【Objective】Through the investigation of large-scale for fungi resources in Wenshan city, it is expected to explore the important economic value fungi in this area and understand the local new and unique resources. 【Method】Using the randomsample collection of the area 10 townships large fungi resources based on a two-year survey, the identification of specimens was mainly combined with morphology and molecular markers, and through the biodiversity of the traditional statistical methods in the area of species richness and diversity index, evenness index were analyzed.【Result】There were 116 species of macrofungi, which could be assigned to 71 genera, 30 families, 11 orders, 4 classes, 2 phyla. Ten of the macrofungi were endemic to China. According to the analysis of the utilization value of large fungi resources, there were 19 species of edible fungi among the macrofungi found in this survey, 20 species of medicinal fungi, 3 species of toadstool fungi and 55 species of wood-rot fungi in Wenshan city, some of them had good development prospects. The results of species accumulation curve analysis showed that the sampling was sufficient in this study. The results of diversity analysis showed that the variation trend of richness index (R) was P10>P9>P8>P1>P7>P4>P5>P2>P6>P2>P3. The variation trend of dominance index (D) was P9>P1>P7>P8>P3>P10>P2>P3>P4>P5. The species diversity index (H′) trend was P9>P7>P1>P8>P10>P6>P3>P4>P2>P5. The variation trend of uniformity index (E) was P9>P1>P8>P7>P6>P3>P2>P10>P4>P5. 【Conclusion】The macrofungi in Wenshan city had been systematically investigated, and the information of macrofungal resources in this area had been basically found out. The results of diversity analysis showed that the diversity of macrofungal species in this area was relatively high. This study provides a scientific basis for the protection, development, utilization and management of macrofungal resources in this area, and also greatly enriches the data and information of known macrofungal species in Yunnan province. Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region in China embraces a unique geographical and ecological environment, and the macrofungi represent a rich resource. However, few studies on the genus Pluteus have been reported from Xinjiang. In 2021, the macrofungal resources in Xinjiang were surveyed, and 10 specimens belonging to the genus Pluteus were collected. Based on the morphological study and molecular analysis, three species were recognized, P. aletaiensis, P. brunneidiscus, and P. hongoi. Pluteus aletaiensis is proposed as a new species. It is characterized by its bright yellow lamellae and stipe, brittle texture, subfusiform to vesicular pleurocystidia, with short pedicels to broadly lageniform to obtuse at apices, a hymeniderm pileipellis, containing dark brown intracellular pigment, and it grows on the ground. Pluteus brunneidiscus, a new record to China, is characterized by uneven, smooth, grayish brown to brown pileus, with an entire margin, and pointed or flatter apices intermediate cystidia, without apical hooks. Pluteus hongoi, a new record to Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region, China, is characterized by the apical hook's structure (commonly bifid) of pleurocystidia. The nuclear internal transcribed spacer (nrITS) and translation elongation factor 1-alpha (TEF1-a) region were used for the molecular analysis. Phylogenetic trees were constructed using both the maximum likelihood analysis (ML) and Bayesian inference (BI). Detailed descriptions of the three species are presented herein. Wild edible mushrooms, serving as a bountiful reservoir of diverse nutrients, minerals, and pharmacological agents, are recognized for the formation of intricate mineral microstructures known as mycoliths within and around their hyphal networks. Therefore, this study aimed to analyze biochemical traits and assess mycoliths in prized wild mushrooms from the southern Kashmir Himalaya. Protein and carbohydrate levels were assessed using colorimetric methods, while minerals were quantified via atomic absorption spectroscopy, and mycoliths were characterized through X-ray diffraction analysis. On a dry weight basis, the protein content varied from 14.67 mg/g dw in Lycoperdon perlatum to 35.25 mg/g dw in Ramaria formosa. Geopora sumneriana exhibited the highest fiber content of 8.33 % on a dry weight basis. Potassium content ranged from 0.98 mg/g dw in Calvatia gigantea to 2.12 mg/g dw in Pleurotus citrinopileatus. In contrast, sodium content across all selected mushrooms was relatively low, ranging from 0.09 mg/g dw in Ramaria formosa to 0.96 mg/g dw in Coprinus comatus. All the tested mushroom species were found to contain mycoliths, with silicon dioxide (SiO 2) identified as the predominant component of these structures. The observations of this study warrant consideration of these wild macrofungi as prospective candidates for health-promoting foods. The fungal biodiversity associated with a stable plant community appears to vary from year to year. To analyse the annual behaviour in the formation of fruiting bodies, a statistical study of the data obtained for 4 years (2009–2012) in an apparently undisturbed Mediterranean ecosystem dominated by the holm oak (Quercus ilex L. subsp. ballota (Desf.) Samp.), located in the Midwest of the Iberian Peninsula, was carried out. These data were related to the main meteorological variables. The 150 species collected showed a significant annual, monthly, and weekly difference in their fruiting during the collection period. All this implies a variation in the annual fungal fruiting which can modify the moment of when maximum peaks of fruiting appear, their duration, and the number of species that compose them. In addition, the results make it possible to establish an annual behaviour pattern, with sporocarp formation throughout the year and four fruiting groups (two of them in the dry season). They also allow for inferring a possible response to climate change, with a delay in the fruiting of the autumn-winter group and earlier fruit bearing in the winter-spring group.

