Objetivo: Este estudo visou avaliar o desempenho da razão cintura-estatura (RCE) como indicador complementar do estado nutricional na primeira fase da adolescência. Métodos: Trata-se de estudo transversal com 148 adolescentes (10 a 13 anos de idade) de duas escolas de Macaé, RJ, realizado em 2016/2017. Foram coletadas informações de maturação sexual, peso, estatura e perímetro da cintura (PC). Para verificar como as classificações do índice de massa corporal-para-idade (IMC/I), PC e RCE dialogam em termos de triagem de risco em saúde, foi feito o teste Kappa. Os limites máximos de sensibilidade e especificidade da RCE segundo o IMC/I foram analisados pela curva ROC (Receiver Operating Characteristics). Resultados: Dentre os avaliados, 51,4% eram meninas e mais de 60% encontravam-se nos dois primeiros estágios de maturação sexual. A prevalência de excesso de peso (sobrepeso+obesidade) foi 31,8%, obesidade 17,6% e RCE elevada 20,3%, sem diferença segundo sexo e maturação sexual. A RCE apresentou boa concordância com excesso de peso (Kappa=0,707) e obesidade (Kappa=0,780). Já a concordância entre IMC/I e PC foi pobre. O valor de 0,45 da RCE foi o ponto de corte mais adequado para identificar os adolescentes com excesso de peso. Conclusões: Este trabalho sugere que a RCE apresenta melhor desempenho que o PC como indicador complementar do estado nutricional no início da adolescência. A RCE agrega informação sobre a gordura central ponderada pela estatura, não requer curva de comparação e apresenta ponto de corte, o que facilita ações de triagem nos serviços de saúde e em estudos epidemiológicos.

Purpose: The difficulty in risk assessing oral leukoplakia (OL) for malignant transformation has recently been reduced as novel strategies based on DNA content measurements have been providing consistent and reproducible predictive values, with a major advantage of using archived material. Regrettably, most such approaches are based on costly equipment and human resources that are not widely available, especially in populations with limited access to dedicated technology. The aim of this study was to investigate DNA content as a predictive marker of malignant transformation adapting novel image-based cytometry advances to a conventional flow cytometry context. Patient and methods: Nuclei isolation was performed enzymatically on thick sections from paraffin embedded tissue from 97 cases, 18 that progressed to oral carcinoma and 79 that did not. Flow cytometry was used to establish DNA content based on propidium iodide fluorescent labeling of nuclear suspensions. Exposure to nanoparticles (NPs) is frequently associated with adverse cardiovascular effects. In contrast, NPs in nanomedicine hold great promise for precise lung‐specific drug delivery, especially considering the extensive pulmonary capillary network that facilitates interactions with bloodstream‐suspended particles. Therefore, exact knowledge about effects of engineered NPs within the pulmonary microcirculation are instrumental for future application of this technology in patients. To unravel the real‐time dynamics of intravenously delivered NPs and their effects in the pulmonary microvasculature, we employed intravital microscopy of the mouse lung. Only PEG‐amine‐QDs, but not carboxyl‐QDs triggered rapid neutrophil recruitment in microvessels and their subsequent recruitment to the alveolar space and was linked to cellular degranulation, TNF‐α, and DAMP release into the circulation, particularly eATP. Stimulation of the ATP‐gated receptor P2X7R induced expression of E‐selectin on microvascular endothelium thereby mediating the neutrophilic immune response. Leukocyte integrins LFA‐1 and MAC‐1 facilitated adhesion and decelerated neutrophil crawling on the vascular surface. In summary, this study unravels the complex cascade of neutrophil recruitment during NP‐induced sterile inflammation. Thereby we demonstrate novel adverse effects for NPs in the pulmonary microcirculation and provide critical insights for optimizing NP‐based drug delivery and therapeutic intervention strategies, to ensure their efficacy and safety in clinical applications. Diapause is a vital survival strategy for insects, enabling them to conserve energy and endure adverse conditions. Understanding how diapause affects insect phenology and population dynamics is crucial for the effective management of insect pests. Predictive pest phenological models can be invaluable tools for providing essential information to support management strategies. This study presents a modelling framework to incorporate diapause into phenological models when biological information on variables regulating and functions describing diapause induction and termination are lacking or limited. In our framework, insect phenology is divided into a set of phases characterized by specific events (diapause induction and termination) and processes (development of diapausing and post‐diapausing biological stages). The phenology is simulated by a stage‐structured model based on the Kolmogorov equation, and the temperature‐dependent development rate functions are described by the Brière functional form. Our modelling framework was tested on a case study involving the prediction of the phenology of the codling moth, (Cydia pomonella L. 1758). Model calibration and validation were performed using four time‐series