Background: The tropical plant acerola of the genus Malpighia includes shrubs and trees with fruit that is high in nutrients and bioactive chemicals. Acerola stands out due to its exceptionally high ascorbic acid content, ranging from 1500 to 4500 mg/100 g. Vitamin C intake greatly influences gingival health. The addition of nanoparticles along with vitamin C-rich acerola exhibits high antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, thereby positively improving gingival health., Method: The antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties of aqueous extracts of the acerola plant ( Malpighia emarginata ) were assessed. Silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) and copper oxide nanoparticles (CuONPs) were synthesized using the aqueous extract of acerola cherry gel by the phytogenic fabrication method. The antioxidant potential of silver and copper nanoparticles was evaluated using 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH), hydrogen peroxide, ferric reducing antioxidant power (FRAP), 2,2'-azino-bis(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid) (ABTS), and nitric oxide scavenging activities., Results: Increasing concentrations of nanoparticles showed an increase in scavenging activity. Overall, CuONPs and AgNPs exhibited remarkable radical quenching efficacies. The anti-inflammatory effectiveness of CuONPs and AgNPs was monitored, showing suppression of protein denaturation as demonstrated by bovine serum albumin (BSA), egg albumin (EA), and membrane stabilization assays. The results revealed that increasing the doses of CuONPs and AgNPs had a positive impact on the anti-inflammatory activity of the nanoparticles., Conclusion: The present study revealed that both nanoparticles provided better antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activities. Introduction Nanotechnology is the study of manipulating matter at the atomic scale involving particles smaller than 100 nm. Silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) are gaining popularity across diverse sectors including medical, food, healthcare, consumer goods, and industrial fields due to their distinctive physical and chemical characteristics. The eco-friendly synthesis of AgNPs offers a straightforward, cost-effective, and environmentally benign method devoid of hazardous chemicals. Methodology Eighty milliliters (mL) of silver nitrate mixed with 20 mL of Azadirachta indica and Syzygium aromaticum plant extract underwent two days of magnetic stirring for AgNP synthesis. Characterization was done via ultraviolet-visible (UV-vis)-spectroscopy (300-700 nm), and antimicrobial properties, which were checked with Enterococcus faecalis , were assessed using the agar-well diffusion method. Results The change in color and peak observed in the UV-vis spectrum confirmed the successful synthesis of AgNPs. Both neem and clove extract-mediated synthesis of AgNPs exhibited antibacterial activity against E. faecalis . However, neem extract synthesized AgNPs displayed a larger inhibitory zone diameter and lower minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) and minimum bactericidal concentration (MBC) values compared to those synthesized using clove extract. Conclusion Incorporating neem and clove extracts in AgNP synthesis offers a practical, eco-friendly, and cost-efficient method with notable efficacy. These AgNPs exhibit antibacterial activity against E. faecalis , suggesting their viability as potent antibacterial agents for addressing oral pathogens. Background: The recent spike in the incidence of type 2 diabetes is most likely caused by the obvious rise in the prevalence of overweight and obesity. The risk of developing noncommunicable illnesses can be prevented and reduced with even modest weight loss. This study was conducted with the aim of evaluating the effectiveness of a nurse-led intervention (NLI) strategy on weight reduction among adults in urban Puducherry., Materials and Methods: A two-arm, parallel-group, randomized controlled study with an open label was conducted with obese adults in urban areas of Puducherry, namely Nesavalar colony and Govindanpet, from November 2022 to February 2023. Totally, 88 obese adults were randomized using a simple random sampling method to either the NLI arm or the general care (GC) arm. WHO STEPS (version 3.2) questionnaire was adopted to gather baseline and end line data. NLI arm participants received NLI and GC arm participants received GC from urban primary health center. In statistical analysis, the proportion was used to summarize categorical variables. The parametric and nonparametric tests were applied based on the variable type and normality of the data. Multiple linear regressions were used with outcome changes in weight in the NLI arm., Results: At 16 weeks, the NLI arm lost a mean weight of - 2.58 kg and the GC arm gained 0.38 kg with a mean difference in weight of 2.96 between arms. A significant reduction was found ( P < 0.001) in weight, waist circumference, body mass index, and also found significant improvement in cholesterol profile and thyroid stimulating hormone., Conclusion: This community-based NLI study is effective for weight reduction in urban Puducherry and it lowers the risk of developing noncommunicable diseases among adults. Background: The clinical use of antimicrobial agents for managing aphthous ulcers and periodontal diseases has long been a subject of intensive research by numerous investigators. As concerns over the side effects and antibiotic resistance associated with conventional therapies persist, there has been a concerted effort to explore alternative medicinal approaches. In line with this objective, our study introduces a novel herbal gum paint designed specifically to address the therapeutic needs of individuals suffering from oral ulcers and periodontal diseases., Materials and Methods: The herbal formulation utilized in our study was prepared using extracts derived from Licorice ( Glycyrrhiza glabra ) and Triphala, a combination of three fruits: Emblica officinalis , Terminalia chebula , and Terminalia belerica . These ingredients were selected based on their documented medicinal properties. The preparation process involved extraction and formulation techniques optimized for maximum efficacy. Antimicrobial activity was assessed using the bacterial culture method, where the formulation's ability to inhibit the growth of specific bacterial strains relevant to oral health was tested. Meanwhile, cytotoxicity was evaluated using the Brine Shrimp Assay method. Statistical analysis was conducted using a one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) and Tukey post hoc test to validate the significance of our findings with statistical significance set at p<0.05., Results: The formulation exhibited significant activity against microbes when compared to the control. The cytotoxic activity was present at a concentration of 60 and 80µL, which indicated safe usage within specified concentration ranges, highlighting its potential for clinical application without adverse effects on biological systems. Statistically significant differences were obtained between the antimicrobial activity of the formulated gum paint and the commercial gum paint against Candida albicans species at 25 µL and 80 µL (p=0.00)., Conclusion: The study underscores the promising therapeutic potential of the herbal gum paint developed in this research. By harnessing the natural antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties of Licorice and Triphala, the formulated gum paint showed efficacy against C. albicans.  These findings contribute to the growing body of evidence supporting the integration of herbal remedies into mainstream oral healthcare practices. Background Herbal medicine has gathered increasing attention in contemporary healthcare practices, offering natural remedies for a wide range of ailments such as skin diseases, liver disorders, bronchitis, and asthma. Among the plethora of medicinal plants, Croton bonplandianum , commonly known as "Ban Tulsi," holds significant medicinal value owing to its diverse pharmacological properties. This study investigated the cytotoxicity, embryotoxicity, antidiabetic, and anticariogenic effects of an ethanolic extract derived from C. bonplandianum . The research objectives were to explore the preparation of an ethanolic extract of C. bonplandianum and employ a multifaceted approach by evaluating its cytotoxicity, embryotoxicity, anticariogenic, and antidiabetic potentials. Materials and methods In this study, the β-glucosidase inhibitory and the α-amylase inhibitory assays were utilized to evaluate the antidiabetic activity of the  C. bonplandianum ethanolic extract. The in vitro cytotoxicity activity was assessed by using the brine shrimp lethality assay (BSLA), and embryotoxicity was evaluated using zebrafish embryos and larvae. Through the agar well diffusion method and the time-kill curve analysis, the anticariogenic activity was evaluated. Results In α-amylase and β-glucosidase inhibitory assays, the ethanolic extract of  C. bonplandianum showed potent antidiabetic properties, near those of standard acarbose. The cytotoxicity evaluation using the BSLA showed less toxicity. The anticariogenic activity of the ethanolic extract of C. bonplandianum  was assessed by comparing the standard (Amoxyrite) in terms of its zone of inhibition against oral pathogens such as  Streptococcus mutans and Lactobacillus species (spp.). The antibacterial efficiency was validated using a time-kill curve assay in which the study depends on the concentration of the bacterial pathogenic organisms, namely, Lactobacillus spp. and S. mutans . In embryotoxicity evaluation, there were no morphological malformations in zebrafish larvae or embryos when exposed to high concentrations of C. bonplandianum ethanolic extract. Conclusion The ethanolic extract of  C. bonplandianum exhibited promising antidiabetic and anticariogenic effects, supporting its conventional usage in alternative medicine. Background: The probability of a positive outcome of root canal therapy is substantially higher if the infection is eradicated successfully before the obturation of the root canal system. Irrigation is an essential aspect of root canal debridement, as it enables more thorough cleaning than is possible with root canal instrumentation alone. To overcome the side effects of chemical irrigants, there has been a search for herbal medicines as substitutes., Objectives: The aim of the present study was to explore the antimicrobial efficacy of white tea-mediated silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) formulated as an intracanal irrigant against Enterococcus faecalis, and to compare it with the efficacy of chlorhexidine and sodium hypochlorite irrigants., Material and Methods: The experimental groups were as follows: group I - white tea-mediated AgNPs; group II - 2% chlorhexidine; and group III - 2.5% sodium hypochlorite. The characterization of AgNPs was performed using ultraviolet-visible (UV-Vis) spectroscopy and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) analysis. Enterococcus faecalis was inoculated onto Mueller-Hinton agar plates. The disks impregnated with irrigants were placed on the inoculated plates and incubated aerobically at 37°C for 24 h. Then, the growth inhibition zones were measured. Statistical analysis was performed using the one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) and the post hoc tests., Results: A concentration of 50 μL of white tea-mediated AgNPs exhibited the greatest zone of inhibition (32 ±2 mm), followed by 2% chlorhexidine (25 ±1 mm) and 2.5% sodium hypochlorite (23 ±3 mm)., Conclusions: White tea-mediated AgNPs showed promising results in the elimination of E. faecalis, being superior to chlorhexidine and sodium hypochlorite irrigants.