Despite the ecological importance of fungi, we still know little about their diversity in Canada. One of the largest hurdles to implementing fungal conservation initiatives is the lack of fungal distribution data. As anthropogenic impacts accelerate the speed of environmental change, it is imperative that we fill this major information gap, critical for fungal protection. To gain insight on the conservation status of Canadian macrofungi, we took advantage of the large and growing body of fungal biodiversity data from government research (Wild Species 2020), citizen science, trained independent mycologists, university, and museum biodiversity research. The majority of macrofungi are data deficient; we do not know their geographic distribution or habitat requirements, occurrence, or abundance in Canada. For mushrooms that fruit only a few days of the year and are often difficult to positively identify, there is a lot of work to overcome the uncertainty of distinguishing under-sampling from rarity. Our work stresses the importance of building a strong network of professional and amateur mycologists to develop resources, disseminate information to make educated decisions, and advance conservation actions. We found that several fungi can be prioritized; we present a short list for consideration for formal conservation assessment.

Macrofungi are valuable resources as novel drug candidates, new biomaterials, and edible materials. Recently, genetic approaches pertaining to macrofungi have been continuously growing for their identification, molecular breeding, and genetic engineering. However, purification and amplification of fungal DNA is challenging because of the rigid cell wall and presence of PCR inhibitory metabolites. Here, we established a direct PCR method to provide a rapid and efficient method for PCR-grade macrofungal DNA preparation applicable to both conventional PCR and real-time PCR. We first optimized the procedure of lysis and PCR using the mycelia of Lentinula edodes, one of the most widely consumed macrofungal species. Lysates prepared by neutralizing with (NH4)2SO4 after heating the mycelia in a mixture of TE buffer and KOH at 65℃ for 10 min showed successful amplification in both conventional and real-time PCR. Moreover, the addition of bovine serum albumin to the PCR mixture enhanced the amplification in conventional PCR. Using this method, we successfully amplified not only internal transcribed spacer fragments but also low-copy genes ranging in length from 500 to 3,000 bp. Next, we applied this method to 62 different species (54 genera) of macrofungi, including edible mushrooms, such as Pleurotus ostreatus, and medicinal mushrooms such as Cordyceps militaris. It was found that our method is widely applicable to both ascomycetes and basidiomycetes. We expect that our method will contribute to accelerating PCR-based approaches, such as molecular identification, DNA marker typing, gene cloning, and transformant screening, in macrofungal studies.

To this day, merely 8% of all estimated fungi species are documented and, in certain regions, its biodiversity is practically unknown. Inside the Fungi Kingdom, macrofungi and lichens assume a critical part in the ecosystem functionality and have a historical connection to mankind's social, clinical and nutritious uses. Despite their importance, the diversity of these groups has been widely overlooked in the sub-Antarctic Region of Chile, a crucial area in the study of climate change due to its extraordinary biodiversity and its proximity to Antarctica. Few studies regarding both groups have been conducted in this sub-Antarctic Region and the data are still scarce and inaccessible, as these are only published in specialised journals, unreachable to local communities.This publication presents a records compilation available in previous published scientific and technical reports on macrofungi and lichen diversity. In total, 1263 occurrence records of 618 species (341 records of 251 macrofungi species and 922 records of 367 lichen species) were digitised and integrated into the regional platform Biodiversity Information System for Aysén (SIB-Aysén) and into GBIF. Here, we provide the fullest dataset on one of the most diverse group of living beings in one of the the least-known world regions.

Mushrooms have been considered an important part of human life due to their various benefits and potential. In Indonesia, many indigenous people get used to foraging and using wild mushrooms as part of their daily lives. To date, there was no update following prior local name checklist of wild mushroom and their uses in Indonesia. Thus, this review aims to provide the latest work on that information known so far in the country. A literature review was focusing on available publications containing the local names and the use of wild mushrooms in Indonesia. 107 mushrooms in total are known to have 170 local names with 36 of them having more than 1 indigenous name. Some of them: Coprinus spp., Polyporus spp., Schizophyllum commune, Scleroderma spp., Termitomyces spp., and Trametes spp. are known to have 5 local names for each region and ethnicity that uses them. 50 species of mushrooms in total are used as food and traditional medicine. The information was derived from 8 provinces and 8 tribes, of which West Kalimantan Province and Javanese ethnicity contributed to the highest number of it. The number of local names is expected to increase as more investigations are conducted in the near future.

AbstractMushrooms have a long history of cultivation, dating back to 600 AD. However, most edible mushroom species worldwide are still gathered from the wild, a practice which is unsustainable in contributing to global food security. Cultivation of saprotrophic mushroom species has successfully used agricultural waste as growing substrate. Their mycorrhizal counterparts, however, remain dependent on their woody hosts and seasonality thereby being less accessible to urban communities. The main reason has been the lack of methods which effectively simulate mycorrhizal symbiotic environments. Apart from requiring particular species of bacteria for mycorrhization with their woody host species, mycorrhizal mushrooms also strictly require glucose or fructose as their only source of carbon. Hence, sustainable off-host cultivation of mycorrhizal mushrooms will require better understanding of exact conditions of mycorrhization and fructification. In this review, a brief history of use and general biology of mushrooms, and the cultivation methods employed for non-mycorrhizal and mycorrhizal mushrooms are discussed. Finally, a discussion is provided on the prospects for Sub-Saharan Africa in developing modern sustainable cultivation methods for wild mushrooms towards meeting the key UN Sustainable Development Goals.

