The problem of time series anomaly detection has attracted a lot of attention due to its usefulness in various application domains. However, most of the methods proposed so far used Euclidean distance to deal with this problem. Dynamic Time Warping (DTW) distance is more suitable than Euclidean distance because of its capability in shape-based similarity checking in many practical fields, for example those with multimedia data. In this paper, we propose two efficient anomaly detection methods, EP-Leader-DTW and SEP-Leader-DTW, for static and streaming time series under DTW, respectively. Our methods are based on time series segmentation, subsequence clustering, and anomaly scoring. For segmentation, the major extrema method is used to obtain subsequences. For clustering, we apply Leader algorithm to cluster the subsequences along with a lower bounding technique to accelerate DTW distance computation. Experimental results on several benchmark time series datasets reveal that our method for anomaly detection in static time series under DTW can perform very fast and accurately on large time series datasets. For streaming time series, our method can meet the instantaneous requirement with high accuracy. As a result, our anomaly detection methods are applicable to both static and streaming time series in practice.

Bombyx mori silk fibroin is a fibrous protein whose tunable properties and biocompatibility have resulted in its utility in a wide-variety of applications, including as drug delivery vehicles, wound dressings, and tissue engineering scaffolds. Control of protein and cell attachment is vital to the performance of biomaterials, but silk fibroin is mostly hydrophobic and interacts nonspecifically with cells and proteins. Silk functionalised with hydrophilic polymers reduces attachment, but the low number of reactive sites makes achieving a uniform conjugation a persistent challenge. This work presents a new approach to grow brush-like polymers from the surface of degradable silk films, where the films were enriched with hydroxyl groups, functionalised with an initiator, and finally reacted with acrylate monomers using atom transfer radical polymerisation. Two different routes to hydroxyl enrichment were investigated, one involving reaction with ethylene oxide (EO) and the other using a two-step photo-catalysed oxidation reaction. Both routes increased surface hydrophilicity, and hydrophilic monomers containing either uncharged (poly(ethylene glycol), PEG) pendant groups or zwitterionic pendant groups were polymerised from the surfaces. The initial processing of the films to induce beta sheet structures was found to impact the success of the polymerizations. Compared to the EO modified or unmodified silk surfaces, the oxidation reaction resulted in more polymer conjugation and the surfaces appear more uniform. Mesenchymal stem cell and protein attachment were the lowest on polymers grown from oxidised surfaces. PEG-containing brush-like polymers displayed lower protein attachment than surfaces conjugated with PEG using a previously reported "grafting to" method, but polymers containing zwitterionic side chains displayed both the lowest contact angles and the lowest cell and protein attachment. This finding may arise from the interactions of the zwitterionic pendant groups through their permanent dipoles and is an important finding because PEG is susceptible to oxidative damage that can reduce efficacy over time. These modified silk materials with lower cell and protein attachments are envisioned to find utility when enhanced diffusion around surfaces is required, such as in drug delivery implants.

Water sources are contaminated with nutrients such as nitrogen, which can cause eutrophication, resulting in degradation of the aquatic environment and severe effects on aquatic ecosystems. In this study, biochar derived from spent coffee grounds (CGB) was prepared and investigated for ammonium (NH4+) adsorption in water at different pH, NH4+ concentrations, and CGB dosage conditions. The most suitable conditions for NH4+ adsorption by CGB were found at pH of 7, initial NH4+ concentration of 40 mg L−1, and CGB dosage of 2 g L−1. Data of NH4+ adsorption was highly compatible with the Langmuir isotherm with an R2 of 0.976. Compared with biochars prepared from other agricultural by-products, CGB exhibited a high NH4+ adsorption capacity (Qmax = 51.52 mg g−1). Pseudo-second-order model fitted well the adsorption data. The use of spent coffee grounds to prepare NH4+ adsorbent biochar not only saves the cost of solid waste treatment but also creates materials to adsorb pollutants in the water and is a source of additional nutrients for crops or soil improvement.

