Abstract

We present results for the moments of observed spectra in inclusive semileptonic B-meson decays to charm hadrons B̄→Xc -ν̄. Moments of the hadronic-mass and the combined mass-and-energy spectra for different minimum electron or muon momenta between 0.8 and 1.9GeV/c are obtained from a sample of 232×106 Υ(4S)→BB̄ events, collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy B-meson factory at SLAC. We also present a reevaluation of the moments of electron-energy spectra and partial decay fractions B(B̄→Xce-ν̄) for minimum electron momenta between 0.6 and 1.5GeV/c based on a sample of 51×106 Υ(4S)→BB̄ events. The measurements are used for the extraction of the total decay fraction, the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa (CKM) matrix element |Vcb|, the quark masses mb and mc, and four heavy-quark QCD parameters in the framework of a Heavy-Quark Expansion (HQE). We find B(B̄→Xc -ν̄)= (10.64±0.17±0.06)% and |Vcb|=(42.05±0.45±0.70) ×10-3. © 2010 The American Physical Society.

Abstract

We present a study of the inclusive D*± production in the decay of Υ(1S) using (98.6±0.9)×106 Υ(2S) mesons collected with the BABAR detector at the Υ(2S) resonance. Using the decay chain Υ(2S)→π+π-Υ(1S), Υ(1S)→D*±X, where X is unobserved, we measure the branching fraction B[Υ(1S)→D*±X]=(2. 52±0.13(stat)±0.15(syst))% and the D*± momentum distribution in the rest frame of the Υ(1S). We find evidence for an excess of D*± production over the expected rate from the virtual photon annihilation process Υ(1S)→γ *→cc̄→D*±X. © 2010 The American Physical Society.

Abstract

We present a search for the radiative leptonic decay B+→≤+ v≤ γ, where ≤=e, μ, using a data sample of 465×106 BB̄ pairs collected by the BABAR experiment. In this analysis, we fully reconstruct the hadronic decay of one of the B mesons in Υ(4S)→B+B- decays, then search for evidence of B+→≤+ν≤γ in the rest of the event. We observe no significant evidence of signal decays and report model-independent branching fraction upper limits of B(B+→e+νeγ)

Abstract

We present updated measurements of the branching fractions for B0 meson decays to ηK0, ηη, ηφ, ηω, η′K0, η′η′, η′φ, and η′ω, and branching fractions and CP-violating charge asymmetries for B+ decays to ηπ+, ηK+, η′π+, and η′K+. The data represent the full data set of 467×106 BB̄ pairs collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy e+e- collider at the SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory. Besides large signals for the four charged B decay modes and for B0→η′K0, we find evidence for three B0 decay modes at greater than 3.0σ significance. We find B(B0→ηK0)=(1.15-0.38+0. 43±0.09)×10-6, B(B0→ηω)=(0.94-0.30+0.35±0.09) ×10-6, and B(B0→η′ω)=(1.01-0.38+0.46±0.09) ×10-6, where the first (second) uncertainty is statistical (systematic). For the B+→ηK+ decay mode, we measure the charge asymmetry Ach(B+→ηK+)=-0.36±0.11±0.03. © 2009 The American Physical Society.

Abstract

We perform a time-dependent amplitude analysis of B0→KS0π+π- decays to extract the CP violation parameters of f0(980)KS0 and ρ0(770)KS0 and the direct CP asymmetry of K*+(892)π-. The results are obtained from a data sample of (383±3)×106 BB̄ decays, collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy B factory at SLAC. We find two solutions, with an equivalent goodness-of-fit. Including systematic and Dalitz plot model uncertainties, the combined confidence interval for values of the CP parameter βeff in B0 decays to f0(980)KS0 is 18°

Abstract

We present the result from a precision measurement of the mass of the τ lepton, Mτ, based on 423fb-1 of data recorded at the Υ(4S) resonance with the BABAR detector. Using a pseudomass endpoint method, we determine the mass to be 1776.68±0.12(stat)±0.41(syst)MeV. We also measure the mass difference between the τ+ and τ-, and obtain (Mτ+-Mτ-)/ MAVGτ=(-3.4±1.3(stat)±0.3(syst))×10-4, where MAVGτ is the average value of Mτ+ and Mτ-. © 2009 The American Physical Society.

