Abstract

Feline leukemia virus (FeLV) is the cause of neoplastic and degenerative disorders and immunosuppression in domestic cats. FeLV has never been reported in Bengal tiger (Panthera tigris tigris). Necropsy findings of a white Bengal tigress were a subcutaneous mass of 10 cm in diameter in the right rear limb which was classified as fibrosarcoma. In agreement with macroscopic and microscopic lesions, the morphologic diagnosis was consistent with a multisystemic disease characterized by fibrinonecrotic and suppurative broncopneumonia with multifocal severe bronchiectasis, severe icteric hepatomegaly and renal amyloidosis with membranoproliferative glomerulonephritis. Furthermore, a serum sample was positive to FeLV when diagnosed by ELISA. This report concluded that FeLV was associated with the pathological findings and death of the tigress. Abstract

In our work, we investigated the wideband optical filter on the basis of nonlinear photonic crystal. The all-optical flip-flop using ultra-short pulses with duration lower than 200 f s is obtained in such filters. Here we pay special attention to the stability problem of the nonlinear element. To investigate this problem, the temporal response demonstrating the flip-flop have been computed within the certain range of the wavelengths as well as at different input power. Abstract

The formation constants of the fluoroquinolones norfloxacin and ciprofloxacin with Mg2+ (log beta 1 = 2.97(4), log beta 2 = 5.6(2)), Zn2+ (log beta 1 = 3.77(2), log beta 2 = 7.59(3)), and Fe2+ (log beta 1 = 3.99(5), log beta 2 = 7.2(5)) were determined by potentiometric titration. The pH at which precipitation occurred in the titration solutions was compared for the metal ions Ca2+, Mg2+, Zn2+, Fe2+, Cu2+, and Al3+. The formation constants were used to predict a rank order of metals that may be expected to hinder the gastrointestinal absorption of the fluoroquinolones, in vivo. The effects of metal ions on the pharmacokinetics of orally-administered norfloxacin in the dog were investigated. Norfloxacin (12 mg/kg) was administered alone or with equimolar doses of each of the chloride salts of Ca2+, Mg2+, Zn2+, Fe2+, and Al3+. Statistically significant reductions in serum norfloxacin concentrations were observed after analysis by HPLC. The Cmax was reduced 29-85%, while the area under the norfloxacin serum concentration-time curve (AUC0-infinity) was reduced by 29-79%. The extent of the reduction in AUC0-infinity was correlated with the magnitude of the formation constant of the 1:1 norfloxacin:metal chelate complex for the divalent metal ions. On coadministration of 12 mg/kg norfloxacin with various doses of Mg2+ (chloride) the AUC0-infinity and Cmax decreased with increasing Mg2+ dose. The interaction peaked at a Mg2+:norfloxacin ratio of 1:2 suggesting the formation of a 1:2 Mg:norfloxacin complex. Formation constant data were used to simulate the percentage of norfloxacin complexed at pH 6.5. Combinations of metal ion and norfloxacin which result in only a small extent (< 20%) of norfloxacin complex formation can result in relatively large decreases in oral bioavailability of this antimicrobial agent.

Abstract

Este trabalho tem o objetivo analisar a incidência de bullying em Escolas Públicas, verificando as ações da gestão em relação a esta violência, que presente no ambiente escolar e tem trazido graves consequências para quem a sofre. A pesquisa foi desenvolvida em duas escolas, sendo uma municipal e outra estadual, situadas no município de Jaguarão, Rio Grande do Sul. Nestas escolas foram desenvolvidas entrevistas com professores, equipes de gestão e pais, permitindo conhecer melhor a realidade das escolas, especialmente, as ocorrências de bullying. Os dados indicam que uma das escolas ainda não tem uma proposta efetiva voltada ao enfrentamento do bullying, ao passo que a outra já tem um trabalho em busca da cultura de paz, permitindo amenizar os efeitos das agressões. No ambiente escolar, buscar alternativas para reduzir o bullying é uma ação básica da educação.

Abstract

O artigo versa sobre a violência intentada contra jovens numa região de fronteira Brasil/Uruguai. Analisa as violências a que são submetidos cotidianamente os jovens de diferentes grupos sociais a partir de uma pesquisa qualitativa que foi desenvolvida junto ao Curso de Doutorado na Universidade Católica de Pelotas/RS. Os dados foram coletados em arquivos, documentos e por entrevistas realizadas e posteriormente foram trabalhados a partir da abordagem de análise de conteúdo. Os resultados mostram que a violência atinge a todos, mas de forma mais acentuada aquele grupo social que provém de uma condição de maior vulnerabilidade econômica, social e cultural. Evidencia a Fronteira como um espaço de complexidades o que exige uma ação mais presente e contundente das políticas públicas, condição fundamental para a materialização dos Direitos humanos. A existência das violências representam a negação de uma plena efetivação de um Estado Democrático de Direito.
