155. Optimizing Power Reclamation of Micro Hydro Turbines in WWTPs Aeration Basins

This study investigates the optimum operating conditions and design configurations that can optimize the power reclaimed by small hydro turbines derived by the rising water-bubble current. The rising current is generated by the compressed air introduced by the diffusers at the bottom of aeration basins of Wastewater Treatment Plants (WWTPs). While optimizing the power production, the standard oxygen transfer efficiency (SOTE) is monitored since it is a significant parameter that cannot be sacrificed in the operation of WWTPs. Using one set of turbine blades, it was found out that the highest velocity is obtained in the upper half of the water column (70% - 80%). In contrast, the lowest velocities were obtained just above the air diffuser and at the water surface. Testing started with using a single turbine (ST) to determine the location of the optimum power reclaimed at each tested airflow (1.18, 1.42, 1.65, and 1.89 L/s). Then using double turbine (DT) and triple turbine (TT) to compare their performance to the STs maximum power increased power reclamation. The maximum percentage of increase in power reclamation for DT is 19.59%, while it is 20.24% in the case of TT. At a commonly used airflow in WWTPs (1.42 L/s), the optimum configurations of DTs and TTs were selected to investigate the effect of having the proposed setup on the SOTE. For membrane diffusers, DTs and TTs limited the dispersion of the air bubbles in the tank, therefore, reducing the SOTE (8.3% for DT and 3.7% for the TT). The ceramic and sharp-nub diffusers were also tested versus rubber membrane ones to determine the effect of using the ceramic and sharp-nub diffusers on the power reclamation and SOTE. Ceramic diffusers neither achieve higher power reclamation than the membrane nor increases the SOTE. In contrast, sharp-nub diffusers increase the SOTE for all configurations compared to membranes, but this came into account of power reclamation, where sharp-nub diffusers cause a DT and a TT to produce less power than ST does.

Introduction: Cornelia de Lange syndrome (CdLS) is a rare non-hereditary syndrome. The key diagnosis is unique facial features, limb anomalies, and growth retardation. Cardiac defects with gastrointestinal and genitourinary anomalies may be associated. Case Presentation: This is a case of neonatal CdLS that we think is interesting due to its association with a novel congenital heart complex. Conclusions: Patients with CdLS have a high incidence of congenital heart disease (CHD), so a cardiologic study of all of these patients is suggested.

Carcass parameters and meat quality in lambs that consumed diets having layer hen litter (LL) were evaluated in a complete randomized study. Forty-two lambs were allocated equally (14 lambs/treatment diet) into one of three iso-nitrogenous diets for 75 days. To partially replace soybean meal and barley, LL was given at 0 (LL0), 150 (LL150), or 300 g/kg (LL300) of dietary dry matter (DM). At the termination of the trial, the characteristics of carcasses (hot and cold carcass weight, dressing percentage, and carcass cuts) and meat quality (Musculus longissimus linear dimensions, ultimate pH, cooking loss, water holding capacity (WHC), shear force (SF), color coordinates) were measured after slaughtering all lambs. Longissimus muscle weight was greatest (p < 0.05) for the LL150. For the dissected loin, intermuscular fat content was lowest for the LL0 diet. However, subcutaneous fat content was lower (p < 0.05) in the LL300 diet than LL0 and LL150 diets. Rib fat depth and Musculus longissimus area were greater (p < 0.05) for LL150 than L0. No differences were found in meat pH or color parameters among treatments but WHC and SF were lower in L0 lambs than in lambs fed LL containing diets. Cooking loss was greater for the LL300 diet than the LL0 diet. In summary, quality of meat and carcasses data indicate the possibility of inclusion of LL up to 300 g/kg DM to growing Awassi lambs.

