Multicellularity was a watershed development in evolution. However, it also meant that individual cells could escape regulatory mechanisms that restrict proliferation at a severe cost to the organism: cancer. From the standpoint of cellular organization, evolutionary complexity scales to organize different molecules within the intracellular milieu. The recent realization that many biomolecules can “phase-separate” into membraneless organelles, reorganizing cellular biochemistry in space and time, has led to an explosion of research activity in this area. In this review, we explore mechanistic connections between phase separation and cancer-associated processes and emerging examples of how these become deranged in malignancy. Significance: One of the fundamental functions of phase separation is to rapidly and dynamically respond to environmental perturbations. Importantly, these changes often lead to alterations in cancer-relevant pathways and processes. This review covers recent advances in the field, including emerging principles and mechanisms of phase separation in cancer.

- Abstract
Genetic studies of blood pressure (BP) to date have mainly analyzed common variants (minor allele frequency > 0.05). In a meta-analysis of up to similar to 1.3 million participants, we discovered 106 new BP-associated genomic regions and 87 rare (minor allele frequency ≤ 0.01) variant BP associations (P < 5 x 10(⁻⁸)), of which 32 were in new BP-associated loci and 55 were independent BP-associated single-nucleotide variants within known BP-associated regions. Average effects of rare variants (44% coding) were similar to 8 times larger than common variant effects and indicate potential candidate causal genes at new and known loci (for example, GATA5 and PLCB3). BP-associated variants (including rare and common) were enriched in regions of active chromatin in fetal tissues, potentially linking fetal development with BP regulation in later life. Multivariable Mendelian randomization suggested possible inverse effects of elevated systolic and diastolic BP on large artery stroke. Our study demonstrates the utility of rare-variant analyses for identifying candidate genes and the results highlight potential therapeutic targets., Correction A Publisher Correction to this article was published on 16 March 2021.

The present research deals with optimizing thrust force developed during drilling of Al6063 with Silicon Carbide composites. Al-SiC MMCs are fabricated by employing the stir casting method, and also the composite strength is measured by thrust force using the drilling process. Initially, composites were prepared by mixing Al6063 with SiC (3, 6, and 9 wt%) with different proportions. Enhance the machining characteristics of the composite by conducting the experiments with three cutting parameters in drilling operation like drill diameter, feed rate, and spindle speed to calculate thrust force on Al-SiC Composite. Box – Behnken Design and analysis of variance (ANOVA) is used to make the best possible use of the cutting process. The result shows that drilling diameter influences the thrust force on Al-SiC composites compared to feed rate and spindle speed. In this research, drilling parameters were chosen and studied; drill diameter, feed rate, spindle speed, and thrust force output response. The coefficient of correlation 0.9885 indicated that the model developed was adequate. This proves that the model was vital at 95% at probability and so, and the models were often well utilized in Nano TiO

This paper presents a disturbance observer-based control (DOBC) for stand-alone inverters to produce sinusoidal voltages. The controller is specifically designed to regulate the output voltage of the inverter to follow a desired sinusoidal voltage reference. The disturbance observer is employed to ensure accurate tracking of the voltage reference by compensating for model uncertainties and unknown inputs. The combination of a linearizing feedback control (LFC) with a disturbance observer (DO) makes it possible to perform dual functions by providing improved disturbance rejection during transients and attaining zero steady-state error thanks to the integral action property of the disturbance observer. The key feature of the proposed controller is that it is designed in the dq reference frame, but it is implemented in stationary αβ coordinates. The performance of the above controller during load variations is verified via simulation tests. The test results have demonstrated excellent disturbance attenuation to achieve good transient response during balanced and unbalanced load variations.

