In this extended abstract, we have introduced a highly memory-efficient state vector simulation of quantum circuits premised on data compression, harnessing the capabilities of both CPUs and GPUs. We have elucidated the inherent challenges in architecting this system, while concurrently proposing our tailored solutions. Moreover, we have delineated our preliminary implementation and deliberated upon the potential for integration with other GPU-oriented simulators. In forthcoming research, we aim to present a more comprehensive set of results, bolstering the assertion of the efficacy and performance of our approach.

We construct Carrollian scalar field theories in general dimensions, mainly focusing on the boundaries of Minkowski and Rindler spacetime, whose quantum flux operators form a faithful representation of Carrollian diffeomorphism up to a central charge, respectively. At future/past null infinity, the fluxes are physically observable and encode rich information of the radiation. The central charge may be regularized to be finite by the spectral zeta function or heat kernel method on the unit sphere. For the theory at the Rindler horizon, the effective central charge is proportional to the area of the bifurcation surface after regularization. Moreover, the zero mode of supertranslation is identified as the modular Hamiltonian, linking Carrollian diffeomorphism to quantum information theory. The $\mathbb{R}$-motivic cohomology of an $\mathbb{R}$-motivic spectrum is a module over the $\mathbb{R}$-motivic Steenrod algebra $\mathcal{A}^{\mathbb{R}}$. In this paper, we describe how to recover the $\mathbb{R}$-motivic cohomology of the Spanier-Whitehead dual $\mathrm{DX}$ of an $\mathbb{R}$-motivic finite complex $\mathrm{X}$, as an $\mathcal{A}^{\mathbb{R}}$-module, given the $\mathcal{A}^{\mathbb{R}}$-module structure on the cohomology of $\mathrm{X}$. As an application, we show that 16 out of 128 different $\mathcal{A}^{\mathbb{R}}$-module structures on $\mathcal{A}^{\mathbb{R}}(1):= \langle \mathrm{Sq}^1, \mathrm{Sq}^2 \rangle$ are self-dual., Comment: Some minor typos fixed. 15 pages. Near-term quantum computing technologies grapple with huge complexity overheads, hindering their ability to induce algorithms, necessitating engineering and scientific innovations. One class of problems of interest is Quantum Simulation, whereby quantum systems are simulated using a quantum computer. However, current devices are yet to surpass classical tensor network techniques. For problems of interest, where classical simulation techniques fail, large degrees of entanglement are required. Another challenge of implementing quantum simulation problems is that qubits sit idle whilst alternating simulation terms are implemented, exposing the system to decoherence. In the near term, 2D planar superconducting lattices of circuit-QED elements such as the transmon continue to draw substantial attention, but they are hindered by their nearest neighbor topology and relatively short lifespan, two problems that are problematic for quantum simulation. One technology of particular interest is the multi-mode superconducting resonator capable of storing multiple qubits in one device. We observe that these cavities have a natural virtual topology that aligns particularly well with quantum simulation problems, and exhibit much longer lifespans in comparison to other planar superconducting hardware. In this paper we present MUCIC, we discuss the simple integration of these devices into the current landscape and their implications to quantum simulation, motivated by their alignment to the quantum simulation problem, and potential as a quantum memory candidate. We report the development of MUCICs transpiler, leading to reductions of up to 82% in quantum simulation circuit depths. Additionally, our investigation demonstrates improvements of up to 19.4% in converged results from Variational Quantum Algorithms.