Background Selenium nanoparticles (SeNPs) are one of the metal nanoparticles that have been widely utilized for their anti-microbial, anti-oxidant, anti-inflammatory activities, and other biomedical applications. Tridax procumbens (TP) stem extract is a promising herb species rich in flavonoids, tannins, alkaloids, phytosterols, and hydroxycinnamates, which play a major role in wound healing applications.  Aim The study aims to synthesize SeNPs using TP stem extract , characterizations, and its biomedical applications. Materials and methods SeNPs were synthesized using TP stem extract. The green synthesis of SeNPs was confirmed by ultraviolet-visible (UV-vis) spectra analysis. The synthesized SeNPs were characterized using Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The agar well diffusion method was utilized to evaluate the anti-bacterial properties of the green synthesized SeNPs using TP stem extract. The anti-oxidant effect of SeNPs was tested using the 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) assay, ferric-reducing anti-oxidant power assay (FRAP), and hydroxyl radical scavenging assay (H₂O₂). The anti-inflammatory effect was investigated using the bovine serum albumin assay and egg albumin denaturation method, and the cytotoxic effect of the green synthesized SeNPs was tested using the brine shrimp lethality (BSL) assay. Results The green synthesis of SeNPs was confirmed using different types of analysis techniques. The characterizations were done by UV-visible spectroscopy analysis, exhibiting a maximum peak at the range of 330 nm. SEM analysis revealed the shape of the nanoparticle to be hexagonal. The agar well diffusion method exhibited the anti-bacterial efficacy of SeNPs against wound microorganisms with a zone of inhibition of 14.6 mm for Escherichia coli ( E. coli ), 15.8 mm for Staphylococcus aureus ( S. aureus ), and 15.4 mm for Pseudomonas aeruginosa ( P. aeruginosa ). The TP stem-mediated SeNPs showed potential effects in anti-oxidant, anti-inflammatory, and cytotoxic activity, which shows very little toxicity. Conclusion Overall, the green synthesis of TP-stem-mediated SeNPs has great potential in biomedical applications. Thus, the synthesized SeNPs exhibit significant anti-bacterial efficacy against wound pathogens. The TP stem-mediated SeNPs showed potential effects in anti-oxidant, anti-inflammatory, and cytotoxic activity, which shows low toxicity. Purpose: Healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) place a significant financial burden on United States hospitals. HAI treatments extend hospital lengths of stay and increase hospital operational costs while significantly reducing hospital profit margins. Given these challenges, the research aim of this study was to explore the association between HAIs and hospital financial performance. A better understanding of this relationship can assist hospital leaders in optimizing the use of scarce financial resources to reduce HAI prevalence. Methods: Data for calendar year 2022 for active short-term acute care hospitals ( n = 1454) in the US were analyzed using multiple linear regression analysis. We explored two derived dependent variables, operating expense per staffed bed and operating expense per discharge. The independent variables included four healthcare-associated infection rates: methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) infection rate, Clostridium difficile (C. diff) infection rate, Catheter-Associated Urinary Tract Infection (CAUTI) rate, and Central Line Associated Blood Stream Infections (CLABSI). Appropriate organizational and market-level variables that may independently influence hospital financial performance were included as control variables. Results: The results revealed that C. diff ( β : 0.037, p < 0.05) and CAUTI ( β : 0.031, p < 0.05) rates were positively associated with an increase in operating expense per staffed bed, while increases in MRSA ( β : 0.042, p < 0.001), C. diff ( β : 0.062, p < 0.001), and CAUTI rates ( β : 0.039, p < 0.001) were correlated with increased operating expenses per discharge. Conclusions: This study demonstrates that specific HAIs may be associated with increased hospital expenses. Proactively targeting these infections through tailored interventions may lead to reduced hospital costs, improved financial performance, and economic stability.

Titanium dioxide (TiO 2 ) nanoparticles were prepared through Rosmarinus-officinalis leaf extracts at 90 and 200°C. In this research, the degradations of methylene blues by using TiO 2 nanoparticles Sun light radiations were studied. The synthesized materials were characterized using XRDs, UV-Vis, PL, SEM, TEM, EDS and XPS. The results displayed that bio-synthesis temperatures intrude the shapes and sizes of TiO 2 nanoparticles. For TiO 2 -90, micrographs show separable crystalline with irregular morphologies and agglomerate cubic particles. For the other TiO 2 -200 sample, SEM and TEM micro-imaging shows crumbly agglomerated cubic structures. The XRD shows that the intense peaks observed at angles of 25.37°, 37.19°, 47.81° and 53.89° confirming a highly crystalline oriented as (004), (200), and (105) planes respectively. The optical properties of TiO2 nanoparticles synthesized were conveyed by PL and UV-Vis. The energy band gap calculated was 3.0 eV for both samples; that indicates heating temperature didn't influence the band gap of the samples. The elemental composition Ti and O 2 is shown by EDS and XPS. Photo-catalytic experiments discovered that TiO 2 -90 nanoparticles were well-organized in photo-degradations of MB, likened to TiO 2 -200. The great activities of TiO 2 -90 were because of better physicochemical characteristics associated with TiO 2 -200 effectively degrading MB under photo-light. Background Glass ionomer cement (GIC) serves as a crucial biomaterial in dental restoration, offering applications in filling, lining, and adhesive procedures. Nevertheless, its mechanical properties often fall short, particularly in regions subjected to considerable stress. To address this issue, zirconia nanoparticles are incorporated at specific levels. Aim To assess the antimicrobial efficacy and compressive resilience of GIC modified with zirconia nanoparticles synthesized through green synthesis methods. Material and methods Zirconia nanoparticles were synthesized via a green method utilizing aloe vera extract in solvent form. These nanoparticles were then mixed into GIC at different concentration levels. Group I incorporated zirconia nanoparticles at a concentration of 3%, Group II at 5%, and Group III at 10%, while Group IV was the control, consisting of traditional GIC. Following that, samples were prepared and underwent characterization through various analytical techniques. The ability to inhibit microbial growth and the compressive resilience of the groups were examined. Microbial inhibition against the bacterial strains was assessed through minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC), and the ability to withstand compression was gauged by measuring the maximum force the specimen could endure before fracturing. Data underwent analysis with Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (IBM SPSS Statistics for Windows, IBM Corp., Version 24.0, Armonk, NY). Repeated measures of analysis of variance (ANOVA) were utilized to gauge average MIC values and compressive strength. Following this, Tukey's post hoc test was employed for pairwise comparisons. Results The findings indicated, incorporating zirconia nanoparticles into GIC led to an improvement in its antimicrobial effectiveness, with a noticeable enhancement observed as the weight percent (% wt) of the additive increased. This improvement was notably noticeable in its effectiveness against Streptococcus mutans and Lactobacillus , exceeding that of the control with a noteworthy distinction. Furthermore, there were significant enhancements in compressive strength, in Group I (180.48 ± 1.02), Group II (191.25 ± 0.52), and Group III (197.52 ± 0.75), compared to Group IV (167.22 ± 1.235), with significant disparities (p < 0.05). Conclusion The research illustrates that introducing green-synthesized zirconia nanoparticles into GIC leads to heightened bactericidal potency and compressive resilience when contrasted with the control group (Group IV). Notably, the highest concentration of 10% demonstrated the