Objetive: this study was to determine the relationship between acute febrile illness and bacterial pathogens with zoonotic potential that cause emerging and re-emerging diseases in a central-eastern region of Peru. Results: Out of the 279 samples analyzed, 23 (8.2%) tested positive for infection by Rickettsia spp., while a total of 15 (5.4%) tested positive for Leptospira spp. Women had a higher frequency of infection by Rickettsia spp., with 13 cases (53.3%), while men had a higher frequency of infection by Leptospira spp., with 10 cases (66.7%). The most frequently reported general symptom was headache, with 100.0% (n = 23) of patients with Rickettsia (+) and 86.7% (n = 13) of patients with Leptospira (+) experiencing it. Arthralgia was the second most frequent symptom, reported by 95.6% (n = 22) and 60% (n = 9) of patients with Rickettsia (+) and Leptospira (+), respectively. Myalgia was reported by 91.3% (n = 21) and 66.7% (n = 10) of patients with Rickettsia (+) and Leptospira (+), respectively. Retroocular pain, low back pain, and skin rash were also present, but less frequently. Background: There is a growing consensus that fasting-induced ketosis has beneficial effects on human physiology. Despite these compelling benefits, fasting-induced ketosis raises concerns in some clinicians because it is often inappropriately compared with the pathologic uncontrolled ketone production in diabetic ketoacidosis. The determinants of the inter-individual differences in the intensity of ketosis during long-term fasting is unknown. Methods: We monitored daily variations in fasting ketonemia, as well as ketonuria, which is less invasive, in a large cohort of 1610 subjects, fasting between 4 and 21 days with the Buchinger Wilhelmi program, minimally supplemented with ~75–250 kcal (daily fruit juice, vegetable soup, and honey). Results: Ketonuria was detected in more than 95% of fasting subjects from day 4 onwards. Subjects consuming only soups, without fruit juice or honey, exhibited reduced caloric intake (72 kcal instead of 236 kcal) and carbohydrate intake (15.6 g instead of 56.5 g), leading to more intense ketonuria. Participants with high ketonuria were, in the majority, males, young, had a higher body weight, and had lower HDL-C and urea values. They had a larger decrease in blood glucose, glycated haemoglobin levels, body weight, and waist circumference. Furthermore, in the high-ketonuria group, a larger increase in blood uric acid concentration was observed. Conclusion: Our study showed that long-term fasting triggered ketosis, never reaching pathological levels, and that ketosis is influenced by age, gender, health, and the level of physical activity. Furthermore, it is modulated but not suppressed by minimal carbohydrate intake. OBJECTIVE: To estimate the difference in confidence to become active despite low back pain in people who were exposed to one of 2 video interventions delivered on social media, compared to no intervention. DESIGN: A proof-of-concept, 3-group randomized controlled trial, in a 1:1:1 ratio. METHODS: Participants aged 18 years and over, with and without low back pain, were recruited via the social media channel Facebook, to view either a humorous video, a neutral video, or to no intervention. The videos were delivered online, explained evidence-based management for low back pain, and were designed to "go viral." The primary outcome was confidence in becoming active despite pain, measured using the Pain Self Efficacy Questionnaire (Item 10) (ranges from 0 [not at all confident] to 6 [completely confident]) immediately after watching the video. We aimed to capture the real-time impact and immediate reactions that contributed to the content's reach. RESULTS: Among 1933 randomized participants (mean [standard deviation] age: 58.9 [14.0] years, 1285 [75%] women), 1232 [70%] had low back pain and 88.8% completed the primary outcome. One thousand two hundred sixty-four participants were randomized to receive a video intervention, and 633 participants did not receive a video. On a 6-point scale, individuals exposed to either video (n = 1088) showed a mean confidence level 0.3 points higher (95% confidence interval: 0.1, 0.6) compared with no video (n = 630). CONCLUSION: Participants who viewed a brief video intervention reported a very small difference in confidence to become active despite low back pain, compared with no intervention. Low back pain (LBP) clinical practice guidelines recommend referral for patients with persistent LBP however discordance persists between recommended care and implementation in practice. Understanding patient experiences of referral practices and physiotherapy care could be important for optimizing LBP management in primary care settings. This study explored referral experiences of people with nonspecific LBP in Australian primary care and their knowledge and experience of physiotherapy. An interpretive descriptive qualitative framework was used with 17 participants interviewed from community-based physiotherapy practices. Four themes described the participants' experiences of referrals in primary care settings: 1) Referral practices ranged from formal to informal to non-existent; 2) Fragmented inter-and intra-professional LBP care management; 3) Patient perceived differences in the roles of physiotherapists and specialist physiotherapists; and 4) Patient nominated barriers and facilitators to optimal referral practices. Physiotherapists support people with LBP to improve strength and function, whereas the specialist physiotherapist's role was seen as more holistic. Referral pathways that align to clinical guideline recommendations for non-surgical management and treatment remain underdeveloped. Improved referral pathways to clinicians such as physiotherapists with additional credentialed skills and competence in musculoskeletal care could improve people's experiences of care and health outcomes. Background: The COVID-19 pandemic disrupted daily life, economies, and health, prompting strict government measures, including nationwide lockdowns and school closures in Uganda, resulting in significant academic setbacks for adolescents. The coping strategies employed by school-going adolescents in Uganda amidst the COVID-19 pandemic remain inadequately understood. This study aimed to assess the coping strategies adopted by school-going adolescents (early, middle and late adolescents) in the Manafwa watershed, recognized as one of Uganda's most vulnerable regions, during the COVID-19 pandemic. Methods: A cross sectional study design was conducted from I5th May, 2023 to 30th June, 2023 on 762 school going adolescents from government-aided secondary schools within the Manafwa watershed area. The adolescent version of the KidCope tool was used to evaluate adolescents' coping strategies. Factor analysis identified correlations among adolescents' coping strategies. Independent Samples t-Test and One-Way Variance of Analysis (ANOVA) was used for comparing the mean score differences of the coping strategies among the gender and adolescents' stages respectively. Results: Majority (n = 141, 36.2%) of the participants employed adaptive coping followed by negative-emotion coping (n = 127, 32.6%) and avoidant coping (n = 122, 