Delegates from the Tuberculosis Committee of the Portuguese Pulmonology Society, the Portuguese Rheumatology Society, the Portuguese Dermatology and Venereology Society and the Portuguese Gastroenterology Society, have revised and updated, in 2012, their guidelines for the diagnosis and treatment of latent tuberculosis infection and active tuberculosis in patients that are candidates for therapy with biologic drugs. In order to identify perceived barriers to tuberculosis screening among patients candidate to anti-TNF treatment, we performed a cross-sectional survey including rheumatologists, gastroenterologists and dermatologists who prescribed anti-TNF agents, identified by the respective Scientific Societies, throughout Portugal. Ninety-five physicians (85 specialist and 10 trainees with more than 3 years of practice) participated in the survey, including 42 rheumatologists (response rate 28%), 32 dermatologists (12% response) and 21 gastroenterologists (4% response). No information was collected on non-respondents. This study showed that most of the participants were aware of tuberculosis risk and that they screened patients for tuberculosis following guidelines.

Several studies on cytogenetic characterisation of passion flowers are helpful to elucidate doubts about taxa relationships, delimitation and classification into more coherent groups based on karyomorphological data.Molecular and conventional cytogenetic techniques were applied to three Passiflora species with red flowers, P. coccinea, P. vitifolia and P. tholozanii, for species karyotype relationships. Additionally, for descriptive morphology, were used flowers, leaves and seeds.Results describe for the first time the karyomorphological and chromosome number (2n = 18) for P. tholozanii. anova was performed (P < 0.05) and statistical significance for average chromosome size (CV: 16.53%) between species. Genomic in situ hybridisation (GISH) proved relationships between P. coccinea and P. tholozanii, which suggests a common origin, however, we could not identify hybridisation between genomic probes from P. vitifolia in P. tholozanii chromosomes. Among the species analysed, P. tholozanii has great similarity in karyotypic and morphology to P. coccinea but not to P. vitifolia.We suggest the inclusion of P. tholozanii in the same subgenus and section as P. coccinea based on the similarity in karyomorphological and morphological traits between the species. Additionally, GISH might indicate a common or hybrid origin of P. tholozanii. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The magnetoelectric materials have been being studied due to the scientific chalenges and the very promissing possibility of applications in electronic devices. BiFeO3 is room temperature single-phase multiferroic material. However there are some issues regarding conductivity and undesired parasitic phases that cause the experimentally reduced electrical polarization and low or no net magnetization in this material. In order to solve these questions we studied the effect of partial replacement of Bi3+ by Nd3+ in the Bi1-xNdxFe0.99Co0.01O3 compositions. X-ray diffraction patterns confirmed single phased rhombohedrally distorted perovskite structure in obtained ceramics. Scanning electron microscopy images reveal that the ceramic grains are almost irregular spheres with a 2 μm in diameter, and samples present equal porosity. With the increasing of the Nd3+ substitution the real part of the dielectric constant increased in almost 10 times but decreases the magnetization. As a consequence, the Bi1-xNdxFe0.99Co0.01O3 ceramics presented an induced magnetoelectric voltage and magnetodielectric effects. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The adaptive value of siluriform barbels in muddy waters dwellers and nocturnal fish is evident and was moreover demonstrated experimentally. The maxillary ones are characterized by their connection to a mobile mechanism, the palatine-maxillary system (PMS), which is constituted by the maxillary, the palatine and more or less specialized ligaments and muscles responsible for their movements. Siluriform sister-groups (Gymnotiformes and Characiformes) do not have barbels at all and do not present any structure prefiguring barbels, particularly the maxillary barbels, which are the only ones present in the most primitive catfishes, the diplomystids. In fact, catfish PMS is based on two basic siluroid synapomorphies: 1) a skeletal uncoupling between the palatine bone and the the rest of the suspensorium; 2) a muscular uncoupling of the adductor arcus palatini, leading to the differentiation of the extensor tentaculi muscle, which is associated with the abduction of the maxillary barbel. So, unless improbably well preserved fossils would be described in the future, a gap will remain between the diplomystids and the gymnotiforms and characiforms. However, departing from the Diplomystidae, it seems possible to follow evolutionary lines leading to more specialized PMS types. Our study focus precisely on the evolution of the PMS among catfish. For each morphological transformation, the way it was realized is hypothetized and the probable adaptive advantage it brings is analysed.