Abstract

We present measurements of the branching fraction B and longitudinal polarization fraction fL for B0→a1(1260)+a1(1260)- decays, with a1(1260)±→π-π+π±. The data sample, collected with the BABAR detector at the SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory, represents 465×106 produced BB̄ pairs. We measure B(B0→a1(1260)+a1(1260)-) ×[B(a1(1260)+→π-π+π+)]2=(11.8±2.6±1.6) ×10-6 and fL=0.31±0.22±0.10, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second systematic. The decay mode is measured with a significance of 5.0 standard deviations including systematic uncertainties. © 2009 The American Physical Society.

Abstract

We observe the decays Ds1*(2710)+→D*K and DsJ*(2860)+→D*K and measure their branching fractions relative to the DK final state. We also observe, in the D*K mass spectrum, a new broad structure at a mass of (3044±8stat(+30-5)syst)MeV/c2 having a width Γ=(239±35stat(+46-42)syst)MeV. To obtain this result we use 470fb-1 of data recorded by the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy e+e- storage rings at the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center running at center-of-mass energies near 10.6 GeV. © 2009 The American Physical Society.

Abstract

We study the decay B-→DK*- using a sample of 379×106 Υ(4S)→BB̄ events collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II B factory. We perform a Gronau-London-Wyler analysis where the D meson decays into either a CP-even (CP+) eigenstate (K+K-, π+π-), CP-odd (CP-) eigenstate (KS0π0, KS0, KS0ω) or a non-CP state (K-π+). We also analyze D meson decays into K+π- from a Cabibbo-favored D̄0 decay or doubly suppressed D0 decay [Atwood-Dunietz-Soni (ADS) analysis]. We measure observables that are sensitive to the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa angle γ: the partial-rate charge asymmetries ACP±, the ratios RCP± of the B-decay branching fractions in CP± and non-CP decay, the ratio RADS of the charge-averaged branching fractions, and the charge asymmetry AADS of the ADS decays: ACP+=0.09±0.13±0.06, ACP-=-0.23±0.21±0. 07, RCP+=2.17±0.35±0.09, RCP-=1.03±0.27±0.13, RADS=0.066±0.031±0.010, and AADS=-0.34±0.43±0.16, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic. Combining all the measurements and using a frequentist approach yields the magnitude of the ratio between the Cabibbo-suppressed and favored amplitudes, rB=0.31 with a one (two) sigma confidence level interval of [0.24, 0.38] ([0.17, 0.43]). The value rB=0 is excluded at the 3.3 sigma level. A similar analysis excludes values of γ in the intervals [0, 7]°, [55, 111]°, and [175, 180]°([85, 99]°) at the one (two) sigma confidence level. © 2009 The American Physical Society.

Abstract

We measure the rate of D0-D̄0 mixing with the observable yCP=(τKπ/τKK)-1, where τKK and τKπ are, respectively, the mean lifetimes of CP-even D0→K+K- and CP-mixed D0→K-π+ decays, using a data sample of 384fb-1 collected by the BABAR detector at the SLAC PEP-II asymmetric-energy B Factory. From a sample of D0 and D̄0 decays where the initial flavor of the decaying meson is not determined, we obtain yCP=[1.12±0.26(stat)±0.22(syst)]%, which excludes the no-mixing hypothesis at 3.3σ, including both statistical and systematic uncertainties. This result is in good agreement with a previous BABAR measurement of yCP obtained from a sample of D*+→D0π+ events, where the D0 decays to K-π+, K+K-, and π+π-, which is disjoint with the untagged D0 events used here. Combining the two results taking into account statistical and systematic uncertainties, where the systematic uncertainties are assumed to be 100% correlated, we find yCP=[1.16±0.22(stat)±0. 18(syst)]%, which excludes the no-mixing hypothesis at 4.1σ. © 2009 The American Physical Society.