31.3%). Females employed statistically higher resignation as a coping strategy compared to males, (mean of 1.2 vs. 1.0, respectively; P = 0.026). A higher proportion (n = 88, 69.3%) of middle age adolescents employed negative-emotion regulation (P-value = 0.040). However, those in early adolescence significantly utilized distraction as a coping strategy more than those in middle adolescence (mean difference = 0.36, p = 0.013). Conclusion: During the pandemic, majority of school-going adolescents employed adaptive coping mechanisms, including positive emotional regulation and social support. However, compared to males, females employed resignation more frequently. Moreover, middle-aged adolescents had a greater propensity for negative emotion copying. Urinary tract infection (UTI) is the infection and colonization of microorganisms in the urinary tract. Women carry a higher risk of being affected by UTI compared to males, especially during pregnancy due to physiological and hormonal changes. Appropriate and adequate management of UTI reduces the incidence of further maternal and fetal complications. Nonetheless, there is a growing concern regarding resistance to antibiotics among the bacteria causing UTIs in pregnant women. To identify the bacterial profile of UTIs during gestation by exploring the previous research conducted on this subject. A systematic online search was performed on scientific databases to obtain articles related to the current subject using search terms, including bacteria, profile, causative agent, sensitivity, resistance, symptomatic, pregnancy, gestation, and pregnant women. The articles of relevance were considered if they were original articles, written in the English language, available for full-text, and reporting bacterial profile of UTI during pregnancy. A total of eight articles were eligible and met the inclusion criteria. The studies were published between 2020 and 2023 and included a total number of 3,702 pregnant females from five different countries. The bacterial profile of UTI among pregnant women including symptomatic UTI, and resistance and sensitivity of bacteria to antibiotics varied between different regions. Background: The outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic has caused an unprecedented and unexpected change all around the globe. The long-term effects are still ongoing, especially those related to the confinement measures. The study took place during the first COVID-19 lockdown in Italy, where everyone was forced to stay home in order to reduce the spread of the virus. The aim was to investigate the role of perceived emotional intelligence abilities (PEI) in coping with COVID-19-related anxiety. Methods: A cross-sectional study design was employed, and this study used an online survey launched through social networks, inviting adults to participate. The participants anonymously completed a three-scale online measurement of self-reported emotional abilities, coping strategies (approach and avoidance), and state anxiety towards COVID-19. Results: perceived emotional intelligence and approach coping significantly predicted state anxiety. In addition, perceived emotional intelligence mediated the relationship between approach coping and state anxiety. Conclusions: the study highlights the positive role of perceived emotional abilities in dealing with the unprecedented event represented by the COVID-19 pandemic, and in particular, in coping with anxiety related to lockdown and confinement. Background Patients’ ideas, concerns, and expectations are three important concepts in consultation techniques. Limited studies on these concepts include responses from both health care providers and care recipients of the same consultation. Highlighting both perspectives provides an increased understanding of the consultation. This study aims to explore the perspectives of patients and health care professionals about patients’ expectations of primary health care during consultations with primary care physicians and compare the two sets of perspectives. Methods A cross-sectional study. Patients (n=113) and physicians (n=67) from five primary health care centers completed a questionnaire after planned consultations. Their responses to open-ended questions about patients’ expectations, from patients’ and physicians’ perspectives were analyzed with qualitative content analyses. Results The patients expected a personal journey, through the primary health care system where they were the subject of interest. A journey, with ready access to a health care provider followed by a consultation with the physician, medical measures administered, their outcomes discussed, and a plan developed for continued health care. The physicians observed patients’ expectations to concern the responsibilities placed on primary health care where patients were the object of interest. Patients’ short-term expectations were described in a similar way by both patients and physicians. Patients expressed their long-term expectations as more personal and interpersonal whereas physicians observed them from a more professional and organizational standpoint. Conclusions Patients and physicians have different views of what patients expect of primary health care. While patients’ short-term expectations were perceived by physicians, their long-term expectations were not. Patients expected more of a personal journey through the primary health care system while physicians observed patients’ expectations to concern the responsibilities placed on primary health care. Identifying and meeting patients’ expectations is an important part of patient-centered care, and a better understanding of patients’ expectations is needed to improve health professionals’ consultation skills. Background: Our aim was to develop a validated Patient Reported Experience Measure (PREM) to capture patient and carer experience during participation in experimental cancer medicine trials (ECM): called PREM-ECM. Methods: Mixed method design, consisting of four stages. Questionnaire items were produced for both patients and carers using interviews, focus groups, and cognitive interviews with patients and carers separately. For both patient and carer PREMs, a cross-sectional questionnaire study was conducted to identify final items for inclusion using hierarchical item reduction and Rasch analysis. Questionnaire validity and reliability were assessed, including administration feasibility. Results: Initial interview participants suggested the need for three PREMs, two specific to patients: (i) a 'prior' questionnaire that captured experiences of trial introduction, screening, consenting, and early trial experience (< 6 weeks post consent); and (ii) 'on-trial' that captured experiences of ongoing consent and trial participation; and (iii) a PREM specific for carers. The draft 25-item 'prior' questionnaire was completed by 162 patients and 162 patients completed the draft 35-item 'on-trial' questionnaire. Hierarchical and Rasch analysis produced a 14-item 'prior' list and a 15-item list for 'on-trial'. Both patient PREM's demonstrated a good fit to the Rasch model following Bonferroni correction (X2p = 0.008). The carer 34-draft item questionnaire was completed by 102 participants. Hierarchical and