Memory is an indispensable component in classical computing systems. While the development of quantum computing is still in its early stages, current quantum processing units mainly function as quantum registers. Consequently, the actual role of quantum memory in future advanced quantum computing architectures remains unclear. With the rapid scaling of qubits, it is opportune to explore the potential and feasibility of quantum memory across different substrate device technologies and application scenarios. In this paper, we provide a full design stack view of quantum memory. We start from the elementary component of a quantum memory device, quantum memory cells. We provide an abstraction to a quantum memory cell and define metrics to measure the performance of physical platforms. Combined with addressing functionality, we then review two types of quantum memory devices: random access quantum memory (RAQM) and quantum random access memory (QRAM). Building on top of these devices, quantum memory units in the computing architecture, including building a quantum memory unit, quantum cache, quantum buffer, and using QRAM for the quantum input-output module, are discussed. We further propose the programming model for the quantum memory units and discuss their possible applications. Click-through rate (CTR) prediction is a crucial issue in recommendation systems. There has been an emergence of various public CTR datasets. However, existing datasets primarily suffer from the following limitations. Firstly, users generally click different types of items from multiple scenarios, and modeling from multiple scenarios can provide a more comprehensive understanding of users. Existing datasets only include data for the same type of items from a single scenario. Secondly, multi-modal features are essential in multi-scenario prediction as they address the issue of inconsistent ID encoding between different scenarios. The existing datasets are based on ID features and lack multi-modal features. Third, a large-scale dataset can provide a more reliable evaluation of models, fully reflecting the performance differences between models. The scale of existing datasets is around 100 million, which is relatively small compared to the real-world CTR prediction. To address these limitations, we propose AntM$^{2}$C, a Multi-Scenario Multi-Modal CTR dataset based on industrial data from Alipay. Specifically, AntM$^{2}$C provides the following advantages: 1) It covers CTR data of 5 different types of items, providing insights into the preferences of users for different items, including advertisements, vouchers, mini-programs, contents, and videos. 2) Apart from ID-based features, AntM$^{2}$C also provides 2 multi-modal features, raw text and image features, which can effectively establish connections between items with different IDs. 3) AntM$^{2}$C provides 1 billion CTR data with 200 features, including 200 million users and 6 million items. It is currently the largest-scale CTR dataset available. Based on AntM$^{2}$C, we construct several typical CTR tasks and provide comparisons with baseline methods. We study constructive interference based block-level precoding (CI-BLP) in the downlink of multi-user multiple-input single-output (MU-MISO) systems. Specifically, our aim is to extend the analysis on CI-BLP to the case where the considered number of symbol slots is smaller than that of the users. To this end, we mathematically prove the feasibility of using the pseudo-inverse to obtain the optimal CI-BLP precoding matrix in a closed form. Similar to the case when the number of users is small, we show that a quadratic programming (QP) optimization on simplex can be constructed. We also design a low-complexity algorithm based on the alternating direction method of multipliers (ADMM) framework, which can efficiently solve large-scale QP problems. We further analyze the convergence and complexity of the proposed algorithm. Numerical results validate our analysis and the optimality of the proposed algorithm, and further show that the proposed algorithm offers a flexible performance-complexity tradeoff by limiting the maximum number of iterations, which motivates the use of CI-BLP in practical wireless systems.

The growth of the Machine-Learning-As-A-Service (MLaaS) market has highlighted clients' data privacy and security issues. Private inference (PI) techniques using cryptographic primitives offer a solution but often have high computation and communication costs, particularly with non-linear operators like ReLU. Many attempts to reduce ReLU operations exist, but they may need heuristic threshold selection or cause substantial accuracy loss. This work introduces AutoReP, a gradient-based approach to lessen non-linear operators and alleviate these issues. It automates the selection of ReLU and polynomial functions to speed up PI applications and introduces distribution-aware polynomial approximation (DaPa) to maintain model expressivity while accurately approximating ReLUs. Our experimental results demonstrate significant accuracy improvements of 6.12% (94.31%, 12.9K ReLU budget, CIFAR-10), 8.39% (74.92%, 12.9K ReLU budget, CIFAR-100), and 9.45% (63.69%, 55K ReLU budget, Tiny-ImageNet) over current state-of-the-art methods, e.g., SNL. The success of a quantum algorithm hinges on the ability to orchestrate a successful application induction. Detrimental overheads in mapping general quantum circuits to physically implementable routines can be the deciding factor between a successful and erroneous circuit induction. In QASMTrans, we focus on the problem of rapid circuit transpilation. Transpilation plays a crucial role in converting high-level, machine-agnostic circuits into machine-specific circuits constrained by physical topology and supported gate sets. The efficiency of transpilation continues to be a substantial bottleneck, especially when dealing with larger circuits requiring high degrees of inter-qubit interaction. QASMTrans is a high-performance C++ quantum transpiler framework that demonstrates up to 369X speedups compared to the commonly used Qiskit transpiler. We observe speedups on large dense circuits such as uccsd_n24 and qft_n320 which require O(10^6) gates. QASMTrans successfully transpiles the aforementioned circuits in 69s and 31s, whilst Qiskit exceeded an hour of transpilation time. With QASMTrans providing transpiled circuits in a fraction of the time of prior transpilers, potential design space exploration, and heuristic-based transpiler design becomes substantially more tractable. Quantum Error Correction (QEC) codes are essential for achieving fault-tolerant quantum computing (FTQC). However, their implementation faces significant challenges due to disparity between required dense qubit connectivity and sparse hardware architectures. Current approaches often either underutilize QEC circuit features or focus on manual designs tailored to specific codes and architectures, limiting their capability and generality. In response, we introduce QECC-Synth, an automated compiler for QEC code implementation that addresses these challenges. We leverage the ancilla bridge technique tailored to the requirements of QEC circuits and introduces a systematic classification of its design space flexibilities. We then formalize this problem using the MaxSAT framework to optimize these flexibilities. Evaluation shows that our method significantly outperforms existing methods while demonstrating broader applicability across diverse QEC codes and hardware architectures.

