imaging can screen for early cardiac involvement in IIM, compared with clinical score (Myositis Disease Activity Assessment Tool, MDAAT). Forty-nine patients of IIM, and 25 healthy control subjects with comparable age-range and sex-ratio were enrolled in this study. All subjects underwent CMR examination, and multi-slice short-axis and 4-chamber cine MRI were acquired to evaluate biventricular global circumferential strain (GCS) and global longitudinal strain (GLS). Native T1 and T2 mapping were performed, and post-contrast T1 mapping and LGE were acquired after administration of contrast. A CMR score was developed from native T1 mean and T2 mean for the identification of cardiac involvement in the IIM cohort. Using contingency tables MDAAT and CMR were compared and statistically analyzed using McNemar test. McNemar's test revealed no significant difference between CMR score and MDAAT (p = 0.454). In order to deeply analyze the application of CT images based on artificial intelligence algorithm in clinical treatment of AIDS patients with gastric cancer, and to provide reference for intervention of AIDS patients with gastric cancer, a total of 100 AIDS patients with gastric cancer were included as the research objects. The patients with CD4+ T lymphocyte count less than 200 cells/µL were in the control group (50 cases), whereas those higher than 200 cells/µL were in the experimental group (50 cases). All the patients underwent 64-slice spiral CT scanning. An improved algebraic reconstruction technology (ART) under L0 algorithmic approach (L0-ART) was proposed, and compared with the total variation (TV), filtered back projection (FBP), and weighted total variation (WTV) models. The standard deviation (STD) and average processing time of the L0-ART algorithm were significantly lower than those of the TV, FBP, and WTV algorithms (P < 0.05). The operation time of the experimental group was longer than that of the control group; the intraoperative blood loss, the diameter of the surgical wound, the time of first farting, the length of hospital stays, and the incidence of adverse reactions were all greatly lower than those of the control group (P < 0.05). Postoperatively, the total adipose tissue (TAT), visceral adipose tissue (VAT), and subcutaneous adipose tissue (SAT) in the abdominal area were higher in the experimental group than those in the control group (P < 0.05). In conclusion, the improved L0-ART algorithm proposed in this study had an excellent processing effect on CT images with a clinical promotion value. Objectives: This study aimed to evaluate the accuracy and reliability of convolutional neural networks (CNNs) for the detection and classification of mandibular fracture on spiral computed tomography (CT). Materials and methods: Between January 2013 and July 2020, 686 patients with mandibular fractures who underwent CT scan were classified and annotated by three experienced maxillofacial surgeons serving as the ground truth. An algorithm including two convolutional neural networks (U-Net and ResNet) was trained, validated, and tested using 222, 56, and 408 CT scans, respectively. The diagnostic performance of the algorithm was compared with the ground truth and evaluated by DICE, accuracy, sensitivity, specificity, and area under the ROC curve (AUC). Results: One thousand five hundred six mandibular fractures in nine subregions of 686 patients were diagnosed. The DICE of mandible segmentation using U-Net was 0.943. The accuracies of nine subregions were all above 90%, with a mean AUC of 0.956. Conclusions: CNNs showed comparable reliability and accuracy in detecting and classifying mandibular fractures on CT. Clinical relevance: The algorithm for automatic detection and classification of mandibular fractures will help improve diagnostic efficiency and provide expertise to areas with lower medical levels. Purpose:Pedicle screw insertion in a deformed and rotated pedicle in scoliosis is technically demanding. A multislice spiral intraoperative computed tomography (iCT)-guided navigation system can assist pedicle screw insertion. However, no studies have been performed to evaluate the pedicle diameter and accuracy of pedicle screw placement in patients with adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS) using one scan iCT-guided navigation. Methods:This was a retrospective cohort study. iCT was performed before screw insertion and after screw insertion. The pedicle diameters in all planned surgical levels were measured. A pedicle with a maximal diameter of less than 4 mm was considered narrow. A screw with a breach distance of ≤ 2 mm was considered accurate. Results:Twenty-nine consecutive patients with AIS received surgery with 415 pedicle screws inserted in 580 planned screw insertion pedicles. Twenty-five patients had been found to have narrow pedicles (86.2%). Overall, the screw accuracy rate was 98.6% (409/415). Thirty-eight screws were inserted in narrow pedicles and the screw accuracy was 84.2% (32/38). There were no major complications after screw insertion. Conclusion:One scan iCT-guided navigation provides a high degree of safety and screw accuracy of 98.6% for pedicle screw placement in AIS. