Abstract

Research was conducted to measure the V-I properties of (YBa2Cu3O(sub x) bulk single crystal containing Y2BaCuO(sub x) particles) (QMG) for pulse current and transition of the voltage during the pulse. The two n-values derived for two rods cut out of the same QMG single crystal at 77 K did not coincide. Results indicate that QMG single crystal had some amount of distortion based on its crystalline substructure.

Abstract

Research was conducted to examine the quench characteristics of YBa2Cu3O(sub 7 - sigma) bulk high temperature superconductors made by the modified Quench Melt Growth approach as fault current limiter elements. The E-J characteristics of the flux flow state and the resistive state and normal zone propagation velocity for the QMG elements in liquid argon are also discussed. All calculations were performed in liquid argon.

Abstract

The development and testing of a kA class high critical temperature bulk superconducting elements of devices for a resistive type fault current limiter for 6 kV distribution networks were conducted. Results demonstrate that a single domain YBCO bulk element 15 mm long with a 1.5 mm x 1.5 mm cross-section could transport kA class AC current. However, the resistance value is not sufficient for the limiter.

Abstract

Research was conducted to examine the super-normal (S-N) transitions of different metal-coated melt processed YBa2Cu3O(sub 7-x)/Y2BaCuO5 composite bulk superconductor (QMG) current limiting elements measured by single rectangular pulse current to analyze the basic properties of QMG-superconducting fault current limiter. Results show that hte metal coating dramatically enhances the endurance of element against the current flow after S-N transition.

Abstract

The development of the current bus line with conductor-holder for the melt textured YBa2Cu3O(sub x) bulk conductor is described. The objective was to moderate Joule heat generation in high current transport experiments at 4.2 K. Experimental results illustrate the feasibility of the application of the melt textured YBa2Cu3O(sub x) bulk conductor to the current feed device for the Large Helical Device.

Abstract

The development of 70 MW class superconducting generators as a national project of Japan is described. The program began in 1988 while the manufacturing of the slow response excitation type rotor was finished by the early part of 1996. A performance test of the rotor was performed in the factory by 1997. Factory test results of the cryogenic and electrical performances of the rotor are described.

Abstract

36th European Photovoltaic Solar Energy Conference and Exhibition; 83-86, The study was aimed to produce a wet solar cell applying the photocatalytic characteristics of titanium dioxide (TiO2) and copper oxides with seawater electrolyte that can be used in marine environment. Screen printed TiO2 electrode and vacuum deposited copper oxides were designed as the electrodes in this study. The cell voltage of 800 mV was obtained and stable during a 24-hour period in the assembled cell. The power density measurement was performed both for separated and assembled cells. The power density of assembled cell is higher than that of separated cell. From the electrochemical impedance spectroscopy analysis, the Nyquist plot was obtained and the equivalent circuit for the cell was constructed by simple curve fitting. The EIS result showed the impedance values of both TiO2 and Cu oxides semiconductors. The circuit for layers of electrodes and electrolyte was obtained