- Abstract
Background: Documentation of patterns and long-term trends in mortality in young people, which reflect huge changes in demographic and social determinants of adolescent health, enables identification of global investment priorities for this age group. We aimed to analyse data on the number of deaths, years of life lost, and mortality rates by sex and age group in people aged 10–24 years in 204 countries and territories from 1950 to 2019 by use of estimates from the Global Burden of Diseases, Injuries, and Risk Factors Study (GBD) 2019. Methods: We report trends in estimated total numbers of deaths and mortality rate per 100 000 population in young people aged 10–24 years by age group (10–14 years, 15–19 years, and 20–24 years) and sex in 204 countries and territories between 1950 and 2019 for all causes, and between 1980 and 2019 by cause of death. We analyse variation in outcomes by region, age group, and sex, and compare annual rate of change in mortality in young people aged 10–24 years with that in children aged 0–9 years from 1990 to 2019. We then analyse the association between mortality in people aged 10–24 years and socioeconomic development using the GBD Socio-demographic Index (SDI), a composite measure based on average national educational attainment in people older than 15 years, total fertility rate in people younger than 25 years, and income per capita. We assess the association between SDI and all-cause mortality in 2019, and analyse the ratio of observed to expected mortality by SDI using the most recent available data release (2017). Findings: In 2019 there were 1·49 million deaths (95% uncertainty interval 1·39–1·59) worldwide in people aged 10–24 years, of which 61% occurred in males. 32·7% of all adolescent deaths were due to transport injuries, unintentional injuries, or interpersonal violence and conflict; 32·1% were due to communicable, nutritional, or maternal causes; 27·0% were due to non-communicable diseases; and 8·2% were due to self-harm

- Abstract
Anemia is a globally widespread condition in women and is associated with reduced economic productivity and increased mortality worldwide. Here we map annual 2000–2018 geospatial estimates of anemia prevalence in women of reproductive age (15–49 years) across 82 low- and middle-income countries (LMICs), stratify anemia by severity and aggregate results to policy-relevant administrative and national levels. Additionally, we provide subnational disparity analyses to provide a comprehensive overview of anemia prevalence inequalities within these countries and predict progress toward the World Health Organization’s Global Nutrition Target (WHO GNT) to reduce anemia by half by 2030. Our results demonstrate widespread moderate improvements in overall anemia prevalence but identify only three LMICs with a high probability of achieving the WHO GNT by 2030 at a national scale, and no LMIC is expected to achieve the target in all their subnational administrative units. Our maps show where large within-country disparities occur, as well as areas likely to fall short of the WHO GNT, offering precision public health tools so that adequate resource allocation and subsequent interventions can be targeted to the most vulnerable populations.

- Abstract
This study aimed to investigate the degree of employing authentic assessment strategies and tools by teachers of Arabic language within the competency curriculum at Kuwait, according to certain variables: gender, and years of experience. The sample consisted of all male and female teachers who teach Arabic in accordance with the competency curriculum for the primary and middle levels in Jahra, for the academic year of 2018-2019. A descriptive research approach was adopted to measure the degree of employment of the authentic assessment and tools. The study also employed a qualitative approach method and involved the use of interviews and surveys to collect the relevant data. Findings of the study revealed that the pen and paper (written test) strategy has scored the first rank in terms of the degree of employment, while the evaluation strategy based on self-review ranked last. The results also revealed that there were statistically significant differences on certain items of the rating scale in the degree of employment of the authentic assessment tools and strategies at (α ≤ 0.05) attributed to the variables: years of teaching experience in favor of the group (1-5) years of experience, while there was no statistically significant differences attributed to the variable of gender. Recommendations were offered in the light of the findings of the study.

Premise Climate change is having major impacts on alpine and arctic regions, and inter‐annual variations in temperature are likely to increase. How increased climate variability will impact plant reproduction is unclear. Methods In a 4‐year study on fruit production by an alpine plant community in northern Sweden, we applied three warming regimes: (1) a static level of warming with open‐top chambers (OTC), (2) press warming, a yearly stepwise increase in warming, and (3) pulse warming, a single‐year pulse event of higher warming. We analyzed the relationship between fruit production and monthly temperatures during the budding period, fruiting period, and whole fruit production period and the effect of winter and summer precipitation on fruit production. Results Year and treatment had a significant effect on total fruit production by evergreen shrubs, Cassiope tetragona, and Dryas octopetala, with large variations between treatments and years. Year, but not treatment, had a significant effect on deciduous shrubs and graminoids, both of which increased fruit production over the 4 years, while forbs were negatively affected by the press warming, but not by year. Fruit production was influenced by ambient temperature during the previous‐year budding period, current‐year fruiting period, and whole fruit production period. Minimum and average temperatures were more important than maximum temperature. In general, fruit production was negatively correlated with increased precipitation. Conclusions These results indicate that predicted increased climate variability and increased precipitation due to climate change may affect plant reproductive output and long‐term community dynamics in alpine meadow communities. Fat-tailed sheep breeds are the most widespread types of sheep in the Middle East. They are hardy and have acceptable growth and carcass traits. The purpose of this study is to compare the fattening performance, nutrient digestibility, and carcass characteristics of two fat-tailed sheep breeds, Awassi and Najdi. Thirty single-born Awassi and Najdi male lambs (15 lambs per breed) were examined for fattening and carcass characteristics. The study lasted 70 days (10 days adaptation period and 60 days for collecting the data). Feed consumption was monitored daily, and the body weight of lambs was recorded upon arrival to the trial area and biweekly afterward. Lambs were slaughtered at the end of the study to assess carcass and meat quality characteristics. Nitrogen intake and retained nitrogen were higher (P 0.05) for Najdi lambs. The digestibility of nutrients was comparable between the two genetic groups. Initial body weight, final body weight, average daily gain, and dry matter intake were not affected (P 0.05) by the lamb's breed. Furthermore, the feed-to-gain ratio, hot and cold carcass weights, and dressing percentage were not affected by breed type (P 0.05). Breed type has no influence on the shoulder, loin, and rack percentages of the lamb. Moreover, meat quality traits were not affected by the lamb's breed (P 0.05). In the dissected leg cut, no differences in the leg component were found among the two breed types (P 0.05). Results of this study reveal that nitrogen intake and retained nitrogen were higher for Najdi lambs, but this was not reflected in fattening performance and carcass traits.

