The ALICE Central Trigger Processor (CTP) is going to be upgraded for LHC Run 3 with completely new hardware and a new Trigger and Timing Control (TTC-PON) system based on a Passive Optical Network (PON) system. The new trigger system has been designed as dead time free and able to transmit trigger data at 9.6 Gbps. A new universal trigger board has been designed, where by changing the FMC card, it can function as a CTP or as a LTU. It is based on the Xilinx Kintex Ultrascale FPGA and upgraded TTC-PON. The new trigger system and the prototype of the trigger board will be presented., Comment: 5 pages, 2 figures. Objective: To describe the incidence, clinical characteristics, and long-term outcomes of cerebral sinus venous thrombosis in children with acute lymphoblastic leukemia. Methods: This was a retrospective cohort study comprising pediatric patients with newly diagnosed or first-relapse acute lymphoblastic leukemia who developed cerebral sinus venous thrombosis at Texas Children's Hospital from 2002 to 2019. Results: Nineteen cases (1.7%) with cerebral sinus venous thrombosis were identified in all pediatric patients with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (n = 1129). Increased risk of cerebral sinus venous thrombosis was observed with age >10 years (P =.006). Twelve cases (63%) occurred during the induction, 4 (21%) during maintenance, and 3 (16%) during the consolidation phases of leukemia therapy. Seizures (10/19) and headaches (9/19) were the most common presenting symptoms. After treatment with anticoagulation therapy, we observed full resolution of thrombosis in 10 (53%) and partial resolution in 8 patients (42%). Long-term neurologic outcomes at follow-up in the 14 patients who survived included normal neurologic examinations (n = 10), epilepsy (n = 3), and focal neurologic deficits (n = 2). The death occurred in 5 individuals. Conclusion: Cerebral sinus venous thrombosis is a notable complication of pediatric acute lymphoblastic leukemia therapy. Older age (>10 years) was a risk factor for developing cerebral sinus venous thrombosis. Despite variable patient presentations and treatment durations, favorable clinical outcomes were observed in most patients after the treatment with anticoagulation for a minimum of 3 months. FIRST trimester of pregnancy ,GLUCOSE metabolism disorders ,THIRD trimester of pregnancy ,UNSATURATED fatty acids ,PREGNANT women - Abstract
Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) is a public health problem with increasing prevalence. Analyses of metabolic and immune profiles have great potential for discovering new markers and mechanisms related to the development of GDM. We monitored 61 pregnant women during the first and third trimesters of pregnancy, including 13 pregnant women with GDM, 14 pregnant women with elevated glucose in the first trimester and 34 healthy pregnant women. A number of metabolic and immunological parameters were measured, including glucose, insulin, lipid status, fatty acids, lymphocyte profile, adiponectin, IL-6, IL-10 and TNF-a. A higher number of T-helper lymphocytes and a higher ratio of helper/cytotoxic lymphocytes was found in the control group in the first trimester of pregnancy. Pregnant women whose glucose threshold values were measured in the first trimester, but who did not develop GDM, showed a higher percentage of neutrophils and a lower percentage of lymphocytes in the third trimester. Differences in polyunsaturated fatty acids levels were observed between healthy pregnant women and those with glucose metabolism disorders in the first trimester of pregnancy. The results of this pilot study demonstrate that there are differences in the profiles of T lymphocytes, NK cells and polyunsaturated fatty acids between the examined groups of pregnant women, which can serve as a direction for future research. Communication is a powerful means to disseminate socialinformation, and gossip is an effective way of obtainingupdated information about others. However, without acomprehensive theoretical framework of socialcommunication, it is difficult to predict a priori when and whysocial information will be disseminated. There are generaltheories of human social interaction, however, they do notsufficiently capture the sociocognitive components underlyinghuman decision-making in social settings. Therefore, we havedeveloped a model of social communication, enabling thecharacterization of specific conditions under which socialinformation will be spread: for example, when an agent shoulddirectly communicate with the target of the information, gossipit to others, or simply do nothing. We describe the model, themethods used to generate model predictions, and then list ninepredictions derived from it as the current results. We next planto test the predictions empirically and develop the modelcomputationally.

