- Abstract
In the last years, a lot of progress has been made in trapping and cooling of atomic ions. Very recently, trapping and cooling to the mK regime has been extended to molecular ions in well defined internal states [1,2], opening a new window for high precision spectroscopy of molecular species. In these experiments, the detection of the quantum state of 14N2+ molecular ions was done by laser-induced charge transfer with Ar, an inherently destructive process. Here, we propose a fast, efficient and accurate spectroscopic method for molecular ions that imple- ments quantum logic schemes between an atomic ion and the molecular ion of interest. Our proposal relies on a hybrid manipulation of the system, using optical forces for the atomic ion, and either opti- cal forces or magnetic field gradients for the molecular ion. The gate operates in times ranging from 10 ¿s to 1 ms, and enables a number of applications. The most immediate one is the determination of magnetic moments or Zeeman shifts of ions such as N2+ or O2+, for spectroscopic purposes, much in the line of the experiments by Schmidt and coworkers [3]. In this way, we set a starting point towards novel methods of high-precision spectroscopy of molecules and molecular ions of interest in a variety of fields, from astrophysics to physical chemistry to metrology. An optimal procedure for obtaining spherically averaged potentials for the interaction between two linear centrosymmetric molecules (Koide and Kihara, Chem Phys 1974, 5, 34) is extended here for the calculation of the leading anisotropy term of the interaction. It is found that by computing the potential just at nine specific relative orientations of the monomers, the main anisotropy term of the spherical harmonic expansion can be calculated exactly provided that the expansion does not involve more than the first 14 terms. The approach also serves to investigate, in an affordable manner, the dependence of the interaction potential on the intramolecular degrees of freedom, and, in this way, to go beyond the commonly used rigid rotor approximation. Application has been performed for the [O2(3Σg -)]2 dimer by means of high-level ab initio calculations (RCCSD(T) method), and results are compared with a previous accurate rigid rotor potential energy surface. It is found that both the present isotropic and main anisotropy terms are very reliable and that the effect of the corrected vibrationally averaged potential is of about 1%. In addition, the dependence of the intermolecular potentials with the intramolecular vibrational modes is analyzed for the different geometries studied. The treatment can be quite useful in a realistic description of the main features of intermolecular interactions in more complex systems. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.

161. Molecular oxygen tetramer (O2)4: Intermolecular interactions and implications for the ε solid phase

- Abstract
Recent data have determined that the structure of the high-pressure ε phase of solid oxygen consists of clusters composed of four O2 molecules. This finding has opened the question about the nature of the intermolecular interactions within the molecular oxygen tetramer. We use multiconfigurational ab initio calculations to obtain an adequate characterization of the ground singlet state of (O2)4, which is compatible with the nonmagnetic character of the ε phase. In contrast to previous suggestions implying covalent bonding, we show that (O 2)4 is a van der Waals-like cluster where exchange interactions preferentially stabilize the singlet state. Nevertheless, as the cluster shrinks, there is an extra stabilization due to many-body interactions, i.e., an incipient chemical bonding that just yields a softening of the repulsive wall. We show that these findings can be used to model the intra- and intercluster distances of ε-O2 observed in the lower-pressure range and are consistent with inelastic x-ray measurements of O2 K-edge excitations. © 2011 American Physical Society., funding by MICINN (Spain, FIS2010-22064- C02-02). 174. Rotational relaxation in molecular hydrogen and deuterium: Theory versus acoustic experiments

- Abstract
An explicit formulation of the rotational relaxation time in terms of state-to-state rate coefficients associated to inelastic collisions is reported. The state-to-state rates needed for the detailed interpretation of relaxation in H2 and D2, including isotopic variant mixtures, have been calculated by solving the close-coupling Schrödinger equations using the H2–H2 potential energy surface by Diep and Johnson [J. Chem. Phys. 112, 4465 (2000)]. Relaxation related quantities (rotational effective cross section, bulk viscosity, relaxation time, and collision number) calculated from first principles agree reasonably well with acoustic absorption experimental data on H2 and D2 between 30 and 293 K. This result confirms at once the proposed formulation, and the validation of the H2–H2 potential energy surface employed, since no approximations have been introduced in the dynamics. Accordingly, the state-to-state rates derived from Diep and Johnson potential energy surface appear to be overestimated by up to 10% for H2, and up to 30% for D2 at T = 300 K, showing a better agreement at lower temperatures. © 2014 AIP Publishing LLC.