In this paper, we study the strategic investment problem of battery energy storage systems (BESSs) in the wholesale electricity market from the perspective of BESSs owners. Large-scale BESSs planning without considering the possible wholesale market price change may result in possible locational marginal price (LMP) changes. To overcome such limits, we propose a three-phase approach for the BESS investment problem. In Phase-1, we conduct a search for the optimal BESS configurations via a congestion-based heuristics and Bayesian optimization. In Phases 2 and 3, we alternatively dispatch optimization tasks to optimize the wholesale market clearing for LMPs and identify the optimal schedule for BESSs operations. We validate the model using a ten-year simulation on the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) market. Experimental results show that the Bayesian optimization model runs 16 times faster than the grid search model in achieving the same solution quality. Further, the iterative method demonstrates that the model without considering possible LMP changes makes a 21% profit overestimation.

Consider a multiuser multiple-input multiple-output (MU-MIMO) downlink system in which the base station (BS) sends multiple data streams to multi-antenna users via symbol-level precoding (SLP), where the optimization of receive combining matrix becomes crucial, unlike in the single-antenna user scenario. We begin by introducing a joint optimization problem on the symbol-level transmit precoder and receive combiner. The problem is solved using the alternating optimization (AO) method, and the optimal solution structures for transmit precoding and receive combining matrices are derived by using Lagrangian and Karush-Kuhn-Tucker (KKT) conditions, based on which, the original problem is transformed into an equivalent quadratic programming problem, enabling more efficient solutions. To address the challenge that the above joint design is difficult to implement, we propose a more practical scheme where the receive combining optimization is replaced by the interference rejection combiner (IRC), which is however difficult to directly use because of the rank-one transmit precoding matrix. Therefore, we introduce a new regularized IRC (RIRC) receiver to circumvent the above issue. Numerical results demonstrate that the practical SLP-RIRC method enjoys only a slight communication performance loss compared to the joint transmit precoding and receive combining design, both offering substantial performance gains over the conventional BD-based approaches., Comment: 13 pages, 10 figures

Quantum computing presents a promising approach for machine learning with its capability for extremely parallel computation in high-dimension through superposition and entanglement. Despite its potential, existing quantum learning algorithms, such as Variational Quantum Circuits(VQCs), face challenges in handling more complex datasets, particularly those that are not linearly separable. What's more, it encounters the deployability issue, making the learning models suffer a drastic accuracy drop after deploying them to the actual quantum devices. To overcome these limitations, this paper proposes a novel spatial-temporal design, namely ST-VQC, to integrate non-linearity in quantum learning and improve the robustness of the learning model to noise. Specifically, ST-VQC can extract spatial features via a novel block-based encoding quantum sub-circuit coupled with a layer-wise computation quantum sub-circuit to enable temporal-wise deep learning. Additionally, a SWAP-Free physical circuit design is devised to improve robustness. These designs bring a number of hyperparameters. After a systematic analysis of the design space for each design component, an automated optimization framework is proposed to generate the ST-VQC quantum circuit. The proposed ST-VQC has been evaluated on two IBM quantum processors, ibm_cairo with 27 qubits and ibmq_lima with 7 qubits to assess its effectiveness. The results of the evaluation on the standard dataset for binary classification show that ST-VQC can achieve over 30% accuracy improvement compared with existing VQCs on actual quantum computers. Moreover, on a non-linear synthetic dataset, the ST-VQC outperforms a linear classifier by 27.9%, while the linear classifier using classical computing outperforms the existing VQC by 15.58%.

This paper investigates the utilization of simultaneously transmitting and reflecting RIS (STAR-RIS) in supporting joint physical layer security (PLS) and covert communications (CCs) in a multi-antenna millimeter wave (mmWave) system, where the base station (BS) communicates with both covert and security users while defeating eavesdropping by wardens with the help of a STAR-RIS. Specifically, analytical derivations are performed to obtain the closed-form expression of warden's minimum detection error probability (DEP). Furthermore, the asymptotic result of the minimum DEP and the lower bound of the secure rates are derived, considering the practical assumption that BS only knows the statistical channel state information (CSI) between STAR-RIS and the wardens. Subsequently, an optimization problem is formulated with the aim of maximizing the average sum of the covert rate and the minimum secure rate while ensuring the covert requirement and quality of service (QoS) for legal users by jointly optimizing the active and passive beamformers. Due to the strong coupling among variables, an iterative algorithm based on the alternating strategy and the semi-definite relaxation (SDR) method is proposed to solve the non-convex optimization problem. Simulation results indicate that the performance of the proposed STAR-RIS-assisted scheme greatly surpasses that of the conventional RIS scheme, which validates the superiority of STAR-RIS in simultaneously implementing PLS and CCs.