Rasch analysis produced a 13-item list for PREM-ECM-Carer, with good fit to the Rasch model (X2p = 0.62). The pilot testing demonstrated the feasibility of all the PREMs in capturing patient and caregiver experiences in routine clinical settings. Conclusions: The three PREM-ECM questionnaires will be the first validated experience measures for ECM trial patients and their carers. These questionnaires may be used to assess patients' and their carers' experiences of ECM and enable robust comparisons across cancer trial units highlighting areas for service improvement. Background: Musculoskeletal pain is one of the leading causes of work productivity loss. Long-term conditions (LTCs) commonly occur alongside musculoskeletal pain. However, the incidence of sick leave and disability pension according to LTC status in people with musculoskeletal pain has not been previously described. Methods: Working-age participants (20–65 years) with persistent musculoskeletal pain who participated in the HUNT3 Study (1995–97) were included. Twenty-five LTCs were classified into 8 LTC groups according to the International Classification of Diseases version 11. Data on sickness and disability benefits were obtained from the National Insurance Database and linked to the HUNT3 data using participants' personal identification number. Age-adjusted incidence rates (IRs) (per 10,000 person-years) and hazard ratios (HRs) of sick leave during 5-year follow-up and disability pension during ~ 25-year follow-up were estimated with 95% confidence intervals (CIs) and presented according to LTC status. Results: Overall, 11,080 participants with musculoskeletal pain were included. Of those, 32% reported one LTC and 45% reported ≥ 2 LTCs. During the follow up period, 1,312 participants (12%) received disability pension due to musculoskeletal conditions. The IR of sick leave and disability pension due to musculoskeletal conditions increased with number of LTCs. Specifically, the IR of sick leave was 720 (95% CI 672 to 768) in participants without any LTCs and 968 (95% CI 927 to 1,009) if they had ≥ 2 LTCs. The IRs of disability pension were 87 (95% CI 75 to 98) and 167 (95% CI 154 to 179) among those with no LTCs and ≥ 2 LTCs, respectively. The incidence of sick leave and disability pension due to musculoskeletal conditions was largely similar across LTCs, although the incidence of disability pension was somewhat higher among people with sleep disorders (IR: 223, 95% CI 194 to 252). Conclusions: Among people with persistent musculoskeletal pain, the incidence of prematurely leaving the work force due to musculoskeletal conditions was twice as high for those with multiple LTCs compared to those without any LTCs. This was largely irrespective of the type of LTC, indicating that the number of LTCs are an important feature when evaluating work participation among people with musculoskeletal pain. In recent years, the number of athletes who aim to return to competition after childbirth has increased. However, few international reports have investigated complications during pregnancy, and changes in physical function after childbirth in many athletes. To conduct a retrospective investigation of medical problems during pregnancy, and postpartum, in female athletes who aim to return to competition after childbirth, and to identify the barriers and facilitators for their return. A voluntary web-based survey was aimed at former female athletes who became pregnant with their first child and gave birth during their active sports career. The survey items included respondent background, their exercise activities during and after childbirth, perinatal complications, mode of delivery, symptoms and physical function after childbirth. The participants were divided into a vaginal delivery group and a cesarean section group. Three hundred and twenty-eight (29.1 ± 5.1 years old) former athletes were included in the analysis, and about half reported undertaking exercise during pregnancy. The most common perinatal complication was anemia (27.4%). The appearance of any symptoms after childbirth, including low back pain (44.2%) and urinary incontinence (39.9%), was reported by 80.5%. The rate of urinary incontinence may be higher in the vaginal delivery than in the cesarean section group (p = 0.05). The most common physical decline after childbirth was in muscular strength, followed by speed and endurance. Addressing pregnancy-associated anemia and managing low back pain is critical for athletes aiming to return to competition after childbirth. Additionally, interventions to reduce the risk for and treat urinary incontinence are important. In addition, in order to return to competition after childbirth, it is important to strengthen muscles, especially the lower limbs and trunk, as well as to create a training program that takes into account the sport/events. Core exercises on an unstable surface increase trunk muscle activity, especially for local muscle groups. Therefore, there is a possibility that exercises on an unstable surface would be effective in the rehabilitation of non-specific chronic low back pain (NSCLBP). The present study assessed trunk muscle activities during bridge exercise on the floor and two kinds of unstable surfaces, i.e., a balance ball and the BOSU, for individuals with and without NSCLBP. This study enrolled 17 and 18 young participants with and without NSCLBP, respectively. In the balance ball condition, both groups showed a significant increase in erector spinae activity compared to the floor condition, and the increase in activity was significantly greater in the NSCLBP group than in the control group (p = 0.038). On the other hand, neither group showed significant changes in trunk muscle activities in the BOSU condition compared to those in the floor condition. The control group showed a significant increase in internal oblique/transversus abdominis activity under the balance ball condition (p = 0.020), whereas there were no significant changes in these muscle activities between the balance ball and floor conditions in the NSCLBP group. The present study showed that participants with NSCLBP significantly increased muscle activity of the erector spinae, one of the global back muscles, on the balance ball in spite of small effects on muscle activity of the internal oblique/transversus abdominis, which is one of the local abdominal muscles. Objective of this study is to offer a comprehensive understanding of the current research landscape, key areas of interest, and potential future directions in the field of PPGP. Methods: Using Web of Science, we explored PPGP literature from 2002 to 2022. VOSviewer and CiteSpace facilitated a quantitative analysis, revealing co-authorship patterns, co-occurring themes, citations, and co-citations. Results: We identified, peaking at 99 publications in 2021. The United States led with 138 publications and the highest citation count (3160). The Karolinska Institute boasted the highest tally of publications (n = 21). Regarding the volume of publications, the esteemed journal of BMC Pregnancy and Childbirth attained the foremost position. Notably, Gutke, Annelie emerged as the most prolific and highly cited author. The analysis of keyword co-occurrence and