Straipsnyje nagrinėjami dailės politizavimo aspektai postalininio laikotarpio Lietuvoje: galios meno ypatumai, oficialiosios kultūros politikos ir dailininkų interesų sąveika, meninio protesto klausimas. Galios menui kaip produkavimo, sklaidos ir recepcijos sistemai šiuo laikotarpiu būdingos trys tendencijos. Pirma, ideologinę propagandą dailės priemonėmis palaipsniui pakeitė politizuota dailės propaganda. Antra, stiprėjo galios meno kanono dvilypumas. Trečia, politinį dailės vaidmenį lėmė valdžios legitimacijos strategijų kaita. Brežnevo laikais SSKP siekė pademonstruoti pasauliui, kad ji puoselėja kultūrą, meną ir skatina nacionalinių kultūrų suklestėjimą. Todėl, kuo labiau Lietuvos dailė buvo panaši į vakarietišką modernizmą, tuo geriau ji tiko valdžios legitimacijos tikslams. Hipertrofuotas valdžios dėmesys dailei postalininiu laikotarpiu nulėmė tvirtą bei lanksčią dailės ir valdžios sankabą. Dailininkų sąjunga siekė kontroliuoti visas su daile susijusias sritis – muziejus, dailės studijas ir švietimą, tautodailininkų veiklą, dailės kritiką ir istoriją, spaudą, leidybą, prekybą kūriniais. Be pačių dailininkų pagalbos partija nebūtų galėjusi prižiūrėti atnaujinto socialistinio realizmo ieškojimų. Šio laikotarpio Lietuvos dailei būdingos dvi nonkonformizmo pakraipos. Pirmosios pakraipos nonkonformizmas – iliuzinis, valdžios skatintas, nulemtas skirtumo tarp reikalavimų ir vertinimo kriterijų. Antroji – tikroji, neoficiali, tik menininkų dirbtuvėse ar butuose siauram ratui rodyta kūryba – negalėjo tapti rimtu iššūkiu santvarkai dėl ribotos recepcijos. The paper focuses on the aspects of art politicization in post-Stalin Lithuania: the peculiarities of the art of power, interaction of the official cultural policy and artists’ interests, and the issue of artistic process. The art of power as the system of production, dissemination and reception could be characterised by three trends at that period. First, politicized art propaganda gradually replaced the ideological propaganda by means of art. Second, the ambiguity of the cannon of the art of power strengthened. Third, the political role of art was determined by the shift of government legitimation strategies. During Brezhnev’s regime the Communist Party tried to demonstrate to the world that it fostered culture and art and promoted the thriving of national cultures. Therefore, the more Lithuanian art was similar to Western Modernism, the more suitable it was for the purposes of government legitimation. Hypertrophied attention of the government to art during the post-Stalin period determined a firm and flexible union of art and government. The Artists’ Union sought to control all art related areas: museums, art studies and education, the activities of folk artists, art criticism and history, printing, publishing and trade in works of art. Two non-conformism deviations are characteristic of Lithuanian art of this period. The first deviation of non-conformism is illusory, promoted by the government and determined by the difference between the requirements and evaluation criteria. The second deviation is the actual, unofficial creation demonstrated only in artists’ workshops or flats to small groups; it could not become a serious challenge to the regime due to limited reception.

Straipsnyje analizuojami ir apibendrinami šiuolaikiniai Lietuvos komiksai (knygos ir žurnalai), išleisti 1990-2005 metais. Tiriami komiksai lietuvių kalba, verstos knygelės ir komiksai, išleisti Lietuvoje užsienio kalba. Straipsnyje neminimi trumpieji komiksai. Rašant apie periodinius leidinius („Kiškis Kvanka“, „Žmogus voras“, „Donaldas ir kiti“, „Tom & Jerry“, „Flinto bumas“, „Magija“), pavyzdžiu pasirenkamas vienas egzempliorius. Tyrimo tikslui pasiekti naudojamasi dokumentų analizės bei lyginamuoju metodais, lietuviškos komiksų knygelės ir žurnalai tiriami de visu. [...] Remiantis anketavimo metodu atlikto tyrimo duomenimis, pateikiama žinių apie vaikų ir jaunimo tipologinius prioritetus renkantis komiksus. Tyrimas atskleidžia, kad dabar Lietuvoje požiūris į komiksus keičiasi. Vis dažniau įvertinamas komiksų naudingumas mokantis, perteikiant kultūros, istorijos, geografijos ir kitokias žinias. Daugiausia Lietuvoje išleista vaikams skirtų laisvalaikio, pramogų komiksų. Populiariausi Lietuvoje laisvalaikio komiksai: kelionių ir nuotykių komiksai, komiksai apie išdykusius vaikus, superherojus, veiksmo, detektyviniai ir fantastiniai komiksai. Jaunuosius skaitytojus domina pramoginės ir žaidybinės komiksų funkcijos. Vaikai skaito komiksus, nes jiems patinka humoras, galimybė sužadinti vaizduotę. Komikso visumą lemia tikrovės, vaizduojamosios dailės ir literatūros kūrinio derinys, suvokiamas pojūčiais, mąstymu ir vaizduote. This article analyses and summarizes the contemporary comic books and magazines, released in Lithuania during the year 1990–2005. It includes the original Lithuanian, foreign comics, published in Lithuania and the translations from foreign languages. The main tasks of the article are: to analyse the conception of the comics, to explain the term; to know the comic books and magazines de visu, to make the origins index; to explore the tipology of Lithuanian comics according to the maid index (compare comics genres for different contingent of readers, comics features, reveal the content of comics and their communicating characteristics). There were used document analysis, comparative and the method of questionnaire to get the material for the article. There was set the conclusion, that todays society forms a new look to the comics. Comics become valuable for their ability to sense some sort of ideas and traditions. Comics can be called a medium because of their original form. This form comes step by step, from one panel satyrical picture to the series of pictures with one plot. Sequence is one of the leading elements of the comics structure. Entertaining and pleasure comics are the most common in Lithuania. Comics in Lithuania are ascribable to childrens literature. The most popular genres in Lithuania among young readers are: journey-adventure comics, comics about rollicking animals, superhero, action comics, detective and fantastic stories. All this genres belong to the spare time comics tipe. There also are comics for learning and spiritual enlightenment in Lithuania. The young readers are interested in entertaining and game functions of comics. Children read comics because of their humour, because they see the reflection of the society in comics and can actualize their imagination. Comics for children are laconic and clear. They use more pictures than text. Comics completeness is conditioned by reality, the fine arts and literary thing combination. Each of them is knowable through the senses, thinking and imagination.

Kazys Varnelis - Lietuvoje subrendęs kūrėjas, ryškų pėdsaką palikęs JAV meniniame gyvenime. Tai iš tiesų renesansiška asmenybė: dailininkas, kolekcininkas, bibliofilas. Jo kūryba, plėtota septynis dešimtmečius, netelpa į vieno stiliaus rėmus, ji kito lygiagrečiai su pasaulinėmis meno tendencijomis. Ją galima skirti į tris etapus: 1) 4-5 dešimtmetyje plėtota art deco stilistika, jaučiant didelę Stasio Ušinsko įtaką; 2) iš konstruktyvizmo, minimalizmo ir optinio meno jungties gimę kūriniai, moduliuotos monochrominės drobės ir konstruktyvistinės erdvinės struktūros, sukurtos Čikagoje 7-8 dešimtmetyje; 3) XX a. paskutinių dviejų dešimtmečių ir pastarųjų metų kūriniai, kuriuose griežtą geometrinę struktūrą keičia biomorfiniai motyvai, architektūrinių formų ar buities rakandų ir indų fragmentai, o funkcionalią akrilo dažais išgaunamą šviesokaitą - minkšti aliejinės tapybos potėpiai, abstrakčią ornamentiką - siurrealistinės, simbolistinės ar hiperrealistinės kompozicijos. K. Varnelio kūryba atskleidžia tai, jog galima organiška jungtis tarp liaudies meno ir modernių urbanizuoto pasaulio meno tendencijų. Dailininkas peržengia vaizduojamąjį pradą ir atskleidžia racionaliąsias liaudies meno ypatybes - ritmiškos, architektoniškos, cikliškos pasaulio sandaros pobūdį. Archajiškieji simboliai, liaudies ornamentikai būdingi komponavimo principai efektyviai naudojami šiuolaikinėje kūryboje. Nors K. Varnelis iš tolo kratėsi ARS grupuotės įtakos, tačiau labiau, nei dauguma iš jiems prijautusių ir pripažinusių jų kvietimą suvienyti liaudies meną ir modernią kūrybą, priartėjo prie šio idealo. Kazys Varnelis, son of a craftsman from Samogitia who made statues of god, lived in the USA in exile for fifty years. In his works he developed the ideas of constructivism, minimalism, and optical art. While studying at Kaunas Art School and later directing the Museum of Ecclesiastical Art in Kaunas, K. Varnelis collected works of folk art. With the mergence of this experience and the tendencies of minimalistic and constructive thought that dominated in industrial Chicago of the 1960s and 1970s, K. Varnelis formed an individual concept of creation where layers of folk art are exposed behind abstract rhythmic structures. K. Varnelis was inspired by wooden structures of folk architecture and the ornamentation of whittled barn doors and furniture; the ideas for structural painting and constructive sculpturing were generated from hanging straw wedding ornaments. However, most of the ideas came to the painter from patterns of old fabrics and ornamental structures, modulated and repeated rhythmic, symbols and colour scale. The rhythmicity and cycle of life encoded in archaic ornamentation are individually interpreted in K. Varnelis' painting. According to the artist himself, this is how he stands in line with anonymous authors of folk art who pass the tradition of archaic worldview from generation to generation through the language of symbols and ornaments.

Šiame straipsnyje nagrinėjamas XIX a. pabaigos - XX a. I pusės teorijų ir meninių krypčių poveikis XX a. meninio stiklo raidai bei naujoms meninėms apraiškoms šios srities mene. Teigiama, jog naujos kūrybinės formos bei modernistiniai judėjimai XX a. II pusėje skatino gilesnę individualios kūrybos metodų plėtotę ir stiklo meno pokyčius bei atsinaujinimą vaizduojamosios dailės linkme. Analizuojama XX a. unikalios autorinės stiklininkystės pradžia ir tolesnis šios meno srities rutuliojimasis JAV, Europos ir Lietuvos stiklo studijose (dirbtuvėse). XX a. pabaigoje studijinio stiklo plėtotės dėka nuosekliai pratęstas XIX a. pabaigos teoretikų deklaruotas kūrybinio, individualaus meninio darbo siekis. Studijinio stiklo judėjimas atvėrė kelią stiklo meno unikalumui, kurio nebuvo galima tikėtis pramoninėje gamyboje, taip pat gilesniam stiklo medžiagos savybių išryškinimui, aukštesniam profesionalumui, amato technikų įvaldymui. Straipsnyje pristatoma studijinio stiklo problematika, analizuojama jo ištakos, raida, poveikis meninio stiklo atsinaujinimui pasaulio praktikoje ir Lietuvoje. Į tai žvelgiama pro istorinę prizmę išryškinant unikaliosios taikomosios dailės raišką ir iš dalies studijinio stiklo atsiradimą inicijavusius teorinius bei praktinius judėjimus, svariausiai nulėmusius bei protegavusius individualų kūrybos būdą tiek XIX a. pabaigoje, tiek ir XX amžiuje. The influence of the theories and artistic directions of the end of the 19th – begining of the 20th century on the development of art glass and new artistic manifestations in this branch of art is analysed in this article. It is stated that new creative forms and modernistic movements in the 2nd part of the 20th century encouraged a deeper development of the individual creation methods and the changes of glass art and the renewal in the direction of descriptive art. The beginning of unique auteur glass art of the 20th century and further developments in this field of art in the USA, European and Lithuanian art studies (workshops) is analysed. At the end of the 20th century thanks to the development of the workshop the attempt for individual, creative artistic work declared by the theoreticians of the 19th century was continued. The workshop glass movement opened the way to a unique glass art which could not have been envisioned in industrial production, and also for the deeper highlighting of glass’s material characteristics, higher professionalism and mastering of the handicraft techniques. The topic of workshop glass is presented in the article, its sources, development and influence on the renewal of artistic glass in global practice and Lithuania is analysed. This is considered through a historical perspective by highlighting the manifestation of the unique applied art and theoretic and practical movements which partially initiated the appearance of workshop glass and most strongly determined and protected the method of individual creation both at the end of the 19th century and in the 20th century.