Two novel species of Russula (Russulaceae, Russulales), namely Russula indosenecis A.Ghosh, D.Chakr., K.Das & Buyck sp. nov. and R. pseudosenecis A.Ghosh, D.Chakr., K.Das & Buyck sp. nov. belonging to sect. Ingratae subg. Heterophyllidiae are proposed herein based on their morphological features and nrITS-based phylogenetic inferences. Both species belong to the Asian ʻR. punctipes-senecisʼ complex of sect. Ingratae. The acrid R. indosenecis was collected from subalpine forests associated with Abies densa, whereas the mild R. pseudosenecis associates with tropical forests dominated by Shorea robusta. Both species are distinct from the other species of this species complex in nrITS sequence data and from all other known species in subg. Heterophyllidiae in the strong amyloidity of their suprahilar spot.

Edible mushrooms, a class of macroscopic fungi, serve as delicious and nutritious food supplements around the world. Nevertheless, accidental consumption of poisonous mushrooms that results in fatality or severe illness is typical in all countries, especially among the tribal indigenous communities that forage wild mushrooms for food. In the Indian subcontinent, mushroom poisoning cases are underreported and neglected. Different classes of toxins, characterized from the poisonous mushrooms found globally, show variable clinical symptoms post-consumption. Although the Indian subcontinent is a biodiversity hotspot and home to different classes of fungi and mushrooms, many species of poisonous mushrooms and their toxins, have yet to be identified and characterized. No epidemiological studies or retrospective analyses of mushroom poisoning cases have been reported from the poison control centers in the Indian subcontinent. Nevertheless, some limited clinical and epidemiological data is available from India and Nepal, and therefore, we critically analyse the mushroom poisoning scenario in these countries, and discuss the mushroom toxins that are likely responsible for the post-ingestion toxicities. We also correlate the clinical manifestations of mushroom intoxication in India and Nepal with the pharmacological properties of the prevalent mushroom toxins in these countries. Our limited study of mushroom poisoning demonstrates that the adverse pharmacological effects of amatoxin, one of the deadliest mushroom toxins, are responsible for the highest mortality and morbidity in India and Nepal. Further, no specific antidote is available to treat mushroom intoxication in the region, and systemic and supportive care is all that is available for in-patient management of cases of severe poisoning. We also suggest a roadmap for the prevention and specific treatment against mushroom poisoning in the Indian subcontinent. This work describes the development of a novel method for quantitative mapping of Hg and Se in mushroom fruit body tissues with laser ablation coupled to inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry (LA-ICP-MS). Different parameters of the protocol for preparation of the standards used for quantification via external calibration were assessed, e.g., the dissolution temperature of gelatin standards and the addition of chitosan and l-cysteine as additives to the gelatin-based calibration droplets to better match the sample matrix. While chitosan was not suited for this purpose, the presence of l-cysteine considerably improved the figures of merit of the calibration, leading to limits of detection of 0.006 and 0.3 µg g−1 for Hg and Se, respectively, at a pixel size of 20 × 20 µm. Further, an in-house reference material, ideally suited for the validation of the method for application to mushroom samples, was successfully prepared from a paste of Boletus edulis. The newly developed method was used to investigate the distribution of Hg and Se in tissue sections of five porcini mushroom individuals of three different species (Boletus edulis, Boletus aereus, and Boletus pinophilus) and one sample of a parasol mushroom (Macrolepiota procera). For one sample, additional areas were ablated at higher spatial resolution, with a laser spot size down to 5 µm, which allows a detailed investigation of the spatial distribution of Hg and Se in mushrooms. The incomplete information on most reported macrofungi is one of the remaining challenges of taxonomic work in Indonesia. Cookeina tricholoma (Ascomycetes, Pezizales, Sarcoscyphaceae), otherwise known as cup fungi, is no exception. In this study, we report C. tricholoma from West Java, Indonesia. Fresh materials were evaluated using morphological and molecular analyses. The specimen was illustrated with macro- and microscopic features. Molecular analyses were performed using the internal transcribed spacer region. Cookeina voucher BO24423 was identified as C. tricholoma. The morphological characteristics of C. tricholoma BO24423 are cup-shaped, pinkish to reddish, and with prominent hairs. The phylogenetic tree analyses confirmed that our specimens were C. tricholoma with 99-100% bootstrap value. This study is the first contribution to the identification of C. tricholoma based on morphological and molecular evidence for Indonesia. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The Philippines is known for its ecological diversity due to its climatic condition and geographical location. However, despite having a wide range of organisms, the macrofungal species in the country remain poorly documented. Recent mycological research in the tropics states that more species have yet to be discovered in the Philippines. Despite this, a mycological study still focuses on the ethnomycological survey and species listing. In this study, a survey of publications in macrofungi from 1906 to the present revealed that the Philippines have currently 376 validated species names of macrofungi classified under 66 families and 130 genera. Macrofungal species reported in the country belong to class Ascomycota and Basidiomycota with high species diversity under family Agaricaceae, Lycoperdaceae, Marasmiaceae, and Polyporaceae. Most studies were published internationally and were concentrated in Luzon Island, Philippines. Looking into these, we suggest a biodiversity analysis of macrofungi in other regions of the country. A shift into applying molecular systematics and biotechnology would further develop Philippine macrofungal research, given that the historical