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The aim of this study was to investigate the three-dimensional condylar displacement and long-term remodelling following the correction of asymmetric mandibular prognathism with maxillary canting. Thirty consecutive patients (60 condyles) with asymmetric mandibular prognathism >4 mm and occlusal canting >3 mm, treated by Le Fort I osteotomy and bilateral sagittal split ramus osteotomy, were included. Spiral computed tomography scans obtained at different periods during long-term follow-up (mean 17 ± 7.2 months) were gathered and processed using ITK-SNAP and 3D Slicer. The condyles were subjected to translational and rotational displacements immediately after the surgery (T2), which had not fully returned to the original preoperative positions at the last follow-up (T3). Condylar remodelling was observed at the last follow-up (T3), with the shorter side condyles subjected to higher surface resorption and overall condylar volume loss. The overall condylar volume on the shorter side was significantly reduced compared to the volume on the elongated side (−11.9 ± 90.6 vs −131.7 ± 138.2 mm3; P = 0.001). About 73%, 87%, 53%, and 54% of the shorter side condyles experienced resorption on the posterior, superior, medial, and lateral surfaces, respectively; in contrast, only 50% of the elongated side condyles showed resorption on the superior surface. Higher preoperative asymmetry was significantly correlated with increased postoperative condylar displacement (P < 0.05). The vertical asymmetry and the vector of condylar displacement were associated with the resultant remodelling process. Aims  Women with severe aortic stenosis (AS) have better long-term outcome after transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) but worse survival after surgical aortic valve replacement compared with men. Whether this is related to sex differences in left ventricular (LV) remodelling is unknown. The aim of this study was to examine the sex differences in LV remodelling with multidetector row computed tomography (MDCT) and outcome in patients with severe AS undergoing TAVI between 2007 and 2018. Methods and results  A total of 289 patients (age 80 ± 6 years, 54% male) were included. LV volumes, mass, and function were analysed on pre-procedural MDCT scans. Women showed smaller LV volumes and mass compared with men. Patients were classified into four LV remodelling patterns: concentric hypertrophy (50%) was the most frequent pattern of LV remodelling followed by eccentric hypertrophy (33%), normal geometry (13%), and concentric remodelling (4%). Men showed more concentric remodelling compared with women (91% vs. 9%, respectively, P = 0.011). However, no differences were observed in the remaining LV remodelling patterns. During a median follow-up of 3.8 (IQR 2.2–5.1) years after TAVI, 87 (30%) patients died. Women demonstrated better outcome after TAVI compared with men (log-rank χ 2 = 4.29, P = 0.038). No association was observed between the interaction of the LV remodelling patterns and sex with outcome. Conclusion  LV concentric hypertrophy and eccentric hypertrophy are similarly observed in men and women with severe AS but concentric remodelling was more common in men. The National Health Systems have been severely stressed out by the COVID-19 pandemic because 14% of patients require hospitalization and oxygen support, and 5% require admission to an Intensive Care Unit (ICU). Relationship between COVID-19 prognosis and the extent of alterations on chest CT obtained by both visual and software-based quantification that expresses objective evaluations of the percentage of ventilated lung parenchyma compared to the affected one has been proven. While commercial applications for automatic medical image computing and visualization are expensive and limited in their spread, the open-source systems are characterized by not enough standardization and time-consuming troubles. We analyzed chest CT exams on 246 patients suspected of COVID-19 performed in the Emergency Department CT room. The lung parenchyma segmentation was obtained by a threshold-based method using the open-source 3D Slicer