Abstract

We report the observation of the baryonic B-decay B̄0→Λ c+p̄K-π+, excluding contributions from the decay B̄0→Λ c+Λ̄K-. Using a data sample of 467×106 BB̄ pairs collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II storage ring at SLAC, the measured branching fraction is (4.33±0.82stat±0.33syst±1. 13Λc+)×10-5. In addition we find evidence for the resonant decay B̄0→Σc(2455)++p̄K- and determine its branching fraction to be (1.11±0.30stat±0.09syst±0.29Λc+)×10-5. The errors are statistical, systematic, and due to the uncertainty in the Λc+ branching fraction. For the resonant decay B̄0→Λc+p̄ K̄*0 we obtain an upper limit of 2.42×10-5 at 90% confidence level. © 2009 The American Physical Society.

Abstract

We study the reaction e+e-→e+e-π0 in the single tag mode and measure the differential cross section dσ/dQ2 and the γγ *→π0 transition form factor in the momentum transfer range from 4 to 40GeV2. At Q2>10GeV2 the measured form factor exceeds the asymptotic limit predicted by perturbative QCD. The analysis is based on 442fb-1 of integrated luminosity collected at PEP-II with the BABAR detector at e+e- center-of-mass energies near 10.6 GeV. © 2009 The American Physical Society.

Abstract

We present a search for decays of B mesons to final states with a b1 meson and a ρ or K*(892) meson. The search is based on a data sample consisting of 465 million BB̄ pairs collected by the BABAR detector at the SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory. We do not observe any statistically significant signal. The upper limits we set on the branching fractions range from 1.4 to 8.0×10-6 at the 90% confidence level, including systematic uncertainties. © 2009 The American Physical Society.

Abstract

We describe searches for B0 meson decays to the charmless final states π0KS0KS0, ηKS0KS0, and η′KS0KS0. The data sample corresponds to 467×106 BB̄ pairs produced in e+e- annihilation and collected with the BABAR detector at the SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory. We find no significant signals and determine the 90% confidence level upper limits on the branching fractions, in units of 10-7, B(B0→π0KS0KS0)

Abstract

We present a study of the decays B0→D0K*0 and B0→D̄0K*0 with K*0→K+π-. The D0 and the D̄0 mesons are reconstructed in the final states f=K+π-, K+π-π0, K+π-π+π-, and their charge conjugates. Using a sample of 465×106 BB̄ pairs collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy e+e- collider at SLAC, we measure the ratio RADS[Γ(B̄0→[f] DK̄*0)+Γ(B0→[f̄]DK*0)]/[Γ(B̄0→ [f̄]DK̄*0)+Γ(B0→[f]DK*0)] for the three final states. We do not find significant evidence for a signal and set the following limits at 95% probability: RADS(Kπ)

Abstract

We present a measurement of the B0→Λ̄pπ- branching fraction performed using the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric e+e- collider. Based on a sample of 467×106 BB̄ pairs we measure B(B0→Λ̄pπ-)=[3.07±0.31(stat)±0.23(syst)] ×10-6. The measured differential spectrum as a function of the dibaryon invariant mass m(Λ̄p) shows a near-threshold enhancement similar to that observed in other baryonic B decays. We study the Λ̄ polarization as a function of Λ̄ energy in the B0 rest frame (EΛ̄*) and compare it with theoretical expectations of fully longitudinally right-polarized Λ̄ at large EΛ̄*. © 2009 The American Physical Society.