most favourable antimicrobial attributes alongside enhanced strength. Consequently, integrating green-synthesized zirconia nanoparticles into GIC holds potential as a proficient material. Iron nanoparticles comprise a significant class of inorganic nanoparticles, which discover applications in various zones by prudence of their few exciting properties. This study achieved the green synthesis of iron oxide nanoparticles (IONPs) by black cumin seed (Nigella sativa) extract, which acts as a reducing and capping agent. The iron nanoparticles and black cumin extract were synthesized in three different concentrations: (01:01, 02:04,01:04). UV-visible spectroscopy, XRD, FTIR, and AFM characterized the synthesized iron oxide nanoparticles. UV-visible spectra show the maximum absorbance peak of 01:01 concentration at 380 nm. The other concentrations, such as 02:04, peaked at 400 nm and 01:04 at 680 nm, confirming the formation of iron oxide nanoparticles. AFM analysis reveals the spherical shape of iron oxide nanoparticles. The XRD spectra reveal the (fcc) cubic crystal structure of the iron oxide nanoparticles. The FTIR analysis's peaks at 457.13, 455.20, and 457.13 cm-1 depict the characteristic iron nanoparticle synthesis. Lauric acid, a major component of coconut oil, has been studied for its various health benefits over the years. Lauric acid is a medium-chained fatty acid with several potential biomedical applications based on its antimicrobial action, capacity for drug delivery, tissue engineering scaffolds, and cleansing capabilities. Various studies are carried out in vitro and in vivo using experimental animals, such as rats, shedding light on the efficacy of lauric acid. The studies related to lauric acid were brought under one umbrella and emphasized the need for further research to explore the efficacy of lauric acid in human health. It deconstructs the routing components of the current multi-directional queuing system (MDQS) architecture to identify optimal policies for every traffic scenario. Initially, the state value is divided into a function value and a parameter value. Combining these two scenarios updates the resulting optimized state value. Ultimately, an analogous criterion is developed for the current dataset. Next, the error or loss value for the present scenario is computed. Furthermore, utilizing the Deep Q-learning methodology with a quad agent enhances previous study discoveries. The recommended method outperforms all other traditional approaches in effectively optimizing traffic signal timing.

Over-consumption of iron-rich red meat and hereditary or genetic iron overload are associated with increased risk of colorectal carcinogenesis, yet the mechanistic basis of how metal-mediated signaling leads to oncogenesis remains enigmatic. Using fresh colorectal cancer (CRC) samples we identify Pirin, an iron sensor, that overcomes a rate-limiting step in oncogenesis, by re-activating the dormant human-reverse-transcriptase (hTERT) subunit of telomerase holoenzyme in an iron-(Fe3+)-dependent-manner and thereby drives CRCs. Chemical genetic screens combined with isothermal-dose response fingerprinting and mass-spectrometry identified a small molecule SP2509, that specifically inhibits Pirin-mediated hTERT reactivation in CRCs by competing with iron-(Fe3+) binding. Our findings, first to document how metal ions reactivate telomerase, provide a molecular mechanism for the well-known association between red meat, and increased incidence of CRCs. Small molecules like SP2509 represent a novel modality to target telomerase that acts as driver of 90% human cancers and is yet to be targeted in clinic.

Introduction: The present study aimed to evaluate and compare the anti-inflammatory effects of two oral rinse formulations, a commercial oral rinse and an  Ocimum tenuiflorum and Ocimum gratissimum  (nanocomposites, NCs) oral rinse, using in vitro assays commonly employed to assess anti-inflammatory activity., Materials and Methods: The anti-inflammatory potential of the oral rinse formulations was assessed using bovine serum albumin (BSA) denaturation, egg albumin denaturation, and membrane stabilization assays. Diclofenac sodium was used as a reference standard in all assays. The inhibition percentages of BSA denaturation and egg albumin denaturation assays, as well as membrane stabilization effects, were measured at various concentrations of the oral rinse formulations., Results: Both the commercial oral rinse and the  Ocimum tenuiflorum and Ocimum gratissimum  oral rinse demonstrated significant inhibition of BSA denaturation, indicating their anti-inflammatory potential. The  Ocimum tenuiflorum and Ocimum gratissimum (NCs) oral rinse consistently showed higher inhibition percentages than the commercial oral rinse, suggesting stronger anti-inflammatory effects in this assay. In the egg albumin denaturation assay, both formulations exhibited inhibition of protein denaturation, with the  Ocimum tenuiflorum and Ocimum gratissimum  (NCs) oral rinse showing comparable or slightly higher inhibition percentages. The membrane stabilization assay further supported the anti-inflammatory properties of both formulations, with the  Ocimum tenuiflorum and Ocimum gratissimum (NCs) oral rinse demonstrating efficacy comparable to diclofenac sodium., Discussion: The results suggest that  Ocimum tenuiflorum and Ocimum gratissimum (NCs) oral rinse may possess stronger anti-inflammatory effects compared to commercial oral rinse, as evidenced by higher inhibition percentages in the BSA denaturation assay. Introduction: Staffing is critical to hospital quality, but recent years have seen hospitals grappling with severe shortages, forcing them to rely on contract or agency staff for urgent patient care needs. This shift in staffing mix has raised questions about its impact on quality. Consequently, this study investigated whether the increased use of agency staff has affected healthcare quality in hospitals. Given the limited recent research on this topic, practitioners remain uncertain about the effectiveness of their staffing strategies and their potential impact on quality., Methods: Drawing from agency theory, data were obtained from Definitive Healthcare which consolidates information from numerous public access databases pertaining to hospitals such as the American Hospital Association Annual Survey (hospital profile) and the Hospital Value-Based Purchasing Program (quality data). We conducted a cross-sectional study using a multivariable linear regression model (2021-2022) with appropriate organizational and market- level control variables. Quality was measured across eight variables while the independent variable of interest was agency labor cost ratio operationalized as the percentage of net patient revenue consumed by agency labor expense., Results: Our results suggested that the employment of agency staff was significantly and negatively associated with six of eight quality measures tested, including the Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS) star rating, Hospital Compare rating, the hospital Total Performance Score (TPS), and three of the four sub-domains that comprise the TPS: clinical domain score, person and community engagement domain score, and the efficiency and cost reduction score., Discussion: Our results indicated that the increased use of agency labor may have a significant negative influence on quality outcomes at the hospital level. The purpose of this study was to explore the determinants of risk literacy among university students in the United States by utilizing the Berlin Numeracy Test. Risk literacy skills are essential for decision-making and communication of risks, but few studies consider university students. This study aims to evaluate the association of sociodemographic factors with individual risk literacy levels. An observational cross-sectional survey study was used with a convenience sample of 184 undergraduate and graduate university students. Statistical analysis revealed significant differences for demographics at risk for negative outcomes associated with lower risk literacy. For this group of students, the majority had below-average numeracy. These findings can guide healthcare professionals to focus on college-age individuals with low-risk literacy scores to enhance patient understanding, facilitate communication, and promote healthier behaviors.