Physics - Instrumentation and Detectors ,J.2 - Abstract
In the described device, the thermal emissivity or absorptivity of the sample is measured by substitution of the radiative heat flow between two parallel surfaces by thermal output of a heater. Fast measurements of the mutual emissivity for the range of the temperature of the radiating surface 25 K-150 K are possible. The absorbing surface has a temperature between 5 K and 10 K when LHe is used as cryoliquid. The desired measurement sensitivity is 1 mK for temperature and 0.1 {\mu}W for heat power, respectively. The diameter of the whole device is 50 mm and so it is possible to use a commercial dewar can for the cooling. The form of the sample is a round plate 40 mm in diameter and 1 mm in thickness with one tested side. The emissivity and its temperature dependency for various surface treatments can be checked immediately before application in a cryogenic system., Comment: The eighth Cryogenics 2004 IIR international conference proceedings, Prague, Czech Republic

Condensed Matter - Materials Science ,J.2 - Abstract
Data on thermal absorptivity and emissivity are important for calculations of heat flows in cryogenic devices. Although thermal radiative properties of materials used in cryogenics are measured, published and used for more than sixty years we have noticed that sometimes users of that data do not well understand the significance of individual factors influencing thermal radiative properties. The sensitivity of the thermal radiative properties of metals to the condition of the surface and the difficulty of measurement, especially at low temperatures is probably the reason of dispersion of the published values. The effect of the material and its purity, finishing (machining, mechanical or chemical polishing) and of the protective coatings or accidental layers (water, oxidation) on the thermal radiative properties is not always obvious. Influence of the material, surface treatment, roughness and layers on the surface is discussed on the basis of our 20 year experience with measurement of the emissivity and absorptivity in the range from 20 K to 300 K., Comment: The 13th Cryogenics 2014, IIR International Conference / April 7 - 11, 2014, Prague, Czech Republic, ISBN: 978-2-36215-002-9

Physics - Instrumentation and Detectors ,J.2 - Abstract
We have developed low temperature part of an ultra high vacuum scanning probe microscope (UHV-SPM) working at variable temperature within the range from 20 K to 700 K. To achieve the required temperature range, a flow cooling system using cryogenic helium (~5 K) as a coolant was designed. The system consists of a flow cryostat and a flexible low-loss transfer line connecting a Dewar vessel with the flow cryostat. We have also tested liquid nitrogen (~ 77 K) as an alternative low-cost coolant. Using nitrogen, the microscope can operate at temperatures of about 100 K and higher. As the flow of the coolant through the cryostat can cause thermally induced two-phase flow fluctuations resulting in instability in temperatures, preliminary tests were done in order to find ways of avoiding the temperature oscillations and optimising the cooling process., Comment: The 13th Cryogenics 2014, IIR International Conference / April 7 - 11, 2014, Prague, Czech Republic ISBN: 978-2-36215-002-9

For the enrichment of eggs with lutein, a marigold flower extract – MFE (Tagetes erecta L.) was used. The two groups of laying hens were involved in the study – the control group (C) and the experimental group (E), respectively. The laying hens of the control group were fed by the lutein‐free mixture, while the laying hens’ E group consumed the mixture with the 3 g/kg of lutein. The laying hens’ feeding lasted for 31 days, after which the quality of eggs (i.e., the shape index, egg weight and the egg main parts, shell strength and thickness, Haugh units – HU, egg white height, egg yolk color, egg white pH, and the egg yolk pH), as well as the lutein content and Thiobarbituric Acid Reactive Substances (TBARS) values in egg yolks, were determined. The study results have demonstrated that the added MFE exerted an effect of thickness, weight, and eggshell proportion reduction (P