In this paper, we present an innovative symbol-level precoding (SLP) approach for a wideband multi-user multi-input multi-output (MU-MIMO) downlink Integrated Sensing and Communications (ISAC) system employing faster-than-Nyquist (FTN) signaling. Our proposed technique minimizes the minimum mean squared error (MMSE) for the sensed parameter estimation while ensuring the communication per-user quality-of-service through the utilization of constructive interference (CI) methodologies. While the formulated problem is non-convex in general, we tackle this issue using proficient minorization and successive convex approximation (SCA) strategies. Numerical results substantiate that our FTN-ISAC-SLP framework significantly enhances communication throughput while preserving satisfactory sensing performance.

In this paper, we investigate the rigidity of the stable comodule category of a specific class of Hopf algebroids known as finite Adams, shedding light on its Picard group. Then we establish a reduction process through base changes, enabling us to effectively compute the Picard group of the $\mathbb{R}$-motivic mod $2$ Steenrod subalgebra $\mathcal{A}(1)^{\mathbb{R}}$. Our computation shows that $\operatorname{Pic}(\mathcal{A}(1)^{\mathbb{R}})$ is isomorphic to $\mathbb{Z}^4$, where two ranks come from the motivic grading, one from the algebraic loop functor, and the last is generated by the $\mathbb{R}$-motivic joker $J$., Comment: 18 pages, 4 figures

The equation of state of neutron-rich nuclear matter is of interest to both nuclear physics and astrophysics. We have demonstrated the consistency between laboratory and astrophysical nuclear matter in neutron stars by considering low-density nuclear physics constraints (from $^{208}$Pb neutron-skin thickness) and high-density astrophysical constraints (from neutron star global properties). We have used both quark-level and hadron-level models, taking the quark mean-field (QMF) model and the relativistic mean-field (RMF) model as examples, respectively. We have constrained the equation of states of neutron stars and some key nuclear matter parameters within the Bayesian statistical approach, using the first multi-messenger event GW170817/AT 2017gfo, as well as the mass-radius simultaneous measurements of PSR J0030+0451 and PSR J0740+6620 from NICER, and the neutron-skin thickness of $^{208}$Pb from both PREX-II measurement and ab initio calculations. Our results show that, compared with the RMF model, QMF model's direct coupling of quarks with mesons and gluons leads to the evolution of the in-medium nucleon mass with the quark mass correction. This feature enables QMF model a wider range of model applicability, as shown by a slow drop of the nucleon mass with density and a large value at saturation that is jointly constrained by nuclear physics and astronomy., Comment: 14 pages, 4 figures, 3 tables, Phys. Federated Learning (FL) is a distributed learning paradigm that empowers edge devices to collaboratively learn a global model leveraging local data. Simulating FL on GPU is essential to expedite FL algorithm prototyping and evaluations. However, current FL frameworks overlook the disparity between algorithm simulation and real-world deployment, which arises from heterogeneous computing capabilities and imbalanced workloads, thus misleading evaluations of new algorithms. Additionally, they lack flexibility and scalability to accommodate resource-constrained clients. In this paper, we present FedHC, a scalable federated learning framework for heterogeneous and resource-constrained clients. FedHC realizes system heterogeneity by allocating a dedicated and constrained GPU resource budget to each client, and also simulates workload heterogeneity in terms of framework-provided runtime. Furthermore, we enhance GPU resource utilization for scalable clients by introducing a dynamic client scheduler, process manager, and resource-sharing mechanism. Our experiments demonstrate that FedHC has the capability to capture the influence of various factors on client execution time. Moreover, despite resource constraints for each client, FedHC achieves state-of-the-art efficiency compared to existing frameworks without limits. When subjecting existing frameworks to the same resource constraints, FedHC achieves a 2.75x speedup. Code has been released on https://github.com/if-lab-repository/FedHC.