Santrauka.Žmogaus ir aplinkos sąveikos problemos senos, bet laikui bėgant atsiranda naujų ženklų, liudijančių apie pokyčius,kurie vienaip ar kitaip daro įtaką gyvenimo kokybei. Ypač jautriai žmogus reaguoja į pokyčius rekreacinėje aplinkoje. Lietuvosdeklaruojamos darnaus vystymosi nuostatos verčia ieškoti priemonių, kaip pagerinti rekreacinės aplinkos, o kartu ir gyvenimokokybę Lietuvos miestuose. Žmogus miesto aplinkoje neabejotinai yra veikiamas kultūros ir meno vertybių: skulptūra, gėlynas,iškirstas ar pasodintas medis iš karto atkreipia dėmesį. Tokių pokyčių poveikis ryškesnis rekreacinėje aplinkoje. Ilgamečiai aplinkosstebėjimai leidžia konstatuoti, jog pastaraisiais metais daugelio Lietuvos miestų rekreacinės aplinkos kokybė ne tik nepagerėjo,bet prarado svarbius kokybinius komponentus. Meno kūrinys posovietinio miesto erdvėje, rekreacinėje aplinkoje vertinamasnevienareikšmiškai. Aplinkos vertybių naikinimas verčia ieškoti planavimo ar erdvių organizavimo priemonių negatyviems reiškiniamsmažinti. Šiuo aspektu svarbi vakarietiškos kultūros Europos miestų patirtis. Autorius analizuoja kai kurių Europos miestųpatirtį integruojant meno ir kultūros komponentus į rekreacines erdves, pateikiami konkretūs siūlymai, kaip pagerinti rekreacinėsaplinkos formavimo darbus. Europos miestų patirties analizė leidžia teigti, kad rekreacijos procese Lietuvos miestų rekreacinėaplinka gali būti naudojama gerokai efektyviau taikant meninio poveikio priemones. Rekreacinės aplinkos vertinimą autorius atlikoremdamasis ilgamete šios aplinkos planavimo patirtimi. Pateikiami rekreacinės aplinkos formavimo pavyzdžiai ir vertinimobei meninių vertybių integravimo į aplinką metodikos tobulinimo pasiūlymai, kurie gali būti naudingi vykdant miestų rekreacinėsaplinkos planavimo darbus. Postmodernizmas skatina naujai pažvelgti į meno ir politikos ryšius. Šio straipsnio tikslas – aptarti Platono ir jo oponentų iš postmodernistų stovyklos pažiūras. Platonas ir jo šalininkai klydo, manydami, kad politiką galima apsaugoti nuo didesnio poetinės vaizduotės įsikišimo. Postmodernistai klysta, nenorėdami pripažinti, kad politika turi daugybę nepoetiškų elementų. Politika gali būti suvokiama kaip autonomiška visuomenės gyvenimo sritis. Tačiau kartu ji negali apsieiti be kitų kultūrinio gyvenimo formų pagalbos. Viena vertus, bet kuris menas gali būti palenktas į politikos pusę. Kita vertus, politika gana dažnai apibūdinama kaip menas. Tačiau santykio su vaizdiniais požiūriu politika nėra joks menas. Politikus domina visai kiti vaizdinių aspektai nei kūrėjus. Menininkai žaidžia vaizdiniais ir nesirūpina praktinėmis žaidimo pasekmėmis. Politika yra praktinio pasaulio dalis. Visos postmoderniosios politikos estetinimo strategijos yra pagrįstos klaidingos išvados pakišimu. Iš ganėtinai pagrįstos prielaidos apie estetinius politikos elementus padaroma klaidinga išvada apie estetinį šios veiklos pobūdį. Postmodernistai politinį gyvenimą suvokia kaip spektaklį, reginį ir manipuliacijas vaizdiniais. Apie estetinius dalykus šiandien jau kalba ne tik menininkai, bet ir politikai. Dauguma politikų šiandien veikia žinodami, kad piliečių sąmonė yra orientuota ne į politinių programų turinį, bet į pusiau meninius įvaizdžius ir lengvai įsimenamus šūkius. Tai turbūt didžiausias dabartinio postmodernaus politinio mąstymo iššūkis. The aim of this article is to explain the single-sidedness of Plato and his opponents from the perspective of the postmodernist camp. Plato and his followers were wrong in thinking that politics can be protected from any major interference by one's poetic imagination. Postmodernists are wrong in not wanting to admit that politics has many elements which are not poetical. Postmodernists regard politics as similar to a spectacle, a performance, a play with images. From the theoretical point of view this approach has little benefit, and from the practical point of view it is dangerous. If one adheres to such an approach, a clear comprehension of the practical meaning of political events becomes blurred.

Straipsnyje nagrinėjamas dailininko Vytauto Kazimiero Jonyno 1955–1962 metais sukurtas bažnytinis menas. Gyvendamas Jungtinėse Amerikos Valstijose, dailininkas dekoravo bažnyčių interjerus, kūrė JAV lietuvių bendruomenės siektą „lietuvišką stilių“. Bendradarbiaudamas su architektu Jonu Muloku, Jonynas daug prisidėjo prie savito „lietuviško stiliaus“ sukūrimo, jis atsispindi jo vitražuose, altorių projektuose, baldų, liturginių reikmenų pavidaluose. Straipsnyje gilinamasi į „lietuviško stiliaus“ radimosi JAV bažnytinėje architektūroje genezę, aptariami atskiri sakralinės architektūros objektai, sukurti dviem lietuvių menininkams artimai bendradarbiaujant su lietuvių bendruomenėmis JAV. Lietuviško dailės ir architektūros stiliaus paieškos buvo vienas svarbiausių probleminių lietuvių dailės klausimų nuo XX a. pradžios. Dailininkui Jonynui tautinio meno problematika buvo artima dar prieškariu, kai gyvendamas Kaune ir Paryžiuje savo grafikos darbuose jis ne kartą pritaikė XIX a. liaudies raižinių motyvus ir stilistiką. Po II pasaulinio karo apsigyvenęs Amerikoje ir XX a. 6–7 deš. aktyviai bendradarbiaudamas su architektu Muloku, Jonynas daug prisidėjo prie „lietuviško stiliaus“ Šiaurės Amerikos lietuvių bažnyčiose išplėtojimo ir sykiu prie lietuvybės skleidimo. Jonyno kūrybinis įnašas į Šiaurės Amerikos lietuvių bažnyčių apipavidalinimą yra labai svarus. [toliau žr. visą tekstą] In the article the painter Vytautas Kazimieras Jonynas’ input while creating “Lithuanian style” in the Lithuanian churches of the USA is discussed, the artist’s architectonic, decoration, and design projects are analysed. The most important incentive for the development of church art in 6-7 decade – Vatican documents that gave new guidelines to the activity of architects and painters. Religious (liturgy) reform that was stated by Vatican II Meeting (1962-1965) concerned the churches architecture as well, and especially interiors. The change of architectonic image in the Lithuanian press in America was evaluated as an important part of Church renovation movement. The painter Jonynas brought some new ideas to the church art, and at the same time he reflected the classical tradition. He appealed to the fundamental principles of classical art, such as the simplicity of architectonic and design forms, the respect to historical relics, the close connection between priest and the prayers. This suited the times and the needs of society. The first work of Jonynas in architecture is stained glass created in 1955-1956 for Holy Mary’s Immaculate Conception Church (architecture Jonas Mulokas) in East Saint Louis, in the state of Illinois. This church is the first meeting-house of “Lithuanian style” in the North America. Visa meninė kūryba (postmodernistinė nė kiek nemažiau) yra nesuinteresuota dvasinė veikla, ieškanti išeities iš empirinės tikrovės, iš imanencijos, iš šio pasaulio inercijos. Vadovaujantis tokiu požiūriu į meną ir traktuojant literatūrą kaip meno rūšį, akivaizdu, kad su politika, giliai įklimpusia imanencijoje bei empirinėje tikrovėje, čia prasilenkiama. Vis dėlto akivaizdu ir tai, kad sąlyčio taškų ar bent tokio sąlyčio regimybės esama. Šiame straipsnyje bandoma pažvelgti į politikos ir literatūros sankirtą ne iš politikos stebėtojo, o iš literatūrinių pozicijų. Konkrečių žymių literatūros ir kino kūrinių pavyzdžiu straipsnyje nagrinėjamas meno ir politikos santykis. Teigiama, kad tikras politinis romanas yra toks, kuris, vaizduodamas blogą santvarką, siūlo politinę alternatyvą. Toks romanas kaip grožinė literatūra arba kaip menas yra tiesiog neįvykęs, nesukurtas, grožinės literatūros istorijoje neegzistuojantis arba pateiktinas tik kaip politinio propagandinio nukrypimo pavyzdys. G. Orwello romanui „1984-ieji“ straipsnyje skirtas ypatingas dėmesys, nes tai retas atvejis, kai meniškas kūrinys yra prie politinės literatūros ribos, tačiau jos neperžengia. Jeigu pripažįstame, kad politika yra kolektyvinė valstybės tvarkymo ir bendruomenės gyvenimo interpretavimo sritis, turime pripažinti, kad atsvarą totalitarinei sistemai romane teikę asmeniški, intymūs dalykai yra politikos priešingybė. Romane „1984-ieji“ šitie dalykai tampa pasipriešinimo sistemai esme, tad romanas savo pozityviuoju aspektu yra reikšmingai antipolitinis. Seen as a form of art, literature is a sphere of universals, indirect modes of expression and emphases on its own formal aspect. In this respect, literature is essentially different from discursive ways of expression, including politics. This, however, does not mean that one cannot make political inferences from literary works; it only means that a political message cannot be part of the essence of a true work of art. The author pays special attention to 1984, by George Orwell, and argues that this novel should not be regarded as an example of political literature. Although it clearly presents a negative picture of a political system, it does not argue for political alternatives to the totalitarian system; all alternatives presented in the novel are depicted as personal and intimate. The author also rejects the view that the evolution of literature is driven by power relationships or political agendas.

Lietuvių kilmės tapytojas Pranas Domšaitis (1880-1965) nugyveno įvykių kupiną, neramų klajūno gyvenimą, jo kūriniai taip pat pasklido po daugelį pasaulio šalių, tačiau laimei, didžioji dalis sukaupta Lietuvoje, kadangi Lietuvių fondas (JAV) iš dailininko našlės nupirkęs didžiąją dalį P. Domšaičio kūrinių, 1989-2001 m. laikotarpiu perdavė juos Lietuvos dailės muziejui. 2001 m. vasarą LDM padalinyje - Klaipėdos paveikslų galerijoje buvo atidaryta nuolatinė dailininko kūrinių ekspozicija, o 2004 m. galerijai suteiktas Prano Domšaičio vardas. Nuolatinėje jo kūrinių ekspozicijoje Klaipėdoje atspindimi svarbiausi dailininko kūrybos laikotarpiai, susiję su trimis šalimis: Vokietija, Austrija ir Pietų Afrikos Respublika. P. Domšaitis išgarsėjo po pirmųjų individualių parodų, surengtų 1919 m. Ferdinando Mollerio galerijose Berlyne ir Breslave. Nuo 1937 m., kai situacija Berlyne vis labiau komplikavosi, P. Domšaitis dažnai lankėsi Austrijoje, o 1943 m. čia apsigyveno. 1949 m. su žmona emigravo į Pietų Afriką, deja, nežinoma, kokios asmeninės priežastys ar konkretūs, tačiau nežinomi faktai tai lėmė. Čia dailininkas išgyveno kūrybinį pakilimą. Apskritai, kultūrinės aplinkos pokyčiai P. Domšaičiui dažnai tapdavo ir postūmiu naujos raiškos paieškoms, jie dailininkui padėjo naujai suvokti savąją tapatybę, didžiuotis lietuviška kilme. Jo kūrybai būdinga religinė tematika, peizažo žanro išplėtojimas, giluminės lietuviškumo apraiškos. The personality of painter Pranas Domšaitis (1880-1965) and his oeuvre fell into the scope of the Lithuanian society only at the end of the last century. Until the end of 1980s only a small number of experts knew this Lithuanian painter who came from Lithuania Minor, who lived and worked in Germany until the end of the World War II and in the Republic of South Africa after that. Domšaitis "returned" to Lithuania in 2001 when the Lithuanian Foundation presented the collection of his works (530 items) to Lithuania. In the Klaipėda Department of the Lithuanian Art Museum, a regular exhibition of the painter's works was opened and the gallery was named after Pranas Domšaitis. The emigrant's life for Domšaitis began in Germany in the 1930s when nationalsocialists implemented a campaign against "degenerated art" (Entartete Kunst). The paths of the painter who was on the list of "the degenerated" and fled from "the brown plague" and those of Lithuanian painters who retreated from occupied Lithuania crossed into the post-war Austria. The meeting with emigrant Lithuanian painters was a strong impulse for creation and crystallisation of Lithuanian identity for Domšaitis. The painter was destined to experience double emigration, for he went from Germany to Austria at first and after some time he set off to South Africa from Europe. The article discusses the years of emigration in Austria, Domšaitis' first contacts with emigrant Lithuanian painters, his participation in international exhibitions of emigrants held in Austria in the land of Vorarlberg. It also briefly reviews the situation of fine art in the Republic of South Africa in the 1940s and 1950s.

Straipsnis skirtas vieno sudėtingiausių XIX-XX a. sandūros Austrijos kultūros reiškinių - Gustavo Klimto ir Vienos secesijos sąjūdžio šalininkų estetinių bei meninės kūrybos principų kompleksinei analizei. Vienos secesijos estetikoje išryškėjusi "fin-de-siecle" atmosfera buvo tiesiogiai susijusi su radikaliomis estetinės ir meninės sąmonės transformacijomis, kurios gali pasirodyti aktualios ir dabartinei esminius pokyčius išgyvenančiai Lietuvos kultūrai. Nagrinėjant įvairius to meto sociokultūrinius ir idėjinius aspektus straipsnyje atskleidžiamas Klimto ir Vienos secesijos sąjūdžio estetinio pagrindo savitumas, suformuotas maištingo pasipriešinimo nuvertėjusioms XIX a. pabaigos akademinei estetikai ir meno raidai. Šis vyksmas iš esmės atmetė estetines bei menines modernaus meto poreikių neatitinkančios senosios kultūros vertybes. The article covers the analysis of the most complex phenom enon of Austrian culture during the period betw een the end of the 19th and the beginning of 20th century - principles of aesthetic and artistic creation belonging to Gustav Klimt and the protagonists of Viennese secession movement. The atmosphere of "fin-de-siecle", which becam e prom inent in the aesthetics of Viennese secession, was directly bound up with aesthetic and artistic transformations of consciousness, w hich might seem important even to the culture of modern Lithuania. In the article, with the references to the analysis of various social-cultural and ideological aspects of that time, the idiosyncracy of the aesthetic platform belonging to G. Klimt and Viennese secession m ovem ent is revealed, that has been crystallized out of riotous reaction of resistance, which radically rejected the value of the hereditary culture, that did not meet the needs of the modern time.