Abstract

We report on a Dalitz plot analysis of B-→D+π-π- decays, based on a sample of about 383×106 Υ(4S)→BB̄ decays collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy B Factory at SLAC. We find the total branching fraction of the three-body decay: B(B-→D+π- π-)=(1.08±0.03±0.05)×10-3. We observe the established D2*0 and confirm the existence of D0*0 in their decays to D+π-, where the D2*0 and D0*0 are the 2+ and 0+cū P-wave states, respectively. We measure the masses and widths of D2*0 and D0*0 to be: mD2*0=(2460.4±1.2±1.2±1.9)MeV/c2, ΓD2*0=(41.8±2.5±2.1±2.0)MeV, mD0*0=(2297±8±5±19)MeV/c2, and ΓD0*0= (273±12±17±45)MeV. The stated errors reflect the statistical and systematic uncertainties, and the uncertainty related to the assumed composition of signal events and the theoretical model. © 2009 The American Physical Society.

Abstract

We report the results of a search for Z(4430)- decay to J/ψπ- or ψ(2S)π- in B-,0→J/ψπ-K0,+ and B-,0→ψ(2S)π-K0,+ decays. The data were collected with the BABAR detector at the SLAC PEP-II asymmetric-energy e+e- collider operating at center-of-mass energy 10.58 GeV, and the sample corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 413fb-1. Each Kπ- mass distribution exhibits clear K*(892) and K2*(1430) signals, and the efficiency-corrected spectrum is well described by a superposition of the associated Breit-Wigner intensity distributions, together with an S-wave contribution obtained from the LASS I=1/2 Kπ- scattering amplitude measurements. Each Kπ- angular distribution varies significantly in structure with Kπ- mass, and is represented in terms of low-order Legendre polynomial moments. We find that each J/ψπ- or ψ(2S)π- mass distribution is well described by the reflection of the measured Kπ- mass and angular distribution structures. We see no significant evidence for a Z(4430)- signal for any of the processes investigated, neither in the total J/ψπ- or ψ(2S)π- mass distribution, nor in the corresponding distributions for the regions of Kπ- mass for which observation of the Z(4430)- signal was reported. We obtain branching-fraction upper limits B(B-→Z-K̄0,Z- →J/ψπ-)

Abstract

We have performed a search for the rare leptonic decays B+→+ν(l=e,μ), using data collected at the Υ(4S) resonance by the BABAR detector at the PEP-II storage ring. In a sample of 468×106 BB̄ pairs we find no evidence for a signal and set an upper limit on the branching fractions B(B+→μ+νμ)

Abstract

We present measurements of the semileptonic decays B-→D0τ- ν̄τ, B-→D*0τ-ν̄τ, B̄0→D+τ- ν̄τ, and B̄0→D*+τ-ν̄τ, which are sensitive to non-standard model amplitudes in certain scenarios. The data sample consists of 232×106Υ(4S)→BB̄ decays collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II e+e- collider. We select events with a D or D* meson and a light lepton (=e or μ) recoiling against a fully reconstructed B meson. We perform a fit to the joint distribution of lepton momentum and missing mass squared to distinguish signal B̄→D(*) τ-ν̄τ(τ-→-ν̄ντ) events from the backgrounds, predominantly B̄→D(*)-ν̄. We measure the branching-fraction ratios R(D)B(B̄→Dτ-ν̄τ)/ B(B̄→D-ν̄) and R(D*)B(B̄→D*τ- ν̄τ)/B(B̄→D*-ν̄) and, from a combined fit to B- and B̄0 channels, obtain the results R(D)=(41.6±11.7±5.2) % and R(D*)=(29.7±5.6±1.8)%, where the uncertainties are statistical and systematic. Normalizing to measured B-→D(*)0- ν̄ branching fractions, we obtain B(B̄→Dτ-ν̄τ) =(0.86±0.24±0.11±0.06)% and B(B̄→D*τ- ν̄τ)=(1.62±0.31±0.10±0.05)%, where the additional third uncertainty is from the normalization mode. We also present, for the first time, distributions of the lepton momentum, |p*|, and the squared momentum transfer, q2. © 2009 The American Physical Society.

Abstract

We present updated measurements of time-dependent CP asymmetries in fully reconstructed neutral B decays containing a charmonium meson. The measurements reported here use a data sample of (465±5)×106 Υ(4S) →BB̄ decays collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric energy e+e- storage rings operating at the SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory. The time-dependent CP asymmetry parameters measured from JψKS0, JψKL0, ψ(2S)KS0, ηcKS0, χc1KS0, and J/ψK*(892)0 decays are: Cf=0.024±0.020(stat)±0.016(syst) and -ηfSf=0. 687±0.028(stat)±0.012(syst). © 2009 The American Physical Society.