Objective Standardization adjusts for variations in population age-distribution and provides a summary measure for the comparison of populations and comparisons of time-trends in population. Globally, several standard population were used by many countries for comparison of rates. Segi World Standard Population (WSP) is suitable for international comparison. However, national standard population would be more appropriate for Intra-national comparison as the standard should be similar to the population of interest. This study aimed to develop Indian Standard Population (ISP) for estimating Age Adjusted Rate (AAR) and, to understand the outcome on the cancer incidence rate using ISP in Population Based Cancer Registries (PBCRs). Methods The Indian Standard Population was estimated based on the average age structure of three Censuses (1991,2001 and 2011). Age Adjusted Rate has been estimated using two standard populations of WSP and ISP for magnitude of change and comparison between 15 PBCRs in India. Results The implementation of ISP led to overall 20% reduction in AAR for all sites of cancers in both sexes and minor relative changes in the ranking among PBCRs. Time trends in cancer incidence rate showed same temporal pattern curve using both ISP and WSP, AARs. Conclusion The ISP would be more representative of the age-structure of Indian registries population and this would give more realistic comparison across the different PBCRs in India.

Education - Abstract
Since the mid-1970s, researchers have provided theoretical frameworks that continue to be used today to explain persistence and attrition of nontraditional undergraduate students in higher education. Previous frameworks emphasized specific skills nontraditional undergraduate students need upon admission into an online program to support their persistence. Recent research has confirmed the importance of these skills to student persistence in an online program. While these frameworks remain relevant, none reflect advancements and developments that have shaped today’s online learning environment. The characteristics of nontraditional undergraduate online students and programs have evolved over the years. Hence, this article introduces a modified Contemporary Persistence Model, predicated on existing frameworks, and informed by the results of recent research into nontraditional undergraduate online students. The projected growth in online learning, coupled with the increased interest among nontraditional undergraduate students to enroll in online programs, necessitates a persistence model that is aligned with the contemporary needs of students.

Simple Summary The early detection of oral cancer is a high priority, as improvements in this area could lead to greater cure rates and reduced disability due to extensive surgery. Oral cancer is very difficult to detect in over 70% of cases as it develops unseen until quite advanced, sometimes rapidly. Therefore, the development of markers in body fluids (liquid biopsies) indicative of cancerous changes have a high priority. We show here that small molecules called metabolites can distinguish between non-diseased oral cells and two types of cells found in oral cells on the road to cancer. Although our investigation is preliminary, some of the metabolites have already been detected in the saliva (split) of oral cancer patients, and could eventually help detect oral cancer development at an earlier stage. Abstract Premalignant oral lesions (PPOLs) which bypass senescence (IPPOL) have a much greater probability of progressing to malignancy, but pre-cancerous fields also contain mortal PPOL keratinocytes (MPPOL) that possess tumour-promoting properties. To identify metabolites that could potentially separate IPPOL, MPPOL and normal oral keratinocytes non-invasively in vivo, we conducted an unbiased screen of their conditioned medium. MPPOL keratinocytes showed elevated levels of branch-chain amino acid, lipid, prostaglandin, and glutathione metabolites, some of which could potentially be converted into volatile compounds by oral bacteria and detected in breath analysis. Extracellular metabolites were generally depleted in IPPOL, and only six were elevated, but some metabolites distinguishing IPPOL from MPPOL have been associated with progression to oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) in vivo. One of the metabolites elevated in IPPOL relative to the other groups, citrate, was confirmed by targeted metabolomics and, interestingly, has been implicated in cancer growth and metastasis. Although our investigation is preliminary, some of the metabolites described here are detectable in the saliva of oral cancer patients, albeit at a more advanced stage, and could eventually help detect oral cancer development earlier.

- Abstract
This book provides higher education students with a comprehensive resource to assist them in their academic persistence in an online course or program. It addresses a wide selection of topics emphasizing a myriad of factors that impact a student's persistence, and ultimate success, in an online program or course. The book helps students to gain insight into the skills, knowledge, and attributes needed to succeed in the autonomous nature of an online learning environment. Thus, this book helps students to proactively engage in activities to prepare for online learning. Information presented in each chapter is drawn from theory and recent research centered on persistence of online students in higher education. It incorporates hands-on practical activities to promote application of theory and research, and encourages students to demonstrate their knowledge, skills, and abilities through the use of reflective and thought-provoking activities. Hence, this book provides online students with an up-to-date resource they can use to develop an awareness of their readiness and preparedness for online learning. Additionally, this book equips students with information and strategies aimed at helping them to address gaps in their skills and knowledge that may present them with barriers to academic success. The content of this book is aligned with widely used student learning outcomes and objectives of first-year student seminar courses and orientation programs for graduate and undergraduate students enrolled in online programs. Furthermore, it is deliberately organized and structured to support an online student's academic journey as they navigate the online learning environment. As such, these features make it an ideal book for use by students, instructors, and academic advisors or college and university academic support staff.