Introduction:  Dental caries has become a substantial global health burden, and many techniques have been used in dentistry to protect the tooth from decay. Brassica oleracea is a green cruciferous vegetable with a good source of vitamins C, K and E, which are also effective antibiotics and antioxidants. These characteristics will shield the oral cavity from pathogenic onslaught and can be considered during the formulation of antimicrobial mouthwash, toothpaste, or dental sealants., Materials and Methods:   B.  oleracea extract was prepared by heating and condensing the red and green cabbage. Both extracts were assessed for antimicrobial activity (antibacterial and antifungal activities) and cytotoxicity. After incubation, the zone of inhibition was calculated for antibacterial activity and the number of live nauplii for cytotoxicity.  Results: The extract from red cabbage was found to have more effective antibacterial properties than that from green cabbage. The red B. oleracea extract formed the highest zone of inhibition against Candida albicans (20 mm), followed by Enterococcus faecalis (15 mm) and Streptococcus mutans (9 mm). In contrast, the green cabbage extract formed the highest inhibition against E. faecalis (12 mm). The cytotoxicity increases with increased concentration, with the highest toxicity at 20 µL for both extracts.  Conclusion: The properties of B. oleracea can be utilized in dental products such as toothpaste, mouthwash, and dental sealants due to their antibacterial effects. Background Glass ionomer cement (GIC) plays a vital role in dental restorative procedures, serving purposes such as filling, luting, and adhesion. However, its inadequate mechanical properties pose challenges, especially in areas experiencing significant stress. To overcome this limitation, nanohydroxyapatite (nHA), known for its bioactive phosphate content, is added to the GIC at specific concentrations to improve its properties. Aim  We aim to evaluate the antimicrobial property and compressive strength of green-mediated nHA-incorporated GIC. Material and methods Green synthesis of hydroxyapatite nanoparticles was prepared using Moringa oleifera extract in a solvent form and eggshell waste served as the calcium source. These nHA powders were then integrated into the GIC at varying concentrations (3%, 5%, and 10%) designated as Group I, Group II, and Group III, respectively, while Group IV (control) consisted of conventional GIC. Specimens were fabricated and subjected to chemical structure analysis through Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), energy dispersive X-ray (EDX), and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The antimicrobial activity and compressive strength of all groups were investigated. The antimicrobial activity against Streptococcus mutans and Lactobacillus was evaluated through the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) test, while compressive strength was evaluated by measuring the maximum force endured by the specimen before fracturing. Data analysis utilized IBM SPSS Statistics software, employing repeated measures ANOVA to determine mean MIC values and compressive strength, with Tukey's posthoc test for pairwise comparisons. Results The results of the study showed that the antimicrobial efficacy of nHA GIC improved with increasing weight percent (% wt) of the additive, exhibiting significantly enhanced activity against Streptococcus mutans and Lactobacillus compared to the control group (Group IV) with statistical significance (p < 0.05). Moreover, the compressive strength exhibited notable enhancements in the modified groups, including Group I (172.55 ± 0.76), Group II (178.16 ± 0.760), and Group III (182.45 ± 0.950), when compared to the control (162.46 ± 1.606), with statistically significant differences (p < 0.05). Conclusion The study demonstrates that the incorporation of green-mediated nHA-containing GIC results in superior antimicrobial efficacy and compressive strength compared to the control group (Group IV). In particular, the highest concentration of nHA-modified GIC (10%) exhibited the most favorable antimicrobial properties along with increased strength. Therefore, utilizing green-mediated nHA in the GIC shows promise as an effective restorative material. Aim The aim of this study is to examine the possible therapeutic effect of pterostilbene (PTS), a chemical present in grapes and blueberries, in the treatment of liver cancer by analysing its interactions with important proteins linked to the wingless/integrated (Wnt) signaling system. Objective Using computational techniques like molecular docking and absorption, distribution, metabolism, and excretion (ADME) studies, this research focuses on examining the pharmacokinetics and molecular interactions of PTS with proteins such as vimentin (Vim), glycogen synthase kinase 3 beta (GSK3-β), epithelial cadherin (E-cadherin), interleukin-6 (IL-6), interleukin-1 beta (IL-1β), c-Jun N-terminal kinase (JNK), and Wnt, all of which are connected to the Wnt signaling pathway in liver cancer. Methods The study includes the synthesis of proteins and ligands, ADME investigations for PTS, and AutoDock Vina molecular docking simulations to evaluate binding affinities and interactions. PTS is obtained from PubChem, while protein structures are obtained from the Protein Data Bank. Results Strong binding affinities between PTS and essential proteins in the Wnt signaling cascade are shown by molecular docking, which also highlights noteworthy hydrogen bonds, hydrophobic interactions, and electrostatic contacts. According to an ADME study, PTS has advantageous pharmacokinetic properties, such as moderate solubility, membrane permeability, and a minimal chance of drug interactions. Conclusion The extensive study highlights PTS's potential as a viable treatment option for liver cancer. Introduction Effective root canal cleaning and sealing are essential for a successful endodontic procedure. For the purpose of disinfecting root canals, both herbal and non-herbal medications are recommended. This study aimed to analyze the antimicrobial and cytotoxic properties of biosynthesized silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) synthesized from Azadirachta indica /neem and chemically synthesized AgNPs from trisodium citrate (TSC) against oral pathogens to be further used as an irrigant in endodontic treatment. Materials and methods To synthesize  A. indica  AgNPs, powdered fresh A. indica  leaves were weighed, added to double distilled water, heated for 30 minutes, and then combined with silver nitrate solution. TSC was also used to create TSC AgNPs. X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), ocular observation, and the ultraviolet-visible light (UV-vis) spectrum were used to characterize the AgNPs. Studies were conducted on the extract's characteristics, including its cytotoxicity and antibacterial activity. Results The hue shift and peak on the UV-vis spectrophotometer were signs that AgNPs were forming. The XRD pattern showed that the sample included crystalline AgNPs, mostly spherical ones. By using SEM, the presence of AgNPs was also verified. AgNPs that were synthesized showed antimicrobial efficacy against Enterococcus   faecalis . Compared to chemically synthesized AgNPs, A. indica AgNPs showed lower minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) and minimum bactericidal concentration (MBC) values, a bigger zone of inhibition (ZOI), and less cytotoxic action. Conclusion This study demonstrates the minimal cytotoxicity and antibacterial activity of A. indica AgNPs against E. faecalis . This suggests that they might also be employed as root canal cleaners. Aim The study aims to evaluate the antibacterial properties of ethanolic extracts from Clitoria ternatea and Camellia sinensis against pathogens causing UTI, wound pathogens, and other clinical bacterial infections and their cytotoxic effects using the brine shrimp lethality assay (BSLA). Methods Ethanolic extracts of C. ternatea and C. sinensis were prepared, and their antibacterial activity was tested against Staphylococcus aureus , Escherichia coli , Klebsiella pneumoniae , Pseudomonas aeruginosa , and Enterococcus faecalis using the well diffusion method. The cytotoxicity was assessed through the BSLA, determining the LC 50 values for each extract. Results The formulation of both plant extracts exhibited significant antibacterial activity against UTI pathogens, and wound pathogen bacteria showed higher efficacy compared to other studies. The BSLA revealed a dose-dependent increase in toxicity, with C. ternatea extracts demonstrating higher cytotoxicity than C. sinensis . Conclusion The ethanolic extracts of C. ternatea and C. sinensis possess antibacterial properties against UTI-causing bacteria and show cytotoxic effects in a brine shrimp model. These findings suggest the potential of these plants for developing alternative treatments for UTI. Aim This study aims to synthesize silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) using herbal formulations derived from Zingiber officinale (ginger) and Ocimum gratissimum and to evaluate their anti-inflammatory and antidiabetic activities in vitro. Methods The synthesis of AgNPs was performed using Z. officinale and O. gratissimum , and the AgNPs were confirmed by analyzing their ultraviolet-vis spectra. The anti-inflammatory activity was assessed using two assays, specifically the bovine serum albumin (BSA) denaturation assay and the egg albumin (EA) denaturation assay. The antidiabetic activity was assessed using the α-amylase inhibitory assay and the β-glucosidase inhibitory assay. Results This study evaluated the anti-inflammatory and antidiabetic activities of green-synthesized AgNPs using Z. officinale and O. gratissimum . The maximum absorption peak was observed for AgNPs at ~433 nm (wavelength). In the BSA denaturation assay, 78% inhibition was observed at a concentration of 50 μl. Similarly, in the EA denaturation