Abstract

We present constraints on the angle γ of the unitarity triangle with a Dalitz analysis of neutral D decays to KSπ+π- from the processes B0→D̄0K*0 (B̄0→D0K̄*0) and B0→D0K*0 (B̄0→D̄0K̄*0) with K*0→K+π- (K̄*0→K-π+). Using a sample of 371×106 BB̄ pairs collected with the BABAR detector at PEP-II, we constrain the angle γ as a function of rS, the magnitude of the average ratio between b→u and b→c amplitudes. © 2009 The American Physical Society.

Abstract

We present a Dalitz plot analysis of charmless B± decays to the final state π±π±π using a sample of (465±5) ×106 BB̄ pairs collected by the BABAR experiment at s=10.58GeV. We measure the branching fractions B(B±→π±π±π)= (15.2±0.6±1.2±0.4)×10-6, B(B±→ρ0(770) π±)=(8.1±0.7±1.2-1.1+0.4)×10-6, B(B±→f2(1270)π±)=(1.57±0.42±0.16-0.19+0.53) ×10-6, and B(B±→π±π±πnonresonant)=(5. 3±0.7±0.6-0.5+1.1)×10-6, where the uncertainties are statistical, systematic, and model-dependent, respectively. Measurements of branching fractions for the modes B±→ρ0(1450)π± and B±→f0(1370)π± are also presented. We observe no significant direct CP asymmetries for the above modes, and there is no evidence for the decays B±→f0(980)π±, B±→χc0π ±, or B±→χc2π±. © 2009 The American Physical Society.

Abstract

We present measurements of B meson decays to the final states ωK*, ωρ, and ωf0, where K* indicates a spin 0, 1, or 2 strange meson. The data sample corresponds to 465×106 BB̄ pairs collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II e+e- collider at SLAC. B meson decays involving vector-scalar, vector-vector, and vector-tensor final states are analyzed; the latter two shed new light on the polarization of these final states. We measure the branching fractions for nine of these decays; five are observed for the first time. For most decays we also measure the charge asymmetry and, where relevant, the longitudinal polarization fL. © 2009 The American Physical Society.

Abstract

We search for charmless decays of charged B mesons to the three-body final state KS0KS0π+. Using a data sample of 423.7fb-1 collected at the Υ(4S) resonance with the BABAR detector, corresponding to (465.1± 5.1)×106 BB̄ pairs, we find no significant signal and determine a 90% confidence level upper limit on the branching fraction of 5.1×10-7. © 2009 The American Physical Society.

Abstract

We present a study of the charmless semileptonic B-meson decays B+→ωl+ν and B+→ηl+ν. The analysis is based on 3.83×108 BB̄ pairs recorded at the Υ(4S) resonance with the BABAR detector. The ω mesons are reconstructed in the channel ω→π+π-π0 and the η mesons in the channels η→π+π-π0 and η→γγ. We measure the branching fractions B(B+→ωl+ν)=(1.14±0.16stat±0. 08syst)×10-4 and B(B+→ηl+ν)=(0.31±0.06stat±0. 08syst)×10-4. © 2009 The American Physical Society.

Abstract

We present measurements of the branching fraction and fraction of longitudinal polarization for the decay B+→K̄*0K*+ with a sample of (467±5)×106 BB̄ pairs collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy e+e- collider at the SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory. We obtain the branching fraction B(B+→K̄ *0K*+)=(1.2±0.5±0.1)×10-6 with a significance of 3.7 standard deviations including systematic uncertainties. We measure the fraction of longitudinal polarization fL=0.75-0.26+0.16±0.03. The first error quoted is statistical and the second is systematic. © 2009 The American Physical Society.