Optimal timing for anticoagulation resumption after polypectomy is unclear. We explored the association between timing of anticoagulation resumption and occurrence of delayed post-polypectomy bleeding (PPB) and thromboembolic (TE) events. We performed a post-hoc analysis of patients in an earlier study whose anticoagulants were interrupted for polypectomy. We compared rates of clinically important delayed PPB and TE events in relationship to timing of anticoagulant resumption. Late resumption was defined as 2 days after polypectomy.Among 437 patients, 351 had early and 86 late resumption. Compared to early resumers, late resumers had greater polypectomy complexity. PPB rate was higher (but not significantly) in the late versus early resumers (2.3% vs. 0.9%, 1.47% greater, 95% CI [- 2.58 to 5.52], p = 0.26). TE events were more frequent in late versus early resumers [0% vs. 1.2% at 30 days, 0% vs. 2.3%, 95% CI 0.3-8, (p = 0.04) at 90 days]. On multivariate analysis, timing of restarting anticoagulation was not a significant predictor of PPB (OR 0.97, 95% CI 0.61-1.44, p = 0.897). Significant predictors were number of polyps ≥ 1 cm (OR 4.14, 95% CI 1.27-13.66, p = 0.014) and use of fulguration (OR 11.43, 95% CI 1.35-80.80, p = 0.014).Physicians delayed anticoagulation resumption more commonly after complex polypectomies. The timing of restarting anticoagulation was not a significant risk factor for PPB and late resumers had significantly higher rates of TE events within 90 days. Considering the potentially catastrophic consequences of TE events and the generally benign outcome of PPBs, clinicians should be cautious about delaying resumption of anticoagulation after polypectomy.

Background and ObjectiveOral malodour is often observed in gingivitis and chronic periodontitis patients, and the tongue microbiota is thought to play a major role in malodorous gas production, including Volatile Sulfur Compounds (VSCs) such as hydrogen sulfide (H2S) and methanethiol (CH3SH). This study aimed to examine the link between the presence of VSCs in mouth air (as a marker of oral malodour) and the oral bacterial ecology in the tongue and periodontal niches of healthy, gingivitis and periodontitis patients.MethodsParticipants were clinically assessed using plaque index, bleeding on probing (BOP) and periodontal probing depths, and VSC concentrations in their oral cavity measured using a portable gas chromatograph. Tongue scrapings, subgingival and interdental plaque were collected from healthy individuals (n=22), and those with gingivitis (n=14) or chronic periodontitis (n=15). The bacterial 16S rRNA gene region V3-V4 in these samples was sequenced and the sequences analysed using the Minimum Entropy Decomposition pipeline.ResultsElevated VSC concentrations and CH3SH:H2S were observed in periodontitis compared to health. Significant ecological differences were observed in the tongue microbiota of healthy subjects with high plaque scores compared to low plaque scores, suggesting a possible connection between the microbiota of the tongue and the periodontium and that key dysbiotic changes may be initiated in the clinically healthy who have higher dental plaque accumulation. Greater subgingival bacterial diversity was positively associated with H2S in mouth air. Periodontopathic bacteria known to be prolific VSC producers increased in abundance on the tongue associated with increased bleeding on probing (BOP) and total percentage of periodontal pockets >6mm, supporting the suggestion that the tongue may become a reservoir for periodontopathogens.ConclusionThis study highlights the importance of the periodontal microbiota in malodour and has detected dysbiotic changes in the tongue microbiota in periodontitis.