trend has focused on morphological identification and classification. We hope that this paper will be a call to further fill the gaps in what is known about the macrofungi in the Philippines, given the country's potential for further discoveries. Fungal diversity is one of the most important indicators of overall forest biodiversity and its health. However, scarce information exists on the state of macrofungal communities of mountain forests in Serbia, making it one of the countries with the least-published mycological data in the Mediterranean and Balkan region of Europe. This paper presents the results of the first comprehensive, long-term study of macrofungal communities in some of the most important mountain forest ecosystems in Serbia (Tara, Kopaonik and Vidlič). In the course of three consecutive years, the sampling of five permanent experimental plots resulted in 245 species of macrofungi, classified into three functional groups (terricolous saprothrophs, lignicolous, and mycorrhizal fungi). Special attention was given to protected and indicator species, which point out the great value of studied forest habitats and the importance of their conservation. It was found that precipitation, habitat humidity, and temperature significantly influence the occurrence and distribution, primarily of mycorrhizal and lignicolous group of fungi. Thus, the continuation of long-term monitoring is crucial in order to more precisely determine which groups/species of macrofungi would, and to what extent they would, adapt to a rapidly changing climate. Aim: To uncover the biogeography of non‐native macrofungal diversity worldwide, by analysing patterns and drivers of (1) regional variation in species richness, (2) compositional similarity between regional species assemblages and (3) the spatiotemporal trends of first records. Location: Global. Methods: We used a database providing 1608 distribution records of 554 non‐native macrofungal species in 167 national and sub‐national regions worldwide. Regression models accounting for regional levels of recording capacity were used to relate spatial variation of non‐native macrofungal richness and of regional compositional similarities to variables representing geographical, socio‐economic and biophysical characteristics of regions. Temporal trends of first records were assessed at the global and continental scales and for distinct ecofunctional groups. Results: Regions reporting higher diversity of non‐native species occur mainly in Europe, the Americas and Oceania. Regression models showed that regions with greater gross domestic product per capita, areal extent and in the Southern Hemisphere have higher non‐native species richness, while regions with similar mean temperatures and latitudinal position share higher compositional similarities. Numbers of first records of non‐native macrofungi have grown quasi‐exponentially between 1753 and 2018, reflecting not only improved recording capacities but also likely an increasing number of introductions. Main Conclusions: We find that many regions of the world already harbour a high diversity of non‐native macrofungi, with economic, climatic and introduction pathway‐related factors explaining a relevant portion of the geographical patterns formed by these taxa. Given that socio‐economic activity has increased strongly in recent decades, the global anthropogenic redistribution of macrofungi is likely to intensify further in the near future. Fungi are a hyper-diverse kingdom that contributes significantly to the regulation of the global carbon and nutrient cycle. However, our understanding of the distribution of fungal diversity is often hindered by a lack of data, especially on a large spatial scale. Open biodiversity data may provide a solution, but concerns about the potential spatial and temporal bias in species occurrence data arising from different observers and sampling protocols challenge their utility. The theory of species accumulation curves predicts that the cumulative number of species reaches an asymptote when the sampling effort is sufficiently large. Thus, we hypothesize that open biodiversity data could be used to reveal large-scale macrofungal diversity patterns if these datasets are accumulated long enough. Here, we tested our hypothesis with 50 years of macrofungal occurrence records in Norway and Sweden that were downloaded from the Global Biodiversity Information Facility (GBIF). We first grouped the data into five temporal subsamples with different cumulative sampling efforts (i.e., accumulation of data for 10, 20, 30, 40 and 50 years). We then predicted the macrofungal diversity and distribution at each subsample using the maximum entropy (MaxEnt) species distribution model. The results revealed that the cumulative number of macrofungal species stabilized into distinct distribution patterns with localized hotspots of predicted macrofungal diversity with sampling efforts greater than approximately 30 years. Our research demonstrates the utility and importance of the long-term accumulated open biodiversity data in studying macrofungal diversity and distribution at the national level. Macrofungi are essential in forest ecological functioning. Their distribution and diversity are primarily impacted by vegetation, topography, and environmental factors, such as precipitation and temperature. However, the composition and topographical changes of the macrofungi between the eastern mountainous area and central plains of Jilin Province are currently unknown. For this study, we selected six investigational sites representing three different topographical research sites in Jilin Province to assess macrofungal diversity, and applied a quadrat sampling method. Macro- and micro-morphological characteristics combined with the molecular method were used to identify the collected macrofungi. Meanwhile, selected meteorological data were obtained for statistical analysis. As a result, 691 species were identified, of which Agarics were the most common, accounting for 60.23%, while the Cantharelloid fungi were the least common (0.91%). Furthermore, most of the shared genera (species) were saprophytic. The α diversity showed that the species diversity and richness in Longwan National Forest Park (B2) were the highest at the genus level. The mycorrhizal macrofungi proportion revealed that Quanshuidong Forest Farm (A1) was the healthiest. Finally, species composition similarity decreased with the transition from mountainous to hilly plains. We concluded that the occurrence of macrofungi was most influenced by vegetation. The air humidity, precipitation, and wind velocity were also found to significantly impact the occurrence of macrofungi. Finally, the mycorrhizal:saprophytic ratios and species similarity decreased with the transition from the mountainous area to the plains. The results presented here help elucidate the macrofungi composition and their relationship with environmental factors and topography in Jilin Province, which is crucial for sustainable utilization and future conservation. This work focused on obtaining fermented oil cake (cotton or Jatropha) via macrofungi growth with potential characteristics for animal feed formulations, such as the presence of extracellular enzymes, bioactive (ergosterol and antioxidants), and detoxification of antinutritional compounds. The concentration of phorbol esters was reduced by four macrofungi in Jatropha seed cake (JSC) to non-toxic levels. At least two macrofungi efficiently degraded free gossypol in cottonseed cake (CSC). Fermentation with Coriolopsis sp. INPA1646 and Tyromyces sp. INPA1696 resulted in increased ergosterol concentrations, antioxidant activity reduction, and high activity of laccases and proteases. Bromatological analysis indicated high crude protein concentrations, with partial solubilization by fungal proteases. Fermented products from Coriolopsis sp. and Tyromyces sp. in JSC or CSC can be considered important biological inputs for monogastric and polygastric animal feed. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Preserving fungal tissue DNA in the field is essential for molecular ecological research, enabling the study of fungal biodiversity and community dynamics. This study systematically compares two liquid-based preservation solutions, RNAlater and DESS, for their effectiveness in maintaining macrofungi DNA integrity during field collection and storage. The research encompasses both controlled experiments and real-world field collections. In the controlled experiments, two fungal species were preserved in RNAlater and DESS at different temperatures and durations. DNA extraction success rates were high, but DNA quality and quantity metrics exhibited variations across samples. However, both preservation solutions demonstrated their viability for preserving fungal DNA, with no significant differences between them. In the field-collected macrofungi experiment, 160 paired fungal specimens were preserved in RNAlater and DESS, respectively. Including a drying process to facilitate tissue lysis for DNA extraction significantly impacted the outcomes. RNAlater showed a higher success rate and better DNA quality and quantity compared to DESS. Statistical analysis, including paired and independent t-tests, confirmed significant differences in DNA quality and quantity between the two preservation methods for field-collected samples. This study evaluates RNAlater and DESS for preserving macrofungi DNA in field conditions. Both methods are effective, but RNAlater is superior when a drying step is included in DNA extraction. Researchers can choose based on their specific needs without compromising DNA integrity. The purpose of this study is to explore the genus Candolleomyces from Pakistan. Fungal surveys were conducted in different sites of the Punjab plains during the 2016-2022 period. Several specimens belonging to the family Psathyrellaceae were collected. Traditional morphology and multigene phylogenetic analyses confirmed the novelty and placement of the species in genus Candolleomyces . The phylogenetic study of the nuc rDNA internal transcribed spacer ITS1-5.8S-ITS2 (ITS) and partial 28S rRNA regions confirmed the distinct positions of four new taxa, Candolleomyces iqbalii, C. kotadduensis, C. pakistanicus , and C. parvipileus , in the genus. Currently, the genus consists of 43 species worldwide. However, with the inclusion of these four species, the total number has risen to 47. Detailed descriptions, phylogeny, comparisons, and illustrations are provided.

The Agaricales are the largest clade of mushroom-forming fungi, in Colombia, with 544 species of the approximately 16,000 species currently recognized worldwide in the phylum Basidiomycota. We document seven species of Agaricaceae for the first time from the Colombian Caribbean region. Two of these species are newly recorded from the country: Leucoagaricus lilaceus Singer and Leucoagaricus roseilividus (Murrill) E. Ludw. Five species are reported from the Colombian Caribbean for the first time: Agaricus griseorimosus Pegler, Chlorophyllum hortense (Murrill) Vellinga, Leucoagaricus rubrotinctus (Peck) Singer, Leucocoprinus cepistipes (Sowerby) Pat., and L. venezuelanus Dennis.

Waste generated in mushroom cultivation represents a valuable raw material with health benefits, the use of which contributes to a reduction in food waste and to the circular economy. Hydroethanolic extracts obtained by ultrasound-assisted extraction of four edible mushroom species (Agaricus bisporus var. Portobello, Boletus edulis, Lentinula edodes, and Pleurotus ostreatus) were characterized according to their antioxidant, antibacterial, and cosmeceutical potential. The extract with the best properties was incorporated into a cosmetic cream. Concerning the phenolic contents and antioxidant capacity, the extracts of A. bisporus and B. edulis stood out from the other two due to their higher levels. The compounds p-hydroxybenzoic and gallic acids were present in all mushrooms in the ranges of 0.010 to 2.554 µg/g DW and 0.032 to 0.112 µg/g DW, respectively. The extract of B. edulis inhibited all the bacterial isolates, with minimum inhibitory concentration values ranging from 5 to 20 mg/mL for Gram-positive and 10–20 mg/mL for Gram-negative strains. In the anti-hyaluronidase assay, A. bisporus extract (10 mg/mL) was the most effective, with 74.4 ± 7.5% enzyme inhibition, and was selected for incorporation into the cosmetic cream. The cream with A. bisporus extract showed significantly higher phenolic contents and antioxidant capacity than the cream without the extract. Overall, our results support the high value of mushroom reuse as a source of natural antioxidants in the cosmetic industry.