Abstract

We present measurements of the time-dependent CP-violation parameters S and C in the decays B0→ÏKS0, B0→ωK0, reconstructed as ωKS0 and ωKL0, and B0→Ï€0KS0. The data sample corresponds to the full BABAR dataset of 467Ö106 BB- pairs produced at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy e+e- collider at the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center. The results are SÏKS0=0.55-0.29+0.26±0.02, CÏKS0=-0.52-0.20+0.22±0.03, SωK0=0.57±0. 08±0.02, CωK0=-0.08±0.06±0.02, SÏ€0KS0=0.55±0.20±0.03, and CÏ€0KS0=0.13±0.13±0.03, where the first errors are statistical and the second systematic. These results are consistent with our previous measurements and the world average of sina 2 measured in B0→J/ KS0. © 2009 The American Physical Society.

We use a sample of 384×106 BB̄ events collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II e+e- collider to study angular distributions in the rare decays B→K* + -, where + - is either e+e- or μ+μ-. For low dilepton invariant masses, m 3.2GeV/c2, we measure AFB=0.76-0.32+0.52±0.07 and FL=0.71-0.22+0.20±0.04. © 2009 The American Physical Society.

Abstract

A Dalitz plot analysis of approximately 13000 Ds+ decays to π+π-π+ has been performed. The analysis uses a 384 fb-1 data sample recorded by the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy e+e- storage ring running at center of mass energies near 10.6 GeV. Amplitudes and phases of the intermediate resonances which contribute to this final state are measured. A high precision measurement of the ratio of branching fractions is performed: B(Ds+→π+π-π+)/B(Ds+→K+K-π+)=0.199±0.004±0. 009. Using a model-independent partial wave analysis, the amplitude and phase of the S wave have been measured. © 2009 The American Physical Society.

Abstract

Semileptonic B̄ decays to DXν̄ (=e or μ) are selected by reconstructing D0 and D+ combinations from a sample of 230×106 Υ(4S)→BB̄ decays recorded with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II e+e- collider at SLAC. A global fit to these samples in a three-dimensional space of kinematic variables is used to determine the branching fractions B(B-→D0ν̄)=(2.34±0.03±0.13)% and B(B-→D *0ν̄)=(5.40±0.02±0.21)% where the errors are statistical and systematic, respectively. The fit also determines form-factor parameters in a parametrization based on heavy quark effective theory, resulting in ρD2=1.20±0.04±0.07 for B̄→Dν̄ and ρD*2=1.22±0.02±0.07 for B̄→D*ν̄. These values are used to obtain the product of the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix element |Vcb| times the form factor at the zero recoil point for both B̄→Dν̄ decays, G(1)|Vcb|=(43.1±0.8±2.3) ×10-3, and for B̄→D*ν̄ decays, F(1)|Vcb|=(35.9±0.2±1.2)×10-3. © 2009 The American Physical Society.

Abstract

We present measurements of the CP-violation parameters S and C for the radiative decay B0→ηKS0γ; for B→ηKγ we also measure the branching fractions and for B+→ηK+γ the time-integrated charge asymmetry Ach. The data, collected with the BABAR detector at the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center, represent 465×106 BB̄ pairs produced in e+e- annihilation. The results are S=-0.18-0.46+0.49±0.12, C=-0.32-0.39+0.40±0.07, B(B0→ηK0γ)=(7.1-2.0+2.1±0.4)×10-6, B(B+→ηK+γ)=(7.7±1.0±0.4)×10-6, and Ach=(-9.0-9.8+10.4±1.4)×10-2. Abstract

A search for the lepton flavor violating decays τ-→l-KS0 (l=e or μ) has been performed using a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 469fb-1, collected with the BABAR detector at the SLAC PEP-II e+e- asymmetric energy collider. No statistically significant signal has been observed in either channel and the estimated upper limits on branching fractions are B(τ-→e-KS0)

Abstract

We report a measurement of the branching fractions of B̄→D* *ℓ-ν̄ℓ decays based on 417fb-1 of data collected at the Υ(4S) resonance with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II e+e- storage rings. Events are selected by fully reconstructing one of the B mesons in a hadronic decay mode. A fit to the invariant mass differences m(D(*)π)- m(D(*)) is performed to extract the signal yields of the different D** states. We observe the B̄→D**ℓ- ν̄ℓ decay modes corresponding to the four D** states predicted by heavy quark symmetry with a significance greater than 5 standard deviations including systematic uncertainties. © 2008 The American Physical Society.