- Construction industry--Risk management
- Abstract
This volume describes risk management practices in the construction industry in selected countries, with an emphasis on developing countries and how these countries can learn from the practices in more developed ones. Risk management in the construction industry can be difficult to understand due to the various complex procedures that are involved and to the unique concerns and contexts associated with each project. The industry has been a key contributor to the economic and social development of many countries of the world and is increasingly incorporating sustainability into its practices. However it is plagued by various risks that can affect the quality, cost, time and overall sustainability of projects. Therefore, there is need to effectively manage risk in order to ensure timely completion of construction projects in good quality and within budget, which in turn results in more efficient and often more sustainable practices. The book is divided into four parts. The first section features a primer on risk management practices as they pertain to the construction industry. The second part dives in to describe risk management in selected developing countries, including Malaysia, Qatar, Saudi-Arabia, South Africa, Sri-Lanka and Tanzania, as well as the city of Hong Kong. The third section describes the construction risk management practices of a selection of more developed countries with known risk management institutes and established practices of risk management. These countries include Australia, Canada, Sweden and United States of America. The fourth part offers a general overview of the definition, concepts and process of risk management based on reviewed literature. It also discusses the benefits of effective risk management to clients and to project teams, especially from the perspective of ensuring sustainability. This last section also summarizes the risk management practices in both developing and developed countries for the purpose of improving the practices in the former by learning from the latter.

- Abstract
In many species, the offspring of related parents suffer reduced reproductive success, a phenomenon known as inbreeding depression. In humans, the importance of this effect has remained unclear, partly because reproduction between close relatives is both rare and frequently associated with confounding social factors. Here, using genomic inbreeding coefficients (FROH) for >1.4 million individuals, we show that FROH is significantly associated (p < 0.0005) with apparently deleterious changes in 32 out of 100 traits analysed. These changes are associated with runs of homozygosity (ROH), but not with common variant homozygosity, suggesting that genetic variants associated with inbreeding depression are predominantly rare. The effect on fertility is striking: FROH equivalent to the offspring of first cousins is associated with a 55% decrease [95% CI 44–66%] in the odds of having children. Finally, the effects of FROH are confirmed within full-sibling pairs, where the variation in FROH is independent of all environmental confounding.

- Abstract
Stratification of women according to their risk of breast cancer based on polygenic risk scores (PRSs) could improve screening and prevention strategies. Our aim was to develop PRSs, optimized for prediction of estrogen receptor (ER)-specific disease, from the largest available genome-wide association dataset and to empirically validate the PRSs in prospective studies. The development dataset comprised 94,075 case subjects and 75,017 control subjects of European ancestry from 69 studies, divided into training and validation sets. Samples were genotyped using genome-wide arrays, and single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) were selected by stepwise regression or lasso penalized regression. The best performing PRSs were validated in an independent test set comprising 11,428 case subjects and 18,323 control subjects from 10 prospective studies and 190,040 women from UK Biobank (3,215 incident breast cancers). For the best PRSs (313 SNPs), the odds ratio for overall disease per 1 standard deviation in ten prospective studies was 1.61 (95%CI: 1.57–1.65) with area under receiver-operator curve (AUC) = 0.630 (95%CI: 0.628–0.651). The lifetime risk of overall breast cancer in the top centile of the PRSs was 32.6%. Compared with women in the middle quintile, those in the highest 1% of risk had 4.37- and 2.78-fold risks, and those in the lowest 1% of risk had 0.16- and 0.27-fold risks, of developing ER-positive and ER-negative disease, respectively. Goodness-of-fit tests indicated that this PRS was well calibrated and predicts disease risk accurately in the tails of the distribution. This PRS is a powerful and reliable predictor of breast cancer risk that may improve breast cancer prevention programs.

