Background: The aim of this study was to investigate the efficacy of bevacizumab (Bev) in reducing peritumoral brain edema (PTBE) after stereotactic radiotherapy (SRT) for lung cancer brain metastases., Methods: A retrospective analysis was conducted on 44 patients with lung cancer brain metastases (70 lesions) who were admitted to our oncology and Gamma Knife center from January 2020 to May 2022. All patients received intracranial SRT and had PTBE. Based on treatment with Bev, patients were categorized as SRT + Bev and SRT groups. Follow-up head magnetic resonance imaging was performed to calculate PTBE and tumor volume changes. The edema index (EI) was used to assess the severity of PTBE. Additionally, the extent of tumor reduction and intracranial progression-free survival (PFS) were compared between the two groups., Results: The SRT + Bev group showed a statistically significant difference in EI values before and after radiotherapy (p = 0.0115), with lower values observed after treatment, but there was no difference in the SRT group (p = 0.4008). There was a difference in the distribution of EI grades in the SRT + Bev group (p = 0.0186), with an increased proportion of patients at grades 1-2 after radiotherapy, while there was no difference in the SRT group (p > 0.9999). Both groups demonstrated a significant reduction in tumor volume after radiotherapy (p < 0.05), but there was no difference in tumor volume changes between the two groups (p = 0.4089). There was no difference in intracranial PFS between the two groups (p = 0.1541)., Conclusion: Bevacizumab significantly reduces the severity of PTBE after radiotherapy for lung cancer. This study aimed to investigate the clinical, radiological, and pathological characteristics of pathologies involving the buccal fat pad (BFP) and to explore the treatment protocols. The cases of 109 patients with primary pathologies involving the BFP (pBFP) diagnosed between January 2013 and September 2021 were assessed. The patients' clinical presentations and radiological and histopathological findings were analysed retrospectively, and their treatment outcomes were evaluated. The 109 pBFP were categorized as benign tumours (n = 17), malignant tumours (n = 29), vascular malformations (n = 38), and inflammatory masses (n = 25). Of the 17 benign tumours, seven were lipomas, five were pleomorphic adenomas, three were solitary fibrous tumours, and two were other tumours. The 29 malignant tumours included five adenoid cystic carcinomas, six mucoepidermoid carcinomas, three synovial sarcomas, and 15 other tumours. Of the 38 vascular malformations, 37 were venous and one was arteriovenous. Regarding the inflammatory masses, the lesions appeared after cosmetic facial botulinum toxin injection in 13 cases and after other cosmetic facial procedures in five. The upper body of the BFP was the most frequently involved site (79/109), while other frequently involved sites were the lower body (67/109) and the masseteric (41/109), temporal (32/109), and pterygopalatine (30/109) extensions., (Copyright © 2023 International Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons. We report the first search for a nonstandard-model resonance decaying into τ pairs in e^{+}e^{-}→μ^{+}μ^{-}τ^{+}τ^{-} events in the 3.6-10  GeV/c^{2} mass range. We use a 62.8  fb^{-1} sample of e^{+}e^{-} collisions collected at a center-of-mass energy of 10.58 GeV by the Belle II experiment at the SuperKEKB collider. The analysis probes three different models predicting a spin-1 particle coupling only to the heavier lepton families, a Higgs-like spin-0 particle that couples preferentially to charged leptons (leptophilic scalar), and an axionlike particle, respectively. We observe no evidence for a signal and set exclusion limits at 90% confidence level on the product of cross section and branching fraction into τ pairs, ranging from 0.7 to 24 fb, and on the couplings of these processes. We obtain world-leading constraints on the couplings for the leptophilic scalar model for masses above 6.5  GeV/c^{2} and for the axionlike particle model over the entire mass range.

Fructus Psoraleae (FP), one of the important traditional Chinese medicines, is widely used in clinic and has been reported to be hepatotoxic. However, there is no report on the mechanism of FP-induced hepatotoxicity based on the theory of You Gu Wu Yun. In this study, plasma samples of rats with different kidney deficiency syndromes were investigated using a lipidomics approach based on UPLC/Q-TOF-MS technique. Firstly, multivariate statistical analysis, VIP value test, statistical test and other methods were used to find the lipid metabolites in the two syndrome model groups that were different from the normal group. The screening of differential lipid metabolites revealed that there were 12 biomarkers between the blank group and the kidney-yang deficiency model group as well as 16 differential metabolites between the kidney-yin deficiency model group, and finally a total of 17 relevant endogenous metabolites were identified, which could be used as differential lipid metabolites to distinguish between kidney-yin deficiency and kidney-yang deficiency evidence. Secondly, the relative content changes of metabolites in rats after administration of FP decoction were further compared to find the substances associated with toxicity after administration, and the diagnostic ability of the identified biomarkers was evaluated using a receiver operating characteristic curve (ROC). Results a total of 14 potential differential lipid metabolites, including LysoPC(20:0/0:0) and LysoPC(16:0/0:0), which may be related to hepatotoxicity in rats with kidney-yin deficiency syndrome were further screened, namely, the potential active lipid metabolites related to hepatotoxicity in rats induced by FP. Finally, cluster analysis, MetPA analysis and KEGG database were used to analyze metabolic pathways. It was discovered that the metabolism of glycerophospholipid and sphingolipid may be strongly related to the mechanism of hepatotoxicity brought on by FP. In the apicomplexans, endocytosed cargos (e.g., hemoglobin) are trafficked to a specialized organelle for digestion. This follows a unique endocytotic process at the micropore/cytostome in these parasites. However, the mechanism underlying endocytic trafficking remains elusive, due to the repurposing of classical endocytic proteins for the biogenesis of apical organelles. To resolve this issue, we have exploited the genetic tractability of the model apicomplexan Toxoplasma gondii , which ingests host cytosolic materials (e.g., green fluorescent protein[GFP]). We determined an association between protein prenylation and endocytic trafficking, and using an alkyne-labeled click chemistry approach, the prenylated proteome was characterized. Genome editing, using clustered regularly interspaced short palindromic repaet/CRISPR-associated nuclease 9 (CRISPR/Cas9), was efficiently utilized to generate genetically modified lines for the functional screening of 23 prenylated candidates. This identified four of these proteins that regulate the trafficking of endocytosed GFP vesicles. Among these proteins, Rab1B and YKT6.1 are highly conserved but are non-classical endocytic proteins in eukaryotes. Confocal imaging analysis showed that Rab1B and Ras are substantially localized to both the trans-Golgi network and the endosome-like compartments in the parasite. Conditional knockdown of Rab1B caused a rapid defect in secretory trafficking to the rhoptry bulb, suggesting a trafficking intersection role for the key regulator Rab1B. Further experiments confirmed a critical role for protein prenylation in regulating the stability/activity of these proteins (i.e., Rab1B and YKT6.1) in the parasite. Our findings define the molecular basis of endocytic trafficking and reveal a potential intersection function of Rab1B on membrane trafficking in T. gondii . This might extend to other related protists, including the malarial parasites. IMPORTANCE The protozoan Toxoplasma gondii establishes a permissive niche, in host cells, that allows parasites to acquire large molecules such as proteins. Numerous studies have demonstrated that the parasite repurposes the classical endocytic components for secretory sorting to the apical organelles, leaving the question of endocytic transport to the lysosome-like compartment unclear. Recent studies indicated that endocytic trafficking is likely to associate with protein prenylation in malarial parasites. This information promoted us to examine this association in the model apicomplexan T. gondii and to identify the key components of the prenylated proteome that are involved. By exploiting the genetic tractability of T. gondii and a host GFP acquisition assay, we reveal four non-classical endocytic proteins that regulate the transport of endocytosed cargos (e.g., GFP) in T. gondii . Membrane fouling induces catastrophic loss of separation performance and seriously restricts the applications of reverse osmosis (RO) membranes. Inspired by the mussel structure, polydopamine (PDA) and cystamine molecules (CA) with excellent anti-fouling properties were used to prepare accessible, biocompatible, and redox-responsive coatings for RO membranes. The PDA/CA-coated RO membranes exhibit a superior water flux of 65 L m -2 h -1 with a favourable NaCl rejection exceeding 99%. The water permeability through the PDA/CA-coated membrane is much higher than that of most membranes with similar rejection rates. Due to the formed protective hydration layers by PDA/CA coatings, anti-fouling properties against proteins, polysaccharides and surfactants were evaluated separately, and ultralow fouling properties were demonstrated. Moreover, the disulfide linkages in CA molecules can cleave in a reducing environment, yielding the degradation of PDA/CA coatings, thereby removing the foulants deposited on the coatings. The degradation endows the coated membranes with satisfying longtime anti-fouling properties, where the flux recovery reaches up to 90%. The construction of redox-responsive smart coatings not only provided a promising route to alleviate membrane fouling but can also be upscaled for use in numerous practical applications like sensors, medical devices, and drug delivery.

