152. Bistability of Cavity Magnon Polaritons

Abstract

We report the first observation of the magnon-polariton bistability in a cavity magnonics system consisting of cavity photons strongly interacting with the magnons in a small yttrium iron garnet (YIG) sphere. The bistable behaviors are emerged as sharp frequency switchings of the cavity magnon-polaritons (CMPs) and related to the transition between states with large and small number of polaritons. In our experiment, we align, respectively, the [100] and [110] crystallographic axes of the YIG sphere parallel to the static magnetic field and find very different bistable behaviors (e.g., clockwise and counter-clockwise hysteresis loops) in these two cases. The experimental results are well fitted and explained as being due to the Kerr nonlinearity with either positive or negative coefficient. Moreover, when the magnetic field is tuned away from the anticrossing point of CMPs, we observe simultaneous bistability of both magnons and cavity photons by applying a drive field on the lower branch., Comment: 6 pages, 4 figures

Abstract

Current ionic artificial muscle technology necessitates a significant technological advancement to achieve increased bending strain, enhanced response rates, and prolonged stability while ensuring consistent and reliable performance across various stimuli. In this study, we aimed to develop an artificial muscle based on a novel nanocomposite composed of ionically cross-linked ZnO@Zn-CAT with poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene)-poly(styrenesulfonate), showing an ultrafast rise time of less than 1.56 s in DC responses, an extremely large bending strain up to 1.22% in a very low input voltage regime (0.1 to 3 V), a long-term cycling stability of 97% up to 10 000 cycles, markedly reduced phase delay, and a very broad frequency bandwidth up to 20 Hz with good structural reliability under continuous electrical stimuli. Most importantly, the proposed ZnO@Zn-CAT-based soft actuator exhibits a remarkably enhanced strain of 2.38% and a blocking force of 66 mN under an extra 700 nm light stimulation, allowing for the realization of complex next-generation soft robotic devices, including wearable electronics and artificial muscles. Abstract

The cruise industry is obliged by economic and environmental initiatives to pursue fuel-efficient solutions and lower ship exhaust emissions. The medium voltage DC (MVDC) distribution with intelligent power management has become a concept for next-generation onboard power systems as its energy-saving feature is to eliminate the frequency constraint and simultaneously optimize engine loads and speed in response to load variations. The incentive for this transition lies on one hand in the fuel efficiency consideration and the reduction of power losses from serial conversion stages. On the other hand, the DC-based technology has been conceived as high-power density design, thus significantly increasing the payload. This study investigates such potential benefits focusing exclusively on large cruise vessels. A highly representative model of the integrated power platform that incorporates all dynamic interactions from the ship hull and essential machinery typically installed on board cruise ships is proposed. The power management strategy also takes account of actual sea conditions and real-time operation requirements. The simulation results demonstrate that the optimization-based MVDC system is able to maximize the opportunity of search agents in finding optimum fuel efficiency areas throughout the scenario time. An analysis of the system structure weight and space reduction of the MVDC architecture is also performed through the utilization of more compact electrical distribution devices and very high power-dense combustion turbines. Abstract

The porosity of the cold sprayed deposits reflects the deformation degree of the sprayed particles and the bonding degree between them, which has an important influence on the deposit properties such as hardness, elastic modulus, friction and wear performance, corrosion resistance, fatigue property and so on. Hence, the porosity of deposits is very important for evaluating the comprehensive properties of deposits and optimizing the cold spraying process parameters, and it is one of the important indicators to evaluate the quality of deposits. Although previous review articles have summarized the influence of cold spraying process on the cold sprayed deposits performance, there were few review articles involving pores in cold sprayed deposits and their control methods. Referring to dozens of articles, this article aimed to review the formation of pores in cold sprayed deposits, the measurement methods, the influence factors and summarize the influence of porosity on the properties of deposits and the measures to reduce the porosity of deposits.

Abstract

Mutant isocitrate dehydrogenase (IDH) 1/2 converts α-ketoglutarate (α-KG) to D-2 hydroxyglutarate (D-2-HG), a putative oncometabolite that can inhibit α-KG-dependent enzymes, including ten-eleven translocation methylcytosine dioxygenase (TET) DNA demethylases. We recently established that miRNAs are components of the IDH1 mutant-associated glioma CpG island methylator phenotype (G-CIMP) and specifically identified MIR148A as a tumor-suppressive miRNA within G-CIMP. However, the precise mechanism by which mutant IDH induces hypermethylation of MIR148A and other G-CIMP promoters remains to be elucidated. In this study, we demonstrate that treatment with exogenous D-2-HG induces MIR148A promoter methylation and transcriptional silencing in human embryonic kidney 293T (293T) cells and primary normal human astrocytes. Conversely, we show that the development of MIR148A promoter methylation in mutant IDH1-overexpressing 293T cells is abrogated via treatment with C227, an inhibitor of mutant IDH1 generation of D-2-HG. Using dot blot assays for global assessment of 5-hydroxymethylcytosine (5-hmC), we show that D-2-HG treatment reduces 5-hmC levels, whereas C227 treatment increases 5-hmC levels, strongly suggesting TET inhibition by D-2-HG. Moreover, we show that withdrawal of D-2-HG treatment reverses methylation with an associated increase in MIR148A transcript levels and transient generation of 5-hmC. We also demonstrate that RNA polymerase II binds endogenously to the predicted promoter region of MIR148A, validating the hypothesis that its transcription is driven by an independent promoter.Implications: Establishment of D-2-HG as a necessary and sufficient intermediate by which mutant IDH1 induces CpG island methylation of MIR148A will help with understanding the efficacy of selective mutant IDH1 inhibitors in the clinic. Abstract

We experimentally demonstrate magnon Kerr effect in a cavity-magnon system, where magnons in a small yttrium iron garnet (YIG) sphere are strongly but dispersively coupled to the photons in a three-dimensional cavity. When the YIG sphere is pumped to generate considerable magnons, the Kerr effect yields a perceptible shift of the cavity's central frequency and more appreciable shifts of the magnon modes. We derive an analytical relation between the magnon frequency shift and the drive power for the uniformly magnetized YIG sphere and find that it agrees very well with the experimental results of the Kittel mode. Our study paves the way to explore nonlinear effects in the cavity-magnon system., Comment: 9 pages, 5 figures
