An evaluation of the different project management software packages is imperative for project managers who generally wish to utilize the software which has the most resource-allocation capabilities. A comparative analysis of such software can be accomplished via identification of widely used software. This can be followed by testing using sample problems and then ranking according to its resource-allocation capability. Test results can be analyzed through error analysis and paired-regression analysis.

Abstract

A procedure for the selective generation of abstract, data flow oriented tests from a LOTOS specification is introduced. The method consists of two stages, namely, the application of static data flow analysis and guided inference rules. In the first phase, the specification is modelled as a flowgraph to identify the maximal 10-df-chains which define the input-output relations. The maximal 10-df-chains are used as guides by inference rules to generate abstract test sequences.

To ensure quality data from a meteorological observing network, a well-designed quality control system is vital. Automated quality assurance (QA) software developed by the Oklahoma Mesonetwork (Mesonet) provides an efficient means to sift through over 500 000 observations ingested daily from the Mesonet and from a Micronet sponsored by the Agricultural Research Service of the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA). However, some of nature's most interesting meteorological phenomena produce data that fail many automated QA tests. This means perfectly good observations are flagged as erroneous. Cold air pooling, 'inversion poking,' mesohighs, mesolows, heat bursts, variations in snowfall and snow cover, and microclimatic effects produced by variations in vegetation are meteorological phenomena that pose a problem for the Mesonet's automated QA tests. Despite the fact that the QA software has been engineered for most observations of real meteorological phenomena to pass the various tests--but is stringent enough to catch malfunctioning sensors--erroneous flags are often placed on data during extreme events. This manuscript describes how the Mesonet's automated QA tests responded to data captured from microscale meteorological events that, in turn, were flagged as erroneous by the tests. The Mesonet's operational plan is to catalog these extreme events in a database so QA flags can be changed manually by expert eyes.

Abstract

We describe the implementation of a streaming client-server system for object-based audio-visual presentations in general and MPEG-4 content in particular. The system augments the MPEG-4 demonstration software implementation (IM1) for PC's by adding network-based operation with full support for the Delivery Multimedia Integration Framework (DMIF) specification, a streaming PC-based server with DMIF support (via Xbind Inc.'s XDMIF suite), and multiplexing software. We describe XDMIF, the first reference implementation of the DMIF specification. The MPEG-4 server is designed for delivering object-based audio-visual presentation. We discuss the issues in the design and implementation of MPEG-4 servers. The system also implements a novel architecture for client-server interaction in object-based audio-visual presentations, using the mechanism of command routes and command descriptors. This new concept of command routes and command descriptors is useful in developing sophisticated interactive applications.