The technology demonstration on rice production under organic and inorganic fertilizer application was conducted to determine which of the identified treatments would give better rice growth and yield and showcase the technology to the farmers. The study was composed of three treatments. Treatment A - Inorganic Fertilizer (120-60-60); Treatment B - ½ of 50% Inorganic + 50% Vermicast RR; Treatment C - 25 bags of vermicast as organic fertilizer. An area of 778.18 square meters was divided into three plots with a measurement of 19.30 meters in length and 12.44 meters in width (19.30m x 12.44m). Between plots was provided with a 1-meter distance for the passageway and drainage for excess water. The research made use of frequency and mean to determine the growth and yield performance of NSIC Rc 160 (Tubigan 14) as applied with organic and inorganic fertilizers. Treatment variation was analyzed using one-way ANOVA. The result of the study shows that the application of inorganic and organic fertilizers gave a comparable performance in terms of growth and yield performance. However, in terms of a cost analysis of using inorganic and organic fertilizers, it is more economical to use organic fertilizer than inorganic fertilizer. It further showed that the lower the cost of production, the higher the net income of the rice production under organic fertilizer application. The researcher further concluded that the application of vermicast alone as a fertilizer source or a combination of inorganic and organic fertilizers is more cost-efficient in rice production than purely inorganic fertilizer application. This article investigates the symbolism of white color in the works of the Palestinian poet Mahmoud Darwish and the Spanish Federico Garcia Lorca. The white color is exceptionally employed in their poetry, which is different from its normal symbolism in Arabic and Spanish cultures. In their poetry, the white color is used to symbolize a duality of opposites, death as an end to mortal life and eternity as an infinity phase of afterlife. This paradoxical use of the white color cannot be grasped by readers without considering the poetic context. This color is employed by the two poets to reflect their psychology, feelings, and emotions toward death and eternity. The color white symbolizes death in all forms; the self-death as shown in Darwish’s poem Mural, the death of the other as illustrated in Lament for the Death of a Bullfighter of Lorca, the divine death as in Lorca’s The Martyrdom of Saint Eulalia and the instant death of humans as in Remainder of a Life of Darwish. In addition, the white color is used to symbolize eternity as an afterlife phase. This paper introduces analytical solutions to gap waveguide slot antenna structures. The reciprocity method is used for the analysis by exploiting Green’s function of a bed of nails structure employing a homogenized plane-wave spectral-domain approach. Green’s function is found using parallel plate waveguide and surface admittance concepts. The spectral surface admittance of the pin structure is calculated using asymptotic boundary condition (ABC), and the unknown antenna slot currents are solved using moment methods. The structure is designed to have a cutoff frequency of 10–15 GHz, and the central operating frequency of the slot is 12.5 GHz. This approach is applied to the specific geometry of a propagating ridge gap waveguide single transverse broad wall slot antenna structure. The equivalent series impedance and far zone fields and patterns are calculated, and the results are compared with a full-wave commercial software, and they are proved to be accurate.

