The aim of this study is to determine the socio-economic situation and production costs of sheep breeding enterprises and propose some suggestions to their faced problems. The materials of the study are the data of questionnaire which is carried out to stratified randomly selected 62 sheep producers in 2013 year, located in Korkut District of Muş Province. The enterprises divided into 3 groups; as small scale (≤50 sheep; 8 enterprises), medium scale (51-100 sheep; 25 enterprises) and large scale (101-250 sheep; 29 enterprises) according to number of sheep. As a result, the producers has enough experiences about sheep breeding (50% have got over 20 year experiences), however, their formal and professional education level are low (79.1% graduated only primary school and only 4.9% has got job training). In small scale enterprises, the sales revenue, production costs and profitability were calculated as 292 TL/head, 305.6 TL/head and -14.5 TL/head respectively. Same values were 344.4 TL/head, 286.3 TL/head and 58 TL/head in medium scale and 326.5 TL/head, 232.9 TL/head and 93.8 TL/head in large scale. Consequently, the scale of enterprises need to enlarge for decreasing the unit costs and increasing the sales revenue and profitability. It was determined that small scale (<50 head) enterprises were in negative profit.
