163. New Results with the XIS Onboard Suzaku.

Abstract

We present new results from the Suzaku XIS observations of two nearby clusters of galaxies, the Centaurus cluster and the Fornax cluster. For the Centaurus cluster, we investigated the Doppler shift of the iron K lines to constrain the bulk velocity of the intracluster medium (ICM) in its core region. We found that there is no significant velocity gradient within the calibration uncertainty: the 90% upper limit on the line-of-sight velocity difference is △ v<1400 km s-1, providing a tighter constraint than the previous observations. Regarding the Fornax cluster, we studied metal abundances of the ICM out to a large radius. K-lines of O and Mg were clearly resolved and the abundance profiles of O, Mg, Si, S and Fe were derived to high accuracy. The central γ <4' region shows the Fe, Si, and S abundances to be ∼ 1 solar, while the Fe and Si abundances drop to about 0.5 solar in the outer region. O/Fe and Mg/Fe are about 0.4-0.5 and 0.7 in unit of the solar ratio, respectively, and do not show any significant radial gradient. Implications of the results on each cluster are briefly discussed. Abstract

Context. We present the results of Suzaku observations of a massive galaxy cluster A2744, which is an active merger at z = 0.308. Aims. By using long X-ray observations of A2744, we aim to understand the growth of the cluster and the gas heating process through mass accretion along the surrounding filaments. Methods. We analyzed data from two-pointed Suzaku observations of A2744 to derive the temperature distribution out to the virial radius in three different directions. We also performed a deprojection analysis to study radial profiles of gas temperature, density, and entropy and compared the X-ray results with multiwavelength data to investigate correlations with the surface density of galaxies and with radio relics. Results. The gas temperature was measured out to the virial radius r200 in the north-eastern region and to about 1.5r200 in the northwestern and southern regions. The radial profile of the gas temperature is rather flat and the temperature is very high (even near r200), which makes it comparable to the mean temperature of this cluster (kT = 9 keV). These characteristics have not been reported in any other cluster. We find a hint of temperature jump in the north-eastern region whose location coincides with a large radio relic, indicating that the cluster experienced gas heating because of merger or mass accretion onto the main cluster. The temperature distribution is anisotropic and shows no clear positive correlation with the galaxy density, which suggests an inhomogeneous mass structure and a complex merger history in A2744. Abstract

Aims. We present the results of Suzaku observations of a nearby galaxy cluster, A76 at z = 0.0395. This cluster is characterized by extremely low X-ray surface brightness and is hereafter referred to as the LSB cluster. We investigate the nature and thermodynamic evolution of the LSB cluster by studying the physical properties of the hot intracluster medium in A76. Methods. We conducted two-pointed Suzaku observations of A76 and examined the global gas properties of the cluster by XIS spectral analysis. We also performed deprojection analysis of annular spectra and derived radial profiles of gas temperature, density, and entropy out to approximately 850 kpc (∼0.6r200) in A76 East and 560 kpc (∼0.4r200) in A76West. Results. The measured global temperature and metal abundance are approximately 3.3 keV and 0.24 solar, respectively. From the deprojection analysis, the entropy profile is found to be flat with respect to radius. The entropy within the central region (r < 0.2r200) is exceptionally high (∼400 keVcm2), a phenomenon that is not readily explained by either gravitational heating or preheating. The X-ray morphology is clumped and irregular, and the electron density is extremely low (10-4-10-3 cm-3) for the observed high temperature, suggesting that A76 is in the early phase of cluster formation and that the gas compression due to gravitational potential confinement is lagging behind the gas heating. Abstract

MoS2-xOx films were prepared on the rollers of a cross-roller bearing by the radio-frequency magnetron-sputtering method. Outgassing properties of these rollers at various temperatures were measured by the thermal-desorption method. For film with oxygen content of 2.8 at. %, the unique gases of M/e=32 (S+) and 34 (H2S+) were detected at about 370 and 420 K, respectively. These gases were not detected until 500 K after baking at 393 K for 24 h. In order to understand the outgassing mechanism of these gases, the chemical structure of film surface was analyzed by x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy before and after the thermal-desorption spectroscopy (TDS) measurement. An increase of MoO2 and a decrease of free sulfur in the film were confirmed after the TDS measurement. This result suggests that MoO2, S, and H2S are produced by the chemical reaction between adsorption water and MoS2. In addition, it has been found that the detection temperature and peak temperature of H2S become high with the increase in the oxygen content in the film. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

199. A Suzaku Observation of the Cluster of Galaxies A1060.

Abstract

We carried out observations of the central and 20' east offset regions of the cluster of galaxies Abell 1060 with Suzaku. Spatially resolved X-ray spectral=analysis has revealed temperature and abundance profiles of Abell 1060 out to 27'0≃380 h−170 kpc, which corresponded to ∼0.3 γvir. The temperature decrease of the intra cluster medium from 3.4 keV at the center to 2.2 keV in the outskirt region are clearly observed. Si, S and Fe abundances also decrease by more than 50% from the center to the outer parts, while Mg shows a fairly constant abundance of ∼ 0.7 solar within γ < 17'. O shows a lower abundance of ∼ 0.3 solar in the central region (γ < 6'), and indicates a similar feature with Mg, however it is sensitive to the estimated contribution of the Galactic components at the outer annuli (γ > 13').Results on temperature and abundances of Si, S, and Fe are consistent with those derived by XMM-Newton atγ < 13' The formation and metal enrichment of the cluster are discussed based on implications of our results. Abstract

We present results from Chandra and XMM-Newton observations of the bright group of galaxies HCG 62. The two cavities in the central region show no significant change of temperature compared with that in the surrounding region. We studied radial distributions of temperature and metal abundance. Two temperatures are required in the inner γ <2' (35 kpc) region, and a sharp drop of temperature is seen at γ ∼ 5' where the gas may not be in hydrostatic equilibrium. The metal distribution suggests that iron and silicon are produced by type Ia supernova in the central galaxy, while galactic winds by type II supernova have caused a wider distribution of oxygen. The pressure due to electrons and magnetic fields is too low to displace the group hot gas, and other pressure contributions from high energy protons or by galaxy-scale dynamical motions are nearly 700 times higher.