co-citation clustering unveiled an intricate tapestry of PPGP studies, spanning various domains including risk factors, mechanistic intricacies, diagnostic benchmark, treatment modalities, and far-reaching ramifications on one's quality of life. Conclusion: Research endeavors exploring PPGP have unveiled an enduring trajectory of growth in contemporary times. The existing body of research primarily focuses on delving into the intricate interplay of epidemiological factors and the profound implications of interventions encompassing physical therapy, exercise protocols, and diverse modes of pain management within the domain of PPGP. Multidisciplinary integration encapsulates a prevailing trajectory of progress within this domain, while the focal point of future inquiries into PPGP may revolve around subjects pertaining to standardized outcome reporting. Conspiracy beliefs have been related to aversive emotional experiences often accompanying major world events and have also been linked to maladaptive ways of coping with stress. In this research, we examined how different coping strategies (i.e. self‐sufficient, social‐support, avoidance and religious) predicted the adoption of COVID‐19 conspiracy theories. In two studies (Study 1, n = 1000 and Study 2, n = 616) conducted among Polish participants, we found that avoidance and religious coping were positively linked to COVID‐19 conspiracy beliefs. In Study 1, conspiracy beliefs also mediated the positive relationships between avoidance and religious coping and adherence to safety and self‐isolation guidelines during the COVID‐19 pandemic. Study 2 additionally showed that the relationship between fear, induced by reading threatening news on COVID‐19, and conspiracy beliefs was the strongest among those high in avoidance coping. Summary: We propose that intermittent fasting (time-restricted eating), in agreement with the conclusions of other biologists, as revealed in recent publications, promotes the achievement of numerous health benefits including the extension of human and animal lifespans. Background: There is evidence, obtained both with animal model systems and with humans, that intermittent fasting has health benefits. These benefits include extended longevity, weight loss, and counteracting various disease conditions. Such procedures positively influence the benefits of human tissue-specific microbiomes and minimize the consequences of organellar apoptosis. Key Messages: In this review, we attempt to summarize the predominant evidence, published in the scientific literature, relevant to the conclusions that in general, and in many specific instances, intermittent fasting has long-term benefits to animals, including humans, with respect to overall and specific organismal health and longevity. Background ‒ Low back pain (LBP) represents a worldwide burden with rising disability, especially in low- and middle-income countries. Indigenous Peoples are exposed to many risk factors for LBP and seem to have overall worse health and higher mortality compared to non-Indigenous. This article aims to provide a topical overview of LBP in Indigenous Peoples. Methods ‒ A comprehensive search was done using the keywords “Indigenous” and “back pain.” Secondly, a crossreference search of the citations list of the included articles was conducted. Results ‒ LBP is a prevalent, disabling health condition among Indigenous Peoples that impacts activities of daily living, emotional well-being, and cultural identity. Indigenous Peoples face numerous and unique barriers to obtain Western health care. LBP in Indigenous Peoples is partly iatrogenic and available health care lacks a culturally secure setting. In combination with racism and discrimination by health care providers, this leads to miscommunication, frustration, and poor outcome in Indigenous patients around the world. Conclusion ‒ Contextual considerations and interpretation of findings within the appropriate cultural context are needed in future research and treatment of LBP in Indigenous Peoples. However, our literature analysis exhibits disproportionate representation with the scarcity of studies of Indigenous Peoples of Asia and Africa. Background: The synovial joint capsule, subchondral bone, and joint cartilage are all impacted by the gradual degenerative condition known as OA. This research work is designed to check the efficacy of modified progressive resistance training for OA knee patients. Purpose: To compare the effectiveness of cervical stabilization exercises and conventional physiotherapy exercise in reducing pain for patients with cervical spondylosis. Materials and Methods: The study took place in Eyan Physiotherapy Centre, Sriperumbudur, A total no of 40 subjects were recruited for this study through the purposeful sampling method. All subjects were recruited based on the inclusion and exclusion criteria. The recruited subjects were assigned to two groups (Group A: 20 Subjects) underwent Cervical Stabilization Exercise and (Group B: 20 Subjects) underwent Conventional Exercise. All individuals are assessed for pain using Algometer as a pre-test prior to the intervention and again after 6 weeks of intervention. The entire study process was performed from November 2022 to April 2023. Results: This study states that cervical stabilization exercises are found to be more significant and more effective in reducing pain compared to conventional therapy. The comparison of post mean value of Algometer of both the groups. Group-A(Cervical Stabilization Exercise) was 4.30 and Group B(Conventional Exercise) was 3.65 which shows gradual increase with p value <0.0001 statistically significant. Conclusion: This study recommended that clinicians consider incorporating cervical stabilization exercises into the treatment plan for individuals with cervical spondylosis. Background: College students are required to sit for long periods of time in their classrooms. Prolonged sitting is defined as sitting for more than 2 hours continuously, students usually sit in classrooms on an average of 6 to 8 hours per day. Prolonged sitting has become a major risk factor causing low back pain especially among university students. The recurrence of LBP at old age also increases if the person is found to have LBP at an early stage. Purpose: The objective of this research is to establish the gradual development from functional limitations in non-specific low back pain (NSLBP) among college students after spinal extension exercise and ergonomic advice. Materials and Methods: Based on inclusion and exclusion criteria, the subjects were identified. They were provided with an explanation of the study. A group of 60 subjects were recruited for this research and divided into 3 groups, in which the first group was given spinal extension exercise (n=20), the second group (n=20) was given ergonomic advice and the third group (n=20) was given combination of both the interventions. The Roland-Morris Disability Questionnaire is a 24-item self-report tool for assessing function. The entire process was performed from November 2022 to April 2023. Result: From statistical analysis, the group that received spinal extension exercise combined with ergonomic advice has better outcomes. Aim: Our aim was to translate