The analysed data were collected at centre-of-mass energies ranging from 196 to 209 GeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 420 pb(-1). No evidence for a signal was found. Upper limits on BR(b'-> bZ) and BR(b'-> bZ) were obtained for b' masses ranging from 96 to 103 GeV/c^2 stop. These limits, together with the theoretical branching ratios predicted by a sequential four generations model, were used to constrain the value of R_CKM=vertical bar V_cb' / V_tb' V_tb vertical bar, where V_cb', V_tb' and V_tb are elements of the extended CKM matrix.

The solitary fibrous tumour is an uncommon neoplasm of mesenchymal origin. It occasionally develops in extra pleural locations, and is very infrequent in the pancreas. A 40-year-old woman had an unsuspected solitary fibrous tumour detected by chance in the body of the pancreas. Detection of the mass occurred with imaging studies. CT and MRI images showed the well-circumscribed benign lesion, with 3 cm on its greatest diameter. Treatment consisted of partial pancreatectomy, and her postoperative recovery was uneventful. El tumor fibroso solitario es una neoplasia poco común, de origen mesenquimal, que ocasionalmente se desarrolla en sitios extrapleurales, y es muy raro en el páncreas. Se presenta el caso de una mujer de 40 años, que presentó un tumor fibroso solitario descubierto por casualidad en el cuerpo del páncreas. La masa se observó con estudios de imagen. La lesión benigna, bien delimitada, con 3 centímetros de diámetro mayor, se descubrió en imágenes de CT y MRI. El tratamiento consistió en pancreatectomía parcial, y su recupe-ración postoperatoria no tuvo complicaciones.

Nowadays, the key to competitive advantage is being able to identify, summarize and categorize data. Currently, organizations should be able to interpret and convert information in a differentiating factor for those who are responsible for decision-making can take advantage of it. The main aim of this paper is to simulate and monitor real clinical data from Hospital Geral Santo Antonio (HGSA) in order to find trends and indicators that can support decision-making. It was made some experiments in ICU arena and in the hospital waiting lists (surgery and appointment). In the experimental phase it was used the open source BI tool Pentaho Suite in order to proceed the Knowledge Discovery (KD) process. O estudo objetivou estimar parâmetros, valores e ganhos genéticos para caracteres de crescimento em progênies de Eucalyptus camaldulensis, no estado de Mato Grosso. O teste de progênies foi instalado sob delineamento de blocos ao acaso com 132 progênies, cinco repetições e três plantas por parcela em linhas simples, no espaçamento 3 m x 2 m no município de Santo Antonio do Leverger, MT. Aos 24 meses de idade, as progênies foram avaliadas quanto aos caracteres: a) diâmetro à altura da base (DAB), em centímetros; b) altura total, em metros; c) sobrevivência. As herdabilidades individuais no sentido restrito para os caracteres estudados podem ser consideradas de média a alta magnitude (0,13 e 0,21) para altura e diâmetro, respectivamente. Para a sobrevivência, as herdabilidades foram praticamente nulas, devido à baixa variabilidade genética existente entre as progênies, evidenciada pela alta taxa de sobrevivência das plantas (96,8%). As correlações fenotípicas e genéticas preditas foram de elevada magnitude para DAB e altura. Existe variação genética entre as progênies para os caracteres de crescimento o que proporciona ganhos genéticos significativos com seleção.