Straipsnio tikslas: išryškinti ir estetiniu aspektu konceptualiai apibrėžti kai kurias beprotybės formas konkrečiu Vakarų kultūros laikotarpiu, apžvelgti jų santykius su menine kūryba bei kitomis žmogaus "pyche" galiomis; atskleisti pamatines įvairių pažintinių perspektyvų nuostatas, susiejusias tarpusavyje tokius skirtingus reiškinius, kaip genialum as, estetinis pasaulio suvokimas, meninė kūryba, apsėstumas, beprotybė, instinktyvumas, psichinė liga ir pan. The goal of this article: to highlight and describe conceptually some forms of insanity at a certain period of Western culture, to overview their relations with an artistic creation and other hum an psyche pow ers; to grope the substantial attitudes of cognitive prospects, where these attitudes relate such different phenomena as genius, aestethical cognition of the world, artistic creation, obsessiveness, insanity, instinctiveness, mental illness, etc. To question about the aestethic psychological aspects of the relations between insanity and artistic creation means not to limit yourself in the problem of causality; that means to question about the alternating conjucture of cognitive strategies as if it was the system of initial assumptions, where the cognition of in sanity and artistic forms is concurrent with the aesthetic conciousness and conceptions of the person in the mentioned period. The article gives the propositions, which describe the models of relations between in sanity and artistic creation. In the "compensative" limits of a model insanity and artistic creation are related by the compensative mechanisms of the mental structures; In the perspective of the psychoanalytical doctrines (next to the mentioned "compensative" model) insanity and artistic creation can be related at least by three ways: emerging processes in the level of the same inspirational sources; phenomena growing one into another; and executing the analogical corrective functions. In the field of positive psychopathological aesthetic ideas the biological model of a person's development interpreted artistic creation as a screen of the potential psychopathological symptoms, which diagnoses the mental state at the individual as well as common-cultural one. In the frame of the model called "theory of temperament" insanity and artistic creation are related in the level of predispositions. In the prospect of positive psychopathological ideas the mentioned phenomena are related through the specific topography of the person. The institute of a genius relates insanity and artistic creation in the frame of the person as the model of energetic system. In the field of voluntary neo-romantic aesthetic ideas artistic creation and insanity (which hides in the shadow of the pain) meet with one another as the quantities which inspire one another: pain/insanity contain the prospect, without it art would lose its depth. Artistic creation and insanity are related by the means of perform ed functions; these are the endeavour of a person's introspection, which contain the necessary evidence of hiding.

Straipsnyje nagrinėjama riba tarp tikrovės ir meninės ismonės, siekiama nustatyti pastarosios vietą mūsų gyvenamojoje visumoje. Vadovaujamasi fenomenologine perspektyva, kuri papildoma Aristotelio judrios realybės samprata ir Bachtino estetine žiūra. Tai vadinama kultūros fenomenologijos modeliu: pramanas cia traktuojamas kaip fenomenas, kuris įtraukiamas į gyvenamąją visumą, o si savo ruožtu prapleciama. Gyvenamosios aplinkos judrumą laiduoja nuolatinis ribų tarp pramano ir tikrovės perkėlimas. Tikrovė suprantama kaip egzistencinė tikslų ir prasmių visuma, kur savo vietą randa pramanytas herojus, kreipiantis mūsų gyvenimą. Teigiama, kad mes patys tampame savo autorinio kūrinio – gyvenimo – herojais. Tarp mūsų kaip autoriaus ir kaip herojaus skleidžiasi įtampa kaip nuolatinis ribų perkėlimas. Gyvenimas taptų nejudrus, t. y. nekūrybingas, issitrynus siai ribai ir susiliejus autoriui bei herojui. Straipsnyje is kultūros fenomenologijos perspektyvos kalbama ir apie ribas tarp estetinio, etinio ir religinio gyvenamojo pasaulio plotmių. Nagrinėjamos issiplėtusios kūno ribos siuolaikiniame techninių protezų pasaulyje. Atkreipiamas dėmesys į tai, kad kūno isplėtimas gali reiksti iskūnijimą, o ne įkūnijimą. Įkūnijimas, kaip ir įtikrovinimas, įdaiktinimas, įribinimas, siejamas su įtraukimu į mūsų egzistencine siekių ir prasmių visumą. Kultūros fenomenologijos kontekste nagrinėjama ir riba tarp gyvenimo bei mirties. Teigiama, kad gyvenimas juo talpesnis, kuo arciau esame mirties ribos, nes mūsų laikas nukreiptas ir atgal – ne vien pirmyn. Taip laiko ir erdvės ribos gyvenamajame pasaulyje taip pat priklauso nuo mūsų egzistencinių siekių. THE LIMITS BETWEEN FICTION AND REALITY: A PHENOMENOLOGICAL PERSPECTIVE Tomas Kacerauskas Summary A limit between reality and artistic fiction is analyzed and attempt is made to determine the place of fiction in our living whole. The author follows the phenomenological perspective supplemented by Aristotle’s conception of mobile reality and Bachtin’s aesthetical contemplation. It is called the model of phenomenology of culture. The fiction is treated here as a phenomenon that is included into the living whole which is in this way extended. The permanent displacement of the limits between fiction and reality guarantees the mobility of the living environment. The reality is treated as an existential whole of the aims and senses. The fictional hero that directs our life takes part in this whole. The author of the article supposes that we have become the heroes of our creation of life. The tension as a permanent transferring of the limits unfolds between us as the author and as the hero. The life would become stagnant, i. e. not creative, without this limit between the author and the hero. It is spoken as well about the limits between aesthetical, ethical, and religion planes of the living world. The author analyses the extended limits of the body in the contemporary world of technical prostheses. The extending of body may mean the going from body instead of embodiment. The embodiment as realization or limitation is connected with including aims and senses to our existential whole. The limit between life and death is investigated as well in the context of phenomenology of culture. The author maintains that the life is the more spacious the more we are close to death, because our time is directed also backwards, not only forwards. So the limits of time and space depend as well on our existential aims. Both the nurturance and permanent extension of limits between thinking and life guarantees the mobility of life. Straipsnis yra skirtas japonų klasikinės ukiyo-e raižinių estetinių ir meninių principų analizei. Jame plačiausiai tyrinėjamos japonų klasikinių raižinių atsiradimo sociokultūrinių, estetinių bei meninių principų ištako, nagrinėjami pagrindiniai istoriniai jų raidos etapai, įvairių tradicijų bei Yamalo-e, Kanö, Tosa mokyklų poveikis ukiyo-e estetinių bei meninių principų įsigalėjimui. Straipsnio pabaigoje glaustai aptariamas japonų raižybos poveikis japonizmo sąjūdžio sklaidai Vakaruose. įdėmiau pažvelgę į įvairių neeuropinių tautų meno istoriją iškart pastebime, kad tai nevienalytis meno rūšių ir formų sklaidos procesas, kuris skirtinguose civilizaciniuose pasauliuose turėjo savitą raidos logiką. Tolimųjų Rytų tautų meno raidos savitumą taip pat lėmė kitokie nei Vakaruose sociokultūriniai, ekonominiai, politiniai veiksniai, kiekvienoje konkrečioje civilizacijoje bei istoriniame tarpsnyje susiklostę menų hierarchijos principai. Kita vertus, meno istorija nėra, kaip įsivaizduoja daugelis klasikinių estetinių idealų įtakoje esančių vakariečių, susijusi vien tik su tapybos, skulptūros, grafikos darbais ar jų kūrėjais. Tai yra daugybės kitų meno formų, kartu ir pačios meno koncepcijos rutuliojimosi istorija. This article is dedicated to analysis of a classical Japanese ukiyo-e wood-cut esthetical and artistics principles. The main attention is inflicted into the foundations of the Japanese classical prints, sociocultural, aesthetical and artistical principles, also into analizing the core of the historical issues, influence of various traditions also schools of Yamato-e, Kanö, Tosa to the acknoledgement of ukiyo-e artistical and aesthetical principles. The conclusion in the end of the article is a concise explanation of Japanese wood-cut influence to the Japanese movement in the West. Obviously art history of a various non-european nations was a separate process of spreading artistic styles and forms, which had a unique logic in different civilizations. In the Far East the variosity of the process of art was influenced by different sociocultural, economical, political and other issues. The unique Japanese engraving was filled with egzotical, uknown world for the Western world, since wich in 19th century the absorbation of the Japanese aesthetics and artistic values began together with the impressionistic movement. Japanese art evolved in a wavy rythm because of their remoteness, not like the Chinese assimilating traditions. Althought ukiyo-e was developed as a reaction to an aesthetical idols and canonized rules to an aristhocratical painting, in 15-16th century artists affected by an influential schools of Kanö and Tosa paintings were obviously close in stylistical point of view, also a dailylife motives were involved. Two schools confronting and also close reflected similar ukiyo-e characteristics: affection to decoration, accent of visualized texture of objects, inner architecture. In the 18th century a numerous urban society appeared, which was formed by a strike to form a united and stabilized country. The whole conception of art also splitted, together with the new estate, the popular urban arts - ukiyo-e prints - occurence. Not only the common society everyday views, but the behaviour models, offending official oppinions was also felt. Taking into consideration the phenom enon of the coloured wood-cut print, it is very important paying attention that the ukiyo-e wood-cuts, not the classical painting works affected the Western art and aesthetical beliefs. Ukiyo-e print and not the com pulsory 1853 year trade union with the U.S.A. became the new orientalistic catalysator in the West. Japanese wood-cutting art forced amagnitudional orientalistic waves, "which helped the traditional Japanese aesthetical ideas and artistic forms to establish firmly in the Western culture". Japanese engraving stimulated impressionists and their numerous followers to see the colour, beauty of the surrounding world. It strenthened the new principles of composition and space modelling in the Western painting. That was clearly seen in the works of post-impressionist Ihul Gauguin's who used to say, "one can sacrifice all, for colour". A new possibility of constructing space with colour occured, so the three dimensional view could be perspected in a paradoxal two dimensional view. Ukiyo-e corresponded with the new needs of opposing artistic movement, also it was a revolutionary challenge for the old-fashioned Western painting. Not only ukiyo-e was a unique continuer of traditions in Japan, but it, cortesy of structure, developed decorating equ ipment system, scene and visual multifuntionality helped japanese eastetic ideas and artistic forms establish firmly in the Western world. Its influence was very important in the second half of 19th century and the beggining of the 20th, affecting impressionism, symbolism, "Art nouveau, Jugendstil", expressionism and other movements.

Stasys Ušinskas laikomas moderniojo lietuviškojo vitražo patriarchu, profesionaliosios vitražo mokyklos įkūrėju. Tačiau reikia pripažinti, kad šalia jo vitražų modernistinio monumentaliųjų kompozicijų stilizavimo reiškėsi ir romantiškos naujojo tradicionalizmo tendencijos. Modernistinį, novatorišką monumentaliųjų S. Ušinsko kompozicijų pobūdį tarpukario dailės kontekste atskleidė tyrinėtojai N. Tumėnienė, S. Budrys, L. Petrusevičiūtė ir kt. Jis, puikiai išmanydamas dailės istoriją, racionaliai išgrynino kiekvieno didžiojo meno stiliaus esmę, išskirdamas specifinius komponavimo principus, figūrų traktavimo ypatumus, stilistines charakteristikas. S. Ušinsko vitražai pasižymi architektonišku kompozicijos sandaros suvokimu ir dekoratyviu lokalios spalvos naudojimu bei "tapyba stiklu"- būtent tai ir yra stipriosios vitražo savybės. Dailininkas ant šių klasikinių komponavimo principų karkaso formavo modernias kompozicijas, kuriose atsispindėjo jo laiko estetika, ženklai, lietuviškosios liaudiškosios kultūros archetipai. Naujojo tradicionalizmo idėjoms plintant Lietuvos dailėje, klasikinių meno formų reabilitacijos akivaizdoje S. Ušinsko vitražų komponavimo principai regisi atliepiantys jo laikotarpio meno tendencijas. Klasikos ir modernizmo, krikščioniškosios ikonografijos kanonų ir tautinės tematikos darna būdinga dailininko kūrybai. Vitražistas niekada tiesiogiai nesekė senųjų stilių, todėl jo kūriniai nėra tiesioginė neostiliaus atmaina - vitražai alsuoja modernios epochos dvasia. Visapusiškas S. Ušinsko kūrybingumas nulėmė tai, kad šiandien Lietuvoje yra modernusis vitražas. Stasys Ušinskas is considered the patriarch of the modern Lithuanian stained glass and the founder of the professional stained glass school. However, one must admit that apart from stylization of modernistic monumental compositions of his stained glass, the romantic trends of the new traditionalism also manifested. The modernistic and innovative character of the monumental compositions of S. Ušinskas in the context of the interwar art was revealed by scholars N. Tumėnienė, S. Budrys, L. Petrusevičiūtė, and others. S. Ušinskas, being an art history expert, rationally distilled the essence of style of each great art by distinguishing the specific composition principles, figure treatment particularities and stylistic characteristics. S. Ušinskas’s stained glass characterizes with an architectonic comprehension of the composition, decorative use of the local colour and “glass painting”, which namely are the strengths of his stained glass. On the frame of the said classic composition principles S. Ušinskas formed modern compositions, which reflected the aesthetics, signs of the time and the archetypes of Lithuanian folk culture. As the ideas of new traditionalism were expanding in Lithuanian art, in the presence of rehabilitation of the classic art forms, the principles of composition of S. Ušinskas’s stained glass reflected the artistic trends of his period. The tune between classicism and modernism, the Christian iconography canons and national subjects is very characteristic of the artist’s work. S. Ušinskas never followed the old styles directly therefore his works are not a direct branch of the neo-style – his stained glass is full of the spirit of the modern epoch. Thanks to S. Ušinskas’s versatile creativity Lithuania has modern stained glass.

