This study examined the relationship between disability, gender and access to physician services due to cost using data from the 2005 Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System. Results showed that women with disabilities are less likely than women without disabilities and men with disabilities to report not having seen a physician due to cost. A person with a disability is twice as likely to report not having seen a physician due to cost and women are approximately one and one half times as likely to report not having seen a physician due to cost. The purpose of this paper was to determine the relationship between race, perceptions of racism and disability on life satisfaction. Data from the 2005 Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS) examined through chi square and regression analysis found that African Americans with disabilities and without disabilities show a stronger relationship between dissatisfaction with life and perceived racism in the work and health care settings than Caucasians. Other issues such as lower employment and income contribute to dissatisfaction with life significantly more for African Americans. Regression analysis showed that having a disability and perceived racism decreased the likelihood of life satisfaction. In the United States, nearly one in five persons report some type of long lasting condition or disability (U.S. Bureau of Census, 2000). However, the employment rate for persons with disabilities is 37.5% compared to persons without disabilities at 77.8% (StatsRRTC, 2005). The objective of this study was to examine data from the Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System, a survey conducted by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, from 1995 through 2003 to determine if there is a significant relationship between type of disability and employment. Results from cross-tabulations and regression analysis show that persons with orthopedic, heart and emotional problems, stroke and diabetes, consistently show the lowest levels of employment. However, the most significant finding was that difficulty performing personal care and routine needs was far more predictive of unemployment than any single diagnosis. The electrochemistry of 1,2-dinitrobenzene (1,2-DNB), 1,3-dinitrobenzene (1,3-DNB), and 1,4-dinitrobenzene (1,4-DNB) is strongly affected by the presence of 1,3-diphenylurea. Computer simulations show that the changes in wave shape accompanying this process are well accounted for by the stepwise formation of a 1:1 and 2:1 1,3-diphenylurea/DNB(super 2-) complex.

A very strong, reversible, redox-dependent interaction between nitrobenzene derivatives and aryl ureas in aprotic solvents is demonstrated. The synthetic ease with which nitro groups could be added to aromatic rings suggests that this system could be useful for the creation of more elaborate receptors with greater selectivity and functionality.

Electrodes modified with Nation films containing 2, 7-dimethyldiazapyrenium ([DAP.sup.2+]) were prepared and characterized with voltammetry by themselves and in the presence of organic substrates. The large, planar, electron-poor aromatic surface in [DAP.sup.2+] facilitates [pi]-stacking interactions with other planar aromatic molecules, particularly those that are negatively charged or electron-rich. Previous studies showed that the reduction of [DAP.sup.2+] decreases the strength of these interactions, making the binding redox-dependent, and resulting in negative shifts in the [E.sub.1/2] of [DAP.sup.2+/+]. This study shows that the redox-dependent binding ability of [DAP.sup.2+] is retained in Nation, but the selectivity is considerably different. Most significantly, the electron-rich, neutral aromatic compounds that produced small shifts in the [E.sub.1/2] of [DAP.sup.2+/+] in solution cause much larger shifts, up to -110 mV, with the modified electrodes. With indole as a substrate, Nernstian behavior is observed (-60 mV shift per log[indole]) between 10 and 0.5 mM.