The gene PTRH2 encodes a protein with peptidyl-tRNA hydrolase activity and is involved in the translation process in protein synthesis. The kinesin family member 1-A (KIF1A) gene encodes a molecular motor involved in axonal transport along microtubules. Mutations in these genes lead to respective phenotypical conditions that have been reported in the literature. In this paper, we present a novel syndrome of concurrent occurrence of mutations in the PTRH2 and KIF1A genes in a 19-year-old girl of Dravidian-Tamil descent from the Southern part of India. The girl presented with global developmental delay, intellectual disability, weakness of upper and lower limbs, and diabetes. On workup, she was found to have severe peripheral axonopathy, outer hair cell (OHC) dysfunction, severe bilateral sensorineural hearing loss (SNHL), total pancreatic lipomatosis, exocrine pancreatic insufficiency, cerebellar atrophy, vertebral artery hypoplasia, and scoliosis. The patient had a deceased elder sibling who also had had a similar phenotype. Whole exome sequencing (WES) revealed a novel variant in the PTRH2 gene and a rare variant in the KIF1A gene. The predominant axonal involvement seen in our patient, which was attributable to KIF1A involvement, distinguishes this syndrome from the infantile-onset multisystem neurologic, endocrine, and pancreatic disease (IMNEPD) caused by PTRH2 involvement alone. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report in the medical literature of a syndrome caused by the synergistic occurrence of mutations in the PTRH2 and KIF1A genes. In order to provide more clarity on the genetic and clinical features of such syndromes and to aid the treating clinician to recognize the existence of such syndromes, we propose the broader umbrella term "neuro-pancreatic syndromes" (NPS). Presently, under NPS, we include two entities: the syndrome described by us in this paper and the IMNEPD. Prompt and effective recognition and management of such NPS would immensely benefit the patient in terms of treatment and prognosis. Furthermore, we hope that this paper will promote further understanding of NPS and foster more research, both clinical and genetic, which would widen the spectrum of NPS. Eventually, this would throw more light on treatment options and ultimately benefit patients with NPS.

Being Human to Nature: A Call from the World of Sciences This article deals with the clarion call from the contemporary sciences to “befriend” nature; they also remind us that every human being needs to move towards being human. The call and the reminder become serious and urgent, more than ever before, as the damages done to the earth and the environment increasingly become more severe and alarming and some of the damages are even irrevocable. Let us analyze the issue from three specific angles, in which contemporary sciences invite every human being to move towards being human: the fact of mystery, the need for meaning in life and the demand for wisdom. The author expects science to collaborate with other disciplines to enrich humanity. It is high time that we realized, as Philip Clayton declares, “… science alone will never provide the answer” (Clayton, 2006: xvi). To look for meaning of life merely in scientific endeavors will be like looking for the right thing in a wrong place, or the wrong thing in a right place… but in both the cases, we will be the losers! Why should we, as rational beings, who are able to develop sciences, be the losers after all?

Background Asthma is common and expensive to treat. Inducible laryngeal obstruction (ILO) can mimic Asthma, risking excessive healthcare utilisation. This study aimed to answer the following research questions: Do adults with comorbid Asthma and ILO (AILO) have higher healthcare utilization than adults with Asthma only? Do patients with AILO have higher healthcare utilization prior to ILO intervention, compared to post intervention? Methods A systematic review was conducted (PROSPERO: CRD42020165034). Eligibility criteria included: Adults (>15 yrs) with instrumentally confirmed Asthma and/or ILO; all ILO interventions; all healthcare utilisation outcomes; Randomised Controlled Trials (RCTs); cohort and cross-sectional studies. Conference abstracts were included. Five electronic databases (MEDLINE, EMBASE, Scopus, CINHAL, Cochrane Library) were searched between 1983 and 2020; and reference lists from five key texts. Critical Appraisal Skills Programme, and Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development and Evaluations were used. A narrative synthesis was conducted using tables and data visualisations on healthcare access and medication use. Results 1,783 papers were retrieved, 16 met eligibility criteria. Eight intervention studies (534 participants), nine cross-sectional studies (450 participants) but no RCTs were retrieved. The mean age (±SD) was 46.4 (±9.8) years, with 75% females. An association between ILO and healthcare utilisation was observed, but the certainty of evidence was low. The absence of RCTs, and heterogeneity across studies meant meta-analysis was not possible. Quantitative synthesis of summary measures demonstrated that: Patients with comorbid Asthma and ILO accessed healthcare services 39% more than those with Asthma only (n=177/3 studies). ILO intervention reduced the number of times patients accessed health services by 50.5%. (n=275/3 studies). ILO intervention enabled 74% of patients to reduce or stop Asthma medication, though degree of change was not reported (n=191/4 studies). 38% of patients with ILO had previously been misdiagnosed with Asthma for an average of 5.3 years (n=388/4 studies). Discussion ILO was consistently associated with excessive healthcare use for adults with comorbid Asthma, and adults misdiagnosed as having Asthma. The quality of evidence was downgraded for bias, confounding, poor reporting of diagnostic methods, interventions and outcome measures; and inappropriate summary statistics. More research is needed to determine strength of association.