Herein, we report a copper(I)-catalyzed asymmetric 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition of azomethine ylides and 1,3-enynes, which provides a series of chiral poly-substituted pyrrolidines in high regio-, diastereo-, and enantioselectivities. Both 4-aryl-1,3-enynes and 4-silyl-1,3-enynes serve as suitable dipolarophiles while 4-alkyl-1,3-enynes are inert. Moreover, the method is successfully applied in the construction of both tetrasubstituted stereogenic carbon centers and chiral spiro pyrrolidines. The DFT calculations are also conducted, which imply a concerted mechanism rather than a stepwise mechanism. Finally, various transformations started from the pyrrolidine bearing a triethylsilylethynyl group and centered on the alkyne group are achieved, which compensates for the inertness of 4-alkyl-1,3-enynes in the present reaction., (© 2023. Malignant melanoma is an invasive and highly aggressive skin cancer that-if diagnosed-poses a serious threat to the patient's health and life. In this work, a novel purified cell-wall polysaccharide (termed Abwp) was obtained from the discarded stipe of Agaricus bisporus (A. bisporus) and characterized to be a novel homogeneous polysaccharide consisted of a β-(1 → 4)- glucosyl backbone with β-(1 → 2) and (1 → 6)-d-glucosyl side-chains. The anti-melanoma effects of Abwp and its associated mechanisms in mice were then explored using in vitro and in vivo approaches. In vitro results showed that Abwp inhibited B16 melanoma cell proliferation and promoted their apoptosis in both time- and dose-dependent manners. In B16 cells induced with tumor necrosis factor (TNF-α), Abwp significantly decreased the protein expression of inflammatory-related signaling pathway (e.g., p38 MAPK and NF-κB) in time-, concentration-, and dose-dependent manners. Moreover, Abwp blocked nuclear entry of NF-κB-p65. In an in vivo mouse model featuring neoplasm transplantation with B16 melanoma cells, Abwp significantly inhibited the growth and proliferation of mouse melanoma. Hematoxylin staining showed that the invasion of melanoma cells into the lung tissue of the Abwp-treated group was significantly reduced. Immunohistochemical analysis showed that the expression of proliferation cell nuclear antigen (PCNA), N-cadherin, MMP-9, and Snail in the lung of mouse was significantly inhibited. Immunofluorescence showed that Abwp significantly interfered with the nuclear transcription of NF-κB-p65 in a dose-dependent manner. Neuropathic pain(NP) has similar phenotypes but different sequential neuroinflammatory mechanisms in the pathological process. It is of great significance to inhibit the initiation of neuroinflammation, which has become a new direction of NP treatment and drug development in recent years. Mongolian drug Naru-3 is clinically effective in the treatment of trigeminal neuralgia, sciatica, and other NPs in a short time, but its pharmacodynamic characteristics and mechanism of analgesia are still unclear. In this study, a spinal nerve ligation(SNL) model simulating clinical peripheral nerve injury was established and the efficacy and mechanism of Naru-3 in the treatment of NPs was discussed by means of behavioral detection, side effect evaluation, network analysis, and experimental verification. Pharmacodynamic results showed that Naru-3 increased the basic pain sensitivity threshold(mechanical hyperalgesia and thermal radiation hyperalgesia) in the initiation of SNL in animals and relieved spontaneous pain, however, there was no significant effect on the basic pain sensitivity threshold and motor coordination function of normal animals under physiological and pathological conditions. Meanwhile, the results of primary screening of target tissues showed that Naru-3 inhibited the second phase of injury-induced nociceptive response of formalin test in mice and reduced the expression of inflammatory factors in the spinal cord. Network analysis discovered that Naru-3 had synergy in the treatment of NP, and its mechanism was associated with core targets such as matrix metalloproteinase-9(MMP9) and interleukin-1β(IL-1β). The experiment further took the dorsal root ganglion(DRG) and the stage of patho-logical spinal cord as the research objects, focusing on the core targets of inducing microglial neuroinflammation. By means of Western blot, immunofluorescence, agonists, antagonists, behavior, etc., the mechanism of Naru-3 in exerting NP analgesia may be related to the negative regulation of the MMP9/IL-1β signaling pathway-mediated microglia p38/IL-1β inflammatory loop in the activation phase. The relevant research enriches the biological connotation of Naru-3 in the treatment of NP and provides references for clinical rational drug use.

The integration and miniaturization of contemporary electronics have led to significant challenges in dealing with electromagnetic (EM) radiation and heat accumulation. Despite these issues, achieving high thermal conductivity (TC) and electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding effectiveness (SE) in polymer composite films remains an exceptionally difficult task. In this work, we used a straightforward in situ reduction process and a vacuum-drying method to successfully prepare a flexible Ag NPs/chitosan (CS)/PVA nanocomposite with three-dimensional (3D) conductive and thermally conductive network architectures. The 3D silver pathways formed by attaching to the chitosan fibers endow the material with simultaneous exceptional TC and EMI capabilities. At a silver concentration of 25 vol %, the TC of Ag NPs/CS/PVA nanocomposites reaches 5.18 W·m -1 ·K -1 , exhibiting an approximately 25 times increase compared to CS/PVA composites. The electromagnetic shielding performance of 78.5 dB significantly outperforms the specifications of standard commercial EMI shielding applications by a significant margin. Additionally, Ag NPs/CS/PVA nanocomposites have greatly benefited from microwave absorption (SE A ), effectively impeding the transmission of EM waves and reducing the reflected secondary EM wave pollution. Meanwhile, the composite material still maintains good mechanical properties and bendability. This endeavor helped develop malleable and durable composites that possess superior EMI shielding capabilities and intriguing heat dissipation properties using innovative design and fabrication methods.

