Abstract

We present the first on-sky results of a four-telescope integrated optics discrete beam combiner (DBC) tested at the 4.2 m William Herschel Telescope. The device consists of a four-input pupil remapper followed by a DBC and a 23-output reformatter. The whole device was written monolithically in a single alumino-borosilicate substrate using ultrafast laser inscription. The device was operated at astronomical H-band (1.6 mu m), and a deformable mirror along with a microlens array was used to inject stellar photons into the device. We report the measured visibility amplitudes and closure phases obtained on Vega and Altair that are retrieved using the calibrated transfer matrix of the device. While the coherence function can be reconstructed, the on-sky results show significant dispersion from the expected values. Based on the analysis of comparable simulations, we find that such dispersion is largely caused by the limited signal-to-noise ratio of our observations. This constitutes a first step toward an improved validation of the DBC as a possible beam combination scheme for long-baseline interferometry. About 33% of TBM patients die due to very late diagnosis of the disease. Conventional diagnostic methods based on signs and symptoms, cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) smear microscopy or liquid culture suffer from either poor sensitivity or long turnaround time (up to 8 weeks). Therefore, in order to manage the disease efficiently, there is an urgent and unmet need for a rapid and reliable diagnostic test. Methods: In the current study, to address the diagnostic challenge of TBM, a highly rapid and sensitive structural switching electrochemical aptasensor was developed by combining the electrochemical property of methylene blue (MB) with the molecular recognition ability of a ssDNA aptamer. Abstract

We show the results of simulation and experimental study of a 4-telescope zig-zag discrete beam combiner (DBC) for long-baseline stellar interferometry working at the astronomical L band (3 - 4 mu m) under the influence of a narrow bandwidth light source. Following Saviauk et al. (2013), we used a quasi-monochromatic visibility-to-pixel matrix (V2PM) for retrieving the complex coherence functions from simulated and experimentally measured power at the output of the device. Simulation and coefficient of determination (R-2) measurements show that we are able to retrieve the visibility amplitudes with >95 % accuracy of our chromatic model source up to a bandwidth of 100 nm centred at 3.5 mu m. We characterized a DBC manufactured by 3D ultra-fast laser inscription (ULI) written on gallium lanthanum sulphate (GLS). Experimental results showed retrieval of visibility amplitude with an accuracy of 80-90 % at 69 nm bandwidth, validating our simulation. The standard deviation of experimental phase residuals are between 0.1-0.4 rad, which shows that the retrieval procedure is sufficient to get good quality images, where phase perturbations of less than 1 rad are expected under good seeing conditions for astronomical applications. 185. Formulation and Evaluation of Novel Formulation for Diabetes Induced Hypertension using Modified Innate Superdisintegrant

Abstract

Objectives: Diabetes is a chronic disease and is a group of metabolic disorders characterized by high levels of sugar in blood (hyperglycemia). Hypertension is a major modifiable risk factor for cardiovascular morbidity and mortality in patients with diabetes. The objective of this research is to formulate Fast dissolving tablets of Pioglitazone and Cilnidipine for the effective treatment of diabetes induced hypertension. Methods: Six formulations were prepared by direct compression technique by using Opuntia ficus-indica as an innate superdisintegrant. Result and Discussion: All the formulations were subjected for precomprression, post compression parameters and shows all the data within the specific limits. F5 formulation with the mixture of polymers viz. Opuntia ficus indica, SSG, croscarmellose sodium, magnesium stearate, DiCOM showed comparatively fast disintegration and best release of drug than that of all other formulation. The tablets of F5 formulation disintegrated within 18.53 seconds can provide fast relief in the body. The in-vitro dissolution results revealed that the drug release of F5 formulation tablets was more than 90% for Pioglitazone and near to 70% for Cilnidipine within 30 minutes. Stability studies were performed on F5 formulation tablets showed no significant changes in color, disintegration time and in-vitro dissolution which showed that appearance of tablets was having no effect. Conclusion: Fast dissolving tablets of Pioglitazone and Cilnidipine can be successfully prepared using direct compression technique and it will enhance the drug dissolution, which will further increase absorption and bioavailability of both drugs. Abstract

Aptamers were first described in 1990 and since then many aptamers have been reported in the literature for numerous applications in both diagnostics and therapeutics. However, as with most fields, missing or unclear information presented in the publication makes it difficult to replicate some of the work described in the literature. To increase the reproducibility of the data and facilitate academic laboratories and industrial companies to develop reliable aptamer work, essential guidelines should be proposed and followed in any aptamer publication, especially in those that highlight de novo aptamer sequences. Here, we provide suggestions for authors, reviewers, and editors to follow when performing and reporting their aptamer work to ensure that we meet the minimum standards for publication of future aptamer sequences. Abstract

The present study was planned to study the level of cognitive functioning among 240 elderly people, (120 elderly residing in old age homes and 120 elderly residing with family setup) an equal number of male and female respondents from Jaipur and Udaipur cities of Rajasthan. The Mini-Mental Status Examination Scale (MMSE) was used to assess the level of cognitive functioning. The test was administered individually. It was found that Living Status (Old age homes and Family Setup) has a significant effect on cognitive functioning. Sex (Male and Female) difference also has a significant effect on cognitive functioning. The interaction between Sex and Living Status has a significant effect on cognitive functioning.