assay, an inhibition of 74% was observed at the same concentration compared to the standard. In terms of antidiabetic activity, when compared to the standard at a concentration of 50 μl, the α-amylase inhibitory assay and the β-glucosidase inhibitory assay showed approximately 78% and 80% inhibition, respectively. Conclusion The use of Z. officinale and O. gratissimum extracts for the synthesis of AgNPs using a green synthesis method presents a sustainable and environmentally friendly approach. The synthesized AgNPs demonstrated significant anti-inflammatory and antidiabetic efficacy, suggesting their potential application in pharmaceuticals for treating diabetes and inflammation. The protein kinase Gcn2 and its effector protein Gcn1 are part of the general amino acid control signalling (GAAC) pathway best known in yeast for its function in maintaining amino acid homeostasis. Under amino acid limitation, Gcn2 becomes activated, subsequently increasing the levels of phosphorylated eIF2α (eIF2α-P). This leads to the increased translation of transcriptional regulators, such as Gcn4 in yeast and ATF4 in mammals, and subsequent re-programming of the cell's gene transcription profile, thereby allowing cells to cope with starvation. Xrn1 is involved in RNA decay, quality control and processing. We found that Xrn1 co-precipitates Gcn1 and Gcn2, suggesting that these three proteins are in the same complex. Growth under starvation conditions was dependent on Xrn1 but not on Xrn1-ribosome association, and this correlated with reduced eIF2α-P levels. Constitutively active Gcn2 leads to a growth defect due to eIF2α-hyperphosphorylation, and we found that this phenotype was independent of Xrn1, suggesting that xrn1 deletion does not enhance eIF2α de-phosphorylation. Our study provides evidence that Xrn1 is required for efficient Gcn2 activation, directly or indirectly. Background Dental caries stands out as a significant global infectious disease, with oral diseases posing substantial health concerns primarily due to bacterial, fungal, and yeast infections. Kalanchoe pinnata demonstrates antimicrobial, anticancer, antiparasitic, and hepatoprotective properties, with applications in various ailments. Piper longum exhibits potent antimicrobial effects against bacterial and viral pathogens due to the bioactive compounds within the plant. This study aims to assess the antimicrobial efficacy of P. longum and K. pinnata formulation against oral pathogens and evaluate its other biomedical potential. Methodology The agar well diffusion method was employed to assess the antimicrobial activity of the formulation containing P. longum and K. pinnata against oral pathogens. The protein leakage assay was employed to assess the ability of the prepared formulation to cause protein release from oral pathogens. The other biomedical potentials of the prepared formulation including cytotoxic effects, antioxidant, and anti-inflammatory properties were investigated using in vitro assays. Results The prepared P. longum and K. pinnata formulation demonstrated significant antimicrobial activity against tested oral pathogens, with inhibition zones observed for Staphylococcus aureus (32 mm), Streptococcus mutans (22 mm), and Candida albicans (12 mm). However, no inhibition was observed on Enterococcus faecalis at the highest concentration of 100 μL. Additionally, the formulation demonstrated significant antioxidant activity with percentages of 89.22%, 84.4%, and 86.93% in 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH), hydrogen peroxide (H 2 O 2 ), and ferric (Fe 3+ )-reducing antioxidant power assays, respectively, at the maximum concentration of 50 μL. Furthermore, the formulation exhibited potential anti-inflammatory activity, as evidenced by 79% inhibition in bovine serum albumin (BSA) denaturation assay and 77% inhibition in egg albumin (EA) denaturation assay at the highest concentration of 50 μL. Additionally, the formulation displayed low cytotoxic effects, even at the highest concentration of 80 μL. Conclusion K. pinnata  and  P. longum  formulation demonstrated potential antimicrobial efficacy against oral pathogens and exhibited diverse therapeutic potentials. Among nanoparticles, metallic variants have garnered the greatest attention due to their unique physical and chemical attributes. Strontium (Sr), known for promoting growth, aiding bone regeneration, and stimulating calcium signaling, holds significance in the medical domain. Consequently, Sr-based nanoparticles have gained interest in medical and dental applications due to their resemblance to calcium properties. Researchers worldwide are drawn to Mimosa pudica because of its pharmacological properties, including its ability to treat wounds, and its anti-diabetic, anti-toxin, anti-hepatotoxin, and antioxidant effects. Mimosa pudica mediated strontium nanoparticles' antioxidant activity was tested against FRAP assay, H2O2 assay, and DPPH assay with ascorbic acid as standard, where in all three assays, increasing concentration of Mimosa pudica mediated strontium nanoparticles exhibited increasing antioxidant activity which was similar to the ascorbic acid. Andrographis Paniculata also known as the "King of Bitters" is a herbal medicine of the Acanthaceae family which is native to India and Sri Lanka. Andrographis Paniculata is a very useful medicinal plant as it has antioxidant, antidiabetic, antipyretic, anticancer properties. The main antibacterial activity of Andrographis Paniculata is due to the presence of andrographolide and arabinogalactan proteins. The medicinal properties of rose are mostly due to their abundance in phenolic compounds. They have many pharmacological properties like antibacterial, antioxidant, thrombolytic, and anticancer properties. The hips of the rose plant have Vitamin C in a concentration that is three times more than a citrus fruit that can be used in the treatment of a flu or a cold. Mueller-Hinton agar was utilized for this activity to determine the zone of inhibition. The plant extracts with different concentrations were loaded, and the plates were incubated for 24 hours at 37°C. After the incubation time, the zone of inhibition was measured. The results of this study are significant because they demonstrate the antibacterial activity of Andrographis Paniculata and Rosa against three bacterial pathogens. This suggests that the formulation of Andrographis Paniculata and Rosa has potential as a natural antibacterial agent. Further studies are needed to explore the mechanism of action and potential applications of this formulation. Introduction: The green synthesis of metal oxide nanoparticles using plant extracts has emerged as an eco-friendly method. Titanium dioxide nanoparticles (TiO2NPs) were synthesized using Cissus rotundifolia in this study. Titanium dioxide nanoparticles were utilized in restorative medicine for enhanced medicinal properties and in dental composites for their antimicrobial activities. Cissus rotundifolia is recognized as a medicinal plant due to its diverse properties, including mild laxatives, anti-inflammatory, and hyperglycemic activities., Materials and Methods: The antimicrobial activity of the prepared nanoparticles against Lactobacillus Sp. and Streptococcus mutans was evaluated using agar well diffusion method. The bactericidal and bacteriostatic activity of the prepared TiO2NPs was examined using time-kill kinetic analysis., Results: The prepared nanoparticles exhibited potential antimicrobial activity against Lactobacillus sp. (12 mm) at the highest concentration of 100 μg/mL. Nanotechnology is emerging as a promising approach in the development of novel therapeutic strategies. Nanoparticles, due to their unique physicochemical properties and small size, have the potential to improve the delivery of therapeutic agents, enhance their bioavailability, and increase their efficacy. Among various types of nanoparticles, strontium nanoparticles have gained attention due to their potential antidiabetic activity and cytotoxic effects against cancer cells. Mimosa pudica , also known as "Sensitive Plant" or "Touch-Me-Not," is a medicinal plant known for its diverse pharmacological activities, including antidiabetic and anticancer properties. Recent research has focused on the synthesis of strontium nanoparticles by using Mimosa pudica as a green and sustainable approach. These nanoparticles have shown promising results in terms of their antidiabetic activity and cytotoxic effects against cancer cells. Thus, in this study, the antidiabetic effect was studied using the alpha-amylase inhibitor assay, and the cytotoxic effect was studied using the brine shrimp lethality assay. In these assays, increasing concentration of Mimosa pudica -mediated strontium nanoparticles exhibited increasing antidiabetic and cytotoxic effects, which was similar to the standard used, which is acarbose. Andrographis (A.) paniculata contains andrograpanin, which is both anti-inflammatory and anti-infective. Rosa comprises over 150-200 species from the family Rosaceae . Rosa exerts various properties, including anti-inflammatory property. Herbal mouthwash was made using A. paniculata leaf powder and Rosa extract. The anti-inflammatory effect was evaluated using an albumin denaturation assay and egg albumin denaturation. The percentage of protein denaturation that is inhibited by the formulation of A. paniculata and Rosa indicates that it has strong anti-inflammatory effect. According to the findings, as concentration is raised, the formulation's anti-inflammatory activity rises. Fundamental data analysis assists in the evaluation of critical questions to discern essential facts and elicit formerly invisible evidence. In this article, we provide clarity into a subtle phenomenon observed in cancer incidences throughout the time of the COVID-19 pandemic. We analyzed the cancer incidence data from the American Cancer Society [1]. We partitioned the data into three groups: the pre-COVID-19 years (2017, 2018), during