Abstract

We present a study of hadronic transitions between Υ(mS) (m=4, 3, 2) and Υ(nS) (n=2, 1) resonances based on 347.5fb-1 of data taken with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II storage rings. We report the first observation of Υ(4S)→ηΥ(1S) decay with a branching fraction B(Υ(4S)→ηΥ(1S))=(1.96±0.06stat±0.09syst) ×10-4 and measure the ratio of partial widths Γ(Υ(4S) →ηΥ(1S))/Γ(Υ(4S)→π+π-Υ(1S))=2. 41±0.40stat±0.12syst. We set 90% CL upper limits on the ratios Γ(Υ(2S)→ηΥ(1S))/Γ(Υ(2S)→π+π- Υ(1S))

Abstract

We present branching fraction measurements for the radiative decays B+→ρ+γ, B0→ρ0γ, and B0→ωγ. The analysis is based on a data sample of 465×106 BB̄ events collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy B Factory located at the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center. We find B(B+→ρ+γ)=(1.20-0. 37+0.42±0.20)×10-6, B(B0→ρ0γ)=(0.97-0.22+0. 24±0.06)×10-6, and a 90% C.L. upper limit B(B0→ωγ)

Abstract

We present an investigation of the decays B̄0→Λc+p̄ and B-→Λc+p̄π- based on 383×106 Υ(4S) →BB̄ decays recorded with the BABAR detector. We measure the branching fractions of these decays; their ratio is B(B-→Λc+p̄π-)/ B(B̄0→Λc+p̄)=15.4±1.8±0.3. The B-→Λc+p̄π- process exhibits an enhancement at the Λc+p̄ threshold and is a laboratory for searches for excited charm baryon states. We observe the resonant decays B-→Σc(2455)0p̄ and B-→Σc(2800)0p̄ but see no evidence for B-→Σc(2520) 0p̄. This is the first observation of the decay B-→Σc(2800) 0p̄; however, the mass of the observed excited Σc0 state is (2846±8±10)MeV/c2, which is somewhat inconsistent with previous measurements. Finally, we examine the angular distribution of the B-→Σc(2455)0p̄ decays and measure the spin of the Σc(2455)0 baryon to be 1/2, as predicted by the quark model. © 2008 The American Physical Society.

Abstract

We perform a time-dependent and time-integrated angular analysis of the decays B0→φK*(892)0, φK2*(1430)0, and φ(Kπ)0*0 with the final sample of about 465×106 BB̄ pairs recorded with the BABAR detector. Twenty-four parameters are investigated, including the branching fractions, CP-violation parameters, and parameters sensitive to final-state interactions. We use the dependence on the Kπ invariant mass of the interference between the scalar and vector or tensor components to resolve discrete ambiguities of the strong and weak phases. We use the time evolution of the B→φKS0π0 channel to extract the CP-violation phase difference Δ 00=0.28±0.42±0.04 between the B and B̄ decay amplitudes. When the B→φK±π channel is included, the fractions of longitudinal polarization fL of the vector-vector and vector-tensor decay modes are measured to be 0.494±0.034±0.013 and 0.901-0.058+0.046±0.037, respectively. This polarization pattern requires the presence of a positive-helicity amplitude in the vector-vector decay from a currently unknown source. © 2008 The American Physical Society.