Background: Vacuum sealing drainage (VSD) is widely applied in complex wound repair. We aimed to compare traditional debridement and drainage and VSD in treating Fournier's gangrene (FG)., Methods: Data of patients surgically treated for FG were retrospectively analyzed., Results: Of the 36 patients (men: 31, women: 5; mean age: 53.5 ± 11.3 [range: 28-74] years) included in the study, no patients died. Between-group differences regarding sex, age, BMI, time from first debridement to wound healing, number of debridements, FGSI, and shock were not statistically significant (P > 0.05). However, lesion diameter, colostomy, VAS score, dressing changes, analgesic use, length of hospital stay, and wound reconstruction method (χ 2  = 5.43, P = 0.04) exhibited statistically significant differences. Tension-relieving sutures (6 vs. 21) and flap transfer (4 vs. 2) were applied in Groups I and II, respectively., Conclusion: VSD can reduce postoperative dressing changes and analgesic use, and shrunk the wound area, thereby reducing flap transfer in wound reconstruction., (© 2023. In the area of manipulating the spatial electromagnetic (EM) waves fields, the metasurfaces have become much more attractive and powerful in recent years. Here, we propose a design to realize the simultaneous control of spatial fundamental and harmonic EM waves applying nonlinear metasurfaces in microwave band. The proposed meta-atom composed of three topological layers which are transmitting antenna, nonlinear wave guiding and receiving antenna respectively. And the critical factor of generating the harmonic is the nonlinear chip which is integrated into the middle layer. The microstrip power divider and phase shifter in each meta-atom are preciously tailored to actualize the spatial control of the fundamental and harmonic transmission beams in the far field. One prototype of the nonlinear metasurfaces is fabricated and corresponding radiation patterns of fundamental and harmonic modes are observed very well in the experience that can verify the validity of our proposed method.

Background: Patients with diabetes mellitus are at higher risk of myocardial ischemia/ reperfusion injury (MI/RI). Shuxin decoction (SXT) is a proven recipe modi-fication from the classic herbal formula "Wu-tou-chi-shi-zhi-wan" according to the traditional Chinese medicine theory. It has been successfully used to alleviate secondary MI/RI in patients with diabetes mellitus in the clinical setting. However, the underlying mechanism is still unclear., Aim: To further determine the mechanism of SXT in attenuating MI/RI associated with diabetes., Methods: This paper presents an ensemble model combining network pharmacology and biology. The Traditional Chinese Medicine System Pharmacology Database was accessed to select key components and potential targets of the SXT. In parallel, therapeutic targets associated with MI/RI in patients with diabetes were screened from various databases including Gene Expression Omnibus, DisGeNet, Genecards, Drugbank, OMIM, and PharmGKB. The potential targets of SXT and the therapeutic targets related to MI/RI in patients with diabetes were intersected and subjected to bioinformatics analysis using the Database for Annotation, Visualization and Integrated Discovery. The major results of bioinformatics analysis were subsequently validated by animal experiments., Results: According to the hypothesis derived from bioinformatics analysis, SXT could possibly ameliorate lipid metabolism disorders and exert anti-apoptotic effects in MI/RI associated with diabetes by reducing oxidized low density lipoprotein (LDL) and inhibiting the advanced glycation end products (AGE)-receptor for AGE (RAGE) signaling pathway. Subsequent animal experiments confirmed the hypothesis. The treatment with a dose of SXT (2.8 g/kg/d) resulted in a reduction in oxidized LDL, AGEs, and RAGE, and regulated the level of blood lipids. Besides, the expression of apoptosis-related proteins such as Bax and cleaved caspase 3 was down-regulated, whereas Bcl-2 expression was up-regulated. The findings indicated that SXT could inhibit myocardial apoptosis and improve cardiac function in MI/RI in diabetic rats., Conclusion: This study indicated the active components and underlying molecular therapeutic mechanisms of SXT in MI/RI with diabetes. Evidence suggests that neurometabolite alterations may be involved in the pathophysiology of autism spectrum disorders (ASDs). We performed a meta-analysis of proton magnetic resonance spectroscopy ( 1 H-MRS) studies to examine the neurometabolite levels in the brains of patients with ASD. A systematic search of PubMed and Web of Science identified 54 studies for the meta-analysis. A random-effects meta-analysis demonstrated that compared with the healthy controls, patients with ASD had lower N-acetyl-aspartate-containing compound (NAA) and choline-containing compound (Cho) levels and NAA/(creatine-containing compound) Cr ratios in the gray matter and lower NAA and glutamate + glutamine (Glx) levels in the white matter. Furthermore, NAA and gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) levels, NAA/Cr ratios, and GABA/Cr ratios were significantly decreased in the frontal cortex of patients with ASD, whereas glutamate (Glu) levels were increased in the prefrontal cortex. Additionally, low NAA levels and GABA/Cr ratios in the temporal cortex, low NAA levels and NAA/Cr ratios in the parietal and dorsolateral prefrontal cortices, and low NAA levels in the cerebellum and occipital cortex were observed in patients with ASD. Meta-regression analysis revealed that age was positively associated with effect size in studies analyzing the levels of gray matter NAA and white matter Glx. Taken together, these results provide strong clinical evidence that neurometabolite alterations in specific brain regions are associated with ASD and age is a confounding factor for certain neurometabolite levels in patients with ASD., (© 2023. Objective: To investigate the clinical efficacy of bilateral gluteal muscle contracture treated with inside-out iliotibial band release under arthroscopy in the supine position. Methods: A prospective non-randomized controlled trial. Forty-six patients admitted to the Department of Sports Medicine, Senior Department of Orthopedics, the Fourth Medical Center of PLA General Hospital from April 2021 to August 2022 for bilateral gluteal muscle contracture and proposed surgical treatment were enrolled. The subjects were divided into two groups according to the preferred surgical protocols of the patients: the supine position group was treated with inside-out iliotibial band release under arthroscopy in the supine position, and the operation in lateral position group was carried out with outside-in iliotibial band release under arthroscopy in the lateral position. The total duration of non-surgical operations and the total duration of surgical operations were recorded for all patients. The gluteal muscle contracture disability scale within 3 days before surgery and at least 2 months after surgery were compared between the two groups, and the occurrence of complications between the two groups was compared too. Results: There were 26 cases in the supine position group, 11 males and 15 females with a mean age of (31.8±7.3) years; and there were 20 cases in the lateral position group, 7 males and 13 females with a mean age of (30.6±6.3) years. The differences in gender, age, body mass index (BMI) and postoperative follow-up time between the two groups were not statistically significant (all P >0.05). The total duration of non-surgical operations was shorter in the supine position group than in the lateral position group [(47.9±10.4) min vs (63.9±7.5) min, P <0.001]. There was no statistically significant difference in the total duration of surgical operations between the supine position group and the lateral position group [31.0(27.0, 43.5) min vs 33.0(24.8, 38.0) min, P >0.05]. The postoperative gluteal muscle contracture disability scales were significantly improved in both the supine position and lateral position groups when compared with those before the operation [93.0 (85.0, 98.0) vs 61.0 (50.5, 66.8), P <0.001 and 88.5±6.9 vs 63.6±9.6, P <0.001, respectively]. There was no statistically significant difference in the gluteal muscle contracture disability scale between the supine position and lateral position groups before and 2 months after surgery [59.3±11.9 vs 63.6±9.6 and 93.0 (85.0, 98.0) vs 89.5(84.0, 94.8), both P >0.05, respectively]. Two patients in each group developed subcutaneous hematoma after surgery, and all of them resolved within 2 weeks after surgery, the difference in complication incidence rate was not statistically significant ( P >0.05). No postoperative complications such as fat liquefaction in the operated area, infection, decreased hip abductor muscle strength or nerve injury in the lower extremity were observed in both groups. Conclusion: The treatment of bilateral gluteal muscle contracture by inside-out iliotibial band release under arthroscopy in the supine position can effectively improve clinical efficiency, with definite efficacy, and it is an operative program worth promoting.