Straipsnyje aptariama pastaraisiais dešimtmečiais ryškėjanti nauja savita neklasikinės estetikos sritis - medicinos estetika. Apžvelgiamas jos radimosi kontekstas - kasdienybės estetikos slinktys, 1980 m. estetinės paradigmos lūžis, dabartiniai kasdienybės estetinimo postmodernioje kultūroje procesai, intensyvėjantis asmens savikūros kaip estetinio gyvenimo ir kūno sąryšis. Gvildenamos problematikos aspektu analizuojamos istorinės, kultūrinės, socialinės medicininio atvaizdo ištakos, medicininių atvaizdų dalyvavimas dabartiniame estetiniame patyrime. Atskleidžiami kai kurie esminiai medicinos grožio apraiškų aspektai bei momentai: teologijos ir medicinos suartėjimas, medicinos hermetiškumas, rituališkumas. Išskiriami pagrindiniai medicinos konstruktai, apie kuriuos jau formuojasi konkreti kasdienybės pasaulio estetinimo tradicija: medicininis kūnas, kuris greičiau yra Vakarų pasaulio kūno traktuotės dom inantė, tipiškos medicininės atvertys - medicinos instrumentais atvertas kūno vaizdas ir medicinos instrum ento vaizdas, patologinio vaizdo estetinimas. Išryškinamas medicinos filosofijos vaidmuo, darantis įtaką pamatiniams medicinos estetinimo pokyčiams; atskleidžiamas popkultūros, vartotojiškos visuomenės procesų poveikis medicinai būdingo ar jos kuriamo grožio sampratai. Nurodomi būdingi klasikinio ir postmodernistinio meno pavyzdžiai, žymintys medicinos estetikos teritoriją, jos plitimą bei transformacijas. Straipsnyje siekiama išryškinti paties objekto - medicinos grožio virsmų ir apraiškų dinamiškumą, atvirumą, potencialumą bei betarpiškumą. The article offers a review of a new original field of non-dassical aesthetics, emerging in the last decades - the medical aesthetics. The contents of its origin is disclosed, touching upon the shifts of everyday aesthetics, the turning point in aesthetical paradigm of 1980, today's processes of making the everyday aesthetic in the postmodernist culture as well as the intensifying relation between the personal self-creation, like an aesthetic life and body. Historical, cultural and sodai sources of the medical image as well as partidpation of medical images in the today's aesthetic experience are analysed in the aspect of the problem under review. Some of the essential medical beauty manifestation aspects and moments are disclosed like the feeders of the aesthetic plane: closer relation between the theology and the m edidne, hermetirity of medicine, rituality of medidne. The basic medical constructs, being the core for the particular everyday world's aesthetics tradition to form around are separated: the medical body, rather the Western dominant of body treatment, the typical medical openings view of the body, opened with the help of medical instruments and view of the medical instruments as well as making the pathological image aesthetic. Role of the medical philosophy is exposed - it is influencing the basic shifts in making the medicine aesthetic - as well as impact of the consuming social processes upon the conception of beauty, characteristic to medicine or created by medicine. Symptomatic examples of the classical and postmodernist art, noting the territory of medical aesthetics, its spreading and transformations, are mentioned. The article is sought to elucidate the dynamics, openness, potentiality and spontaneity of the subject - the medical beauty transformation and manifestation.

Straipsnyje siekiama atkreipti dėmesį į du su šventųjų relikvijų funkcionavimu susijusius momentus: 1) Šv. Mišių liturgiją reglamentuojančių XVIII a. leidinių iliustracijų įtaka Lietuvoje plitusių relikvijorių formoms ir ypač jų išdėstymui ant altorių; 2) empirinės medžiagos pagrindu supažindinti su iki šiol meno objektais nelaikytais, beveik netyrinėtais ir sparčiai nykstančiais auksakalystės sričiai nepriskirtinais relikvijoriais. Bažnytinio Tridento Susirinkimo (1545–1563) nutarimų buvo reglamentuota liturgijos, altorių puošybos ir relikvijų saugojimo bei išstatymo tvarka. Tą, kad ir netiesiogiai patvirtina potridentinių Mišiolų tekstai, ten talpintos iliustracijos bei rankraštiniuose dokumentuose dvasininkų ranka daryti altorių piešiniai. Nors nei XVIII a. Mišiolų tekstai, nei leidinių iliustracijos nepateikia tiesioginių nuorodų į relikvijų garbinimą, tačiau bažnytinės dailės tyrinėtojams leidžia įsivaizduoti liturgine prasme tvarkingą altorių, tarp kurio, jei ne privalomų, tai bent pageidautinų atributų XVIII a. yra nurodomos savotiškos relikvijų „galerijos“, komponuotos ant mensos vienoje eilėje su altoriniu kryželiu ir žvakėmis. Lietuvoje išlikę mums rūpimi relikvijoriai, pagal jų atlikimo būdą gali būti skirstomi į keletą grupių ir verčia daryti prielaidas apie skirtingų vienuolijų (ar vienuolynų) „dirbtuves“ bei gaminimo tradicijas. Reikia pastebėti, kad griežtų ribų tarp vienos ar kitos grupės nubrėžti negalima, nes daugelyje išlikusių relikvijorių dekoras neretai yra mišrus ir daugiau ar mažiau tinka tiek vienos, tiek ir kitos grupės apibūdinimui. The article seeks to draw attention to two moments related to functioning of the relics of the saints: 1) the impact of illustrations of publications of the 18th century regulating liturgy of masses on the forms of reliquaries common in Lithuania and especially on their arrangement on altars; 2) on the basis of empirical material to acquaint people with the reliquaries that have not been investigated yet and that are attributed to the sphere of jeweller’s art. By decision of the Trident Meeting of the Church (1545–1563) the procedure for liturgy, decoration of altars and storing and exposing reliquaries was regulated. This is indirectly confirmed by the texts of post-trident missals, the illustrations placed therein, as well as drawing of altars made by the hand of priests in manuscript documents. Though neither the texts of the missals of the 18th century nor illustrations of publications provide direct references to worship of reliquaries, investigators into church art allow one to imagine an orderly altar from the liturgical point of view. Peculiar “galleries” of reliquaries are indicated as a desirable attribute. The reliquaries that we are interested and that have survived in Lithuania can be divided into several groups and this allows certain suppositions about “workshops” of monasteries and traditions of the article to be drawn. It should be noted that no strict line can be drawn between one or another group because décor in many existing reliquaries is often mixed and is suitable to characterise one or another group.

Pradžioje parodoma, kokia prasme įmanoma kalbėti apie antikinę estetiką, išskiriami trys sąvokos "antikinė estetika" aspektai. Įvardijami pagrindiniai klasikinės estetikos, kurią įprasta sieti su antikine estetika bei antikiniu grožio idealu, ir neklasikinės estetikos bruožai, analizuojamas klasikinės ir neklasikinės estetikos santykis, sąvokų "klasikinė estetika" ir "neklasikinė estetika" reliatyvumas. Vėliau pereinama prie neišsakymo ir neišsakomumo kategorijomis išreiškiamų neklasikinės estetikos apraiškų Platono filosofijoje nagrinėjimo. Atkreipiamas dėmesys į tai, kad straipsnyje analizuojamas ne Platono požiūris į grožio prigimtį, meną ar visuomeninę meno paskirtį, o "paties Platono filosofavimo stiliaus estetika, t. y. platoniškosios minties estetika, platoniškasis minties braižas". Neklasikinės neišsakymo ir neišsakomumo kategorijos pasitelkiamos interpretuojant platoniškąją eido (idėjos) sampratą, Platono ironiją, rašto kritiką, kai kuriuose dialoguose aptinkamus dėstymo trūkius ir palinodinį teksto suskaidymą, nuolatinį proto (nous) viršenybės prieš svarstymą (logos) akcentavimą, įvairiais pavidalais iškylančius Platono svarstymus apie dalies ir visumos santykį, kai kuriuos filosofinius Platono mitus bei juose sutinkamus vaizdus ir analogijas (antai uždangės vaizdą ir sielos kaip sparnuotos dvikinkės analogiją Faidre). Neišsakymo ir neišsakomumo kategorijos taip pat siejamos su faktu, jog daugumos Platono dialogų rezultatai yra neigiami (pvz., "Teaitete" po trijų bandymų taip ir nepavyksta apibrėžti, kas yra pažinim as, "Faidone" Sokratui nepasiseka suformuluoti neginčijam ų, jokių abejonių nekeliančių sielos nemirtingumo įrodymų). Atkreipiamas dėmesys į tai, kad Septintajam e Platono laiške (darant išlygą, kad jis autentiškas) penktoji (aukščiausia) pažinimo pakopa įvardijama kaip neišsakoma. Parodoma, kad neišsakymo bei neišsakomumo kategorijas įmanoma susieti ir su pačia literatūrine dialogo forma, būdinga Platono tekstams, su Platono vengimu dėstyti kokias nors teorijas savo vardu, taip pat su "Timajuje" pasakojamu tikėtinu mitu (eikos muthos) bei šiame mite aptinkam a priėm ėjos (hypodokhe), kuri kitaip dar įvardijama kaip "tarpas", "erdvė" ar "erdvinis tarpas" (khom), sąvoka. Pabaigoje daroma išvada, kad neklasikinės estetikos apraiškų graikų klasikai itin reprezentatyviai atstovaujančio Platono tekstuose išryškinimas leidžia sugriauti daugelį stereotipinių Platono filosofijos interpretacijų, taip pat atskleisti pačių sąvokų "klasikinė estetika" ir "neklasikinė estetika" reliatyvumą. The article discusses the cases and forms of reticence and ineffability in Plato's philosophy as manifestations of nonclassical aesthetics. First of all, the author investigates in what sense one is entitled to speak of Greek aesthetics in the first place. Three aspects of the notion of Greek esthetics are spelled out. What is under investigation is the aesthetics of Plato's thought, the aesthetics of his mode of doing and presenting philosophy, the aesthetics of his cognitive style, not Plato's attitude towards the nature of beauty or his views on the problems of art. The author focusses on Plato's theory of Forms, on the dialogue form of Platonic "oeuvre", on Plato's philosophical myths, on the attempts at the definition of knowlegde, on the efforts to prove the immortality of the soul, on the stages of knowlegde-gaining process in Plato's Seventh Letter (especially the in effable fifth stage), and some other issues. The philosophical problems of reticence and in effability as them anifestations of non classical aesth etics in classical Greek tradition are placed in the context of Greek art. The conclusion is that the distinction between the classical and nonclassical modes of reasoning as well as the distinction between the classical and non classical aesth etics are purely theoretical distinctions which should be left behind at some higher level of understanding.

Elektroninių medijų menas Lietuvoje pradėjo plėtotis dešimtojo dešimtmečio viduryje, tačiau prielaidų šio meno raidai atsirado anksčiau - devintojo dešimtmečio antros pusės tarpdisciplininių projektų, pašto meno, šviesos instaliacijų ir videomeno praktikose. Tuomet suaktyvėjo neoavangardistinės tendencijos audiovizualiniuose bei vizualiniuose menuose, pradėtos diegti tarpdisciplininės ir subversyvios strategijos bei ėmė formuotis savita medijų meno kalba ir diskursas. Straipsnyje siekiama glaustai pristatyti elektroninės kultūros erdves Lietuvoje, išskiriant reikšmingiausius internetinio meno projektus, elektroninio aktyvizmo apraiškas, kryptingai ir periodiškai medijų kultūrą savo darbuose reflektuojančius menininkus ir reikšmingiausius jų darbus bei medijų kultūros raidai reikšmingas institucines ir privačias iniciatyvas. Lietuvoje nėra aiškių ir ryškių elektroninio meno krypčių, nes nėra institucijos ar menininkų (ideologų) grupės, formuojančios šalies elektroninio meno kultūrą ir padedančios šiam menui tapti instituciniam. Menininkų, taikančių elektronines medijas, darbuose dominuoja tradicinės (lotu tech) ir vos keletas kūrėjų inkorporuoja modernias (high tech) medijas į savo kūrinius. Tačiau menininkai vis labiau domisi progresyviomis technologijomis, ypač jauni kūrėjai ir medijų aktyvistai. Dėl kasmet profesionaliau dirbančių elektroninio meno festivalių ir kitų renginių organizatorių veiklos intensyvėja ryšiai su kitų šalių medijų meno ir kultūros kūrėjais, tai suteikia naujų impulsų projektams, padeda tapti tarptautinių tinklų nariais. Electronic media art in Lithuania commenced its development in the middle of the nineties However, the preconditions of such development emerged earlier – in the practices of interdisciplinary projects, postal art, light installations and video art of the second half of the eighties, when neo-avant-garde trends in the visual and audiovisual arts intensified, the interdisciplinary and subversive strategies were commenced to be implemented and a peculiar media art language and discourse commenced its formation. The article aims at a brief introduction of the electronic culture areas in Lithuania by distinguishing the most significant Internet art projects, expression of electronic activities, the artists, periodically reflecting the media culture in their works and the institutional and private initiatives, significant to the media culture development. There are no clear and vivid directions of electronic arts in Lithuania, since there is no institution or a group of artists/ideologists, forming the electronic art culture of the country and helping the art to become an institutional one. Traditional (low tech) media are dominating in the works of the artists, applying electronic media, only several of them incorporate modern (high tech) media. However, the artists, especially young ones and media activists, take more and more interest in progressive technologies. Due to the electronic art festivals, which function more and more professionally each year and the activities of organizers of other events, the connections of media art and culture creators of other countries are intensifying, which gives new impulse to the projects and helps to become members of international networks.