Basic components in the stability of natural ecosystems, with an an important role in nature conservation, macromycetes are indicators of different substrates and specific habitats. In this preliminary survey, some of the macroscopic fungi (Basidiomycota: Agaricomycetes) collected from "Agronomie-Herăstrău" campus of the University of Agronomic Sciences and Veterinary Medicine of Bucharest were morphological described, in terms of cap (pileus), gills (lamellae), stipe (stem), ring (annulus) and spores. Also, some aspects concerning edibility were discussed. The following species were subjected to the research: Coprinellus micaceus, Agaricus arvensis, Macrolepiota excoriata, Hypholoma fasciculare, Scleroderma citrinum, Xerocomellus porosporus and Marasmius oreades. The present study was conducted at 10 sites in Kishtwar High Altitude National Park (KHANP), Jammu and Kashmir, India, with the objective to analyse the diversity and distribution of macrofungal communities. A total of 40 permanent plots (four plots in each site) were established and macrofungal fruiting bodies were recorded monthly from each plot between July 2015 and October 2017. Diversity indices and canonical correspondence analysis were applied to determine the composition and environmental factors responsible for structuring the macrofungal communities in the study area. In total, 83 wild macrofungal species were identified belonging to 35 genera, 24 families and 9 orders. Humicolous fungi were the most dominant group of macrofungi contributing 71.8% of the total dominance, followed by lignicolous fungi (11.8%). The distribution of fruiting bodies of macrofungal species was mainly in groups, i.e. aggregated pattern (75.9%). The diversity indices varied from 20 to 37 (richness), 2.04 to 3.16 (Menhinick), 4.14 to 7.25 (Margalef), 0.03 to 0.06 (Simpson’s dominance), 2.91 to 3.49 (Shannon– Wiener’s diversity), 0.86 to 0.95 (evenness), 7.69 to 16.29 (Fisher’s alpha) and 0.05 to 0.12 (Berger–Parker diversity). Canonical correspondence analysis revealed that Scleroderma verrucosum, Boletus granulatus and Ramaria formosa were the most important species, and that mean temperature and rainfall were the key environmental factors responsible for the diversity and distribution of macrofungi in the present study. Phallus is known as stinkhorn mushroom. Previous reports have shown that this genus is recognized by the size and color of the basidioma, which is a highly plastic morphological character that can potentially lead to misidentification. In Indonesia, no study has combined morphological and molecular analyses to identify Phallus. This study aimed to determine the identity of Phallus that has the orange color of an indusium found in Bekasi, West Java, Indonesia. The morphological characteristics were described by observing the macroscopic and microscopic features of fresh specimens. Molecular analyses were performed based on the internal transcribed spacer 4/5 region sequence. The results showed that specimen BO24430 was identified as Phallus multicolor with 100% similarity in the BLAST results and a 98% bootstrap value on the phylogenetic tree. This taxonomic placement was supported by morphological features, such as a campanulate pileus, yellowish to white pseudostipe, brown to whitish eggs, and ellipsoid spores. This study is the only record of P. multicolor in Indonesia with a herbarium voucher since Boedijn in 1932. Approximately 30 years after the publication of the first Sicilian checklist of macrofungi, a new updated version is presented here. The census of macromycetes was carried out through periodic observations in different agricultural and forest ecosystems, in urban areas, in public and private gardens, and in botanical gardens. The 1919 infraspecific taxa included in 508 genera belonging to 152 families were collected in the Sicilian territory. Ectomycorrhizal fungi are the most represented ecological category, followed by saprotrophs on wood, saprotrophs on litter, and terricolous saprotrophs. The interest in this rich group of organisms is evidenced by the nutritional and therapeutic value of a high percentage of species. The actions linked to the National Recovery and Resilience Plan and The Network for the Study of Mycological Diversity will further increase the number of macrofungi for Sicily in the future. Macrofungal forays in different parts of Himalaya made it possible to gather a couple of interesting species of agarics. Two of them belonging to Cortinarius subg. Telamonia are dealt with in this paper. Cortinarius dombangensis, a member of sect. Hinnulei is proposed here as a new species and C. longistipitatus, a member of sect. Uracei subsect. The present study deals with the diversity of the genus Gymnopilus collected from Kashmir Himalaya. Frequent fungal forage were undertaken during spring, summer, and autumn seasons as a result of which a systematic account of various taxa of the genus Gymnopilus was compiled. In the present paper six species of the genus are taxonomically described and identified as G. decipiens, G. aeruginosus, G. fuscosquamulosus, G. crocias, G. junonius, and G. liquiritiae. Out of all described species G. decipiens is reported for the first time from India while the other four are reported for the first time from northern India. In addition, only G. aeruginosus is reported for the first time from Bangiward, southern Kashmir. Detailed morpho-anatomical characters of these species with habitat photographs, line drawings of macro and microscopic features are given. Paraguay an ecosystems are home to a great diversity of organisms in urban trees that include fungus-plant interactions, commonly called mycorrhizae. These mycorrhizaes present a