Caodaism, which appeared in Việt Nam in the 1920s, has been widely studied by foreign historians. But its very early breaking up into many branches and the secret of practising its esotericism were barriers to a true understanding of this new religion.Most foreign historians have focused on what became the Caodaism of Tây Ninh, the only branch to own an army and to be involved in the war of independence against the French colonizer and against the Vietnamese communism. This Caodaism has become, under the pen of many, "the" Caodaism. While there are still many other branches whose activities are purely religious.The objective of this study is to make Caodaism better known, to bring it out of interpretations that are far from reality. It is the result of the research of a practising Caodaist from a family of Caodaists, therefore someone who has been immersed in this religion since childhood., Le caodaïsme apparu au Việt Nam dans les années 1920 a beaucoup été étudié par les historiens étrangers. Mais son éclatement très tôt en de nombreuses branches et le secret de la pratique de son ésotérisme ont été des barrages pour une vraie compréhension de cette nouvelle religion. La plupart des historiens étrangers s’est concentrée sur ce qui est devenu le caodaïsme de Tây Ninh, la seule branche à posséder une armée et à s’être impliquée dans la guerre d’indépendance contre le colonisateur français et celle contre le communisme vietnamien. Ce caodaisme est devenu sous la plume de beaucoup « le » caodaïsme. Alors qu’existent toujours de nombreuses autres branches dont les activités sont purement religieuses.Cette étude a pour objectif de faire mieux connaitre le caodaïsme, le faire sortir des interprétations qui sont loin de la réalité. Elle est le fruit des recherches d’un caodaïste pratiquant issu d’une famille de caodaïstes, donc de quelqu’un qui est baigné dans cette religion depuis son enfance.

Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is the most frequent type of primary liver cancer and is the leading cause of cancer mortality in Vietnam. Our study aims to discover the partial extracts with the potential cytotoxic effects on HCC cells from the different parts of 24 Vietnamese medicinal plants traditionally used in liver cancer treatment. Out of 52 crude methanol extracts, we found that Luvunga scandens leaves, Hyptis suaveolens roots, and Solanum torvum leaves showed the notable cytotoxic effects against HCC cells. After that, we carried out partial extract of the three methanol extracts with ethyl acetate, water, n-hexane, and 90% methanol. The cytotoxic activity on Huh-7 HCC cells, antioxidant capacity, and total flavonoids content (TFC) of each partial extraction were determined. Methanol, ethyl acetate, and 90% methanol extracts showed moderate to strong cytotoxicity activity against Huh-7 HCC cells. Notably, the ethyl acetate and 90% methanol extract from H. suaveolens roots with high TFC values and strong antioxidant capacity could be promising sources of novel therapeutic modalities for HCC treatment. For the leaves of L. scandens and S. torvum, the ethyl acetate extract showed high TFC value and promising anti-HCC activity, therefore recommended further studies.

Five focused libraries of pyrimidine-based dynamin GTPase inhibitors, in total 69 compounds were synthesised, and their dynamin inhibition and broad-spectrum cytotoxicity examined. Dynamin plays a crucial role in mitosis, and as such inhibition of dynamin was expected to broadly correlate with the observed cytotoxicity. The pyrimidines synthesised ranged from mono-substituted to trisubstituted. The highest levels of dynamin inhibition were noted with di- and tri- substituted pyrimidines, especially those with pendent amino alkyl chains. Short chains and simple heterocyclic rings reduced dynamin activity. There were three levels of dynamin activity noted: 1-10, 10-25 and 25-60 μM. Screening of these compounds in a panel of cancer cell lines: SW480 (colon), HT29 (colon), SMA (spontaneous murine astrocytoma), MCF-7 (breast), BE2-C (glioblastoma), SJ-G2 (neuroblastoma), MIA (pancreas), A2780 (ovarian), A431 (skin), H460 (lung), U87 (glioblastoma) and DU145 (prostate) cell lines reveal a good correlation between the observed dynamin inhibition and the observed cytotoxicity. The most active analogues ( 31a , b ) developed returned average GI 50 values of 1.0 and 0.78 μM across the twelve cell lines examined. These active analogues were: N 2 -(3-dimethylaminopropyl)- N 4 -dodecyl-6-methylpyrimidine-2,4-diamine ( 31a ) and N 4 -(3-dimethylaminopropyl)- N 2 -dodecyl-6-methylpyrimidine-2,4-diamine ( 31b ).

Particulate matter (PM) accounts for millions of premature deaths in the human population every year. Due to social and economic inequality, growing human dissatisfaction manifests in waves of strikes and protests all over the world, causing paralysis of institutions, services and circulation of transport. In this study, we aim to investigate air quality in Ecuador during the national protest of 2019, by studying the evolution of PM2.5 (PM ≤ 2.5 µm) concentrations in Ecuador and its capital city Quito using ground based and satellite data. Apart from analyzing the PM2.5 evolution over time to trace the pollution changes, we employ machine learning techniques to estimate these changes relative to the business-as-usual pollution scenario. In addition, we present a chemical analysis of plant samples from an urban park housing the strike. Positive impact on regional air quality was detected for Ecuador, and an overall − 10.75 ± 17.74% reduction of particulate pollution in the capital during the protest. However, barricade burning PM peaks may contribute to a release of harmful heavy metals (tire manufacture components such as Co, Cr, Zn, Al, Fe, Pb, Mg, Ba and Cu), which might be of short- and long-term health concerns.