Magnesium phosphate (MgP) has garnered growing interest in hard tissue replacement processes due to having similar biological characteristics to calcium phosphate (CaP). In this study, an MgP coating with the newberyite (MgHPO 4 ·3H 2 O) was prepared on the surface of pure titanium (Ti) using the phosphate chemical conversion (PCC) method. The influence of reaction temperature on the phase composition, microstructure, and properties of coatings was systematically researched with the use of an X-ray diffractometer (XRD), a scanning electron microscope (SEM), a laser scanning confocal microscope (LSCM), a contact angle goniometer, and a tensile testing machine. The formation mechanism of MgP coating on Ti was also explored. In addition, the corrosion resistance of the coatings on Ti was researched by assessing the electrochemical behavior in 0.9% NaCl solution using an electrochemical workstation. The results showed that temperature did not obviously affect the phase composition of the MgP coatings, but affected the growth and nucleation of newberyite crystals. In addition, an increase in reaction temperature had a great impact on properties including surface roughness, thickness, bonding strength, and corrosion resistance. Higher reaction temperatures resulted in more continuous MgP, larger grain size, higher density, and better corrosion resistance.

Background: Remnant cholesterol (RC) has been suggested to be implicated in atherosclerosis. The objective of the study was to evaluate the association between RC and first-ever stroke in the Chinese general population and to investigate whether the association is mediated via hypertension or diabetes., Methods: This study is a retrospective cohort analysis of participants from the China Health and Nutrition Survey. Participants without previous stroke and myocardial infarction in 2009 were enrolled and followed up in 2011 and 2015. Logistic regression analyses were adopted to explore the association of RC with stroke risk. Propensity score methods and doubly robust estimation method were used to ensure the robustness of our findings. Potential mediators were identified by mediation analyses., Results: A total of 7,035 participants were involved, and during 6 years of follow-up, 78 (1.1%) participants experienced a first-ever stroke. Participants with high RC had a significantly higher incidence of stroke (1.4% versus 0.8%; p = 0.007). High RC was associated with 74% higher stroke risk after adjusting for multiple relevant variables (odds ratio [OR], 1.74; 95% CI, 1.06-2.85). The association was consistent in analyses using propensity score methods and doubly robust estimation method. Hypertension showed a significant mediating effect on the association between RC and stroke, while the mediating effect of diabetes was not significant., Conclusion: High RC increased the risk of first-ever stroke in the Chinese general population without previous stroke and myocardial infarction, partially through the pathway of hypertension. We search for lepton-flavor-violating τ^{-}→e^{-}α and τ^{-}→μ^{-}α decays, where α is an invisible spin-0 boson. The search uses electron-positron collisions at 10.58 GeV center-of-mass energy with an integrated luminosity of 62.8  fb^{-1}, produced by the SuperKEKB collider and collected with the Belle II detector. We search for an excess in the lepton-energy spectrum of the known τ^{-}→e^{-}ν[over ¯]&#95;{e}ν&#95;{τ} and τ^{-}→μ^{-}ν[over ¯]&#95;{μ}ν&#95;{τ} decays. We report 95% confidence-level upper limits on the branching-fraction ratio B(τ^{-}→e^{-}α)/B(τ^{-}→e^{-}ν[over ¯]&#95;{e}ν&#95;{τ}) in the range (1.1-9.7)×10^{-3} and on B(τ^{-}→μ^{-}α)/B(τ^{-}→μ^{-}ν[over ¯]&#95;{μ}ν&#95;{τ}) in the range (0.7-12.2)×10^{-3} for α masses between 0 and 1.6  GeV/c^{2}. These results provide the most stringent bounds on invisible boson production from τ decays.

We study B^{+}→π^{+}π^{0}π^{0} using 711  fb^{-1} of data collected at the ϒ(4S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e^{+}e^{-} collider. We measure an inclusive branching fraction of (19.0±1.5±1.4)×10^{-6} and an inclusive CP asymmetry of (9.2±6.8±0.7)%, where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second are systematic, and a B^{+}→ρ(770)^{+}π^{0} branching fraction of (11.2±1.1±0.9&#95;{-1.6}^{+0.8})×10^{-6}, where the third uncertainty is due to possible interference with B^{+}→ρ(1450)^{+}π^{0}. We present the first observation of a structure around 1  GeV/c^{2} in the π^{0}π^{0} mass spectrum, with a significance of 6.4σ, and measure a branching fraction to be (6.9±0.9±0.6)×10^{-6}. We also report a measurement of local CP asymmetry in this structure.

Purpose: The purpose of this study is to evaluate clinical outcomes of autoimmune retinopathy (AIR) in the patients treated with intravitreal dexamethasone implant (IDI)., Method: Twenty-one eyes of 11 AIR patients treated with at least 1 injection of IDI were retrospectively reviewed. Clinical outcomes before and after treatment, including best corrected visual acuity (BCVA), optic coherence tomography (OCT), fundus autofluorescence (FAF), full-field electroretinography (ff-ERG), and visual field (VF) at last visit within 6 and/or 12 months, were recorded., Results: Among all the patients, 3 had cancer-associated retinopathy (CAR) and 8 had non-paraneoplastic-AIR (npAIR) with mean followed up of 8.52 ± 3.03 months (range 4-12 months). All patients achieved improved or stable BCVA within 6 and/or 12 months after the treatment. Cystoid macular edema (CME) in 2 eyes and significant retinal inflammation in 4 eyes were markedly resolved after single injection. Central retinal thickness (CFT) in all eyes without CME, ellipsoid zone (EZ) on OCT in 71.4% of eyes, ERG response in 55% of eyes, and VF in 50% of eyes were stable or improved within 6 months after treatment. At last visit within 12 months, both BCVA and CFT remained stable in the eyes treated with either single or repeated IDI; however, progression of EZ loss and damage of ERG response occurred in some patients with single IDI., Conclusion: Clinical outcomes, including BCVA and parameters of OCT, ERG, and VF, were stable or improved after IDI in a majority of AIR patients. Local treatment of AIR with IDI was a good option to initiate the management or an alternative for the patients' refractory to the systemic therapy but with limited side effect., (© 2022. Covalent organic frameworks (COFs), with ordered pores and well-defined topology, are ideal materials for nanofiltration (NF) membranes because of their capacity of transcending the permeance/selectivity trade-off predicament. However, most reported COF-based membranes are focused on separating molecules with different sizes, resulting in low selectivity to similar molecules with different charges. Here, the negatively charged COF layer was fabricated in situ on a microporous support for the separation of molecules with different sizes and charges. Ultrahigh water permeance (216.56 L m -2 h -1 bar -1 ) was obtained because of the ordered pores and excellent hydrophilicity, which exceeds that of most membranes with similar rejections. For the first time, we used multifarious dyes with different sizes and charges, for the investigation of the selectivity behavior caused by the Donnan effect and size exclusion. The obtained membranes represent superior rejections to negatively and neutrally charged dyes larger than 1.3 nm, while positively charged dyes with a size of 1.6 nm can pass through the membrane, resulting in the separation of negative/positive mixed dyes with similar molecular sizes. This strategy of combining the Donnan effect and size exclusion in nanoporous materials may evolve into a generic platform for sophisticated separation.