egg ,FA ,ALA ,EPA ,DHA ,n-6/n-3 PUFA ratio ,Agriculture (General) ,S1-972 ,Plant culture ,SB1-1110 - Abstract
The paper presents the results of a research in the use of flaxseed (LO) and rapeseed oil (RO) in a combination with fish oil (FO) in the feeding of laying hens and the effect on the fatty acid profile of egg yolks (∑n-3 PUFA and ∑n-6/∑n-3 PUFA ratio). Nutritional treatments were as follows: C1, C2 = control (5% soybean oil SO), E1 = 1.5% LO+3.5% FO, E2 = 3.5% LO+1.5% FO, E3 = 1.5% RO+3.5% FO, E4 = 3.5% RO+1.5% FO. Feed mixtures for the laying hens were balanced on the basis of a 17% crude protein and 11.5 MJ/kg ME, and the n-6/n-3 PUFA ratio in the mixtures was as follows: C1 13.64, C2 13.10, E1 2.63, E2 1.53, E3 4.84 and E4 6.21. The combination of the flaxseed oil and fish oil in the feed affected the n-6/n-3 PUFA ratio, making it narrower when compared to the combination of rapeseed oil and the fish oil. The control feed C1 and C2 contained only ALA 3.12 and 4.08%, being without the EPA and DHA fatty acids. The analysis of the fatty acid profiles in egg yolks demonstrated that the eggs contained 1.16 and 1.26% of DHA in addition to ALA, which means that, although in the small amounts, the DHA was synthesized and deposited in the eggs by the laying hens. The following proportions of n-3 PUFAs were found in the eggs of the experimental groups: E1 6.51%, E2 8.30%, E3 5.17%, and E4 3.54%. The n-6/n-3 PUFA ratio in egg yolks decreased from 9.67 and 11.85 (control groups) to 3.08 and 2.57, respectively, for the flaxseed and fish oil treatments and 4.25 and 6.95 for the rapeseed and fish oil treatment. The studies have demonstrated a more efficient deposition of the n-3 PUFAs in the yolks of the E1 and E2 groups, although the ALA was most abundantly present in the total n-3 PUFAs.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, changes occurred within the surgical patient population. An increase in the frequency of resistant Gram-negative bacteria has since been recorded worldwide. After the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, microbiological diagnostics in our institution was performed using MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry. With this study, we wanted to confirm whether it contributed to a greater number of pathogenic bacteria detected in surgical ICU patients. A total of 15,033 samples taken from 1781 surgical patients were compared during the period from 2016 to February 2020 and during the COVID-19 pandemic from March 2020 to February 2023. On patients' admission, pathogenic bacteria were mostly isolated from the respiratory system (43.1% and 44.9%), followed by urine cultures (18.4 vs. 15.4%) before and during the pandemic. After the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, there was a significant increase in the frequency of isolation of Enterobacter spp. (5.4 before vs. 9%, p = 0.014) and other enterobacteria (6.9 vs. 10.8%, p = 0.017) on patients' admission to the ICU, respectively. Despite this change, mortality in the ICU during the post-COVID-19 period was reduced from 23 to 9.6% (p < 0.001). The frequency of bacterial isolation did not change with the application of MALDI-TOF technology. By identifying the microorganism while simultaneously recognizing some resistance genes, we were able to start targeted therapy earlier. With the application of other infection control methods, MALDI-TOF may have contributed to the reduction in mortality in surgical ICU patients during the COVID-19 pandemic. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Our research seeks to evaluate the utility of intraoperative frozen analysis of sentinel lymph nodes (SLNs) in the lateral cervical compartment (LCC) as a tool to inform decision-making regarding therapeutic neck dissection in patients with medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC). This is particularly relevant due to the variability observed in guidelines regarding the indication for lateral neck dissection in this patient population. The study comprised 64 patients (25 males, 39 females) aged between 29 and 81 years, with a median age of 59, who underwent surgery for MTC at stage T1-3N0-1M0 between January 1, 2012, and December 31, 2020. A standardized