number of subterranean hyphae that are difficult to visually appreciate and basidiocarps that grow together with certain forest species. Therefore, the objective of this research was to identify mycorrhizal associations between macrofungi and forest species that interact with each other in the urban trees of Asunción, Paraguay. For this, two squares (De las Américas and Infante Rivarola) and the Carlos Antonio López Park were selected as reference points. A tour was carried out to identify the floristic composition of urban trees in the aforementioned green spaces, and the observation of the existence of microrhizal fungi. The fruiting bodies of the macrofungi found were collected and taken to the Biology Laboratory of the Faculty of Agrarian Sciences of the National University of Asunción, they were dried for microscopic observation and identification. The forest species were identified using taxonomic keys, taking into account the size of the tree, the stem, the wood, the bark and the leaves. Three specimens of macrofungi of the genus Phlebopus were found associated with the trees of the Bignoniaceae and Fabaceae families in Asuncion green spaces. Simple Summary: Whitish lethal species of Amanita sect. Phalloideae ('destroying angels') are known to be among the most poisonous fungi worldwide due to their production of amatoxins. The taxonomy of species occurring in the Mediterranean region is here revised, clarifying the identity of several names. Amanita decipiens, A. porrinensis, and A. virosa var. levipes are here considered later heterotypic synonyms of A. verna, A. phalloides, and A. amerivirosa, respectively, while a new name, A. vidua, is proposed for a spring-occurring taxon. The amatoxins and phallotoxins present in Mediterranean destroying angels were characterized, and their epidemiology discussed on the basis of the case study of available data from Spain. In Europe, amatoxin-containing mushrooms are responsible for most of the deadly poisonings caused by macrofungi. The present work presents a multidisciplinary revision of the European species of Amanita sect. Phalloideae based on morphology, phylogeny, epidemiology, and biochemistry of amatoxins and phallotoxins. Five distinct species of this section have been identified in Europe to date: A. phalloides, A. virosa, A. verna, the recently introduced North American species A. amerivirosa, and A. vidua sp. nov., which is a new name proposed for the KOH-negative Mediterranean species previously described as A. verna or A. decipiens by various authors. Epitypes or neotypes are selected for species lacking suitable reference collections, namely A. verna and A. virosa. Three additional taxa, Amanita decipiens, A. porrinensis, and A. virosa var. levipes are here considered later heterotypic synonyms of A. verna, A. phalloides, and A. amerivirosa, respectively. During the routine survey for exploring the hidden macrofungal wealth of tropical Sal (Shorea robusta Roth) forests in West Bengal and Jharkhand (India), we found a specimen similar to Tylopilus plumbeoviolaceous (Snell & E.A.Dick) Snell & E.A.Dick. After careful morphological observations and phylogenetic analysis, the species was found to be conspecific with Tylopilus glutinosus Iqbal Hosen, a recently established taxon from Bangladesh. We report T. glutinosus for the first time from India and provide a detailed description, figures, a multigene phylogenetic analysis, and comprehensive comparisons with similar species. Colombia is a megadiverse country with many macrofungi species. Despite their ecological, anthropological, and economic importance, the distribution of many macrofungal species is still scarcely known in this country. Chlorophyllum molybdites (G. Mey.) Massee is a poisonous macrofungus common in urban settings of tropical and subtropical regions. In Colombia it has only been reported in three of 32 departments. To fill this gap in knowledge we morphologically describe for the first time C. molybdites from the city of Bucaramanga, Department of Santander, extending the known distribution of this macrofungus in Colombia. Two new wood-inhabiting fungi Hermanssonia fimbriata sp. nov. and Phlebia austroasiana sp. nov. in the Meruliaceae family are described and illustrated from southwestern China based on molecular and morphological evidence. The characteristics of H. fimbriata include annual, resupinate basidiomata, the absence of cystidia and cystidioles, oblong ellipsoid basidiospores of 5–6 × 2.4–3 μm, and growth on rotten gymnosperm wood in the east Himalayas. Its basidiomata change drastically upon drying, from being a light-coloured, juicy, papillose-to-wrinkled hymenophore, to a dark-coloured, corky-to-gelatinous, and more or less smooth hymenophore. The characteristics of Ph. austroasiana include annual, resupinate basidiomata, a hydnoid hymenophore, 2–3 spines per mm, the presence of tubular cystidia of 20–25 × 3–3.5 µm, oblong ellipsoid basidiospores of 4.4–5.2 × 2.1–3 μm, and growth on angiosperm wood in tropical forests in the southern Yunnan Province. The phylogenetic analyses based on the combined 2-locus dataset (ITS1-5.8S-ITS2 (ITS) + nuclear large subunit RNA (nLSU)) confirm the placement of two new species, respectively, in Hermanssonia and Phlebia s. lato. Trametopsis is a worldwide genus belonging to Irpicaceae in the phlebioid clade, which can cause a white decay of wood. Previously, only three species were ascribed to the genus. In this study, we performed a morphological and phylogenetic study of Trametopsis. Molecular phylogenetic analyses of multiple loci included the internal transcribed spacer (ITS) regions, the large subunit nuclear ribosomal RNA gene (nLSU), the largest subunit of RNA polymerase