In this study, biochar derived from spent coffee grounds (SCGB) was used to adsorb norfloxacin (NOR) in water. The biochar properties were interpreted by analysis of the specific surface area, morphology, structure, thermal stability, and functional groups. The impacts of pH, NOR, and ion's present on SCGB performance were examined. The NOR adsorption mode of SCGB is best suited to the Langmuir model (R2 = 0.974) with maximum absorption capacity (69.8 mg g−1). By using a Response Surface Method (RSM), optimal adsorption was also found at pH of 6.26, NOR of 24.69 mg L−1, and SCGB of 1.32 g L−1. Compared with biochars derived from agriculture such as corn stalks, willow branches, potato stem, reed stalks, cauliflower roots, wheat straw, the NOR adsorption capacity of SCGB was 2–30 times higher, but less than 3–4 times for biochars made from Salix mongolica, luffa sponge and polydopamine microspheres. These findings reveal that spent coffee grounds biochar could effectively remove NOR from aqueous solutions. Approaching biochar derived from coffee grounds would be a promising eco-friendly solution because it utilizes solid waste, saves costs, and creates adsorbents to deal with emerging pollutants like antibiotics.

The occurrence of nine phthalic acid esters (PAEs) were determined in indoor dust samples collected from vehicle repair shops, waste processing workshops, and homes in Vietnam. Concentrations of total PAEs ranged from 585 to 153,000 (median 33,400 ng/g), which fall in the lower end of global range. The PAE levels in workplace dust (median 49,100; range 9210–153,000 ng/g) were significantly higher than those in house dust (median 23,700; range 585–83,700 ng/g), indicating waste processing activities as potential PAE sources. The most predominant compound was di-(2-ethyl)hexyl phthalate (DEHP), accounting for 62 ± 18% of total PAEs. Other major compounds were benzyl butyl phthalate (BzBP) (10 ± 12%), di-n-butyl phthalate (DnBP) (9.7 ± 7.7%), di-n-octyl phthalate (DnOP) (7.9 ± 8.1%), and diisobutyl phthalate (DiBP) (6.9 ± 5.0%). Proportions of BzBP and DnBP in some workplace dust samples were markedly greater than in common house dust, suggesting specific emission sources. Daily intake doses of selected PAEs (e.g., DnBP, DiBP, BzBP, and DEHP) through dust ingestion were much lower than reference doses, implying acceptable levels of risk.

Polymer deriving from nature as Chitosan, which is one of the most abundant natural polymers in the world has effectively antibacterial potentiality. However, chitosan is relatively difficult for applications due to its disadvantageous properties. In this article, modifying chitosan (CS) is the grafting copolymerization using monomer n-butyl acrylate (BA) and tert-butyl hydroperoxide (TBHP) as an initiator. This process purposes to attain product having lower glass transition temperature (Tg) than original chitosan causing a wide range of applications but still keeping the capability of being an excellently antibacterial agent. The effects of parameters on synthesizing copolymer were studied by determining the grafting percentage (G%) and grafting efficiency (E%). The results revealed that the highest G = 242% and E = 61% were obtained at the conditions as following: BA/CS = 4 w/w, TBHP/CS = 5 v/w with [TBHP] = 20mM, [CS] = 0.75% w/v in acetic acid 0.6% and reaction temperature 90°C in 6 hours.