surgical approach involving total thyroidectomy with central neck dissection was adopted. LCC dissection was reserved for patients with clinically apparent nodal metastases. In patients lacking clinical evidence of nodal involvement, SLNs were identified using patent blue dye, excised, and subjected to intraoperative frozen analysis. If metastasis was confirmed, LCC dissection was subsequently performed. Among the study participants, 14 individuals (21.9%) underwent therapeutic LCC dissection due to clinical lymph node (LN) metastases. This intervention resulted in clinical remission for 9 patients, while disease progression was observed in 5 cases, leading to 2 fatalities. In the remaining cohort of 50 patients clinically negative for nodal involvement, SLNs were successfully identified and examined in 38 cases, revealing metastases in 6 patients (15.8%). Among both subsets of patients with analyzed SLNs, irrespective of metastatic status, one patient each required repeat surgery due to disease recurrence; however, all patients eventually achieved clinical remission. Lymphatic mapping in the LCC plays a pivotal role in detecting early metastases, thereby aiding in the avoidance of unnecessary repeat neck surgeries, and ultimately improving the prognosis in patients with MTC. Arachnoid granulations (AGs) are generally benign structures within the subarachnoid space that extend into the dural sinuses and calvarial bone. They can present in a variety of sizes but are termed 'giant' arachnoid granulations (GAGs) when they are larger than 1 cm in diameter or take up a significant portion of the dural sinus' lumen. Vermiform giant arachnoid granulations are a specific type of GAG that are known for their worm-like appearance. Specifically, these vermiform GAGs can be challenging to diagnose as they can mimic other pathologies like dural sinus thrombosis, sinus cavernomas, or brain tumors. In this case series, we present two cases of vermiform giant arachnoid granulations, discuss their imaging characteristics and highlight the diagnostic challenges to improve identification and prevent misdiagnoses. Objectives: The goal of our study was to determine the incidence of cerebellar atrophy, assess the imaging findings in the posterior fossa and determine the incidence of hippocampal sclerosis in a cohort of pediatric patients with confirmed tuberous sclerosis complex (TSC). Material and methods: MRI studies of 98 TSC pediatric patients (mean age 7.67 years) were evaluated for cerebellar atrophy, cerebral/cerebellar tubers, white matter lesions, subependymal nodules, subependymal giant cell astrocytomas, ventriculomegaly, and hippocampal sclerosis. Clinical charts were revisited for clinical symptoms suggesting cerebellar involvement, for seizures and treatment for seizures, behavioral disorders and autism. Results: Cerebral tubers were present in 97/98 cases. In total, 97/98 had subependymal nodules, 15/98 had SEGA, 8/98 had ventriculomegaly and 4/98 had hippocampal sclerosis. Cerebellar tubers were found in 8/98 patients (8.2%), whereas cerebellar atrophy was described in 38/98 cases (38.8%). In 37/38 patients, cerebellar volume loss was mild and diffuse, and only one case presented with left hemi-atrophy. Briefly, 32/38 presented with seizures and were treated with anti-seizure drugs. In total, 8/38 (21%) presented with behavioral disorders, 10/38 had autism and 2/38 presented with seizures and behavioral disorders and autism. Conclusions: Several studies have demonstrated cerebellar involvement in patients with TSC. Cerebellar tubers differ in shape compared with cerebral tubers and are associated with cerebellar volume loss. Cerebellar atrophy may be focal and diffuse and one of the primary cerebellar manifestations of TSC, especially if a TSC2 mutation is present. Cerebellar degeneration may, however, also be secondary/acquired due to cellular damage resulting from seizure activity, the effects of anti-seizure drugs and anoxic–ischemic injury from severe seizure activity/status epilepticus. Further, prospective studies are required to identify and establish the pathogenic mechanism of cerebellar atrophy in patients with TSC. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