De què està fet l’univers? Quines són les rajoles bàsiques amb els quals la naturalesa construeix tot el que ens envolta? La resposta a aquestes preguntes és un dels objectius fonamentals de la física teòrica i serà el tema del present article. Hi farem servir la teoria del Model Estàndard per a estudiar les partícules elementals, els components bàsics de la matèria. Aquesta teoria explica les interaccions entre les partícules elementals amb una gran precisió, no obstant açò perquè siga una teoria consistent demana l’existència del bosó de Higgs, una partícula elemental que explicaria l’origen de la massa de les partícules elementals. Recentment s’ha observat una nova partícula en el Large Hadron Collider (LHC) amb propietats similars al bosó de Higgs, i si finalment s’identificara com a bosó de Higgs, tindríem l’última peça del puzle del Model Estàndard., ¿De qué está hecho el universo? ¿Cuáles son los ladrillos básicos con los que la naturaleza construye todo lo que nos rodea? La respuesta a estas preguntas es uno de los objetivos fundamentales de la física teórica y será también el de este trabajo. En este trabajo estudiaremos a través del Modelo Estándar las partículas elementales, los componentes básicos de la materia. Esta teoría explica las interacciones entre las partículas elementales con una precisión asombrosa, sin embargo para que sea consistente requiere de la existencia del bosón de Higgs, una partícula elemental que explicaría el origen de la masa de las partículas elementales. Recientemente se ha observado una nueva partícula en el Large Hadron Collider (LHC) con propiedades similares al bosón de Higgs, si finalmente se concluyera que se trata del bosón de Higgs tendríamos la última pieza del puzzle del Modelo Estándar., What is the universe made of? What are the basic builiding blocks that nature uses to construct everything around us? The answer to this question is one of the main goals of theoretical physics and it will be topic of our discussion. In this paper we will use the Standard Model to study the elementary particles, i.e. the basic components of matter. This theory succesfully explains the interaction between elementary particles, but it requires the Higgs boson to be consistent; a particle that would elucidate the origin of the mass of elementary particles. Recently, a new particle has been observed at Large Hadron Collider (LHC) with similar properties to the Higgs boson, and if it is finally identified as the Higgs boson we would have the last piece of the Standard Model’s puzzle.

We propose a fast and nondestructive spectroscopic method for single molecular ions that implements quantum logic schemes between an atomic ion and the molecular ion of interest. Our proposal relies on a hybrid coherent manipulation of the two-ion system, using optical or magnetic forces depending on the types of molecular levels to be addressed (e.g., Zeeman, rotational, vibrational or electronic degrees of freedom). The method is especially suited for the nondestructive precision spectroscopy of single molecular ions and sets a starting point for new hybrid quantum computation schemes that combine molecular and atomic ions, covering the measurement and entangling steps. © 2012 American Physical Society.

181. Effect of anisotropy on the glory structure of molecule-molecule scattering cross sections

- Abstract
Total (elastic + rotationally inelastic) integral cross sections are computed for O 2( 3Σg-)-O 2( 3Σg-) using a recent ab initio potential energy surface. The sampled velocity range allows us a thorough comparison of the glory interference pattern observed in molecular beam experiments. The computed cross sections are about 10% smaller than the measured ones, however, a remarkable agreement in the velocity positions of the glory extrema is achieved. By comparing with models where the anisotropy of the interaction is reduced or removed, it is found that the glory pattern is very sensitive to the anisotropy, especially the positions of the glory extrema. © 2011 Elsevier B.V. 182. Ultracold O2 O2 collisions in a magnetic field: On the role of the potential energy surface

