Learning and decision-making are greatly influenced by context. When navigating a complex social world, individuals must quickly ascertain where to gain important resources and which group members are useful sources of such information. Such dynamic behavioural processes require neural mechanisms that are flexible across contexts. Here we examine how the social context influences the learning response during a cue discrimination task and the neural activity patterns that underlie acquisition of this novel information. Using the cichlid fish, Astatotilapia burtoni , we show that learning of the task is faster in social groups than in a non-social context. We quantify the neural activity patterns by examining the expression of Fos, an immediate-early gene, across brain regions known to play a role in social behaviour and learning (such as the putative teleost homologues of the mammalian hippocampus, basolateral amygdala and medial amygdala/BNST complex). We find that neural activity patterns differ between social and non-social contexts. Taken together, our results suggest that while the same brain regions may be involved in the learning of a cue association, the activity in each region reflects an individual's social context.

Arterial tortuosity syndrome (ATS) is an autosomal recessive connective tissue disease caused by biallelic variants in the SLC2A10gene and characterized by tortuosity and elongation of the aorta and medium-sized arteries. It’s considered an extremely rare disease; only 106 individuals with genetically confirmed ATS have been identified to date. The aim of this study is to contribute to the phenotypic, cardiovascular and genetic characterization of this disease. Four cases of ATS from two families are described, contributing to the clinical delineation of the entity. Two cases with diaphragmatic hernia and a case with complex uropathy, reported in the literature only 11 times, are highlighted. Regarding the vascular involvement, a predominant supra-aortic affectation stands out and only 1 case of focal stenosis is detected (renal artery). All presented severe intracranial tortuosity. To reduce hemodynamic stress on the arterial wall, beta-adrenergic blocking treatment was prescribed. A not previously described mutation (c.899T>G (p.Leu300Trp)) is presented in a proband; it has an allegedly deleterious effect in compound heterozygosis with the pathogenic variant c.417T>A (p.Tyr139Ter). The 3 other patients, siblings born from healthy consanguineous parents, had an homozygous variant in SLC2A10: c.510G>A (p.Trp170Ter).

Background Iron deficiency in patients with heart failure with reduced left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) confers a poor prognosis in terms of hospital admissions and mortality, worsening functional class and quality of life. Its replacement with ferric carboxymaltose (FCM) has demonstrated to improve clinical parameters, however, the way it is achieved remains unclear. Improvement of myocardial contractility is proposed as possible hypothesis and global longitudinal strain (GLS) could behave as an early and high sensitive parameter to assess this improvement in myocardial deformation due to increased iron availability after replacement of iron deficiency. Purpose Evaluate the effect of replacement of iron deficiency with FCM on left ventricular global longitudinal strain in patients with stable heart failure with left ventricular ejection fraction Methods Observational, analytical, longitudinal and prospective study that enrolled 45 patients with stable heart failure with LVEF Results The study population's median age was 71 years, 67% were men, 76% had high blood pressure, 62% dyslipemia and 33% diabetes. At baseline they presented LVEF 32% ±8.75%, LV systolic volume index 62.3ml±29.56ml and LV GLS −9.09%±3.44%. Introduction Drug-induced long QT syndrome (DI-LQTS) is a clinical entity with prevalence and arrhythmic risk not well defined. Purpose To determine the clinical characteristics of patients with DI-LQTS diagnosed in the setting of a tertiary hospital center. Methods Prospective observational study with consecutive inclusion of patients with the diagnosis of DI-LQTS as per standard criteria, in a tertiary hospital, between 2018 and 2022. Results Eighty-five patients were included (age 65±15 years, 59% male). The mean corrected QT interval (QTc) of the entire cohort was 545±56 ms. The drugs responsible for QTc prolongation were: psychotropic drugs 51%, antiarrhythmics 38%, anesthetics 29%, antibiotics 15%, antineoplastics 3%, other 2%. QTc prolongation was due to the combination of ≥2 responsible drugs in 46 (54%) patients, and to the use of a single drug in 39 (46%). Twenty-one patients (25%) presented ventricular arrhythmias at the time of drug-induced QT prolongation: 10 (12%) ventricular fibrillation, 7 (8%) sustained ventricular tachycardia, 3 (3%) non-sustained ventricular tachycardia, 1 (1%) frequent ventricular extrasystole. Introduction: The bivalve Semimytilus patagonicusis a potentially useful bioindicator because of its feeding mechanism, and the worm Pseudonereis gallapagensisis also interesting as a bioindicator because it is benthonic, abundant, and a food source for the squid Doryteuthis gahi. However, their sensitivity to contaminants has not been sufficiently studied. Objective: To test the usefulness of the mussel Semimytilus patagonicusand the polychaete Pseudonereis gallapagensisas ecotoxicological tools for detergents in the marine environment.Methods: We used 120 individuals of S. patagonicusfrom Miraflores and 120 of P. gallapagensisfrom Barranco (both near the city of Lima, Peru). For the bioassays, we used two anionic detergents (active ingredient, ai, Sodium Dodecylbenzene Sulfonate). For S. patagonicus, with an average valve length of 32.3 ± 6.4 mm, we tested "Double power Ariel®" (90 %) at concentrations of 17.5, 35, 70 and 140 mg ai l-1, evaluated after 48 and 72 h of exposure; and for P. gallapagensis,with a total body length of 20.4 ± 8.8 mm, we tested "Caricia®" at 62.5, 125, 250, 500 and 1 000 mg of ai l-1at 24, 48 and 72 h of exposure.Results: The LC50values (Mean Lethal Concentration) were 34.95 mg ia l-1for S. patagonicus and 102.48 mg ia l-1for P. gallapagensisat 72 h of exposure. The detergents were toxic for S. patagonicusand slightly toxic for P. gallapagensis. The risk classification for S. patagonicusis “harmful” and for P. gallapagensis“not classifiable”.Conclusions: These two bioindicators allow evaluating the acute toxicity of SDBS-based commercial detergents in the marine aquatic environment.