and culturally adapt three evidence-informed leaflets on the work–health interface from English into Norwegian. Integral to this aim was the exploration of the quality and acceptability of each of the adapted leaflets to Norwegian-speaking stakeholders; general practitioners, people who deal with health issues in the workplace, and the general population. Background: Common health problems, such as musculoskeletal pain, account for most workdays lost and disability benefits in Norway. To facilitate return to work, it may be important to have access to evidence-informed information on the work–health interface for stakeholders involved in sickness absence processes. However, there is limited information material available in Norwegian that is tailored for the different stakeholders. Cultural adaptation is an emerging strategy for implementing health information across different populations and regions. Guidelines on cultural adaptation are not well-suited for translating and adapting evidence-informed health information material. Methods: We conducted a pragmatic cultural adaptation process informed by existing guidelines. Our conceptual framework for adaptation is situated between adaptation and translation and comprises appraisal, forward- and back-translation, review in multiple steps, sense checking, and re-designing using a transcreation approach. Using an online survey, we aimed to evaluate the overall quality, value, acceptability, and clarity of each of the adapted leaflets to a total of 30 end-users. Findings: We translated and culturally adapted three leaflets from English to Norwegian. Adapted leaflets were found to be clearly presented, acceptable, and valued by 45 Norwegian end-users. No differences in key concepts between original and back-translated leaflets emerged through the review process by the original author and forward translators. Pregnant women may experience pain and discomfort during pregnancy, especially in areas such as the lower back and pelvic girdle. Pain in pregnancy is associated with poor quality of life, and because it is a common occurrence, pregnant women may be offered several resources to prevent discomforts throughout pregnancy, such as engaging in physical activity. This study was a meta-analysis of randomised controlled trials (prospectively registered in Prospero, registration number: CRD42023451320) aimed to assess the effects of physical activity during pregnancy on maternal pain and discomfort. We analysed 16 randomised clinical trials. The results of these analyses indicate that women who performed physical activity had significantly less intensity of pain (z = <2.69, p = <0.007; SMD = −0.66, 95% CI = −1.13, −0.18, I2 = <91%, Pheterogeneity = <0.001) and a reduction observed in the disability questionnaire (z = <2.37, p = <0.02; SMD = −0.80, 95% CI = −1.47, −0.14, I2 = <91%, Pheterogeneity = <0.001), and overall reduced general pain (z = <3.87, p = <0.001; SMD = −0.56, 95% CI = −0.84, −0.27, I2 = <86%, Pheterogeneity = <0.001) than women who did not practice physical activity during pregnancy. Purpose: This study aimed to investigate the application of quantitative magnetic resonance imaging of paraspinal muscles in assessing the young CNLBP with unilateral symptom., Methods: This prospective study enrolled 107 young individuals with unilateral symptomatic CNLBP (56 cases) and a normal cohort (51 cases). All subjects underwent conventional lumbar sequences, T2 mapping, and IDEAL-IQ scans at 3T. T2 values and fat fraction (FF) of bilateral multifidus (mid-levels of L2-L5 vertebrae) and erector spinae (mid-levels of L1-L4 vertebrae) were measured. CNLBP severity, Japanese Orthopedic Association (JOA) score, and Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) score were recorded. Wilcoxon signed-rank tests were used to compare parameter differences between painful and non-painful sides in the case group. Mann-Whitney U tests were employed to evaluate differences between the case and normal group. Logistic regression analysis was conducted to identify predictive factors and to establish a combined model., Results: In the case group, erector spinae FF values (L4 level), erector spinae T2 values (L1, L2, and L4 levels), and multifidus T2 values (L4 and L5 levels) were higher on the painful side (P<0.05). Multifidus T2 values (L5 level) and FF values (L2-L5 levels) were higher in the case group compared to the normal group (P<0.05). The optimal performance in differentiating young CNLBP was the combination of L5 level multifidus T2 value with FF (AUC = 91.81%). Negative correlation existed between T2 values and FF of multifidus at L5 level and JOA scores (r=-0.41, P < 0.05), and positive correlation with VAS scores (r = 0.46, P < 0.05)., Conclusion: The combination of T2 value and FF may provide deeper insights into the pathological alterations of paraspinal muscles in young CNLBP, providing an important imaging basis for clinical judgment and preventive treatment of non-painful side in unilateral symptomatic patients., Competing Interests: Declarations. Numerous reports in recent years have focused on the influence of environmental factors on rheumatoid arthritis. This article provides an overview of the current study situation on the influence of modifiable environmental factors on the development and course of rheumatoid arthritis. Lifestyle factors, such as cigarette smoking, diet, exercise and body weight can be individually influenced. Factors such as air pollution and socioeconomic status can be influenced by environmental and sociopolitical measures at a public level. Epidemiological studies have identified nicotine abuse, an unhealthy diet and obesity as well as a low level of education and social status as risk factors for the development of rheumatoid arthritis. Numerous factors are also associated with a poorer response to treatment and a worse prognosis. As randomized interventional studies on most environmental factors are hardly feasible, the causal relationship of the individual factors to the incidence and progression of rheumatoid arthritis is difficult to quantify. Nevertheless, the current evidence already enables the provision of appropriate counselling to patients with rheumatoid arthritis with respect to a healthy lifestyle including abstaining from cigarette smoking, maintaining a healthy diet, physical activity and avoiding obesity., (© 2024. Background: Type 2 diabetes (T2D) remains an important chronic condition worldwide requiring integrated patient-centred care as advocated by the Chronic Care Model (CCM). The Primary Care Networks (PCNs) in Singapore organise general practitioners (GPs) with nurses and care coordinators to deliver team-based care for patients with chronic conditions. This study examined the quality of care in the PCNs as defined by the CCM from the patients' perspective. Methods: This study followed a cross-sectional convergent mixed-method design with T2D patients across three PCN types (GP-led, Group, and Cluster). The Patient Assessment of Chronic Illness Care (PACIC, range 1-5) was completed by a convenience sample of 343 patients. Multivariate linear regression was performed to estimate the associations between patient and service characteristics and PACIC summary