- Abstract
The collision dynamics of 17O2(3g-) +17O2(3g-) in the presence of a magnetic field is studied within the close-coupling formalism in the range between 10 nK and 50mK. A recent global ab initio potential energy surface (PES) is employed and its effect on the dynamics is analyzed and compared with previous calculations where an experimentally derived PES was used [T. V. Tscherbul, New J. Phys 134, 055021 (2009)]. Compared to the results using the older PES, magnetic-field dependence of the low-field-seeking state in the ultracold regime is characterized by a very large background scattering length, abg, and cross sections exhibit broader and more pronounced Feshbach resonances. The marked resonance structure is somewhat surprising considering the influence of inelastic scattering but it can be explained by resorting to the analytical van der Waals theory, where the short-range amplitude of the entrance channel wavefunction is enhanced by the large abg. This strong sensitivity to the short range of the ab initio PES persists up to relatively high energies (10mK). After this study and despite quantitative predictions are very difficult, it can be concluded that the ratio between elastic and spin relaxation scattering is generally small, except for magnetic fields which are either low or close to an asymmetric Fano-type resonance. Some general trends found here, such as a large density of quasibound states and a propensity toward large scattering lengths, could be also characteristic of other anisotropic molecule-molecule systems. © 2011 American Institute of Physics.

We present a formalism based upon dynamic programming(DP), to characterize light propagation in particular GRIN(gradient index) media by analyzing ray trajectories associated with skew-type rays. We study the conditions for the formation of periodic trajectories and stability of the system. We perform a comparative study with the classical formalism based on the Hamilton-Jacobi equation. The DP formalism allows representation in phase (momentum) space. © 2009 IOP Publishing Ltd.

La presente tesis tiene por objetivo analizar la atribución que hacen los psicoterapeutas sobre los factores responsables de la cura en el proceso psicoterapéutico, en el sentido de averiguar si tal responsabilidad atribuida recae sobre las variables específicas de la psicoterapia (en especial, el enfoque y las técnicas utilizadas) o sobre los denominados factores comunes (variables del paciente, del terapeuta y de la relación terapeuta-paciente). Con este objetivo, y habiendo realizado previamente una amplia revisión de la investigación en psicoterapia, se realiza un amplio análisis sobre las respuestas de una población de psicoterapeutas a un cuestionario creado ad hoc, con el fin de comprobar hasta qué punto las conclusiones a las que ha llegado la investigación de resultados y procesos hasta la fecha (a saber: la psicoterapia ha demostrado ser efectiva: los distintos modelos psicoterapéuticos son similarmente efectivos; la causa de esta equiparable efectividad se debe a lo que tienen en común las psicoterapias y no a lo que las hacen distintas, estos es, a los factores comunes que comparten más que a las variables específicas que las diferencian) han servido para modificar, o no, la opinión generalizada entre los psicoterapeutas de que el principal factor responsable de la cura se debe fundamentalmente a la técnica empleada, entendiéndola como variable específica. Entre las principales conclusiones a las que se llega, cabe destacar el hecho de que no se puede inferior un posicionamiento claro por parte de los terapeutas hacia los factores específicos o comunes como los principales responsables del cambio terapéutico. Asimismo, consideran, mayoritaria y significativamente, que los distintos modelos psicoterapéuticos no tienen una efectividad similar. Aparecen así discrepancias entre las conclusiones a las que se ha llegado desde la investigación en psicoterapia y lo manifestado por los terapeutas estudiados. An optimal procedure for obtaining spherically averaged potentials for the interaction between two linear centrosymmetric molecules (Koide and Kihara, Chem Phys 1974, 5, 34) is extended here for the calculation of the leading anisotropy term of the interaction. It is found that by computing the potential just at nine specific relative orientations of the monomers, the main anisotropy term of the spherical harmonic expansion can be calculated exactly provided that the expansion does not involve more than the first 14 terms. The approach also serves to investigate, in an affordable manner, the dependence of the interaction potential on the intramolecular degrees of freedom, and, in this way, to go beyond the commonly used rigid rotor approximation. Application has been performed for the [O(Σ)] dimer by means of high-level ab initio calculations (RCCSD(T) method), and results are compared with a previous accurate rigid rotor potential energy surface. It is found that both the present isotropic and main anisotropy terms are very reliable and that the effect of the corrected vibrationally averaged potential is of about 1%. In addition, the dependence of the intermolecular potentials with the intramolecular vibrational modes is analyzed for the different geometries studied. The treatment can be quite useful in a realistic description of the main features of intermolecular interactions in more complex systems. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The three‐body recombination reaction, or ternary association, is a termolecular reaction leading to a molecule after a three‐body encounter that plays a vital role in many relevant scenarios in chemical physics. Here, we introduce the Python 3‐Body Recombination program, which is dedicated to the computation of atomic three‐body recombination rate coefficients. The software is based on a classical trajectory approach in hyperspherical coordinates after mapping the three‐body problem as a single particle in a higher‐dimensional space. This theoretical approach is fully general and applicable to any ion‐atom‐atom or atom‐atom‐atom three‐body process. The predictive power of the methodology has been tested in several different experimental scenarios, reaching a good description of every system. The code structure is presented alongside examples and tests to ensure the software's capacity. In addition, the performance of the software after parallelization is shown. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This work explores classical capture models for few-body systems via a Monte Carlo method in hyperspherical coordinates. In particular, we focus on van der Waals and charged-induced dipole interactions. As a result, we notice that, independently of the number of particles and interparticle interaction, the capture hyperradial distribution function follows a Fréchet distribution, a special type of the generalized extreme value distribution. Besides, we elaborate on the fundamentals of such universal feature using the general extreme value theory, thus, establishing a connection between extreme value theory and few-body physics. We present the database of spectroscopic constants of diatomic molecules (DSCDM), a website dedicated to the spectroscopic constants of ground and excited states of diatomics (https://dscdm.physics.stonybrook.edu). The database can be improved based on community feedback: the community as contributors may upload new data. Additionally, it counts on an Application Programming Interface (API) for molecular spectroscopy data retrieval to make the search process more efficient. On the other hand, the website presents a machine learning predictor of spectroscopic constants based on atomic properties and a new plotting tool to study the statistical distribution of spectroscopic constants. 200. Factores atribucionales de la efectividad psicoterapéutica: variables especificas versus factores comunes