adult trap catch data collected in the Emilia Romagna Region from 2021 to 2023. The calibration procedure allowed obtaining realistic parameters related to the temperature threshold triggering diapause termination and the development rate function of post‐diapausing larvae and pupae. Model validation proved successful in simulating both the initial emergence and the overall phenological patterns of adults across the three observed generations. The methodological framework proposed here aims to facilitate the introduction of diapause in phenological models improving also their predictive abilities. The model may serve as an accurate and knowledge‐based tool for planning and implementing pest monitoring and control actions based on the realistic predictions provided by the model on the phenological status of the pest. The biopharmaceutical industry has specificities related to the optimization of its processes, the effectiveness of the maintenance of the productive park in the face of regulatory requirements. and current concepts of modern industry. Current research on the subject points to investments in the health area using the current tools and concepts of Industry 4.0 (I4.0) with the objective of a more assertive production, reduction of maintenance costs, reduction of operating risks, and minimization of equipment idle time. In this context, this study aims to characterize the current knowledge about the challenges of the biopharmaceutical industry in the application of prescriptive maintenance, which derives from predictive maintenance, in the context of I4.0. To achieve this, a systematic review of the literature was carried out in the scientific knowledge bases IEEE Xplore, Scopus, Web of Science, Science Direct, and Google Scholar, considering works such as Reviews, Article Research, and Conference Abstracts published between 2018 and 2023. The results obtained revealed that prescriptive maintenance offers opportunities for improvement in the production process, such as cost reduction and greater proximity to all actors in the areas of production, maintenance, quality, and management. The limitations presented in the literature include a reduced number of models, the lack of a clearer understanding of its construction, lack of applications directly linked to the biopharmaceutical industry, and lack of measurement of costs and implementation time of these models. There are significant advances in this area including the implementation of more elaborate algorithms used in artificial intelligence neural networks, the advancement of the use of decision support systems as well as the collection of data in a more structured and intelligent way. It is concluded that for the adoption of prescriptive maintenance in the pharmaceutical industry, issues such as the definition of data entry and analysis methods, interoperability between "shop floor" and corporate systems, as well as the integration of technologies existing in the world, must be considered for I4.0. Fasciolosis is a parasitosis of great importance for livestock, as well as for public health, as it is considered by the WHO as a neglected disease. Disease control is complex and reinfections make the use of therapeutic products an unsustainable method from an economic, environmental and health point of view. The aim of this study was to evaluate a new vaccine formulation for dairy cattle, containing soluble Fasciola hepatica antigens associated with Montanide 763 AVG and saponin adjuvants (FhSAMS). The vaccine was tested with two protocols, a single dose and a booster dose 6 months after the first dose. The FhSAMS vaccine proved to be safe, with no side effects. Furthermore, it was able to generate a more robust humoral immune response when a six‐month booster dose was used, in addition to stimulating greater production of IFN‐ʏ, indicating a Th1 profile immune stimulus. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of ozonation in controlling Pseudomonas spp. biofilm in the food industry, and present possible parameters influencing this process. The study followed the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines. The search was conducted in the PubMed, EMBASE, ScienceDirect, and Scopus databases. Eleven articles published between 1993 and 2023 were included in the study, indicating that the topic has been under investigation for several decades, gaining more prominence in recent years. Studies have demonstrated the antimicrobial effect of ozone under different experimental conditions, indicating that it is an effective strategy. Furthermore, they suggest that, in addition to ozone concentration and exposure time, other parameters such as the type of materials used in processing plants, hydrodynamic conditions, water temperature, and knowledge of commonly found microorganisms contribute to the effectiveness of the process aimed at reducing microbial counts. In conclusion, the available evidence suggests that ozonation in controlling Pseudomonas spp. can be considered a promising antimicrobial strategy. Herein, the development of a niobium-based metal–organic framework (Nb-MOF) designed to serve as a catalytic support for the production of hydrogen (H2) from sodium borohydride (NaBH4) is reported. The Nb-MOF was synthesized via a solvothermal method using niobium ammoniacal oxalate (AmOxaNb) as the metal source and 