Parkinson's disease is a health-threatening neurodegenerative disease of the elderly with clinical manifestations of motor and non-motor deficits such as tremor palsy and loss of smell. Alpha-synuclein (α-Syn) is the pathological basis of PD, it can abnormally aggregate into insoluble forms such as oligomers, fibrils, and plaques, causing degeneration of nigrostriatal dopaminergic neurons in the substantia nigra in the patient's brain and the formation of Lewy bodies (LBs) and Lewy neuritis (LN) inclusions. As a result, achieving α-Syn aggregate detection in the early stages of PD can effectively stop or delay the progression of the disease. Polyamines (PAs), one of plant growth regulators, play an important role in the plant resistance to drought stress. However, the precise function of putrescine (Put) transformation to other forms of PAs is not clear in filling maize grain embryos. In this study, two maize (Zea mays L.) cultivars, Yedan No. 13 (drought-resistant) and Xundan No. 22 (drought-sensitive), were used as experimental materials. Maize was planted in big plastic basins during whole growth period, and from the 25th day after fertilization, the plants were treated with drought (-1.0 MPa), PAs and inhibitors for 12 d. The experiments were performed during three consecutive years. The changes in the levels of three main free PAs, Put, spermidine (Spd) and spermine (Spm), covalently conjugated PAs (perchloric acid-soluble), covalently bound PAs (perchloric acid-insoluble), the activities of arginine decarboxylase, S-adenosylmethionine decarboxylase, and transglutaminase were investigated in embryos of filling grains. During drought stress, free Put increased from 109 to 367 nmol g -1 FW and from 107 to 142 nmol g -1 FW in Xundan 22 and in Yedan 13, respectively. Meanwhile, free Spd, free Spm and bound Put increased 2.7, 3.0 and 4.2 times in Yedan 13, respectively, and they merely increased about 1.5 times in Xundan 22. These results suggested that free Spd/Spm and bound Put, which were transformed from free Put, were possibly involved in drought resistance. Exogenous Spd treatment enhanced the drought-induced increase in endogenous free Spd/Spm content in drought-sensitive Xundan 22, coupled with the increase in drought resistance, as judged by the decrease in ear leaf relative plasma membrane permeability and increases in ear leaf relative water content, 1000-grain weight and grain number per ear. The suggestion was further testified with methylglyoxal-bis guanylhydrazone and o-phenanthrolin treatments. Zinc (Zn) alloys provide a new generation for orthopedic applications due to their essential physiological effects and promising degradation properties. However, excessive release of Zn ions (Zn 2+ ) during degradation and the severe inflammatory microenvironment are not conducive to osseointegration, which is determined by the characteristics of the implant surface. Therefore, it is essential to modulate the release rate of Zn alloys by surface modification technology and endow them with anti-inflammatory and osteogenic effects. In this study, two kinds of phosphate chemical conversion (PCC) coatings with different compositions and morphological structures are prepared, namely Zn-P (with disk-like crystals) and Ca-Zn-P (with lamellar crystals). Although all the PCC-coated Zn implants have low cytotoxicity, Ca-Zn-P show better osteoimmunomodulation effects in several aspects: the induction of the M2-phenotype macrophage polarization and thus promotion of osteogenesis in vitro; the regulation of the bone immune microenvironment which is conducive to tissue regeneration and osseointegration in vivo; and the release of ions (through PI3K/AKT and Wnt signaling pathways) and the morphological structures (through RhoGTPase signaling pathways) act as possible mechanisms of M2 polarization. Rationale: Gastric hamartomatous inverted polyps (GHIP) is not a common disease, and it has rarely been reported in the literature. Preoperative diagnosis is difficult due to the deep position and surface covered with normal gastric mucosa. However, with the progress of endoscopic technology, endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) can play a crucial role in the diagnosis and treatment of GHIP., Patient Concerns: A 61-year-old Chinese man underwent gastroscopy due to abdominal pain 2 months prior that revealed chronic superficial nonatrophic gastritis with erosion and a submucosal tumor in the gastric body (an ultrasound gastroscopy was recommended). Therefore, he was admitted to our hospital for further diagnosis and treatment., Diagnoses: A hemispherical submucosal tumor was found in the middle segment of the stomach, with a size of approximately 30 mm × 35 mm and a smooth surface without central ulceration or mucosal bridge formation. Ultrasound gastroscopy showed that the lesion was a hypoechoic mass with uniform internal echo originating from the muscularis propria., Interventions: The tumor was completely removed by using ESD. The postoperative pathological results indicated a monocystic structure in the submucosa that was not connected with the surface mucosa. The surface of the cyst was covered with foveolar cells and mucous-neck cells (part of which had low-grade intraepithelial neoplasia), and GHIP was considered to be diagnosed., Outcomes: According to the abovementioned endoscopic and pathological features, the patient was finally diagnosed with GHIP. The patient was successfully discharged after surgery and received regular follow-up observations., Lessons: GHIP is located in the submucosa layer and has the potential risk of malignant transformation. However, it is not easy to diagnose by using gastroscopy and ultrasound gastroscopy. Bleached bamboo pulp, as a kind of natural cellulose, has received significant attention in the field of biomass materials due to its advantages of environmental protection and the abundance of raw materials. Low-temperature alkali/urea aqueous system is a green dissolution technology for cellulose, which has promising application prospects in the field of regenerated cellulose materials. However, bleached bamboo pulp, with high viscosity average molecular weight ( M η) and high crystallinity, is difficult to dissolve in an alkaline urea solvent system, restraining its practical application in the textile field. Herein, based on commercial bleached bamboo pulp with high M η, a series of dissolvable bamboo pulps with suitable M η was prepared using a method of adjusting the ratio of sodium hydroxide and hydrogen peroxide in the pulping process. Due to the hydroxyl radicals being able to react with hydroxyls of cellulose, molecular chains are cut down. Moreover, several regenerated cellulose hydrogels and films were fabricated in an ethanol coagulation bath or a citric acid coagulation bath, and the relationship between the properties of the regenerated materials and the M η of the bamboo cellulose was systematically studied. The results showed that hydrogel/film had good mechanical properties, as the M η is 8.3 × 10 4 and the tensile strength of a regenerated film and the film have values up to 101 MPa and 3.19 MPa, respectively. In this contribution, a simple method of a one-step oxidation of hydroxyl radicals to prepare bamboo cellulose with diversified M η is presented, providing an avenue for a preparation of dissolving pulp with different M η in an alkali/urea dissolution system and expanding the practical applications of bamboo pulp in biomass-based materials, textiles, and biomedical materials.

