An experiment addressing electron capture (EC) decay of hydrogen-like Pm60+142 ions has been conducted at the experimental storage ring (ESR) at GSI. The decay appears to be purely exponential and no modulations were observed. Decay times for about 9000 individual EC decays have been measured by applying the single-ion decay spectroscopy method. Both visually and automatically analysed data can be described by a single exponential decay with decay constants of 0.0126(7)s−1 for automatic analysis and 0.0141(7)s−1 for manual analysis. If a modulation superimposed on the exponential decay curve is assumed, the best fit gives a modulation amplitude of merely 0.019(15), which is compatible with zero and by 4.9 standard deviations smaller than in the original observation which had an amplitude of 0.23(4). Out of programme (OOP) opportunities are to be encouraged. This article gives an insightful view of the Sheffield Clinical Research Fellowship Programme. Unique trainee feedback is provided. The take home message is clear - trainees should grab OOP experiences with both hands! For consultants the logistics described are potentially transferrable to their own regions.

Background: Recent data imply young patients (age ≤50 years) undergoing small-bowel (SB) capsule endoscopy (CE) for iron deficiency anaemia (IDA) show higher diagnostic yield (DY) for sinister pathology. We aimed to investigate DY of CE in a large cohort of young IDA patients, and evaluate factors predicting significant SB pathology. Materials and methods: This was a retrospective, multicentre study (2010–2015) in consecutive, young patients (≤50 years) from 18 centres/12 countries, with negative bidirectional gastrointestinal (GI) endoscopy undergoing SBCE for IDA. Exclusion criteria: previous/ongoing obscure-overt GI bleeding; age 50 years; comorbidities associated with IDA. Data retrieved: SBCE indications; prior investigations; medications; SBCE findings; final diagnosis. Clinical and laboratory data were analysed by multivariate logistic regression. Results: Data on 389 young IDA patients were retrieved. In total, 169 (43.4%) were excluded due to incomplete clinical data; data from 220 (122F/98M; mean age 40.5 ± 8.6 years) patients were analysed. Some 71 patients had at least one clinically significant SBCE finding (DY: 32.3%). They were divided into two groups: neoplastic pathology (10/220; 4.5%), and non-neoplastic but clinically significant pathology (61/220; 27.7%). The most common significant but non-neoplastic pathologies were angioectasias (22/61) and Crohn’s disease (15/61). On multivariate analysis, weight loss and lower mean corpuscular volume(MCV) were associated with significant SB pathology (OR: 3.87; 95%CI: 1.3–11.3; p = 0.01; and OR: 0.96; 95%CI: 0.92–0.99; p = 0.03; respectively). Our model also demonstrates association between use of antiplatelets and significant SB pathology, although due to the small number of patients, definitive conclusions cannot be drawn. Conclusion: In IDA patients ≤50 years with negative bidirectional GI endoscopy, overall DY of SBCE for clinically significant findings was 32.3%. Some 5% of our cohort was diagnosed with SB neoplasia; lower MCV or weight loss were associated with higher DY for SB pathology. © 2017, © Author(s) 2017.

Background and study aims: Delayed gastric emptying is a significant factor in incomplete small bowel capsule examinations. Gastric transit could be hastened by external magnetic control of the capsule. We studied the feasibility of this approach to improve capsule endoscopy completion rates.\ud \ud Patients and methods: Prospective, single-center, randomized controlled trial involving 122 patients attending for small bowel capsule endoscopy using MiroCam Navi. Patients were randomized to either the control group (mobilisation for 30 minutes after capsule ingestion, followed by intramuscular metoclopramide 10 mg if the capsule failed to enter the small bowel) or the intervention group (1000 mL of water prior to capsule ingestion, followed by positional change and magnetic steering). Outcome measures were capsule endoscopy completion rate, gastric clarity and distention, relationship of body habitus to capsule endoscopy completion rate (CECR), and patient comfort scores.\ud \ud Results: 122 patients were recruited (61 each to the control and intervention groups: mean age 49 years [range 21 – 85], 61 females). There was no significant difference in CECR between the two groups (P = 0.39). Time to first pyloric image was significantly shorter in the intervention group (P = 0.03) but there was no difference in gastric transit times (P = 0.12), suggesting that magnetic control hastens capsular transit to the gastric antrum but does not influence duodenal passage. 29th European Photovoltaic Solar Energy Conference and Exhibition; 542-547, A unique high-quality casting technology of heterogeneous nucleation has been developed by Hareon Solar. Due to having crystalline grains with characteristics of small, uniform size and vertical shape, mc-Si ingots grown by Hareon’s casting technology have approximately one-tenth the dislocation density of conventional mc-Si ingots, which resulted in more uniform and higher bulk lifetime. More importantly, the new technology is cost-competitive with conventional mc-Si casting, and has been industrialized in Hareon’s production lines. Production data show that bulk improvement on wafer achieves 0.3-0.4% absolute efficiency gain in solar cells, in which Voc, Isc and FF are all improved. Characterization and simulations indicated that all the improvements are from high-quality silicon wafer: Voc and Isc increased due to bulk improvement, while FF enhanced because of depletion region improvement. LID (light induced degradation) has been monitored in production for high-quality mc-Si solar cells, and the data verify LID performance is also slightly better on high-quality cells with 0.9% rel. LID compared to conventional cells with 1.0% rel. LID, which indicates that Hareon’s heterogeneous-nucleation casting technology has great LIDresist and performance.

28th European Photovoltaic Solar Energy Conference and Exhibition; 1152-1155, Laser fired contacts (LFCs) are a promising alternative to the current contact formation techniques for the fabrication of back contact solar cells. We developed a novel laser process to laser dope and create laser fired silver contacts in a single step. This process was used to create both emitter and base contacts on n-type silicon substrates. The LFC process was used to fabricate interdigitated back-contact silicon solar cells with efficiencies above 18%. While laser fired aluminum contacts have been reported in the past, in this report we describe a singlestep laser process to dope the underlying silicon and create a silver contact at the same time. Conventional industrial processes were used for texture, emitter diffusion and passivation. Dopant and metal grids for base and emitter were printed using high-throughput screen-printers. The best cell showed 632mV Voc, 39.7 mA/cm2 Jsc, and fill-factor of 0.72. We also developed a novel module encapsulation process combining the low-cost advantages of today’s standard module assembly process with the MMA process for IBC cells.

28th European Photovoltaic Solar Energy Conference and Exhibition; 766-769, Rear dielectric film deposition and opening as key processes for PERC solar cells are developed and characterized in this paper. As to rear dielectric, SiOx and Al2O3 passivation films and their effects on PERC cell performance were studied. Due to >2E11 cm-2 positive fixed charge in SiOx film, inversion layer is formed on PERC rear side, so that pseudo-FF of cells decreases because of large J02. Additionally, it leads to bad low-light performance because the rear surface recombination velocity (RSRV) increases with the injection level decrease under inversion status. On the contrary, Al2O3 film with >2E12 cm-2 negative fixed charge shows totally different properties and excellent passivation on PERC cells. Regard to dielectric opening, etching paste is a promising candidate that can achieve same performance as laser ablation by optimizing opening process of etching paste.. PERC cells with deposited Al2O3/SiNx stack film opened by etching paste achieved 19.8% batch average efficiency. Combined with selective emitter technology, the average efficiency increased to 20.0%. Additionally, the low light output and temperature coefficient of PERC cells were also improved compared to conventional Al-BSF cells. PERC modules made by 60 cells and 72 cells show power output of 285W and 325W respectively.