Nuo kasdienės buities iki filosofinio būties apmąstymo, nuo romantiškos meilės iki visą gyvenimą skaudžiai rėžiančių jos šukių, nuo neįmenamos paslapties iki akivaizdaus tragizmo, nuo psichologiškai niuansuotų situacijų iki neišsprendžiamų koalizijų, nuo moters ir apskritai žmogaus prigimtyje slypinčių priešingybių iki istorinio laiko diktuojamų sąlygų ir jo lemiamų sprendimų – tokiais parametrais galima apibrėžti Apučio novelistikoje vaizduojamų moterų gyvenimus ir likimus, charakterius ir situacijas, kuriose jie lemtingai išbandomi. The article analyses and interprets several stories with women portraits in the foreground written by Juozas Aputis, the winner of the National prize. From everyday life to philosophical reflection of existence, from romantic love to its hurtful splinters extending fro life, from deep secret to manifested tragedy, from psychologically subtle situation to unsolvable collisions, from the opposition hidden in the nature of a women and human being in general to the conditions defined by historical time and its crucial decisions. These parameters define the portrayed women lives and fates, characters and situations where they are fatally tested. Realistic picture of life, deep psychological exposure of the personality, relative, parabola and symbolic view show the diversity of the means of stylistic expression. Women in Aputis stories significantly enrich understanding of human being not only in his creation but in the whole Lithuanian literature as well.

Pagrindinis straipsnio tikslas - apibrėžti ir sugrupuoti XX a. 6-ojo dešimtmečio pabaigos - 7-ojo dešimtmečio pradžios Lietuvos spaudoje atsiradusius tekstus apie vieną iš draustų modernizmo krypčių - abstrakcionizmą. Taip pat analizuojama, kaip sekėsi patiems dailės kritikams ir menininkams susigyventi su partijos mokymais dailės srityje. Taip norima atskleisti, kokio atgarsio (viešo, skelbto spaudoje) jie sulaukė vadinamosiose diskusijų tribūnose arba specialiai siūlomose temose, užsakytuose straipsniuose. Šalia išskiriami pavyzdžiai, neatitikę normų, ir dėl to nutylimi. Nepaisant įvairių nesąžiningų kovos su modernistinėmis kryptimis būdų, sovietinė spauda galėjo tik konstatuoti savas fikcijas: girti socrealizmo kūrinius, peikti išsišokėlius, nutylėti keistesnius naujus meno kūrinius, dirbtinai sukelti auklėjamąsias diskusijas arba nutylėti neišsprendžiamas problemas. O dailės sritis pamažu plėtėsi atliekant naujesnius bandymus, kuriuos vis sunkiau buvo suvaldyti per centrui pavaldžią spaudą. Nagrinėjant šią temą naudojamasi peržiūrėtais spaudoje paskelbtais oficialiais Komunistų partijos paliepimais literatūros ir meno sričiai, įvairiomis apžvalgomis (Pasaulinio jaunimo ir studentų festivalio dailės parodos, Respublikinės dailės parodos ir kitų parodų apžvalgos), perspausdintais tendencingais, konjunktūriniais straipsniais apie abstrakcionizmą. Analizė apsibrėžiama ne pagal chruščiovinio valdymo periodą, bet pagal abstrakčioje meno "problemos" atsiradimo metus. Todėl kaip atskaitos taškas imami 1956-1957 metai, kai spaudoje pirmą kartą išviešintos "klaidos" meno srityje. The aim of the article is to define and group the texts on one of the banned directions of modernism – abstractionism, which emerged in Lithuanian publications in the end of the fifties and the beginning of the sixties of the 20th century. In addition, the article analyzes the attempts of the art critics and artists to withstand the teachings of the Communist Party in the area of art and reveal the publicized response to the said attempts from the so called discussion forums and in the specially ordered articles. The article also names the examples, which failed to comply with the norms and thus were concealed. Notwithstanding the unfair methods of fighting the modernistic directions, the Soviet print could only state its own fictions: advocate the social realistic works, reprehend the misdemeaned artists, conceal stranger pieces of art, artificially raise educational discussions or conceal the unresolved problems while the art gradually developed with new trials, which were not controlled by the centrally controlled print. When discussing the subject the official orders of the Communist Party with regard to literature and art, published in the press, different overviews of the art exhibition of the World Students and Youth Festival, the Republican art exhibition and other exhibitions, as well as the reprinted tendentious articles on abstractionism were used. The analysis is defined not according to the period of N. Khrushchev’s rule, but rather according to the years of emergence of the “problem” of the abstract art. Therefore the period of 1956-1957, when the “errors” in the area of art were publicized in the press for the first time, is taken as a reference point.

Straipsnyje "Estetinė laisvė ir socialinės raidos ribos postmoderistiniame kontekste" analizuojama meno socialinės atsakomybės problema. Svarstomas socialinių meno ribų klausimas postmodernizmo kontekste. Reprezentuojantys postmodernizmą literatūros kūriniai, parodos bei performansai pasirinkti kaip šio filosofinio tyrimo objektai. Autorė atskleidžia patį postmodernizmo fenomeną ir ypač meno pasipriešinimą bet kokios rūšies apriorizmui. Pasitelkiant Heideggerio meno tiesos koncepciją, pripažįstama meno teisė į psichologinę - egzistencinę laisvę, kaip nevaržomą kūrybinės savirealizacijos išsklaidą. Sutinkama su netiesiogine meno atsakomybe: menas socialinę prasmę įgauna būdamas atsakingas pats sau, gelmiškai motyvuodamas save kaip tokį. Pripažįstant, jog menas ne vien deskripciškai atveria, bet ir formuoja adresatą, svarbu, kad tas menas nebūtų pernelyg imitaciškai priimimamas, - tuomet jis praturtins savimonę. The article "Art and Values: Aesthetic Freedom and Social consequences within the Postmodernist Context" analyses the issue of art’s social responsibility. An attempt is made to consider the limits of social individual art freedom, to clarify whether it is not a socially committing experience. Postmodernism and its artistic expressions in exhibitions, performances and literature have been selected as objects of philosophical research. The author reveals the very phenomenon of postmodernism, and especially art’s resistance to any sort of apriority. Artistic individual and social dimensions are distinguished – the article maintains the position, which believes in art’s ability to acquire the right of a discourse type of openness. Thus, it is important not to accept it too imitatively.

Michelis Foucault (1926-1984) - vienas originaliausių XX a. mąstytojų, pripažintas naujosios nonkonformistinės prancūzų intelektinio elito kartos lyderis, kartos, kuriai, kaip prisipažįsta pats filosofas, J.-P. Sartre'as ir M. Merleau Ponty iš pradžių buvo pavyzdys, tačiau vėliau "netikėtai tapo intelektinio muziejaus dalimi". 1966 m. išspausdinus knygą Les mots et les chose s (Žodžiai ir daiktai), jis iškart tapo studentijos dievaičiu ir labiausiai akademinės jaunuomenės cituojamu autoriumi. Atvėręs naujus probleminius laukus, jis stipriai paveikė dabartinės humanistikos ir estetinės minties raidą, joje įsigalėjusias neklasikines tyrinėjimo strategijas bei metodus. Kaip teigia J. Baudrillard'as, „Foucault sustojo dabartinės revoliucingos sistemos prieangyje, kurio jis taip ir nepanoro peržengti".

Vydūno estetika yra jo kultūros koncepcijos dalis. Ši remiasi indiškąja vedantos panenteistine koncepcija, kurioje būtis aiškinama kaip visaapimanti dvasinė realybė – absoliutas. Pasaulis yra materialus to absoliuto pasireiškimas, kartu ir jo savimonės įkūnijimas, savęs suvokimo priemonė. Absoliutas vienu metu yra ir transcendentinis (egzistuoja kaip gryna dvasia), ir imanentinis (egzistuoja kaip pasaulis). Evoliucijos keliu pasaulis sąmonėja ir laipsniškai grįžta į pirminę dvasinę būtį. Žmogus – pasaulio būtybė, jau pasiekusi dvasinę būtį. Jo, kaipo dvasinės esybės, veikla iš esmės yra kultūros kūrimas. Yra trys tos kultūros raiškos formos – dorovė, menas ir mokslas. Menas yra pati akivaizdžiausia žmogaus kūrybos galių pasireiškimo forma. Gamtoje egzistuojąs grožis yra dieviškojo kūrybos vyksmo dalis, menu jau reiškiasi kuriančioji žmogaus dvasinė (dieviškoji) esmė. Menas esąs žmogaus dvasios materializacijos, jos užfiksavimo, įdaiktinimo, jos pavertimo jusliškai suvokiamais, patiriamais objektais sfera. Suvokėjas turįs patirti kuriančiojo menininko dvasios poveikį. Menininko misija – savo kūryba įtakoti dvasinį žmogaus, tautos ir žmonijos šviesėjimą. Meninė kūryba – individualios dvasios raiška, todėl – individualus savitumas jai būtinas. Kadangi kiekvienas menininkas priklauso kuriai nors tautai, jo kūryboje atsispindi ir tautos dvasinis savitumas. Skirtingų meno rūšių specifika nulemta skirtingų materijos egzistavimo formų, su kuriomis žmoniškumo esmė susiduria bei kurias panaudoja savo reiškimuisi. Menas žmonijos gyvenime užims vis svarbesnį vaidmenį Vydūnas’ aesthetics is a part of his conception of culture. This conception is based on pantheistic Indian concept of Vedanta, which explains existence as all-encompassing spiritual reality– the absolute. The world is a materialistic manifestation of that absolute, at the same time incarnation of its self-consciousness, an instrument of self-perception. The absolute simultaneously is transcendental (it exists as pure spirit) and immanent (exists as a world). By way of evolution, the world is becoming more conscious and gradually returns to initial spiritual condition. A human is a being of the world, who has already reached spiritual existence. His activity, as a spiritual being, in essence, is creation of culture. There are three forms of expressing this culture – morality, art and science. Art is the most obvious form of expressing human creative powers. Beauty that exists in the nature is a part of divine act of creation, in art then spiritual (divine) essence of creative man is manifested. Art is area where human spirit materializes, is recorded, embodied, transformed into objects that can be perceived, experienced by senses. Perceiving individual has to experience the effect of creating artist’s spirit. The mission of an artist is to influence spiritual enlightenment of a human, nation, and humanity through his art. Artistic creation is manifestation of individual spirit, for this reason individual uniqueness is essential to it. Since every artist belongs to a certain nation, his art also mirrors spiritual uniqueness of a nation.

Tapytojo Ferdinando Ruščico (1870–1936) veikla nuo 1908 m., kai menininkas atsikėlė gyventi į Vilnių, iki 1922 m. pavasario, kai vadinamoji „Vidurio Lietuva“ buvo galutinai prijungta prie Lenkijos, pažymėta vienu gana reikšmingu bruožu – Ruščicas palaipsniui iš menininko virto visuomenine figūra. Vilniuje jis ir toliau kūrė, tačiau kūrybos pobūdis radikaliai pasikeitė: menininkas nebetapė, o įsitraukė į leidybos, teatro, pedagogikos ir kitokią veiklą. Šiuo periodu palaipsniui brendo ir Ruščico pilietinės pozicijos pasikeitimai, nulėmę ir politinius meninės veiklos niuansus. Straipsnyje aptariamos bendrosios Lietuvos bajorų tapatumo problemos, iškilusios XIX a. pabaigoje – XX a. pradžioje ir konkretūs Ruščico biografijos faktai, leidžiantys daryti tam tikras prielaidas apie menininko pilietinę laikyseną prieš Pirmąjį pasaulinį karą ir 1919 m. iškilus Vilniaus klausimui. Išskiriami trys menininko veiklos aspektai: krajovcų politinėms pažiūroms artima veikla, simbolinė istorinių įvykių fiksacija ir Lenkijos respublikos ekspansyvią politiką reprezentuojanti veikla The artist Ferdynand Ruszczyc’s activities related to the political life in Vilnius from 1908 to 1922 are discussed. Attention is drawns to the issue of noblemen’s national identity as a context for Ruszczyc’s civic activities. The ties of the artist with the Vilnius atmosphere charged with Krajowcy ideas and political aspects of his artistic activities after World War I are examined. The topics presented in the paper (national identity of noblemen and the dispute over the Vilnius region) have already been discussed in historical works, but the political aspects of the work of Ruszczyc and other artists remain an under researched area in art history. The article presents some facts to show Ruszczyc’s support of Krajowcy’s ideas: the publication of the Tygodnik Wileński magazine (1910–1911), Michail Römer’s and his initiative Village of 1911 (though unrealized), and the exhibition of folk art and handicrafts held in 1913 in Vilnius. It is noted that political themes in Ruszczyc’s art appeared in 1919, though his works of the period presented interpretations of historical events rather than conveyed the ideology of Józef Pilsudski; their political content was reflected in the symbolic rather than representational dimension. Later, following the establishment of the so-called Central Lithuania (Litwa Środkowa) by the Poles, Ruszczyc’s creative work assumed a different character – the representational function became more evident, expressing his loyalty to the new Polish state

Šiame straipsnyje bandysiu pažvelgti į psichopatologiją, psichopatologinę ir profesionaliąją meninę išraišką komunikaciniame kontekste - tiek patologiškais vadinamuose santykiuose, tiek estetinėje kaitoje, pabrėždamas interaktyvų transper- sonalinę sąveiką, t. y. minėtus reiškinius traktuodamas kaip bendravimo būdus dabartinio estetinio diskurso sąlygomis. Daugiausia dėmesio skirsiu konkretiems estetinės komunikacijos aspektams ir jų poveikiui kai kurioms prasminėms patologijos ar meninės kūrybos kategorijoms. Taip pat mėginsiu komunikacinėje interakcijoje rasti tokių konceptualių zonų, kuriose patologijos ir meninės ekspresijos „painiojimas" būtų pagrjstesnis. In this article the pathology, psychopathological and contemporary professional visual arts expression deal with communication context. The role of interpersonal interaction in these fields in the postmodern epoch is accented. In view of the concrete context or the nature of communication's situation, the conceptual aesthetic or pathological models are treating. In this case the normal or pathological, the artistic or not artistic are losing the matter. There are no stable senses. Any schizophrenic denial of communication in this context is the correspond response the absurd existential situation. There is no anticommunication. The visual art or pathological expression (verbal, visual, bodily, etc) deal as the communication's paradoxes or antinomies of discourse in broader sense. The changed notion of contemporary visual arts or pathology's concepts lets the new convergence of these fields in late postmodern culture.