Purpose: Retinoblastoma (RB) is a rare childhood malignant disorder caused by the biallelic inactivation of the RB1 gene. Early diagnosis and identification of carriers of heritable mutations in RB1 can improve disease outcome and management. In this study, we present the spectrum of mutations in the RB1 gene in Vietnamese patients with RB. Methods: Tumor RNA from 50 probands with RB, including 12 bilateral and 38 unilateral cases, was extracted. cDNA, after reverse transcription, was sequenced to identify the RNA mutation of the RB1 gene. At the genomic DNA level, mutational analysis of all RB1 exons, exon–intron boundaries, and the promoter region was conducted using PCR and direct sequencing. Multiplex ligation-dependent probe amplification (MLPA) analysis was performed for patients for whom the first two results were negative. For patients for whom either the sequencing or MLPA results were positive for a tumor mutation, patients’ and their parents’ blood DNA was analyzed to determine the germline mutation. Results: Forty-one different kinds of RB1 tumor mutations were identified in 41 probands (82.0%), including 11 of 12 bilateral cases (91.7%) and 30 of 38 unilateral cases (78.9%). The majority of the detected mutations were nonsense (15 different kinds), followed by frameshift (11 kinds), and splice site mutations (nine kinds). Each splice site mutation was confirmed to create a deletion of the corresponding exon with RNA sequencing. The single promoter mutation c.-197G>A was reported previously; however, both missense mutations identified in exon 6 (c.601G>C: p.A201P) and exon 22 (c.2264T>C: p.F755S) were novel. Gross deletions were detected with MLPA in three probands. The detection rate of germline mutations in bilateral and unilateral cases with mutations were 81.8% and 30.0%, respectively. Only one father out of the 20 parents tested was positive for a germline mutation. Conclusions: Mutations in the RB1 gene in Vietnamese patients were heterogeneous and highly prevalent with pathogenic truncated mutations. With advancement in therapeutics, early detection of RB is important for eye salvation.

The application of robot-assisted laparoscopic techniques is new and generates numerous benefits for patients. Here, we summarise the experience of our first series through 52 cases of prostate cancer treated by robot-assisted radical prostatectomy (RARP) in the Department of Urology of Binh Dan Hospital, from December 2016 to September 2017, to study the learning curves of this procedure. In this clinical comparative study, 52 patients diagnosed with prostate cancer (clinical stage T1 to T3) received RARP with and without nerve sparing as well as standard pelvic lymphadenectomy. Patients were divided into 4 groups according to their surgeon (surgeons A, B, C, and D, with 22, 12, 10, and 8 patients, respectively) for comparison. Research variables were cancer stage, pre- and postoperative prostate-specific antigen (PSA) serum levels, Gleason scores, lymph node metastasis, estimated blood loss, surgery time, urinary incontinence, hospital stay, and complications. Background and Rationales. Hypertensive patients with newly diagnosed diabetes are associated with heightened risks for cardiovascular events. Yet endorsement of state-of-the-art guidelines with more stringent goals poses significant challenges in obtaining multifactorial control. This study aimed to illustrate the impact of novel targets on achieving simultaneous control overtime and its association with mortality. Methods. This prospective, observational study involved adult hypertensive patients with newly diagnosed type 2 diabetes mellitus at two university hospitals in Vietnam. The median time of follow-up was 4 years (August 2016–August 2020). The primary outcome was time to all-cause mortality. Results. 246 patients were included with a mean age of 64.5 ± 10.4. 58.5% were females. 64.2% were categorized as high risk. At baseline, ischemic heart disease, dyslipidemia, and chronic kidney disease (CKD) were present in 54.9%, 67.1%, and 41.1% of patients. Renin–angiotensin–aldosterone inhibitor, metformin, and statin were prescribed in 89.8%, 66.3%, and 67.1%. Among three risk factors, LDL-c control was the hardest to achieve, increasing from 5.7% to 8.5%. In contrast, blood pressure control decreased from 56.1% in 2016 to 30.2% in 2020, when the second wave of COVID-19 hit our nation. While contemporary targets resulted in persistently low simultaneous control at 1.2%, significant improvement was observed with conventional criteria (blood pressure 75 years (HR = 2.6) and CKD (HR = 4.9) were associated with increased mortality. Conclusion. These findings demonstrated real-world difficulties in managing hypertension and newly diagnosed diabetes, especially with stringent criteria from novel guidelines. High-risk profile, high mortality, and poor simultaneous control warrant more aggressive cardiorenal protection, focusing more on aging CKD patients with early newly diagnosed diabetes.

Recently temporal supports have been included in the SQL standards, leading to a great bridge between research works and real-world applications. However, showing this bridge in practice needs to be considered more. Such a shortage needs to be resolved due to the fact that time is ubiquitous in every application domain. In this paper, we propose a novel design method to design a bitemporal SQL database from an enhanced-entity-relationship schema. From this conceptual schema, a bitemporal SQL database schema is defined automatically. As a theoretical evaluation, our proposed method is novel in the following points. Firstly, although the method is dedicated to bitemporal databases, its starting point is with the enhanced entity-relationship model which is so popular that practicing database designers can work with it well. Secondly, its temporal supports are explicitly extracted and included in the data model mapping in an automatic manner. The automatic mapping process is based on topological sorting and thus performed in a certain sequence to derive a bitemporal SQL database schema with the SQL temporal support. Above all, our method helps easily deploy bitemporal databases in real-world applications. Indeed, its illustration has been shown comprehensively for VNUMED, an intermediate research medical database.