software and software tools called "Segment Editor" and "Segment Quantification." For the three main characteristics analyzed on lungs affected by COVID-19 pneumonia, a specifical densitometry value range was defined: from − 950 to − 700 HU for well-aerated parenchyma; from − 700 to − 250 HU for interstitial lung disease; from − 250 to 250 HU for parenchymal consolidation. For the well-aerated parenchyma and the interstitial alterations, the procedure was semi-automatic with low time consumption, whereas consolidations' analysis needed manual interventions by the operator. After the chest CT, 13% of the sample was admitted to intensive care, while 34% of them to the sub-intensive care. In patients moved to intensive care, the parenchyma analysis reported a higher crazy paving presentation. The quantitative analysis of the alterations affecting the lung parenchyma of patients with COVID-19 pneumonia can be performed by threshold method segmentation on 3D Slicer. The segmentation could have an important role in the quantification in different COVID-19 pneumonia presentations, allowing to help the clinician in the correct management of patients. In order to explore the diagnostic value of spiral CT and magnetic resonance imaging scanning in gastric cancer and precancerous lesions, the author selected 56 gastric cancer patients treated in a medical center (group) as the experimental subjects, and all patients underwent MRI, multislice spiral CT scan, and enhanced CT scan two weeks before surgery; at the same time, the gastric cancer staging results of patients were diagnosed according to surgical pathology. All patients were examined under the condition of knowledge and performed breath-holding exercise before examination. The status, location, and extent of tumor lesions were evaluated. In comparison of T staging of gastric cancer patients with magnetic resonance scanning imaging and postoperative pathological examination results, among them, T staging of 3 patients did not match the results of pathological examination, the accuracy rates of T staging on magnetic resonance scanning imaging were T 1 = 94.7 % , T 2 = 87.6 % , T 3 = 91.2 % , and T 4 = 94.7 % , and the total accuracy was 92.1%. Comparison of helical CT scan imaging and postoperative pathological examination results is as follows. Among them, T staging of 8 patients did not match the results of pathological examination, 3 patients were ulcerative, 5 were protuberance, the accuracy rates of T staging in spiral CT scan imaging were T 1 = 90.8 % , T 2 = 82.2 % , T 3 = 76.9 % , and T 4 = 87.6 % , and the total accuracy was 84.5%. The total accuracy rate of imaging N staging was 77.5%, and the total accuracy rate of spiral CT scanning imaging N staging was 80.8%. The accuracy rates of M0 and M1 staging in magnetic resonance imaging were 100.0% and 96.5%, respectively, and the accuracy rates of M0 and M1 staging in spiral CT scan imaging were 96.5% and 96.5%, respectively. The accuracy rate of magnetic resonance imaging for the diagnosis of gastric cancer N staging was 77.4%, and the reason for the low accuracy rate was mainly because the enhancement effect was not obvious due to insufficient enhancement. The accuracy rate of spiral CT in diagnosing N staging of gastric cancer was 80.9%, which was mainly due to the small diameter of the middle celiac artery lymph nodes. Detailed descriptions of acute pulmonary emboli (PE) morphology, total embolic volume (TEV), and their effects upon patients' clinical presentation and prognosis remain largely unexplored. We studied 201 subjects with acute PE to the emergency department of a single medical center from April 2009 to December 2014. Patient hemodynamics, Troponin I and D-dimer levels, echocardiography, and the 30-day, 90-day and long-term mortality were obtained. Contrast-enhanced computed tomography (CT) of pulmonary structures and 3-dimensional measures of embolic burden were performed. The results showed a linear association between the greater TEV and each of the following 4 variables (increasing incidence of right ventricular (RV) dysfunction, higher systolic pulmonary artery pressure (sPAP), greater RV diameter, and RV/left ventricular (LV) ratio (all p < 0.001)). Among the measures of CT and echocardiography, TEV and RV/LV ratio were significantly associated with impending shock. In backward stepwise logistic regression, TEV, age and respiratory rate remained independent associated with impending shock (OR: 1.58, 1.03, 1.18, respectively and all p < 0.005).Total embolic burden assessed by CT-based quantification serves as a useful index for stressed cardiopulmonary circulation condition and can provide insights into