the COVID-19 years (2019, 2020, 2021), and the post-COVID-19 years (2022, 2023). In a novel manner, we applied principal components analysis (PCA), computed the angles between the cancer incidence vectors, and then added lognormal probability concepts in our analysis. Our analytic results revealed that the cancer incidences shifted within each era (pre, during, and post), with a meaningful change in the cancer incidences occurring in 2020, the peak of the COVID-19 era. We defined, computed, and interpreted the exceedance probability for a cancer type to have 1000 incidences in a future year among the breast, cervical, colorectal, uterine corpus, leukemia, lung & bronchus, melanoma, Hodgkin's lymphoma, prostate, and urinary cancers. We also defined, estimated, and illustrated indices for other cancer diagnoses from the vantage point of breast cancer in pre, during, and post-COVID-19 eras. The angle vectors post the COVID-19 were 72% less than pre-pandemic and 28% less than during the pandemic. The movement of cancer vectors was dynamic between these eras, and movement greatly differed by type of cancer. A trend chart of cervical cancer showed statistical anomalies in the years 2019 and 2021. The development of a viable sensor for agrochemical pesticides requires the assessment of trace levels. To achieve this, we developed a diphenylamine (DPA) sensor using needle-like strontium pyrophosphate embedded in sulfur-doped graphitic carbon nitride (SrPO/SCN). We obtained needle-like SrPO/SCN nanocomposite through co-precipitation followed by ultrasonication. The formation of the SrPO/SCN nanocomposite was verified through FT-IR, XRD, XPS, SEM-EDX, and HR-TEM analyses. Additionally, we explored their electrochemical behavior towards DPA using differential pulse voltammetry (DPV) and cyclic voltammetry (CV). The SrPO/SCN nanocomposite-modified electrode exhibited a higher anodic peak current (15.47 µA) than those of the other modified and unmodified electrodes. Under optimal experimental conditions, SrPO/SCN/GCE demonstrated a good limit of detection (0.009 µmol/L), dynamic linear range (0.05-98 µmol/L), and sensitivity (0.36 µAµM -1 cm -2 ). A calcaneal tuberosity avulsion fracture constitutes a sub-group of calcaneal fractures and it poses a high risk of soft tissue compromise, necessitating urgent reduction and fixation. This fracture was commonly treated with screw fixation, and fixation failure associated with this method has been reported in the literature. In light of this, we tested and compared the strength of two-screw (2S) versus three-screw (3S) fixations, where the third screw was fixed from the posterior calcaneal tuberosity towards the anterior process in addition to the two parallel screws. Synthetic calcaneum models were tested with an Instron machine to measure the maximum tensile load and stiffness. The mean maximum tensile loads for 3S and 2S were 455.8 N (SD = 47.4) and 341.0 N (SD = 30.9), respectively, and the difference was statistically significant. The mean stiffnesses for 3S and 2S were 29.2 N/mm (SD = 1.8) and 29.7 N/mm (SD = 2.0), but this difference did not reach statistical significance. Aim: This study aims to quantitatively assess the anti-inflammatory and antioxidant activities of the ethanolic extract of Phoenix dactylifera seeds., Materials and Methods: Around 30 seeds of Phoenix dactylifera were collected, crushed, and powdered; 10 gm of powder was added to 100 ml of ethanolic extract and boiled for further analysis. Egg albumin denaturation assay and hydroxyl radical scavenging assay were done to evaluate the anti-inflammatory and antioxidant activity, respectively. An independent t-test was used to compare the anti-inflammatory and antioxidant potential of the ethanolic extract of Phoenix dactylifera using SPSS Statistics version 22.0 (IBM Corp. Released 2013. IBM SPSS Statistics for Windows, Version 22.0; Armonk, NY: IBM Corp.), and values less than 0.05 are considered statistically significant., Results: The seeds of Phoenix dactylifera have potent anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. Both anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties improved with higher concentrations and were comparable to the control substances diclofenac sodium, vitamin E, and ascorbic acid, respectively. Background Glass ionomer cement (GIC) demonstrates biocompatibility and fluoride ion release, indicating their potential to inhibit a wide range of bacteria, although this remains uncertain. Lemongrass and neem are recognized for their potent antimicrobial activity against numerous pathogenic microorganisms. The objective of the study is to evaluate the antimicrobial effectiveness and compressive strength of GIC modified with neem and lemongrass. Methodology Lemongrass and neem were incorporated into conventional GIC at varying concentrations. Group I - neem-modified GIC (0.5%, 1%, 2%), group II - lemongrass-modified GIC (0.5%, 1%, 2%), and group III (non-modified GIC as a control group). The disk-shaped specimens were then compared to unmodified GIC (control). Antimicrobial effectiveness was assessed using the minimal inhibitory concentration (MIC) assay against Streptococcus mutans and Lactobacillus . Compressive strength was assessed using a Universal Testing Machine, with a crosshead speed set to 0.5 mm per minute. Statistical analysis was conducted with a significance level set at p < 0.05. Results Neem modification displayed superior antimicrobial effectiveness against both Streptococcus mutans and Lactobacillus at all concentrations when compared to the control, with 2% showing the least mean value of 0.262. In contrast, lemongrass modification exhibited a significant difference in effectiveness against Streptococcus mutans but no difference against Lactobacillus . Neem modification demonstrated superior performance compared to lemongrass (p < 0.05). Both modified groups showed no significant impact on compressive strength. Conclusions Neem-modified GIC demonstrated the highest antimicrobial efficacy against Streptococcus mutans and Lactobacillus without altering its compressive strength. This suggests its potential as a promising alternative material in restorative dentistry. Background and objective Glass ionomer cement (GIC), also known as polyalkenoate cement, has been extensively used in dentistry for both luting and restorative purposes. Despite being the first choice for aesthetic restorations due to their chemical bonding ability to teeth, GICs have faced challenges such as low mechanical properties, abrasion resistance, and sensitivity to moisture, leading to the search for improved materials.  This study aims to assess the effects of thermocycling on the compressive, flexural strength, and microhardness of green-mediated nanocomposite-modified GIC in comparison to traditional GIC. Methodology Green-mediated nanoparticles, consisting of chitosan, titanium, zirconia, and hydroxyapatite (Ch-Ti-Zr-HA), were synthesized using a one-pot synthesis technique to form nanocomposites. These nanocomposites were then incorporated into GIC specimens in varying concentrations (3%, 5%, and 10%), denoted as Group I, Group II, and Group III, respectively. Group IV served as the control, consisting of conventional GIC. To assess the performance of the novel restorative materials over an extended period, compressive strength, flexural strength, and microhardness were measured before and after thermocycling using a universal material testing machine. Furthermore, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) analysis was carried out following the thermocycling process. The collected data were subjected to statistical analysis through one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) and paired t-tests. Results  The findings demonstrated that, in comparison to the control group, both the mean compressive strength and flexural strength, as well as hardness, were notably higher for the 10% and 5% nanocomposite-modified GIC specimens before and after thermocycling ( P  < 0.05). Notably, there was no notable difference observed between the 5% and 10% concentrations ( P > 0.05). These results suggest that incorporating green-mediated nanocomposites (Ch-Ti-Zr-HA) modified GIC at either 5% or 10% concentration levels leads to improved mechanical properties, indicating their potential as promising alternatives in dental restorative materials. Conclusions Based on our findings, it can be inferred that the 10% and 5% concentrations of green-mediated (Ch-Ti-Zr-HA) modified GIC exhibit superior compressive and flexural strength compared to conventional GIC. Additionally, analysis of the scanning electron microscope (SEM) morphology revealed that green-mediated GIC displays smoother surface characteristics in contrast to conventional GIC. Background Glass ionomer cement (GIC) is widely recognized for its self-adhesive characteristics and biocompatibility, making it commonly used as a restorative material. However, challenges related to limited antibacterial effectiveness and relatively low mechanical properties have hindered its widespread clinical use. Clove and ginger are recognized for their potent antimicrobial activity against numerous pathogenic microorganisms. The present study aims to enhance the clinical applicability of GIC by modifying it with clove and ginger extract. Aim The objective of the study is to assess the antimicrobial effectiveness and compressive strength of GIC modified with ginger and clove extract. Materials and methods Ginger and clove extracts were prepared and incorporated into conventional GIC at three concentrations for each, creating ginger-modified GIC groups (Group A, Group B, and Group C) and clove-modified GIC groups (Group D, Group E, and Group F), with Group G as the control (conventional GIC without modification). The antimicrobial assessment was conducted on disc-shaped GIC specimens (3.0 mm height x 6.0 mm diameter) prepared using molds. Bacterial strains were used to evaluate antimicrobial