II (RPB1), the second largest subunit of RNA polymerase II (RPB2) and the translation elongation factor 1-α gene (TEF1). Phylogenetic trees were inferred from the combined datasets of ITS+nLSU sequences and ITS+nLSU+RPB1+RPB2+TEF1 sequences by using maximum parsimony, maximum likelihood and Bayesian inference analyses. Combined with molecular data, morphological characters and ecological traits, two new species of Trametopsis are discovered. Trametopsis abieticola is characterised by its pileate, solitary or imbricate basidiomata, buff to buff-yellow pileal surface when fresh, becoming pinkish buff to clay-buff when dry, cream to buff pore surface when fresh, becoming pinkish buff to greyish brown upon drying, round to angular and large pores (0.5–1 per mm), cylindrical basidiospores (5.8–7.2 × 1.9–2.6 μm), distributed in the high altitude of mountains and grows on Abies sp. Trametopsis tasmanica is characterised by its resupinate basidiomata, cream to pinkish-buff pore surface when fresh, becoming honey-yellow to snuff brown upon drying, cylindrical basidiospores (5.2–6.3 × 1.8–2.2 μm), and by growing on Eucalyptus sp. Simple Summary: Southern Poland exhibits a diverse array of habitats for fungi; however, little is known about the richness and diversity of macrofungi occurring in xerothermic grasslands known as dry grasslands. Xerothermic grasslands with their unique flora and fauna are among the most valuable and, at the same time, most severely threatened habitats of Europe's natural environment. Studies on such habitats were conducted in southern Poland during the period of 2010 to 2013. Macrofungal communities were investigated in seven plant associations of xerothermic grasslands in the Nida Basin located in the Małopolska Upland of southern Poland. Designation of associations at selected study sites was based on phytosociological relevés using the Braun-Blanquet method. During the years 2010–2013, we studied the diversity and distribution of macrofungi in dry grasslands, where 164 species of basidio- and ascomycetes were recovered. We determined the properties of the studied fungal communities and habitat preferences of individual species found in the analyzed xerothermic plant associations using ecological indicators for macrofungi according to Ellenberg indicator values. Diversity patterns of fungal communities in xerothermic grasslands are strongly influenced by various environmental factors. In our study, we focused on recording the fruiting bodies of all macrofungi and the proportion of each species in the study communities, as well as possible identification of the most likely indicator species for particular habitats. We found significant differences for two of the seven associations analyzed, namely Thalictro-Salvietum pratensis and Inuletum ensifoliae. Agri-food production is affected by various factors, such as insect pests. Inadequate use of pesticides has generated resistance, and some pesticides have been shown to affect human health and the environment. Therefore, alternative control methods have been sought, such as the use of biocontrol with fungi; these organisms have shown activity against insect pests. Thus, this review compiles relevant and important studies that have been carried out over the last four decades. In general, fungi are divided into two large groups, macroscopic and microscopic fungi. In these two groups, possible fungal candidates with activity against insects have been found. They were subdivided into two groups: microscopic entomopathogenic fungi and macroscopic entomopathogenic fungi with basidiomata. In the case of microscopic entomopathogenic fungi, only the main species of these fungi (Metarhizium anisopliae, Beauveria bassiana, and Isaria fumosorosea) have been examined. These fungi present degrees of specificity at the family or closely related species level. For these three fungal species alone, more than 500 species of affected insects have been reported in this and other reviews. Finally, more than 200 species of fungi with basidiomata have been studied for their insecticidal activity. Additionally, possible compounds with insecticidal activity, such as ibotenic acid, beauvericin, ergosterol, and ostreolysin, are described. The studies found in the present review of fungi with insecticidal activity are promising. Macrofungi form fruiting bodies that can be detected with the naked eye in the field and handled by hand. They mostly consist of basidiomycetes, but also include some ascomycetes. Mycology in Pakistan is still in its infancy, but there have been many historical reports and checklists of macrofungi occurrence from its 15 ecoregions, which range from Himalayan alpine grasslands and subtropical pine forests to deserts and xeric shrublands. In this work, we searched and reviewed the historical literature and the GenBank database for compiling a comprehensive list of macrofungi reported from Pakistan to date. We recorded 1,293 species belonging to 411 genera, 115 families and 24 orders. These occurrences were updated taxonomically following the classification system currently proposed in the Index Fungorum website. The highest represented order by taxon number is Agaricales (47%) with 31 families, 146 genera and 602 species, followed by Polyporales (11%), Russulales (9%) and Pezizales (8%). Genera occurrence reported therein are presented for each ecoregion to the best of our ability given the data. We also discussed the currently known macrofungi diversity between different ecoregions in Pakistan. Overall, this work should serve as a solid foundation for the inclusion of Pakistan macrofungi in global biodiversity and conservation studies. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