Early course-level study performance prediction is a significant educational data mining task to forecast the success of each current student in a course using the historical data of the students in the previous same course. This task can be resolved by different machine learning approaches in various educational contexts. However, how easily and effectively a solution is deployed in practice is restricted by many factors. Two main factors that have not yet been discussed simultaneously are incremental mining and interpretability when the task is prolonged course after course. Therefore, in this paper, we propose a novel cumulative increasing kernelized nearest-neighbor bagging method for early course-level study performance prediction. Our method is a lazy learning one with an inherent incremental mining mechanism, defined as an ensemble method. Although it works in a feature space to handle a non-linearly separated data space, interpretability is enabled with instance-based learning and a confidence score of each prediction is further provided for practical applications. Experimental results on several public datasets confirm the effectiveness of our method as compared to other traditional prediction methods and well-known ensemble ones. Its better early predictions can help both students and lecturers make appropriate course changes for students’ ultimate success.

Thus, inhibition of niche signals is a proposed strategy to target leukemia stem cells but this requires knowledge of the critical signals and may be subject to compensatory mechanisms. Signals from the niche require receptor-mediated endocytosis, a generic process dependent on the Dynamin family of large GTPases. Here, we show that Dynole 34-2, a potent inhibitor of Dynamin GTPase activity, can block transduction of key signalling pathways and overcome chemoresistance of leukemia stem cells. Our results provide a significant conceptual advance in therapeutic strategies for acute leukemia that may be applicable to other malignancies in which signals from the niche are involved in disease progression and chemoresistance.

Background. Heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF) is a rising health problem with heterogeneous presentation and no evidence-based treatment. While Southeast Asia reported the highest mortality and morbidity among Asian population, little is known about the Vietnamese population, including patient characteristics, prescribing pattern and mortality rate. Endocytosis is the dynamic internalization of cargo (receptors, hormones, viruses) for cellular signaling or processing. It involves multiple mechanisms, classified depending on critical proteins involved, speed, morphology of the derived intracellular vesicles, or substance trafficked. Pharmacological targeting of specific endocytosis pathways has a proven utility for diverse clinical applications from epilepsy to cancer. A multiplexable, high-content screening assay has been designed and implemented to assess various forms of endocytic trafficking and the associated impact of potential small molecule modulators. The applications of this assay include (1) drug discovery in the search for specific, cell-permeable endocytosis pathway inhibitors (and associated analogues from structure-activity relationship studies), (2) deciphering the mechanism of internalization for a novel ligand (using pathway-specific inhibitors), (3) assessment of the importance of specific proteins in the trafficking process (using CRISPR-Cas9 technology, siRNA treatment, or transfection), and (4) identifying whether endocytosis inhibition is an off-target for novel compounds designed for alternative purposes. We describe this method in detail and provide a range of troubleshooting options and alternatives to modify the protocol for lab-specific applications.

The applications of this assay include (1) drug discovery in the search for specific, cell-permeable endocytosis pathway inhibitors (and associated analogues from structure-activity relationship studies), (2) deciphering the mechanism of internalization for a novel ligand (using pathway-specific inhibitors), (3) assessment of the importance of specific proteins in the trafficking process (using CRISPR-Cas9 technology, siRNA treatment, or transfection), and (4) identifying whether endocytosis inhibition is an off-target for novel compounds designed for alternative purposes. We describe this method in detail and provide a range of troubleshooting options and alternatives to modify the protocol for lab-specific applications.

Partnering has been applied in the Vietnamese construction industry for several recent years, due to many new challenges emanating from the global integration and economic booming. This paper focuses on critical success factors (CSFs) for partnering in the Vietnamese construction industry. Using mean score method, this paper identifies six key CSFs for partnering in Vietnamese construction, including financial security, commitment from top management, mutual trust between parties, adequate resources, effective communication, and clear understanding about scope and objectives. Using factor analysis technique, eight underlying components for partnering in Vietnamese construction are extracted, including dedication, readiness, coordination, teamwork, sufficiency, leading, balance, and clearness. The findings could provide construction practitioners with useful information for deploying partnering in the Vietnamese construction industry and, hence, increase the chance of partnering success.
