The article reports on the registration of Atlas bmr-12 forage sorghum developed jointly by the United States Department of Agriculture, Agricultural Research Division, Institute of Agriculture and Natural Resources of the University of Nebraska. Atlas was developed by crossing the Atlas to the brown midrib source F220 that was facilitated by the use of the nuclear male-sterility gene. Fertility in A1 cytoplasmic male-sterile lines under greenhouse condition did not restore in Atlas bmr-12. Through Atlas bmr-12 the digestibility-enhancing brown midrib gene bmr-12 makes available in a current utilized self-pollinated forage sorghum cultivar with its adaptation and performance.