Glucose and glycated hemoglobin (Hb) in the blood of camel (Camelus dromedarius) and cow (Bos taurus) were analyzed and compared with human values. Camel displayed high blood glucose concentration (9.7±2.8 mM) but a low level of glycated-Hb (3.4± 0.23%).Cow blood samples did not show sufficient variations in glucose concentrations (5.7±0.73 mM) or glycated Hb levels (3.2± 0.11%) compared to human values. The low glycation of camel Hb at higher glucose concentrations suggest that certain factors protect the Hb from glycation at high glucose concentrations. Camel Hb also exhibited a higher electrophoretic mobility than normal hemoglobin of human or cow. Camel Hb migrated at a rate corresponding to that of human Hb-C. Bioinformatics tools were used to explore the biochemical basis for the difference in camel Hb migratory position and its apparent resistance to glycation.

PURPOSE To investigate and compare the translucency and color stability of a newly introduced polymer-infiltrated ceramic network (PICN) material (Crystal Ultra) to those of clinically well-established restorative materials. MATERIALS AND METHODS A total of 80 specimens measuring (12 × 14 × 1 mm ± 0.05 mm) were prepared from five CAD/CAM (IPS e.max (IPS), Lava Ultimate (LU), Cerasmart (CS), Vita Enamic (VE), Crystal Ultra (CU)) high translucency (HT) blocks in A2 or equivalent shades. Specimens were randomly allocated into two groups (A and B) (n = 8), and were subjected to 5,000 thermal-cycles (TC). This was followed by one-week immersion of group A specimens in coffee (staining) solution and group B specimens in distilled water. Following immersion, the specimens from both groups were further subjected to 5,000 TC. A spectrophotometer was used to measure the translucency parameter (TP) and color change (ΔE00 ) of the samples using CIELAB color coordinates at baseline, after 5,000 TC, following immersion, and after further 5,000 TC. Color stability was evaluated using the CIEDE2000 formula. Data were analyzed by non-parametric tests (α = 0.05). RESULTS The TP values of the CAD/CAM materials ranged from 18.0-22.0. Following the initial TC, the changes in TP values were significant for VE (p = 0.012). Coffee immersion and further TC significantly impacted the TP values of PICN (VE and CU) materials compared to glass- ceramics (IPS), and resin nanoceramic (CS and LU) materials (p = 0.012). The comparison between CAD/CAM materials at different intervals showed a significant difference in the TP values (p < 0.01). The materials showed perceptible color changes following the initial TC except for PICN materials which demonstrated acceptable color changes. The major color difference was noticed for the resin nanoceramic specimens immersed in coffee; LU and CS showed higher color changes (ΔE00 = 2.45 and 2.09, respectively) than VE and CU (ΔE00 < 1.8). CONCLUSIONS The translucency of the newly introduced Crystal Ultra PICN material was low compared to the resin nanoceramics and lithium disilicate glass-ceramic. The Crystal Ultra material exhibited better color stability compared to resin nanoceramics, but higher color change when compared with Vita Enamic PICN and lithium disilicate glass-ceramic CAD/CAM materials.

- Abstract
Background: Patient satisfaction is a critical component of clinical success in patients undergoing restorations. As a result, the purpose of this study was to assess the clinical performance of crowns and multi-unit fixed prosthodontics in order to determine the frequency of problems associated with crowns and fixed restorations in a Saudi subpopulation using clinical and radiographic parameters. Methods: Three-hundred patients who received crowns and tooth-supported fixed partial dentures at dental polyclinics center in Hail region, Saudi Arabia between March 2021 and October 2021 were included in the study. The method of purposeful sampling was used. Clinical and radiographic examinations were used to identify patients who received crowns and FPDs at the dental center during the specified time. Patients with at least three-unit FPDs or a single crown with a natural contra-lateral tooth / teeth met the inclusion criteria. Six general dentists performed clinical and radiographic examinations. The criteria for evaluation the crowns and FPDs were technical and biological complications and satisfaction of the patients. Cross-tabulation is used to determine the frequency and percentage of the various parameters used in the current study. Results: The majority of the restoration had non-acceptable marginal integrity 249 (83%). Most of the restorations 181 (60.3%) had acceptable morphology. Almost all of the restorations 289 (96.3%) had un-satisfactory color. Visible periodontal depth equal or more than 5 mm were found in 53 (17.7%). Most of the fixed restorations were associated with gingival bleeding 240 (80%), while periapical lesion was found on 72 (24% teeth in all patients. The most patients 219 (73%) reported to be non-satisfied with their fixed restorations. Conclusions: The technical and biological complications noted in the current study were higher to other studies of FPDs. The majority of patients were dissatisfied with the restoration.