Vienas iš šiuolaikinio lietuvių meno mitų sietinas su "neinstitucinio meno" ar "alternatyvaus meno" sąvokomis. Tai, kad tokios sąvokos paprastai nėra aiškiau artikuliuojamos, tik padeda mitams tarpti toliau ir, savo ruožtu, institucionalizuotis. Neegzistuojant nei apibrėžtiems antiinstituciniems naratyvams, nei kokiai nors neinstitucinės veiklos institucijai, gali pasirodyti, jog neistitucinė dailė yra tiesiog ta, kuri eksponuojama senamiesčio griuvėsiuose arba yra kuriama vargšų studentų iš jiems prieinamų resursų. Paanalizavus narystės, atstovavimo ir kitokius institucinio "atskyrimo" principus, dar labiau išryškėja to paties reiškinio skirtingos - meninė, socialinė, etc. - vertinimo galimybės. Nieko nuostabaus, jog daug Lietuvos dailininkų sąjungos narių gavo paramą iš Šorošo Šiuolaikinio meno centro ar eksponavo darbus ŠMC, nors tradiciškai meno pasaulyje esame įpratę girdėti tik apie ŠMC ir LDS priešpriešą ar bent jau skirtingas įtakos sferas. One of the myths in the Lithuanian contemporary art relates to the idea of "non-institutional" or "alternative" activities. This phenomenon is not articulated in a more conceptual way in contemporary art research and this is exactly what helps myths to evolve and eventually become institutionalized. On the other hand, many art critics acknowledged already in the middle of the last decade that real alternatives to the establishment didn't exist in Lithuanian art. Categories of "young", "contemporary" or "non-traditional" art would be of another kind. The article argues that the exhibition "Ten Years of Non-institutional Activity" that was organized at the Vilnius Contemporary Art Center in 2004 gives some unintended by the organizers answers about contemporary politics of real cultural marginalization. It is important to ascertain that the exhibition, which supposedly represented a decade of Lithuanian noninstitutional artistic endeavours, in fact only established the historical estimation of yet another central institution - the Lithuanian Interdisciplinary Artists' Association. At the same time a variety of other less visible initiatives in Vilnius were ignored. A "non-initiated" visitor to this exhibition could only admit an intentionally anti-historic and seemingly attractive visual play of the curator. Those who did not want to confirm to mealy-mouthed arrangements of such an anniversary could have inquired historical circumstances themselves for making their own definitions of "non-institutional" activities.

The name of the Lithuanian artist Janina Monkutė-Marks, who has been living overseas for many years, has been not long ago known to a narrow circle of the people interested in art and investigating her work. Today, she is famed not only for her works but also for the Janina Monkutė- Marks Museum-Gallery opened in Kėdainiai a couple of years ago. The publication thoroughly presents the artist’s biography and discusses her work. The artist J. Monkutė-Marks has been active in the field of art life of Lithuanian émigrés and that of America over four decades. She has organized more than twenty exhibitions of her works in the most varied exhibition halls. The great majority of her works (painting and graphic), covering the period between 1958–2001, were brought to Lithuania on her own initiative. The carpets, tapestries and other textile works woven in 1970–2001 also found their niche in five halls of the reconstructed building (reconstruction architect Algimantas Lučkaitis) of the early 20th c. In the late 2004 Janina Monkutė-Marks was awarded the Kėdainiai Region Culture Prize for her contribution to the development of the region’s culture and a pithy collaboration with the district educational institutions. In 1989, the Lithuanian Art Museum received a present from J. Monkutė-Marks: a color linocut from the cycle People on the Journey created in 1968 (tripartite, 123/115; ED 149869; G 23240). It is the first and as yet an only work by this prominent Lithuanian artist kept in the Lithuanian Art Museum.

Tekste glaustai analizuojama tikrovės reprodukavimo ir simuliavimo problema šiuolaikiniame elektroninių medijų mene, akcentuojant įvairių reprodukavimo, įrašymo, informacijos apdorojimo bei demonstravimo technikų ir technologijų įtaką meno kūrinio santykiui su tikrove. Esminiai pokyčiai prasidėjo su skaitmeninių medijų ekspansija į meno sritį, kuri praplėtė audiovizualinio meno funkcijų spektrą: be registravimo, reprodukavimo atsirado simuliavimo ir laisvo tikrovės modeliavimo galimybė. Pakito ne tik funkcijos, bet ir pagrindiniai artefaktų bruožai: vis dažnesni tapo pasikartojimai bei variacijos ir interaktyvumas bei virtualumas, o autentiškumas ir tobulumas, buvę būdingi tradiciniam-imitaciniam tikrovės vaizdavimui, visiškai prarado svarbą, tapo ne tik dekonstrukcijos, bet ir destrukcijos objektu. Realybė prarado autoriteto poziciją skaitmeninių medijų menuose, ypač kompiuterinėje grafikoje, interaktyviose instaliacijose, multimedijos ir virtualios realybės projektuose. Skirtingo pobūdžio informacija, užfiksuota kompiuterio atmintyje turi skaitmeninę išraišką, binarinį kodą. Šie kodai programinės ir kompiuterinės įrangos pagalba paverčiami garsine, tekstine, vaizdine informacija, kurią galima modeliuoti, kopijuoti, kokybiškai reprodukuoti ir įvairiais būdais skleisti elektroninių laikmenų pagalba ar tinklo erdvėje. Susiduriama su iš esmės naujomis kūrimo, reprodukavimo ir platinimo galimybėmis, naujais realybės simuliavimo ir modeliavimo būdais, įgalinančiais ne tik naikinti ribą tarp realaus ir virtualaus pasaulių bei kurti savitą heterogenišką virtualų metapasaulį. The text concisely analyzes the problem of reproduction and simulation of reality in contemporary art of electronic media; emphasis is put on the influence of various reproduction, recording, information processing and demonstration techniques and technologies on relation between pieces of art and reality. Fundamental changes began with the expansion of digital media into the field of art, the circumstance that extended the range of audiovisual art functions: apart from registration, reproduction, there appeared a possibility of simulation and free modeling of reality. Changes affected not only functions, but also main features of artifacts: ever more frequently, one comes across repetitions and variations as well as interactivity and virtuality, while authenticity and perfection, which have been typical of traditional-imitating depiction of reality, completely lost importance, it became the object of deconstruction and destruction. Reality has lost the position of authority in digital media arts, especially in the field of computer graphics, interactive installations, multimedia and virtual reality projects. Information of heterogeneous type, recorded in computer memory is expressed digitally. This digital code is turned into audio, textual, visual information, which can be modeled, copied, reproduced in high quality and distributed through a variety of electronic storage devices or in the hyper space. Authors face brand new possibilities for creation, reproduction, and distribution, new ways of simulating and modeling reality, which allow erasing the boundary between real and virtual worlds and creating unique, heterogenic, virtual meta world.

Dvarų kultura Lietuvoje gyvavo kelis šimtmečius. Jos palikimas - Lietuvos Didžiojo kunigaikščio rūmų, didikų, Bažnyčios hierarchų kaupti meno kūriniai, rašytiniai ir istoriniai paminklai, bibliotekos, archyvai. Dabar kadaise aristokratijos puoselėtą prabangią ir turtingą kultūrą liudija tik jos fragmentai - išlikę architektūriniai dvarų ansambliai, meno kūriniai ir jų kolekcijos, archyvuose bei bibliotekose saugomi dažnai pavieniai arba tik labai specifiniai - siauros srities dokumentai ir pan. Todėl tyrinėjant garsių giminių istoriją, rūmų architektūrą, parkus, meno kolekcijas, praeities kultūrinį gyvenimą sunku išvengti faktų fragmentiškumo, stinga išsamesnių šaltinių, apibendrinamųjų darbų. Lietuvos dvarų istorijoje minėtinas Kairėnų dvaras, XIX a. pirmojoje pusėje turėjęs nemažos reikšmės Vilniaus visuomeniniam ir kultūriniam gyvenimui. Tuo metu dvarą valdė grafai Darata ir Juozapas Lopacinskiai. Ši giminė priklausė mažiau garsių LDK didikų sluoksniui, tačiau daug jos atstovų pasižymėjo kryptinga valstybine, kultūrine, visuomenine veikla, buvo mokslo, meno, švietimo mecenatai. Tai Žemaičių vyskupas Ignas Domininkas Lopacinskis, vaivada Mikalojus Tadas Bernardas Lopacinskis, pramonės ir technikos mokslų kūrėjas Jonas Nikodemas Lopacinskis, XX a. archyvininkas ir kraštotyrininkas, istorikas Euzebįjušas Lopacinskis. Tolimesnis Kairėnų likimas nebuvo toks palankus. Dvaro ekonominė galia nebepajėgė tenkinti išlaidaus gyvenimo poreikių, prabangių grafienės kultūrinės veiklos užmojų. Kairėnų dvaro kultūrinis gyvenimas nunyko, ypač po 1857 m., mirus grafienei Daratai. The estate of Kairėnai which is a worth to be recognised throughout the history of Lithuanian estates was of not a little significance to Vilnius' public and cultural life in the early 19lh century. Meanwhile the estate belonged to the ducal family of Juozapas and Darata Lopacinskiai. It was famous for its orchestra and theatre that functioned under the quardianship of Duchess Darata Morikonytė-Lopacinska. Due to her care Kairėnai became the hearth of culture known by, as her contemporaries had it, the "Kairėnai way of life". In the summer time Vilnius' nobility would visit concerts and performances to see their favourite comedies by the outstanding nineteenth century playright Alesandras Fredra. An abundance of significant facts on cultural environment in Kairėnai was presented in the memoirs "W Wilnie i w dworach litewskich 1815-1843" by Gabrijela Günther-Puzynina, a writer and a close friend to the family of Juozapas and Darata Lopacinskiai. The book provides historical and cultural events and gives a realistic picture of Lithuanian estates and particularly of the life of Vilnius' aristocracy. Duchess Darata Lopacinska's cultural interests, needs and ties were of a wide range. Her home in Vilnius and Kairėnai was a place where outstanding and noted people would get together - the poets Tomas Zanas, Adamas Mickiewiczius, Antanas Odyniecas, the singer and photographer Achilles Giuseppe, the physician and professor of Vilnius university Jozefas Mianowskis and others. The Duchess went on countless trips abroad visiting many different foreign countries. At her residence in Paris Darata Lopacinska was an enthusiastic hostess of banquets - concerts where numerous celebrities would give their performances. Her daughter Juzefą Lopacinska was given piano lessons by Frederic Chopin. The surviving letters from archives tell us about broad cultural and public relationships of the Lopacinskiai. Part of the private archive of the Lopacinskiai family is housed in the archives of the history of the Lithuanian state in the fund of the Vilnius Academic Friends' Association. The catalog of the Kairėnai estate's library was found in it. According to the record of the library collection for the period 1863 to 1880 the library contained books and items of editions in quantities of 6466 covering the literature on theatre, music, religion including studies of the most prominent philosophers and playrights, collections of poetry and prose, pieces of works, antique tragedies and comedies, and the like. Regrettably the files of the above archive do not contain documents on activities and cultural ties of the estate of Kairėnai as supplementary information adding to our knowledge about the estate. Presumably, like many other archival-historical sources, they were brought away from Lithuania in 1945 when lots of Polish scholars, historians, representatives of the public and cultural workers emigrated to Poland. The Lithuanian manor culture was alive for several centuries. Its heritage is the pieces of art, written and historical monuments, libraries and archives, accumulated in the palace of the Grand Duke of Lithuania, by noblemen and church hierarchs. Nowadays the rich and valuable culture, once nurtured by the aristocracy is evidenced only by its fragments, i. e. the surviving architecture ensembles of manors, pieces of art and their collections, isolated or very specific documents, stored in archives and libraries, etc.. Therefore when studying the history of famous families, the manor architecture, parks, art collections and the cultural life of the past it is difficult to avoid certain patchiness of facts, there is a lack of more comprehensive sources and summarizing studies. The manor of Kairėnai, which was quite significant in the social and cultural life of Vilnius in the first half of the 19th century, is mentioned in the Lithuanian manor historiography. At the time the manor was ruled by counts Darata and Juozapas Lopacinskis. The said family belonged to the layer of less known nobles of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania however a lot of its representatives were engaged in state, cultural and social activities and were science, art and education sponsors. Those were the Samogitian bishop Ignas Domininkas Lopacinskis, voivode Mikalojus Tadas Bernardas Lopacinskis, developer of industry and technical sciences Jonas Nikodemas Lopacinskis, archivist, regional researcher and historian Euzebįjušas Lopacinskis. The later fate of Kairėnai was not so prosperous. The economic power of the manor failed to satisfy the high-spending demands and luxurious swing of the countess’s cultural activities. The cultural life of the Kairėnai manor deteriorated, especially after death of countess Darata in 1857.