RV dysfunction and the prediction of impending shock. Background and Purpose: Computerized tomography (CT) scans are commonly performed to assist in diagnosis and treatment of locally advanced rectal cancer (LARC). This study assessed the usefulness of pretreatment CT-based radiomics for predicting pathological complete response (pCR) of LARC to neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy (nCRT). Materials and Methods: Patients with LARC who underwent nCRT followed by total mesorectal excision surgery from July 2010 to December 2018 were enrolled in this retrospective study. A total of 340 radiomic features were extracted from pretreatment contrast-enhanced CT images. The most relevant features to pCR were selected using the least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) method and a radiomic signature was generated. Predictive models were built with radiomic features and clinico-pathological variables. Model performance was assessed with decision curve analysis and was validated in an independent cohort. Results: The pCR was achieved in 44 of the 216 consecutive patients (20.4%) in this study. The model with the best performance used both radiomics and clinical variables including radiomic signatures, distance to anal verge, lymphocyte-to-monocyte ratio, and carcinoembryonic antigen. This combined model discriminated between patients with and without pCR with an area under the curve of 0.926 and 0.872 in the training and the validation cohorts, respectively. The combined model also showed better performance than models built with radiomic or clinical variables alone. To evaluate the clinical application effect of spiral computed tomography (CT) three-dimensional (3D) reconstruction based on artificial intelligence in transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI), a CT 3D reconstruction model based on deep convolutional neural networks (DCNN) was established in this research, which was compared with the model-based iterative reconstruction (MBIR) and used in clinical practice. Then, 62 patients with aortic stenosis (AS) who underwent TAVI surgery were recruited as the research objects. The accuracy, sensitivity, and specificity of the multislice spiral CT scan (MSCT) and transthoracic echocardiography (TTE) in predicting the type of TAVI surgical valve were compared and analyzed. The results showed that the mean absolute error (MAE) (0.01) and root mean square error (RMSE) (0.086) of the MBIR model were higher than the reconstruction model in this research. The structural similarity (SSIM) (0.831) and peak signal-to noise ratio (PSNR) (32.77 dB) of the MBIR model were lower than the reconstruction model, and the differences were considerable (P < 0.05). Of the valve models selected based on the TTE measurement results, 35 cases were accurately predicted and 27 cases were incorrectly predicted. The accuracy of MSCT was 87.1%, the specificity was 98.84%, and the sensitivity was 92.87%; all of which were significantly higher than TTE (P < 0.05). In summary, compared with the MBIR reconstruction model, the imaging results of the model established in this research were closer to the real image. We examined the longitudinal and cross-sectional relationship between automated MRI-analysis and single-slice axial CT imaging for determining muscle size and muscle fat infiltration (MFI) of the anterior thigh. Twenty-two patients completing sex-hormone treatment expected to result in muscle hypertrophy (n = 12) and atrophy (n = 10) underwent MRI scans using 2-point Dixon fat/water-separated sequences and CT scans using a system operating at 120 kV and a fixed flux of 100 mA. At baseline and 12 months after, automated volumetric MRI analysis of the anterior thigh was performed bilaterally, and fat-free muscle volume and MFI were computed. In addition, cross-sectional area (CSA) and radiological attenuation (RA) (as a marker of fat infiltration) were calculated from single slice axial CT-images using threshold-assisted planimetry. Linear regression models were used to convert units. There was a strong correlation between MRI-derived fat-free muscle volume and CT-derived CSA (R = 0.91), and between MRI-derived MFI and CT-derived RA (R = −0.81). The 95% limits of agreement were ±0.32 L for muscle volume and ±1.3% units for %MFI. The longitudinal change in muscle size and MFI was comparable across imaging modalities. Both automated MRI and single-slice CT-imaging can be used to reliably quantify anterior thigh muscle size and MFI. This is the first study examining the intermodal agreement between automated MRI analysis and CT-image assessment of muscle size and MFI in the anterior thigh muscles.
