Abstract

AbstractPotato virus Y (PVY) is the reason for significant losses in the potato crop yearly. The recent technologies in molecular biology have given insights on possibilities for control of viral infections at epigenetic level. In the present study, we obtained a DNA template complementary to a key sequence at the NIbgenetic region of PVY. Potato leaves were inoculated with dsRNAs and siRNAs complementary to NIb48 h before inoculation with PVY strain N/NTN. The treated plants did not develop any signs of disease. Double antibody sandwich еnzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (DAS-ELISA) of the plants treated with Nib-dsRNAs showed optical density values commensurate to the cut-off value. The Nib-siRNAs obtained in this study were twice as effective, with DAS-ELISA values which were below the cut-off and similar to the values of the healthy plants. Inducing posttranscriptional gene silencing in crops presents a promising utility for control of virus diseases and for prevention of crop losses, being non-inheritable, non-toxic and adaptable to a specific crop.

In this paper, we have applied a recently developed complex-domain hyperspectral denoiser for the object recognition task, which is performed by the correlation analysis of investigated objects��� spectra with the fingerprint spectra from the same object. Abstract

From its inception holography has proven an extremely productive and attractive area of research. While specific technical applications give rise to 'hot topics', and three-dimensional (3D) visualisation comes in and out of fashion, the core principals involved continue to lead to exciting innovations in a wide range of areas. We humbly submit that it is impossible, in any journal document of this type, to fully reflect current and potential activity; however, our valiant contributors have produced a series of documents that go no small way to neatly capture progress across a wide range of core activities. As editors we have attempted to spread our net wide in order to illustrate the breadth of international activity. In relation to this we believe we have been at least partially successful.

184. New record of the wood-associated sea star Caymanostella, with notes on the phylogenetic position of the family Caymanostellidae (Asteroidea).

Abstract

In 2016, three specimens of Caymanostella were collected from the Kuril-Kamchatka Trench area at depths of 5101–5134 m. Comparative morphological analysis revealed that the new specimens are similar to Caymanostella spinimarginata , the most geographically distant species (Atlantic Ocean). The new specimens were identified as C. cf. spinimarginata. Multilocus genetic data were obtained for the family Caymanostellidae for the first time in this study. Molecular evidence based on the analyses of three mitochondrial and two nuclear markers recovers the family Caymanostellidae as a sister-taxon to Ophidiasteridae (order Valvatida). Phylogenetic data indicate that morphological features, which were previously used to imply asterinid, xyloplacid or korethrasterid affinities for the family Caymanostellidae, emerged independently. It is suggested that the family Caymanostellidae should be placed within the order Valvatida. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