Abstract

We report a search for the decays B -→K+π-π- and B -→K-K-π+, which are highly suppressed in the standard model. Using a sample of (467±5)×106 BB̄ pairs collected with the BABAR detector, we do not see any evidence of these decays and determine 90% confidence level upper limits of B(B -→K+π-π-)

Abstract

We report a study of B±→D*K± decays with D* decaying to Dπ0 or Dγ, using 383×106 BB̄ pairs collected at the Υ(4S) resonance with the BABAR detector at the SLAC PEP-II B Factory. The D meson decays under study include a non-CP mode (K±π), CP-even modes (K±K,π±π), and CP-odd modes (KS0π0,KS0,KS0ω). We measure ratios (RCP±*) of branching fractions of decays to CP eigenmode states and to flavor-specific states as well as CP asymmetries (ACP±*). These measurements are sensitive to the unitarity triangle angle γ. We obtain ACP+*=-0.11±0.09±0.01, RCP+*=1.31±0.13±0.04, and ACP-*=0.06±0. 10±0.02, RCP-*=1.10±0.12±0.04, where the first error is statistical and the second error is systematic. Translating our results into an alternative parametrization, widely used for related measurements, we obtain x+*=0.11±0.06±0.02 and x-*=0.00±0.06±0. 02. No significant CP-violating charge asymmetry is found in either the flavor-specific mode D→K±π or in B±→D *π± decays. © 2008 The American Physical Society.

Abstract

We present the observation of the decay B0→χc0K*0 as well as evidence of B+→χc0K*+, with an 8.9 and a 3.6 standard deviation significance, respectively, using a data sample of 454×106 Υ(4S)→BB̄ decays collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II B meson factory located at the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center (SLAC). The measured branching fractions are B(B0→χc0K*0)=(1.7±0. 3±0.2)×10-4 and B(B+→χc0K*+)=(1.4±0. 5±0.2)×10-4, where the first quoted errors are statistical and the second are systematic. We obtain a branching fraction upper limit of B(B+→χc0K*+)

Abstract

We present a search for the decays B→K*νν̄ using 454×106BB̄ pairs collected at the Υ(4S) resonance with the BABAR detector at the SLAC PEP-II B-Factory. We first select an event sample where one B is reconstructed in a semileptonic or hadronic mode with one charmed meson. The remaining particles in the event are then examined to search for a B→K*νν̄ decay. The charged K* is reconstructed as K*+→KS0π+ or K*+→K+π0; the neutral K* is identified in K*0→K+π- mode. We establish upper limits at 90% confidence level of B(B+→K*+νν̄)

Abstract

We study B0→ρ0ρ0 decays in a sample of 465×106 Υ(4S)→BB̄ events collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy e+e- collider located at the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center (SLAC). We measure the branching fraction B=(0.92±0.32±0. 14)×10-6 and longitudinal polarization fraction fL=0.75-0.14+0. 11±0.05, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic. The evidence for the B0→ρ0ρ0 signal has a significance of 3.1 standard deviations, including systematic uncertainties. We investigate the proper-time dependence of the longitudinal component in the decay and measure the CP-violating coefficients SL00=(0.3±0.7±0.2) and CL00=(0.2±0.8±0.3). We study the implication of these results for the unitarity triangle angle α. © 2008 The American Physical Society.

We measure the time-dependent CP asymmetry in B0→KS0π0γ decays for two regions of KS0-π0 invariant mass, m(KS0π0), using the final BABAR data set of 467×106 BB̄ pairs collected at the PEP-II e+e- collider at SLAC. Abstract

We present a measurement of the branching fractions for the Cabibbo-favored radiative decay D0→K̄*0γ and the Cabibbo-suppressed radiative decay D0→ γ. These measurements are based on a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 387.1fb-1 and recorded with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II e+e- asymmetric-energy collider operating at center-of-mass energies 10.58 and 10.54 GeV. We measure the branching fractions relative to the well-studied decay D0→K-π+ and find B(D0→K̄ *0γ)/B(D0→K-π+)=(8.43±0.51±0.70)×10-3 and B(D0→ γ)/B(D0→K-π+)=(7.15±0.78±0.69)×10- 4, where the first error is statistical and the second is systematic. This is the first observation of the decay mode D0→K̄*0γ. © 2008 The American Physical Society.