Objective: To analysis the application value of image fusion technology in transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI). Methods: A total of 35 patients underwent trans-femoral TAVI using the first-generation VENUS-A valve in Heart Center of Henan Provincial People's Hospital from January 2020 to May 2021 were analyzed retrospectively. Among them, there were 21 males and 14 females, aged from 64 to 81 years, with a mean (SD) of (71.37±5.66) years. They were divided into conventional group ( n =22) and fusion group ( n =13), according to whether image fusion technology was used during operation. The preoperative general data, intraoperative data, differences of postoperative renal function and residence time in intensive care unit (ICU) were analyzed and compared between the two groups. The postoperative echocardiography and 12 lead ECG were observed. Results: All 35 patients in this study were with severe aortic stenosis, of which, 10 patients were complicated with moderate to severe regurgitation. Compared with the conventional group, the intraoperative fusion group had fewer angiography times [3.0 (3.0, 4.0) vs 5.0 (5.0, 6.0)], X-ray absorbed dose [342.0 (44.5) mGy vs 388.4 (71.0) mGy], and contrast dosage [(73.5±10.5) ml vs (90.3±10.3) ml], and shorter rapid pacing time [(14.0±1.6) seconds vs (16.5±2.0) seconds] (all P <0.05). There was no significant differences in X-ray irradiation time, operation time, sizing of the pre-dilated balloon, valve implantation depth and other indicators (all P> 0.05). There was no significant differences in ICU retention time and postoperative renal function (all P >0.05). Postoperative echocardiography showed that the function of aortic valve was good, with mild perivalvular leakage in 2 cases in the conventional group and 1 case in the fusion group; and one patient was implanted with permanent pacemaker after TAVI in the conventional group. Conclusion: Image fusion technology simplifies the TAVI process, shortens the ventricular pacing time and reduces the dosage of X-ray and contrast, and has certain clinical application value.

The dark photon A^{'} and the dark Higgs boson h^{'} are hypothetical particles predicted in many dark sector models. We search for the simultaneous production of A^{'} and h^{'} in the dark Higgsstrahlung process e^{+}e^{-}→A^{'}h^{'} with A^{'}→μ^{+}μ^{-} and h^{'} invisible in electron-positron collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 10.58 GeV in data collected by the Belle II experiment in 2019. With an integrated luminosity of 8.34  fb^{-1}, we observe no evidence for signal. We obtain exclusion limits at 90% Bayesian credibility in the range of 1.7-5.0 fb on the cross section and in the range of 1.7×10^{-8}-200×10^{-8} on the effective coupling ϵ^{2}×α&#95;{D} for the A^{'} mass in the range of 4.0  GeV/c^{2}

An absolute measurement of the Λ&#95;{c}^{+} lifetime is reported using Λ&#95;{c}^{+}→pK^{-}π^{+} decays in events reconstructed from data collected by the Belle II experiment at the SuperKEKB asymmetric-energy electron-positron collider. The total integrated luminosity of the data sample, which was collected at center-of-mass energies at or near the ϒ(4S) resonance, is 207.2  fb^{-1}. The result, τ(Λ&#95;{c}^{+})=203.20±0.89±0.77  fs, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second systematic, is the most precise measurement to date and is consistent with previous determinations.

As an emerging sequencing technology, single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-Seq) has become a powerful tool for describing cell subpopulation classification and cell heterogeneity by achieving high-throughput and multidimensional analysis of individual cells and circumventing the shortcomings of traditional sequencing for detecting the average transcript level of cell populations. It has been applied to life science and medicine research fields such as tracking dynamic cell differentiation, revealing sensitive effector cells, and key molecular events of diseases. This review focuses on the recent technological innovations in scRNA-Seq, highlighting the latest research results with scRNA-Seq as the core technology in frontier research areas such as embryology, histology, oncology, and immunology. In addition, this review outlines the prospects for its innovative application in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) research and discusses the key issues currently being addressed by scRNA-Seq and its great potential for exploring disease diagnostic targets and uncovering drug therapeutic targets in combination with multiomics technologies.

Bone fracture remains a common occurrence, with a population-weighted incidence of approximately 3.21 per 1000. In addition, approximately 2% to 50% of patients with skeletal fractures will develop an infection, one of the causes of disordered bone healing. Dysfunction of bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (BMSCs) plays a key role in disordered bone repair. However, the specific mechanisms underlying BMSC dysfunction caused by bone infection are largely unknown. In this study, we discovered that Fibulin2 expression was upregulated in infected bone tissues and that BMSCs were the source of infection-induced Fibulin2. Importantly, Fibulin2 knockout accelerated mineralized bone formation during skeletal development and inhibited inflammatory bone resorption. We demonstrated that Fibulin2 suppressed BMSC osteogenic differentiation by binding to Notch2 and inactivating the Notch2 signaling pathway. Moreover, Fibulin2 knockdown restored Notch2 pathway activation and promoted BMSC osteogenesis; these outcomes were abolished by DAPT, a Notch inhibitor. Furthermore, transplanted Fibulin2 knockdown BMSCs displayed better bone repair potential in vivo. Objective: This study aimed to describe, optimize and evaluate a method for preparing multivalent conjugate vaccines by simultaneous conjugation of two different bacterial capsular polysaccharides (CPs) with tetanus toxoid (TT) as bivalent conjugates., Methods: Different molecular weights (MWs) of polysaccharides, activating agents and capsular polysaccharide/protein (CP/Pro) ratio that may influence conjugation and immunogenicity were investigated and optimized to prepare the bivalent conjugate bulk. Using the described method and optimized parameters, a 20-valent pneumococcal conjugate vaccine and a bivalent meningococcal vaccine were developed and their effectiveness was compared to that of corresponding licensed vaccines in rabbit or mouse models., Results: The immunogenicity test revealed that polysaccharides with lower MWs were better for Pn1-TT-Pn3 and MenA-TT-MenC, while higher MWs were superior for Pn4-TT-Pn14, Pn6A-TT-Pn6B, Pn7F-TT-Pn23F and Pn8-TT-Pn11A. For activating polysaccharides, 1-cyano-4-dimethylaminopyridinium tetrafluoroborate (CDAP) was superior to cyanogen bromide (CNBr), but for Pn1, Pn3 and MenC, N-(3-dimethylaminopropyl)-N'-ethylcarbodiimide hydrochloride (EDAC) was the most suitable option. For Pn6A-TT-Pn6B and Pn8-TT-Pn11A, rabbits immunized with bivalent conjugates with lower CP/Pro ratios showed significantly stronger CP-specific antibody responses, while for Pn4-TT-Pn14, higher CP/Pro ratio was better. Instead of interfering with the respective immunological activity, our bivalent conjugates usually induced higher IgG titers than their monovalent counterparts., Conclusion: The result indicated that the described conjugation technique was feasible and efficacious to prepare glycoconjugate vaccines, laying a solid foundation for developing extended-valent multivalent or combined conjugate vaccines without potentially decreased immune function., (© 2023. Temporomandibular joint osteoarthrosis (TMJ-OA) frequently causes mild, moderate, or severe condylar morphological changes. A novel condylar remodelling scoring system (CRSS) based on three-dimensional cone beam computed tomography images is proposed, which is used to grade condylar morphological changes. In the CRSS, the condyle is divided into 10 regions by 11 reference points. For each increase in the number of regions involved in TMJ-OA, one point is subtracted from the full score of 10. The intra-class correlation coefficients for intra- and inter-observer agreement (range 0.656-0.898 and 0.841-0.906, respectively) indicated that the CRSS had good reliability. Cephalometric analysis showed that the condyles with severe morphological changes were prone to present with a retrognathic and clockwise rotating mandible, shorter ramus height, reduced mandibular length, larger mandibular angle, and maxillary retrusion. Qualitative CRSS evaluation and quantitative volumetric analysis were performed to evaluate the stability of severe TMJ-OA in its natural course (343 condyles). The continuous cortex group showed no remarkable changes with an average follow-up of 2 years. Ethylene glycol and ferric chloride pretreatment assisted by low-pressure carbon dioxide (1 MPa CO 2 ) realized the targeted deconstruction of lignocelluloses at 170 °C for 5 min, achieving 98 % cellulose recovery with removal of 92 % lignin and 90 % hemicellulose. After the pretreatment, the formation of stable platform mono-phenol components would be with the destruction of the lignin-carbohydrate complexes structure, and the surface of rice straw became rough, with a less negative charge and higher specific surface area, while the enzyme adsorption rate increased by 8.1 times. Furthermore, the glucose yield of pretreated straw was remarkably increased by 5.6 times that of the untreated straw, reaching 91 % after hydrolyzed for 48 h. We present the study of B[over ¯]^{0}→Σ&#95;{c}(2455)^{0,++}π^{±}p[over ¯] decays based on 772×10^{6}  BB[over ¯] events collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e^{+}e^{-} collider. The Σ&#95;{c}(2455)^{0,++} candidates are reconstructed via their decay to Λ&#95;{c}^{+}π^{∓} and Λ&#95;{c}^{+} decays to pK^{-}π^{+}, pK&#95;{S}^{0}, and Λπ^{+} final states. The corresponding branching fractions are measured to be B(B[over ¯]^{0}→Σ&#95;{c}(2455)^{0}π^{+}p[over ¯])=(1.09±0.06±0.07)×10^{-4} and B(B[over ¯]^{0}→Σ&#95;{c}(2455)^{++}π^{-}p[over ¯])=(1.84±0.11±0.12)×10^{-4}, which are consistent with the world average values with improved precision. A new structure is found in the M&#95;{Σ&#95;{c}(2455)^{0,++}π^{±}} spectrum with a significance of 4.2σ including systematic uncertainty. The structure is possibly an excited Λ&#95;{c}^{+} and is tentatively named Λ&#95;{c}(2910)^{+}. Its mass and width are measured to be (2913.8±5.6±3.8)  MeV/c^{2} and (51.8±20.0±18.8)  MeV, respectively. The products of branching fractions for the Λ&#95;{c}(2910)^{+} are measured to be B(B[over ¯]^{0}→Λ&#95;{c}(2910)^{+}p[over ¯])×B(Λ&#95;{c}(2910)^{+}→Σ&#95;{c}(2455)^{0}π^{+})=(9.5±3.6±1.6)×10^{-6} and B(B[over ¯]^{0}→Λ&#95;{c}(2910)^{+}p[over ¯])×B(Λ&#95;{c}(2910)^{+}→Σ&#95;{c}(2455)^{++}π^{-})=(1.24±0.35±0.10)×10^{-5}. Here, the first and second uncertainties are statistical and systematic, respectively.