Este trabalho teve dois objetivos. O primeiro foi caracterizar o atual processo de modernização do agronegócio do milho nas regiões Agreste e Centro-Sul de Sergipe. Baseado na intensificação do uso do capital financeiro e tecnologia agronômica, observou-se que este processo apresenta os mesmos elementos caracterizadores da assim chamada modernização conservadora do agronegócio. Esses dois elementos, capital e tecnologia intensiva baseada em cultivos uniformes, têm redesenhado a agricultura nesta região estado, até então baseada em cultivos com tecnologias pouco intensivas, tradicionais, e com baixos rendimentos por unidade de área. No. of bitstreams: 0 Previous issue date: 2010-01-01 Peroxidases enzymes are heme-proteins found in the different organisms livings creature, especially vegetal, present in important physiological paper/biochemist as protection against microorganisms. The soy, one of the most important products for the Brazilian agribusiness, presents in the rind of its seeds (byproduct) where has high activity of peroxidase, called soybean peroxidase, with potential of use in clinical analytical methods. The proposal of the work was to apply the factorial planning for optimization of the conditions extraction of this enzyme, definition of the conditions of kinetic-enzyme assay conditions (pH and temperature), using methodology of reply surface. The data obtained: i) extraction in cetonico power, ii) reactional medium: pH 3,3, volume of the sample contend enzyme 330 μL - 340 μL, hydrogen peroxide 4,2 mmol.L-1150 μL, time of reaction 20 seconds, temperature 50º C, substrate guaiacol 30mmol.L-1300 μL, and 0.1 mol.L-1of NaCl. This chemometric methodology used to definition of the extraction conditions and parameters kinetic assay of soybean peroxidase was very efficient, compared the classical methodology of variations/repetitions (attempt and error). We consider the gluon propagator D(p(2)) at various lattice sizes and spacings in the case of pure SU(3) Yang-Mills gauge theories using the Landau gauge fixing. We discuss a class of fits in the infrared region in order to (in) validate the tree level analytical prediction in terms of the (refined) Gribov-Zwanziger framework. It turns out that an important role is played by the presence of the widely studied dimension two gluon condensate < A(2)>. Including this effect allows to obtain an acceptable fit around 1 to 1.5 GeV, while corroborating the refined Gribov-Zwanziger prediction for the gluon propagator. We also discuss the infinite volume extrapolation, leading to the estimate D(0) = 8.3 +/- 0.5 GeV-2. As a by-product, we can also provide the prediction < g(2)A(2)> approximate to 3 GeV2 obtained at the renormalization scale mu = 10 GeV.

- Abstract
A search for the pair production of fourth generation b'-quarks was performed using data taken by the DELPHI detector at LEP-II. The analysed data were collected at centre-of-mass energies ranging from 196 to 209 GeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 420 pb-1. No evidence for a signal was found. Upper limits on BR(b'→bZ) and BR(b'→cW) were obtained for b' masses ranging from 96 to 103 GeV/c 2. These limits, together with the theoretical branching ratios predicted by a sequential four generations model, were used to constrain the value of RCKM = | Vtb′Vtb/Vcb′|, where V cb′, Vtb′ and Vtb are elements of the extended CKM matrix. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2007.

O experimento foi conduzido Sul do Brasil, com a semeadura direta do azevém (Lolium multiflorum Lam.), trevo branco (Trifolium repens L.), cornichão (Lotus corniculatus L.) e trevo vermelho (Trifolium pratense L.), sobre campo nativo dessecado com Glyfosato. Os tratamentos foram T1 semeadura em linha, adubação metade em linha e metade a lanço; T2 semeadura e adubação em linha; T3 semeadura em linha, adubação a lanço; T4 semeadura e adubação a lanço. As avaliações ocorreram em 1998 e 1999. As maiores produções de matéria seca (MS) e o melhor equilíbrio entre leguminosa e gramínea foram em T1 e T2, sem diferença entre ambos, entretanto diferiram (P < 0,05) de T3 e T4. A distribuição do fertilizante em T1 e T2 assegurou o estabelecimento e a densidade das leguminosas. O P disponível no solo em T1 e T2 na profundidade de 0 a 5 cm foi acima do nível crítico, contribuindo para o melhor desempenho das leguminosas.