score. Twenty-four participants were purposively recruited for interviews on the experienced care until thematic saturation was reached. Quantitative and qualitative data were collected concurrently and independently. Integration occurred during study design and data analysis using the CCM as guidance. Quantitative and qualitative results were compared side-by-side in a joint comparison table to develop key concepts supported by themes, subthemes, and patients' quotes. Results: The PACIC mean summary score of 3.21 for 343 patients evidenced that some have received CCM consistent care in the PCNs. Being younger and spending more time with the GP were associated with higher PACIC summary scores. PACIC summary scores did not differ across PCN types. The 24 patients interviewed in the qualitative study reported receiving team-based care, nurse services, good continuity of care, as well as patient-centred care, convenient access, and affordable care. Key concepts showed that integrated care consistent with the CCM was sometimes received by patients in the PCNs. Patient activation, delivery system design/decision support, goal setting/tailoring, and problem-solving/contextual counselling were sometimes received by patients, while follow-up/coordination was generally not received. Conclusions: Patients with T2D from the Singapore Primary Care Networks received integrated care consistent with the Chronic Care Model, particularly in patient activation, delivery system design/decision support, goal setting/tailoring, and problem-solving/contextual counselling. Nutrition affects all physiological processes occurring in our body, including those related to the function of the immune system; indeed, metabolism has been closely associated with the differentiation and activity of both innate and adaptive immune cells. While excessive energy intake and adiposity have been demonstrated to cause systemic inflammation, several clinical and experimental evidence show that calorie restriction (CR), not leading to malnutrition, is able to delay aging and exert potent anti-inflammatory effects in different pathological conditions. This review provides an overview of the ability of different CR-related nutritional strategies to control autoimmune, cardiovascular, and infectious diseases, as tested by preclinical studies and human clinical trials, with a specific focus on the immunological aspects of these interventions. In particular, we recapitulate the state of the art on the cellular and molecular mechanisms pertaining to immune cell metabolic rewiring, regulatory T cell expansion, and gut microbiota composition, which possibly underline the beneficial effects of CR. Although studies are still needed to fully evaluate the feasibility and efficacy of the nutritional intervention in clinical practice, the experimental observations discussed here suggest a relevant role of CR in lowering the inflammatory state in a plethora of different pathologies, thus representing a promising therapeutic strategy for the control of human health. In the current work, a fluorescence "off–on" system was developed and validated for uric acid analysis in urine, based on fluorescein, H2O2 and gold nanoparticles (Au NPs). First, the fluorescence intensity of fluorescein was greatly quenched (off mode) in interaction with H2O2 in the presence of Au NPs, then fluorescence restoring occurred (on mode) with uric acid adding according to its good reduction activity for interaction with H2O2. The emission-enhancing value was well linearly depend on uric acid concentration in the range of 0.3–8.0 μg.mL−1 with a detection limit of 0.12 μg.mL−1. The results of the developed probe for uric acid analysis in real samples were compared to a standard method and their good compatibility showed the high potential of the probe for uric acid analysis in urine samples. Firefighters are at a higher risk for experiencing back pain due to the nature of their job, but physical fitness may help to reduce this risk. Therefore, the primary purpose of this study was to determine if a correlation between subjective back pain severity and core muscular endurance exists in firefighters. A secondary purpose was to determine if age or body composition were correlated with back pain severity. This cross-sectional study was performed at a fire department during their Physical Fitness Assessment Program and included 72 male firefighters. Measures included weight, body fat percentage, maximal plank hold times for core muscular endurance, and the Oswestry Low Back Pain Disability Questionnaire. A Pearson product correlation analysis was performed between back pain score and each of the following variables: body fat percentage, BMI, age, and plank hold times. A second set of correlation coefficient analyses was performed between the same variables exclusively in subjects who reported back pain. This study found that, within this population of firefighters, there was no significant correlation between back pain and plank times or body composition variables, although there was a trend toward significant correlations between BMI and body fat percentage when only subjects with back pain were considered. Objective: To review the use (dosage parameters and combination with other therapeutic interventions) of cervical extensor muscle exercises and their effect on pain, disability (primary outcomes), range of motion, endurance and strength (secondary outcomes) in people with neck pain. Data sources: An extensive literature search was conducted through MEDLINE (Ovid), Scopus (Elsevier) and Physiotherapy Evidence Database (PEDro) up to May 2023. The reference lists of all included studies and relevant reviews were screened for additional studies. Review methods: Randomised controlled trials reporting the use of cervical extensor muscle exercises (alone or combined) applied to adults with idiopathic or traumatic neck pain were included. Study selection, data extraction and critical appraisal (PEDro assessment scale) were performed by two blinded reviewers. Data extraction included dosage parameters, other modalities combined with these exercises and outcomes. Results: Thirty-five randomised controlled trails (eight of which were complementary analyses) with 2409 participants fulfilled the inclusion criteria. Twenty-six were of moderate to high quality. In most studies, cervical extensor muscle exercises were combined with various other therapeutic modalities and applied at different dosages. Only two studies (one high and one low quality) specifically assessed their effectiveness. The high-quality study showed significant improvements in neck pain and disability, pressure point threshold and neck mobility after both low load and high load training for 6 weeks. Conclusion: The results suggest cervical extensor muscle exercises may reduce neck pain and disability; however firm conclusions cannot be drawn because of the few studies that addressed this question and the heterogeneity of the dosage parameters. Background: Medication errors are common events that compromise patient safety. Outpatient and ambulatory settings enhance access to healthcare which has been linked to favorable outcomes. While medication errors have been extensively researched in