Early acne scar intervention is important. Oral isotretinoin is widely used in patients with moderate to severe acne. Picosecond laser has shown a promising effect on scar clearance. However, there is a lack of reports on the efficacy and safety of early acne scar management by using 1064-nm picosecond laser in patients receiving low-dose oral isotretinoin. Twenty-four patients with atrophic acne scars of Fitzpatrick skin type III to V were enrolled. All patients were receiving low-dose oral isotretinoin (0.12-0.22 mg/kg/day) during the treatment. The face of the participants was randomly assigned to receive 2 sessions of fractional picosecond 1064 nm Nd: YAG laser (FxPico) treatment and 2 follow-ups, with an interval of 1 month (month 0-3). Clinical efficacy and safety were assessed by photographs, ECCA grading scale, the number of scar lesions melanin and erythema indexes (MI and EI), TEWL, DLQI, and patient satisfaction and the adverse events were recorded on every visit. FxPico significantly decreased the ECCA score and showed higher improvement in the ECCA score. FxPico treated side achieved a significant reduction in all acne scar types, while only boxcar scars and rolling scars showed higher improvement. TEWL but not MI or EI were significantly improved. DLQI and patient satisfaction were higher with the FxPico-treated side than control side. No adverse effects were observed and all the side effects observed were temporary and tolerable. Background: This study aimed to explore the feasibility and safety of single-incision plus one-port laparoscopic total gastrectomy (SITG + 1) with Overlap esophagojejunostomy (SITG + 1-Overlap) and to share preliminary experiences., Methods: This retrospective study included 10 patients with gastric cancer located in the cardia or body who underwent SITG + 1-Overlap between August 2020 and October 2021.The demographics, tumor characteristics, postoperative outcomes, and short-term complications of all the enrolled patients were summarized and statistically analyzed. Data were expressed as mean ± standard deviation (SD) if they were normally distributed. Otherwise, Median (Quartile1, Quartile3) was used., Results: In the collective perioperative data of these 10 patients who underwent radical gastrectomy, the median of the length of transumbilical incision and blood loss were 3.0 cm and 100.0 ml respectively, and the mean operation time and 385.5 ± 51.6 min. Postoperative data indicated that the gastric tube was removed on 2.0 (2.0, 3.0) days, and the timing of first feeding, activity, flatus, and defecation was 1.5 (1.0, 2.0) days, 2.0 (2.0, 2.0) days, 3.0 (2.0, 3.0) days, and 3.8 ± 0.6 days, respectively. The timing of drainage tube removal was 4.6 ± 1.0 days after operation. The duration of hospital stay was 7.5 ± 1.2 days and the VAS pain scores for the 3 days following surgery were 3.0 (2.0, 3.3), 2.0 (2.0, 3.0), and 1.5 (1.0, 2.0) respectively. The mean number of retrieved lymph nodes was 30.7 ± 13.2. Most biochemical indicators gradually normalized with the recovery of the patients after surgery. No 30-day postoperative complications were noted., Conclusions: For the first time, our preliminary data indicate the feasibility and safety of Overlap esophagojejunostomy in SITG + 1 surgery. This study aimed to investigate the effect of dexamethasone (DEX) on chemotaxis and phagocytic activity of neutrophils for spermatozoa and semen quality of preserved boar semen. The different concentrations of dexamethasone were added to boar semen dilutions to detect its effects on the chemotaxis of neutrophils and phagocytosis of neutrophils and sperm motility sperm malformation rate, plasma membrane integrity, mitochondrial activity, and spermatozoa motility parameters. The study results showed that the experimental groups of DEX significantly inhibited the phagocytosis and chemotaxis of PMNs for spermatozoa. With the increased concentration of DEX, there was an inhibition effect on PMNs activity. In addition, under 17 °C storage conditions, the addition of DEX 1 × 10 -6  mol/mL concentration has the best preservation effect on boar semen, which can effectively improve the sperm motility, movement parameters, plasma membrane integrity, mitochondrial activity, T-AOC activity, and significantly reduce the sperm malformation rate and H 2 O 2 content. Therefore, the most suitable concentration of DEX to preserve boar semen at 17 °C is 1 × 10 -6  mol/mL. The significant increase of conception rate of sows and litter size of piglets proved that DEX has practical application value. Introduction: Ginkgo biloba L. leaf extract (GBLE) has been reported to be effective for alleviating cognitive and memory impairment in Alzheimer's disease (AD). Nevertheless, the potential mechanism remains unclear. Herein, this study aimed to explore the neuroprotective effects of GBLE on AD and elaborate the underlying therapeutic mechanism. Methods: Donepezil, the most widely prescribed drug for AD, was used as a positive control. An integrated metabolomics and lipidomics approach was adopted to characterize plasma metabolic phenotype of APP/PS1 double transgenic mice and describe the metabolomic and lipidomic fingerprint changes after GBLE intervention. The Morris water maze test and immunohistochemistry were applied to evaluate the efficacy of GBLE. Results: As a result, administration of GBLE significantly improved the cognitive function and alleviated amyloid beta (Aβ) deposition in APP/PS1 mice, showing similar effects to donepezil. Significant alterations were observed in metabolic signatures of APP/PS1 mice compared with wild type (WT) mice by metabolomic analysis. A total of 60 markedly altered differential metabolites were identified, including 28 lipid and lipid-like molecules, 13 organic acids and derivatives, 11 organic nitrogen compounds, and 8 other compounds, indicative of significant changes in lipid metabolism of AD. Further lipidomic profiling showed that the differential expressed lipid metabolites between APP/PS1 and WT mice mainly consisted of phosphatidylcholines, lysophosphatidylcholines, triglycerides, and ceramides. Taking together all the data, the plasma metabolic signature of APP/PS1 mice was primarily characterized by disrupted sphingolipid metabolism, glycerophospholipid metabolism, glycerolipid metabolism, and amino acid metabolism. Most of the disordered metabolites were ameliorated after GBLE treatment, 19 metabolites and 24 lipids of which were significantly reversely regulated (adjusted- p <0.05), which were considered as potential therapeutic targets of GBLE on AD. The response of APP/PS1 mice to GBLE was similar to that of donepezil, which significantly reversed the levels of 23 disturbed metabolites and 30 lipids. Discussion: Our data suggested that lipid metabolism was dramatically perturbed in the plasma of APP/PS1 mice, and GBLE might exert its neuroprotective effects by restoring lipid metabolic balance. Water is an indispensable strategic resource for biological and social development. The problem of oily wastewater pollution originating from oil spillages, industrial discharge and domestic oil pollution has become an extremely serious international challenge. At present, numerous superwetting materials have been applied to effectively separate oil and water. However, most of these materials are difficult to scale and their large-scale application is limited by cost and environmental protection. Herein, a simple, environmentally friendly strategy including sol-gel, freeze-drying and surface hydrophobic modification is presented to fabricate a bamboo cellulose foam with special wetting characteristics. The bamboo cellulose foam is superhydrophobic, with a water contact angle of 160°, and it has the superoleophilic property of instantaneous oil absorption. Owing to the synergistic effect of the three-dimensional network structure of the superhydrophobic bamboo cellulose foam and its hydrophobic composition, it has an excellent oil-absorption performance of 11.5 g/g~37.5 g/g for various types of oil, as well as good recyclability, with an oil (1,2-dichloroethane) absorption capacity of up to 31.5 g/g after 10 cycles. In addition, the prepared cellulose-based foam exhibits an outstanding performance in terms of acid and alkali corrosion resistance. Importantly, owing to bamboo cellulose being a biodegradable, low-cost, natural polymer material that can be easily modified, superhydrophobic/superoleophilic bamboo cellulose foam has great application potential in the field of oily wastewater treatment.