properties, with minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) assays conducted at intervals of one to four hours for both modified and unmodified groups. Compressive strength specimens were prepared using cylindrical molds (6.0 mm height × 4.0 mm diameter), according to the ISO (International Organization for Standardization) guidelines. The evaluation was conducted using a Zwick universal testing machine (ElectroPuls® E3000, Instron, Bangalore, India), with the highest force at the point of specimen fracture recorded to determine compressive strength. Statistical analysis was conducted utilizing a one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) alongside Tukey's post hoc test, with a significance threshold set at p < 0.01. Results The antimicrobial effectiveness of clove and ginger-modified GIC was assessed through a MIC assay, revealing a statistically significant improvement in antimicrobial potency against Streptococcus mutans and Lactobacillus within the modified groups compared to the control group (p < 0.01). Increased extract concentration correlated with enhanced antimicrobial activity. Clove-modified GIC exhibited superior antimicrobial efficacy compared to ginger extract. Compressive strength was higher in clove-modified GIC groups (p < 0.01), with Group F showing a maximum value of 175.88 MPa, while other modified groups demonstrated similar results to the control, with a value of 166.81 MPa (p > 0.01). Conclusion The study concludes that both clove-modified GIC and ginger-modified GIC exhibited antimicrobial activity against Streptococcus mutans and Lactobacillus species. The antimicrobial activity was notably higher in clove-modified GIC compared to ginger-modified GIC. Additionally, the compressive strength of clove-modified GIC surpassed all other groups. Thus, clove-modified GIC emerges as a promising restorative material for addressing recurrent caries. Background Herbal medicine, or phytotherapy, has been used for centuries in traditional healing practices to harness the therapeutic properties of different plant-derived elements. Acorus calamus , a perennial herbaceous plant, has significant historical importance in traditional medicine, specifically in Ayurveda, where it is referred to as "Vacha." This study investigates the antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and antimicrobial characteristics of the A. calamus dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) extract. The objectives of the research are to provide valuable knowledge about the preparation of A. calamus DMSO extract and to explore its potential anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and antimicrobial effects. Materials and methods The A. calamus DMSO extract was derived from leaves, and its antioxidant activity was evaluated through the use of the 2,2-diphenyl-1-picryl hydrazyl (DPPH) assay, hydroxyl radical scavenging assay (H 2 O 2 assay), and ferric reducing antioxidant power (FRAP) assay. The anti-inflammatory activity was assessed using the Bovine serum albumin (BSA) denaturation assay, egg albumin (EA) denaturation assay, and membrane stabilization assays. The antimicrobial activity was analyzed using the agar well diffusion technique and the time-kill curve assay. Results In DPPH and H 2 O 2 tests, the DMSO extract of A. calamus showed significant antioxidant activity, near that of standard ascorbic acid. The FRAP assay demonstrated a correlation between the dose and the activity of reducing ferric ions. The A. calamus  DMSO extract exhibited significant anti-inflammatory properties in BSA and EA denaturation assays, similar to the standard diclofenac sodium. The anti-inflammatory potential of the A. calamus DMSO extract was further confirmed through the membrane stabilization assay. The DMSO extract of A. calamus exhibited a significant inhibition zone against the pathogens Streptococcus mutans and Pseudomonas aeruginosa during the antimicrobial evaluation, surpassing the efficacy of the standard antibiotic. The time-kill curve assay validated the antibacterial efficacy, which was dependent on the concentration. Conclusion The A. calamus DMSO extract exhibited promising antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and antimicrobial properties, supporting its traditional use in alternative medicine. Background In this research, iron oxide nanoparticles were synthesized using Coleus amboinicus stem extract, which is used for various diseases such as throat infection, cough, fever, nasal congestion, and digestive problems.  Aim This study aimed to formulate a green synthesis of iron oxide nanoparticles mediated by Coleus amboinicus (known as karpuravalli in Tamil) and assess its antimicrobial and antioxidant properties.  Materials and methods Iron oxide nanoparticles were synthesized, and then their antimicrobial properties were tested against two specific pathogens, i.e., Streptococcus mutans and Candida albicans, using the agar well diffusion technique. Background The exploration of green synthesis for silver nanoparticles using diverse plant sources has gained significant attention. This study specifically investigates the use of Ocimum tenuiflorum and Ocimum gratissimum , known for their antibacterial properties, in synthesizing silver nanoparticles. The primary aim of this study is to evaluate the antimicrobial efficacy of silver nanoparticles synthesized using a herbal formulation composed of Ocimum tenuiflorum and Ocimum gratissimum  against different oral pathogens. Materials and methods The process involved the combination of herbal extracts from Ocimum tenuiflorum  and Ocimum gratissimum  with a silver nitrate solution leading to the synthesis of silver nanoparticles. The formation of silver nanoparticles was confirmed by ultraviolet and visible absorption spectroscopy. The obtained silver nanoparticles were used to study their antimicrobial activity. Antimicrobial activity was assessed using the agar well diffusion method against pathogens including Streptococcus  mutans, Enterococcus faecalis, C. albicans, Lactobacillus acidophilus, and S. aureus . The zone of inhibition quantified antimicrobial effectiveness. A time-kill curve assay evaluated bactericidal properties and the concentration-dependent relationship between silver nanoparticles and the net growth rate of oral pathogens. Results Statistical analysis was done to compare measures such as mean, standard deviation, and percentages. The antimicrobial assessment demonstrated that 100 μg/mL of silver nanoparticles exhibited the highest efficacy against S. mutans, S. aureus, E. faecalis , and Lactobacillus sp . For C. albicans , all concentrations of silver nanoparticles and the control plant extract displayed similar antimicrobial activity. The time-kill assay illustrated effective inhibition at 100 μg/mL against all tested pathogens, including S. mutans, S. aureus, E. faecalis, C. albicans, and Lactobacillus sp .  The result showed positive inhibitory activity of silver nanoparticles against all tested bacterial strains. Conclusion The significant antimicrobial efficacy of green-synthesized silver nanoparticles positions them as promising candidates for dental applications. Background According to existing literature, introducing natural antibacterial agents into glass ionomer cement (GIC) has been associated with potential negative impacts on their strength properties. Hence, this study aims to explore the antibacterial effectiveness of glass ionomer cement enriched with Acacia nilotica and subsequently assess its compressive strength characteristics. Aim The objective of the study is to assess the antimicrobial effectiveness and compressive strength of glass ionomer cement modified with Acacia nilotica . Materials and methods  The plant extract was incorporated into the conventional glass ionomer cement in three different proportions (powder GIC : extract: liquid GIC ), divided into group I, group II, and group III with ratios of 2:1:1, 3:1:2, and 3:2:1 respectively. Additionally, a control group denoted as group IV was included without any modifications. Subsequently, the specimens were prepared, and their chemical structure was analyzed using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), followed by testing for antimicrobial activity using the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) assay against Streptococcus mutans and Lactobacillus . The assessment of compressive strength was conducted following ISO 9917-1:2007 standards, and the recorded values represent the maximum force the specimen could withstand before fracturing. Results The antimicrobial effectiveness against Streptococcus mutans and Lactobacillus exhibited a notable increase in all modified specimens compared to the control group, with a significance level of p<0.05. Additionally, significant improvements in compressive strength were observed in group III (183.49±2.99) when compared to the remaining groups. The higher concentrations of the plant extract resulted in superior outcomes. Conclusion Therefore, the incorporation of Acacia nilotica into GIC shows promising potential as a restorative material. These investigations can provide valuable insights into the material's performance and durability, contributing to its potential application in dental restorations. To combat this issue, nanotechnology offers a promising avenue for enhancing antimicrobial efficacy. This study explores the potential synergistic effects of combining nanoscale silica particles with conventional antibiotics, including doxycycline, metronidazole, and ciprofloxacin, against E. faecalis biofilms. The unique characteristics of silica nanoparticles, such as their increased reactivity and ability to be functionalized with other compounds, make them ideal candidates for augmenting antibiotic efficacy. This research investigates the antimicrobial properties of these silica-based combinations and their potential to eliminate or inhibit E. faecalis biofilms more effectively than conventional treatments.  