inpatient settings, there is dearth of literature from outpatient settings. Aim: To synthesize the peer-reviewed literature on the prevalence, nature, contributory factors, and interventions to minimize medication errors in outpatient and ambulatory settings. Method: A systematic review was conducted using Medline, Embase, CINAHL, and Google Scholar which were searched from 2011 to November 2021. Quality assessment was conducted using the quality assessment checklist for prevalence studies tool. Data related to contributory factors were synthesized according to Reason's accident causation model. Results: Twenty-four articles were included in the review. Medication errors were common in outpatient and ambulatory settings (23–92% of prescribed drugs). Prescribing errors were the most common type of errors reported (up to 91% of the prescribed drugs, high variations in the data), with dosing errors being most prevalent (up to 41% of the prescribed drugs). Latent conditions, largely due to inadequate knowledge, were common contributory factors followed by active failures. The seven studies that discussed interventions were of poor quality and none used a randomized design. Conclusion: Medication errors (particularly prescribing errors and dosing errors) in outpatient settings are prevalent, although reported prevalence range is wide. Future research should be informed by behavioral theories and should use high quality designs. These interventions should encompass system-level strategies, multidisciplinary collaborations, effective integration of pharmacists, health information technology, and educational programs. Background: Lumbar disk herniation (LDH) is a cause of chronic low back pain (CLBP) treated using physical therapy (PT), including exercise and physical modalities such as ultrasound (US) and short wave diathermy (SWD). Despite the use of US and SWD, there is inconclusive evidence on their efficacy. The aim of this study was to investigate the efficacy of US and SWD in the treatment of CLBP in patients with LDH. Methods: A prospective randomized control clinical study. Individuals with radicular CLBP and LDH on magnetic resonance imaging, presenting to the Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine Department were randomized into 3 treatment groups. All participants received 10 sessions of hotpack, transcutaneous nerve stimulation (TENS) and therapeutic exercises. In addition, Group 1 received 10 sessions of therapeutic US (1 MHz, 1.5W/cm2, 10 min), Group 2 SWD (27.12 MHz, wavelength 11.06 m, induction technique, 20 min) to the lower back. Group 3 (control group) received hotpack, TENS and therapeutic exercises alone. Visual analogue scale (VAS) for LBP, Modified Oswestry Disability Index (MODI) and Short Form 36 (SF-36) were evaluated pre and post treatment and at one and three months follow up. Results: In all groups, VAS for LBP and MODI improved with treatment and at the one and three month follow up (p < 0.001). In Groups 1 and 2, MODI scores continued to reduce at 1 and 3 months (p < 0.001 and p = 0.012 respectively). SF-36 physical, social function and pain parameters reduced in all groups (p < 0.05). Role limitation due to physical and emotional problems, emotional well-being, vitality and mental health improved in Groups 1 and 2 (p < 0.05). Conclusions: Deep heating agents can be used as part of the physical therapy for CLBP in those with LDH with positive mid-term effects. Trial registration: NCT03835182, 02/04/2019. Background: Pregnancy-related lumbopelvic pain (PLPP) is a common ailment during pregnancy with physical, psychosocial, and economic consequences. Despite being common, prior literature has found that this symptom is widely underreported and therefore undertreated, especially in the United States. The objectives of this study were to determine the proportion of pregnant women who report PLPP during pregnancy to their health care providers (HCPs) and to determine what contributing factors for reporting exist. Materials and Methods: This is a cross-sectional survey design and was conducted at an academic medical center. All pregnant women attending a prenatal visit in obstetrical offices from July 2018 through March 2020 were asked to complete a questionnaire compiling demographic and socioeconomic information, answer validated survey instruments measuring physical and urinary function, and describe any pain, including intensity, frequency, and whether they told their HCPs about these symptoms and received any treatments. Results: Of the 538 respondents who had PLPP, only 43% (n = 233) reported PLPP to their provider. Of those who reported PLPP, 22% (n = 51) received treatment, of which 80% (n = 41) noted that treatment was effective. Factors that increased the likelihood of informing HCPs about PLPP were difficulty with daily mobility and a greater week of gestation. Conclusions: HCPs should inquire about PLPP throughout pregnancy. Any level of PLPP should be reported and monitored by a patient's HCP, and if it is interfering with activities of daily living, sleeping, or quality of life, it should be treated. Ca2+ transport along the nephron occurs via specific transcellular and paracellular pathways and is coupled to the transport of other electrolytes. Notably, Na+ transport establishes an electrochemical gradient to drive Ca2+ reabsorption. Hence, alterations in renal Na+ handling, under pathophysiological conditions or pharmacological manipulations, can have major effects on Ca2+ transport. An important class of pharmacological agent is diuretics, which are commonly prescribed for the management of blood pressure and fluid balance. The pharmacological targets of diuretics generally directly facilitate Na+ transport but also indirectly affect renal Ca2+ handling. To better understand the underlying mechanisms, we developed a computational model of electrolyte transport along the superficial nephron in the kidney of a male and female rat. Sex differences in renal Ca2+ handling are represented. Model simulations predicted in the female rat nephron lower Ca2+ reabsorption in the proximal tubule and thick ascending limb, but higher reabsorption in the late distal convoluted tubule and connecting tubule, compared with the male nephron. The male rat kidney model yielded a higher urinary Ca2+ excretion than the female model, consistent with animal experiments. Model results indicated that along the proximal tubule and thick ascending limb, Ca2+ and Na+ transport occurred in parallel, but those processes were dissociated in the distal convoluted tubule. Additionally, we conducted simulations of inhibition of channels and transporters that play a major role in Na+ and Ca2+ transport. To evaluate the prevalence of low back pain (LBP) among physiotherapy students during the COVID-19 lockdown in the State of Israel. One hundred and sixty four physiotherapy students from all four-year student levels were invited to participate. One hundred and thirty-seven students (83.5%) were recruited in the study with 79 females (57.7%) and 58 males (42.3%). We used a structured anonymous questionnaire that sought standard information on age, height, weight, sports activity and low back pain (LBP) prevalence during three periods. No significant