Chronic hepatitis C (CHC) is a major cause of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) worldwide. While directly acting antiviral (DAA) drugs are now able to cure virtually all hepatitis C virus (HCV) infections, even in subjects with advanced liver disease, what happens to the liver and progression of the disease after DAA-induced cure of viremia is only beginning to emerge. Several large-scale clinical studies in different patient populations have shown that patients with advanced liver disease maintain a risk for developing HCC even when the original instigator, the virus, is eliminated by DAAs. Here we review emerging studies derived from multiple, complementary experimental systems involving patient liver tissues, human liver cell cultures, human liver slice cultures, and animal models, showing that HCV infection induces epigenetic, signaling, and gene expression changes in the liver associated with altered hepatic innate immunity and liver cancer risk. Of critical importance is the fact that these virus-induced abnormalities persist after DAA cure of HCV. These nascent findings portend the discovery of pathways involved in post-HCV immunopathogenesis, which may be clinically actionable targets for more comprehensive care of DAA-cured individuals.

Background and Purpose: Metabolic traits affect ischemic stroke (IS) risk, but the degree to which this varies across different ethnic ancestries is not known. Our aim was to apply Mendelian randomization to investigate the causal effects of type 2 diabetes (T2D) liability and lipid traits on IS risk in African ancestry individuals, and to compare them to estimates obtained in European ancestry individuals. Methods: For African ancestry individuals, genetic proxies for T2D liability and circulating lipids were obtained from a meta-analysis of the African Partnership for Chronic Disease Research study, the UK Biobank, and the Million Veteran Program (total N=77 061). Genetic association estimates for IS risk were obtained from the Consortium of Minority Population Genome-Wide Association Studies of Stroke (3734 cases and 18 317 controls). For European ancestry individuals, genetic proxies for the same metabolic traits were obtained from Million Veteran Program (lipids N=297 626, T2D N=148 726 cases, and 965 732 controls), and genetic association estimates for IS risk were obtained from the MEGASTROKE study (34 217 cases and 406 111 controls). Random-effects inverse-variance weighted Mendelian randomization was used as the main method, complemented with sensitivity analyses more robust to pleiotropy. Results: Higher genetically proxied T2D liability, LDL-C (low-density lipoprotein cholesterol), total cholesterol and lower genetically proxied HDL-C (high-density lipoprotein cholesterol) were associated with increased risk of IS in African ancestry individuals (odds ratio per doubling the odds of T2D liability [95% CI], 1.09 [1.07–1.11]; per standard-deviation increase in LDL-C, 1.12 [1.04–1.21]; total cholesterol: 1.23 [1.06–1.43]; HDL-C, 0.93 [0.89–0.99]). There was no evidence for differences in these estimates when performing analyses in European ancestry individuals. Conclusions: Our analyses support a causal effect of T2D liability and lipid traits on IS risk in African ancestry individuals, with Mendelian randomization estimates similar to those obtained in European ancestry individuals.