La presente tesis tiene por objetivo analizar la atribución que hacen los psicoterapeutas sobre los factores responsables de la cura en el proceso psicoterapéutico, en el sentido de averiguar si tal responsabilidad atribuida recae sobre las variables específicas de la psicoterapia (en especial, el enfoque y las técnicas utilizadas) o sobre los denominados factores comunes (variables del paciente, del terapeuta y de la relación terapeuta-paciente). Con este objetivo, y habiendo realizado previamente una amplia revisión de la investigación en psicoterapia, se realiza un amplio análisis sobre las respuestas de una población de psicoterapeutas a un cuestionario creado ad hoc, con el fin de comprobar hasta qué punto las conclusiones a las que ha llegado la investigación de resultados y procesos hasta la fecha (a saber: la psicoterapia ha demostrado ser efectiva: los distintos modelos psicoterapéuticos son similarmente efectivos; la causa de esta equiparable efectividad se debe a lo que tienen en común las psicoterapias y no a lo que las hacen distintas, estos es, a los factores comunes que comparten más que a las variables específicas que las diferencian) han servido para modificar, o no, la opinión generalizada entre los psicoterapeutas de que el principal factor responsable de la cura se debe fundamentalmente a la técnica empleada, entendiéndola como variable específica. Entre las principales conclusiones a las que se llega, cabe destacar el hecho de que no se puede inferior un posicionamiento claro por parte de los terapeutas hacia los factores específicos o comunes como los principales responsables del cambio terapéutico. Asimismo, consideran, mayoritaria y significativamente, que los distintos modelos psicoterapéuticos no tienen una efectividad similar. Aparecen así discrepancias entre las conclusiones a las que se ha llegado desde la investigación en psicoterapia y lo manifestado por los terapeutas estudiados. Se proponen vías de actuación y líneas de investigación a seguir.
