171. Correlation Effects on Electronic Transport through Dots and Wires.

Abstract

We investigate how two-particle interactions affect the electronic transport through meso- and nanoscopic systems of two different types: quantum dots with local Coulomb correlations and quasi one-dimensional quantum wires of interacting electrons. A recently developed functional renormalization group scheme is used that allows to investigate systems of complex geometry. Considering simple setups we show that the method includes the essential aspects of Luttinger liquid physics (one-dimensional wires) as well as of the physics of local correlations, with the Kondo effect being an important example. For more complex systems of coupled dots and Y-junctions of interacting wires we find surprising new correlation effects. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

191. DMRG Studies of Impurities in Luttinger Liquids

Abstract

Using the Density Matrix Renormalization Group (DMRG) and various analytical techniques (functional renormalization) we consider the effects of local impurities in Luttinger liquids. We find that the universal physics predicted by bosonization sets in only at extremely long, experimentally arguably irrelevant length scales or small energy scales respectively. The explicit construction of the RG flow allows to trace this behaviour to an extremely weak renormalization in real space of the impurities associated to the generation of a very long-ranged oscillating scattering potential.

193. Nonequilibrium functional renormalization group for interacting quantum systems.

Abstract

We propose a nonequilibrium version of functional renormalization within the Keldysh formalism by introducing a complex-valued flow parameter in the Fermi or Bose functions of each reservoir. Our cutoff scheme provides a unified approach to equilibrium and nonequilibrium situations. We apply it to nonequilibrium transport through an interacting quantum wire coupled to two reservoirs and show that the nonequilibrium occupation induces new power law exponents for the conductance.