Molecular-based ferroic phase-transition materials have attracted increasing attention in the past decades due to their promising potential as sensors, switches, and memory. One of the long-term challenges in the development of molecular-based ferroic materials is determining how to promote the ferroic phase-transition temperature ( T c ). Herein, we present two new hexagonal molecular perovskites, (nortropinonium)[CdCl 3 ] (1) and (nortropinium)[CdCl 3 ] (2), to demonstrate a simple design principle for obtaining ultrahigh- T c ferroelastic phase transitions. They consist of same host inorganic chains but subtly different guest organic cations featuring a rigid carbonyl and a flexible hydroxyl group in 1 and 2, respectively. With stronger hydrogen bonds involving the carbonyl but a relatively lower decomposition temperature ( T d , 480 K), 1 does not exhibit a crystalline phase transition before its decomposition. The hydroxyl group subtly changes the balance of intermolecular interactions in 2 via reducing the attractive hydrogen bonds but increasing the repulsive interactions between adjacent organic cations, which finally endows 2 with an enhanced thermal stability ( T d = 570 K) and three structural phase transitions, including two ferroelastic phase transitions at ultrahigh T c values of 463 K and 495 K, respectively. Background/purpose: Streptococcus pneumoniae is an important human pathogen that causes invasive infections in adults and children. Accurate serotyping is important to study its epidemiological distribution and to assess vaccine efficacy., Methods: Invasive S. pneumoniae isolates (n = 300) from 27 teaching hospitals in China were studied. The Quellung reaction was used as the gold standard to identify the S. pneumoniae serotypes. Subsequently, multiplex PCR and cpsB gene-based sequetyping methods were used to identify the serotypes., Results: Based on the Quellung reaction, 299 S. pneumoniae isolates were accurately identified to the serotype level and 40 different serotypes were detected. Only one strain was non-typeable, and five most common serotypes were identified: 23F (43, 14.3%), 19A (41, 13.7%), 19F (41, 13.7%), 3 (31, 10.3%), and 14 (27, 9.0%). Overall, the multiplex PCR method identified 73.3 and 20.7% of the isolates to the serotype and cluster levels, respectively, with 1.7% of the isolates misidentified. In contrast, the cpsB sequetyping method identified 59.0 and 30.3% of the isolates to the serotype and cluster levels, respectively, and 7% were misidentified., Conclusions: The cpsB gene sequetyping method combined with multiplex PCR, can greatly improve the accuracy and efficiency of serotyping, besides reducing the associated costs., (Copyright © 2022. Planning for marriage and childbearing is an important part of many young adults' lives. In this study, we investigated ways in which ideas about family formation among Chinese international students were associated with personal, interpersonal, and cultural factors. In total, 265 childless Chinese international students ( M age = 23 years; all cisgender) in the United States participated in an online survey; 210 self-identified as heterosexual and 55 as sexual minority individuals. Results showed that sexual minority students chose older ideal ages for marriage and parenthood than did heterosexual students. Moreover, sexual minority students were more likely to see the United States and other regions where same-sex marriage is legal as ideal places to live after marriage, but heterosexual students were more likely to describe China as ideal. In reality, however, many students expected to return home to China, and there were no differences in their expectations as a function of sexual identities. In addition, students who reported greater acculturation to culture of the United States were more likely to choose the United States as the ideal place to live. Students who endorsed the importance of filial piety and who perceived more support from family were more likely to view China as the ideal place to live. Finally, sexual minority students who wanted to become parents chose a greater variety of pathways to parenthood than did heterosexual students. Results highlighted the role of sexual orientation, social support, and cultural ideals in shaping the ways Chinese students thought about future families.