Robotic ultrasound (US) systems have shown great potential to make US examinations easier and more accurate. Recently, various machine learning techniques have been proposed to realize automatic US image interpretation for robotic US acquisition tasks. However, obtaining large amounts of real US imaging data for training is usually expensive or even unfeasible in some clinical applications. An alternative is to build a simulator to generate synthetic US data for training, but the differences between simulated and real US images may result in poor model performance. This work presents a Sim2Real framework to efficiently learn robotic US image analysis tasks based only on simulated data for real-world deployment. A style transfer module is proposed based on unsupervised contrastive learning and used as a preprocessing step to convert the real US images into the simulation style. Thereafter, a task-relevant model is designed to combine CNNs with vision transformers to generate the task-dependent prediction with improved generalization ability. We demonstrate the effectiveness of our method in an image regression task to predict the probe position based on US images in robotic transesophageal echocardiography (TEE). Our results show that using only simulated US data and a small amount of unlabelled real data for training, our method can achieve comparable performance to semi-supervised and fully supervised learning methods. Moreover, the effectiveness of our previously proposed CT-based US image simulation method is also indirectly confirmed.

The investigation of the phase state of dense matter is hindered by complications of first-principle nonperturbative quantum chromodynamics. By performing the first consistent general-relativistic calculations of tidal-excited g-mode of neutron stars with a first-order strong interaction phase transition in the high-density core, we demonstrate that gravitational wave signal during binary neutron star inspiral probes their innermost hadron-quark transition and provides potent constraints from present and future gravitational-wave detectors., Comment: 15 pages, 8 figures with appendix, published version

Executing quantum applications with quantum error correction (QEC) faces the gate non-universality problem imposed by the Eastin-Knill theorem. As one resource-time-efficient solution, code switching changes the encoding of logical qubits to implement universal logical gates. Unfortunately, it is still unclear how to perform full-stack fault-tolerant quantum computing (FTQC) based on the changeable logical qubit. Specifically, three critical problems remain unsolved: a) how to implement the dynamic logical qubit on hardware; b) how to determine the appropriate timing for logical qubit varying; c) how to improve the overall system performance for programs of different features. To overcome those design problems, We propose CECQ, to explore the large design space for FTQC based on changeable logical qubits. Experiments on various quantum programs demonstrate the effectiveness of CECQ.

Noisy Intermediate-Scale Quantum Computing (NISQ) has dominated headlines in recent years, with the longer-term vision of Fault-Tolerant Quantum Computation (FTQC) offering significant potential albeit at currently intractable resource costs and quantum error correction (QEC) overheads. For problems of interest, FTQC will require millions of physical qubits with long coherence times, high-fidelity gates, and compact sizes to surpass classical systems. Just as heterogeneous specialization has offered scaling benefits in classical computing, it is likewise gaining interest in FTQC. However, systematic use of heterogeneity in either hardware or software elements of FTQC systems remains a serious challenge due to the vast design space and variable physical constraints. This paper meets the challenge of making heterogeneous FTQC design practical by introducing HetArch, a toolbox for designing heterogeneous quantum systems, and using it to explore heterogeneous design scenarios. Using a hierarchical approach, we successively break quantum algorithms into smaller operations (akin to classical application kernels), thus greatly simplifying the design space and resulting tradeoffs. Specializing to superconducting systems, we then design optimized heterogeneous hardware composed of varied superconducting devices, abstracting physical constraints into design rules that enable devices to be assembled into standard cells optimized for specific operations. Finally, we provide a heterogeneous design space exploration framework which reduces the simulation burden by a factor of 10^4 or more and allows us to characterize optimal design points. We use these techniques to design superconducting quantum modules for entanglement distillation, error correction, and code teleportation, reducing error rates by 2.6x, 10.7x, and 3.0x compared to homogeneous systems.

Recent studies have shown that Binary Graph Neural Networks (GNNs) are promising for saving computations of GNNs through binarized tensors. Prior work, however, mainly focused on algorithm designs or training techniques, leaving it open to how to materialize the performance potential on accelerator hardware fully. This work redesigns the binary GNN inference backend from the efficiency perspective. It fills the gap by proposing a series of abstractions and techniques to map binary GNNs and their computations best to fit the nature of bit manipulations on GPUs. Results on real-world graphs with GCNs, GraphSAGE, and GraphSAINT show that the proposed techniques outperform state-of-the-art binary GNN implementations by 8-22X with the same accuracy maintained. In this work, a modified two-flavor NJL-type model is utilized, in which the contact current-current interaction is Fierz-transformed into quark-antiquark interactions and quark-quark interactions, which are directly related to the chiral condensate and diquark condensate, respectively. Under mean-field approximation, the chiral condensate and the diquark condensate are studied on the same footing.