differences were noted in the prevalence of LBP between the lockdown period compared to 12-month period in all four-year levels. More so, our findings showed that LBP prevalence among physiotherapy students was greater during the 12-month period compared to the lifetime period. University students may have experienced heightened levels of stress during the COVID-19 pandemic; however, less is known about coping mechanisms (i.e., approach and avoidance) that were used to manage such stress. Further, there is a need to identify groups of students who may have been at elevated risk for stress. The present study examined the association between coping and perceived stress and whether there were differences in stress based on sociodemographic factors and COVID-19-related changes in employment, housing, and income. Data were collected from 150 university students between the ages of 18 and 25 years (M = 20.68; SD = 1.73). Results indicated that those who endorsed more approach coping skills had lower levels of stress and those who endorsed more avoidance coping skills had higher levels of stress. Additionally, females, those who lost income, and non-heterosexual individuals endorsed higher levels of stress. Purpose: Despite technological advancements to enhance patient health, the risks of not discovering the correct interactions and trends in digital health are high. Hence, a careful policy is required for health coverage tailored to needs and capacity. Therefore, this study aims to explore the adoption of a cognitive computing decision support system (CCDSS) in the assessment of health-care policymaking and validates it by extending the unified theory of acceptance and use of technology model. Design/methodology/approach: A survey was conducted to collect data from different stakeholders, referred to as the 4Ps, namely, patients, providers, payors and policymakers. Structural equation modelling and one-way ANOVA were used to analyse the data. Findings: The result reveals that the behavioural insight of policymakers towards the assessment of health-care policymaking is based on automatic and reflective systems. Investments in CCDSS for policymaking assessment have the potential to produce rational outcomes. CCDSS, built with quality procedures, can validate whether breastfeeding-supporting policies are mother-friendly. Research limitations/implications: Health-care policies are used by lawmakers to safeguard and improve public health, but it has always been a challenge. With the adoption of CCDSS, the overall goal of health-care policymaking can achieve better quality standards and improve the design of policymaking. Originality/value: This study drew attention to how CCDSS as a technology enabler can drive health-care policymaking assessment for each stage and how the technology enabler can help the 4Ps of health-care gain insight into the benefits and potential value of CCDSS by demonstrating the breastfeeding supporting policy. Background and Purpose: The World Health Disability Assessment Schedule 2.0 (WHODAS 2.0) was developed to assess health and disability based on the biopsychosocial model. The WHODAS 2.0 has not been validated for Brazilians with chronic non‐specific low back pain (LBP). We aimed to evaluate the reliability, internal consistency, and construct validity of the Brazilian version of the WHODAS 2.0 in patients with chronic LBP. Methods: Methodological study. The Brazilian version of the WHODAS 2.0 was applied to 100 volunteers with chronic nonspecific LBP. Test‐retest reliability, internal consistency, and construct validity were assessed using the Spearman correlation test, Cronbach's alpha (α) coefficient, and Spearman's correlation test between WHODAS 2.0, the Oswestry Disability Index (ODI), Roland‐Morris Disability Questionnaire (RMDQ), and Fear Avoidance Beliefs Questionnaire (FABQ), respectively. Results: WHODAS 2.0 showed satisfactory test‐retest reliability with a moderate correlation for total WHODAS 2.0 (r = 0.75, p < 0.05). Internal consistency was adequate for all domains and total score (α = 0.82–0.96). Regarding construct validity, WHODAS 2.0, ODI (r = 0.70, p < 0.05), and WHODAS 2.0 and RMDQ (r = 0.71, p < 0.05) had significant correlations. Total WHODAS 2.0 and FABQ‐Phys subscale scores correlated moderately (r = 0.66, p < 0.05). Discussion: The Brazilian WHODAS 2.0 was proved to be a valid and reliable tool for patients with chronic LBP. The item referring to sexual intercourse had 27% and 30% of the missing values during the test and retest stage, respectively and had a high percentage of missing data for work‐related questions (41% missing data) in the life activities domain; therefore, the data must be interpreted with caution. Forty men with mild to moderate hypertension were given one of two dietary supplements for 6 weeks: 20 capsules of fish oil (MaxEPA) or placebo (olive and corn oil). The MaxEPA supplement provided about 7 g omega-3-fatty acids pr day, whereas the placebo contained about 7 g omega-6-fatty acids and only 0.2 g omega-3-fatty acids. A clinical insignificant reduction in blood pressure was noted in both groups. In the fish oil group, the serum triglyceride levels fell by 30%. A decrease in the ratio total cholesterol/high density lipoprotein (HDL-) cholesterol was noted in both groups, most pronounced in the placebo group. No significant effect on total serum cholesterol level was observed during this study.

The incidence of urolithiasis associated with a stone colic has been investigated in general practice in a rural, partly industrialized area of Eastern Norway. Two cases per year per 1000 inhabitants were observed. The incidence showed seasonal variation, with a maximum during the winter and autumn months in four consecutive years. As reported by others, there was an excess of male patients (2.7:1) and of persons with sedentary occupations. A peak stone incidence was found in the middle-aged groups (30-60 years). The probably unselected patient group from the incidence registration was compared with a selected material of patients referred for recurrent stone disease. The unselected patients from general practice showed about 1/5 the median number of stone episodes and 1/4 the median duration of the disease.

Twenty-three patients with recurrent urinary stones have been treated for 12-54 months with hydrochlorthiazide and 25 with placebo. Discrimination analysis was performed in order to distinguish patients with new stone formation (non-responders) from those without stone recurrence (responders) during the treatment. The discriminant function classified 16 out of 18 responders as such and 5 non-responders as such by using a combination of the three initial variables urinary pH, 24-h urine volume and serum phosphate. Eighteen other analysed variables and patient factors did not contribute to this discrimination. By using "leaving-one-out-technique", the probability for erroneously classifying a patient increased from 9 to 17%. Applying the discriminant function on the group receiving placebo, 92% of these patients were classified as responders to thiazide. It is concluded that discrimination analysis may give valuable information in characterizing patients who will benefit from a special therapy.