Motivation: Trait variation within species can reveal plastic and/or genetic responses to environmental gradients, and may indicate where local adaptation has occurred. Here, we present a dataset of rangewide variation in leaf traits from seven of the most ecologically and economically important tree species in Europe. Sample collection and trait assessment are embedded in the GenTree project (EU‐Horizon 2020), which aims at characterizing the genetic and phenotypic variability of forest tree species to optimize the management and sustainable use of forest genetic resources. Our dataset captures substantial intra‐ and interspecific leaf phenotypic variability, and provides valuable information for studying the relationship between ecosystem functioning and trait variability of individuals, and the response and resilience of species to environmental changes. Main types of variable contained: We chose morphological and chemical characters linked to trade‐offs between acquisition and conservation of resources and water use, namely specific leaf area, leaf size, carbon and nitrogen content and their ratio, and the isotopic signature of stable isotope ¹³C and ¹⁵N in leaves. Spatial location and grain: We surveyed between 18 and 22 populations per species, 141 in total, across Europe. Time period: Leaf sampling took place between 2016 and 2017. Major taxa and level of measurement: We sampled at least 25 individuals in each population, 3,569 trees in total, and measured traits in 35,755 leaves from seven European tree species, i.e. the conifers Picea abies, Pinus pinaster and Pinus sylvestris, and the broadleaves Betula pendula, Fagus sylvatica, Populus nigra and Quercus petraea. Software format: The data files are in ASCII text, tab delimited, not compressed.

Cardiovascular genetics ,Genome-wide association studies - Abstract
Autosomal genetic analyses of blood lipids have yielded key insights for coronary heart disease (CHD). However, X chromosome genetic variation is understudied for blood lipids in large sample sizes. We now analyze genetic and blood lipid data in a high-coverage whole X chromosome sequencing study of 65,322 multi-ancestry participants and perform replication among 456,893 European participants. Common alleles on chromosome Xq23 are strongly associated with reduced total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, and triglycerides (min P = 8.5 × 10−72), with similar effects for males and females. Chromosome Xq23 lipid-lowering alleles are associated with reduced odds for CHD among 42,545 cases and 591,247 controls (P = 1.7 × 10−4), and reduced odds for diabetes mellitus type 2 among 54,095 cases and 573,885 controls (P = 1.4 × 10−5). Although we observe an association with increased BMI, waist-to-hip ratio adjusted for BMI is reduced, bioimpedance analyses indicate increased gluteofemoral fat, and abdominal MRI analyses indicate reduced visceral adiposity. Co-localization analyses strongly correlate increased CHRDL1 gene expression, particularly in adipose tissue, with reduced concentrations of blood lipids.

This work presents the influence of cardanol in a high-friction material as a binder resin. Cardanol is a natural derived resin which has a phenolic structure bonding which holds all the ingredients during mechanical stress. Five specimens were prepared (phenolic resin and 5, 10, 15, 20% cardanol resin) by varying cardanol resin. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy analysis of phenolic and cardanol resins was done. Thermogravimetric analysis, physical and mechanical testing were done for all the samples. Result shows that 20% cardanol shows a better result for specific gravity, heat swell and loss of ignition. It also shows a low weight gain in water, salt water and lubricating oil. SEM analysis shows small broken metallic materials and be lost from the contact zone immediately after being broken from the composite surface.

The main objective of this research work is to develop an environmentally friendly brake pad with the incorporation of bio based binder, filler, reinforcement and friction modifiers. This study suggests that maintaining the high friction stability at high speed and load for a brake pad material can be sustained by cardanol resin, a natural resin binder. The tribo test procedure of JASO 406C was performed on two different cardanol (15CF and 20 CF) compositions by maintaining the two test parameters such as pressure sensitivity (effectiveness test). Result shows that 3–(8,11,14-Pentadecatrienyl) phenol Cardanol in phenolic resin is found to be more superior and most suitable binder resin combination, for the given ingredients compared to using only a cardanol resin as a binder in brake pad. Furthermore, the morphology of wear debris, contact plateaus and transient patches are analysed by scanning electron microscope.