Vienas svarbiausių ir ilgiausiai brandintų (paantraštė byloja, kad tai „Trečiasis variantas“) lietuvių egzodo poeto Alfonso Nykos-Niliūno eilėraščių, kuriame lyrinio subjekto egzistencinių siekių išsipildymo, laisvės ir visaverčio gyvenimo paieškos atveda į meno vaizdinių sritį, yra „Išsivadavimo naktis“ iš rinkinio „Vyno stebuklas“. Jį verta nagrinėti išsamiai ir kaip intertekstinės struktūros pavyzdį, nes eilėraščio kulminacijoje staigus prasmės nušvitimas - aliuzija į paveikslą. Atveriant ir išskleidžiant semantikos lygmens komponentus ryškėja pagrindinių tekste atpažįstamų izotopijų sąsajos su meno, kultūros kontekstui atstovaujančiomis figūromis. The analysis of the poem „The Night of Liberation“ by Lithuanian poet Alfonsas Nyka-Niliūnas is concentrated on the role of semantic isotopics of visuality, consisting of figures of a reflecting mirror, a crystal, and a valley. The subject of the poem seeks for the realization of the idea of freedom, which also includes liberation of human senses and extension of visual field. This poem is a vivid example of an intertextual structure: a reference to the work of painting (i.e. Rokeby Venus by Diego Velázquez) is the culmination of the text and it is interpreted as an erotic and aesthetic object of value. The most important segment of the text is the final lines where ephemeral poetic vision of a woman is identified with "a hot night" and "Venus of Velázquez". The subject changes his place of localization, experiences euphoria and the loss of joy at the same time. The significance of visual perception is also obvious: the references of light and darkness in the poem are recognized as the pictorial landscapes moving in the subject's imagination. The correlation of semantic figures in the text reminds of the composition of painting.

The monograph investigates processes of interaction of Oriental, Western and Lithuanian cultures, discusses the penetration of forms of culture of the Far East into the traditions of culture of the West and Lithuania, and seeks to trace the most characteristic manifestations of orientalism in them. A comparative attitude to the problems under study determined the structure of the monograph and its three main lines of study: Oriental, Western and Lithuanian ones. The texts are united by comparative methodology, motifs of interaction of traditions of Oriental and Western culture, as well as distinguishing the sphere of problems of culturology, philosophy and art criticism. Such strategy did not only determine the method of selecting the material but also helped reveal the originality of traditions of culture, thinking and art of the Far East, the peculiarities of the spread of Western self-awareness and show how the perception of the Lithuanian cultural identity revealed through reflection of oriental phenomena and themes. The first part devotes main attention to the tradition of philosophy and aesthetics of the Far East (Yijing, Confucianism, Taoism, Tchan, Shintoism, Zen). In the second part main attention is shifted to the tradition of “non-classic’ philosophy and aesthetics (Schopenhauer, Kierkegaard, Nietzsche, Bergson, Jung, Heidegger, Ortega y Gasset, Malraux) and finally the creation of the personalities of Lithuanian culture related to the spread of orientalism is discussed (Čiurlionis, Šalkauskis, Baltrūšaitis-son, Truikys, Kavolis, Mačiūnas, Švėgžda, Mikšys, Šliogeris, Orantas, Normantas, Ivanauskaitė, Beinorius).

Perėjus iš planinio ūkio į rinkos ekonomiką, Lietuvos meno organizacijos, netekusios ideologinės cenzūros, o su ja ir valstybės kontrolės bei pilno išlaikymo, paliktos pačioms spręsti valdymo bei finansavimo problemas. Praradusios pilną valstybės paramą, jos priverstos ieškoti įvairių būdų, kaip užsidirbti pačioms ir pritraukti lėšas iš kitų šaltinių, iš naujo įvertinti savo organizacijos misiją. Provincijoje meno organizacijoms sunkiau pritraukti papildomų lėšų iš rinkos, nepakanka darbuotojų, sugebančių tobulinti organizacijų veikią ir gebančių sudominti reikiamą klausytojų arba žiūrovų kiekį, nes provincijoje meno paslaugų rinka itin maža. Kyla būtinybė atlikti meno organizacijų, veikiančių didmiesčiuose ir provincijos miesteliuose kiekį, konceptualių veiklos principų analizę. Straipsnyje pateikiami meno organizacijų veiklos diagnostinio tyrimo, atlikto naudojant kiekybinius metodus, rezultatai. Vadybos diagnostika realizuojama konkrečių organizacijų - valstybinių meno organizacijų - lygmenyje. Mokslinės informacijos šaltinis - meno organizacijų rinkos veikėjų nuostatos, nuomonės apie meno organizacijų veiklą. As the centrally-planned system has transformed into the market-driven economy, art organisations became free from ideological censorship in Lithuania, but have lost sufficient state subsidies altogether. This forces the non-profit sector to act independently while looking for solutions of their management and financing problems. Given the insufficient state financing, art organisations must search for different means to earn money themselves or receive support from other sources, and to re-evaluate their organisational mission. The situation is particular problematic in provincial towns and rural areas as art organizations there experience greater difficulties to draw additional funding from the market. They lack component specialists to improve the management and change the operation principles. On the other hand, the market itself is rather small to attract sufficient number of customers. This is why it is vital to analyse the conceptual operation principles of art organisations in large cities and provincial areas. The article presents the results of the diagnostic research of art organizations' activity, which was carried out by employing quantitative methods. Performance diagnostics has been carried out by analysing public art organizations. Art organisations' mission, activity, principles and funding expectations have been analysed. The source of the scientific information is notions and opinions concerning management of art organisations, provided by top managers of the country's art organisations. Opinions and notions have been analysed at other levels as well, including artists and performers, customers of art organisations, art experts and cultural politicians. The methodical base of the analysis has been formed by means of an anonymous questionnaire.

Laikotarpiu tarp sukilimų (1831-1863 m.) Lietuvos ir Lenkijos moksliniame pasaulyje išryškėjo pirmieji bandymai įvertinti krašto meninį paveldą bei pateikti susistemintą dailės ir architektūros raidos šalyje apžvalgą. Tiek Vilniaus periodiniuose leidiniuose „Wizerunki i roztrząsania naukowe“, „Athenaeum“, tiek Varšuvos „Biblioteka Warszawska“ ar „Pamiętnik sztuk pięknych“ puslapiuose pasirodė straipsnių, kuriuose svarstyta ir galimybė rašyti krašto dailės istoriją. Tiesa, to meto autoriai rašė apie „Lenkijos meno istoriją“, tačiau XIX a. istorijos klausimais rašantiems tyrinėtojams sąvokos „lenkų menas“ ar „Lenkijos dailė“ reiškė visos buvusios Abiejų Tautų Respublikos dailės paveldą, todėl Lietuvos teritorijoje esantys dailės ir architektūros kūriniai buvo vertinami visos buvusios valstybės meninio palikimo kontekste. Poreikį rašyti savo krašto meno istoriją lėmė patriotinis siekis rinkti ir išsaugoti nepriklausomybę praradusios valstybės istoriją liudijančius paminklus bei Vakarų Europoje vykstančios permainos istoriografijoje, naujos meno filosofijos idėjos. Atkreipti dėmesį į krašto meninį palikimą skatino ir Vilniaus universiteto dėstytojų įtaka. Vis dėlto bandymus parašyti krašto dailės istoriją ribojo XIX a. būdingos nacionalistinės nuostatos, vertusios kviestinių, iš kitų šalių atvykusių meistrų darbus vertinti kaip svetimybes ir pernelyg didelis noras surasti krašto meniniame pavelde tokius pat dėsningumus, kokius pateikdavo kiti Vakarų Europos mokslininkai analizuodami visuotinės meno istorijos raidą. The first attempts to evaluate the country’s artistic heritage and present a systematised overview of the country’s artistic and architectural evolution were made in the Lithuanian and Polish scholarly world in the period between uprisings (1831–1863). Both Vilnius periodicals “Wizerunki i roztrząsania naukowe” and “Athenaeum” and Warsaw publications “Biblioteka Warszawska” and “Pamiętnik sztuk pięknych” published articles that considered the possibility to write the country’s art history. Contemporary authors actually wrote “The Polish Art History”; however, the researchers of the 19th c. history considered the concepts “Polish art” or “Poland’s fine arts” to encompass the artistic heritage of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth; therefore, the works of art and architecture present in the territory of Lithuania were viewed in the context of artistic heritage of the commonwealth. The patriotic aspiration to collect and preserve historical monuments, testifying the history of the State which had lost its independence, and the changes which had been going on in historiography in Western Europe, as well as new ideas in the philosophy of art determined the need to reflect the country’s own history of art. Teachers at Vilnius University also urged to pay attention to own artistic heritage. Nevertheless, the attempts to write the country’s history of art were restricted by the nationalist standpoint typical of the 19th c., which forced to evaluate the works of artists from other countries as something alien, and a too intense wish to find the same patterns in the country’s artistic heritage as presented by other Western European researchers when analysing the development of the universal history of art.

Straipsnyje aptariama Šv. Kazimiero ikonografinė tradicija. Daugiausia dėmesio skiriama iš hagiografinės Šv. Kazimiero tradicijos kilusioms temoms, kurios buvo nuolat kartojamos, interpretuojamos ir transformuojamos. Šv. Kazimiero hagiografiniai leidiniai pradedami spausdinti XVII a. pradžioje. Tuo metu neatsiejamai nuo hagiografinės formuojasi ikonografinė Šv. Kazimiero tradicija. XVIII-XIX a. Šv. Kazimiero ikonografijoje, kartais nutoldamos, kartais tiksliai hagiografinę tradiciją kartodamos, randasi scenos, kurios yra skirstytinos į tematikas, tokias kaip mariologinė, karinė, apoteozinė ir kt. Priede pateikiamoje lentelėje išvardytos penkiuose gausiai iliustruotuose XVII a. leidiniuose randamos Šv. Kazimiero gyvenimo ir stebuklų scenos, kurios, kaip manoma, darė įtaką besiformuojančiai Šv. Kazimiero ikonografijai. Tačiau straipsnyje nekalbama apie seniausius Šv. Kazimiero atvaizdus, sukurtus XVI a., kai palaimintojo kultas dar negalėjo "oficialiai" skleistis Bažnyčioje (ikonografinė tradicija formavosi XVII a.). Antroje straipsnio dalyje apžvelgiamos plačiausiai paplitusios Šv. Kazimiero ikonografijoje temos, sulaukusios daugybės kartočių. Nors straipsnyje nekalbama apie Šv. Kazimiero kultą ir ikonografiją vienuolijose, bet aptariamas Šv. Kazimiero brolijos klausimas, nes XVII a. Antverpene įsikūrusi vienintelė bažnytinė Šv. Kazimiero brolija išleido porą hagiografinių leidinių su Šventojo ikonografiją papildančiomis iliustracijomis. The article discusses the iconographic tradition of St. Casimir. Most of the attention is devoted to topics derived from the hagiographic traditions of St. Casimir, which were frequently repeated, interpreted, and transformed. Hagiographic publications about St. Casimir began to be published at the beginning of the 17th c. At that time the iconographic tradition of St. Casimir was being formed inseparably from the hagiographic tradition. In the 18-19th centuries in the historiography of St. Casimir one can find scenes sometimes departing from, sometimes accurately repeating the hagiographic tradition which are divided into themes such as the study of Mary, war, apotheosis, etc. The table in the appendix lists the scenes in five copiously illustrated 17th c. publications from the life and miracles of St. Casimir which, it is thought, influenced the still being formed iconography of St. Casimir.

The article presents the possibility to develop creativity in teacher for I-IV classes training by the interaction of arts. The research was made in the lectures for students in Art and Primary Education programs, Faculty of Education, Šiauliai University. A formative experiment was carried out. The purpose of the experiment was to verify the hypothesis raised: the interaction of arts is one of effective ways developing creativity in the lectures of art. The program of the lectures of art was supplemented with a new content, which consisted of creative tasks of the interaction of arts Having taken various courses of art (art, music, literature, photography, etc.) as electives. Both the control and the experimental groups worked according to different plans. The experimental program and the methodology worked out by us was applied only for the experimental group. Tetst of the formative experiment were made at the beginning and end of the experiment. The observation of a creative process itself and discussions with the students were carried out. The results were evaluated according to the stages worked out by us selecting a number of criteria for and evaluation for of creativity. The theoretical and empirical model of creativity worked out by us and used in the lessons of art and crafts in primary forms was employed in the research. The results of the research corroborated the possibility of the idea of raising the level of creativity.