1,4-benzenedicarboxylic acid (BDC) as the ligand. The resulting MOF was characterized by Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS). The characterization study confirmed the successful synthesis of Nb-MOF. The catalytic activity was optimized by examining five key factors: (i) platinum (Pt) and cobalt (Co) bimetallic compositions (ranging from 1:0 to 0:1 mmol), (ii) NaBH4 concentration (0.2, 0.3, 0.4, and 0.5 mol L−1), (iii) the Nb-MOF/Pt–Co catalyst dose (0.05, 0.10, 0.20, and 0.40 mmol), (iv) sodium hydroxide (NaOH) concentration (0.01, 0.05, 0.1, and 0.2 mol L−1), and (v) system temperature (293.15, 298.15, 303.15, 313.15, and 323.15 K). The optimal catalyst was identified as Nb-MOF supporting a Pt-Co bimetallic composition in a 0.4:0.6 mmol ratio, achieving a hydrogen generation rate (HGR) of 1473 mL min−1 gcat−1 and an activation energy of 19.2 kJ mol−1. Furthermore, this catalyst maintained its efficiency over 20 cycles, demonstrating significant potential as a sustainable solution for H2 evolution from NaBH4. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Soybeans, a vital source of protein for animal feed and an essential industrial raw material, are the most traded agricultural commodity worldwide. Accurate price forecasting is crucial for maintaining a resilient global food supply chain and has significant implications for agricultural economics and policymaking. This review examines over 100 soybean price forecast models published in the last decade, evaluating them based on the specific markets they target—futures or spot—while highlighting how differences between these markets influence critical model design decisions. The models are also classified into AI-powered and traditional categories, with an initial aim to conduct a statistical analysis comparing the performance of these two groups. This process unveiled a fundamental gap in best practices, particularly regarding the use of common benchmarks and standardised performance metrics, which limits the ability to make meaningful cross-study comparisons. Finally, this study underscores another important research gap: the lack of models forecasting soybean futures prices in Brazil, the world's largest producer and exporter. Italian legislation requires that all pupils with special needs be integrated in regular classes through cooperation between the class and special education teachers. After school closure in February 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, teachers had to work together to arrange online inclusive activities for all the pupils in their classes. The Department of Education at the University of Genoa (Italy) designed a qualitative study aimed at investigating the factors affecting e-inclusion through a questionnaire composed of six open-ended questions. A total of 785 teachers filled out the instrument in April 2020. The responses were analysed by combining qualitative content analysis with statistical textual analysis. The findings indicate that effective e-inclusion depends on technologies, relationships with families, collaboration among teachers and online teaching strategies; in particular, teachers had to create personalised activities through asynchronous and synchronous interactive ways for students to engage in, preferably in small groups and individually.

This study describes the development and initial testing of the Multidimensional Cultural Humility Scale (MCHS), a counselor-report scale to measure a counselor's cultural humility, with a sample of 861 participants. Exploratory factor analysis, confirmatory factor analysis, and internal reliability coefficients revealed evidence for the convergent and discriminant validity and internal reliability of scores on the scale.

Over 1.7 billion students around the world have had their education disrupted by the spread of the Coronavirus disease worldwide. Schools and universities have not faced this level of disruption since World War II. The COVID-19 pandemic presented a colossal challenge for teachers to urgently and massively adapt all their classes to distance learning in order to maintain educational continuity with the same quality. Even if some teachers and certain classes were ready to face the situation, a large majority had to adapt their teaching and learning in a very short time without training, with insufficient bandwidth, and with little preparation. This unexpected and rapid transition to online learning has led to a multiplication of teachers' strategies for distance learning in lectures, tutorials, project groups, lab works, and assessments. The purpose of this paper is to present the feedback from students and teachers who participated in the lockdown semester of two different groups of a 5-year program in Chemistry, Environment and Chemical Engineering (100 students) at INSA Toulouse (France). The analysis has highlighted some great successes and some failures in the solutions proposed. Consequently, some guidelines can be given to help us all to learn the lessons of such a singular experience in order to face the unexpected future with more knowledge and more successful distance learning. Teachers have shown very strong resilience during this crisis, at the cost of significant personal commitment. They admit that they have learned more about distance education in two months than in the last 10 years.