Methodology: The methods involved the preparation of nanostructured silica particles and their combination with doxycycline, Flagyl, and ciprofloxacin at subinhibitory concentrations. These combinations were then tested against E. faecalis biofilms using the agar well diffusion technique., Results: Preliminary results suggested that the synergistic interactions between silica nanoparticles and antibiotics can significantly enhance antimicrobial efficacy. The combined treatment exhibited superior inhibitory effects on E. faecalis compared to antibiotics or silica nanoparticles alone ( P  < 0.05).  Conclusions: This study sheds light on the potential of nanoscale silica-based combinations to address the challenges posed by E. faecalis biofilms in endodontics. Background Discoloration affects glass ionomer cement (GIC) color stability due to its brittle nature and microporosity. To counter this, incorporating alternative materials is essential for maintaining color stability. Aim This study aims to determine the color stability and gloss of GIC modified with bioactive chitosan, titanium, zirconia, and hydroxyapatite nanoparticles before and after artificial aging. Materials and methods  The study was conducted at Saveetha Research Centre, Saveetha Dental College and Hospitals, Saveetha Institute of Medical and Technical Sciences, Saveetha University, located in Chennai, India. Green-mediated chitosan, titanium, zirconia, and hydroxyapatite (Ch-Ti-Zr-HA) nanoparticles were synthesized using the one-pot synthesis technique. Forty-eight disc-shaped specimens were prepared by incorporating the obtained nanoparticles (nanocomposite) into the GIC, with a diameter of 5 mm and thickness of 2 mm. The specimens were prepared in different concentrations (3%, 5%, and 10%) designated as group I, group II, and group III, respectively. Group IV, serving as the control, consisted of conventional GIC without any modifications. Following preparation, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and energy-dispersive X-ray (EDX) microanalysis confirmed sample elements, and the specimens were submerged in distilled water for a duration of 24 hours prior to the commencement of testing. Subsequently, the specimens underwent artificial aging (thermocycling), between temperatures of 5°C and 55°C, for a total of 30,000 cycles, with a 30-second dwell time. Color change and gloss characteristics were assessed both after 24 hours and following thermocycling using a spectrophotometer and glossometer, respectively. The average color change parameter (ΔE) was measured using Adobe Photoshop. The data obtained were subjected to statistical analysis using an unpaired t-test. Results Significant color stability variations were observed post thermocycling (P = 0.001). Group 2 (5%) exhibited minimal delta E difference (0.508 ± 0.105), indicating superior color stability, while group 4 (control) had maximum difference (1.15 ± 0.187), indicating lower stability. Gloss tests confirmed GIC's polishability, where there were significant differences among all the groups. Conclusion It can be concluded that 5% nanoparticle-modified GIC has better color stability and gloss than conventional GIC. Introduction: The diversity of oral epithelial cells offers potential viral infection sites. The lower level of ACE2 inhibitors in women's blood renders them more resistant to coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). In order to determine the effect of COVID-19 vaccination on female hormones, salivary levels of total antibody, immunoglobulin G (IgG), and cortisol were measured in young and elderly women., Methods: Saliva samples from 88 participants were collected and subjected to ELISA for detecting total antibody, IgG, and cortisol., Results: Women who were infected with COVID-19 and who completed two doses of vaccination had more IgG antibodies when compared to the uninfected individuals/single-dose/non-vaccinated individuals. The cortisol levels in post-menopausal women were higher than those in women with normal menstrual cycles, and the difference was statistically significant (P-value 0.00). The increased cortisol levels were well correlated with increased levels of IgG antibodies which was statistically significant (Spearman rho P value 0.00) Conclusions: COVID variants will continue to mutate and evolve as long as the epidemic persists. Background Wound infections caused by pathogens present a considerable global health challenge, resulting in extended healing durations, elevated healthcare expenses, and potential fatalities. Conventional approaches to managing wound pathogens have limitations such as antibiotic resistance, toxicity and allergic reactions. Consequently, there is a rising interest in exploring alternative strategies for preventing and treating wound infections. Titanium dioxide nanoparticles (TiO 2 NPs) have gained attention for their potential in wound healing, attributed to their distinctive properties, including antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory capabilities. Methods TiO 2 NPs synthesized through Euphorbia tirucalli were examined for their antibacterial potential against wound pathogens, using the Kirby-Bauer agar-well diffusion method and time-kill curve assay. Furthermore, the cytotoxic effect of the synthesized nanoparticles was evaluated through a brine shrimp lethality assay. Results Green-synthesized TiO2NPs demonstrated potent antimicrobial activity against tested wound pathogens, displaying a zone of inhibition against Pseudomonas aeruginosa (11 mm) and Escherichia coli (10 mm) at the highest concentration of 100 μg/mL. In the time-kill curve assay, the prepared TiO 2 NPs showed significant bactericidal activity against Pseudomonas aeruginosa followed by Escherichia coli . In the brine shrimp lethality assay, at the lowest concentration of 5 μg/mL of the prepared nanoparticles, 100% of the nauplii remained alive after 48 hours. Conclusion The results indicate that TiO 2 NPs synthesized using Euphorbia tirucalli extract exhibit potent antimicrobial activity against the tested wound pathogens. Introduction Nanotechnology holds considerable importance in biomedical and dental applications. Nanoparticles synthesized using green synthesis methods with herbal formulations offer various benefits to humans. Zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnONPs), being semiconductors, exhibit potent antibacterial properties. Notably, treatments utilizing lemongrass and mint ensure potentially lower toxicity and antibacterial qualities for oral infections. The goal of the study is to prepare a mouthwash mediated by ZnONPs and assess its cytotoxic potential and antibacterial efficacy. Materials and methods A lemongrass and mint formulation was used in the synthesis of ZnONPs, and the mouthwash was prepared using the synthesized nanoparticles. The produced ZnONPs were tested for their antimicrobial activity using agar well diffusion technique against oral pathogens, and the ZnONPs-mediated mouthwash was evaluated for its cytotoxic effect using the brine shrimp lethality assay and compared to commercial mouthwash.  Results The green-synthesized ZnONPs were initially confirmed using a UV-visible spectrophotometer and exhibited a maximum peak at 362 nm. The antimicrobial activity was tested for the synthesized ZnONPs against oral pathogens, which showed a maximum zone of inhibition of 22 mm in  Enterococcus faecalis  and 23 mm in  Candida albicans , as estimated by the agar well diffusion technique. Additionally, ZnONPs-based herbal mouthwash demonstrated lower cytotoxicity than the commercial mouthwash in the brine shrimp lethality assay. Conclusion In the current study, lemongrass and mint-mediated ZnONPs demonstrated an effective antibacterial activity against E. faecalis and antifungal activity against C. albicans . Furthermore, the cytotoxic effect tested using the brine shrimp lethality assay for ZnONPs-mediated mouthwash demonstrated lower toxicity as compared to the commercial mouthwash. Background This study deals with the antimicrobial efficacy of zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnONPs) synthesized through green methods employing extracts from Ocimum tenuiflorum and Ocimum gratissimum  and assessed for their antimicrobial properties against a range of oral pathogens. Methods Zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnONPs) were synthesized using extracts from Ocimum tenuiflorum  and Ocimum gratissimum  through a green synthesis approach. Antimicrobial activity was determined using the agar-well diffusion assay to evaluate the consistency of inhibition zones against oral pathogens. Variations in sensitivity were assessed through the time-kill curve assay, quantifying the response of oral pathogens to zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnONPs) exposure over time. Results The agar-well diffusion assay revealed uniform 9-mm zones of inhibition against all oral pathogens, signifying consistent antimicrobial activity of zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnONPs). In the time-kill curve assay, Candida albicans exhibited the highest sensitivity, followed by Streptococcus mutans and Staphylococcus aureus. Enterococcus faecalis and Lactobacillus species  displayed lower sensitivity, suggesting potential selectivity. Discussion The observed variation in sensitivity implies the potential selectivity of zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnONPs) against specific oral pathogens, which may have significant implications for oral health applications. These findings underscore the versatility of green-synthesized zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnONPs) as promising antimicrobial agents, particularly for oral health applications. Conclusion This study provides promising results for the antimicrobial potential of zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnONPs) synthesized using Ocimum tenuiflorum and Ocimum gratissimum .