Tarpsukiliminiu laikotarpiu (1831-1863) prasidėję architektūros paminklų tyrinėjimai gerai atspindi to meto Lietuvos ir Lenkijos kultūros klausimais besidominčių autorių menines pažiūras, jų kitimą. Straipsnyje analizuojami aptariamo laikotarpio Lietuvos publicistų ir kritikų straipsniai ir monografijos, tyrinėjantys senąją Vilniaus architektūrą. K. Podčašinskio, M. Balinskio, J. I. Kraševskio, M. Homolickio, F. M. Sobieszczaskio, L. N. Kirkoro tekstai atskleidžia, kaip vienas po kito įvairūs Vilniaus pastatai buvo pripažinti reikšmingais krašto architektūros paminklais. Romantizmo įtakoje pirmiausia buvo nusigręžta nuo klasicizmo kaip pagrindinio atskaitos taško vertinant meną ir atkreiptas dėmesys į senuosius gotikinius bei Renesanso epochos Vilniaus statinius. Gana prieštaringai tuo metu vertinta baroko architektūra. The examinations of architectural monuments, which commenced during the inter-rebellion period (1831-1863) reflect the artistic views of the authors, who took interest in the issues of Lithuanian and Polish culture of the period and the changes of the said views. The article analyzes the articles and monographs by Lithuanian publicists and critics of the period under analysis, examining the old Vilnius architecture. The texts by K. Podčašinski, M. Balinski, J. I. Kraševski, M. Homolicki, F. M. Sobieszczaski and L. N. Kirkor reveal how different Vilnius buildings were gradually recognized significant architectural monuments. Under the influence of Romanticism first of all the classicism was refused as the main starting point in appreciation of art and the attention was drawn to the ancient Gothic and Renaissance Vilnius buildings. The Baroque architecture was viewed rather controversially. Initially most authors considered it tasteless, lacking harmony and overloaded with unnecessary decorations, however, later certain Vilnius Baroque buildings – St. Peter and Paul’s Cathedral and St. Casimirus Chapel were positively appreciated. In the middle of the 19th century, apart from the Gothic and Classicist buildings, most Vilnius Baroque churches were already recognized as containing exceptional characteristics, impellent shapes and were held a significant part of the architectural landscape of Vilnius. Thus, most Vilnius buildings, which are still valued today, were recognized as cultural values during the inter-rebellion period.

Ethics and aesthetics form indivisible system, making favorable conditions for all-round personality education. An attempt to analyze role of aesthetic in the management is made in the article. This problem is thinly investigated in our country till now. Striving to fill the gap we use the concept of culture as a complex of human creative work and activity. Personal aesthetic culture is important part of the system. Aesthetic culture is changing due to intrinsic and external influences, the analyses of which is presented in the article. Future administrators' and managers' aesthetic education and self - education is analyzed, characteristic features of those processes taking place in management specialists' training in the faculty of social sciences in Klaipeda university are presented in the article. Conclusions and considerable bibliography is presented at the end of the article.

Angelo Sargo paveikslas iš Viduklės bažnyčios įdomus todėl, kad tai - ryškus baroko epochos meno kūrinys. Tai vienas iš vietinės tapybos pavyzdžių, reprezentuojančių baroko meno idėjų sklaidą Europos periferijoje. Straipsnyje analizuojamas anksčiau išsamiai netyrinėtas sakralinės dailės kūrinys. Šiuo metu paveikslas priklauso Kauno arkivyskupijos Bažnytinio meno muziejui. Angelo Sargo paveikslas plačiajai visuomenei pristatytas ir pirmą kartą parodytas 1931 metų birželio 14 d., kai Teisingumo ministerijos rūmuose Kaune buvo surengta pirmoji Lietuvos bažnytinio meno paroda. Apibendrintai galima teigti, jog senas ir gilus tikėjimas Angelu Sargu skatino kurti jo atvaizdus. Didžiojo sielos globėjo vaizdavimas plačiausią mastą įgavo baroko epochoje, kai dėl plintančių kontrreformacinių idėjų stiprėjo Angelo Sargo kultas. Aptariamasis kūrinys sukurtas kaip tik tuo metu. Viduklės Angelo Sargo paveiksle per meninę, estetinę, idėjinę raišką įvairiapusiškai atsiskleidžia baroko epochos menas. Taip pat dėl įvairiapusiškai atskleistos baroko žmogaus mąstysenos ir savitos daugiasluoksnės ikonografinės programos bei meninės raiškos šis paveikslas turi ypatingą vietą tarp kitų Lietuvos XVIII a. altorių paveikslų. The painting of the Guardian Angel in the church of Viduklė is interesting in the way that it is a prominent creation of art of the Baroque era and one of the examples of the local painting, representing the dissemination of the ideas of the Baroque art in the European periphery. The article analyzes the said work of sacral art, which has not been extensively studied previously. At present the painting belongs to the Museum of Church Art of Kaunas Archbishopric. The painting of the Guardian Angel was presented to the general public on 14 June, 1931 when the first exhibition of Lithuanian church art was arranged in the house of the Ministry of Justice in Kaunas. To summarize it can be stated that the old and deep faith in the Guardian Angel encouraged creating his images. The imaging of the great soul savior acquired its broadest scope in the Baroque era, when, due to the spreading contra-reformation ideas the cult of the Guardian Angel was growing. The painting in question was created during the period in question. The painting of the Guardian Angel of Viduklė, through the artistic, aesthetic and ideological expression, comprehensively reveals the art of the Baroque period. In addition, due to the comprehensively revealed thinking of the Baroque person and a peculiar iconographical programme and artistic expression the painting has a special place among other Lithuanian altar paintings of the 18th century.

Straipsnyje, remiantis rašytiniais šaltiniais ir vienuolynuose išlikusių dirbinių analogijomis, iškeliamos Vilniaus basųjų karmeličių meninės raiškos prielaidos. Dirbtinės gėlės, paperoles technika padirbinti relikvijoriai, karpiniai "Sekminių loterijai" ir kiti Krokuvos basųjų karmeličių vienuolyne išlikę darbeliai atstovauja šimtmečiams puoselėtiems ir Vilniaus konvente kadaise gyvavusiems vienuolijos papročiams. Vienuolių meninės raiškos fenomenai aptariami profesionalaus meno funkcionavimo vienuolyne kontekste. Drawing on written sources and analogous artworks remaining at other convents of the order, the article analyses the background of artistic expression of Vilnius Dis-calced Carmelite nuns. Artificial flowers, paper reliquaries executed in the paperoles technique, paper cuts for the Whitsunday lottery and other articles surviving at the Convent of Discalced Carmelites in Cracow (Wesiola) represent the customs and artistic traditions of the order that have been cherished for hundreds of years and have been passed from generation to generation. These are an important part of our cultural heritage. In methodological terms, it is of vital importance to acknowledge the uniformity of customs and traditions within the order and this may be supported by "customs books" and other sources. Without such an acknowledgment, consideration of the destroyed heritage of an extinct convent would be impossible. The phenomena of nuns’ artistic expression are discussed from the perspective that professional art has existed at the convent. Inscriptions on engravings - the socalled obscure pictures - testify to the fact of their donation and interchange as well as to other factual and emotional circumstances of their acquisition and presence at the convent. Simultaneously, frequent cases of enhancement, colouring and embellishment of these engravings allows tracing the beginnings of the nuns’ artistic expression. It is difficult to draw the line between the usage of an artwork already created and tire creation of a new artistic form within the context of the convent. It seems likely that the artistic activity of Discalced Carmelite nuns (which is most probably characteristic of other women’s monasteries as well) was related to the need to decorate and adorn rather than to the need to create: flowers were made to adorn altars, flower ornaments were draw with quills to embellish the margins of manuscripts, and paper strips have been used to create flower-like openwork to frame the relics of saints.

1990 m., Lietuvai atgavus Nepriklausomybę, atsirado profesionalių dailininkų, kurie sugebėjo tikėjimo tiesas perteikti šiuolaikine meno forma ir atskleisti vaizduojamo slėpinio gilumą bei reikšmingumą. Šiame straipsnyje nagrinėjami Kryžiaus kelio stočių paveikslai, esantys Kauno bažnyčiose. Tai 1997 m. sukurti Vaidoto Kvašio darbai Kryžiaus kelio tema, esantys Šv. Gertrūdos bažnyčioje. Taip pat Virginijaus Kašinsko nutapyti Stočių paveikslai (1999-2000), kurie yra Šv. Mykolo Arkangelo (Įgulos) bažnyčioje ir Stasio Ušinsko Švč. Jėzaus Širdies bažnyčiai sukurtos Kryžiaus kelio stočių drobės (1944-1946). Straipsnyje apžvelgta Kryžiaus kelio stočių istorinė raida, nekintama Kryžiaus kelio teologinė prasmė ir šaltiniai. Atlikus analizę paaiškėjo, kad visi autoriai nesilaiko tradicinių ikonografinių traktuočių, bet kuria savo interpretacijas. Kurdami Jėzaus Kristaus paveikslą, dailininkai remiasi skirtingomis vaizdavimo tradicijomis. S. Ušinskas naudoja naujus prasminius simbolius ir ženklus; jo pasirinktas Kristaus paveikslas - tai triumfuojantis Viešpats. V. Kvašys visą dėmesį sutelkia į vidinius ženklus, teologines idėjas. V. Kašinsko sukurtiems paveikslams būdingi keli vienas kitą papildantys ir naujų prasmių suteikiantys simbolių klodai. Dailininkas drąsiai susieja tiek Senojo, tiek Naujojo Testamentų simbolius bei liaudies pamaldumo įžvalgas, sukuria naujas ikonografines interpretacijas. After Lithuania regained its independence in 1990, there emerged professional artists, who managed to convey the truths of faith through modern art forms and reveal the depth and significance of the imaged mysteries. The article examines the paintings of stops along the Road to Golgotha, existing in churches of Kaunas. Those are the works by Vaidotas Kvašys, painted in 1997, existing in the Church of St. Gertrude as well as the paintings by Virginijus Kašinskas (1999-2000) in the Church of St. Michael and the canvases, painted by Stasys Ušinskas for the Church of the Sacred Heart (1944-1946). The article provides an overview of the historical development of the stops along the Road to Golgotha, the permanent theological meaning of the Road to Golgotha and the sources. Upon performing an analysis it appeared that all the authors do not follow the traditional iconographical treatment, but create their own interpretations. When creating painting of Jesus Christ the artists follow different imaging traditions. S. Ušinskas uses new meaningful symbols and signs; his painting of Jesus is the triumphant Lord. V. Kvašys dedicates all the attention to the internal signs and theological ideas. The paintings, created by V. Kašinskas characterize with several symbols, supplementing each other and rendering new meanings. The artist courageously related the symbols of both the Old and New Testaments and the insights of folk godliness and creates new iconographic interpretations.

Straipsnyje nagrinėjami Lietuvos muziejuose išlikę 59 meno istoriko, grafiko, muziejininko Pauliaus Galaunės ir grafiko, žemaičių liaudies meno tyrinėtojo, Džiuginėnų dvaro savininko Juzefo Perkovskio laiškai, rašyti 1928-1939 metais. Šis epistolinis palikimas papildo abiejų tyrinėtojų biografijas, mokslinės veiklos aprašymą, atskleidžia dviejų lietuvių liaudies meno tyrinėtojų plačius bendrus interesus susijusius su tautodailės tyrimais, atspindi jų meninį, kultūrinį akiratį. Jie leidžia išsamiau interpretuoti svarbiausią J. Perkovskio mokslinę studiją "Žemaičių liaudies meno ornamentika: forma ir simbolika", atskleidžia svarbias šios knygos rašymo aplinkybes. Korespondencija liudija apie didmiesčiuose gyvenusios lietuviakalbės inteligentijos ir provincijoje gyvenusių dvarininkų sąlyčio taškus, santykį su modernėjančia kultūra, apie bendrus to laiko intelektualų interesus. Tautiniam atgimimui pritariantys dvarininkai, tokie kaip J. Perkovskis, stengėsi puoselėti lietuvybę, ieškojo kontaktų su nepriklausomos Lietuvos Respublikos (1918-1940) laikinosios sostinės Kauno inteligentija. Bendri visuomeniniai, kultūriniai interesai, tarpusavio bendravimas artino juos. Iš laiškų ryškėja, kad J. Perkovskis buvo pažįstamas ir susirašinėjo su P. Galaune, Vincu Krėve-Mickevičiumi, Adomu Galdiku. Santykiai su šiais asmenimis buvo mokslinio pobūdžio ir vienaip ar kitaip susiję su J. Perkovskio liaudies meno studijomis ar kūryba (pagrindiniai J. Perkovskio veiklos orientyrai buvo vietos tradicijų puoselėjimas, liaudies meno tyrinėjimas ir fiksavimas, kultūrinio akiračio plėtimas). The article examines 59 letters between art historian, graphicist, museologist Paulius Galaunė and graphicist, researcher of Samogitian folk art, owner of Džiuginėnai manor Juzef Perkovsky, written in 1928-1939, and preserved in Lithuanian museums. The said epistolary heritage supplements the biographies and description of scientific activities of both researchers of Lithuanian folk art, reveals their common interests, pertaining to folk art analysis and reflects their artistic and cultural worldview. The letters provide the possibility to interpret J. Perkovsky’s most important scientific study “Žemaičių Liaudies Meno Ornamentika: Forma ir Simbolika” more comprehensively and reveal the important circumstances of writing of the book. The correspondence evidences the relations between the Lithuanian speaking intelligentsia, living in large cities and the rural gentry, their relations with the modern culture and the common interests of the intellectuals of the period. The gentry, supporting the national resurrection, among which J. Perkovsky was, attempted to nurture Lithuanian aspects, searched for contacts with the intelligentsia of Kaunas, the temporary capital of the independent Republic of Lithuania in 1918-1940. Both persons shared the same common social and cultural interests. The letters show that J. Perkovsky was corresponding not only with P. Galaunė, but also with Vincas Krėvė-Mickevičius and Adomas Galdikas. The relations with the said persons were of a scientific character and, to a greater or smaller extent, related to J. Perkovsky’s studies of folk art or his creative (the main guidelines of activities of J. Perkovsky were the nurturing of local traditions, examination and registration of folk art and expansion of the cultural worldview).
