A novel algorithm for real-time modal identification in linear vibrating systems with complex modes is introduced, utilizing a combination of first order eigen-perturbation and second order separation techniques. In practical settings, structures with complex modes are frequently encountered and their presence often poses a challenge in accurately estimating the source signal in real-time. The proposed methodology addresses this issue by incorporating the right angle phase shift of the response in the sensor output and updating the second order statistics of the complex response through first order eigen-perturbation. Empirical evidence of the efficacy of the technique is demonstrated through numerical case studies and validation using various numerically modeled systems, as well as a standard ASCE-SHM benchmark problem with complex modes, highlighting the capability of the proposed method to achieve precise real-time modal property identification and online source separation with a minimal number of initially required batch data., Comment: 18 pages, journal article

Counterfactual explanations for machine learning models are used to find minimal interventions to the feature values such that the model changes the prediction to a different output or a target output. A valid counterfactual explanation should have likely feature values. Here, we address the challenge of generating counterfactual explanations that lie in the same data distribution as that of the training data and more importantly, they belong to the target class distribution. This requirement has been addressed through the incorporation of auto-encoder reconstruction loss in the counterfactual search process. Connecting the output behavior of the classifier to the latent space of the auto-encoder has further improved the speed of the counterfactual search process and the interpretability of the resulting counterfactual explanations. Continuing this line of research, we show further improvement in the interpretability of counterfactual explanations when the auto-encoder is trained in a semi-supervised fashion with class tagged input data. We consider the online hitting set problem for the range space $\Sigma=(\cal X,\cal R)$, where the point set $\cal X$ is known beforehand, but the set $\cal R$ of geometric objects is not known in advance. Here, objects from $\cal R$ arrive one by one. The objective of the problem is to maintain a hitting set of the minimum cardinality by taking irrevocable decisions. In this paper, we consider the problem when objects are unit balls or unit hypercubes in $\mathbb{R}^d$, and the points from $\mathbb{Z}^d$ are used for hitting them. First, we address the case when objects are unit intervals in $\mathbb{R}$ and present an optimal deterministic algorithm with a competitive ratio of~$2$. Then, we consider the case when objects are unit balls. For hitting unit balls in $\mathbb{R}^2$ and $\mathbb{R}^3$, we present $4$ and $14$-competitive deterministic algorithms, respectively. On the other hand, for hitting unit balls in $\mathbb{R}^d$, we propose an $O(d^4)$-competitive deterministic algorithm, and we demonstrate that}, for $d<4$, the competitive ratio of any deterministic algorithm is at least $d+1$. In the end, we explore the case where objects are unit hypercubes. For hitting unit hypercubes in $\mathbb{R}^2$ and $\mathbb{R}^3$, we obtain $4$ and $8$-competitive deterministic algorithms, respectively. For hitting unit hypercubes in $\mathbb{R}^d$ ($d\geq 3$), we present an $O(d^2)$-competitive randomized algorithm. The rotational line survey by ALMA (Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array) recently revealed the presence of i-C3H7CN (i-PrCN) and n-C3H7CN (n-PrCN) in 3-mm atmospheric window between 84 to 111 GHz towards the hot core region Sagittarius B2(N) (Sgr B2(N)). This was the first interstellar detection of a linear straight chain molecule. In this light, we report the rotational spectra of C5H12 isomeric group in the same frequency range. We performed quantum chemical calculations for spectroscopic parameters. The pure rotational spectrum of the species has been simulated using the PGOPHER program. The rotational spectrum of this molecule makes it a good candidate for future astronomical detections since the radio lines can be calculated to very high accuracy in mm/sub-mm wave region.

Solar photovoltaic (PV) technology has merged as an efficient and versatile method for converting the Sun's vast energy into electricity. Innovation in developing new materials and solar cell architectures is required to ensure lightweight, portable, and flexible miniaturized electronic devices operate for long periods with reduced battery demand. Recent advances in biomedical implantable and wearable devices have coincided with a growing interest in efficient energy-harvesting solutions. Such devices primarily rely on rechargeable batteries to satisfy their energy needs. Moreover, Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) techniques are touted as game changers in energy harvesting, especially in solar energy materials. In this article, we systematically review a range of ML techniques for optimizing the performance of low-cost solar cells for miniaturized electronic devices. Our systematic review reveals that these ML techniques can expedite the discovery of new solar cell materials and architectures. In particular, this review covers a broad range of ML techniques targeted at producing low-cost solar cells. Moreover, we present a new method of classifying the literature according to data synthesis, ML algorithms, optimization, and fabrication process. In addition, our review reveals that the Gaussian Process Regression (GPR) ML technique with Bayesian Optimization (BO) enables the design of the most promising low-solar cell architecture. Therefore, our review is a critical evaluation of existing ML techniques and is presented to guide researchers in discovering the next generation of low-cost solar cells using ML techniques.

The automotive and railway industries are rapidly transforming with a strong drive towards automation and digitalization, with the goal of increased convenience, safety, efficiency, and sustainability. Since assisted and fully automated automotive and train transport services increasingly rely on vehicle-to-everything communications, and high-accuracy real-time positioning, it is necessary to continuously maintain high-accuracy localization, even in occlusion scenes such as tunnels, urban canyons, or areas covered by dense foliage. In this paper, we review the 5G positioning framework of the 3rd Generation Partnership Project in terms of methods and architecture and propose enhancements to meet the stringent requirements imposed by the transport industry. In particular, we highlight the benefit of fusing cellular and sensor measurements and discuss required architecture and protocol support for achieving this at the network side. We also propose a positioning framework to fuse cellular network measurements with measurements by onboard sensors.
